For Cell biology, this lady is really nice, but the material is very difficult. I recommend taken a few more upper level Bio courses before than this one. A good chemistry background helps as well.
Good teacher, kinda boring lectures because she repeats with 2 or 3 slides, but she does it so you understand the material. If you study the powerpoints and check out some of the stuff on moodle she is easy. Dont take this class if you just looking for a gen ed, she expects university level understanding and work.
She is a horrible teacher. All she does is read the slide, then goes to the next slide and does the same thing. She doesn't clarify whats going to be on the exam. Her exams are impossible to do well on. The average in my class was a 67%. (Thats not the students fault). I would never recommend this teacher to anyone. Straight up horrible teacher!!!!
A lot of info and it's not explained very well. However, she is extremely helpful in her office hours. From what I've heard about the other profs, it's best to just avoid 309 if you can
Fantastic professor! Very pleased. Lectures are very clear and provide a nice outline about what you should focus on for the exams. The only reason the averages were low were probably because some students just do not study or put in any time/effort. She is a wonderful professor!
Is very straight to the point and does lectures off powerpoint presentations. She does post the presentation on moodle so you can listen to her talk in class and print them out later. Attendance quizes given (about 7) and the online labs are really easy. Exams weren't too difficult if you studied and paid attention in class.
Very sharp professor, smart as a whip and very very knowledgeable. Presents information in a clear, concise, and structured manner. I am very impressed!
Subject matter was somewhat difficult because her study materials for test were way too much information to retain. She reads of Powerpoint slides which are quite lengthy. I wouldn't take her again but may not have a choice compared whose all ready teaching Biology she may be the only choice. You just have to study and come to class.
Professor was very hard to understand. Just read off the slides. I felt like I didn't even have to go to class. The class had a D average. Does not curve tests or anything. Hard class at it is, the tests didn't make sense very tricky.
Very straight forward with her exams! If you study her powerpoints you will diff get at least a B or and A on her exams. My catholic school exams were harder! If you dont understand something she kind makes you feel dumb. no quizzes just 4 exams. Book is kinda pointles unless you are looking at diagrams and pictures. Take her!
Horrible. She reads off powerpoint slides during the entire class period. It's very difficult to pass any of her tests because she has an overloaded amount of material that you have to study. I would not recommend anyone to take her class. Hopefully, you can take it at another community college before it's to late.
The teacher is O.K. She teaches stright from a powerpoint DONT BUY THE BOOK its a waste i never once opened it. Use that money and buy printer ink and paper because the best thing you can do is print her powerpoints and bring them into her class!! The test are crazy hard, they cover three or more chapters. Average grades were C's.
Hated the class. She reads off the powerpoints, like you cant read, she may add a note or 2 but some ppl cant keep up with that, TEST ARE VERY HARD! Alot of that stuff will look like a diff. lang. if you are not good at Bio, she does offer help but she is SO PLAIN, SO BORING dont take her husband either!!
Nice woman, but not the best prof by any means. This class is not very in depth. A lot of material is covered and you have to know how to study. If you don't study, you are not going to do well. It is a college level course, you cant expect to not attend class and do well, it doesn't happen. Study and you will pass.
Awesome professor! She was so helpful and would explain things to anyone who was confused. She offered my class almost 20 points of extra credit simply for studying some online modules! Tests are fair - no trick questions. Very straightforward...no hidden agenda. What she lectures is what is on her tests. No surprises.
I took the BIO 104 online course which is not easy at all. There are 3 exams that are very hard and 8 quizzes but you can take 2. Dont expect help in this class she replies back within a week not 24 hours like most teachers. She doesnt give back assignments before exams so you have no idea how you are doing. Take in class for better grade!
Dr. Sturtevant was incredibly helpful and she used an ample amount of examples to better explain the subject matter. She offered many extra credit opportunities. If you study, go to class and take advantage of extra credit, there is no reason you can't get a 3.0 or above. I highly suggest taking BIO 111 with her :)
I took this class online. It didn't take much work at all. I spent about a week before each test studying and I got 3.3. The tests were pretty challenging. 3 tests all multiple choice. Lots of memorizing!!! She was very helpful and stayed in touch via email consistently. If you can learn on your own take it online! It was a good course!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER BECAUSE SHE IS ORGANIZED, EASY TO UNDERSTAND, AND MAKES THE LEARNING PROCESS A LITTLE MORE INTERESTING THAN I HAD THOUGHT. SHE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE.THE COURSE ITSELF IS CHALLENGING BUT IF YOU STUDY HARD YOU'LL PASS HER CLASS.
I never showed up to lectures because she reads straight from her powerpoints and they were all posted online. Her tests weren't hard or tricky and everything was from the power points except there is sooooo much to memorize beforehand. It used to drive me crazy. Ended up with a 4.0 but had to cram so much info my brain got numb.
