real easy class, got a "B" w/o even buying the book and attending 60 percent of the time. Bittl also gives out a study guide before tests with all the test questions and answers.
Very EZ Summer class. She pulled out her exams from the work sheets she gave out, and discussed it with us. Also, she review the slides with us millions of timez.
very chill class just memorize the slides she shows you a hundred times! memorize the study sheets which she takes the test questions directly off of. I got an "A" with out even buying the book.
Great class! memorize the slides and work sheets. she goes over them hundred's of times!! peace of cake...recomend this class...interesting and easy!! Got and A...
Nice person know her subjects really well shows us the slides millions time I highly recomm take her
She has such a funny personality, and makes class interesting with her historical gossip. shes a good teacher with a feminist perspective.
She was a very straight forward teacher. You were given one assignment, one midterm, one final, and those were your grade. She tells you everything you need to know. Then you get extra credit that raises your grade a whole letter! Good teacher! Never keeps you late!
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GREAT ART APPRECIATION TEACHER BITTL IS THE ONE. THE CLASS IS STRAIGHTFORWARD AND HER LECTURE IS EASY TO FOLLOW. SHE GIVES YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO STUDY FOR HER TESTS("CHEATSHEETS" AND SLIDE LISTS) JUST REMEMBER TO STAY FOCUSED AND STUDY. A LOT OF WHAT SHE SAYS IS WORTHWHILE. satisfies area c and area e requirement.
She was great. She knows a lot about art and has wonderful insight. I wasn't interested in art before this class, but she sparked my interest. The class wasn't difficult as long as you studied for a few days before the tests.
She takes a direct approach to art history. You can tell it's her passion. You have to memorize slides for the midterm and final, visit a museum and write a few papers, but it's all good. I truly enjoyed her lectures and art history gossip.
I took her for art appreciation in high school and she was a fun, ez going kind of person, didnt make us stay nearly as long as the class scedule said. Very easy, just make sure u memorize and use the book for ur essays
Great teacher i took her online class, she has two papers you write, an midterm , and a final. She has study groups the day before the mid and final, that gives you all the answers. I dont even need another art,but i am taking a new art class she offers in fall. No one better then bittl
Took this class online and it was extremely easy. Midterm & Final both have a study review the night before (1-2 hours long) and she pretty much hands you the test. Other than that, you have to turn two reports on art pieces-which are extremely easy-but just in case you don't get the best grade on it-she offers plenty of extra credit.
I like the way she teaches and she actually tries to make class interesting!
I took the class online, and while I say it was an easy class you still had to study well for the slides on the test. If you take it online the night before she posts 40 "random" questions that are THE questions on the test, and earlier in the week she already posted the answers to all of the study questions. Just make sure you study slides.
Well organized and presented. Has true appreciation for students needs and a true art collector and info hound. Fair and clear, best two traits for any prof.
Good class, does get boring cause theres so much information but you almost bearly have to go to class at all because all the questions on the tests are questions she does on her study guide for every chapter so its easy to do well on tests. She also has slides that are a lot to take in but if you just study them then youll do fine.Write the paprs!
Great professor, has study guides for all exams and she goes over all of them before the exam. You have to write 3 easy papers on interesting subjects and make sure you come to class because her tests are based on the lectures. Makes the class interesting and fun, great class to take!
She's funny, her class is fun. You will get an A if you do good on the Midterm & Final. There are 4 essays, one is a field trip report essay. Memorizing all the works of art, the artists, and dates are the only things i didnt like.
Took her VO1 online class, easiest class ever. Requires 1 actual museum visit, 1 online museum essay, midterm, and final. Thats it. Midterm and final are the alike. Just study the pictures she gives along with the study guides and you'll do fine. I studied the night before the exams. Take this class if you just need transfer credits!
Easy class. Never answers emails. Turned my projects in and lagged weeks to grade and post them. Even lost my paper once. Really easy class, snazzy lady, but online is not her thing.
Dont think that she's all easy.. i got A+ on both of my final and midterms YET there are 4 essays that she graded hard on so i got a B in her class. worked very hard a little bummed. She is an amazing women tho you learn alot loved her overall
I took this as an online summer course. 1 paper, midterm and final. She posted study guides and all of the test questions are pulled from those guides. I got a C+ on my paper but A+s on my tests so I pulled an A+ out of this class. There is an extra credit paper for a full letter grade rise in your grade. I NEVER used my book.
Great teacher! I took the online course and it was pretty easy. Just 3 assignments: an online essay, a mid-term, and a final. The workload isn't overwhelming, either. Highly recommended.
Ann Bittl is a great instructor. The course was easy to follow and interesting.
