AWSOME TEACHER, GIVES OUT PACKETS IN ORDER FOR YOU TO STUDY FOR THE TESTS. CLARITY ON WORK BEING TAUGHT IN CLASS IS VERY CLEAR. TESTS ARE AWSOME, IF YOU KNOW THE STUFF IN THE PACKETS, YOU KNOW THE STUFF ON THE TEST. I RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER TO EVERYONE. GREAT ATTITUDE AND PROFESSIONALISM!!!!!!!
Excellent teacher and chemist. Knows her stuff. Very fair and patient even to the whiney babies. Lots of review and clear expectations. Wants everyone to succeed.
She is an awesome teacher! She was great at clarifying everything. I am still using her packets to study for my 1411 class! She is awesome!
Really easy class, if you remember anything from H.S. chem you should be fine. Only thing about her is that Lab attendance is mandatory.
Awsome teacher!! She explains everything until you had understand it and gives excellent packets! The best teacher ever!
i accidently took her intro but she is such nice lady. she explains material very clear until you understand. she hands out the packages in each unit and exams are not real hard, but be aware of . make sure do the all textbook problems that she assign , they are really helpful for your exam. I highly recommand her and i 'll take her class again.
I only got a B in the class b/c I am not a science person at all! Although you have to study a lot for the exams!! There are 8 exams and a final exam. Your final grade totals 500 points. She also grades very tough!!
Very good teacher, color packets with notes and practice problems. repeats everything frequently so if you didnt get it the first time, you will the second. I highly recomend her, her organization made me more organized as a student.
AWESOME teacher! highly recomended
Amazingg teacher. She explains thing to you in easy ways so everyone in the class can catch on. She will help everyone individually if you need it and is really really nice. I've never had an issue in her class and its an easy class
Awesome teacher. I got an A in her class without buying the text book. You only need to study in her hangouts. Highly recommended to anyone who are not science person. You will get A in this class
Ms. Van Heerden is a great teacher. Its not a blow off class, you have to do you work. But it is not difficult. I have not had any problems understanding the material. She is very organized and gives study guides and review sheets to make sre you pass the tests. You can only fail if you dont show up to class or pay attention. Shes great.
I had not taken chemistry in four years so it was an excellent class for review, for those who plan to take future interest in Chemistry. She has an admirable attitude towards chemistry; one of those ?GREAT? teachers that are hard to come across. I actually felt like she was not only teaching the class but always willing to learn from her students
Oh my.. I can't believe those bad ratings. She is one of the best professors in Cy-Fair, and what in the world those students were studying. She is absolutely crystal clear professor and she teaches students so hard all the way down to student level. When student raises question, and she always took the time explain the material better.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE STUDENT???MR. ANN IS SUCH A NICE PERSON... YOU WILL LOVE THIS CLASS. SHE IS SO CLEAR AND WILL MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND SHE GIVES YOU THE NOTES,,, SO IF YOU FAIL THIS CLASS, SORRY BUT YOU ARE AN IDIOT OR SOMETHING... THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN FAIL THIS CLASS... ALSO IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT CHEM, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER FOR THIS .
one of the best teachers i've ever had! would recommend her to anyone! very patient and easy to understand!
A wonderful teacher and super patient! She's more than willing to help anyone who has any questions and will go as slow as needed to understand the material. She does a great job breaking down what is needed to know in the class. Only draw back is all the test you have to take for her class, but they're all easy test.
Excellent! It is Prof VanHeerdan's goal to teach students at their ability level. She CARES!
Great teacher! She is the best teacher that I have had at Lonestar College. She does an excellent job explaining concepts and helps every student!
She is the best professor i have had at lonestar. She is very clear and will make sure each student fully understands. She is very nice and willing to work with students!! I would recomend her to anyone!
Ann wants students to really learn the material. We did exercises in class, go over handout notes, and did quick reviews before tests. There are suggested book exercises, but we just turn in lab reports. She takes extra time after class to help those struggling. She will seek you if she notices your grades.
She is one of the best professor ive ever had. She makes you love chemistry because of her passion and dedication for it. Its not so hard, just do the practice problems she assigns and show up to class. It would not be such a good idea to miss her lectures. But she is a must take, i love this teacher!
Took her for Organic Chem II last spring. Best teacher ever :) tests are really easy and she shows interest in helping her students so they can succeed :) Loved coming to class.
She is an awesome Chemistry teacher. The only reason I got a C is because I had some family health problems and I slacked off too much. Other than that you can easily get a B and if you do your work an A is at hand.
perfect teacher... doesn't go wrong
take her......
no regret.ake her
She really is wonderful, the class is hard, but if you go to lectures, ask questions, and do the assigned problems you will do fine. She is always there to help if you need it, either by e-mail or appointment...loved her!
She is an amazing teacher. Organic Chemistry is a hard subject but she makes it a lot easier to understand. She really seems like she cares about your academic success. She's also very understanding and compassionate. Take her class!
Its rare to come across a teacher who is so excited to teach. Especially chemistry. She made chemistry very easy to understand, everything was clear, and she was always very helpful. I highly recommend her. And I can't wait to take her for Organic Chem!
The best teacher that I've ever had. If you want to undrestand Organic chem take her.Her tests are net as easy as some people say. I got A in her class but it needs hard working, but dont worry she is veryb helpful, very nice and very good at clearfying hard concepts
Great teacher! Very helpful and makes study guides and gives practice problems for exams.
