Got a lot out of this class. My friend recommended her & it's true you have to be there and do the papers in time but I found her clear cut & easy to understand. She has high expectations but I already knew that going in.

In the beginning of the semester I was scared of her. She would pick favorites and would grade tough. However, after I got to know her personally I realized shes not that bad. She wants you to pass, but she wants you to work for it. She is a tough grader, but you learn to write clearly. If you come to her for help, she will help you A LOT.

I am glad I took Shillinglaw because it is clear that she puts a lot of work into her teaching. She got my papers back a lot faster than my past teachers & I learned double what I got out of earlier COM class experiences. But if you want to be lazy or you need to miss class, you could even get a D or F, so take her only if you can do the work.

good teacher I liked her, very matter of fact way of teaching. It's always writing papers but that is the class. Earlier commenter who said this class kept him or her up at night and Prof does not respect students is not right/who stays up at night thinking about just an English class????? Don't worry, its work but not bad at all.

This was a difficult class but this teacher knew just the right mix of readings and class discussion. I find Shillinglaw to be a talented and energetic teacher. I learned a lot & liked her teaching style. Serious students should take her, but if you hope to float through, take an easier class.

She's a good teacher and will help you as a writer. She wants everyone to pass but they need to put the work in, which isn't that much. I'd take her again.

Good old school kind of teacher who takes it seriously. Handled one kid who would not stop interrupting with questions with too much patience. I wouldvekicked him out of class right away! Despite annoying childish students which happens a lot at this college, she seems able to deal with it. I got a B and worked for it. Not easy class!!

Professor Shillinglaw is strict when it comes to attendance. If you are just 1 minute late to her class, you are marked tardy and cant miss more than 8. If a paper is due and you are 1 minute late to class, your essay will go down a whole letter grade. She also doesn't use canvas and you have to ask her for your grade. If you show up, it isnt bad

Shillinglaw is pretty straight forward in what she asks for and will give. Online course is easy. It's not the amount time you put into the class, it's the work you produce. Some interesting assignments. She does deduct points for writing quality. She is a fair grader though. There will be weekly discussions and assignments. Easy A/ work.

I had her in com 102. She's stricted when it comes to attendance. Always organized and uses her time wisely in class. There's homework every class most of the time and all the hmwk is from the book. We had 4 essays and always did group and class discussions. She wants you to try your hardest and always helps you. Assignment must be turned on time.

You're going to work for it. Ive never heard of a student getting a good grade from this professor without working at it. If someone says Prof Shillinglaw is an easy grader, do not believe them. But she is fair and makes the class interesting. I ended up really liking the class but if you are not serious about it you might not pass.

If you're looking for a composition class to just breeze through then DO NOT take this professor. Ms. Shillinglaw is strict when it comes to attendance and punctuality but other than that she's a good choice- especially if you truly want to be prepared for university writing. Very passionate and disciplined about composition. If you're serious, go!

I took this literature course online and really enjoyed it. The deadlines are firm, the grades come in regularly every week, and she doesn't bog you down with unnecessary comments or complications. She is very straight-forward and easy to understand and keeps to the same format each week, which I liked.

If you want an easy A this is not the class to take. Professor Shillinglaw makes you work for your grade. She does this to prepare you for the rest of your college career. I hated going to her class, but at the end of the semester I appreciated what she did for us. You will get an A as long as you follow her instructions & DON'T BE LATE FOR CLASS!!

The book is super important for this class, you're going to do a lot around the chapters which are all going to be on the quizzes, so be sure to be there for the stuff we did in class. She never misses a class from what I can tell so plan on being there as much as you can. Interesting subjects, tv, radio, music. and it goes fast.

Some interesting readings and the deadlines stay the same, which is not as confusing as another online I took where the deadlines always changed and you had to log in a different times. Excellent online class! Lots of interesting readings. Everything you need is right there in the class, so if you are an adult learner and know how to follow directions, youll do well in her class. She makes it all very clear. Don't skip any weeks.

She is challenging and awesome, but only for people who understand how to take online classes. If you are slow and need tons of special help, you might not pass. The stupid students usually dont make it. You can tell in the Discussion when students cant write st all. But if you are smart, this class is pretty basic and I liked it.

Shillinglaw Is great! She doesnt baby you and if you cant get the work done on time, you could fail. She explains all this at the start of the semester, all up front. If you run late, dont take her class. If you are able to meet deadlines I learned a lot! Highly recommend.

