She is nice and friendly but this is one class where you don't get out of it what you put in.
If you want to fail, take her as your physics teacher. Trust me, this is the worst ride of your life. She has a fake smile, she pretends to be nice but she is not.
very good teacher. Takes her time to explain the lab material and sometimes let you do group report.
People that say she is a good teacher are liars. Hardest teacher ever
Good Teacher! She actually wants you to learn the stuff! If you won't do any work, you won't do well, but if you study what she teaches, you will do fine! Tough but fair. If you don't want to learn Physics, take Biology!
A very good teacher. She takes time to explain the material no matter how long you take to understand. If you do your home work and study you should have no problem in her class.
Gets confused during class,TEST are confusing She will try to trick you on every test and not go over all the material on the test. READ THE TEXT BOOK! SHE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER! She can only explain material one way so if you don't get it your screwed. Take Mr. Hardies at tarpon spring campus.4/05
I came to this site read about her unsure if I should take her.Took anyway. What a BIG mistake!Shes nice/helpful, but tests are HARD.I failed.I believe in helping others so that we all can reach our goals,so I am very thankful for this site.If not a physics Whiz, trust me STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER.
She is very good at explaining the material, but her tests are excruiatingly difficult. If the test is over 3 chapters, you better know every word, inside & out for those chapters, plus every conceptual problem. I still think she is a quality instructor, but her tests are killers.
She herself is very nice and seems to like this subject however her tests are extremely hard. She gives homewrok problems to do but they are not anything like the test. I don't advise taking her. Very hard to pass.
She is an amazing teacher. She teaches the subject really well. If you do the homework problems that are assigned from each chapter, then you should do well on the tests. The problems are pulled from the in class problems and homework problems. If you go to her office, she is very helpful in explaining the information.
She is a wonderful teacher and very helpful. Well, for most of students including myself, physics is not an easy subject, but she explains materials very well in class and helps you outside of class if you have queations. Like someone said, if you do homework and understand the concepts, you will do just fine. I highly recommend her.
Excellent professor, very professional. She is very clear on what sections she expects you to know from the book. Very helpful. If you like physics you will like this professor.
Great teacher...
Only 3/4 test and 3/4 quizzes throughout the semester, the quizzes are pieces of cake but the test are serious business. Overall, she's nice and will go out of her way to help you. But those test are killer if you don't study...
Overall, a good teacher. Needs to have a better curriculum for summer semesters, though. Lab and lecture never synched, and we had to cut out a lot of stuff. It's difficult to judge a professor based on a summer semester, though.
Excellent teacher and extremely helpful. Her tests are hard, but not impossible. If you take physics 1 with her, continue with her for physics 2!
Absolutely horrible. I take Physics WITH Calculus (Physics I) and she marked off points on my quiz because I used calc and not algebra. She does not know how to teach. Explains a simple problem for half of the class and usually shes is wrong in the end, then says forget it. Ask her a question and she becomes nervous... feels like speech class.
I had her for Physics 1 Lab and was scared b/c everyone said that she was hard but she wasn't. She made everything so easy and was always willing to help out, with whatever I needed help on.
Was warned that Dr Eligon was more difficult than Summers but she's just a little more difficult to understand. She teaches right out of the book: read ahead & you'll worry a lot less. Do ALL the assigned homework. Study & mark up your formula sheets till you know what's what. Lab: read & answer EVERY question, and learn Excel b4 the Prac. A/A
Out of my many times taking Physics I & II, I must say that Professor Eligon has been the most accesible professor I have had in a long time. The course material was easily understood and easliy taught, I would say she knows what she is talking about. Not that I need to know Physics down the road, but throughout the semester she ensured me of it.
She teaches very fast, you have to be able to keep up with a fast paced class, she will go over any questions you have but doesn't really help much outside of class (for summer term anyways). As long as you work the problems out on the quizzes & exams she'll give you partial credit, but will also mark you off points if you don't show all your steps
Very nice teacher. She makes you work for your grade, but she will help you in any way that she can. She is very enthusiastic about physics. She has SO many crazy demonstrations that really are quite interesting. Very, very nice woman and a wonderful teacher. Be prepared to earn your grade though.
She is an OK teacher. She likes to trick you on tests and throw in some confusing questions to make you think harder. She also makes the questions harder than they should be by making you do a bunch of conversions. Not a bad teacher by any means. Eveb studying really hard didn't help me get a good grade. Doesn't really have a sense of humor either.
