What Students Say
“Said we could go over the test in her office, to which I thought she meant she would go over what she would be looking for more specifically on the upcoming test, When I tried explaining this I got laughed at and had kids say "oh why don't you just give me the answers" to which she laughed too”

A req'd course for biotech majors. a lot of reading and work for one credit but she makes it as bearable as possible. funny teacher the 50 min goes by fast. the quizzes are ambiguous. but overall if you need help she's there and works with you.

Excellent Teacher....very knowledgable
Excellent teacher! Very helpful and makes class interesting.
it was a very interesting class and she was extremely helpful at all times.
An awesome teacher! Very helpful. Always there when you need her.
Great teacher! Loved her class, I thought genetics would be a nightmare (lots of information) but she breaks it down in a simple form and never makes you feel discouraged if you don't understand something or if you need help.
Awesome> Funny, sweet. She was the lab teacher for our section of online micro bio with oncampus lab. Totally professional when we grumbled about the "other" teacher.Serious about Micro...makes ya work but also works hard herself to help you do well
Wonderful teacher. I had her for mIcrobiology and even though the subject was very challenging she tried to best to help us understand the material and make it as painfree as possible. She is always available. Her lab quizes were hard and so were her tests. so study hard.
Awesome teacher to work with, she does everything to make it understandable, however her lecture tests were extremely hard, I'm a science person and I just couldn't follow her. Her labs were easy, the quizzes were a bit difficult but ok, alot of material so study hard.
Fantastic Professor. I suggest not taking it in the Summer though, because it is very intense. She is straight-forward, funny, realistic, and her office hours range from early in the morning all the way until late afternoon.
I took her for Microbiology over the summer, it is a very hard course but if you do the work and study you will do fine. She is the best professor I've ever had, very helpful and will help you with anything you need.
80's sitcom mom for the win!
Very good teacher all around
She is an awesome teacher. Keeps the class interesting even in the most boring subjects. She's really funny and is very personable. Her tests are hard, but she is willing to work with you.
UNCLEAR METHOD- NeVer Puts It All TOGETHER???
Mrs Evancoe is an awesome teacher. Tests are very hard and there is a lot of studying required but worth taking this teacher. You will learn alot if you are willing to. I would take her again and would recommend her to anyone I know taking Microbiology
This is the only class I studied for in my life and probebly will fail. Half the stuff on the test are never heard of. Shes cool though but her tests suk
although i failed the class it was my own fault for not taking it as seriously as i sould have. she is always willing to help and WANTS everyone to do well. if you have her my advice is to take the help that is offered. especially the reviews for tests. also TAKE NOTES. she will say things in class that are helpfull on tests.
This professor is helpful to a point. She gives some help but is a tough grader for labs and her tests are literally every single slide she goes over. It's hard to know what you should really study for. She also has her favorites early on and likes to impose her opinion on others. She thinks her class is the most important one to study for.
Awesome teacher her labs are fun and relates all labs to real life stuff.very helpful in explaining things
I only had her for lab, not lecture. She is a tough grader, but an awesome professor. Anyone from my class (Fall 2011, Varma lecture)who posts that she is a poor teacher is WRONG! If you were in class and handed in the work you got a good grade. The rest of the class didn't hand their labs in on time.
absolutely favorite teacher I've ever had. Worked my butt off but finally got the A in Micro. It's not an easy course, but she is always ready to help and makes her classes funny and extremely helpful. do NOT skip class..and get her for lab too. Can't praise her enough!
Evancoe is one of the best teachers I've had. I'd recommend her for anyone taking micro. You don't need the textbook. The course is challenging and the tests are very hard but if you study enough and know the material; you WILL do well. I suggest not taking this course over the summer and only taking it with 2 easy classes. You will learn so much.
Yes this is a hard class. But, if you go to class, read the notes, ASK QUESTIONS, and have stock in the the company that makes index cards you will do fine. I would recommend her to anyone.
so hard, this class is awful. tests are nearly impossible to pass.
