Must do a lot on your own. Helpful if you ask but doesn't go over all the material tested in detail.
Gives out toooooo much homework for 2.5hrs class session. You got to make a group of 5 to compelete the HW. I guess this class should be given twice a week.
Not understanding of student's personal needs. TOOOOO MUCH HOMEWORK. Dropped the class after the first midterm. Highly suggest to take another teacher!
She sometimes goes too fast over materials! She also jumbles all her notes all over the board.
never attended classes because her lectures are hard to follow. got Bs on midterms, but when the final came around, ace it for an overall grade of A for the class. just study off of the pre-tests and you'll do fine.
Not bad. I suppose it is very hard to follow in class. But if you study her pretests and tests she gives from last semester. You can do very well. The key is understanding the pre tests and youll do fine
She is a really nice teacher. She is always willing to help out her students. The class is hard though. You really have to understand the material. The practice tests and inclass problems are helpful... the homework is not.
Class has a lot of HW that takes hours to complete, but she's a good teacher who takes the time to make you understand, so ask questions when you get lost. Grading is cool, score highest on the final and that will be your semester garde.
not understanding at all....
um, if you can teach yourself then take the class, she gives a lot of hw but you dont really need to do it if you understand because at the end of the year if your final grade is higher then your class grade, thats the grade you get i didnt do any homework missed hella quizes and got a B, thanks fi
Goes fast, lots of homework (only grades 3 hmk problems) hard to follow, needs a pointy black hat to look like a witch.
Take notes. She is very clear in lecture. I did not do homework and passed. Get one sheet of notes for the exams. Quizzes are open book. She does not skip steps and follows problems through to the end.
she is really willing to help you understand. she goes over everything you need to know. if you go to class then you should take her
Got job done, tsts, quiz, and HW easy. I have a lot of math background so this may be why.PROS: 1 Sheet notes on each test. Explained thoroughly, wlng to help, nice.CONS: Amount of HW is a joke, graded, took me > 7hours a week to do, thinks all you have is her class. Swtches btn variables in exples=very cnfsing evn for me. ALWAYS stands in front of her boardwork!!!
Nice professor, I took her class when she taught here for her first semester (about 2-3 years ago). Tons of HW, tests are fair if you do the HW and understand them. Got an A in her class.
material is easy if you actually show up to class and take good notes. also lets you use a full page of notes front n back for all quizes and exams so that def helps. may be a bit weird but as long as u pay attention n show to class ur all good. make sure you do all the hw tho. its easy points. i must admit i did like her and would reccomend
Kalinowski is a great statistics professor. She explains concepts the easiest way for students to understand. She would clarify anything you dont' understand in a silver plater. No BUS90 course can get the same learning quality as Kalinowski. I highly recommend YOU to take her class and Enjoy!
She is not a very good teacher. She is very confusing and switches back and forth between ex. and problems. She stands in front of the board, and only lets you use a check book calculator on all quizzes and test. She was not helpful in her office hours or during class time. If stats is not your thing do not take this teacher.
I personally think using a check book calculator for doing statistic is some what... outdated. If you can do it on a graphing calculator... why not? Immagine you have to plug in 100 data(simply LOL). Sure, she teaches the class with all her heart. Taking her class wont get you any where on statistics.
She is an "ok" teacher. However, i really dont like the way she teaches the class. 1) her lecture in class are very unrelated to the stuff that the book talks about. (espically the assigned hwk vs lecture) 2) She sometimes goes into details on some minor things. 3) vis versa, she can go into details that we don't even need to know about.
She is a really good teacher!at times she can be unclear and unorganized but she is so helpful. i did not want to take her after reading her comments on here, but im glad i did. i learned the material well and it was because of her. i would recommend her to the worst students.
VERY EASY class. Grading NOT on a curve. Ample opportunity for EASY extra credit. Lowest quiz score dropped. Quizzes/exams/final nearly identical to previous terms' (which she makes available online). Overall improvement throughout term weighed heavily into final grade. Do HW and check past exams for an EASY grade. Good lecturer. Can't ask for more
Very hard class (coming from someone who has never been good @ math). Essential you go to class...I never missed ONE class and I had a tutor outside and I still struggled. Not good at explaining things. Unorganized. Always seems amounts of homework & she doesn't explain how to do the problems she assigns! Not good if you have trouble with math.
AVOID... She explains the problem poorly. Sometimes she even lost with what she is doing. You need to scan your homework to submit to her. what a dumb thing!
Easy Professor. Most people[I] failed the quizzes but Got A's on midterms. the midterms were like 99.9% identical to quizzes given in class. Professor was unorganized at times. Would recommend going to class everyday even though there was no point..... it just puts a good impression on the professor. EASY!
Pretty easy teacher. Whole HW system is a joke. Just complete it and you'll get credit. All quizzes and tests are multiple choice. You get a cheat sheet for basically everything. She's really boring though and if you understand the material you can probably just show up for quizzes/tests and get a good grade.
She is very passionate about teaching. Although her teaching style is not always straightforward, she will do her absolute best to help students outside of class. Quizzes are so basic! Just study what she tells you to. Her study guides were practically the same as the tests. Yes, you will actually have to study, but she is not as bad as people say!
Extremely unorganized. First time teaching 190 was a failure. Careless who you are. Quiz is simple. Teach style does not keep you interested, very boring. Angered really easy, takes it out on the students/class. Avoid this professor unless you want to teach yourself.
An underrated professor. Somewhat disorganized, but teaches the material well enough. Quizzes are very easy. Midterm is fairly easy; final is simple and non-cumulative. Allows one page of notes (both sides) for exams and quizzes. Practice exams are very similar to midterm/final. Come to class daily (and pay attention) and you'll get at least a B.
