she is very nice, but she doesnt grade easy, however, you get to revise your paper!!
she is very friendly & funny. she doesnt grade easy on papers though, but she is always willing to help.
She is very nice. She will help you any way possible and make you feel like you can do anything. All you have to do is follow directions. I would take her over anytime.
she's funny.
Ann is really koo. She really cares about the student and really want everyone to pass w/o shell tell you if you are doin bad in her class to drop it so it dosnt look bad on you transcrips. but the only reason you would do bad is if you wait untill the last day to write an essay. and she can tell
She the best english teacher in Sac City. Ann care for her students and doesn't teacher for the paid but teacher her class from her heart. She easy because she will work with her students to get better in writing. Everyone have to take her to understand english class.
Ann is the best english teacher in Sac City hands down. She cares about her students and understands how most of us have stressful. She allows you to revise your essays and gives good writing assignments. Without her it would been a lot tougher for me to pass english; very helpful to all students
Ann is the best teacher for english, i highly recommend taking any of her classes. She is nice, and does conferences, very one on one with the students. If you take her classes, its an easy pass, just come to class. She is semi-strict with attendance
she is a very nice teacher. she makes mid-term and final become fun project instead of boring tests. and, it's easy to get full credits in those projects. students have fun discussions in class.
Ann is a great lady but her lit class was a bit disappointing. Discussions about the literature constantly devolved into a round table of irrelevant personal anecdotes. I really didn't get anything out of this class that I couldn't have gotten from reading the literature on my own. Ann is a very easy grader, though--you can't get less than a B.
a class by women for women about women, discussed endlessly by women. you will discover that almost everything that has been written was really about women in one form or another even when they go unmentioned. Attendance is key, lest you miss out on the discussion of women. woman thy name is loquacity.
She does care for her students--this is true. However, she has a horiible tendency to branch off on tangents possessing absolutely no correlation to the literature. Irritating as hell. I like to discuss and debate the literarure... not talk about Wal-mart. I could have learned everything offered in the class on my own time. Easy class, though.
One of the best professors I have EVER had!!! Very nice lady!!!
ANN LEWIS' TECHNIQUES OF TEACHING MADE LEARNING COMPLEX ASPECTS OF ENGLISH WRITING EASIER TO UNDERSTAND.
Great teacher. Always has been very helpful. She keeps me interested in the class, and is challenging my ways with her reading topics.
I'm surprised by others' comments on this class. They must be the disgruntled students who didn't get A's and who tried to impress the teacher (and the rest of us) with their "vocabulary." A great survey class that offered a diversity in writers and was taught by a knowledgeable, caring, and "fun" professor. Should be more profs like Ann Lewis.
Well, I don't think she's really preparing English majors very well, but she is a fun teacher. Only, if you are an English major, be prepared to read and write much more in the future.
I have taken her class in Spring of 2005. She is a very effective teacher who makes her class fun to be in. She's very helpful and she makes time for her students. It was a pleasure to be in her class.
She is nice and fun, but fails to challenge the students, and often strays off on tangents that are completely uncorrected to the subject matter. I could have learned everything that i did just by reading on my free time. A horrifically easy A. I would not recommend this class to anyone wishing to enrich their knowledge of early British literature.
She is a extremely nice teacher...very helpful and understanding...Highly recommended...but her essays are hard because she grades them very critically...but she will help you proof read and help you get a good grade as long as you make an effort...overall awesome teacher but hard essay but any other english 302 class should have hard essays also
I took her online class. The online lessons are pretty easy but she grades hard on the essays. She sometimes give extensions but don't count on it.
If you're good at writing already - you got nothing to worry about, but if you're still learning - watch out! You'll get a lot of criticism, but hardly any help. She'll refer you to everyone else, but won't do anything herself. If you want to learn how to write - find someone else, but if you just want a grade, a harsh one - she's your gal!
She is a extremely nice lady, but HARD GRADER.
SHE IS VERY CALM AND KNOWLEDGEABLE
I took her online class and her lessons are very easy. Pay ATTENTION to essay prompts and don't go off topic! Grades very harsh when it comes to essays but this should not shock anyone seeing as how this is COLLEGE! If you take the time to see her during office hours she is wonderful and very helpful :) Take her class in person, not online!
I took his class online - not knowing what to expect and this professor provided good organization and structure. I love the fact that we can revise an essay and the comments on my essay helped me improve my writing. A "hard grader" as others have put? Perhaps, but I want to do well in college and so I want someone who sets college standards.
Professor Lewis is greatly informed of the subject and can even recite old english. There is one midterm, one final, an essay, and weekly quizzes; but all are fair. She's a great instructor.
Very unhelpful, if you intend to learn something do not take this class with her.
