I did horrible in this class. Maybe it was just becase it was my first semester of college but I don't know. I thought it was pretty tough.
she likes good attendance and dont get on her bad side. alot of busy work, but not that hard
No Comments
It was hard because I had to go to class and read the book and do a project.
Cool prof. Easy and interesting class. Should be an easy A.
She does not take attendance though she does give lots of reading homework and give POP quizzes like every other day. Her tests are pretty hard but the class is very enjoyable... just go to class and take notes...it wont be a breeze but
as long as you keep up with the reading, you'll be fine. the lectures are good reviews for the reading. go to class because she gives millions of pop quizzes. but she is very kind and will definately help you if you are trying.
Good professor and interesting class. Definitely one of the better class to take if fullfilling a social science credit. Her class has a few tests, a few in class essays that you can bring in note fore and a few papers. Not bad at all.
Extremely interesting lectures, very fair at grading, expects you to attend class, cares about her students, made sociology interesting for me, if you have to take a course in Sociology, take her
Stein is awesome. Her class is interesting, and it really isn't that much work. Also, I found her tests quite simple. Do the work, and it's an easy A.
The class is sooo boring!
She is very open minded about the material students bring to class. Her lectures are interesting. She does give a lot projects but they are not that difficult although her tests are pretty challenging. A lot of reading as well.
Stein was a very good teacher. Her tests come straight from the reading and notes. She gives 3 projects in the class, but none are difficult at all. She has a very open mind and makes the material interesting. I would take her again.
I hated going to this class. All we had to do was read for each class but it was a lot, few projects, not too bad.. but the test were a little more difficult that expected. Very helpful though
Very nice and intelligent professor. she is always very helpful. No attendance policy. have to read a lot but it is very interesting and challenging. Tests are a little difficult. If you do your readings and study a little everyday you should do fine.
This class was the worst!! It was extremely boring and a lot of reading!! We had quizzes pretty much every day!! If you are looking for an easy A, do not take her!!
Great professor, quite demanding but if you keep up with the readings, you will do just fine. She makes the subject real. Take her if you can.
Ann Stein is the coolest woman at the college. Her tests aren't a breeze and you need to study, but she's witty and makes classes fun and interesting with her examples. Even if Sociology isn't your favorite class, she will be your favorite professor.
I hated this class. It was so boring and had a lot of boring reading- I was very interested in sociology before this class. I took it for 2 years in high school and it was so much better- take another teacher
I HATED this class! if you're looking for an easy A do not take her class! there's a ton of boring reading and quizzes nearly everyday!
ANN STEIN ROCKS MY WORLD. Although her class is hard and her tests are not easy, your papers and attendance help to bring up your grade. You will have 1 oral presentation and the presentations are really intersting compared to her lectures.
I hated this class and this woman....it is a living hell to go to. If you want to take a class where you have a quiz every day and try to fight to stay awake in class then take her.
She isn't much help when you need it.
She is the most intellingent professor ever. Her class is demanding but she brings the subject in an interesting way. Tests are pretty hard and she is not an easy grader on them but she is a very easy grader for the papers. Take her class.
The amount of course work for this class (entry-level) was ridiculous. Tests are designed for no perfect grades, daily quizzes suck, and not an easy A at all. PICKY GRADER and not much discussion for a sciology class. avoid if possible!
Overall a good professor. She did require a lot of work for a 101 class but I learned a lot. She always connected what we learned to real life. She may seem intimidating soemtimes but she really is helpful if you make an effort.
I enjoyed her class, it was hard, but honest. She is a very smart person and you will learn a lot if you study.
Too much work for too boring of a class. Her tests are easy if you go to class everyday and study the night before... but the essays you have to read and write are too much! and her 'points' system is stupid!
Tests are hard; she's very picky on grading them, but she is leniant on grading all other papers you hand in. There's a lot of reading involved and just a lot of material in all. Not an easy class, but not terribly hard either.
You have to read a lot (of course) and the tests are pretty hard. It wasn't my favorite class but it wasn't bad. she will teach you a lot but you have to listen to her very closely to do well on her tests. taking notes can be difficult b/c she doesn't write much on the board.