Super boring IF you're not into art.she is REALLY nice, and this class is SO easy!! u can tell she loves art & tries to make it interesting, but again, if ur not into art it will be boring.if you have to take art, take it with her. EASY A! i just went on the museum website instead of actually going, she didnt even notice & i got an A on the paper
Ann is an awesome woman. She really cares about the subject and has a really broad range of knowledge. She is great at speaking objectively, but every once in a while she will put in her two cents, which is always fun to hear. Great instructor, keeps my attention, reasonable work load. Definitely recommend her!
Great class. Rec. taking in the summer.
Took this class online during spring. 4 essays, 1 midterm, 1 final which you take both in the classroom. Her exams covers what you really should know, and mostly from her study quizzes and notes. Attend her study sessions if she has any!
Loved her course! Ann is awesomely quirky and goofy but she knows her stuff! I took her online course but attended her lectures as well (yes, for the hell of it). As for assignments: there are only 4 major ones. Essay, midterm, essay, final. Final & Mid. are taken directly from the study quizzes. Also, she offers extra credit in case needed.
Took her class online during the summer and never used the textbook. Very easy class, only 3 assignments. Online Museum essay, midterm, and final. The answers for the midterm and final come straight from the study quizzes.
She covers everything she tests on in her lectures. Probably one of the most boring classes I have taken. The entire class is lecture read off a power point. The work load is not difficult but the class is extremely monotonous.
She gave me an F on my first paper and elluded to plagarism, which wasn't the case. This makes me think she is jaded. Yes, her class is super boring. I also question her insight into the art she covers, as she admits she is not an artist.
Took her online and was super easy. Just a lot of memorization for the midterm and final. Two museum essays weren't so bad either
Pretty easy class..She Knows her stuff..Its a lecture class so if you dont like listening to someone talk dont take her cause shes a talker..study right off study guides and memorize pieces (pictures)..
I studied my tush off for the final which consits of 30 multi-chocie,11 images(Artist name, title, date) and 10 fil-in-the-blank and a 2 page essay . I only missed 3 nights in the whole semester and she still gave me a D!!! Why idk?? If I did great on my final! The class in general is ok but she might accuse you of copying/ pasting ur essay so good l
Take This teacher for art bc is easy u just have to remember the images for the midterm and final. And u have to visit a museum and write a two pg essay.also have to write a two pg essay for the midterm and final. If u do that u will pass the class no problem but it is kinda boring but if u need it take her shes a cool teacher
I took her class followed everthing and still didnt pass!! And she accuses ypu of plagiarism when in reality you put your time and effort in the essay!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Dont waste your time with this teacher!! You might do great on the mid-term and final questions but .... beware that might not help you in your essay!! Waste of my time!!!
She is a teacher who mows her stuff pretty well. The class can become tedious because it is always based on powepoint presentations. I think the hardest part of the course is to learn 33 images with author and dates rspectively. But, if u are good with dates and art history then it should be fine.
not a very good teacher. how did she get her degree?
i'm taking my second class with her right now. she's funny but she tells the same jokes every week. (martin luther's 95 beers anyone?) never even touched the book and got an A.
A great professor! Had a great time learning a variety of painting throughout history. The essays are easy if you do the necessary research, and the exams are straight out of the inclass papers. At times the class can be a grind, but the professor tries make it exciting.
the class was really easy, just show up and you absorb the information. OR you can read the textbook and not go to class. doing both is unnecessary. I hated this class but still took two semesters. so it wasn't so horrible. easy A
I have taken art history from both Bittl and Overboe, and I definitely prefer Prof. Overboe. Prof. Bittl is very easy going, but she doesn't have any extra insights outside of the book. Bittl's class is an easier A, if you don't care about art history, just need the units she's fine. If you really want to learn art history, take Overboe's class!
A nice lady. She tries hard to make the subject interesting and you can really tell she knows what she's talking about. Almost no homework, just one essay, a museum visit, and then the midterm and final.
She tells you to buy the book but you don't need it at all so don't waste your $. All of the test are exactly like the handouts you just got to memorize the image list. As long as you attend class or have someone that can give u the handout answers you will pass the class.
Online class. Ridiculously hard exams. Midterm and final that both consist of: 2-3 page essay, 30 multiple choice, 10 fill in blank, plus you must memorize 35 works of art including artist name, date. Online museum visit (3pgs), actual museum visit (3pgs). Avoid, unless you're majoring in art history. I got an A but I worked very, very hard for it.
