An outstanding teacher
This teacher changed my life! She is wonderful!
Best writing teacher ever, answers email promptly, has interesting and challenging assignments.
Very nice, sweet young woman. She really cares about writing. If you want to learn, I'd recommend Ann. She's a really great instructor.
Ann is a great teacher. She relates well to all age levels of students and she challenges them to think outside their comfort zones. She responds very quickly to emails and is always willing and available to help students. She really cares! Just do your assignments and participate! :)
this teacher told me about this website and it has changed my life forever. on another note, she's a great teacher.
Ann has been super. She is tough, but understanding. She knows what she's talking about and she explains everything well. The readings assigned were always interesting and thought-provoking. She also reminded me that writing an essay isn't so bad. Thank you, Ann Palazzo, for an excellent class.
took online course and was faily easy but i like writing. ann is a very good professor and really wants her students to learn and apply the skills she teachers. some directions were almost too in depth for me to understand at times but ann was always quick to respond and help out. a lot of work is needed but if you like english this class is easy
really responsive and helpful.. fun free-spirit but still a good instructor!
great teacher. very helpful and willing to help in anyway. she won't let you fail if you want to pass.
Before taking this course I HATED english with passion until Ann's class. She made me love to write and be creative in my writing. very helpful. she will go out of her way to make sure everyone is on the same page. Highly recommend this teacher. She is awsome!!!
ann was awesome! she really wants you to learn, and helps direct you so your papers turn out the way you want them...and making you turn in a rough draft to a peer and the online help desk was scary at first, but actually very helpful in the end...the assignments were a little hard to understand (lack of organization?) but she's quick to clarify!
i would just like to say, thanks again for everything!!! because of your class and the time and effort you put into our learning the material, i will forever obtain a new view of our community as well as myself as a woman. thanks again, good luck with your future
Great professor for those who are genuinely interested in learning - very interactive and interesting class time and readings - the assignments are relevant and helpful. Class is easy if you show up each week and do the work - it's not a "breeze" class where you can just show up once or twice and try to turn in all the assignments at the end.
Professor Palazzo is someone who genuinely cares about her students and the progression that they make under her teaching. She is a powerful teacher in the sense that she pushes you out of your comfort zone yet helps you realize that you sometimes that is what is needed to become an amazing writer. Professor Palazzo is one of the BEST!!
I took this class online and all i have to say is wow what a great class. This is the best online course i have ever taken. I wish ann taught all of my online classes.
I recommend Ann highly. She is not going to let you slide but you will WANT to perform well for her. The class discussions are better than any book club... She will get off track telling you interesting stories and letting you tell yours, but then tie it in to the days subject and you know she planned that all along. We always lingered after class!
Taking an online class from Ann was the worst online class experience I have ever had. Her links never worked, she took FOREVER to get back to you regarding your assingments, and she didn't keep her students updated on their grades. I'm surprised that all I see are positive things here...
Ann has been an amazing teacher. She's very open and helpful with all writing styles. She knows what she's talking about, but doesn't have that "elitist" quality everybody hates. She lets the class have fun, and creates a very honest and relaxed atmosphere. I'd reccomend this class to any writer.
Wicked fun class. We were a rowdy bounch, and she managed to teach us anyway! Too bad she is only teaching online next quarter, would have liked to have had her again.
Very nice and fun. Really tolerable when everyone got rowdy. Schedule for critiques on peer submissions a bit unclear, but not entirely her fault. Attendance is useful, otherwise you get behind easily. Personally wish that submissions were strictly internet- used up a ton of paper for one class. Overall, a rather good experience.
By far the hardest class that I have taken since I have been in college (4 years)! Good luck if you take this class.
Ann has been my favorite professor so far. By taking her class, I can tell that she has a passion for teaching and really cares about her students. She is extremely helpful, willing to meet outside of class to help with any assignment. She encourages peer assessment, so it is not just her opinion being taught. I highly recommend her class.
Web version. This class was a lot of work, but I learned a lot! My writing improved and I now have resources that will help me in the future. Ann was so helpful and quick to respond to emails. I recommend the online course and would definitely take other courses from her. If online directions seem unclear, just email her and she will clarify.
What drug was people on when they said she was easy? She is far from easy! If you are good in English then take her you will do fine. IF you want to work your rear end off- take her. You will learn, but need to bleed before you can get a good grade. TON of work!
(Web Class)This was the best class! Ann is a wonderful instructor and offers tons of input. I learnd so much more about writing from taking this class. Take it! You will love it!
(ONLINE) Pretty unhelpful; if she doesn't like what you write, it must be a horrible work of writing; assignments sometimes unclear; not very good at keeping grades updated; didn't even attend the open mic that was mandatory for students; course was somewhat disorganized; group project was a joke- no enforcement of getting members to do equal work.