Terrible professor ever! Her class is extremely BORING!!! There will be lots of quizzes and exams. The quizzes will be helpful for your exams. The HW is totally irrelevant with exams. She gets angry very easy if she finds out someone is texting. After the whole semester, I still don't understand Statistics. Avoid her when you have the chance!!!
Positive; relatively easy if you suck up, and ask alot of questions. If you took BUS90 before, or pretty good at STATS, this is just a breeze. On the otherhand if you're horrible at STATS, avoid her, I regret taking her NEGATIVES; She's a horrible professor, she's my last professor I have to take to get my degree, and by far, by far she is the WORS
hard and easy teacher. hard because of the content. easy because of the HUGE HUGE amount of extra credit you can get. plus, her grading system works with you. Example:I had an overall C or B in the class, but got an A because I got an A on the final. psst, if you get a C- in the class, she'll probably bump it up to a C if you make a good impression
Took her winter class and found it easy considering how complicated the material can get. She is really organized, uses powerpoints, and is very helpful with questions. Quizzes prepare you for the tests, no curveballs. Brush up on your algebra and it's not too bad.
I had her for the first time she taught Bus 190. I don't know if she has gotten any better now, but it was horrible when I had her. She was extremely disorganized and made way too mistakes while teaching. It was hard to follow. Students were frustrated. Half the class failed the first midterm, after that less people started showing up to class.
Prof. Kalinowski is a great professor I've ever had at SJSU. She is very knowledgeable, kind; also very clear and organize when lectures. She gives lots of partial credits,so if you don't know how to solve the entire problem on exams, just write as much as you know you can get lots of credits-just don't leave it blank. Highly recommended!!!
She is a great prof., very clear and organized. Love her teaching and grading style - encourage and help students to learn. Take hers you'd learn a lot - not just math, but the abilities and courage to do more. Write down as much as you know on exams, you'll get lots of partial credits. She is a great prof. I've ever had - love her!
She is defenitely a nightmare. I took her 190 class and it supposed to be pretty easy, but she made the class much more complicate! She grade homework very strictly! Her quizea are quite easy but exams are very hard. She is willing to help student but her attitude is harsh and rude. I don't recommmand her unless you don't have other choice.
Notes are irrelevant to the online quizzes. She always goes over things that we don't need to learn. Weekly quizzes drag me down because she never covers important material that will be on the quizzes. Very unclear on material covered. I wish I could have read into her poor ratings more because i regret taking her class
Horrible teacher that is very unclear and provides irrelevant notes. She constantly has tangents during lectures of how hard statistics is. She gets very upset when students ask questions and refuses to answer them. Homework is unrelated to material covered in class and on quiz. Avoid this professor! She is very rude and hates students!
You guys are crazy, she as a super easy professor, although I do agree she is rude. All you have to do is go to class and pay attenetion and practice her practice exams because they are exactly the same as her real exams
Extremely boring professor. Make sure you actually look at the practice test because its the same thing but with different numbers. Quiz and hw everyweek. Felt like a high school class. Cheat sheet was allowed for quiz/test. 3 midterms at 10% each and final is worth 50%
Helpful professor. Not saying class is easy or she is an easy professor but she will definitely do her best to make sure you understand the material. Second time I took BUS 90 and she definitely does a better job than the other professor did to help me understand statistics. Definitely a GREAT Summer course teacher. made 4 hrs 5 wk course bearable!
Breaks everything down for you. You have to do the work, but it's nothing unnecessary. Everything she assigns helps you learn the material, and there's no sneak attack questions on the midterms.
She really cares about her students and puts in a lot of effort to help them understand the material and succeed in the course. Her grading is on the difficult side but getting an A is doable if you put in decent effort. Overall great professor and I would definitely take again.
just say no. so hard to pay attention in class as her lectures are more boring than watching paint dry. quiz every week and they are tricky even if you've reviewed the slides + one horrible group project. unorganized professor who grades strictly. do not take her for 138 you'll regret it.
I've had a lot of bad professors before, she is by far the worst. Don't take he
Whatever good things anyone says about this professor is lying, I guarantee you. Not helpful if you are not available for office hours(inconvenient times). Extremely rude, gives assignment without good instruction. VERY BORING lecturer. Her presence is unpleasant. She would rather say "you should know this" rather than actually help you.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Extremely rude, condescending, hypocritical, and completely unhelpful. She insulted me in front of the class while I was struggling, and refused to help me learn. Do NOT take any of her classes!!
straight up terrible professor. period. does not care about her students and sucks at teaching. you'll regret taking this class with her as your instructor.
terrible. avoid taking this class with her, even if you have to wait next semester for a different teacher or have to take it from other school. grade forgiveness is only once so don't screw yourself like I did by repeating it with her. she has no mercy about your degree or graduation
She is a horrible professor! Stay away! She expects you to have excellent algebra skills, and is very unorganized in her class. No one is able to follow her and it's hard to know what's going On. She is demeaning, and doesn't think it's her bad teaching that is the problem, but that it's because students don't know "high school algebra" .
Currently taking her for BUS190. She's not as bad as you think. Just know that you'll be doing problems that are related to algebra and statistics. There are quizzes every two weeks, 1 midterm&1 final, not cumulative. Partial credit. Buy the homework solutions off of Chegg. Form a group during the beginning of the semester and split the cost.
Currently taking this professor. Honestly the first few days of class I was scared for my life in regards to my grade. After taking some of the quizzes and midterm I can gratefully say that they weren't bad at all. Goes off on tangents at times and you have to teach yourself so you can be successful. I would recommend taking her class.
I just received my final grade, I honestly don't think shes that bad of a teacher. Sometimes she's not very clear on the material and that's where her office hours would help. She definitely cares about her students. As long as you go to class and do the previous midterms beforehand, you should have no problem getting an A in the course.
