Pretty cool lady. Follow her guidelines, which are many, for lab books and you can't go wrong... even if you screw up the lab.
Be prepared to spend time doing your work in this class. Very easy grader though (curves quizes & tests)
she is a good teacher
Excellent lab instructor. Very patient, and very helpful. The notebook has to be extremely detailed, but she tells you EXACTLY what needs to go in it every week. No ambiguity. Very cool lady and great instructor.
You have to work really hard to get good grades in the class. I dont think she curves grades anymore.

Awesome lab instructor!!!! She always is helpful and will gout of her way to make sure you understand the processes and concepts. The lab book is tedious but she is very clear in her expectations. Quizzes can be difficult, and MUCH WORK IS REQUIRED FOR LAB!!! But the class is awesome, I learned everything for O-Chem in lab, not in lecture.
Very fair instructor. She really cares about her students and helps you in any way she can!
Dickinson seems really uptight but but once you talk to her its the exact opposite. she's so nice and helpful during labs. She is a point nazi though when grading your lab notebooks; she takes off 2 pts every TIME you misspell a word. She gives quizzes before each lab that are SO hard.
I never got over the fact that Prof. ****inson talked to us like kindergarteners (not out of disrespect, but habit I suppose). Labs are tedious and often long, but she explains them thoroughly (too much so I'd say), and is nice and helpful. She's a strict grader, but I think she threw out the lowest 1 or 2 lab grades. Study for the quizzes.
she talks too much and fast therefore makes the class boring!
She is a great teacher. I hate science and am horrible at chem. but she is very helpful and very nice. Weekly quizzes and homework but they're easy if you pay attention. Take her class!
so she's a good professor but she talks WAYYY too fast and it makes the subject soo much harder. if you go in understanding chem, i bet it's a little easier but when you go in knowing next to nothing, you are screwed. good luck!
She is an awesome teacher. Its an easy class if you've taken a biology or chemistry class in highschool, and if not you may need to do some real studyin. She hardly gives any homework, just once every two weeks with a test the following day. Super nice and is willing to drop a couple of you lowest scores. I loved this class!
Shes not too hard if you do have background in chem. The work load isnt bad just alot of studying. She doesnt leave a lot of room to ask questions or elaborate on some subjects. Class moves really fast. The exams are worth alot! The final is cumulative and worth a lot of the final grade.
She really tries to make sure the students do well in her class. She posts study guides on webct and practice test/questions. As long as you do the study guide and review the practice questions you'll do good on the test. 6 tests, one is dropped. You dont really have to go to class because the notes are posted on Webct.
By far the one of the best teachers i have ever had. She explains things very well and makes the sciences seem very applicable. She will go out of her way to help you if you ask. The class is fast paced so bring a notebook. Overall a great class and teacher.
I loved this teacher...she was really approachable and even gave us all the powerpoint online..just print them out..come to class write extra notes as needed and you'll be fine! Open book tests...i had a great time with this class..not too bad. does talk a lil fast but all good if u give some effort!
super nice & helpful. can be a bit of a hard grader on lab reports. doesn't mind explaining things & always willing to help. if your stuck on a question from the lab, just ask & she'll explain it so you get it without giving the answer away directly. only had 3 lab quizzes & 10 labs (cause of furloughs) & the lowest score of each gets dropped.
She is a great lab teacher. she lets you miss one lab and one quiz so if you're sick or cannot attend class you won't get a zero. There are 3 quizzes and about 13 labs. The labs are very easy and she lets you use your notes and lab reports on the quizzes. Great teacher overall. Very helpful if you just ask and she is very enthusiastic and loud.

Great professor, really into chemistry. EASY class. No need to buy the book, all the notes for the test are on power point which are online. Attendance is optional. 6 tests, which you can use one page of notes on. 2 are dropped.
AWESOME. I used to hate science, but she makes it so clear to understand, that it is one of my easier classes. She is very passionate about science, and I have learned a lot from her. Definitely made me more open to the subject. Favorite teacher at cal state so far!
Very nice teacher and very energetic about the subject. One issue is that she talks really quickly, so you have to pay attention. Otherwise, the class is very straightforward and easy.
Had a hard time staying awake in her class. If I had actually read the assignments I probably would've gotten a better grade, but I passed with a C
I ended up with an A in the class! Very good professor, but the class is fast paced. Never get behind in lecture, make sure you understand each day's worth of notes. Very helpful and interesting course overall.
Very good lab professor. She does speak very quickly but is always available for clarification. Weekly quizzes are given for the day's lab but she allows students to have the pre-lab questions for referrence.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Extremely helpful, and makes the material easier to understand. Very enthusiastic about Chem, and always in a good mood. Great professor.
