Dr. Merriwether was an amazing professor who really sparked my interest in Psych. This is a reading-heavy course and requires a lot of studying. If you don't put in the work, you simply won't do well, so be prepared to put in a lot of effort. Overall, she is a great professor if you want to learn interesting Psych and get what you paid for it.

Ann Merriwether is so incredibly intelligent and you can tell that there is a real passion there for her subject. This class is tough, you will have to put effort in to get a good grade, but you will get a lot out of it. I would not recommend this class if you are not a psych major, because of the work load. But she teaches it well and it is great.

Learned a lot in this class. Amazing lectures, great personality. Tests were hard though. There were always two correct answers but it was whatever was "most correct." Also very textbook heavy. Goes over a lot in lecture but 25% of the test is textbook specific.

Dr. Merriwether had amazing lectures! She is so intelligent and really cares about psychology. She really makes you work for the A though. You have to read the textbook for sure. Overall I would definitely take another class with her.

Class is super interesting especially if you like developmental psychology. She is hilarious and tries her best to give us real world examples for concepts learned in class. Make sure to go to all of the lectures because most of the test is based on lecture material, but don't skip reading either because she loves "pop" quizzes!

Great professor. Class is hard but she tells you exactly what to do to do well: read the textbook, pay attention to lectures, go to weekly review sessions, and don't cram the night before for the tests. Not an easy A, not an easy B either, but if you enjoy psychology and don't mind working hard for your grades then you'll like this class.

Merriwether is a super interesting and good lecturer. I always seem to be able to pay attention. you NEED to go to lectures because she doesnt post slides and all your notes are what she says in class. Her exams and quizzes are very difficult to be prepared to read the text book and pay attention.

By far one of the most passionate professors I've taken here at BU. She is a wealth of information and keeps her lecture VERY interesting. I've learned so much from this course and she really broadens your perspective on development. GO TO LECTURE you should write down her notes but ALSO what's she says. Good grade is possible with hard work!

It's true that you have to write down everything she says and carefully read the textbook, but if you put the work in you should do well. I absolutely love Ann. This is my favorite class I have taken at Binghamton so far. She is clearly passionate about the subject, and she engages the students the whole class. If you read the textbook and attend lectures you will do fine in the class. She also gives lots of extra credit, and drops a quiz and an exam. Overall recommend her classes!

She is very knowledgeable and great at teaching. She drops the lowest exam so I usually do reply well on the first two and dont even have to go to class the last few weeks

Harder than needed to be, smart woman, very particular on quizzes/tests . Dropped 2 lowest test AND quizzes which helps but material covered is on the most specific details of her verbal lecture AND textbook (like studies and boxes that no one reads). Test/quiz answers a & b, None of above, all of above etc which is mad tricky sometimes.

Dr. Merriwether is one of my favorite professors. Her lectures are very interesting and she is super passionate and intelligent. Tests are pretty hard, but if you take good notes and READ THE TEXTBOOK you'll do fine, there's a lot of "all/none of the above" answers. There are also pop quizzes but she's great about extra credit. Love her!

Merriwether tries to help the class do well with a lot of extra credit assignments, and quiz and test drops. You must read the textbook and take notes on her lectures. Tests and quizzes can be tricky with none of the above answer choices. If you do well enough on the first 2 exams, dropping the final exam is an option which is a big perk as well.

She is a really great lecturer but the tests are 30-40% textbook only. I would recommend reading and taking good notes on the textbook. Otherwise a very interesting class

Be prepared to take a lot of notes in lecture and to read every single word from front to back of that textbook. She doesn't take attendance but you have to go to pass. She's the type to put 5 E's in a row in a 10 question quiz just to trick you but don't fall for it, that's her style. Fascinating individual and truly brilliant.

Nice, spunky teacher with enjoyable lectures. Although some of her tests and quizzes are hard because of lots of options for answers and specificity, if you study hard, you'll be fine. You also get to drop a quiz and test, and she gives extra credit (so go to class!). Don't skimp on classes or textbook reading, it will all come up on the tests

Took her for PSYC 111, shes a great professor. She made this class 10x more interesting than I expected. While the tests may be difficult, they are doable. She gives various extra credit opportunites throughout the semester, tells you ahead of time when pop quizzes will be. If you can take a class with her , DO IT!!!