Notes scrambled on the board...impossible to follow...tests are very hard, but there are hw's and projects to help pull them up. She was a cool lady, just really have to know your stuff and keep up with it. Getting behind=failing!!
This lady is the spawn of satan. A tape recording of her talking could be sold to insomniacs and make millions. She is very unclear with her lectures, and was of absolutly no help outside the classroom. Do not take her class, its a waste of time and effort.
there is lots of reading/homework every nite and 3 papers. if you take good notes and read, you will be fine. tests arent too bad if you study, but there are lots of grades besides tests that can help bring up your grades if you need them.
Dr. Stein is the best, she is very clear in her lectures and if you take notes, you will have no problem with the tests, she allows extra credit if you get behind and will help you if you go to her office and talk to her. Take her if you can
She is a very nice lady to learn from and is clear when she is lecturing. But when It comes to her tests, I just was confused and could not figure out what was going on with them. Mult. choice/essay/shrt. answr. but different from stuff in class a bit. Also 2 major papers and 5 small papers.
AWFUL TEACHER! She grades very tough and it is very hard to get an A. Her test are very difficult and all the essays that you have to write are horrible. Stay away!
lots and lots of notes and stuff to read.annoying essay reviews.tests have MC, short answer, and a couple essay questions.shes a hard grader.shes a lady with an attitude, and can sometimes come off as rude.class is really boring.she talks so fast.didnt enjoy it at all.
Tests are hard, lots of notes, and VERY unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Dr. Stein is the best. If you listen in class and take good notes, her tests are quite easy but very comprehensive so you have to study hard. She is very helpful if you do not understand something so ask if you do not understand what she is lecturing on.
Great teacher. Very helpful IF you seek her out. Organized lectures. No attendance-BUT inclass work that counts towards grade. tests MC,fill in,comprehensive essay. Must actually understand, not just regurgitate terms. papers easy. fun class + if she knows you're interested+you work, you'll get an A. Smart+nice woman. Great teacher+class. Take her!
EXTREMELY EASY!!! Her tests come straight from her notes, so you gotta be in class....but she is really boring. Super nice though!
This lady is so hard to receive a good grade from. Her tests are too long and are hard to study for considering there are a million notes to look over. She is too boring. Don't get stuck in one of her classes!
She is a really sweet lady, a little lazy on grading, never very specific on why you got what you did. Let's you know all of the assignments the first week of class. All around good class!
Her test were long, i always finished them but barely. Make sure you attend class, i missed one and it killed me because all the notes are straight from the lectures. Go to her for help with the one page papers...shes a awesome lady and will help you alot if needed.

NOT easy A,impossible A.Lots of material on tests.Papers not too bad,no homework. Take very detailed notes in class but she doesnt specify what to write so pay attention.Smartass but decent sense of humor.READ articles, essays, and chpters and you should do ok. Dont procrasinate b4 test=2 much material. Ok class but not fun and interesting or easy A.
She lectures most of class..Her notes are really unclear and the material is very different on the test than what she says..I did not like her..She makes students teach in pairs to the class after she assigns readings to them..Lots of reading!
she is extremely knowledgeable and helpful if you visit her office hours. no attendance policy but dont miss class because she goes over a lot of information. TAKE NOTES and do the reading and its not hard to get a good grade
students did most of the teaching...lectures are directly from the book. a few in class films, student presentations, and papers... tests are long
Very good and effective teacher. Inspired me to choose Sociology as my major. She taught in a very interesting and clear way. She also grades fairly and has no attendence policy but you really need to be there. Trust me skipping destroyed my grade because i was left unaware of upcoming assignments, ect. I really feel she's an excellent teacher.
Terrible class! Lectures are extremely boring and the tests are completely different than what she teaches. There is way too much reading and an awful group project to do. I would not suggest taking this class.
This lady is terrible!! She has the natural talent of taking a very intersting subject and making it as boring as possible. You have 3 books which you must read from EVERY night. Tests are extremely difficult.
Doesn't take roll, but it is somewhat beneficial to show up. However, a lot of stuff on the tests are from the book, so make sure you read. Lots of assignments so it's easy to make an A or B in the class. I really liked her, made me consider sociology as a major.