Smart, concise and helpful. She's good about answering ?'s. Lots of material and memorizing but it's all given to you beforehand. Don't need to show up, all the material is in the ppt but it helps me personally. If people are really struggling with intro bio courses with her, just drop out. Stupid to see a good prof get bad ratings over intro bio
Overall a pretty tough class. People say you don't have to go to class, but she mentioned some more in-depth material that wasn't on the powerpoint during class. Exams are pretty tough but doable. Ended up with a 3.5 in the class but had to work hard the week before exams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Just completely awful experience. I am an A student and ended up with a 1.2, Take it with professor Hitt, when I retook it with Hitt ended up with a 3.8 and its wasn't because I worked any harder or did anything different. Its the teacher that makes the biggest difference in this class.
Good Professor. She explains things thoroughly and clearly, albeit sometimes a little quickly. If unclear on something, just look at her lecture powerpoints on Moodle- everything you need to know is *right* there. Studying is a MUST for bio 111, but all the resources (ie extra credit) she provides make passing the course absolutely possible.
I had no interest in biology before this class but now I'm considering a health career. Professor Sturtevant is so organized and concise. She explains all material thoroughly and there is plenty of extra credit. This class was pretty easy, a review of HS biology, but I certainly learned a lot of material. I would recommend to non science majors.
Took BIO 104 with her. She makes lecture outlines that are very helpful and does extra credit! She isn't very engaging though. She doesn't take attendance but will occasionally (aprox. 5-6 times the semester) give out attendence worksheets. If you study and go to class you will do well... as goes for any class though.
OK teacher.. She mostly just reads of the powerpoints so sometimes it's not even worth going to class because she puts them online. She offers a ton of extra credit and the virtual labs aren't that hard. You can't go into this class thinking that it's going to be easy though. DO THE OUTLINES AND EXTRA CREDIT.. and study and you'll be fine.
She is so awful. I would rather have spent my money on getting my genitals removed than take that class. She is monotone, and she reads off the slides, like we are all blind and cant read. She blows, hard. Dont even try to take the exam, for not even she could pass it. She is the most terrible teacher on the face of the earth. Hands down!
Her lectures are dry because she just reads off the slides. However, if you can manage to stay awake going to class is a good idea because she does example problems on the camera. Exams aren't that hard though they may seem like it at first. Memorize the outlines she gives you in class (that follow the ppt sildes) and you'll do fine on them.
I LOVED this woman and her class. Her exams are right off her slides and she will explain difficult concepts over and over again until any idiot could understand it. Yes, there is a ton of information she goes through, but she is a great professor and I have learned so much in this class! Plus- lots of extra credit!!!
Excellent professor. Very helpful. I had to go to the SI sessions, which are EXTREMELY helpful. I highly recommend going to them. Although she tend s to read directly from the slides, which can be rather boring, they are very helpful and she is very good at explaining difficult concepts. I plan on taking her for other BIO classes!
Excellent professor. Hard to pay attention sometimes, but she goes over the hard points several times, does a good job explaining things, is a very fair grader, and is more than willing to answer E-Mails. Class is not easy by nature, but she is a good a professor as you could ask for.
One of the best profs I have ever had at OU! Always willing to help! Second exam was the hardest! her quizzes help you a lot in preparation for the exams! Offers extra credit! hard class, for a good grade I'd take it with Dr. Ann. I ended with a 3.5, this class is very possible! Save your self trouble and take it with Dr. Ann :)
The people who don't like this prof is because they don't study and are to lazy do any kind of work. As long as you study, do the extra credit, and come to class you'll do great. I Ended up with a 4.0 in the class but I did work for it.
The most monotone voice. Impossible to sit through her class and the amount of quizes were rediculous. The class was 1hr40mins and she only spared 10 mins for a quiz. So rushed. Read directly from ppts and was SO boring. Interested in genetics until I took her class.
I ADORED HER! She is an EXCELLENT professor. People complain that she just reads off the Powerpoints, but its bio, what else can you expect her to do? She is VERY clear and her outlines were extremely helpful. PRINT THEM! and do NOT buy the book. 4.0'ed the class without using it once.
I suggest to others to at least have some knowledge of orgo before entering this class. Although this professor was excellent to my standards, the class itself needs a lot of studying. Don't expect a 4.0 without studying at least 10 hours/week!
Worthless. Reads from PPs completely monotone, & if you ask a question on one of the quizzes/tests she doesn't even look at it & says "Just pick one." Every single time. Tests are much harder than they should be & there are weekly quizzes. She's so awful I quit going to class unless we had a quiz. I usually love my profs but I hate her passionately
I highly recommend printing out her outlines and following along with the lectures. You can get a 4.0 in this class! She offers extra credit through connect it does cost $60 but get it. I promise you won't regret it! It helped me a lot when studying for the tests. This class was interesting and easy She is very clear and willing to help you do well
I was very nervous prior to taking this class. However, Dr. Ann Sturtevant made this class much less nerve-wracking. Her lectures were a bit long but the information came directly from her own ppt and her exams were made straight from the information in the ppt. You definitely need to study hard but a 4.0 is possible. Offers EC!