Took her business 90 class during the winter and she made me work for it. Didn't have much time to sleep during the 2 weeks of the class because of the deadlines but it kind of pushed me and didn't leave me time to procrastinate. I wouldn't recommend her winter class to someone who works full time but, overall I think she is a good professor.
Very easy going instructor. Gives note taking material that highlights what will be on the quizzes - tells you exactly what to study for quizzes. the hardest part of this course is probably the group project which i found fairly easy if you have a good group.
Her lectures are very clear and she goes over concepts that are confusing multiple times. You just need to pay attention in class and listen.
She is a super smart person but not such a great teacher, you pretty much have to teach yourself and do all the homework to actually understand whats going on.
She explains things very poorly and is clearly not suited to be a teacher. Huge online component for her class and tons of homework but super easy to get credit if you do it all.
I had her for both Bus 90 and Bus 190. She cares a lot for her students and is willing to re-explain complicated topics. Her practice tests are very similar to her actual tests and she allows you a cheat sheet. I highly recommend this class because it has a chill atmosphere. Just do her old tests and you'll ace her exams.
Currently taking her BUS190 class for Summer session and all I have to say is that she has probably given each student an entire ream of paper worth of handouts. God bless her
Taking her for the summer and I have to say that she is horrible. Her lectures are disorganized and confusing and she is very poor at explaining the materials. She is rude when you ask question. Btw, she loves to brag about her PHD and how smart she is. Take her if you are good at self-teaching. Otherwise, avoid.
Boring lectures. Talks too much if you ask her a simple question and will not let you go unless you just ignore her. Gave so many papers that were available to us online. She could have saved about a forest if she did not pass out so many papers. One final and One midterm which were worth 65% of your grade. One small mistake and its over. Good Luck
Overall a good professor. Definitely not an easy A class but work harder and you should get the grade you deserve. She gives partial credit as long as your work shows that you understand the material. Ask her if you have any questions she's willing to help students out. Try not to miss class otherwise you will fall behind.
Mrs. Kalinowski is a very knowledgeable and has a lot of passion for what she does. Took her over the winter for Bus 190 and enjoyed the class till the very last day. She is really helpful and cares about her students. I surely believe that her rating is low because the students themselves dont put any effort
Multiple students asked for Professor Kalinowski to go over material that they are confused about. Her response "it's not rocket science you guys". Goes off about how she's not gonna do it again and she expects us to do it on our own aka the learning objectives. Her objective as a professor should be to make sure students understand the material..
Try to avoid her classes at all costs. You will be stuck learning the material on your own because most of her lectures are useless. She likes to go off on tangents and never properly explains the material. Good luck asking questions or requesting ANY support, because in return you will only get a snarky response about what you're doing wrong.
Great professor! If you attend all her lectures and pay attention, it's not hard to get an A. QBA has a lot of steps and can be confusing, but professor K teaches the material clearly and at a decent pace, and she's always available to help at her office hours. She a caring professor and she WANTS her students to pass.
lectures are heavy and she really makes you lose your motivation for studying because she's just very negative and always talks about student failing and is a bit rude... I ask her for a paper that she gave to everyone and she said no to me and when I ask question she never gives a straight answer...
Ms. Kalinowski is a wonderful person. If you need help she is willing to help. You can't miss class because if you miss one class you will be far behind. The hw assignments are very long, but its best to make friends in the class to get help. She also helps with your HW if you don't understand. Follow her instructions and you will pass the class.
Prof Kalinowski is very knowledgeable of the subject, and her lectures and handouts are helpful. BUS190 is one of the hardest business classes, so much of the difficulty is in the material itself. It's up to the professor to help students understand. That said, when asking for help with the material, she can be condescending & snarky. Why teach?
Want to go to class where you'll lost your motivation really quickly? Ann is knowledgable about the subject but crams way too much on her students. Her handouts were the only thing keeping me afloat. Nice person, terrible teacher.
This professor expects a lot from students. If you have a full course load and are not great at math, do not take her. Lectures are rushed, unorganized, and hard to follow. She gets off topic and often calls out people for texting. She has many quirks that can be hard to get used to. That being said, she does give a lot of EC and is a fair grader.
Disorganized!
Sweet person, terrible teacher. Never finishes lecture on time & often goes overtime. Goes off topic often. Rants about students on their phones instead of lecturing so students who are actually trying to learn lose out on lecture time. For the final, she taught the material a week before & emailed the class two days before what to study. Avoid!!
ONE OF THE WORST PROFESSORS AT SJSU. If possible try and get a different professor. She is VERY unorganized and rude to students who ask simple questions. Be prepared to spend many hours doing homework and weekly online webcam quizzes. Find a good group to form or find a tutor you'll need it. No book required, extra credit, 1 midterm, 1 final.
Can snap out at you at times, keep in mind she has a lot of grading to deal with. I was nervous to take her but she really wants to help students, grades fair and wants you to do well. She can be rude at times but overall I did not have a bad experience. Put in some effort and pay attention in class and you will get the grade you deserve.
DOES NOT REQUIRE CALCULUS AS A PRE-REQ. You will still need an add code from her, but she's the only professor who doesn't use Calculus. She will want to see a solid 90-Stats grade. Don't skip class, PAY ATTENTION, and have her tutors go over your homework. Her homework takes 1.5hrs to complete. Her quizzes and tests are easier than the HW.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Consists of unannounced online quizzes, 3 midterms, 1 final, and a group project. 1 day of lecture, 1 day of stats. Will call you out for not paying attention. Tests are hard, especially the stats portions. Keeps you passed class time. If you want someone that gets mad at you for not understanding, take her.