This is not an easy class. But, Merriwether is one of the most passionate and incredible professors I have ever met. She gives pop quizzes but will say "im feeling a quiz next week" so she lets you know you should study for it. She gives out extra credit. Its important to read the textbook and take good lecture notes. she drops things too. AMAZING!

She's a solid choice for a prof because she really knows what she's talking about. She frequently holds office hours but also tries to answer a lot of questions in class. Her lectures are amazing, but you must read the textbook all the time in order to catch on with what she is talking about. Her quizzes and exams are very tricky as sometimes I overthought it. Her lectures are clear to understand and fun because she gives an example of her personal life and pictures on slides etc. This was definitel my hardest class

I took HDEV309 online with Merriwether over the summer. Although the class was highly interesting, there is a lot of work for a summer class. I wouldn't take this if you're not willing to devote all of your time to it. I'm not sure how this class would run normally but it was much more work than I was expecting.

Amazing professor all around ! The class itself is hard and definitely not an Easy A, but if you put in the work ,attend lecture, and READ the textbook you will do well in the class. You are able to drop one test and one or two quizzes depending on how many you get and there are lots of extra credit opportunities.

Dr Merriwether is by far my favorite professor! Her class definitely requires reading the text book to do well and she gives plenty extra credit opportunities. She is always looking for ways to help the class succeed and is very knowledgeable on the topics she teaches. Exams are not cumulative and one exam is dropped. Highly highly recommend!!

Merriwether is very caring for her students and is always coming up with things to give for extra credit. Her lectures are very interesting but her quizzes and tests can be hard so thorough notes are needed. Textbook is necessary and will be tested on. Prof. Merriwether is AMAZING but her class is pretty tough. You have to watch ALL of the lectures and do ALL of the readings to succeed. However, she makes them interesting and truly cares about the mental health of her students. She often made accommodations to the quizzes if she saw a lot of people were stressed. Also, do ALL EC (it's rare).

Very very textbook heavy but as long as you remember just the important terms for each chapter you should be fine. Very sweet person and enjoyed her lectures- explains things thoroughly and implores students to create their own opinions on certain topics. Enjoyed watching her show her pets in video lectures.

As much as I enjoyed Professor Merriwether, if this class isn't mandatory for your major, don't take it. The class is a weed-out course, and so you have to put in a lot of extra time if you want to do well. If you do take this course, do all the reading, watch/attend all the lectures, and take diligent notes.

I had her for fall 2020 and this course was asynchronous. The lectures weren't too bad as long as you put it in 1.75 speed because she talks extremely slow. She drops the lowest 2 quiz grades out of 7 and lowest test grade out of 3. The quizzes and test are timed so you cannot go back to the previous questions. Good class with a great professor.

In Fall 2020 this class was asynchronous with open note quizzes and exams, however, your notes MUST be very detailed. Quiz and exam questions are based on lectures and the textbook, so it is crucial to be caught up on the material. That being said, Merriwether gave many extra cred opportunities. If you put in the work you will do well.

Merriwether is the best. Definitely recommend taking her at least in your first year, its a great class to have freshman year! She teaches really well, and makes the material interesting and engaging!

It's important to pay attention and attend lectures in her class. She gives a good amount of quizzes and tests that are heavy and hard (they are open ended with no backtracking) so studying is important. There are plenty of office hours that could help though.

I loved Ann Merriwether, she was always engaging and explained psychology concepts with real-life examples which helps when trying to remember them. She also cares about her students and presents fun extra credit assignments. She inspired me to become a psychology major!

Took this class for nursing degree and although it was a little slow in in the beginning, it picked up and was super interesting. She made the material super relatable and showed us pictures and videos of her alpaca's so that was usually the highlight of my day. 10/10

Dr. Merriwether is one of the finest professors that Binghamton University has. I had the pleasure of taking her class completely online because of COVID and she really made the workload fair and manageable, but you do have to work for a good grade. Shes fun, engaging, and gives lots of extra credit opportunities!

Lectures were asynchronous panapto videos. If you take good notes and put in the effort, you will get a good grade. Writing definitions for each chapter also really helped me do well. She is very easy to follow and knows what she is talking about. Taking 220 with her next semester.

