Very Very Nice ;)
Very nice teacher!

humes rocks
I liked her for all of the math classes that I had her for. I understood her and she tought me verry well. She is a really good teacher.
So Hot!
Ann is an all around great teacher. Shes got one of the best teacher-student relationships i have seen at a college.
great teacher
If you ever have a chance to take Math with Anne Humes take her, she is very helpful and willing to go over things that are not understood until you get them. She is very understanding and makes class exciting. GO ANNE YOU ROCK!
excellent teacher, the most understanding teacher i have ever had, if you have to take a class she teachs get it
Good teacher, willing to work with students if they have problems. HAVE TO GO TO CLASS! She does not like people who skip her class regularly. If you have questions go see her in her office hours.
Excellent teacher. Explains things well, always available for questions. Very clear with class agendas and instructions. If you go to class and communicate with her she will go out of her way to help you. Highly recommended.
Great teacher, actually teaches so one can understand. Cares about her students and knows everyones name.

hate her attitude.
she really wants to see her students succeed in her class and will help you to see you through.
Good teacher.. I just suck at math.
Actually teaches..........most of the time
Ann is an amazing teacher!! She takes the time to help everyone even if she sometimes forgets her meetings..:) She even lets her students come to her house if they need to extra help, she is a great and positive person and I would take all my other classes from her because she is easy to learn from...
Good!
She's fun, and a good teacher. She will give you extra info about tests and quizes most of the time, if you see her at her office hours.
Ann is the best. Simple as that.
hot and wants everyone do good.

She's very clear in her teachers, but her attitude toward the students is...different. Can't explain it, but I didn't like that about her. Otherwise she was a great as far as teaching and helping you succeed in class goes. She's willing to help you outside of class. Doesn't collect homework ever. Curved her class when I was in it. Exams easy.
Best math teacher I've ever had. I wish I could take her for all of the rest of my math requirements.
Ann is always willing to help and she makes calculus as interesting as possible
Ann is a sweet teacher, she is very helpful, very funny if you have a sense of humor, and not hard to get a decent grade. Ann if you're reading this, "Your Awesome!"
very helpful teacher. All you need to do is go along with her and she'll give you all the help that you could possibly need.
She seems to be impatient at times with giving help. Seems to get very frustrated when students don't get the point.
I go to her office hours as often as I can and she doesn't seem to get frustrated at all. She has a positive attitude and always does a great job of explaining things.
Great professor. Knows how to teach.
She's an awesome instructor. She wants her students to succeed, has a positive attitude, and she's also funny if you have a little bit of a sense of humor.
This is easily by far the best instructor that I've ever had in a math class. She is very easy to understand and explains the concepts very clear and well. Would highly recommend her to students who want to do well in calculus. Ann is awesome!!
Very helpful teacher... cares for her students, and has a sense of humor. Exams are pretty straight forward off of material taught in class. Go to class, and you'll do well.
Had her for both 1032 and 1161. Good teacher but she likes using online homework which I did not mind but some people dislike it.
Ann Humes is amazing. Not only did I easily learn calculus in a large class but i wanted to go because she was so great. Also, she is the 1st year math director so she rights the final and tells you exactly what you need to know.
A nice woman. Tells corny jokes in class. She goes slow, sometimes almost maddeningly slow, yet still covers the same amount of material as the other 1161 teachers. Cares and wants to see students pass. Overall a good experience.
She is a wonderful professor. She is always there and has a very flexable schedule. Wants to see you pass the class. P.S she is one of the only American Math professors in the Math Department that knows what she is doing. I totally wish I had her for my other math course. Also, she is funny.
Great prof
Glad I got to be her first class teaching calc two. She had NO idea what she was doing, and only read of her notes. In my eyes, she was the worst math teacher at tech for sure.
She may have been great for calc one, but for calc two she has absolutely NO idea what she is doing. I would have picked taking it online over with her. GOOD LUCK.