This class was way harder then it needed to be. Found myself doing other homework in her class. The book and online homework was a joke. Tests and quizzes were way harder then they needed to be. 300 question final. Realized only 10 people were showing up to class and gave them 5 extra credit points. Don't recommend this professor.
She's a very good professor and really knows her stuff well. Biology is hard but if you study and carefully read her power point slides you will do well in her class. Also going to SI is a good idea if you have a hard time understanding the materials. Exams are challenging but if you go to class, study, and read her slides you will be fine.
she is a good teacher but its so hard to pay attention because she is so monotone and just reads off the powerpoint. you wouldn't even need to show up if it wasn't for her iclicker questions because she posts everything on moodle. you will never use the book just memorize everything in her power points and you will be fine. gives extra credit
This Class is fairly easy. Mrs. Sturtavent gives you all of the information that you need through her power points. Reading the book is not mandatory. In fact the density of the information she presents in class is much less than that in the book. The tests are extremely straight forward. Quizzes are slightly tougher but you get to drop one.
If you show up to class and participate in the iClicker questions, you get easy extra credit. Her exams are largely based on the questions that she asks on the quizzes. She only tests on what she covers in class so you don't have to spend extra time reading the textbook. She never tries to trick you, and her exams are pretty straight forward.
Ann is honestly a great professor. Participation is MANDATORY, but you will really never open the book. She goes through everything in class that will be on her quizzes and tests. You need to show up to class to earn participation points, but its optional to take notes because everything is on her online power points . Prepare to study hard.
Her exams and quizzes are tricky because they're the "which one is false?" questions and then all the choice are super long and only ONE word will be off in the false choice. So you definitely need to know what you're doing for exams and quizzes. Gives a fair amount of extra credit. Sometimes gives EC if you go to class and stay the whole time
While the material CAN be challenging, the only way yo full absorb it is to go to lecture. She does a lot of review that really helps. She also posts every powerpoint along with lecture notes on moodle which is helpful. If you are willing to put in the work, you will do well. Also just buy the access code dont actually buy the book-never used it.
This class was chill for the first half of the semester and got really real really quickly. So don't fall asleep and get complacent like I did! She's nice enough and I liked her as a person, but there was a ton of lecture material and no real emphasis on what she wanted us to know. Gives a fair amount of extra creditleeway on exams.
This is a difficult course by nature but Prof. Sturtevant makes is pretty easy to understand and is available to help you. Her tests and quizzes are straight from her ppts and they can be tricky at times but overall not too bad. Offers a lot of E.C. Only need to come to class for iclicker points. She can be rude sometimes but shes approachable.
Biology in general is something i struggle with but she made this class a lot easier then i thought to 4.0. Definitely recommend her!
She gives a lot of quizzes, but they are very helpful because they help you study along the way so you don't end up cramming before an exam. If you work hard and go to SI, you could easily pass this class with a great grade. It is a challenging course, I don't think I could have done as well if I had taken it with someone else.
Do not take her MW because it is the most boring hour and 45 minutes you will ever experience. HOWEVER, she is an awesome person. Always positive. Very straight forward with what is expected. Study her powerpoints, and you will pass. EXTRA CREDIT is offered like crazy, you just have to be willing to spend time on it
She doesn't give any study guides. Monotone, lectures are very boring, and its hard to know what she expects from testquizzes. dull and boring personality.
This class is not that hard as long as you read a lot from her ppts, they are very useful, don't bother buying the book. She gives a lot of EC on the exams and iclicker questions. The quizzes are harder than the exams so don't freak out thinking that the exams will be as hard. The second exam is the hardest so study A LOT! I ended up with a 4.0
I really enjoyed the class! Prof. Sturtevant's guidelines and expectations were clear and she was helpful with questions as well.
If you are not good with biology, I simply don't recommend taking her. By no means is she a bad teacher, however compared to other professors, she requires you to know all the nity-grity stuff. She is knowledgable in what she talks about, however if you aren't a science-wiz, i suggest finding a new professor. She has made my workload difficult
She talks way too fast and her voice is so boring and monotone that no matter how hard I try I just can't concentrate. I'm falling asleep the entire class period.
Ann Sturtevant is a nice lady but I just don't think her class is helpful. Grades based on 4 exams, 7-8 quizzes, and iClicker. There are no study guides or homework which makes it very difficult to study since quizzes and exams are very broad usually. She is not very helpful. Would not recommend.
Lectures are long, and monotone. The tests are hard and in detail, you really need to know the criteria. The quizzes are given every 3 lectures and are harder than the tests. Attendance is mandatory, because iClicker questions are in every lecture which will give you extra credit in the class.