Loved taking Psych 220 with Dr. M. With the class being online due to covid, she was still able to keep the asynchronous lectures engaging and interesting. The tests were fair but they are based on both lecture and test material. She was enthusiastic to answer questions. You can tell she cares about her students and what she is teaching.

Merriwether is deeply passionate about developmental psychology, and she wants to support her students as much as possible. You definitely have to work for your grade because of the fill in the blank questions, but you walk away feeling as if you learned a lot.

She's a great professor, but this class is very lecture and textbook heavy. Keep up with all readings and lectures, TAKE GOOD NOTES, they will help you when studying for exams. Quizzes every 2 weeks, if you did the readings and watched the lectures you'll do just fine. Exams are the same structure as quizzes just longer. Recommend this class!

Take this class!! Professor Merriwether is so so wonderful, so intelligent and inspirational. No lie I want her to be my best friend. This class is so interesting, and you will learn so much from it. Took her course online so there was not much interaction, but her teaching style is superb and she is able to make you think and remember concepts in a way so that they stick with you. If youre genuinely interested in the class and wanna learn the material, take it, but its a lot of work. Not an easy A or free credits. Tests/Quizzes are pretty fair but you have to prepare. I loved her class! She is passionate about psychology. Her lectures were interesting and she included her alpacas into some of them. However, to get an A you will probably have to read the textbook on top of lecture. Not everything on the quizzes and exams is covered in lecture. I hope to take a class with her again!

Most interesting Professor Ive ever had at Binghamton. Lectures were always engaging, regardless of topic. To pass write down basically everything she says and she makes a point of testing on the textbook material that often is not mentioned in lecture.

She is very enthusiastic about helping and is very clear about what is to be expected for tests and quizzes. This seminar really is not hard its just such a disorganized class and everything is all over the place. She doesn't really explain exactly what you need to do which makes the work become confusing and sort of overwhelming. She is very generous though and gives you extensions on whatever you need without any grade penalty.

I cannot stress this enough, TAKE THIS CLASS! I just finished TAing for Dr. Merriwether, and if I could I would definitely do it again. The material is always so interesting, and the way she lectures is amazing. Despite the honest fact that this class is a lot of work, everything you learn in this class is valuable, ESPECIALLY for psych majors.

This class was a significant amount of work for a 100 level course. However, Dr. Merriwether made each lecture extremely engaging and has plenty of personal stories to make things interesting. I will say, do NOT slack off when it comes to the quizzes because you are graded by few things and they count for a lot of your grade.

Merriwether is a great and smart professor, psych 111 is a hard class though. There were so many readings to do, lots of quizzes (2 get dropped) and thought exercises. There are 2 exams and a final, one of these can get dropped. Lectures are interesting and engaging but the class requires a lot of work.

Dr. Merriwether clearly has a passion for psychology and its nuanced components, but the quizzes and tests are very difficult if you don't spend hours each week studying outside of lecture. Read the textbook; it's the only way a student can do reasonably well on examinations.

She is one of my favorite professors, and I can tell that she cares for all of her students. My recommendation for this class is to do ALL of the extra credit that is offered and attend all the classes because everything counts and you never know when she'll give extra credit in class. Without the extra credit, I wouldn't have gotten my A-.

DevPsych with Dr. Merriwether was very enjoyable. Exams/quizzes relied mostly on lecture material and less on textbook, however the asides/case studies (yellow boxes) in the textbook were crucial for tested questions. There's a good amount of chances to improve in class if at first you don't succeed and a good amount of helpful resources available.

Class is hard but really interesting and if you go to lecture and read the textbook you should be okay. Gives a lot of extra credit and TAs are helpful.

Professor Merriwether is brilliant but also super difficult. This will be one of your favorite classes but also your hardest. Don't read the textbook, read summaries on StuDoc and you'll be fine, however, if you don't go to class and write down all her lectures your grade will suffer. This class was unlike anything I've taken with Dr.M. She's brilliant and it shows in everything she does, but this class was particularly participatory which was cool because you don't get that in her big lectures. This class is NOT NEEDED FOR PSYCH MAJORS. Gives S Gen ed. Avoid this dev psyc class if possible. So much material to memorize its insane. Big part of grade is determined by quizzes and 3 tests (1 can be dropped). Emphasis on textbook readings. If you have no problem with memorization and/or enjoy this topic then its a good class ig.