By far the worst professor I have ever taken in my whole entire college career. She is very disorganized. She tends to say things and not really follow with it. For example, quizzes are posted unannounced and sometimes announced. Class averages on exams are generally around a D. In addition, she takes forever to grade on homework. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She disparages students for not understanding material. If you ask for help or for her to explain something more in depth she will often lecture on how bad modern students are. If you fall behind even a bit good luck catching up because she will chastise you for it and then not answer your questions. It seems it might be time for her to retire.
This is the worst professor in the entire school. She retired a decade ago and just doesn't know it yet. She is a shining example of the failure of our school system and how it allows incompetent teachers to stay on long past when they stopped being effective. What a joke and a complete waste of my tuition money. I am teaching myself this course.
My senior year and Kalinowski is by far my favorite professor. She's well-prepared and very knowledgable. If you pay attention in class, take good notes, you'll do well and learn a lot. She wants all her students to succeed so go to office hours and ask questions! She makes up her own HW problems and they're all applicable to real life problems!
Tedious homework every week, weekly quizzes with lockdown browser that have to be taken on Fridays. The midterm isn't hard, she posts really detailed study guides and basically everything is done in class. Definitely easier professors to take this class with, but Ann will give you a lot more in depth and relevant knowledge. Lots of handouts.
She is by far the worst professor I have had in schooling since Kindergarten. She will blow up over the smallest things, she has the most confusing lectures ever, and words test/quiz questions confusingly. Don't ever take her if you like your life or your self respect.
BUS190 is not an easy class. That being said, Prof. Kalinowski makes the material easier to follow. There is a lot of math involved so be forewarned, but the homework does help to study and review for the exams, which are worth the biggest chunks of your grade.
I only took her because she was literally the only class that wasn't waitlisted (Thanks SJSU!). What a mistake I made. Awful at explaining concepts, doesn't grade anything on time, and sometimes (not to me personally) just plain rude to students. Can't even use the restroom during an exam, no matter what. Never should've taken her. AVOID HER.
Honestly not that hard of a class!! I was scared going into it bc of all the reviews I had read but if you just show up to class and take notes + do the homework and weekly quizzes you will be fine. like any other class you have to do your part of the work or else you cant expect an easy a.
Professor Kalinowski is a great professor. I thought she was fair and I learned a lot taking her class. Do the HW, take the quizzes on time and you'll be fine. She posts previous exams to study, which are 60-70% similar to the one you'll take. Not all professors do this. She holds office hours after class, and tutoring is available at JHSSC.
Professor Kalinowski is a great teacher. There is hw every week but its there so when the tests come around you are truly ready. Give your all with the hw and make sure to do the online quizzes. Shes very willing to help at her office hours. I highly recommend going at least a couple times. Material isnt very hard, just pay attention
The worst experience I've ever had in school in my life. I knew her for a total of 48 hours and ran for the hills. I'm an honor student and I couldn't drop her fast enough. I'm shocked she hasn't been fired yet. An absolute nightmare of an experience.
I have never written one of these before but I felt this was necessary. When I say do not take this professor, I mean DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Some people said that she was good and those people have to be out of their minds. The lectures are very easy but the hw is NOT. Lock down browser with webcam for quizzes and they're confusing af
This is easily one of the worst classes I've ever had. The lectures are boring, teacher rambles off topic. The homework is online and the system is a horrible interface. Grade is up to a few tests. Every day she sends out 2-3 passive aggressive emails. COVID-19 semester. Half in person, half online. Professor did not even curve while others did.
This is a hard class overall and if you're not going to put in the work you're not going to pass. If you ask for clarification she will help you. The most useful part is that she has her lectures online so you can reference on your own. She Grades slow so don't expect to have an A when u haven't turned anything in and she hasn't updated ur grades
Excellent professor. I see a lot of people complaining about her being "too hard" or giving "hard tests" and not helping students out. I have her in the Covid semester and she has bent over backwards to help all of her students out. She literally has said "if you need help, call me at any time-I'm not doing anything". If you try you'll do well.
She's good at explaining the material. The HW is usually straight forward. Weekly quizzes but you can use your notes. I took pictures of the powerpoint before taking the quizzes which helped. Got 15/15 on majority. The exams are worth majority of your grade. Bu the questions/answers can be found in her previous finals. VERY off-topic during lecture
Please please please please do yourself a favor and avoid taking her 190 class. Super disorganized with files on Canvas, took forever to find the right files. She is good at explaining concepts, but with us having to study online this semester, the Canvas module has become a nightmare!
Great professor, but if you don't do the work, don't expect to get a good grade. There's weekly homework that you can knock that out in a couple of hours AND it helps out with quizzes (open notes). As long as you keep on the hw and quizzes, you'll do well!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DO NOT TAKE HER FOR BUS 190, MOST DIFFICULT CLASS TO LEARN, ESPECIALLY ONLINE. TRANSITION FROM LECTURE TO ZOOM WAS THE WORST AND WAS NOT ORGANIZED ON CANVAS AT ALL. IN CLASS LECTURES ALL OVER THE PLACE AND EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW HOW TOD DO EVERYTHING RIGHT OFF THE BAT
Folks, this professor is extremely underrated. Going into BUS 190 I was a bit nervous, but Ann truly is wonderful at what she does. She is incredibly organized, has videos you can reference too, and goes above and beyond to help out her students. Very accessible. One of the best professors I've had at SJSU.