Currently taking Mrs. Evancoe and she is extremely bright and interesting in lecture and lab! She is passionate about her course material and funny. She DOES expect you to learn and study but holds pre-exam review sessions and answers all questions with helpful info- gives study guides as well. Challenging, fun, not impossible.
She is hands down the best teacher I've had at HVCC. This class is not for you if you're not willing to study hard but Mrs. Evancoe makes the class very interesting and is extremely helpful and willing to answer any and all questions. She's hilarious and class is rarely boring. I highly recommend her if you're taking micro
I had Mrs. E for both the lab and lecture and she is honestly one of the best profs I've ever had in my college yrs!! Not to mention she's very funny and makes microbiology interesting. This is NOT an easy class however, if you actually study and use flashcards it is not possible. She's a great prof and it was a pleasure to be in her class.
I had Mrs. E for both the lab and lecture and she is honestly one of the best profs I've ever had in my college yrs!! Not to mention she's very funny and makes microbiology interesting. This is NOT an easy class however, if you actually study and use flashcards it is not impossible. She's a great prof and it was a pleasure to be in her class.
Mrs. Evancoe is the best teacher I have ever had. I have never learned so much in a class. Her tests are hard, but she has review sessions, and she is always there to help her students out. Take her, but be prepared to work for your grade. She really is awesome.
As everyone else has said: Mrs. Evancoe is the best! She is genuinely funny, and tries to make the class as interesting as possible. She is fair, but the material is an absolute nightmare! If you are working full time (like me) I would recommend taking this class and a ton of easy ones because this class should be your main focus, if not your only!
I had Mrs. Evancoe for both the lab and lecture. This is a really hard class. A part of the stuff on the test are never heard of, student can't find them on the powerpoint. She's a good teacher even her test is hard to pass.
Medical Terminology, online. The time limits for tests and quizzes made this class way harder, you didn't have enough time to think and you had to answer one question at a time and couldn't go back to change answers. She also didn't seem to answer anyone's questions and was hard to reach. It's a TON of information and the final is cumulative.
I had her for Microbiology. This is an extremely hard course. She makes the class interesting and tries to make the material a little easier to learn. She is absolutely amazing when it comes to needing help understanding. She is very fair. I would recommend her to anyone that has to take this course!!!!!
Very nice lady and extremely funny! However, the material is a nightmare and her tests are impossible!! Received a D and I have always been an A student! If u take microbiology with Mrs.Evancoe be prepared to study a lot!
Great prof who wants her students to do well. Her lectures dont follow along with the book at all which makes studying for her exams EXTREMELY difficult and she flies through power points so if you dont print out the slides ahead of time your screwed. I would say she is 1000% better in lab than lecture.. but overall probably the best option at HVCC
Professor Evancoe is extremely helpful. She always had review sessions when she could, always offered office hours and really wants all her students to succeed. The only way you won't is if you don't study and put in the effort that is required for this tough course. If you're taking Micro take it with her, you'll have a great time and learn alot!
She is a great person, very sweet and funny. She has a great sense of humor and made class interesting. However, her tests are not that nice! Be prepared to study...a lot!
Professor Evancoe is very approachable, and offers help whenever you ask. I have only had one encounter with her and she was very clear, helpful and kind. I'd love to take her lecture class to gain more benefit. I have only taken her online course.
I've found that the best professors are not only super-intelligent, but also eccentric. Prof Evancoe is definitely both - and her enthusiasm for the topic is infectious. This class requires a lot of effort - memorizing, and understanding the underlying theory. Put your nose to the grindstone, and you'll do fine. And have a laugh while in class/lab.
Very structured class. Power point provided goes through each slide without skipping around. LOTS of info but if you put the time in you will do fine. Lab quiz every week on previous weeks lab, so study & pay attention. VERY helpful with any question you have. If you visit her during office hours she will explain it to you how ever you will learn.
She's a great professor but the content is extremely difficult. You have to devote a lot of your time for studying and actually understanding the topics. Notes are online, but go to class. She's very good at explaining things. If you need this class, take it with Evancoe.