Dr. Dickinson is very knowledgable and knows what she is talking about. She is one of my favorite teachers because she is super clear and understands how hard it is to learn some of the topics within Chemistry. Make sure to go to Activity.. it helps a lot. Tests are easy if you study and if you do the online homework. She cracks jokes sometimes.
This professor does not know how to properly teach a science class. Speaks way to fast and disappointed that she taught straight from the powerpoints without any real good analogies to help you picture some concepts. The online work is a good tool but she depends on it too much to help students I would'nt suggest this professor.
This class was hard. I'm pre-nursing and she had us drawing a millions of structures which is ridiculous for nursing majors since we will never be doing that in our career. Take the professor mendoza, he doesn't have you do any of that drawing on his exams. Her exams took forever because of the drawing.
This teacher makes class really boring. All she does is ramble on and on and it's hard for you to focus because the way she teaches is boring. Also you'll feel like she's speaking another language because she doesn't do very well at explaining. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER.
A lot of online work with a poorly designed program, but she is overall good.
I thought i LOVED chemistry but i ended up changing my major.. The way she explains concepts are super boring-__- literlly had an earphone in to stay awake the whole semester. DO ALEKS!!! it will make or break ur grade. i passed ever test with a F, D, or C the whole time be happy if you get a C. Ended up getting a B- in the class:) so releaved
Snoooze fest seriously. Exams are hard! half the class fails every single one. Only a small percent of ppl actually get A's on the exams. My advice find these ppl and sit next to them:) I passed every exam with a D or C-. Ended up with a B in the class. Do the online work and go to the labs. EVERY POINT COUNTS, dnt miss one cuzz she WILL NOT CURVE
Great professor! Loved the way she taught. I learned a lot in this class and was helped a lot by her.
She's a great teacher. If you don't get the material, attending chem activity sesh will really help as long as you're not afraid to ask questions (I never read the textbook). She is fair with test I would say. Other than that, not a bad professor
I do NOT recommend her. I love chemistry and in high school, I got up to organic chemistry, but taking her 150 class, I was so lost. Seriously, she goes so fast and doesn't explain well. She just talks and talks and does not really give a chance for her students to process and ask questions. I am retaking it next semester...
To all people. I will you that she is one of the most difficult classes to take with. She smiles everyday but I don't think it is sincere. You will fail if you don't have a strong background in Chemistry. You have been warned
Science has always been my least interesting subject even now. Her class is challenging but i think she's fair. If you want a higher grade, do all of the extra credit she offers in the homework. There are only five written assignments but there are not hard.
Excellent lecturer. Clear, concise, and willing to answer questions despite volume of information she must cover. Plenty of opportunities to achieve a solid score. The exams are fast-paced, and you need to drill practice problems if you want to finish the exams in the allotted time. Highly recommend Dr. D.
This is definitely a class that needs a good amount of devotion in order to pass. 3 tests, 10 weekly quizzes, weekly ALEKS hw, and a weekly activity session. My advice, do ALL the ALEKS hw. As for Dickinson, she has a tendency to speak very fast when covering the subject so it's kinda difficult to comprehend what's being said. Use ALEKS to study.
Worst professor ever!!!!! She does not know how to teach, exams are hard as well as the final. Overall do NOT take this class with her unless you want your gpa to go down.
This is your typical "weed out class". A class that seperates the men from the boys so to speak. This class requires your devotion and hard work. I am now a upper classman and all my science classes make this one look like a joke. Work hard and apply yourself, you will ace every science class you take. If not, you will fail.
I'm not going to beat around the bush with this: she is a very challenging professor who expects a lot from her students. However, she is the best prof I've had at this college, even as being the most difficult. She is fast paced, but extremely helpful. If you want to challenge yourself and learn a lot, take her class. I got an A, you can too.
She moves extremely fast and will not slow down for anything. You only get 40 minutes for tests AND she lectures before tests. She breaks her promises about scoring on quizzes. She's rude, and in fact, gets angry at students who get up to use the restroom. I would not recommend subjecting yourself to this class.
Have to be honest and say this class is a bit tough but as long as you take notes and do your worksheets you'll be good though. She gives you a lot of extra credit opportunities and will answer your questions before the quiz. Just do a lot of studying and finish your worksheets and you'll be good. I learned so much
English speaking with no accent=CHECK! Clear speaking, clear presentation and comprehendible=CHECK! Helpful if you seek additional help or have a hard time understanding material=CHECK! The rest is up to you. You earn what you put in. Picky with grading lab notebooks so follow exactly her demands. You will learn for sure.
She's an excellent professor, very passionate about what she teaches. Tells you EXACTLY what she wants in your lab notebooks, so there's no reason not to do well. Quizzes in the beginning of each class are pretty hard. Make sure you study!