Long, monotone, boring lectures; however, she goes through and reviews the harder concepts. Gives a lot of extra credit. I never touched my book, but the connect is mandatory. Multiple iClicker questions are given throughout the lecture, so attendance is also mandatory. Quizzes are tougher than the exams. Overall fair class and professor.
There is no study guide given. Each PowerPoint is around 200 slides. It is very hard to know what to study. The lectures are so long and monotone and she gives iclicker points during class so people show up, otherwise I don't think people would. Each exam is over 4 powerpoints but it's hard to know what to study when each PowerPoint has many slides
I never used the textbook. She posts all of her power point and lectures online so you don't really need to go to class but I did. She gives tons of extra credit. All of the online exercises that come with the book were extra credit, some iclicker questions were extra credit, and there was some built into tests. Quizzes are online, tests aren't bad
Overall this class is very very hard. I would advise you to take it with another teacher. Does not give study guides, does not tell you what is on the exams. She expects you to read every slide she posts (each test is on around 400-600 slides). The final is cumulative, 150 points, so you're studying a couple 1000 slides for it.
This is not an easy class. Lectures are all on power-point. Quizzes and tests are very difficult. Gives lots of extra credit, but you must be present to receive. Pay attn to her iclicker questions-they are a good indicator of the level of knowledge she expects. Labs are all online. Take her if you are going into bio - you'll learn a ton.
Dr. Sturtevant is a very good teacher. She breaks down biological concepts and makes them easier to understand. She prepares detailed power points with repetitions that help you to remember. If you examine them before class, you'll understand and be more attentive. Commit the time to learn and you will excel. I took BIO 341 & 113 with her.
I meant to say I took BIO 341 and 111 with her.
I will never take this professor again. Lectures are long and BORING! Of course it's biology so not the most exciting thing in the world but she definitely doesn't help. She reads off the powerpoint the whole period which doesn't help anyone. Her tests are hard compared to other professors. She made the subject very boring. Lots of assignments.
Very smart and kind lady and really gets bio but not a very good explainer. Lectures were long and boring and her powerpoints were confusing and really did not translate that well on tests. Read the book and take notes if you want to pass. She really wants to help her students but struggles with it.
very monotone and boring. there are 7 quizzes worth 10pts each, online hw, and 3 exams and a cumulative final. her ppts are about 200 slides each and her exams are extremely hard the final is cumulative over 2000 ppt slides
DO NOT TAKE JUST NO NO NO! very monotone if you skip class your screwed because she has 3-5 iclicker questions per lecture. her powerpoints are no less than 150 slides per chapter and her cumulative final is over 2000+ slides. At the beginning its easy material then later on its a completely different language. she has 7 quizzes 10pts each
just dont
Prof Sturtevant is very monotone. when asking questions after class she makes you feel dumb. have yet to find a good bio teacher
MONOTONE, she turned an interesting subject (genetics) into one of the most boring classes I've had. Each set of notes is 100-150 slides and she goes too fast to write most of the info down. Exams are very difficult and not much like her notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does 2-5 iClickers per class which adds up to 10% of the final grade
Attendance is based on whether or not you answer the iclicker question for that day. I didn't touch the textbook but there was online homework for each chapter so you'll need to get the access codes. There are five exams including the final but they're easy to pass. I got an 86 on the final without studying at all.
All bio classes I have taken at Oakland have been very difficult. This professor lectures for the whole time so it is pretty boring and the tests are based on hundreds of powerpoint slides so the tests are hard. However she gives out easy points for online assignments and credit for answering I-clicker questions in class. Difficult class though.
I took Sturtevant for a non-bio majors course, and that's exactly what it was. I took a microbio/genetics class in HS, so I knew a small fraction of the material before the class, which helps but is not required. She says everything at least twice; helps you learn through repetition. Only needed the book for online HW. Need an ICLICKER too!
Great teacher and she knows her stuff. Hilarious too!
Her Class had Iclicker questions in class (which is a small part of your grade), online timed quizes, take home assignments, and A LOT of extra credit. For many the material is complicated but she has great reviews that help a lot. She draws pictures to help people understand material. She made a complicated class that is possible to get a 4.0 in.
Very lecture heavy, and kind of expects you to know everything before you even sit down. If you do take her, make sure you study a lot for the exams and check LearnSmart for upcoming assignments.
She just reads off of a 100-page slideshow every class and expects you to get everything right away. The final was hard (I got a 60) a lot of people in the class got 40s, the averages for all the exams are low. The weekly quizzes are pretty easy.
terrible lectures
I had her for 2 weeks. I call her NY-Quil to all my friends. I couldn't stand how she didn't even try to make it interesting. I can promise you that no matter what form of insomnia or sleep disorder you have, there is no reason to freight; for Mrs. Ann Sturtevant will cure all.