Professor Merriweather gives a lot of extra credit if you are in the lectures to know when she is giving extra credit. She also has pop quizzes but she gives you a warning beforehand like "I'm feeling a quiz next class." Read the textbook and pay attention in the lectures and you should be fine.

A very lenient professor. Will require textbook reading and additional readings with exams on text specific material not outlined in lectures. Her classes are humongous so getting a hold of her, not her TAs, is hard. Will offer loads of extra credit opportunities and will hint at upcoming thought exercises/quizzes. Studying is a must.

honestly she has a great personality and class is interesting. the class is also very easy as long as you study for like 20 min per day. reading the textbook is recommended but tbh i never read it and got a good grade still. she offers so much extra credit, too.

This professor is amazing! She makes sure there is a ton of review sessions for every exam and there is drop in office hours, appointment office hours and a weekly one hour review. The course is very fair. you will do well if you take good notes (write down everything she says) and read the textbook. She drops the lowest 2/7 quizzes and 1/3exams.

Make sure you go to lecture & take thorough notes, also be familiar with textbook content; you never know what might be on tests/quizzes. She offers about 30 points of extra credit, which goes a long way. The office hour reviews (both Dr. M's & TA's) before tests/quizzes are so helpful too! You just have to apply yourself & you'll earn a good grade

Dr. Merriwether is my absolute favorite professor I have had so far. She made the content really interesting and showed that she cared how students did in her class. I can't wait to take more classes with her. The content is a little challenging so make sure to go to lecture, read the text book, and study a lot and you should be fine.

This class is an adjustment at first but gets easier. Review material after every lecture so you aren't cramming before the exam and are prepped for pop quizzes. Everything that comes out of her mouth in lecture is fair game so write everything down. She gives hints in her office hours. Class is easy if you know how to study. Gives extra credit!

Really smart and intelligent. Conveys her topic well and makes it easy to understand. Feels like she cares about students and grades, gives lots of support for quizzes and tests. Would take her again. Lots of textbook reading and notes. Best way to get a good grade is memorizing with flashcards but takes a lot of time.

At first, psych 111 with her was terrifying, but it's not that bad once you get the way she teaches down. GO TO HER AND HER TA'S REVIEW SESSIONS!!! You can ask questions and have practice questions, some of which were the same questions asked on pop quizzes she gives answered. She's a funny and sweet professor and genuinely cares about her students

Quizzes during the semester are always unannounced but she drops "hints" during class so make sure to be at the lectures. Professor Merriwether is extremely interested in the topics covered, which rubbed off in the way she taught. She explained many things in depth during lectures, and was always available for extra help. Take notes from the textbook/lecture and stay on schedule to be ready for specific quizzes and tests. Merriwether is an awesome professor! She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities in class so definitely go to lectures. Exams are very lecture heavy and textbook reading is a MUST to do well in this course. Attend the TA office hours because they are super nice and friendly--also provides practice questions like kahoots etc. before every test.

Professor Merriwether is a very fun teacher and very personable. She includes interesting personal details in her lectures and makes sure to explain difficult concepts in an easy to understand manner. She is quite test heavy, but if you make sure not to let the class get ahead of you, you should be fine.

Mixed bag. Tough class, can't say she makes it easier. Graded on just a few assignments, test heavy. Have to read the textbook to do well, on top of lecture. Despite this, very knowledgeable, kind and is usually open to answering questions/fairly accessible office hours. All her extra credit is the saving grace, would be tough to do well sans it.

Dr. M made her class super enjoyable and grading was clear. She gave tons of extra credit and is an amazing teacher. Professor Merriwether is overall a strong scholars professor, and she does a good job at engaging students in discussion while participating herself. She tends to occasionally over-rely on her TA, but when she does lecture, you can tell she knows what she's talking about. If you read and participate, you will excel.

The class was definitely very difficult, but with a lot of effort you can do well. There are 3 tests throughout the semester and 7 quizzes, but she drops one test and two quizzes. She also offers a lot of extra credit and extra help zooms at least once a week, along with TA's offering zoom's almost daily.