Awesome teacher! Some students who aren't used to college level work seem to have a hard time, so if your looking for high shool maybe find an easy teacher that doesn't care as much. But if you plan on going on in college, this is the best teacher to take. She brought my writing to a totally different level!!

For an online class this had a really regular schedule which I liked a lot. I took another lass once where the teacher kept popping up new assignments, but that never happens here. She gives you lots of time to do the work. It is all there in the online course. You do not even need to buy a book which was great.

I took her online class and really enjoyed it because there are no pop up surprise Assignments like other teachers do. She gives you a couple of weeks to get the stuff done and you do NOT have to buy a book which I really liked! If you don't do the work, you fail out, so only take this class online if you can take it seriously. I liked it alot.

This is one of the best professors I had at the college. She takes it seriously really interesting class. I totally recommend this teacher but only if you are willing to work hard. Losers will fail out because this teacher really is on point

I really like this teacher in the way she teaches the class. You have to show up on time do the work and pay attention. If you are not up for that then you need to not be in her class because only students who are really college students are going to pass this class, ha ha. I loved it.

I took this class online and its was great! The deadlines were the same every week and the things we read were interesting. There is no need to email the professor since it is all there in the class, so if you need lots of extra help you might do better with a teacher who likes to babysit kids. I keep taking online classes and took her for COM102. It was great, didn't have to buy any books and she grades your homework every week. If you miss doing the work you will fail, from what I an tell so don't take it if you are expecting it to be easy. It was an interesting class.

She is a really good teacher but some of the students in class do no work and then suddenly realize they are failing and drop out like flies. Its kind of weird, like they never listen to what she says then realize its college & their time is up. Losers hate this teacher but good students always recommend her. I recommend highly for smart students!

I took her for COM102, so I also took JRN101 and think she is a good teacher. She is very matter of fact and tells you the rules up front. The big book we used is expensive but you'll use it every week so it is a must. If you miss too much class you will fail but this was just the kind of class I needed. Expect to work hard.

I took the online Com 102 class last semester and i thought the homework she gave was very educational and interesting. This class is worth taking as the work load is fair and this professor gives useful feedback! I really enjoyed this class, definitively worth taking.

Shillinglaw really cares about her students. I took her class last fall and am so glad I did. But if you dont want to work very hard then you need to try to find a teacher who really doesnt care as much. She will make you work!

She grades everything within a week of doing it and honestly, she is not that hard a grader. Do the work ontime and dont make writing errors. No book required which was a bonus.

She counts if you show up late or skip class so if you are that kind of person take another professor. The other students will thank you. But if you like to write enough and can show up on time like a real person I highly recommend her! You will work for the grade but learn a ton. Am happy I took it.

For an online class this was a lot of work some weeks and then not too bad other weeks. She grades pretty fairly and if you meet the deadlines you should be able to pass.

Once you get used to the way the class goes it is fairly simple to do. But the papers are not that easy.

The assignments are sometimes pretty lengthy and there is a discussion post each week. If youre well organized, this class will be a breeze. this is NOT a blow off class, you need to dedicate a lot of time to it! Shillinglaw also takes a while to respond to emails and she sounds as if she doesnt want to respond to her students (comes off rude)

Really loved Prof Shillinglaw! I learned so much from her. Youll work hard but so worth it. But if you are looking for an easy class its not this one. I would take her again in a minute!

Online COM102 was interesting. You do not have to buy a book. It is all in the class so that saved money. She grades fairly and made it interesting.

Professor Shillinglaw was honestly a great professor. If you don't struggle with writing papers I would definitely recommend her. This course obviously requires a lot of papers; however, I didn't think that she was a very hard grader. Her feedback on your outlines are great and will help you better your final paper.

I have always been interestedin writers from Mexico and other countries so I did like this class. There is a LOT of writing being an online class. There aren't many classes about Latin America so I was glad to take it but be prepared to write a lot. Deadlines do not budge.

I took this class while we had to transition to online classes due to COVID. She was just as clear as she was in person prior to the change. She grades based exactly off what she asks. Her work is was never unnecessary and she actually provided the textbook for the class. Just do the work and you will actually see that she is GREAT!!!

I took her during the semester that we got hit with COVID and she was great in the transition. She is not a tough grader, she simply expects you to follow the prompt and if you do that, there is no reason to get anything lower than a C. Your quality of work will also matter, not just her expectations. If you are willing to learn and work, TAKE HER!