Took her for Business Statistics. She is strict but she really cares about students. As long as you communicate and ask for help, she will do anything to help you. You are allow a two sided paper cheat cheat for each exam. 3 exams and 1 final. In my case, there were only 2 exams because of COVID-19. Homework and quizzes weekly. Some extra credit
Highly recommend this professor! Weekly quizzes and homework, but she drops the lowest two. Offers flexible office hours, extra credit, and problem solving sessions that allow students to practice lecture material. No textbook needed. She really goes out of her way to ensure her students succeed and offers plenty of opportunity to better your grade
Kalinowski is so super underrated. Take her course!! Beware of weekly homework and quizzes, but if you pay attention and participate, it should all be fairly easy. She made intimidating topics like linear programming and decision trees easy to tackle. Offers lots of extra credit and has plenty of office hour sessions. She makes it easy to do well!
The professor was really helpful. She will review all the materials before every test. The test is not that difficult if you try to review old tests which she posted on Canvas. You need to do lot of homework, but they are helpful. She also gives extra credit assignments. Last but not least, the lectures are clear and easy to understand.
Oh my, In her class right now and for the 4th week in a row; 20 minutes of rambling to start lecture, only for her to go over old content she didn't explain well last class. She makes the already hard class, harder than it is, this is the final boss professor, save yourself and pick someone else. I could go on...
Her lectures are easy to understand. Gives a lot of homework though. Tests arent difficult at all as long as you do all the homework and quizzes.
So far she has been the worst "professor" that I have taken yet. She tries to teach, but all she does is overcomplicate things making it super hard to understand what she's trying to teach. Quiz every week, homework every week; hard to understand since her questions are terribly written. All over the place and not tech-savvy at all.
She might be okay for in-person lectures but her online lectures are atrocious. Doesn't go by a textbook and goes over 1 example in class before assigning 10 different problems for homework. Expect to spend at least 4 hours on homework. Stay away from her if you want to pass this class.
She side tracks alot, but its all good. Her tests are similar to quizzes and and she doesn't twist questions like some of the other professor. All the materials are online. Show up and do the work, should be an EZ A. She offers lots of extra credits 1% added to your overall grade. Regular office hours and she is very caring. A++
I took her for an online class which I regret. Learned absolutely nothing out of it, except how to barely get by on the assignments. Her lectures are boring and out dated, often making it more complicated than the work already is. I suggest taking another professor and only looking to take her as a last resort.
Not a good lecturer by any means so if you struggle with the course content be ready to teach yourself or get help outside class. Lots of hard homework assignments weekly that are all graded so they are basically take-home quizzes. The final grade weight may change after you take it, in our case, it went from 30 -> 45% of our total grade.
skip class or not you probably won't pass either way. Be prepared to have interrupted zoom sessions because her bandwidth is dog water, but continuously blames it on zoom. Oh yeah, be cautious when being her IT and or giving her advice because she will chew you out and threaten to drop you if you don't say the things she wants to hear. Cheers!
Professor Kalinowski is an awesome math teacher. She truly cares if you pass. The way she structures her class and tests make it easy to pick up the info. She always has office hours to help and is glad to help. Her teachings have helped me in my next math class.
Do not take this class. So hard to follow along with her long rambling lectures. If I hear one more time about what she's not teaching us, what she taught before zoom sessions, or about the textbook that we are not using... ugh. Prof seems nice enough but its sooooo difficult to learn from her. Such a waste of time and money.
She talks too much. Will make you completely lost. Makes easy topics difficult without even noticing that its supposed to be an easy topic. Seriously, a lot of this stuff was learned in third grade but you wont recognize it because she talks so much.
Horrendous professor. Gets sidetracked way too much during lectures. illegible handwriting. One last thing doesn't post on canvas if we have homework due at all. Goodluck!
Just don't.
You better wait until the last minute to do homework. she will CHANGE THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT AFTER SHE ASSIGNS IT! YES, she will change the questions on the file. this is a normal occurrence, then she will get mad at you for "not caring". I spent five hours on an assignment the day she assigned it, and she CHANGED ALL THE QUESTIONS. Down the drain
The semester started out rough due to technical difficulties involving her internet connection. Once that was under control the class was not as difficult as I thought it would be. She explains things well. 1 weekly homework assignment 1 weekly quiz, 1 midterm, 1 final + plus extra credit opportunities. Only tests on material covered in class
Honestly, she isnt the worst professor. She is tough and goes off topic but she tries to make sure that you understand the material. She constantly offers office hours and will stay with you till you understand it. Gotta be patient but she isnt the hardest Ive had. Everyone made it seem like it would be terrible but it was probably like a 7/10
I think she's a good professor who cares about students actually learning the material. She gives weekly HWs & posts the solution the next day to help prepare for the quiz. She drops the lowest 3 HWs & 2 quizzes & offers tons of extra credit. I see people complaining about her cats/internet but she'll be teaching in-person again so you'll be ok.
Terrible. Does not care about her students at all. Very inconsiderate and rude I urge all of you not to take her class even if you need to. She is very passionate about stats but cannot teach the subject. Asked her for an alternative test date because it was conflicting with another test and my registration date and she said no. No remorse.
She was tough though fair. If you don't understand something use her office hours. She takes the time to explain it to you if you are there asking the questions. The semester was online and internet issues were a pain though seeing her cat pop in to class occasionally was a great mood lightener.
The Professor can be stubborn and ignorant of people's situations at times, but she 100% wants you to learn and will settle for nothing less than applying yourself. However, Covid makes this horrible. bad internet, and HIGHLY unorganized. But, if you can pass these issues 100% take her, I learned a lot and enjoyed the material. Get ready to learn!
DON' T TAKE!! She uses NO textbook and wants math done her way or you get a zero. Very hard to learn from goes on long tangents and doesn't get to the point. You have to attend her office hours every week to just understand how to do the homework. Turnsback homework extremely slow and doesnt grade everythin. Homework every week, midterm, and final.