She is awesome, she is funny but tells the same jokes over and over again. Class is easy if you pay attention or read the textbook. She doesn't have an attendance policy (I only went to a fourth of the classes). If you have a flash drive she will give you the powerpoint so you don't have to take notes. Midterm and final kind of hard, plus two essays
You have to do about 3 or 4 essay. Essays aren't hard, have to be about 2pgs long. Attend class so you can do the study guides. Test is exactly like study guides! No you don't need the book! Memorize 40 Images, if not cheat lol Easy class!!! Got a B both semesters.
super easy. a total of 2 essays and 2 test essays no longer than 2 pages, and she gives everything you need to know on the test. great teach, she knows her stuff. take her!
Prof Bittl is super easy. No homework, A couple of essays, a museum visit, a midterm and a final. Essays have no be 2-3 pgs but are easily done. You do not need to buy the text book. You can use the book on reserve at the library for your essays. She gives the exact questions for the final on the review day. Great Teacher!!
Took intro to latin american art with her and i have to say it was really easy! Attendance isn't mandatory to do good on the exams, but she does pass around an attendance sheet everyday. Only 2 exams (midterm & final) i only studying the day before on both and got A's on both, it helps if you make flash cards!
I am an art major at UCSB. I used some info from her powerpoints in a paper and got a lower grade for it. I showed the prof. the PPP and he upped the grade because it wasn't my fault I was taught wrong stuff.
super boring class. all u need to do is memorize images and facts about them for the tests and ur good.
Don't need book. Final and midterm based on study guides, taken straight off them. Witty and interesting, doesn't require attendance, but you should go because it's interesting.
She was a very good teacher. Answered questions well, her tests are so easy it's all memorizing from the paintings to the study guides if you are good at memorization you will do good in her class.
Recommend Prof Bittl. Her exams are easy and her lectures are interesting and entertaining. She offers extra credit but does not use book much.
Her lectures are not historically accurate. Serious art students should avoid her because her misinformation will only irritate you. Don't attempt to correct her or she'll attack you in front of the class the rest of the semester.
EXTREMELY simple class with almost no homework, but tests you need to study hardcore for. The tests are simple and she gives you the answers ahead of time (!), but she expects you to remember a lot of information when it comes time to take the test. Bittl is kind and accommodating, but sometimes hard to contact. Definitely an okay class.
Western Art History or history in general can be a little dry but she makes it interesting. In this class we do write mostly essays but she gives enough time for it to be completed, as well as useable information from her lectures. Midterms and finals have the fill in the blank, multiple choice, essay, and image list. She gives extra credit.
Really great class. The material is amazing to look at and study. The book used is really well-written and provides a wealth of information for essays. There are two image lists, one for each semester, and knowledge about the images is tested for the midterm and final. Course covers artistic and cultural traditions from Asia, Africa, Oceania, etc.
Great teacher! She lectures but also posts them online. She includes a bunch of funny and interesting facts, she really tries to make art history exciting. Four total essays, one midterm and one final. Go to her review, study, write good papers and you'll pass. I survived without the textbook but you do need to do research. One museum visit.
Ann is an amazing professor. Lots of lectures are involved with art history but she makes them fun, not boring. She's got a great sense of humor. She only gives two tests: a midterm and a final. As long as you pay attention and put effort into your papers (there are four, two page min.) you'll be fine. I'm definitely taking another class from her!
The best part about taking art with her is she has it set up to where you can enjoy the art being discussed rather then stress over the tests to which there is only 4, 2-4pg essays and mid-term and final. also very nice and she gives a chance for extra credit. And she doesn't expect you to memorize the entire text book!
I was a bit nervous about taking an art history class because I didn't know what to expect. Professor Bittl gives you a syllabus the first day outlining what your grade will consist of. I learned so much in her class. She is so knowledgeable and helpful in every way. Attend class, study&you will learn a lot. She really wants students to succeed.
Summer online was an EASY A+! 1 midterm, 1 final. Memorize 30 imageseach title, year, artist, questions straight from practice quizzes, have to write 3 essays. Only down side was the midterm & final were in class. Highly recommended!
Ms. Bittl's lectures crossed the line of appropriateness too often. I am not a prude, but I object to being fed vulgarity when I expected to learn Art History.
She is a great professor! Easy A if you actually pay attention to what she says in class. I took the online class and she posts all the question to the midterm and final before hand. She also has a lot of extra opportunities so it's impossible to fail her class unless you don't try at all. She is also really funny. I would take again but in class
The online course is very easy if you follow her directions. It is all about turning your work in on time and actually doing the work. There is an actual museum visit! She offers extra credit but you wont need it if you are following her directions! Go to the orientation!! It's not long ad she offers a lot of information.
Hardly assigned any work or quizzes. Just expect a midterm and final. Lectures can be boring. Attendance isn't mandatory because it's easy to catch up since she posts all her presentations online. However, I don't recommend missing class since her lectures can be useful. I only used my textbook as a source for my papers.