She is a pleasant person but she makes her lab quizzes and exams hard which is frustrating because the class is hard enough as it is. She jumps all over the places so you can't read chapters which is also frustrating because the slides she gives are very vague. Overall, I would NOT recommend her.
Professor Evancoe NEVER answered to emails... while the issue with the website we were using wasn't her fault she was not available at all when I had an issue. She never responded to several of my emails. I understand this is an online course but it is still contributing to my GPA!!!!! DO NOT take with her...
By far the best microbiology teacher teaching in Hudson Valley. She gives extra credit and holds study sessions for exams. She also gave me all the attention I needed, when it comes to questions she will help you. This coarse is challenging, but fun. I recommend her to anybody planning on taking microbiology. I encourage more guys to take it !!
Professor Evancoe is a sweet lady and wants her students to succeed. She offers EC occasionally and holds study sessions before exams.. Go to them.. Come to class prepared to take notes and listen to lectures and you'll pass.. It's not an easy class but with hard work it's passable :) One of the best professors I've had at HVCC.
I had Professor Evancoe for a one credit online course, so I am only grading on that experience. I was not thrilled when I found out I had to take this course, but Evancoe made it bearable. There is one assignment due per week, but she is a pretty easy grader and very encouraging. I would consider taking a lecture course of hers in the future.
She is well meaning, but teaches medical terminology more as a class in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and lab tests. Asks trick questions as well as questions that border on the ridiculous for "medical terminology" such as "which of these is the smallest leukocyte?" Needs to focus on teaching terminology primarily. Misses the mark - awful.
this class is ridiculous, not a good medical terminology class had to retake this class because the school did not accept my med term from another school and her material is ass backwards some words have multiple meanings and she does not give you credit for that its her way or its wrong, and you only get 70 min for a 150 question final!!!!!
Professor Evancoe was one of the nicest professors I've ever had. No, Microbiology material isn't easy, so don't expect that. You get what you work for with her. Go to class, enjoy her hilarious lectures, and then study. You're only going to do well if you put in work on your end. I learned so much from this course, and I had to take it in 6 weeks.
Professor Evancoe is one of the nicest teachers. She is very accommodating and helpful. Her lectures are also very helpful, although some reading may be required. I had many computer issues and she allowed me to make up over due assignments. I had Evancoe for Microbiology and she was such an amazing teacher, I decided to do her Med. Term. class.
Professor Evancoe is a kind, hilarious human being. Class feels more like a conversation, and she's always saying funny things. Her tests are hard. You never know what's going to be on them. You really have to know everything and study very hard. She does try to help you succeed though, and is more than happy to help and work with you.
Ms. Evancoe is fantastic. She is extremely sweet and up-front about what she wants in the class, and provides MULTIPLE extra credit opportunities for students who may be falling behind. The tests are long, but if you know the material you should be golden. She's a great teacher and a great person!
Great lectures for Microbiology, very clear. It's a tough course but she makes it doable. Tough tester and can be down putting. I'm glad I'll never have to see her again. Good luck and study hard! Attend classes and office hours are available, go to them they're helpful.
Taking medical term with this professor has been the worst experience ever! No extra credit, and time allocated for tests and exams is not enough! just completed my final online, 70minutes for 150 questions? Really? Test questions are not straight forward. Terrible! Wouldn't recommend this class to anyone! Take it at another CC, just not here!
Very nice professor her lectures are very interesting however, her tests are very hard and long. Her slides are vague and you need to put in ALOT of time outside of this class to get a decent grade because her tests are not straight foward. She offers multiple extra credit opportunities so make sure you do them all you will need them
Evancoe is a great professor, but expects you to apply the knowledge. That means that if you do not know the material your grade will show it. When I needed help,I went to her office hours- she broke the material down to make it easier. She really knows her stuff!
Said we could go over the test in her office, to which I thought she meant she would go over what she would be looking for more specifically on the upcoming test, When I tried explaining this I got laughed at and had kids say "oh why don't you just give me the answers" to which she laughed too. Very inappropriate. Not helpful.