Horrible instructor to have for Calc 2. She made mistakes constantly and students corrected her daily. Her "exam reviews" are as about as useful as doing yoga to study. The jokes she tells make Walmart greeters look like comedians. When you look at these ratings, keep in mind they are mostly for Calc 1 & below. Be ready to teach yourself.
Calc two students: be ready to teach yourself. She talks more about her family than lecture material. Lectures consist of re-writing her notes because she has no idea what she is doing.
Well, I was going for a math minor until I took this class. The material was not actually "taught." She just tells stories, goes over problems, and calls on people. Quizzes were too long to finish (only a few people did). I didn't even get to the exam, I care too much about my GPA. Avoid this professor if you can.
AMAZING! She taught very, very well, our class actually broke the mean record for one of our exams. She is funny and but gets to the point in each lecture. Strongly recommended.
she actually teaches calc just for 10 min in a 40 min class. All she talks is her sick husband all the time. so its hard to understand her just in 10 min
Ann is really an amazing professor! She really cares about her students and tries her best to make sure you understand the material.
My favorite prof thus far at Tech. Always responds promptly to emails, and will go out of her way to find time to help you understand the material even if you can't make her office hours. Calc 2 is a hard class, but if you work hard on your own and use her as a resource when needed, Humes makes an A in the class completely doable.
Ann is a great professor. She makes her students a priority and made sure she knew all our names by the end of the first week. Really understands her students and always tries to help. Definitely one of my favorite professors at MTU.
Prides herself on knowing all the names of her students, and remembers you even years after you take her class. Helpful and friendly during office hours. Truly wants to help all of her students pass.
Ann is the worst teacher I ever had for calc 2 period. Don't take this class on the summer. She seems nice like she cares about the students but in the end you see how she truly is. I would take any class with her again !!! She gives a lot of homework just goes thru some questions, basically you need to teach yourself at home. "CALC 2"
Got me from a failed grade to an AB the next time i took the class, shes great! Always available in her office and super helpful in office hours. Knows everyone by name and is always upbeat and enthusiastic about math.
Great professor
She could not care LESS about her students, everyone I know who took her classes failed out, dropped, or had to retake the course. She repeatedly encouraged students to drop her class instead of seeking help with learning the material if they had a poor grade. Rarely available or willing to offer help. Made students feel bad for asking questions
Very nice lady. Passionate about mathematics and it shows. No complaints here.
Her motto "Fall behind and you get left behind" She doesn't care for her students, she goes through things so fast. You may as well copy the notes then study it at home later, seeing as you already need to teach yourself everything at home already with her "flipped class" method. I could go off on her fore hours if there wasn't a letter limit here.
Course director for my class, makes exams VERY hard and boasts about motto fall behind, get left behind. Overall, she doesnt care about you passing and it seems to be fun for her to make this a hard course.
Goes over the material way too fast. Basically just makes you teach yourself with her flipped classroom or whatever. Exams are hard and mainly have questions that she never talked about or had on homework assignments.
She is awful and doesnt care about her students. She goes over things way too fast and basically does the problems without explaining what she did. I've had bad professors but this one is just ridiculous. Take the other professor if you don't want to teach yourself. I could say a lot more but I am trying to be nice.
I wanted to like Ann because she was always in a great mood and seemed nice on the surface, however she is often very patronizing and makes no attempts to hide it. 3 exams make up 80% of the grade and partial points are taken off whenever possible. Tough grader. "Fall behind and you get left behind" She does not care if you pass/graduate.
Amazing amazing woman and I learned so much in her class and I would definitely take it again
She has been the worst professor I have had so far with my time at Tech. She doesnt care if you pass (honestly seems like she doesnt want you to). Dont take a summer class with her because she doesnt care about you. She assigns so much homework that is worth very little of yourself grade. Grades exams very hard and gives you basically no points
She's awful and doesn't care about her students. She make an effort to accuse you of cheating. For someone who "specializes" in first year mathematics, it sure does feel like she thinks the class isn't worth her time.
I just don't get the feeling that she cares at all. She got her teaching strategies from some books she showed us. Every strategy she teaches us seems to be from these teaching books and if we don't do exactly what she read in the holy books, we might as well have skipped the problem. If I wanted the book to teach me I would've just bought it.