I wish this course would also be offered in Spanish but it was still engaging!!! I had read many of the material before taking this course and she really gets you thinking and analyzing. It is set up in a clear manner so there is no confusion in that area. Just do the work that is expected and you will be fine!

Class wasnt an easy A for sure, but if you put in the work she will reward you. She often gave me extra credit on my assignments. The online rules are pretty easy to follow and she gets the grading done within a week. I found this class very easy to navigate. But you have to do the work for sure!

This class is somewhat but really not that hard. You have to read the book chapters and then answer the questions. No big papers or huge projects which is a relief honestly. But it is a lot of reading the pages and answering questions correctly. It is every week so you have to really do the work or you would not earn a passable grade.

She's a lovely professor. She gives in-depth critique for papers and assignments, and grades fairly. Reading material is provided, and if there is a need to purchase books it is usually not expensive. As long as you try your best, and turn in work on time, this class should not be any trouble. This was not the hardest class I ever took but it also was not the easiest by far. The book is required and lots of the homework assignments are based around the book. It has interesting things about the media.

For an online class it fit my expectations. I had to work with a tutor on the last papers because English is not my first language. If she tells you in the comments that you are better off working with a tutor you should do it, because it made a difference for me. I got through it fine.

The textbook gets a little hard to follow at times, but as an online class this one was really pretty easy. You have to do the work every week since there are no makeup work homeworks. I enjoyed the papers especially the Music paper.

She was amazing, and made sure that material was well understood by students. She maintained a perfect balance between strict and caring for her students, I am very thankful for the time I spent in her class.

We read interesting stories and poems. The questions she asks you to answer made me think a lot. Be prepared to read each week and don't try AI on this teacher or she'll know you are faking it. I tried it once and I got a zero. Did not try it again. She reads everything you write unlike other teachers I've had.

Having taken her online COM102 this semester I have to say that if you know how to meet deadlines and you can read a syllabus it is a pretty typical class in terms of how hard or easy it was.She doesn't play favorites so if you want her to move a deadline for you it won't happen. Went by fast!

Overall Shillinglaw is a great professor gives good feedback and only 2 of the 3 classes per week are mandatory. I personally wouldn't take her but thats not because shes bad. Expect homework everyday which for a writing class is just crazy. To much busy work unless writing is your major take somebody who wont make you stress over a non-major class

This was a fun class. Any class that talks about film, favorite books, tv and music is a lot more interesting than most classes. Everything is so easy to follow. Nothing is hidden and nothing is difficult. You do have to use the book for a lot of the assignments and forums, but I found the book was not a problem, half of it is pictures.

No one is going to call this class easy.But it's got interesting things to read, she grades the homework before the end of the next week and I liked her regular comments.She is nice. If English is hard you should take an easier teacher. Dont try using AI!!! She will notice and find all the things wrong with it trust me on this.

I wasn't planning on taking latin american literaure but when I saw it listed I decided to see what it was like. I really enjoyed it The stories are not what you would expect. You have to do the work each week in order to pass. Which can time more time than you think.But it's not a lot.

There are Assignments and Forums every week and 4 papers, pretty standard. She does the grading quicker than some other teachers and doesn't let anything slide.I needed a class that made me do the work and I surprised myself.

I took COM102 with her in person. Her schedule was Monday and Wedensdays were attendance taken but Fridays attendance was not taken. She said she was trying this out so no idea if she's going to keep that plan going. But it made for a good mixture for me. There is no possibility of using AI to write your papers. We wrote in class a lot.

The textbook is important for passing the class. Nearly all the Assignments and discussions are drawn from it. But I liked the professor and it covered some interesting things.

Her Latin American Literature class really opened my eyes. I feel like I got 2 classes worth in one class. But being online you have to read stories and poems every week without a break and turn your answers in on time.

There is homework every week. Business Tech Writing sounds harder than it really is. This class is not too hard if you do the work.

I took Professor Shillinglaw for online COM 102. She would post 3 assignments per week which included lots of reading. If you keep up it's not that hard but it requires a lot of time. The essays are kind of hard since you have to analyzing stories which usually are 15+ pages. Overall, not too bad

I'm not going to rate this professor's class as easy, but I learned a lot. If you show up and do the homework and contribute your opinions in class you will learn a lot.