Probably the best professor I've had at this school. A lot of material to be covered but if you attend class regularly and do all of the ALEKS you are fine. If you have any confusion she is very helpful and approachable. If you have a lot going on communicate with her and she'll make accommodations. Lab she was great too!
She loves what she is doing and it really shows. Class material is hard but she makes it bearable. Class is very straight forward and she is willing to clarify anything if needed.
Great Professor. Just four tips for this class: 1. Try to do ALL online homework assignments, they will help you out in the long run 2. Attend activity sections and do the worksheets. It's extra credit. 3. For the exams, do the review questions. They are very helpful 4. For the Final exam, just study the old exams.
Avoid this class!!!! She is extremely fast paced and will not slow down in lectures, the only students that do well are those who took chem in HS. You will spend 10+ hours on homework and other assignments in this class. She makes all of the lectures and activities mandatory with attendance via worksheets. Do not fall behind in this class.
I only had her for lab. Tough grader for labs .Pre lecture lab quizzes don't do much for you to prepare for labs. Be expected to know the labs because that is exactly what she expects. Your on your own in labs.
She talks fast in the lectures, mostly because it's only a 50 min class, but the activity part of the class really helps solidify the things she's lecturing about. There's Aleks homework due every week, it really helped me to practice before the weekly quizes on Fridays. She's a helpful and funny teacher. The lab class with her is easy!
A bit hard to keep up since she moves fast but class in general was not too tough. Provides practice exams and review questions before the exams. Read the textbook and Utilize the stem center! They know her well and can give great study pointers for this class. If you stay on top of the notes and hw you shouldn't fall behind and should be okay.
I only took her for lab. You have a quiz due before the lab. You have three attempts to get a good grade. A huge chunk of the grade is based on lab reports. She is a tough grader. Whenever you ask for help, I felt as if she made you look sort of dumb because she would laugh while trying to explain the concept.
She admits that EVERY SEMESTER more than 50% of students do not pass. I'm a straight A student who never missed a class and I did not pass after giving this my all. Her tests are 50 min and there's nearly 50 questions, that involve calculations, so there's a impossible task. Homework alone takes 10+ hours weekly. She lectures VERY fast
Recommend taking a prechem class @ a JC if you don't remember chem from HS. Create a study group & go to the STEM center. Gives you constants on the final so do not spend your time memorizing them, final is 25% material you learn in the last two weeks. Exams are difficult. Class is fast paced. Do not take unless you have 10+ hrs a week to spare.
I took AP Chem in High School and without that, I wouldn't have passed this class. She talks very fast, so it's difficult to take good notes. Her tests also do not correlate very well with her classwork or the notes. She gives you the "easy" version in class and the difficult versions on tests. The only way I learned something was the online HW
One of the toughest classes I've taken. You need to know the material before going to the exam. The exams are tough and don't give you a lot of time to complete them. Study groups, STEM center, and office hours are your friend. I've had to retake the course to pass with a C the second time. You can pass this class but you need to be dedicated.
She goes super fast. ALEKS homework is such a pain in the butt too.
Worst professor at CSUSM. Lecture, workbook assignments, and Aleks homework are three entirely separate parts to this class that are not cohesive at all. Lectures were overly complicated and confusing, learned all of the material on my own outside of class. She is condescending and not helpful at all. Avoid if possible. Worst professor at CSUSM.
Would not recommend this teacher if you have a full time job. The homework takes a lot of time to complete because the website deducts points when you're incorrect and you have to get 100% on each topic to move on to the next.
She is an amazing teacher! I really hated chemistry in high school, but it was only because she was terrible. Ann is a great professor really explains things well. Her quizzes and exams are a little difficult but if you show up to class and do the hw it should be an easy A.
I did not have a very clear aspect when it came to Chemistry. I took the class in High School, but still did not learn a thing. For this class it was difficult, but with hard and sleepless nights I am passing. She is very fast when it comes to lectures, but overall a great professor. The class is already curved, plenty of opportunites to pass
Hard class, but she's nice and gives help when you need it. Talks fast, but the power points are online. Do the ALEKS homework. Go to the STEM center if you need help. I recommend taking her
Worst professor ever ! I dont recommend taking this class at all. The home work takes to much time to complete she talks fast. I even took my girl friend to lecture btw CHEMISTRY major and she didnt even understand what the professor was teaching us and she already got an A+ in chem 150 and currently in organic chemistry 2. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!
Good professor. Wants you to pass her class. She is really energetic about the subject and knows a lot. Homework counts a lot toward your grade so do it and go decent on test you should with a high B or low A
Talked really fast, lectures were full of information, she expected a lot from you in such little time. Don't overload yourself if you're taking multiple hard classes.