I took BIO 104 with Dr. Sturtevant as an online class. The class consisted of reading one chapter with a quiz, group discussion, and sometimes a lab each week. It has been 6 years since I took high school biology, this class was very similar but a bit more in depth. For the online class, we had to meet 3 times on campus for exams.
I took Bio 111 with Dr. Sturtevant. Although she has her quirks she, is an overall all around great educator. I hope to have her again for my next course, now that I know what she expects from me as the student and I know how she operates.
Test heavy. Quiz heavy. Very difficult and fast paced class. You must attend and study. She doesn't like to pause for those who actually write things down or try to understand them. Office hours? yeah right. Good luck getting in contact with her.
Very sweet woman, cares about the material and gives real world examples to engage the students. The PowerPoints and lecture outlines are very disorganized, to the point that it can be hard to follow along. Lectures are not consistent with the book and connect homework, but the exams are consistent with what she lectures on.
Very good teacher, awesome lectures. Gives so much extra credit.
Dr. Sturtevant is a great professor! Her lectures are long, but very clear. Tests are all multiple choice, and a review is given. Exams are difficult, but that's just Biology in general, Dr. Sturtevant makes it understandable!
Ann is fantastically passionate about what she teaches but you will need to actively participate to learn the material, as it is difficult and technical. She is great at conveying and takes her time to explain complicated concepts. Great professor. Uses iClickers and extra credit is built into exams.
Prof Sturtevant is very clear about how you will be graded. She knows her stuff and is willing to answer questions in class. Sturtevant also makes sure to do exam review in class which gives you hints as to what will be on the exam. As long as you study, show up to class, answer the iClicker questions, and do your online homework, you can ace it.
There are iclicker questions to go along with every lecture, its important to go to this class. She always tells you ahead of time when there is going to be a quiz and what will be on it. Her lectures were often long and boring. Provides outlines
Great Prof!!! Highly recommend taking her. Yeah bio is a hard class but she does everything she can to help students and you can tell that she wants students to do well. She also gives extra credit which is great!!!!
Extremely lecture heavy, doesn't have any other material to help students retain information. Her quizzes are every week & are nothing like she goes over on the powerpoint in class, you must know the material all the way around to pass her class. Her quizzes are trick questions, so if you don't know the material exactly you won't pass.
Class is dreadful because she doesn't try to make it interesting. There's iClicker questions throughout class to boost your grade and count attendance. She will never cancel class, we had class the day before thanksgiving. She doesn't explain material that you dont understand either. If you don't show up to the lecture you won't understand the pwpt
Ann is fantastic! I've taken both Botany and Plant Physiology with her. I really loved attending her lectures. It's not all textbook: she makes sure to include interesting facts and examples whenever possible. She's always sure to take time after notes to draw diagrams that make complex topics digestible. You won't regret taking a class with her!
Ann ruined my mental health. I still have night terrors from her class. Her lectures were extremely long and boring. Her weekly ten question quizzes were very difficult and covered around 90+ slides. If you didn't memorize each slide word for word, might as well not even show up. We had online homework for each chapter and it was only worth 20 pts.
Genetics starts off very easy and calculation-based, and I didn't really mind her fast-paced lectures. However, the second half of the semester is very content heavy and she reads off of the slides very quickly and leaves everyone confused. Her quizzes are difficult. Everything is doable if you study. There are a couple extra credit opportunities.
I hate this class. I was excited for genetics and now I hate it. Her lectures are so boring but you have to go for the iclicker questions. She is rude when you don't understand. Her tests are REALLY specific and she never gives enough time to finish them because she lectures afterward. I have no idea why she teaches, she seems to hate it.
There is no doubt about it - Genetics is a hard class, especially towards the end, and Ann does not necessarily make it easier. Her exams are typically long and somewhat difficult, but she ends up giving out a bunch of extra credit. Her lectures also tend to be dry. Quizzes are doable. iClicker points are important! I ended up learning a lot.
Annoying, doesnt teach, just talks for the whole hour and 40 minutes
We had a quiz on Moodle about once a week. Very easy and you could take them more than once. I NEVER touched my book because her lectures were just the same wording on powerpoints, which were also on Moodle. She just talked the whole time. She does not take attendance like normal, she will take attendance from iClicker questions during the lecture.
Not sure how her ratings are so low. I took her for human bio and she's the sweetest lady. If you like the human body, put in the work, and keep up on homework you'll be perfect. Her exams are pretty easy too, she gives you a study guide. Her class was my favorite. If I could take her again, I would.
Her lectures are lengthy but really straight forward. She also provide outline notes that help as well. She uses Iclickers for points. She is an easy grader that curves tests. She really just want everyone to succeed!! She reviews before tests, etc. The final is not cumulative either which is awesome. Great professor!!