CAT LADY ALERT ....*Chicken Scratch Writing* and big ramble. Usually wastes a good 30 mins. of class each time, gets mad when students dare to interrupt by asking questions (unless it's on cats). You get homework & test every week. H.W takes minimum 1 - 1.5 hours. The videos of a guy explaining stuff she has on Canvas are the only thing helpful.
Ann is NOT EASY, but she is a good professor! She makes sure that we understand the material. She has multiple office hours available! She is sweet, even tho some people complain about her cats and rumbling, honestly, it does not happen often or for too long. I've taken some higher math classes and believe me Ann is a charm compared to others.
Seems intimidating at first, and remains some what unapproachable throughout the year... BUT her class is super straight-forward and relatively easy to learn in. One homework assignment a week, one quiz a week. Homework is almost EXACTLY like the lectures in class. She drops 3 lowest scores for hw and 2 lowest scores for quizzes. I highly recommend
Terrible teacher, wants math done her way and will not allow students to try and get outside help. Completely paranoid about chegg and homework help sites. Records lectures but does not post them. Can't find help anywhere outside of class.
She does everything for her students' success. She records lectures and posts them to rewatch later. I don't understand how one can be in her class and is not able to find the recordings on canvas. She has five office hours a week!FIVE!You rewatch the lectures, do exactly what she says and ask questions during the office hour. Just do the work.
Almost finals week & she hasn't graded A LOT of the homework done this semester. Math has to be done her way even tho there are other possibly easier ways to do it. H.W & tests every week. Please read the bad reviews because they're ACCURATE. I'm almost sure she comes on her and rates herself instead of changing her ways to actually help students!
If you need this as your last class Before Graduation .. SKIP THE SEMESTER! There is no way someone would take this class again. Crazy cat lady with way too much homework that doesnt help on quizzes. Never grades work test and quizzes were always screwed up. BUYER BEWARE
I have always given positive reviews but this professor is by far the worse professor I have ever had in my college career and I am a senior. She is all over the place, not consistent, constantly talks over students goes off on tangents, and often makes mistakes with her HW/Quiz/Exam postings so if you don't stay on top of her you will miss points
Ok person from what I can tell but should not be teaching. She is scattered brained and not organized. We pay for this class yet she will complain to us about how she has to put exams together and homeworks . Im sorry isnt that your job?!?!? We pay so much money and this class was worthless. Used tutors the whole time. Dont do it! Money wasted!
Very poorly structured lectures, sloppy handwriting, gets sidetracked easily & complains a lot. She has prerecorded lectures that u can watch to self-study. Weekly 15Q quizzes, & long hws. The final is worth 45% of ur grade, but she does give ec that can give up to a 5% boost. This class is not an easy A, but if you put in the effort it is doable.
Weekly quizzes and homework assignments. Cover different subjects almost every week. The material given wasn't that hard but the method in which it was taught and tested made it harder than it needed to be. Professor Kalinowksi tries her best to teach but be prepared to spend a lot of time rewatching lectures and maybe youtube to understandmaterial
This professor was one of the worst I have ever taken at San Jose State. Her lectures are awful, she does not know how to use technology at all, let alone make a test that does not have issues with it. Her lectures also do not make any sense whatsoever, and she repeatedly makes sure that you use her methods or else you wont get any points. So Awful
I only took her because she was the only professor left when I was enrolling. She's very specific about the way she teaches and only allows her method of solving problems. If you don't do it her way, you will lose points. She's extremely late on grading so you won't really know where your grade stands.
Be ready to work for your grade! tho she is generous in grading, not like other higher math professors I've had. Take her if you are good at math and if your stats class was somewhat easy for you, she is a solid choice. If you don't like math and looking for an easy A, DO NOT take her. Save yourself from trouble. The other ratings reflect that :))
I took her 190 class in FW'21 & I'm a business major & I've taken calculus and this class made literally no sense. She barely teaches and when she does it makes 0 sense and goes on weird paranoid tangents. I had to essentially teach myself EVERYTHING. Lectures did NOT match the HW. The only good thing about her class was seeing her cat bob. BEWARE
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER! I'm very proficient in math and let me tell you. She is very scattered! She goes off on random tangents and gets sidetracked VERY EASILY. She will also give you homework while barely lecturing. Then the homework will make ZERO sense. Please take someone else. This is possibly the worst professor to teach bus stat.
I would rather be taught by her cat Bob than take her ever again. She has no clue what she is saying or doing and is more lost than the students. Will fail you if you don't do math using her method, which is the most confusing and backwards way ever. Highly recommend you don't take her
Ann teaches like she is in her first year of teaching. She loves to talk about things with literally no relevance to the subject matter and will easily spend 20 min on the unrelated subject. She also does not provide anywhere near enough information in class or on Canvas to do her homework without being forced to go to every office hour. Dont do it
Idk why so many bad reviews. I found the class to be not that bad. More stats related stuff. We used excel for the first half of class and we did probability the next half. A lot of hw but its graded on the easy questions cause she's only 1 person. Make a class group chat to help each other on hw. Cheat sheets are allowed on everything.
RUN RUN RUN DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!! Professor Kalinowski is the rudest professor I've ever had @ SJ. She has zero patience for anyone, gets easily frustrated when you don't understand the material, and constantly goes on random tangents. Her lectures are pointless since everyone ends up reteaching themselves for every assignment, quiz, or test.
Her class outline was way too demanding. No graphing calcs can be used in tests, only a simple one. It says no-cost for the class, but you have to buy an online class to participate. Test heavy class, lots of pressure on the first day. Take the class elsewhere, preferably at a CC.