My only criticism is that the textbook readings are very tedious but required if you intend to get an A in the class. This is a tough class and requires ALOT of studying. That said, she is a very fair professor and teaches her material better than any other professor I have ever had. I learned more from her than I ever did from all of my other psych classes combined. If you study hard and go to every class it is very possible to do well in her class.

A lot of people think her class is too hard for a 111 course and it def is a lot of work but it is doable.

I took her for PSYC 465, she's an amazing professor. Class is led by the students and generates a lot of discussion. Tests are short answer/fill in the blanks. Allowed one cheat sheet on a reg sheet of paper, which is super useful. Attendance is mandatory, but can be made up. Graded by attendance, participation, 2 tests and one final project.

Merriwether tells you exactly what you need to do well- you need to read the textbook. I did average on all of the tests but had so many extra credit points that I wound up with an A and didn't have to take the final. She's an amazing lecturer, if you pay attention in class you barely have to study your lecture notes.

There are a lot of thought exercises and quizzes that you are usually told about beforehand. Must read everything in the textbook. Once you figure out her style it is very manageable. A lot of extra credit opportunities are given to help boost your grade. Would definitely take this again.

Ann is literally such a queen. Reading the TB and going to lectues are literally the key. She also does sm extra credit in class (she could literally ask you to draw circles) and her exams are example heavy (lowk like bio 114 exams) but her lectures were lowk interesting but if you skip the class or don't read the tb godspeed

Professor Merriwether gives very entertaining lectures that make the course just a little bit better. She gives extra credit assignments, is clear about what she will be asking, and gives good notice before test but does have pop quizzes that she hints at beforehand. She does push her views from time to time but overall an enjoyable class.

Dr. M is an absolute queen. You will have to read a textbook chapter or two a week and there are frequent quizzes and thought exercises, but as long as you keep up with the readings you will be fine. She will give you 7 quizzes that are supposed to be pop, so you have to show up to class to avoid zeros. The tests are hard and include textbook only content that she intentionally skips in class. She gives a lot of small extra credit assignments but they do add up. Overall good professor but is pretty hard and annoying with the reading.

Merriwether did not actually lead the class for the most part (the TA did) since SCHL127 was a more laid-back course, but she frequently contributed to discussions and I could tell she was very passionate about her work. She cares a lot about students' well-being as well, but I hear PSYC can be a different story at times.

She is so caring and truly wants all her students to do well! The lectures are very content heavy so take good notes! Reading the yellow boxes in the textbook is important as she tests on those concepts. The thing that makes this class challenging is the way some of her answer choices are worded, just read carefully and you should be fine!

Ann is nice but her quizzes give you 90 seconds to answer a question before the next one comes so it makes it harder. The course itself isn't too bad because she offers so much extra credit. I loved this class. Merriwether is kind, understanding, and knowledgeable. The textbook readings are different than the lectures so you must do both. I found both the readings and the lectures enjoyable and very interesting. The work can get a little overwhelming if you want an A but it is very straightforward, she doesn't try to trick you at all.

Merriwether sort of took a back seat for the Scholars class and let the TA teach, but she still had lots of things to say about the random topics we discussed. Definitely not afraid to show her personal beliefs and is also quite peppy. Unfortunately she will no longer be teaching Scholars classes but it was a fun time.

If you want a professor who is very knowledgeable and knows how to explain complex ideas in an interesting and understandable way, Meriwether is a perfect Professor. I absolutely loved Psych111 with Dr. Merriwether. She is funny, captivating, intelligent and a fantastic professor. The lectures were phenomenal, and with even a little bit of studying the tests were completely manageable. There are zoom review sessions really often and sometimes daily, and the TA's are super helpful too. I loved this class.

This is the hardest course I've ever taken, she does not give out A's. She has taught me how to work for my grades. Lectures are highly entertaining, but exams are both based on lecture and text so do your reading! She truly cares about her students and getting them the accessibility they need. Her class even got me to switch my major.

As mentioned she is very tough but a phenomenal professor. I was struggling and she always made time to meet with me outside of class and went out of her way to help me succeed. My only complaint was I was not a fan of the format of her quizzes as you were time-limited per question which was a struggle for me. Very difficult class but learned alot.

Wow. Truly wow. This class had no reason being as hard as it was. Quizzes essentially every week, and she expects you to read hundreds of textbook and reading materials for every exam, to which she proceeds to ask super niche details from both.