I think Im lucky that I take an online class and can slow down and rewind her lectures. She seems like a nice person. But your grade is based on if you follow the steps she read in a teaching book to solve the problems, rather than the mathematics behind them.
Wish she would go into more detail when going over problems. I did not study for the first two midterms and my grade suffered because of that. Ann doesn't put a lot of effort into teaching and just runs through problems without explaining how they work a majority of the time
She grades things really harshly but doesn't give you any feed back. She will teach you some things, but get ready to have to google how to solve half of your homework and quiz question because they are just slightly too different from stuff in class.
It's only the start of the semester, but I can already see how this class is going to go. Humes is not accesible on weekends, because she states she does not work on weekends. Will assign homework every day, and work that takes multiple hours to complete. If you do not show work, or if she does not understand your work, you will get a 0.
Literally said she prefers online teaching and COMPLAINED about teaching the first day? Does not go through anything step by step... plus large amounts of homework.
Doesnt grant extensions or answers questions on weekends. In-person lectures are just going over a packet students have to print out before class. All the learning material is a poorly recorded lecture online.
Ann is a nice woman, but poor teacher. There is always a lack of explanation and she goes very fast. She assumes you understand after her very brief explanations. She is a tough grader. If your work is not done exactly the way done in class, you'll get no points.
She is a very tough grader and expects you to understand everything she's teaching with very little explanation. And you better hope you never fail a test. Avoid at all costs. NOT A TEACHER YOU WANT.
this professor is an easy F. Awful at explaining material, not lenient on grading, unhelpful if you go to her for help. Unless youre a good math student, good luck.
would never take another one of her classes
Shes just a terrible teacher. Take the class at community college.
I decieded to drop her class after studying with tutors 10 hours a week and getting a 40% on her exam even though all my anwsers were correct but the work was not done "her way". I would meet with her during her office hours begging for help and she would not help me and told me that I should drop out of college. DO NOT TAKE HER
had a lot of family issues go on while taking her class, and she would not work with me to make homework or quizzes up. be ready to teach yourself as she does not hardly explain anything. my opinion take class at community college and save your time and money
As someone who has taken her class beforehand, know that it was the fault of the school for her most recent 1 star reviews. She was put under major workloads she wasn't used to, and taught classes 7-8x bigger than what she requested. Now I have her in a class with a small class size that she prefers, and she is my favorite professor ever.
Ann is an awful teacher and a very subpar person. She expects everyone to follow her jumps in logic without explanation or being taught, and her lectures are basically useless. She changes the course constantly and without warning, ie telling us we could use calculators and then deciding day of that we couldn't. Don't take any of her classes.
She only cares about herself and looking good as a teacher. She is very mean and does not care if you are doing poorly. If you don't understand it under her terms, she just tells you you're screwed.
She is very helpful when you are struggling and makes sure you will pass if you ask for help. She is very kind during her office hours and cares about her students. She always provided excellent feedback on coursework. She is also excellent to talk to if you just want to talk to someone about life.
Very nice and wants everyone to succeed. Helpful to read over the chapters in the precalc book like she recommends before coming to class. She moves somewhat fast but she gets a lot of practice problems done which are helpful to look at while doing assignments. She is happy to help if you have questions.
This class is difficult but Ann is very transparent about what will be on exams and quizzes. If you go to class and do all the homework, it is not difficult to pass. She isn't that readily available but will respond to emails fast and does want you to succeed in the course.
If there is any way you can take calculus with any other professor, do it. The exams and homework are hard, and if you do the questions any other way than what she taught, you are wrong. She doesn't care about you, and will not help you. She gets upset when you ask questions aswell. The moral of the story is to avoid Ann Humes.
She was a terrible teacher. We had a review day and a kid asked a question and she just said no. She had questions form the homework on the exam that we had only seen once on the homework. She would get annoyed by questions and told us not to ask bother her with question from the homework. I would of pick a different teacher if i could.