I am taking Evancoe for a six week intensive Micro course. There is a lot of material but she posts her lectures and gives review sheets for each exam. Her lectures are interesting and funny. Her laboratory is more relaxed than lecture. You can really see how much she enjoys being a micro professor. I highly recommend her for Micro at HVCC.
Professor Evancoe is a great teacher. I took her over the summer for micro lab and lecture. Lab is so easy and she gives plenty of extra credit. Lecture on the other hand is much more challenging and the grade is only based on a few tests. Her lectures can be funny and easy to follow but we went through everything pretty fast so keep up!
She explains too much like to other professors. She knows her stuff but she is not good for college students. You memorize and give back instead of retaining.
people average 71% on test (many are taking it for a 2nd time) weekly lab quiz(fill in no multiple choice),pre lab that is extra credit ,Lab q's,A lab final worth more than half of your grade & for lecture weekly vocab quizes,& homework assignments that are not clear i am not being bitter i am literally trying to save you do not take this class
Professor E is the best!! Micro is one of the hardest classes you will ever take, but she does an amazing job of simplifying it all down to a level that makes it not so hard. She gives tons of extra credit in lab. Her tests are easy as long as you study the notes. She's really sweet, cares about you doing well and is absolutely hysterical as wel!
Although the class is the hardest thing I will ever take, I'll gladly take it again with Evancoe. She gives out extra credit like it's candy on almost everything she hands out. If you don't understand it, she'll work with you. DON'T SKIP! You miss 3 labs you will not pass, skip lecture and you'll fall behind.
Learned so much-its the hardest class I have taken so far but professor Evancoe teaches in a way you understand and remember. She is helpful (extra study groups outside of class GO TO THEM!) and smart .
If you want an easy A, this is definitely not the class for you. However, if you have to take it- Evancoe has great lectures, outlines them accordingly, is easily accessible for extra help, holds test prep a few times before each test.. However (again) she makes you work for it. She's tough, but fair. And that's hard to find.
It's a hard class--weekly lab and vocabulary quizzes, online homework, lots to memorize, and labs that take almost a full three hours, but she is fairly clear on what she wants you to know, is always upbeat and fun(almost motherly), makes herself available to help outside of class, and gives lots of helpful handouts. Best professor I've had so far.
BE READY TO CRY!!!! Weekly vocab quizzes, lab quizzes and a stupid project, that takes up your time!
Shes great! Knows her stuff and brings it down to students level. Yes, you will work hard, but she will help you get through the material. Best Micro Prof @ HVCC !
I am taking her 6 week summer class for Micro. It isn't easy and lots of work but if you stay on top of it you will be fine. I record her lectures which makes it easier. I also think having a background in both A&P I and II as well as both intro chems it makes this class so much easier to understand. Prof Evancoe is hilarious and makes class fun!
The class is tough, but micro wasn't meant to be easy. Ann is a great professor, really takes the time to go out of her way and tell you the background on many things. She does require homework every week and vocab quizzes, but everything you do is material you need to know for the test, so it helps. Tests are fair, if you actually study.
Took her for medical terminology and though the course content isn't difficult, she is not very helpful to her online students. I asked what my grade was in the class and I was told to calculate it myself. It makes me wonder if she even has the grade calculated.
Prof. Evancoe is an amazing professor. She knows an extensive amount about Microbiology, and is able to break down and explain the information enough that it is understandable. She tests hard, so attending the lecture is key to success. She has a great sense of humor, and is very personable.
I really should have read those comments prior to taking this class. Med Term is not a requirement for my degree, I decided to take just to help my understanding. BIG MISTAKE. Exams are 50 questions for only 30 minutes!!!! She doesn't respond to your emails. Final is 150 questions 90 mns. Its unfortunate HVCC doesn't have another option.
Love Prof. Evancoe! She makes sure her students understand and is very willing to provide extra help to students who need it. She is a very approachable lady and a great Micro prof.
Absolutely LOVED BioEthics. Professor Evancoe was clear with her directions and made the class fun. Also, she gave real life examples and scenarios. Would recommend to anyone!