Ann is so passionate about chemistry! You can hear it in the way she lectures. However, this is a very intense course! You NEED to attend lectures. Quiz every Monday and an exam every 2-3 weeks. Final is cumulative so do keep all of your old test and quizzes! Online hw every week. You have to be committed to this class in order to pass.
Very great course for students trying to refresh their memory for another Chem course. Lectures and powerpoints were provided online and class was dedicated to practicing the concepts. She gives good feedback and lots of extra credit.
As a pre-med student, chemistry of such a high value! I have taken various other science classes and she truly is NOT as hard as people think. She is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable in the way she teaches, but like many sciences, YOU GET WHAT YOU WORK FOR! Put in the effort and it will be an EASY A! Extra credit, Curves, office hours, email!
Her teaching way is easy to be understood, and if you don't understand anything you can ask her and she is always ready to help you. Her materials are not really hard, although they're quite so much. Every Monday you will have a quiz, just need to review your materials carefully and you can get high scores for them, and also for the exams.
Great professor who cares about her students and will answer any questions. The class is intimidating, but keep positive and do ALL the work for this class! Take advantage of the extra credit she does give, and try your hardest!
She is probably one of my favorite teachers ever. The class is difficult but not impossible she really does everything she can to help you pass. Do the homework and take notes in class and of the homework. It all helps. You do not really need the textbook. Go to her for help.
You will never have another professor who lays down such a stable foundation in your learning as well she does in Chemistry. That's all!
One of the best chemistry professors! Chem itself is tough but she tries to make it as simple as possible. Go to her lectures and office hours for questions and you'll be fine! Her lectures are heavy but helpful. There are 6 in-class midterms and the final. Online quizzes every other weekend.
she is the worst professor at CSUSM. I don't recommend taking chemistry classes with her. Chemistry is fun but she is not. She talks so fast and she is racist. She does not care about medical situations.
She was helpful during lab but had extremely difficult lab quizzes before lab began. Lab reports take HOURS to complete and there is no way to make up the points you lose for simple mistakes. Professor showed sensitivity to student difficulty but would continue to make the quizzes impossible. Was also a bit rude a couple times.
She is unreasonable and gives way too much work. She is not tech savvy. She has a test that she says is 10 questions in 15 minutes but there are 43 parts to the quiz. Quizzes are way too fast. She tries to make sure to have some letter grade A-F seems like she enjoys making sure some fail. Do not recommend her I would never take her again if I can!
She is a good teacher but her class is hard. She is very test-oriented and if you fall behind even a little then you're doomed. There is a lot of homework that is hard to find but compared to others she is good at lectures. Quizzes every week. She forgets to record lectures too. I spent about $60 on the textbook and the homework subscription. 5/10
I took her class in Spring 2020, and she was super nice and had thorough lectures. Test and quizzes were just like the practice ones she gives in the book. If someone had a question, she would go over the problem again slowly and explain in great detail. She used Aleks for homework. You really got to pay attention because she goes over content fast
She was my favorite professor! If you do the work yourself, make an effort to understand, and watch her lectures, you will do great in the class. That being said, you will have a hard time if you slack and use other people's work. You have to put in the effort to succeed and make sure you understand the material. There should be no issues
She has no reasonable accommodations. Professor Dickinson would not allow me to take a quiz early due to surgery that I needed to improve mobility. It was the talk of reporting her to the dean that changed her mind. She will test you on material not covered and falls behind on lectures. The mistakes on a test will cause you to get the answer wrong.
Dr. Dickinson is a quick lecturer so be prepared prior to class. Watch the video lecture notes and pay attention in class because if you miss one day you can get easily behind. Overall not a bad class to take for gen chem but she is quick.
I absolutely loved her. She is very understanding and if you talk to her about what is going on in your life, she is more inclined to help you and want to know you more! She can be difficult but honestly if you are serious about her class and you ask questions...it's so easy to pass! I would 110% take her again!! Office hours are so helpful!
Professor was ok, she was nice but expected you to learn fast. I took her online class and it was rough. 10 questions in 15 minutes with multiple parts. Her quizzes and exams are half based on her long lectures and half based on learning through ALEKS. They are not related so for half of the class, you have to teach yourself.
I would say that she was a great professor! She was always accessible during office hours and her lectures were very easy for me to follow. We had weekly quizzes but as long as you stay on top of things and attend office hours when needed you should be fine. She posted lecture videos online, which were very helpful.
She was great and actually had me liking chem. She is very organized and a FAST grader. Every assignment was helpful and so were her lectures. She is always willing to help. Chem isn't an easy class but she makes it very possible for everyone to succeed.