This class is managable if you do the assignments and discussion forums every week without missing any. I thought the readings were interesting and she definitely catches people who try to have chatgpt write for them.Those people drop by the wayside pretty quick. I wrote everything myself. By the end was even enjoying it.

can be a very informative class if you are actually willing to participate and learn gives out extra credits fairly generously and i was able to get an A even without doing the final exam HOWEVER I spent an ungodly amount of time for this course but i did feel like my writing skills improved nonetheless, it won't be an easy A, you have to work HARD

I totally recomend taking Professor Shillinglaw for Business Writing. There was no textbook which was great and the assignments were really not that difficult. She grades them pretty quickly and grades fairly.

It took a lot of time and effort but I learned a lot about business writing. Good class and no textbook required. I recommend if you're planning to major in business and need transfer credits.

I learnd so much in this class! You have to do the readings every week and always do the work or else the points get lost before you know it. But if you are a serious student and don't try to cheat you will get along fine. I liked this class.

I'm giving this a 5 regarding difficulty because I honestly worked harder in this class than my other online classes.Unless you do the work each week you can fall behind and she doesnt' give late work points. But this class really did help my writing. I'm less intimidated by writing essays now and it's a lot of practice for writing papers.

Attendance is mandatory even though this is an online class.If you do the work and pay attention to feedback on your paper outlines you should be fine.She gives detailed feedback for the outlines which I found helpful. But if writing isn't your strong suit you will have to work for it.

This class went by fast. I enjoyed it.

This was my most difficult class last semester. She has a very clear view of how she wants her assignments done, but she makes it known to the student as well. This isn't a class to take shortcuts in, but I felt like I learned a lot from Prof Shillinglaw. She made me better at understanding literature and writing papers.

This class didn't have too much reading, not a huge reading load and I learned a lot.

This was a good class if you plan to go into business. There is no book to buy and the modules really do cover a lot. I even worked on a better resume in this class.

Professor Shillinglaw is an amazing teacher! I really learned how to become a more precise and thoughtful writer by following her instructions in class and handouts. I am an older student and just returning to academic writing after a while so the handouts helped. If you put in low effort, don't expect an easy A.

Her class has a heavy workload, be aware she doesn't accept anything late, and if you already struggle with writing, you will have to work hard in this class. Besides that, stick to the outlines and you should be fine. Her feedback is helpful and definitely improved my writing.

I took this online over the summer. Ive had harder classes and I've had easier classes so I would say this is somewhere in the center. She grades steadily all the time and the class is easy to follow, no quizzes and no tests, just papers assignments and the forums that you have to complete.

I learned a lot but I am rating Professor Shillinglaw as on the difficult side because you're not able to redo the papers. So if you mess up on one, that grade stands. I'm writing better after taking this class and I liked the way the online class was organized.

No textbooks, everything you need is in the canvas class. Professor Shillinglaw definitely knows her writing and is an excellent grader. If you try to use AI its not going to work. I know friends who have failed this class because they submitted AI papers and she can tell. I did all the work and learned a lot.

Excellent teacher, grades the Assignments and papers quicker than most. I have now taken two differnt online classes with Professor Shillinglaw and did well with both of them but be advised there is no extra credit, redoing your paper or late work.

I really enjoyed the readings. The professor definitely helps you up your game.If you are looking for an easy way to get this requirement out of the way you might want to find a teacher who is easier.For me, I really like to read and had a good time with this class! Highly recommend!!

The class is more on the difficult side but I liked it and learned a lot. I'm graduating this semester and took her class last spring and it has already been helping me write better in my other classes.

Great class. It's alot of work each week but worth it. Listen to her advice when she gives comments .

I still think about the stories we read in this class. Good class.

There is no extra credit and if you miss deadlines there is no going back. But she is a fair grader and you can tell she means well. It's just that I am rating it very difficult because her standards are higher than some teachers are.

Took Shillinglaw for Business Writing last semester and definitely learned alot from her online class. It's alot of writing. But each week it was something different which was nice.

Prof. Shillinglaw's class is not for someone who isn't going to put in the work. Attendance is mandatory, BE ON TIME. However, she is very knowledgable when it comes to the material. My writing has improved tremendously because of her feedback. Don't take this class if you are soft, but she will definitely make you prepared for the real world.

I took COM102 online.When she says not to use AI take her at her word because it is true. I got better with my writing over the course of the semester. The writing practice was really helpful. The readings were mostly interesting.