Ann was such a wonderful teacher to have!! She is very understanading and just a down to earth type of person. She had helped me with many questions I had,and was happy to answer them. She was also was very quick to e-mail back if there was any problems or confusion that I had. I was very happy that I had someone like her for my English teacher. :-)
I took this class online and found it very challenging, which I don't consider a bad thing! I thought is was very interesting subject matter, and Ann was very helpful and gave great feedback on my work.
She is totally cool! She is really helpful and fun.
Such a fun teacher, as long as you do the work, attend classes, and participate, it is a fun class and you will do well...I thoroughly enjoy this class, personally it is the best one I have had at CSCC and she is one of my favorite teachers of all time! TAKE THIS CLASS!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER.All my other ENGL professors have loved my work however Ann is VERY hard on grading and I really don't like english now,its always been my favorite subject. There is a lot of busy work too. Good luck if you take this class, you'll need it.
TOP NOTCH TEACHER. IF YOU DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU'RE MISSING OUT!!! Ann is somewhat paradoxical- laid back yet expectant, quirky and logical. She creates an atmosphere of trust in the classroom without being a fake-smiling "yes-woman". She puts time & thought into her feedback and isn't afraid to joke with her students. She's fantabulous!
ONLINE: I have taken several of her classes online and love her. She is very helpful and a very easy grader. I recieved an A in this class, but I had to earn it. There is a lot of work but as long as you do it you will be fine. She also goes above and beyond to help you if you have any questions. I don't know why she has gotten so many neg ratings!
In my opinion this class is exactly as hard as it should be. English 281 is the premier english class at CSCC. If it's not too hard for most, then it won't be hard enough for those who should be taking it.
GREAT PROFESSOR!...fun, open atmosphere in the classroom. She always takes extra time to help you with papers and responds quickly to emails. I look forward to loading up on Ann-classes in future quarters.
lots of work, but its always interesting. i really enjoyed creative nonfiction writing.
Hated this teacher. Her online class is like no other. Usually I take an online class because it fits into my schedule better, but her class completely ruined that aspect. Assignments were due throughout the week, so if you're like me and work as well as go to school and you don't log on until Thursday or Friday, you might miss the due dates.
Really fun teacher. She'll keep you busy, but the class is very rewarding. She's helpful and responds quickly to e-mails. I'd recommend her to anyone.
WONDERFUL teacher, great class, perfectly enjoyable. Anyone who feel otherwise must suck at writing or have no interest in the course. She keeps things exciting, interesting, and downright fun. I would totally take her again.
Fun - great prof for starting out.
She knows her stuff and will make you work but beware that the online courses can sometimes be confusing in their set up. This class will take more than 20 hours a week to get a high grade!
A lot of work--and worth it. I got a lot out of this class and this instructor. My only regret is that I had to take the class online instead of in class. The online discussion board was lively at times, but I think in-class discussions might have pulled more out of us. I've registered for another class with Palazzo. That should tell you a lot.
A lot of work but worth it. She is a great instructor who knows her stuff.
Ann was an insightful, helpful, enjoyable teacher. i took her 252 class online and found it easy to navigate, and like we were given ample time to complete assignments. She is very quick to respond to questions (especially if you put the word 'question' in the subject of your email). The course material was interesting and engaging. great teacher.
Love her! She demands a lot from you; the work is more than I expected from a 3 credit class, but I don't mind being challenged. Ann was helpful and extremely friendly. BB was a little jumbled, but when mistakes were pointed out to her she fixed them right away and never resented the corrections. I can't wait to take another class with her!
I took two courses Creative Writing and Creative Nonfiction that she was teaching and she was excellent. I do admit you have to stay up on your assigments but overall, it was a great experience!
While this instructor has potential to be good, she is incredibly anal and inflexible on her deadlines of which are numerous. I took her for an elective writing fiction class because she was rated well, but the class was a serious pain, even though I love to write. She grades toughly and miss a deadline, you get zero credit. A TON OF READING!
I found her to be helpful, friendly, and very clear about assignments. She really is a great teacher, and as long as you do your work, you WILL get a good grade in this class. I found the amount of reading light actually. I found her to be extremely patient and fair when grading papers. When she gave me a suggestion, I found it constructive.
By far the best teacher and experience i've had at CSCC...feedback and comments are comprehensive and show a level of care and interest i've not experienced from any other instructor EVER. I had her for a throwaway class (the freshman experience) and was so impressed by how much she put into it. You WILL need to do your assignments/meet deadlines
I took her writing creative nonfiction class twice online. I would have preferred a classroom setting, but she worked hard to make the online experience as interactive (especially with other students) as possible. I visited her during office hours many times, and she is genuine, sincere, and kind of fun to talk with!