Fun class. The facts you learn are pretty cool. Make sure to read before going to class. And make sure to read the article before class or you'll be lost in the presentations. And make sure to pay attention to presentations because there will be a few questions on the tests. We had 6 journal questions which were pretty easy. Only about 4 papers.
Professor Stein really wants you to understand the material and she enjoys teaching it. That said, to learn anything meaningful and to get a good grade you MUST do the reading because the tests and quizzes are primarily based off of the reading. The text book reading is boring, but the articles you will read are interesting. I enjoyed this class.
She is the worst professor i have had all year. Besides her crazy and incomprehensible teaching she is rude to some students. I regret taking this class!!
She was the worst teacher I have ever had. She did not help the student at all and is just very difficult for no reason. She does not know how to used the equipment and is just the worst professor I have ever had.
She's a good professor. Although she can be somewhat monotone at points she brings up interesting facts and recent news into the class. Her tests are pretty hard since she has a weird format, but she gives alot of other assignments that helps with your grade. Overall, she is really a nice teacher and she will help you if you just seek her out.
she teaches just about everything you need to know, pay attention and you will do really well. grades are based on a few easy assignments and tests. but she made the class interesting if you don't mind lecturing the entire class. she is great for SOCIO 101
Great professor. I didn't know a thing about sociology, but I loved it so much I am taking it next semester again. Although she isn't easy, she's not hard and explains everything very clearly. Her tests are a little tricky but she gives extra credit. A few papers but they are very short and easy. Must attend class bc she talks of things not in book
Not a hard class, but fairly difficult for a 101 class. She makes it fun, but her test are difficult. Overall, a typical class.
She is an awesome teacher! I had her last semester and I loved her. You can do really well in the class if you just read the articles and come to class regularly. Don't bother reading the book because the tests are based on her lectures. She can be terse sometimes, but I don't think she means any harm by it. You will learn a lot and have fun!
Prof Stein was an excellent teacher! She assigns plenty of reading, and even though attendance is optional, the tests are already difficult, and much more so if you don't take notes on her lectures. She can be a bit prickly but really helpful outside of the classroom and overall, I had a great experience. A++ teacher, but she will challenge you
Stein is amazing! she's a great teacher and the class is so easy if you take notes and read. the tests arent hard if you took good notes and the papers are so simple and pretty much free writes with no structure, she grades super easy and I want to major in sociology after taking her class.no midterm/final,3 papers, and journals are easy. TAKE HER
Professor Stein was awesome! 3 papers and 3 tests + a final. Tests are based both on lecture and text! However, tests were hard if you don't study!!! Papers were very straightforward and easy! Definitely a harder intro course, but worth taking!
I really enjoy professor Stein, enough that I might minor in Crime, Law, and Society after her class. Attendance is important because of small reading quizzes and also b/c she provides additional info that is not on her power points. You should have no problem getting an A if you do all of the readings and all of the assignments on time.
she teaches solely through listening, her slides aren't helpful, and her tests are extremely irrelevant to what she teaches, she is also extremely rude to her students and her feedback on assignments are rude and unhelpful.
She's so-so. Some days she would be nice, others she would be mean. Her lectures are boring, she kind of makes the subject boring in that way. Her tests are somewhat related to the material we go over in class.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. She genuinely cares about you especially if you show interest. Talk to her about class & let her know that you enjoy it. It's a really interesting class. You will have to read and DO THE STUDY GUIDES! They are so helpful! She even emailed other soci profs for me to ask them about further classes-awesome!
Stein's sociology class wasn't too hard. I ended up finishing with a 'B' average. Teaches straight from her powerpointslides. Gives helpful study guides preparing you for her tests. Probably wouldn't take her again as the class was a bit dry.. but she is a nice lady willing to help.
She is just an okay professor. I wouldnt take her again. All she does is talk to you all semester. She is pretty boring and I pretty hard grader. Tests aren't bad. I would take her only if you have to but if you do, you'll be fine.
Loved Professor Stein. She really cares about her students and if you want help, she is more than willing to give it to you. Her lectures can be boring at times but the material is extremely interesting. She doesn't take attendance but you HAVE to read the assigned reading to pass.