She is the worst teacher at Gibbs. She goes very fast with the material and her tests are extremely harder that the homework also she doesn?t curve or anything else. While in class you feel like she is a nice person and anxiousness about her teaching but the truth is she is a very bad person on the inside. SURE (F)
Dr. Eligon is my physics hero! Her tests are just like the hw and in-class problems. She does teach a little fast, but she is really good about taking time to explain the material if you go to her office. She has a lot of enthusiasm for physics and tries to pass it along to the students. Her lab reports are easy but very time-consuming.
I took her for General Physics 1 and I am currently taking her for General Physics 2. He teaching style is a little fast paced, but she is very clear with the subject matter. Do the assigned problems and you won't have an issue on the test. Its a tough course, study and you'll be fine. Seek her help if you've got and issue, she's willing to help.
I love Dr. Eligon!!! She is a good teacher, always willing to help, and is a really nice person. You HAVE to stay on top of the hw though - don't get behind in this class.
She is a very nice lady. Very passionate about the subject.. but goes waaaaaaaay too fast.. if you dont do the homework (which is not required) you will be completely lost. If you take her..be prepared to STUDY!!!!!! a loooooot!!
Dr. Eligon is a good teacher, but if anyone says she's easy they're LYING. She gives you the tools to succeed but do not underestimate her tests. OVERPREPARE.
She is a passionate teacher and very nice lady. BUTTTT the class is VERY HARD. The class is not designed for you to do well. 4 Tests and nothing else graded. Keep up with the homework and devote the majority of your time to this class and you will pass.
HARD! Too Fast! Had a tutor, met with her too, still didn't pass! Did all the homework, at least twice. No wiggle room because homework isn't graded and your grade is based on 4 tests. I didn't graduate from my BS program because of this class!!!
Terrible teacher. Very hard. Do not take this teacher at all cost. Gives a ridiculous amount of homework that has nothing to do with what she teaches in class. The homework problems are not similar to the problems she does in class. She does super easy questions in class and leaves the hard ones for you to do.
I managed an A in applied calculus, yet I struggled all throughout this woman's Physics class; which was trig based. Indeed, she is a very helpful and nice woman but that does NOT get you a good grade. The test are downright tricky, despite hours of studying. The questions are far too complicated, and require abstract thinking. Take another teacher
Avoid this Professor. Teaches straight out of the book, gives out lots of homework problems but does not prepare you how to solve the problem on the exam. Doesn't review passed exams or post a key, so you don't know why you got it wrong. One of the worst teachers I have encountered at SPC.
The fact that Dr. Eligon is getting such low ratings is baffling. Shes an extremely fair teacher and if you do the in-class problems and pay attention you should do fine. Her tests are hard BECAUSE THE MATERIAL IS HARD. If you're too unintelligent for the material, don't take the class. PERIOD. Shes extremely generous with partial points on exams.
I barely passed General Physics 1. Never been so happy to get a C! I do well in math, but this course was a struggle. Physics is Physics..cannot change much about it. She is so friendly/helpful; went to her office before class to do a few HW problems. DO the high amount of non-obligated HW to pass. This course should be your main focus!
Try to stay away from this teacher. Physics is my favorite subject, but not the teacher. She is very disrespectful and doesn't like to help. It is not the hard material, it is the teacher who makes it hard. She likes to surprise people with difficult exam questions, which you can't find in your class or homework problems.
Excellent prof. Be prepared to work b/c Physics is not easy - don't think for a minute that you can coast in this class. Pay attention in class, do the h/w problems, and ask questions - you should do fine. Study groups help a lot if someone in the group understands it. Exams are very much like homework - you just have to think them through!
She uses the solutions manual to solve problems, then asked you to do problems on exam she couldn't do. very unfair when you miss exam even documented cases. very disrespectful. avoid this teacher.
Very nice lady, but left no room for error! There are four tests, 10 questions, which cover 2-3 chapters! Like I said, no room for error! If you miss one question, you already have a B. She is available, but the tests are extremely tricky on an already difficult subject.
very nice professor and is available for u but she leaves no room for error and her grading methods will kick you're GPA'S butt. her exams consist of 10 questions which will take about two pages for you to answer 1 question. this could be a good class for people who want to be engineers but im in the medical field so if your like me AVOID HER!!!!!!
Dr. Eligon is by far the best teacher I have ever had. I say teacher, not instructor, because when you finish her class, you KNOW physics. Her tests are very difficult, but physics is difficult!! She prepares you very well, but be prepared to work.
Great teacher. she explains all the topics to detail. the tests are long, but you at the end of the semester you really understand all the concepts and you are prepared for abstract scenarios and problems.. i am glad I took PHY I with her.
I'm not sure why Eligon gets such bad ratings, especially from students in her 1049 and 2049 classes. This isn't a class that you can get away with not studying for. Ask questions, go to office hours, do the homework the night its assigned and then do it again. That said, Eligon is a total sweetheart but her tests are ridiculously hard.