Don't take if you are looking for an easy grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE IN SUMMER UNLESS YOU ARE INSANE. Cramming 18 weeks of work into 6 weeks = major stress especially if you have a full time job. Teacher is ok/helpful but kind of snippy(her word). Lost my 4.0 average with this class...Take Eng100 first!

I took Honors Comp with Ann, and she was great. She's dedicated to her students' success-- just expect to put in what you want to get out of the class. I didn't find it difficult at all for an composition class, especially with Ann's help. I highly recommend her!
Boy this one is lazy and has some sort of ego thing. Stands in front of the class talking about herself and how special she is for being hired out of 400 applicants. zzzzz. Then she sticks you in groups and kicks back not teaching. She has these weird little dominions that love her. Couldn't wait to get away from her and the creepy dominions.
In high school, I NEVER got any help with my writing and my teachers told me I couldn't write. They just wanted me to folow a formula. Ann Lewis helped me throughout the semester and now I believe in myself AND I'm able to write good essays. GREAT.
Great teacher. Really know her subject and is always willing to give extra help. I imagine that all the other negative comments were from students who did not want to actually work.
ann lewis is such a sweet proffesor. if you'll take her, please try not to be LATE - attendance and turning in your essays.
She's a nice person, lenient grader. Random, in class quizzes help boost grades, but attendance is mandatory, since it's part of your grade.
She is the most understanding and caring English female professor I've had yet. I took her online course and it was pretty challenging, especially when you're taking a 5 unit math class concurrently over the summer. The final term paper was so stressful I was on the edge of losing my sanity, but Professor Ann saw that and accommodated for me. A+!
Ann Lewis is one of the best professors at Sacramento City College. She does not challenge her classes as a whole, but rather expects each student to improve their skills within the context of their learning style. She helps you move at a comfortable, reasonable pace, to become a better writer and is not afraid to push you. She's amazing.
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She expects you to do your work. But overall a great teacher. You sould take her
I loved this teacher! She is by far the best English teacher I have ever had. She is so kind, and really loves the material. I strongly suggest taking any of her classes. She makes you think so be ready!
Ann is one of the best instructors I've ever had! Works with the students to make sure they do well on assignments and writing. Would definitely recommend her for a professor.
The best English teacher ever.
she is the hardest teacher ever! she really messed up my GPA!!! DO not take her!
Her enthusiasm about the material is infectious. She gives lengthy feedback on all work submitted, which I loved. Best English professor I've been exposed to!
If you want to mess up your GPA, You are more than Welcome to take her class. If you read her essay directions, you will be like what a hell is goin on!!
This was my 1st online class, and it wasn't for me. She seems to be a good teacher, but I sometimes forgot to do the small, twice-a-week assignments, and eventually dropped the class. But she had some interesting comments on my work, and seemed to really be all about English. If you like online classes, she's a good teacher.
It is incredibly easy to get an A in this class. BUT to put it plainly, she is difficult to be around. She's full of herself and just rude. If you can get past this (which I could. Barely) then you'll finish with an easy A.
I took 300 and 301 online with Ann. Hands down, best English teacher I've ever had. She gives lengthy comments on essays and homework assignments to help you learn from mistakes. She grades essays on a high, but not-at-all unreasonable standard. She is not looking for "correct" answers on HW, she just wants you to do it completely and you get 100%.
She is okay as a person, terrible as a teacher!
Ann is a great professor...she is a little difficult for some but you have to want to learn in her class she is nice and helpful and very clear on what she expects out of you...I liked going to her class...just be warned that she is not an easy A as most would want...but if you want to learn to be a better writer Ann's class is highly recommended
Ann is graciously patient. She must be to have put up w me all semester and everyone else (honors r in large part discussion)! Extremely understanding and willing to work a bit for you as long as you do the req'd work for her. Can't imagine anyone reviewing her negatively. Mo st importantly, she gives excellent, very USEFUL feedback on papers!
Awesome teacher! She is very helpful and does a great job of teaching the material!
I took EngWR 300 online during summer session from Professor Lewis and found her to be an excellent teacher. I would recommend taking a class from her to anyone. However, if you are not already strong in writing, I would not suggest the summer session. She provides great feedback and is very responsive. Great teacher!
Unlike 99% of the English department, Anne doesn't bring her politics into the classroom and leaves the touchy-feely stuff alone. She simply gets right down to the business of making you a good writer. I was hopeless before her class; she showed me how to research and form a thesis, get it on paper and make it interesting to the reader. A+ lady.
Wonderful Teacher! Straight forward clear teaching. I took her online ENG WR 302 and I could have got an at, but work ft and spent alot of time on Math 123. I got a B+. I would take this teacher again!
Ann is great! She makes you think in discussion and in your essays. Coming to class is always fun and I've met and bonded with her and classmates moreso in Honors Comp than in any other class. Take her honors classes!