For me, if you do the work each Module and don't skip, its not a very difficult class. There is alot of writing and she finds if you did not proofread.

I wish she taught more online classes because it was really easy to follow her Canvas class. No pop up quizzes or tests. It's got the same deadline every week unlike some other online classes I've taken with different deadlines here and there. But the classwork take a lot of effort, imo.

Professor Shillinglaw is awesome. If you do the work you will learn a lot.

She is very to the point & businesslike. I definitely learned a lot. Not the easiest class but she's very helpful when you ask questions.

This business writing class was required for the degree I want and not too difficult.

If you're used to teachers who let you slide by cheating you will not pass her class. I know someone else in the class who boasted about using AI and they had to drop the class for failing. I got by fine because I like writing! Good class

Good business writing class. I'm not a regular Moraine Valley student but am taking this class because its so much cheaper. It transfers in. Am learning how to do lots of different business writings.

Safe to say you should take Prof Shillinglaw if you want a class with purpose.

Logical Business Writing class. Don't miss any of the assignments or forums because the forums definitely matter in this class.

Excellent class, excellent teacher . If you are interested in learning I really recommend! But if you cheat you will fail for sure. She knows.

Professor Shillinglaw knows her stuff. I rate this is a difficult class so make sure you put in the effort. But worth it.

Loved this teacher. Everything is graded within a week which is twice as fast as my earlier teacher. Awesome!

Honestly this class is not very difficult if you plan to major in business. One of the best teachers I've had.

Good class for business writing. Not that difficult except for the writing has to be good.

Has HARD due dates with no extensions or excuses. She expects you to write like a college student, but she is very fair. Her feedback is EXCELLENT. Take your essay outlines SERIOUSLY. If your outline looks like it will lose points she will tell you. Then you can fix it on your actual essay. If you are transferring to a 4 year you should take her!

It was a lot of work but in the end it made me a better writer!

If you dont miss the deadlines you should be okay and she offered interesting feedback on my resume and cover letter that I hadn't thought of before.

She is nice. She tries to make the schedule nicer by making attendance not required on Friday classes but you need to be there on Monday & Wednesday. It went by fast.

Good class. Everything you read is in the Canvas class so I didn't have to spend money on books which was a good thing. This class goes by fast. Make sure you don't miss the forums each time.

I loved this class. Professor Shillinglaw expects your best so I probably worked twice as hard in her class than in my COM101 but it was worth it. If you are ready to work you will like her class. if you are looking for an easy class, this won't be it.

Since i don't do well with online classes I took her Monday Wednesday Friday and it went by so fast, I couldn't believe it. She's a nice person but you can't miss class too much or show up once the class starts so be aware of that. I totally recommend her class.

I liked this class. I feel like writing is easier for me now. Definitely a good and rigorous class. If you are looking for something super easy this won't be it.

Shillinglaw is tough but good. Do the readings, figure out the essay prompts, pay attention and you should be find.

I was so glad we didn't do group projects like in my other business class. You get to work on your own the whole time but you have to meet the deadlines. Her feedback comments were helpful.

She is very clear about her expectations on assignments. If you actually read and follow directions you should do fine in the class. She gives good feedback on essay outlines and makes it very clear what you need to change in order to receive a good grade on an essay.

I learned a lot. You have to get everything done each week but if you do you should be able to pass. Her comments were helpful. But getting an A is nearly impossible.

I don't understand all of the negative's ratings. She gives feedback on outlines that helps with your final essay, and she is a fair grader. If you follow instructions, you will get a good grade. Even though she is strict with not accepting late work, she gives plenty of time for assignments so that should not be an issue unless you procrastinate.

Professor Shillinglaw can tell when you havent read the stories and essays and she means it when she says you will not pass if you don't write the papers yourself. She grades every week and it is not a difficult class in my opinion.

I got great feedback on my business plan and have been learning more about business writing than I thought. I would take this teacher again.

All you need is the reading packet you buy at the bookstore. No textbook required.

COM 201 was not a bad class. We had a variety of work that was due weekly at 9pm on Saturdays. Which included 1 weekly assignment and 1 discussion board. Professor Shillinglaw can be a little harsh when grading. I would suggest proofreading very precisely, and making sure everything makes sense. She will take many points off hw if not clear enough.

Attendance and participation matter a lot so plan on being in class if you want to pass. She's a nice lady and adds a lot to the discussions. The stories we read were not that hard to understand but being in class for the discussions about them is important.