If you take her,she will RUIN YOUR GPA. SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO explain AND IF YOU ASK HER A QUESTION, SHE WILL JUST CONFUSE HERSELF. IF YOU DO TAKE HER, HIRE A TUTOR!!!!!!!
Don't take her. U will regret it. If you do decide to take her, hire a tutor.
This class is hard! Dr. Eligon is a REAL professor who is actually going to teach you physics. If that isn't what you are looking for, take someone else's course. The exams can be a little bit too tricky, IMO. I had to work really, really hard for the A I just barely got.. but I understand physics! And isn't that the point?
I would NOT recommend this professor to anyone. Tests are extremely difficult and they're questions you see aren't related to your homework or class notes. She doesn't even prepare you how to solve questions on the tests.
Would NOT recommend this teacher, she goes way too fast in lecture, tests are extremely difficult, and there is no extra credit. This class needs to be taken more than 2.5 hrs a week. I study very hard to get to where I need to be and still need to retake this class.
I studied for 3 weeks straight for a test and only got a 79. I went to her office hours and she was helpful then but her test are impossible. I wish I drove to another campus! She doesn't care if you pass or fail!
Goes over all information prior to tests, but does grade very hard. Physics is hard overall to grasp and there is a load of information to teach. Overall, awesome teacher.
She is very hyper and very fast. She is always willing to help you outside of class. She is very strict with her grading, but is fair. I wouldn't recommend her if you're just taking Physics as a requirement.
Dr. Eligon is a great lecturer, very nice & very helpful. But, physics is a tough subject & she makes her tests ridiculously hard! Anything & everything you've ever learned in physics & math is fair game on a test, even stuff never covered in class or the homework. Unless you can devote hours to study & are really great at math, don't take her.
The other reviews here do not lie, her tests are VERY HARD! I compared some test questions with a friend who took it with another instructor his class sounded like a joke. She is a great teacher, and I did leave with a solid understanding of the material, but if your primary concern is your GPA, take it with someone else.
I would not recommend this professor. The tests are extremely hard and the questions you see on the test don't relate to your homework or class notes. She does not prepare you for the tests at all. In addition, the professor is not very accommodating when it comes to missing a test. She will tell you to take the 0 and use that as your drop grade.
This class was very hard, but well-worth it. I walked out understanding physics. She's a very straight-forward lecturer. To do well on her tests, start from the back; most of the points are there. Show up to class on time, redo the in-class problems, redo the HW until mastery, & ask questions if you don't understand something. Don't procrastinate!
Gives tons of homework. Does not grade any of it. Gives 3 tests and a final. None of the test question will be what you saw in your homework. Does ok at giving partial credit. She really believes that she loves to teach but is terrible at it. After our third exam the class average was 67%. None of the exams had a class average over 70%.
This class was tough but that is because the material is tough. To do well in this class, you have to do the homework and put in effort. She does a great job of explaining difficult concepts. She is very caring and helped me almost every day after class with homework/questions that I had.
Mrs. Eligon was a very friendly instructor, but my main problem with the course was that she gave us very little opportunity to succeed. Your entire grade is based off of four tests, and my class never had a test average above a D. Of course, you have to do the work to succeed, but she doesn't give us any resources other than her in class lectures.
This class was definitely difficult, she really explained things well, and I feel like I'm coming out of it with a good understanding of physics. If you take her, study the homework questions. Most of the test questions are very similar to the homework, and homework quizzes are exactly the same questions; except there is only one or two.
She goes over a lot in lecture, so if you miss, you'll be missing a lot of material. I love that I'm coming out if her classes really understand physics, she didn't just make you memorize formulas-she actually gives you them for tests-rather she makes sure you know how to apply them and why. Overall there is a lot of work, but it's worth it!
Ive never seen a more inaccurate assessment. I tried to avoid this professor due to what I read on here. That would have been a shame. She is incredible. She is an excellent teacher and gives you clear expectations. I study here and there and for exams, but my schedule doesn't allow as much time as I should be studying.
she's always ready to help and stuffs are easy to understand. she goes over a lot of material during the class, so don't skip classes. her tests are little bit long, but problems are okay, quizzes are easy. however, she gives no extra credits, and 80% of your grade is based on 4 tests and final so that's a nightmare for a careless people like me.
I waited until the end of the semester to write this. Dr. Eligon is by far the best physics instructor. I was hesitant to take her for Physics I because of reviews for her here; what a total mistake!! She gives great lectures, breaks things down into manageable topics, and does many problems in class. Tests are very fair and easier than homework.