Professor Ann is very nice person and teacher. HW and Quiz are similar questions, using MyStatLab. Total 3 Midterms and 1 Finals with one cheat sheet for each exams. She provides Reviews Questions with answers for all the exams which are similar to exams too!!! So this class will be an EASY A if u just go to class take notes and do hws!!!
HW every week with quizzes being every other week. 1 midterm and a final being 35% and 45% of your grade respectively. Though allows 1 page cheat sheet for quizzes/test, however, lots of tough questions so you actually need to know the material, can't really cheese it. Canvas page is very unorganized, and she is very paranoid of student's cheating.
just started first day of spring with her and holy moly..... this lady is something else. I only took her bc she was the only professor open. BIG MISTAKE. she got all these rules and sooooo much hw. I hope I pass lol. RUNNNNNNNN
DON'T DO IT! In BUS90, 55% got a C- or less on the first midterm. In her other section of BUS90, it was 70% that got C- or less. She was shocked that 70% failed the midterm, and said people are unmotivated and don't put in effort anymore. Lectures are useless, not enough clear examples. You'll end up teaching yourself the material.
not sure y ppl are being so rude about her. she is the sweetest professor, she is on the older side so I understand when ppl say she rambles but tbh u only need to show up to class to receive participation points. she posts all her old midterms that are almost the same exact one ull recieve so if u look over those, which she tells u 2 ull pass
Her grading is very disorganized and confusing she will assign hw and only grade 1 of the questions and not all of them. Everything is assigned on paper she doesn't let us submit stuff on canvas and she won't accept any late hw. Her canvas is messy nothing is organized, she never replies back to her students. Don't ever take her anyone is better.
An A in the course isn't challenging, but I will leave this class having experienced heaps of unwarranted stress due to disorganization and lack of logical reasoning when it comes to grading assignments. This professor does not adapt with a changing academic environment; she persists with older methods that she, herself, cannot be thorough with.
She is clearly very proficient in the topic, but she just really struggled to connect with the students and seemed to always be annoyed. It isn't the worst class, she knows what she's talking about and it's structured pretty simply, but it definitely wasn't my favorite.
she is very proficient at what she does, but it just wasn't my favorite. she always seemed annoyed at students and lectures were incredibly boring. lots of hw questions, usually about thirty problems or more, and one quiz every week. 3 midterms and 1 final exam. she does upload past midterm/final solutions to help you study for them.
Worst I've ever had. This class caused me so much unnecessary stress. Doesn't explain things well. Acts like we already know the material, and is annoyed when we don't understand. Ended up teaching myself. She blames the students for the the class average being so low and doesn't question herself.
I took this class over summer. The material isn't that difficult to grasp, it can just feel difficult relearning it the way she wants you to. She gives a ton of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade up, not difficult to pass but not an easy A either. She really is nice but just doesn't tolerate excuses. Be an active participant, it helps
First, she is an inspiring professor with a rich academic and industry background. Second, her teaching style makes complex concepts accessible and captivating. Third, her feedback on HW helps us understand and improve. Lastly, her integration of real-life experiences into lessons enriches learning and prepares us for professional challenges.
This class is pretty tough, but she offers many extra credit opportunities. The midterms and final account for 75% of the course. She responds to her emails decently fast and is accessible. Some people get good grades on the midterms, but generally, the class average is low, and she doesn't curve exams. Have to participate in class to earn points.
This class will be extremely stressful, lectures do not match up with the quizzes and exams. I was showing up to class and scoring 100% on the homework and failed both midterms. Passed the last final with an A- and did all the extra credit and managed to get a B-. If you take her be warned, this class will become your personal hell and you may fail
If you want to add more stress to your life by all means take this class. I came into this class having prior knowledge of her ratings and thought students was just lazy but got humbled real quick. Suggest you reconsider and run while you still can. If you take this class then I guarantee you it will be your least favorite class. RRUUUUNNNNNNNNN
Very easy class considering it is a math course and all quizzes and exams are MULTIPLE CHOICE. She honestly cares a lot about the students and is very understanding.
I was so worried about taking her class after checking the RMP, but she was not bad at all. Just don't skip the class, take notes seriously, and go over old exams before the midterms and finals. If you follow her instructions, you will definitely pass this class. Plus, go to office hours if you are struggling!
You need to participate 15 times a semester for a percentage of your grade. She teachs poorly just reads and is very boring and doesn't take to time to go in depth always emphasizes we don't have enough time to learn the material. Assigns are ridiculous amount of homework problems which many are repetitive. Will be using Pearson to do your hw.
Get ready to spend hours on homework that will drive you crazy. Gives MCQ on MyStats lab weekly that consists of part A, B, C, etc. Reads off slides in a hurry in class cause "we have too much material to cover".
always these boomer profs who can't teach. would compare her to Todd Robinson same teaching style: lecture all over the place, no late work, yap, majority fail, expects too much. U teach yourself/ask the discord then tell your low scores on the amount of quizzes u have in this class. No chegging hw if you're that lost in class or she'll report u
5-6 hours of hmwk a week, 30-40 problems with 5 parts for each problem, lectures are all over the place so just teach yourself and it's $180 for the homework. The homework does not help at all and does not provide any resources to learn or see an example if your stuck.
I was worried about this class but she gives you so many resources to do well. You get to see examples of old midterms, finals, and she gives lots of extra credit. As long as you try, you should do well. took the condensed version of the class and everyone passed the class. She will have lots of funny stories about her cats lol
Long homework that doesn't have much to do with what's on the test. That said, the practice midterms she give are basically the same as the actual midterms, so just do those beforehand and you'll be fine.
If you are taking her course, go to her classes and take good notes. She has her flaws, like side-tracking conversations, and could be a bit unprofessional at times. Review practice exams for midterms and finals and you'll be okay. Honestly I skipped classes a lot, so if your on top of your game, the class shouldn't be too bad.