When the whole COVID-19 situation happened and classes were online, she made my life hell. she did not record lectures, do voice-over or nothing. basically telling us to teach ourselves b/c she has 5 other classes, so do i. she gave us less time for exams and quizzes and made them 10x harder. she did not have any virtual office hours or help us
If you have to take any bio class make sure she is not your professor. The way she handled the COVID-19 situation is literally ridiculous, so many quizzes & not enough time to do them. She get so irritated at the class for leaving after exams but I have never had a professor make students stay after taking an exam. It seems like she hates teaching.
Be prepared to have a lecture after an exam. Be prepared to spend most of your time studying for her course, and sacrifice other grades. She is a nice lady, easy to talk to, and strongly recommend attending office hours.
Her lectures are very long and difficult. Goes over much more difficult material compared to other bio1200 classes. Went more indepth into chem and biochem than my actual chem class. Very understanding though if you do well. STUDY. I watched lots of ppl not study and do poor on quizzes+exams. study hard for each quiz +the exam will be much easier
Had a family emergency &missed a due date by 1 day &she was not very understanding, & quite rud, so plan on having your life revolve around HER CLASS ONLY. SI is considered "optional" but if you don't go your questions aren't answered because she bases the sessions off the last groups' questions. Don't take if you have any other classes but this.
Lectures are long and boring, hard to get through. She LOVES to waste your time on exam days, exams are on proctor U and google meet. You have to wait for her to room scan everyones room before you can start the exam. It was so frustrating. NEVER have i had another professor not trust their students like her. We're juniors and seniors!
This class is hard because of the topics covered. Her lectures were very informative and helpful and she gives good handouts of what will be on the test. Study the powerpoints and lecture notes. For online you are proctored for every test. This class is a lot of work but I enjoyed the challenge and was happy I picked Prof. Sturtevant.
The class is hard because of how many chapters are on each exam. Definitely study her powerpoints and lecture videos. Exams are on ProctorU and on google meet. Final exam wasn't cumulative which was really nice. There is a quiz each week but you get two attempts, and the labs were easy.
please do not take her class, her powerpoints are messy, she grades hard and her questions on the exams are very confusing.
Professor Sturtevant is kind, if you reach out to her she will always do her best to help, although she does seem mean in her lectures. Her moodle page is very unorganized and there is a ton of information on her exams, so the class is very difficult. Her exams are very specific, so her exams are very hard to take.
The lectures were rough because of how much information was on them. Exams were based off of her power points, not the homework (which is slightly different). She handled class questions well.
Test are average. If you go to class consistently the information will come easy to you. There is SI available. Lectures get kind of boring. The first exam is the hardest so do not stress if you dont do the greatest because the other concepts are easier. Overall good prof, take her over the other ones.
Professor Sturtevant was a very fair professor. As long as you put the work into the class you'll get a good grade. As long as you do the homework and online labs you'll get 100%. Tests are very straight forward and every test had some questions for extra credit. Final exam wasn't cumulative.
Genetics is a hard class no doubt, Ann does not make this class any easier. she is not accessible out of class and she responds to emails very short and in a rude manner. in comparison to other professors who teach genetics at Oakland, take them instead of Ann. she does give extra credit but her exams are 65+ questions and very detailed.
She was an ok professor, as long as you put in the work the class should be alright. Her exams are long sometimes the questions can be straight-forward, but her lectures are pointless. Homework and quizzes were not helpful at all, you need to teach yourself. She does use proctor U and zoom for exams and does a 360 room scan.
This class is basically like high school biology. She posted PowerPoints and lectures online and you could watch them on your own time. We had multiple quizzes, forums, labs, and 5 exams. For exams, she made us go on proctorU and record ourselves + join on google meets from our phone to show our surroundings and keyboard while taking the exams.
Exams were mostly written. Quizzes are timed but not easy at all. Lectures were boring and hard to get through. Must show up to class, IClicker for attendance and put into the grade as well. No review sheets to know what to study. You basically have to know everything on the slides to do well on the exam, all is fair game.
She does not put material on exams that aren't from lectures. Has reviewsdays where she tells you want is gona be on the exam and what you need to know to do well. Students blow this class out of proportion for how hard it is when it reality it's just from a lack of studying on their end. You need to put in the work to do well. Love Ann. Recommend
There were quizzes once a week, but they weren't terrible. Whatever she lectured was usually on the quizzes and tests. STUDY GOOD and you will get a good grade in the class. Also, I did almost terrible on most of the exams, and I still passed with a B. DO ALL THE ASSIGNMENTS before their due date and you will pass guaranteed. She is a good prof.
Listening, taking notes, and paying attention are crucial to understanding. Most people don't pay attention during lectures, fail to realize the error is on their end, and proceed to blame teachers for their shortcoming/s. I could definitely pass the class based on the resources posted. She's also communicative about testing accommodations.