This class was lecture heavy. No extra credit allowed. Most of grades went to 4 exams and a cumulative final. Class average was around 60% for tests and the final was 70%. Professor has passion for physics and easily accessible outside of class for extra help. Must study hard to pass.
Prof. Eligon was a lifesaver. I missed her final exam because I thought it was Wednesday but it was the Monday of that week and she let me take it late. I don't know of anyone else who would do something that nice for me.
Very nice person, not great at teaching. Notes are unorganized/confusing, arent posted online. This class needs to be longer--she rushed evry lecture and still had to skip parts that we didn't have time to get to. If class averages for tests are consistently in the 60s, isn't that a sign you're failing as a teacher? Dont take w her unless u have to
Stay away from this professor. The lecture is intense and heavy at the same time. She will rush through materials. The average on all the three exams was in the 60's and final 69's.
Professor Eligon is an AWESOME professor! Her lectures are very detailed and understandable. She brakes things down so you can understand the concepts and how the algebra is used to prove the concepts. She makes note taking easy and understandable by writing everything out, not just by saying it. By far one of the best professor I have taken.
Don't listen to reviews, if you are a good student and ready to study you will succeed. It's not an easy class but the material is difficult so everyone struggled. Professor Eligon is really passionate and great at presenting the material.
The class is easy if you take the time to prepare for the tests. She makes it crystal clear of what is going to be on the test. Homework is optional but I recommend doing it because all test questions come from the homework. For the final exam, she gave us a pool of 24 questions to study. The final exam consisted of 12 questions from the pool.
Her classes are well taught. You'll finish her course with a solid grasp of the material. She also cares about her students, and she takes time to meet with each student one-on-one to review our exams. Do the homework assignments because it's not an easy class. Don't worry about the low average test scores if you did the homework assignments well.
Dr. Eligon is a great physics teacher. The homework is optional, but useful for the test. She gives study guides which are VERY similar to the test. I had her class on ZOOM and she made everything easy to understand. I will definitely be taking her for physics 2. Equation sheets are an easy A and the quizzes are similar to the in-class problems.
Test reviews vaguely resemble test content. Be sure you really understand concepts being thrown at you in the review or you will not do well on the tests. Grading is fair but is a bit test-heavy. For people who have a lot of test anxiety, beware.
She has by far been one of the best professors I've had! Homework isn't graded so your grade is mostly the tests, but she gives reviews before the test that are almost exactly like the actual test. You also don't need to memorize any equations because you're given them on the test. Her lectures are also very engaging!
Don't get me wrong, professor Eligon is very nice and qualified in her field. Unfortunately, her teaching skills are not what they should be. I've never had to rely so heavily on the internet to learn. The class average on all exams was around 55%, which should never be the case in any class. She also does not curve these tests.
Take her class schedule and expectation SERIOUSLY. The in-class lectures it was hard to keep up with. She has all the class work done beforehand and speeds through it which doesn't give students enough time to process the work. I underestimated the workload the class came with. Mark the schedule in your calendar, and reach out to tutors as needed.
Make sure to show up every week for lab. Graded assignments consist of: 2 lab reports 2 lab exams 10 completion sheets (lab report) 8 lab quizzes Passed the lab with an A - failed lecture with an F. Utilize her office hours she is willing to help and provides good input.
I had her for physics and was very nervous about this subject. I ended up loving it. Professor Eligon's passion for teaching is apparent in her lectures, and she explains the "why" behind the equations and draws connections between the topics we have learned. Assignments were clear and the tests were about things we learned in the class.
Professor Eligon was AMAZING! She works out problems from start to finish. For the reviews, she tells you what problems to focus on from the textbook for the test; SAME QUESTIONS WITH DIFFERENT NUMBERS! She dedicates the time and understands that physics calculations are a pain but she does care and makes sure you understand the topics. THANK YOU!!
She's a good teacher but the class is hard. You have to study a lot for the tests and tbh that's lame asf. But if you take the time to actually study it's pretty light. I might have autism so it took me a bit to understand everything but in the end it makes sense. I find it helpful to find your own way of doing things though. She cool subject blows
Labs and both lab exams rely heavily on using excel, but she doesn't explain how to use it. Labs never coordinated with lecture and took a long time to complete. They were confusing and she doesn't explain what to do, forcing you to figure it out alone. She once laughed at me and my lab partner for admitting we didn't understand a lab question.
Professor Eligon was an amazing professor. Although the grade was mainly based on four exams, she gave a PDF of recommended problems before each exam, and the problems were very similar to those on the exam.
She is one of the most caring professors at SPC and is very patient with her students. All her materials are easily accessible online to help you succeed. No reason anyone should get anything less than an A unless you are absolutely not trying. Lectures were very to the point and concise.