This teacher was helpful at times. A grace period is given however you cannot use it on your final paper. Thats what I was saving it for and she said I couldn't but then I let her know that it's not specified under the link so she had to let me use it. Also you need to check in both weekly work and the calendar, not all the due dates matched up.
Ann is a delight. She's clearly interested and invested in students. I've taken another of her classes (i found it harder than 281) and she has high expectations of her students and rewards them with high quality feedback and reviews of their work. Her classroom demeanor is clever and democratic.I would take another class of hers.
I took Writing Creative Non-Fiction and Writing Fiction with Ann and both classes were amazing. Yes, both required a lot of work but that's what I expect from college. I highly recommend both classes.
ann is wonderful. I would recommend taking her creative fiction course. I recieved so much feedback. All very helpful. I wish I could take it again.
I took Eng 2210 online with Ann and it was a disaster. The way the course was set up was confusing. I have taken many online courses previously, but this one was different. It wasn't easy to locate assignments and it was challenging to decipher what was due each week. Ann took a long time to grade papers. However, she did respond quickly to emails.
Ann did an exceptional job of teaching Creative Non-Fiction. I took the class looking for constructive feedback. Ann provided insightful tips to improve my writing. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to sharpen their writing skills.
Ann is a phenomenal instructor who truly makes online classes worthwhile. I was skeptical about taking a writing course online, but I have taken both her creative fiction and creative non-fiction and enjoyed them both! Obviously they were writing intensive, but Ann is always available via email for questions & clarification. I highly recommend her.
Ann teaches a phenomenal class. The assigned readings were actually interesting and the class discussion of them and critiques of student work were engaging and fun. Ann herself is very personable and fun to be with. My only complaint is how confusing our final work was. It was needlessly complicated to put together. But otherwise, she's awesome.
I do not think an online elective should require more than 8 hours a week of work.
I chose Professor Palazzo after reading reviews found on this site, and it was the right choice. Although this class was intense, and condensed due to the summer semester, it was also a very rewarding experience. Palazzo takes her job seriously, and is an outstanding teacher. This class is not an easy A. You will earn your grade and learn...
I may have enjoyed her class more if it wasn't online. She gives a bunch of feedback on assignments, but not all seems helpful.
Prof. Palazzo will read your work the way it deserves to be read: carefully, intelligently, and generously. She will work hard to understand what you want your work to be, and will give criticism to that end. She will take you and your writing seriously. This matters to her. And I can't give a professor higher praise than the preceding sentence.
Professor Palazzo is particular, but that is good in a composition professor. I personally dislike group discussion but I understand its utilization in an online class. The essay requirements are interesting and require a good amount of research. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and would highly recommend her as a professor.
Palazzo made the class that already seemed interesting and fun better. She is very easy to get along with, and very funny. 10/10 would take the class again.
Professor Palazzo was awesome. She gives her students the tools to succeed. If you put in the effort she will recognize it. She is very receptive to communication and gives good feedback. She returned 90% of my emails the same day. Topic choices for the papers have a good selection, because she wants you to be interested in your material.
Ann is an engaged and involved teacher, who is happy to offer guidance and feedback. She encourages and challenges her students, and is able to deliver honest, yet tactful assessments of your work. I highly recommend this professor to anyone who is seeking to grow as a writer. She's also funny and super nice.
I enjoyed this course very much! I enjoyed the writing project assignments and she was always helpful when I messaged her!
I have loved taking her classes. English 2268 - Creative Non-Fiction is the third class of hers that I have taken. She gives excellent feedback includes construction criticism that helps you to become a better writer. If you have any questions or concerns Professor Palazzo is quick to answer your questions. Engl. 2210 & 2265 are great classes.
She is very helpful and gives great feedback on all the papers. Her grading criteria is very clear. I took this class online, and we had discussion posts every week. Be prepared to spend some time to post as its worth 20% of grade. She is very organized and very quick to respond back. She makes the online class also very interacting.
I learned ALOT in Professor Palazzo class! Her feedback made me better writer/poet. I really mean that. She gives you pieces to read as well as visuals and audios. Whatever your learning style is this class is built for you. A little advice pay attention to the details. And don't wait till the last minute. Also DB are important!
For a non-intro level writing class, I cannot complain about the amount of writing I had to do. One of the best writing professors I've ever had. Extremely honest, yet extremely fair. Would for sure take again. If you don't like writing papers that are more than 2,000 words, then do not take this class.
I cant say enough good things about this professor. Its been years now, but I still find that Im using the things I learned in her classevery time I write. I remember enjoying her fun, informative and helpful lectures. Her classroom exercises also brought out the very best in her students. If you are in it to learn, this class is for you.