Professor Sturtevant is great! She teaches very well and helps a lot. She reviews each topic after lecturing by writing out everything you need to know which is super helpful. Her exams and quizzes are very similar to the powerpoints which are very understandable. She gives a lot of time to do assignments and informs students weeks in advance .
Genetics is not a hard subject at all, but Ann makes this class a drag. Her exams and quizzes are very unrealistic for the amount of time given (on quizzes 10 questions in 12 mins that ask which is FALSE), attendance is mandatory via iClicker. Be prepared to work for your grade, as this class took more effort than my Microbio course this semester.
One of my favorite profs; you can tell she's interested in her job and actually wants her students to do well. Attending lectures is important as there are around 1-3 iclicker points a day, but I missed a couple classes and still ended with a 99%. As long as you study off of the slides you do not need to worry about quizzes or exams AT ALL.
Dr. Sturtavent was an awesome professor. Attendance is not required for your grade, though you need to show up to class to understand material and get Clicker points! You can meet with this professor during office hours and she is not hesitant by any means to offer help, you just have to be willing to ask for it. I would recommend Ann to anyone.
The class is all lectures, can get very boring. Uses Cengage, which was a pain for me and called for long hours. Will always do a lot of review. You definitely have to put a lot of effort into this class. Final exam isn't cumulative.
Her lectures can be dry, but very clear about what she expects you to know. She will tell you what to focus on & if she's repeating herself- it's for a reason, pay attention! Exams are based on lectures, not the book, so don't skip. Not a "fun" professor but knowledgeable and straightforward. Serious students will do well, some got 100%+ overall.
Ann is an awesome professor! You have weekly quizzes that you can take two times and they are pretty easy if you study the power points. Her class is difficult like all BIO classes so I recommend going to lecture to get Clicker points which can seriously help your grade out. TAKE ANN!
NEED TO STUDY! (I hate bio so i am bias) I didn't necessarily like or not like prof sturtevant. It was hard to stay interested in the power points and she felt a bit cold? I needed help but was a little too intimidated by her to go to office hours. Always answered ?'s in-depth during class though. definitely 5/10
Go to every lecture for iclicker points because it WILL help and/or maintain your grade. Memorize EVERYTHING on the power points for each exam and you'll get an A. with this professor, if you get a bad grade it reflects you. meaning you didn't study. EC on all exams. exams were straightforward. no questions required out of the box thinking.
This was a very hard class for me. She reads directly of her powerpoint that are anywhere from 70-100 slides. You usually complete 2 or 1.5 powerpoint a week and its pretty fast past. the extra credit and homework carried me. It was hard because a lot of information was coming at you in just an hour class.
Professor Sturtevant's class is straightforward - attend lectures, study the slides, and you'll do well. unstuck study was a great supplement for test prep.
This class made my first semester miserable. You attend the two hour lecture for her to just read 100+ slides. While I will say she gives a generous amount of extra credit, the exams and quizzes are still difficult. You can pay attention the whole class period and do the work and still fail the exam. Do not recommend.
She's a little tough but if you pay attention and study outside of class you'll do good. There were extra credit opportunities. Get to know her if you want her to like you. Final is not cumulative but an A is a 95%. Emails back quick when you have questions and SI was also great help outside of class.
Anyone who says this class was hard just did not study. She is a very fair and professional professor. She states her exams are based solely on the lectures and stands by that, making the exams very easy. She also offers a lot of extra credit making it very easy to finish with an A in the class.
one of the worst professors i've had in my first semester as a college student. all she does in class is read 100+ slides, and expects us to learn from that? exams are hard. i would not take her again tbh.
Take this professor! At first she seemed strict and as a freshman, this class seemed hard considering you're new to uni. But compared to other bio teachers, she gives total of four exams, including the final! Other bio teachers had around five exams. LOTS of extra credit and she will help you! Quizzes are doable. Go to SI too the leader is amazing.
I took this online and received an A+. You'll need the online book for the homework, but reading it isn't necessary. If you watch and fill out the lecture outlines, you have all the tools to create Quizlets. The professor always responds to emails promptly and gives many extra credit opportunities. Exams are hard but manageable if you study hard.
Even tho the class was difficult and never got anything higher then a c in any of the exams I was able to pass with a b due to all the extra credits. Make sure u study for at least 3 days before an exam and u will be fine!
She is strict, teaches you the course with straight 2000 page slideshows and reads the slideshows and expects you to learn. If you can sit in a 2 hour lecture and go over 200 slides and learn she's fantastic
AVOID HER - seriously if it means having to wait to take the class, wait to take the class. I've never run out of time while taking an exam - with hers I did. She also kept saying it should not take the entire time... when we were granted the entire hour. She's very unrealistic. Genetics may be difficult, but TRUST she will over complicate it.