Great professor, took the online class. She is VERY helpful.
Best english teacher i have ever taken. Great teaching methods. Friendly, funny and often gets super hyper about teaching english.
Ann is a great English teacher! You do not have to buy the book because she wants to keep costs down for her students its available online. MAKE SURE YOU ARE PREPARED FOR CLASS. Don't waste her time. I can tell teaching is a passion of hers..and she gives many chances to revise to improve your grade. I highly reccomend her
She teaches a few levels on English. is entertaining, informative, easy going (but don't disrespect her!)
Took online Engwr301 and she is very organized and helpful. Gives you a chance to revise an essay and provides very helpful feedback. Use this feedback to make changes to your next essay and you will see your grade improve. Grade is based on 3 essays. Would easily recommend this professor.
Took her online class over summer. It was very fast paced and you had a lot of work to do but she is very organized and clear. All the homework helps prepare you for the final assignment. She responds to emails very quickly and always offers helpful tips. Really enjoyed her class.
Dont waste her time, revise out of class essays....and do your homework.. ANN IS AWESOME!!!!
Super hard class! Expects a lot of work and a harsh grader.
I can't stand this professor! Super hard and harsh. I end up dropping (;
One of the best Eng teachers.
One of the best English teachers.
She's nice to people who are really participating in class and patronizing to those who are asking questions and actively engaged with the coursework. She doesn't really know much about English outside of writing. Poor quality "college" isntructor.
Very harsh and over critical of your writing. I took her online class and regret it. Although she does help and want you pass the class, she is a hard grader.
WOW! What a surprise. I decided to take this class in the six week summer session, figuring I'd drop out after a week. But Ann presented the material in a clear, logical order. She provided helpful feedback on my writing and answered emails promptly. If you want to improve your writing - take this class.
Micromanaging and very slow paced class. She have us a test and then allowed us to take it home and use the book. She then allowed us extra time to finish it and then will allow us to redo a section that we felt we did poorly on. It takes the stakes for this class down significantly. Not really much to learn
Really bad professor that is all i can say. Do not take her. She is not a good teacher.
What a great class this is. I've not taken an online class before but Ann has everything logically organized and it's easy to follow the assignments. I'm learning so much and Ann responds to my emails almost immediately.
I was so under-prepared for this class (a course for future teachers about grammar). I appreciate the methodical way the instructor has gone over the information and filled in all of the missing parts from my previous grammar instruction. Now I'm looking forward to teaching grammar in the context of my future classes.
Ms Lewis is so nice her class is very enjoyable and she is very through and really strives for her students to pass. She is highly recommended from me
AMAZING teacher. she taught this class along side Marci Selva, and they are quite the duo. they always managed to make class fun and interesting, and Prof. Lewis was extremely understanding about situations that came up. she is an awesome teacher who really wants to see her students succeed. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Prof. Lewis is by far the best teacher I've had. I learned so much from her online class. The class is interactive, fun and most importantly effective.I took her for 300 over summer then 301 for fall. I got a B+ in summer but I was still learning. As far as 301, an easy A! If you wanna learn how to write take her class. I
Clear and concise assignments. Attendance is mandatory via 2 online assignments due a week, although they are worth 1% of the final grade. There were 4 writing assignments, no extra credit. The only way to get an A is to do very well on the written papers. I won't take this professor again. She didn't round my 89.2 up to an A.
Average professor at best. Everything is from the textbook, two assignments a week, and four essays each month. She does tend to grade harsh. You have to get a C or higher on the essays if you want to pass her class. Nice woman but I think she only caters to one learning style that doesn't do her much justice for an online environment.
Thanks for not rounding my 89.8 to an A. I never missed a class or an assignment. Spent six weeks of my summer break slaving away for this class, only to get a B. If you can, take someone else instead!
Ann was very fun, totally into her students, the process, discussion, etc. Participation is essential, but it's fun as the discussion often freewheeled into debate about all kinds of issues that were inspired by the text. Easy A if you participate and complete assignments. The class is student driven and student-centric. Really interesting.
Four essays make your grade basically but if you put effort into your work it will show. One revision allowed that can help your grade immensely. Long lectures explaining exactly how she wants the essay done, attendance mandatory.
Took both ENGWR 300 & 302 online with her. Simple weekly assignments. I think around 4 essays total. Most of grade is dependent on these essays. She is super organized in her online class which was great. Directions were clear and easy to follow. If writing is your thing you'll get an A. If not, you can still get an A or an easy B.
Took a online class and passed
She is one of the best professor I have took. I took her two semester .
I wish I could take here for 300, because in my 101 we had a lot of bad apples and we had to take a lot of time out to help them play catch up. She was very accommodating to them, but it was annoying to the students that actually did their work and listened to what she told us the first time. GREAT TEACHER. Very knowledgeable and worldly.