Professor Kalinowski definitely has many experience in her teachings, but I did not like it at all. There is HW every week, mostly papers to turn in class and some that use Excel. Tests and quizzes are multiple choice with a full paper cheat sheet, but they are still DIFFICULT. I felt dreaded every time coming into her class.
By showing up you'll be rewarded with midterm help that you won't be able to get from the textbook. She has great online resources such as old midterms which are extremely helpful. With poor attendance, I scraped an A together using the online resources. It isn't easy but you'll be fine if you come to class regularly. She's old school but kind.
I would say this professor is the most accommodating professor. The subject itself is difficult however she made it easier to understand.
This professor was one of the hardest classes I have taken so far at SJSU. But it doesn't go without saying that if you put the effort in the class you can walk away with the grade you desire talk to her do the HW and study up for her old exams and you will be fine.
190 is a hard class but if you put in effort, you will def pass this class. Prof might not be the most approachable but she gives lots of ec and old exams to study for (which are basically the same as the actual exams, just diff numbers). This class is def not an easy A but if you take good notes and attend class, you will be fine
Do not take.
Goofy asl professor
Avoid her at all costs. She literally lost my HW one time and didn't take responsibility.
errors everywhere, all the time. Errors during lecture, on HW solutions, even on exams. On top of that, the class was extremely disorganized. Like bruh
This is fasho the goofiest class I ever taken in my whole life.
She has lots of office hours, which is great because you will need it. Doesn't explain things well, lose students' work all the time, still refuse to get a cart to carry the papers for some reason. I'm a straight A student but it looks like I'm getting a B first time ever in this class. If you have to take her, band together with other students.
The class is basically self taught, she goes off topic all the time. If you do the homework and study guides, you should be fine. She is however a Karen, like if you smirk or take a picture of the board because you can't see, she will be like WHY YOU TAKING PICTURE?!! and get heated. She will stare into your soul in class.
This lady reads the rmp reviews apparently. She gets really heated about the reviews and tries to make comebacks for it but it really shows that the reviews are true. She has no chill at all, we all just study by ourselves because we come out of the class more confused. Like if we wanted to we would, she needs to take it less personally.
BUS2-190 is a challenging course, but using resources like unstuck study alongside regular class attendance can help you manage the workload. The professor may not be the most approachable, but provides helpful old exams to prepare. With effort, you can succeed in this class.
truly the worst professor I've had my entire college career. she does show you previous exams as a study guide which is useful.
I literally studied for both midterms, using her own old midterms, and failed BOTH OF THEM. There is NO excuse why her midterms are exceptionally hard. PLEASE take another professor for this course. I am very worried I will fail this class and need to take another semester to graduate.
You really need to attend the class regularly to score good. But honestly if you understand the steps then it is not that difficult of the class. She just needs a little dedication towards the course, have alot of homework and needs alot of work to be done with daily quizzes. A little rigid but a nice professor.
I've seen many reviews paint a false picture of Professor Kalinowski. If you're respectful during class time and show up most of the time, you'll be fine. She provides old tests nearly identical to the ones you'll be taking. If you are still immature I would recommend avoiding this class. If you have basic manners you'll be good.
Don't take her. Literally take anyone else, go to a community college to take it if you have to. Just DON'T take her. She's one of those teacher's that thinks her class is the most important thing in the world and only wants you to do things "the old fashioned way." She was thought by the students of a famous dude and that went straight to her head
If you enjoy having 5 midterms one of them being 3 days before the final then take this class. These type of professors love to see you fail and will make your life miserable stay away.
I rather drop out then take this professor again.
Just take this class at a community college if you have to take this professor. Drop the class, enroll online at a community college, the community college course costs less than this classes textbook and the professors actually care about you.
Pros: nice lady, keeps it real Cons: She is the Sleepy Joe of college professors. Very unorganized, gets her work wrong all the time, never seen a professor make so many mistakes in their work. Not a good teacher, you'll have to teach yourself a lot. She makes a hard class even harder. Taking this during the winter will test your will to live.
Honestly it's kind of bizarre reading all these negative reviews. The vast majority of people in my class received an A or B. The class is very straightforward and I think that most of these reviews are from people who either didn't put any effort into the class or just didn't show up consistently. The professor is kind and entertaining as well.
I would sooner enlist in the military and endure boot camp than subject myself to this class again.
Currently taking this class. (5th week of). Very unorganized, class pacing is slow, and usually slides off of teaching to critique students that use their phones and how it was 'better' in the old days. I recommend taking a different professor, but if you can't, don't worry. The content of the class isn't too hard. If you just pay attention tho
shes not bad. You have to put in the effort and she provides a lot of resources on Canvas. I've seen that those who complain don't pay attention in class or don't show up. People only come in to complete the hw and then leave during lecture or show up near the end of class for the quizzes. Just be a decent student, pay attention, and you'll pass.
one of the best professors I've ever had. I get why she wants the hw done her way but she's doing it for our benefit because her way is the easiest way. I was scared going into this class but she's a great prof and always wants to help if we don't understand. If you failed, it's on you because she told us exactly what would be in the exam.
This professor is VERY old fashioned. Paper/printed hw, scantrons and hardly anything online. The canvas module system is also messy and she frequently made mistakes on answer sheets. She does heavily imply whats going to be on the tests and DOES provide a cheat sheet, though. You can tell she is just tired from teaching for so long.
A stray dog has more integrity and manners than this professor. At least a dog knows when to stay silent instead of spewing passive aggression under the guise of professionalism. The class is a power trip, not a learning environment. If you want respect, structure, or even basic human decency—look elsewhere.
She deducted 35% off my test grade because my Scantron was crinkled (She crinkled it)