Dr. Bittl is well informed in her areas of expertise. She knows her stuff! She is always ready for her power point lectures and imparts great knowledge on topic. She is funNy, although at times it seemed she and I were the only one laughing at the right places in lecture since I am usually a bit older than. I will take classes from her again.
Such a good professor to be honest. My summer was super busy so I received a C on the midterm, but she was so nice and such a good grader that I ended up with an A in the class. She gives one major extra credit essay that bumped my grade up a lot. Just make sure you do well on the image ID's and study :)
Her way of teaching is different
She's super easy ! She made art interesting. I didn't learn much but this isn't my major anyways. Gives you a list to remember for paintings and that's your mid term and final. She's funny at times. Maybe a little boring. But if you just need the class or an easy A definitely take her class.
This class is perfect. Four assignments only: two museum essays, midterm, final. The book is needed, to help out with the midterm/final images you will need to memorize, better than searching on google. All resources given are 100% beneficial. The only difficulty for me was memorizing an amount of images--name, date artist--, but nothing else.
Best History teacher ever!! What a brilliant lady! She also has an amazing Art collection, so impressive! Loved her class!
Online class is extremely disorganized. She doesn't even explain what she expects on the essays she assigns. She gives you a grade for your paper with no explanation of what was wrong with it. Then she has an in class midterm for a fully online class. There are students who don't live within range to go to an in class test, hence an online class.
If you consider taking a class where the professor reads PowerPoint verbatim in a monotonous tone this class is for you. She literally spends half the class period talking about herself.
I'VE TAKEN 6 CLASSES FROM ANN BITTL. I REMEMBER THE INFORMATION FROM HER LECTURES FOR A LONG TIME BECAUSE THEY ARE ENTERTAINING AND FUNNY. SHE GIVES YOU EVERYTHING UPFRONT ON CANVAS SO THERE ARE NO SURPRISES. READING IS MINIMAL AND TWO PAGE ESSAYS ARE THE NORM. THERE ARE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXTRA CREDIT AS WELL.
there are a few essays that you have to write but she grades them and gives you really good feedback on them. right now my grade is a b. for the midterm she gives you a study guide and if you study really good and memorize the questions and answers they are the exact same on test. EASY A!
Professor Bittl is definitely an easy A. However, I wouldn't recommend her class to anyone. She talks endlessly about herself, makes borderline offensive jokes, and won't hesitate to argue with students if they make a comment she doesn't 100% agree with. She also gets a good portion of her 'facts' wrong. If you want to learn, don't take her class.
Easy online class if you actually do the work.
I've taken both in person and online classes from Professor Bittl, and I much prefer her in person. Her lectures just stick, whereas just viewing her PowerPoints online don't do much more me. Her sense of humor isn't for everyone, but don't take her jokes personally. I love her classes, and plan on taking as many in-person with her as I can.
The lectures In this class are very unorganized, not to mention very vague instructions for writing papers. Easy A but would not recommend this professor to anyone.
One of the most easiest professors Ive ever had. She assigns practice quizzes which consist of 12 fill in the blank & some multiple choice questions. Practice quizzes are worth 1 point, just do them those points add up quick. Tests & midterms are super easy, just review from lecture. Stress free class, take her you wont regret it!
Class is on the easier side of things, offers so much extra credit. Def try to make a friend is her class, if you miss class you might miss information(plus attendance was part of your grade). I recommend her class for any history credit, even just for fun. She also cracks jokes to make things less boring which I loved. Only four real assignments.
I learned a lot in this class. Professor Bittl infuses her personal take/sense of humor into lectures, which might not be for everyone, but I found that it made the material much more memorable/easy to relate to. Only 4 main assignments- 2 exams 2 essays, but lots of extra credit to supplement points if you don't do so well on the exams or essays.
Professor Bittl makes art history fun and intriguing, you can tell she is an expert in this field. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Be present in class and take good notes and you'll do well on the midterm and final.
Lots of papers but they are very quick assignments. You will write around three papers so get ready to write however this class is very easy and enjoyable.
I loved her class! So fun and clear on what she expects.
She is not very clear about what actually counts for points. Her canvas page is extremely hard to navigate and it is not intuitive. I am a completely online student and very familiar with Canvas, but her page was the worst I have ever encountered.
I liked this professor. Clear lessons and light work load. I enjoyed learning about everything without being drowned in work all the time. Would recommend!
Prof. Bittl's ARTV01 class is a breeze. With quick assignments, easy tests, and helpful practice quizzes, the workload is manageable. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for studying the image IDs. Overall, a stress-free class worth taking.
I liked this class a lot because it allowed me to actually learn the subject without being drowned in work. She is clear about what you need to do and sets you up for success. Overall, I highly recommend Professor Bittl for an educational but fun class.
Doesn't grade according to standards.