Professor Sturtevant was easily the best professor I have taken at OU. Biology is a subject with lots of information, and she does a great job of explaining it. The material for the exam is strictly from her slides, so if you really study and master them you will succeed in this class. Go to class and participate in i clickers, lots of extra credit
Chaotic, unorganized, just overall bad. Which is really disappointing because genetics is a great subject. Take with another prof for sureeee.
she is a decent professor but doesn't give feedback on anything. The lectures are long and hard to keep up with in class, but she posts them in moodle so you can look back at them after class. There are a total of 5 exams through the semester.
The way she teaches this class is unbelievable. She reads off PowerPoints the whole lecture that are hundreds of pages long and expects you to learn from that? With the amount of info dumping she does, it is very hard to keep up. 4 exams throughout the semester that make up half your grade which is ridiculous but at least the final isn't cumulative
There are a total of 4 exams throughout the course. All the exams are heavily based off the PowerPoints. There's a lot of extra credit opportunities. She posts a lot of resources in Moodle to help you study. Only downsides are that she reads off the PowerPoints and they're super long, but at least you know exactly what you need to study.
Took her my first semester, just finished my first year here. She hooks you up with everything you need to know as well as some more. PowerPoints may be long + everyone complaining but down the road you will realize that professors never hook you up like Prof Sturtevant does. she does a great job esp in a first semester freshmen class. Put in work.
Very nice professor, long lectures but she made content really easy to understand. As long as you pay attention in class, take notes, complete all assignments, and study for quizzes and exams this is an easy A. You do need to pay for online access to textbook/homework and iClicker for some required class material. She also offers some extra credit.
Exams aren't long by number, but each question and its answers are super lengthy and confusing. I always used the full time. She words things oddly, making exams harder than needed. Just reads off PowerPoints, nothing is recorded, and you're expected to know it all. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!
Only discusses powerpoints, not a good professor if you don't already know what you're doing
I have taken over 140 credits of college level credits and 120 of those were at Michigan State University. She is by far the worst professor I have ever had. All she does is read from her powerpoint for the whole class. The connect homework takes about 2 hours to complete per week and none of the exam questions come from the homework. DONT TAKE HER
doesn't give u a study guide so you know exactly what to study so you basically have to know 500 different things and she expects you to memorize everything it's unbelievable this class makes me miserable. takes so much time out of my day it's way too much
Awful do not take she just reads off the slides the entire class and very lecture heavy tends to rush through the slides and hard to follow
She is awful. Only reads the slides and is not helpful at ALL. Assignments takes forever for each unit. Had to buy the textbook, connect homework, AND iclickers. SO SO BAD. Find any other professor.
If you like teaching yourself this is the class for you, Her lectures are 90% reading off of powerpoint slides, which she reads to fast to keep up with. The only way I was able to learn anything from this class was teaching myself from the book. There are also 4 exams in this class, so be prepared to spend all of your time studying or to fail
She basically just reads off the slide, attendance is mandatory with iclickers, you need the online textbook which is like $110. She does give out helpful notes about topics to summarize them but sometimes they're not even on the exam. Last exam isn't cumulative. Idk she's basically like a robot, could have never went to class and gotten an A.
I don't even know where to start. Ann makes us buy a $110 text book that will be mandatory to purchase because there's labs and assignments on it, it will barley help with exams. She also sits and talks the whole 2 hours reading through her power points which are 100+ pages. She will take any minute she can to talk. You need to study A LOT to pass!
Be prepared to teach yourself EVERYTHING. The class average on all 4 exams were less than a 70%, and her final exam average was a 59%. She will not curve test grades. Told the class I'm the first lecture “this class is very easy to fail” so maybe teach better? I would advise a different teacher, but the bio department here is not very good at all.
Dont believe these reviewrs SHE IS ACTAULLY NOT AS BAD OF A PROFESSOR. As long as u take notes in class u will be good. I am not that smart but i studied a lot. As long as u put in the work, it shouldnt be so hard. Her icklers questions and any qs she has will most likely be on the exam(similar). STUYD PPT NOT BOOK. better than any other professor
The highest exam average was a 60% all semester. She lectures the entire class straight. Exams are very difficult. Prepare to spend everyday studying for this class, and you still won't do good on the exams.
Please avoid her at all cost. She isn't a great professor , terrible actually. The powerpoint's are over 100 slides and she expects you to know every single detail on the powerpoint. Average for exam were a 60% and the final average was a 59%.She doesn't not care about her students. She reads off the slides the entire time and has terrible writing.
All her exams are very difficult and the class average was nothing above a 70% all semester including the final. There are 4 exams total including the final and none were curved. The connect homework takes no less than 2 hours per assignment, and she uses iclickers during class making lectures mandatory. She does offer some extra credit, not a ton.
Take her at your own risk. Hw, labs, attendance, and iClicker points are easy, but you must buy the book online. She provides no study guides, and exams cover 200–300 slides her study sheets often miss content. SI sessions are optional and sometimes helpful but concerns are often ignored Extra credit is limited and rarely boosts your grade by a bit