Her class is easy if you pay attention during class and go to the MLC/office hours. She's a tough grader. Basically it matters more to her that you do things according to her specific formatting requirements rather than if you actually understood things conceptually. I don't recommend her class but it's better than coding in Calc w/ Technology imo.
class average on a quiz was 51% and she spent an entire class period chewing us out for it. she's going on my note bro
Doesn't explain any of her work. She will show you one time and will believe you are a master after seeing it once. Notes also don't correlate with homework, good luck if you get Ann Humes.
Jumps into the work immediately thinking you will get it. Won't explain anything and will mark you down for not doing it the Ann way. Will have to retake this class hopefully will get a master's student instead. AVOID!
She is a decent professor, if you're a motivated student and show up to class without cutting corners you'll get an AB. Her only flaw is she wants you to do everything her way regardless of if you know another strategy. Show up to class and actually do the homework and you'll be fine.
Everyone I see is complaining about her not caring and going quick but it is college. I had her and found the class engaging and easy. She goes over a few problems and then has you do one on your own for an Iclicker to show what you learned. It is similar to homework and is very clear about the exams. Pay attention and you will be fine.
Honestly just not a very kind person.
To get a good grade you just have to show up, pay attention, and study. There's definitely a learning curve because she's a tough grader, but after the first exam you should be able to identify what you need to work on and what you have down. STUDY!!! Don't cram and you'll be fine. Plus, Ann is pretty funny don't be afraid to raise your hand.
I really enjoyed working with Ann for precalc. She made a point to learn everyone's name and is kind when you don't understand material. I thought her classes were easy to understand even though I'm not good at math but the quizzes and tests are weighed pretty heavily compared to the homework which was somewhat difficult.
Seen other people saying she grades more based on how you solve the problem than whether you solve it correctly, and I have to agree. Tough on grading, even when the class average is less than a 60%. Very little sympathy for extenuating circumstances. If you fall behind, you get left behind. Failed her class the first time because of that.
I haven't taken a class from Humes directly, but as an advisor for 1032 courses, she does a poor job. She speaks down to professors and students, is unwilling to consider feedback, and her grading criteria is arbitrary. How people rate her well is beyond me--maybe she treats her direct pupils better.
Not the worst but going to class is a must and she will randomly have these weird ocd attacks where she just gets like anxious and will make students move seats if they are sitting a way she doesn't like and other things like that it's very odd. But overall the class wasn't too bad just show up and do the work and you will do fine.
ann is not a very nice person. she is distantly related to me so I am allowed to say that. i would go to her office hours on a regular basis and she would always tell me I am beyond help. her quiz and exam averages were always around 60. she gets mad when questions are asked. two thumbs down from me:)
I haven't had her that long, not even an entire semester but I think she is a lot better than everyone is saying. Yes she has her quirks, and she's not always the nicest, but some of the best professors aren't. She's interesting and very funny, as long as you go to class, pay attention, and just do the work she asks of you, then you'll be okay.
Awesome at explaining the content. Maybe it's because math typically comes easily to me, but I never had a problem grasping the content of this course. Beware, though, she WILL be blunt with you if you don't put effort into the course and are lazy. Attend, do your work, study, ask for help when you need it (she will help you), and you'll be fine.
Idk why people hate on Anne. I learned so much about math in her class and I feel so much more confident in my math knowledge. She knows what she's doing, and she cares enough to make the class partially difficult. The classes are very heavy on exams, but that's not her doing that's the department.
She's a good professor. If you don't pay attention in class you're done for. Study and do the homework and you'll be fine.
pretty easy class if you pay attention half the time also she is pretty funny
I attended every class and did all the homework. I went to a few office hours to go over past exams or quizzes, and it felt more like her berating me than actually helping me. She mostly said that we went over the material in class, and I should have learned it by now. Well, guess what, I didn't, so not the biggest fan of her.
I really enjoyed Ann, she was funny but also a good teacher. If you go to every lecture you will be fine, the problems used in lectures are similar to the quizzes and exams. You need to show your work how she likes it, which took some getting used to, but it's not too bad.