She's hilarious & really makes it fun to learn but her tests are VERY specific & she says herself it's normal for most people to get below 65% on the first test. She's not clear on how ?'s will be asked on the tests & her Mastering homework is basically a test in itself. She's a great prof but don't take her if you can't pick things up quickly.
Dunno how a teacher who ignores her students entirely still has a job. DO NOT TAKE AN ONLINE CLASS WITH THIS LADY IF YOUR GPA IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. Even for someone well versed in med terms, this class was a joke with how fast you were expected to answer 150 questions! You're given a book and expected to know EVERYTHING in it, no guidance at ALL.
I took online class. I don't know what is the system of class but online she is pretty clear with her instructions.
Evancoe's lectures are convoluted, confusing and often go off topic. Tests are insanely specific and not based on anything discussed/stressed in class. She's nice and funny, but that's not enough to recommend her - she makes this class unnecessarily difficult by presenting the material in such an unorganized way.
Worst professor I have ever had at hvcc, she is rude and doesnt not care about her students. This professor needs to learn kindness and be more kind to her students.
She doesn't answer her email. And it was a medical terminology course!! The HW was ridiculous. The exams were hard and you only had 30 minutes to take a 50 question exam!! And not only did you have to know prefix suffix and root words, which is what I expected. BUT you also needed to know diseases, pharmacology, and anatomy!! I'm super frustrated!
Worst experience Ive ever had with a professor. Ignored every email I sent her the entire course even after I contacted the head of the department. Basically had to learn 15 chapters and answer questions about anatomy&physiology, not just med term. Would post wrong due dates that opposed syllabus and then would deduct points. Wish I could rate 0
Was never an online class before... so why act like your not even there. She was barely a teacher. Never did lectures, just gave a bunch of work and had us teach ourselves. Would prefer a teacher who is going to teach us the body parts instead of teaching myself, so i can learn the body properly with a teachers guidance!
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Don't expect her to teach you anything or help you in any way as she has little respect for her students' needs and grades. She expects you to learn it on your own. Don't recommend taking this class with her... good thing I was taking A&P this semester too or else I would've struggled big time w/this class
This class is a Pearson class with quizzes tacked on. The professor does not interact with the students whatsoever outside of emails and occasional updates on Brightspace. The homework is Pearson flash exercises that are buggy. You get about 6-9 of these a week, on top of DB, quiz, and a test every 3 weeks. Do not take this class, it is a scam.
This is a difficult course. There's a lot of material to cover and the professor expects students to earn their grades. She is fair and understanding. You just have to put the effort in.
Her directions are clear, grading is fair, and feedback from discussions is good. It is totally on line, lectures are ppt and her scheduling keeps you on track.
AVOID BY ALL MEANS! This course is just a Pearson course with some low quality quizzes added on. It is just such low quality compared to other courses at Hudson Valley. The professor doesn't seem to care about this class. I feel like I wasted money and learned nothing while tanking my GPA. I wish I'd dropped when I had the chance. DO. NOT. TAKE.
She was a good teacher, her class is a very easy one and I would definitely take it again. The only had assignments that you had to do was a discussion board and those were super easy to complete. If you're looking for an easy A then her class is for you.
I never used Brightspace in my life and the first week I didn't know how to do discussion board assignments. I missed two of them and so did my friends. During midterms, I noticed my grades were very low. I emailed her so many times asking if I could make it up or do anything to bring my grade up, she hardly answered. Very unsympathetic.
Clear guidelines, organized and keeps you on task. If you don't know how to use Brightspace (learning platform used) there are plenty of tutorials in the course information for you to learn how. Lots of memorization- homework helps. Textbook is one I will keep to refer to- it helps with Anatomy and Physiology!
SHE WILL NOT ANSWER YOUR EMAILS. She failed me after posting the WRONG TIME to submit the final paper-- Made it due 12 hours earlier than it should've been. I WAS AT WORK! And she did not answer any of my emails throughout the entire semester. Terrible teacher. The posts are just regurgitated assignments from previous years-- PPTs are OUTDATED.