Terrible professor. Assigns large amounts of tedious works. No constructive feedback at all. Highly unapproachable and cold online. I spent 20+ hours a week on one one class doing the same work over and over. Lengthy assignments that are assessed according to her opinions not using an objective rating. Avoid her at all costs.
I adore Professor Palazzo. She is so kind and she really wants to see you progress. She gives ACTUAL feedback, and is a very fair grader.
Professor Palazzo truly wants you to succeed. She is quick to help with any questions, and gives REAL feedback. She's genuine and wants to see you do your best. I've taken her classes multiple times and plan to take many more! She's one of my favorite professors here.
I took her class online and spoke to her in-person once, but she is a wonderful professor. Very easy to talk to and understanding, and gives solid and helpful criticism of the many short stories you write. Sad I won't have a chance to take her again.
Her class was a lot of fun, but I would only recommend it if you're passionate about writing. Obviously, there's a lot of reading involved, but she does a good job picking interesting stories, and I felt like I really grew as a writer over the semester, so if you want to improve your writing, this is definitely the class for you.
She was nice enough but her feedback was minimal and so poorly written that it gave the impression that she barely read the papers in the first place. Even though she stated that there was no restrictions on subject for our poems/short stories, she did grade based on subject matter.
Ann was very detailed in her expectations of us as a class. She held us to a high standard, but the course was fun. Her discussion board posts also made the class feel more connected and helped me feel more like I was getting to know my classmates and their work.
I feel that her feedback was unnecessary. She assigns broad papers and then criticizes them because they are not what she wanted. She is lacking detail, making it a challenge to please her.
Discussion boards were all different so it kept it exciting instead of everyone doing the same exact thing. I really liked the event participation assignment. The feedback on writing assignments had the biggest impact.
I took her Creative Writing class, and I put in a lot of effort to try and get an A but she harshly graded my stories to the point that I don't find fair. She also doesn't give for precise feedback; it can be confusing and sets a line that seems impossible to reach. It's like you have to be a professional author to satisfy her and get an A.
I took the online creative writing class in the spring semester of 2020. While there was a fair amount of work required, such as analyzing stories, and writing a short story almost every week, doing the exercises and receiving feedback from her 100% helped me become a better writer. She even helped me get published for the first time.
Ann is overall a good teacher. The most important part of this class is the Student submissions, which is your original stories. If you're open minded and ready for constructive criticism, this class should be fun!
I took this class in the Spring Semester of 2021 but neglected to offer a review earlier in the year. Professor Palazzo is a fine English professor who puts the effort into recording lectures for an English class (a rarity in these times). Her feedback is universally excellent and she's quite knowledgeable about the subject matter.
Professor Palazzo was a great English professor, her writing course one of my favorites Ive ever taken. She gives excellent feedback. One of the few truly good, accessible classes that Ive taken online during the pandemic. Very knowledgeable and helpful! This class improved my prose writing immensely.
Professor Palazzo is incredible. I would take any class taught by her! She gives great feedback and is always available. She definitely pushes you as a writer but meets you at your level. Be prepared to read your classmates work and critique it as that is a chunk of your grade. 10/10 though. I had a lot of fun in her class.
Professor Palazzo is an exceptional teacher. She encourages students to think progressively and creatively when writing, and Professor Palazzo always made sure that her criticism of her students work was constructive, to help them do better in the future. She was also always available to answer any questions. A very phenomenal teacher.
Professor Ann Palazzo is amazing! The class I took was food themed, which made it interesting. With it being an online class, it was mostly student led. She gives great feedback on essay drafts. She is also very caring and understanding. You just have to communicate. I loved her as a professor!
Graded very harshly and offered little helpful feedback but would get on our cases if she didn't feel we put enough effort into peer feedback. If you do not enjoy discussion board posts, steer clear. There are discussion board every week and sometimes multiple times a week.
Very well-organized online class. Easy to navigate, weekly announcements/updates. Thorough grading: she highlighted, noted, and encouraged me often. Follow instructions for assignments and give honest peer feedback in the discussion posts and you'll ace this class.
This was a very fun class with fun reading materials. Each week consisted of reading one or sometimes more stories with a writing assignment as well. Eventually, we would write our own articles similar to the ones read. The writings are mostly about what YOU want to write. Her grading was very thorough and gave good feedback for improvements.
Professor Palazzo wants you to succeed. The class is centered around food, so be ready to write essays about that. She is a difficult grader so if you tend to overlook the rubric and grading criteria, you might have a difficult time in this class.
She was very hands on and gave detailed feedback on all of my submitted assignments. Due dates were different than any other class I've taken before, and the amount of DB posts were hard to keep track of sometimes. There's a required event participation assignment, where you participate in some kind of public forum to share your work.