Prof. Stein was okay. She pretty much justs talks the whole class period; her slides are vague and so you really have to listen to her. And she talks fast so hard to keep up sometimes. Tests are pretty tough, some stuff she didn't touch on. READ THE ARTICLES ON OAKS. She asks specific ?s on those. I've had worse professors, but I've also had better
Professor Stein is a great professor. She just expects you to do the readings and other assignments, before each class. Readings are very important. She also gives a lot of assignments, so your grade isn't based on a couple test and a final. Oh, and THE FINAL IS NOT CUMULATIVE! So, she's pretty much a saint.
If you do the work, you'll do well. She assigns a lot of reading but goes over a lot of it in class, I'd recommend to read at least 50% of what she assigns. Her directions for papers and open-ended test questions are extremely straight forward. Her teaching style is very direct but she's helpful if you ask questions and wants you to do well.
She was my internship professor so she didn't actually teach me, but she oversaw my internship. You have weekly responses and journals, but as long as you make them detailed and follow directions, you'll do fine. Very nice woman!
Stein is a good professor and really cares about the subjects she teaches. The only thing is her test. They're pretty difficult since there's about twenty questions that are fill in the blank from any of the readings or info from the group presentations. Do well on her other projects and little papers and you'll be fine.
Prof. Stein is a no-nonsense kind of woman. She's brilliant, and a sassy lil thing! You MUST do all the readings. Use the study guides she gives for the tests. Be prepared to speak up in class; it definitely gives you favor in her eyes. You will get back what you put in for this class. If you put in the time, you will do well. It's not an easy A.
Stein is a nice person, but not the best professor. Tests are pretty difficult, but if you do the readings (which are a lot) and pay attention in class you will do fine, just make sure you are not just memorizing the material, but also know how to apply it. Gives a lot of extra work to boost your grade if tests are bad.
I took this class because I needed the credit and was somewhat interested in the INTRO course. This course was way harder than it needed to be and there are multiple short answer exams with essay questions, 2 papers, and five different reading responses. I failed every test and she grades way too harshly!
A lot of info on test study guides is not in book, so you must attend every class and take notes as she lectures, or you will have a really hard time. Very boring lecturer.
It's not impossible to earn an A, most people are lazy just don't put in the work. Do the homework, do the study guides, you'll do well. Just a lot of reading, but simple concepts and most stuff is just common sense. People really need to stop being so lazy and blaming the professor when they're the ones skipping class and not doing the readings.
Lots of reading. Tests are a bit tough, but not terribly hard. She provides a good study guide, which gives a good idea of what to expect. Note taking encouraged. Some outside work, but nothing too demanding. She's reasonable to work with, and very nice. You'll earn the "A."
Love the class, love learning about sociology and all the readings are good. However there are lots of readings, I personally had a hard time with the tests where is scored c's and c+'s, she gives a study guide, but I had difficulty with some of the wording. The classes are a lot of lecture, but its all very interesting. Just read and you'll be ok
Professor Stein was awesome! At first the assigned reading from outside sources (not the textbook) and the mandatory attendance of a lecture event around CofC seemed like I was wasting my time, but I actually grew to really appreciate them! The readings, the presentations by students, and the essay topics gave me much more out of the class
All you need to do for this class is the readings to do well on the tests, and while some chapters are longer than others it's not ridiculously overwhelming. And study guides are provided for each test and they are very accurate, fill that out and you're guaranteed a A/B on the test. Only 3 major papers for the course and they were minimum of 2 pgs
Professor Stein is one of the nicest women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. If you talk to her outside of class, are respectful, and show up to class, she will love you. Go to all of her classes and taking notes because that is where a lot of the material on the tests comes from. There is a lot of reading but its worth it.
Very tough class and the professor doesnt help at all. She makes it very hard and is not lenient at all. Test are impossible to pass and consist of all the answers are correct but there is a best choice. Would not recommend this professor to anyone.
One of the best professor's I've ever had. She is so caring and flexible with you. She let me take my final early because I was leaving to see family. The study guides are pointless honestly, nothing like the test. The tests are extremely hard, I studied for 2 weeks and got a C. Very specific tests and the readings take hours. Great professor.