Absolute favorite teacher ever! She is so sweet and funny, and although she is a tough grader, I had no trouble receiving an A in the class. But to receive an A, you have to CARE about your writing. You have to want to succeed. It's not an easy A, it's a well-earned one.
An enthusiastic and funny teacher with clear and precise instructions to let you know what she needs. Attendance is a must, and 3+3 in/out class writing assignment in the summer semester. No pain no gain, if you want to pass or aim higher, efforts is a must.
Prof. Marci is awesome! Expectations are high b/c she wants you to do your best. BUT she genuinely cares about her students' success! She's approachable, transparent, open minded, understanding & very passionate so class is always engaging. You learn a lot & grow a lot as a writer and person. Read, discuss, & 4 essays. Fair grader. Take her!
Easy to talk to. She's very supportive and encouraging.
She does a great job of following the syllabus so you what to expect throughout the semester. Attendance is required but she also understands that life happens and will work with you.
If you are used to getting easy As brace yourself because you might not see an A grade again. She is picky about sentence structure, clarity and grammar. But, one thing is guaranteed she will teach how to write and you will feel more confident as a writer after taking her class. Do not miss any assignments not even the extra credit ones.
Your grade relies HEAVILY on the essays and there should be 3-4 (heard this might change to a 4 unit class). You have lots of time to do it and you get to revise 1 of them to better your grade! Shes super understanding and if you like literature youll love her class.
Professor Lewis is AMAZING! She is one, if not, the best teacher I've ever taken. She is very fun and creative. She is very thoughtful and considerate of her students. She is great at what she does and you feel the passion she has for it. Assignments are not difficult at all. They are simple yet thoughtful. Amazing teacher!
I enjoyed taking her class. We hardly used the textbook. She's really understanding and easy to talk to. She answers email quickly. The writing assignments affect your grade a lot so make sure to put a lot of effort into them.
She is so passionate about her students, she does not want to see you fail. In this course we read a lot of British literature and have a discussion in class about it. Mid-term was take home l, the final was based on participation and she lets you get creative with the final project. Easy A, just show up and read.
She's an amazing teacher, and what makes it even better is she loves her job. It's hard to find professor's who haven't lost that passion of teaching. Overall her class was extremely easy and very fun. She also provided all of the readings so we didn't have to purchase the textbook.
Ann Lewis is by far one of the best teachers at Sacramento City College, she is great at giving feedback to student on English essays, and she is very flexible with assignment due dates. Though, there may be a bit of work in her classes, its usually fun, and very educational.
This was a double class, an ENGLT class, and a Film class. Ann made it very fun and I highly enjoyed her class. I loved her class so much I'm taking her ENGLT 480 honors class in the Fall (2020) and will also review that if I can.
Professor Lewis was difficult to work with at first, because her assignment instructions were minimal. However, when I reached out to her it turned out she just wanted to take the pressure off us students during the pandemic and let us be creative. She leaves good feedback, I would take her for a writing class. You gotta reach out to her though.
I'm back from ENGL400 and now reviewing her ENGLT480! It was awesome! It was my first honors class and it was a great experience! I loved it so much I'm taking her AGAIN for the sequel class ENGLT481, I even dropped a different class as soon as I learned she was teaching this class! She is a real gem! A great professor!
Some of the projects where a little confusing but she was very understanding in her grading. She has a great personality.
I can't believe I forgot to rate ENGLT481 for SP2021, as I expected it was lovely! Just like her ENGLT 400 and her ENGLT480. It's a direct sequel course to 480. It's been a pleasure with Ann through these many semesters and even through a global pandemic! I heard she is retiring soon, which is a loss to the school, but I am happy for her.
Took this class during summer, my thoughts were that it was going to be a lot of work and reading but i was completely wrong! It was probably like 5 assignments and only had to do 2 essays during the 6 week course. She gives great feedback and lets you better your essay grade.
She's a good teacher. The essays are a bit difficult but manageable and important. I definitely became a better writer. Definitely a teacher I wanted to impress because I respect her thoughts on writing.
Honestly, Id take this class again if I could. Professor Lewis is so kind and I had such a good time. She gives you a lot of creative freedom for the final and enough time to do it right. Its a bit of work to get through, but if you enjoy mythology youll enjoy this class. She gives lots of time for quizzes and will email back quickly.
Great class. Might be stressful for honors students at first because the professor is very laid back, but once you understand that the class is more about literature than grades, it's very easy. Discussion post based off reading 2x a week, presentation (you lead a discussion), and one very short and easy research or literature review paper.
Great class and prof, this was my second eng lit class with Ann! It is a mythology course, so you're going to have to read a lot each week. There was usually one quiz on the myth and usually around 200 word discussion writing post about it each week. Pretty simple review midterm and final essays. Lots of freedom with what you can write about!