Took her for the first time and she is one of the best professors I have ever had. The class is hard and you do have to study hard to get an A, but all upper level sciences require that. She is very passionate and loves to teach. Definitely recommend her for Organic Chemistry. Ann is awesome
Incredible teacher! So refreshing to find one so passionate about her work and more importantly the success of her students. Tests are really tough. There's no guessing or kind of understanding. You must know the material. Her handouts and class instruction are exceptional! Must come to class. Do the assigned textbook problems and you'll make an A.
She is helpfull and patient with everyone. Very clear of expectations and instruction. Must come o class without miss if you wish to pass. No multiple choice questions on any exams! Must do practice problems if you want clear understanding of material. best teacher
If you picture your ideal teacher, she will pop in your head. She guides you till the very end.But she does nothold your hand.she stands for integrity and you really get the grade you deserve.she has alot of test only for the students not to be overwhelmed by multiple chapter test.8 test plus final and lab work thats very short and easy, one lab final
She hands out her style of notes that are directly from the textbook. If you study that as well as do all your assigned HW, you will be get an A/B. Labs are tedious but do what is required. The test is not crazy difficult but if you study your material and you should be fine. She does not give extra credit at all so turn in and do everything.
print out the handouts they are needed. class was so easy. dont have to memorize anything. take her you will get an a
GREAT teacher! Very organized, clear instruction, helpful. I was terrified of Chemistry, and she made it fun!
Lab attendance IS mandatory, lecture is not. I took this in 5 wk summer term...never had chemistry before. She is EXCELLENT! She really, really cares about students' success and is so willing to help. She kept our very fast summer class right on track. Chemistry background or not, I highly recommend her!
Dr. Van Heerden is an outstanding professor with a real passion for teaching. Her exams are not ones where you regurgitate the covered information; you have to use what you've learned to solve related problems. Takes the time to thoroughly explain the lessons and uses the class just prior to the exams to address student concerns.
Hard grader, hard exams and can be arrogant at times..she is very proud of what she is. Passionate and very punctual don't miss any class, don't take the class lightly she will make u strive very hard, study study study!!
I like her as a person but I felt that her homeworks were too long. This took alot of my study time. We had owl(online chemistry homework)and paper homework. Together we had about 150 homework questions due before the exam. This took alot of my study time. Her study guides were very helpful. The online homework took most of my time. exams not eaSy
Lectures are spent going through study guides that she provides. There's alot of teaching each other and learning on your own, but she'll go out of her way to help you if you visit during office hours. Homework (textbook/online) is required and takes up way too much time. Helpful for some I'm sure but it put a major dent in study time. Hard tests.
She just postedbthe grades . I hated the homeworks. I would have done better if i had time to study. unfortunately the homeworks were just too much that I didnt have enough time to study. Not taking her for Ochem 2. Definitely not. she doesnt curve at all so know that. Its her strict policy
Shes a very nice person and a really good teacher. Took her for Intro to Chem and she helped me out a lot. Her tests are hard worded but if you ask her she will help you out alott on the test. Shes a really nice teacher, enjoyed taking her!
she is not fair to all of her students. She teaches as though her students are still in high school. Her grading is very subjective.
She is a great professor. She does everything to help her students. I highly recommend her. Take her if you can!
This class was suppose to be hybrid, it might as well be a regular class. If you are not a master at chemistry DO NOT TAKE HER! The time you come to class all you do is lab so you have no time to ask questions she crams 5 labs in one day. Test are hard. She doesn't give you textbook problems, She makes up her own elements and test you on them.
I was nervous about taking her hybrid class but it went much better than I expected! Her tests are not the easiest tests, but if you do the study guides and textbook problems then you should do well! She is very helpful and concerned about her student succeeding. I can't say enough great things about Professor Van Heerden!
Best professor I've ever had. She provides very helpful packets that follow her lectures and 90% of that material is on the test. Just study the packets, do the homework, make flashcards, and you will make a good grade. The labs a bit tedious and she can be a hard grader on the reports. But overall she is wonderful. TAKE HER.
She's the best teacher ever. Organic chem is hard but she makes it so clear and easy to understand. Made all As in her exams. Take her or you would regret!
So I took this class as a hybrid online class her class involves a lot of work 8 test 1 cumulative final and 1 lab final. She is such a hard grader. No extra credit no bonus and no multiple choice. I worked my butt off for this class on top of working a full time job. I ended up with an 89 in the class and she still gave me a B woulnt recommend!
I took her as hybrid class. She honestly made me love chemistry. I would totally recommend her. Took her for intro to chem and im sad she's not teaching general chem. She is so helpful and is there for you when you have questions. She's such a sweetheart!
I took this class as a hybrid class, where the lecture portion online was through D2L and we met for lab once a week. She is very organized and very clear about grading, test dates, and what work to do when to turn in on time. The videos that accompany the study guides are a must. As long as you do the work, you won't have trouble in the class.
Ann is a great teacher and really cares about her students, I would definitely recommend every student take one of her classes.
Hybrid Class. I didn't need the book, but a lot of my classmates did. Watch the online videos, it will have everything you need, and if not she is great about answering the questions weekly. LOTS of tests, but she is great in making sure you are prepared. I wish she taught Gen Chem. Would love to have her as my teacher again. Actually learned
Hybrid course. She follows the syllabus. Videos follow the study guides she provides. Practice the problems from the textbook. She's will help you with anything if you ask. Exams are very easy if you watch the videos and practice the problems. In class, we had 2 labs per day, 8 exams, 1 Lab exam and 1 Final exam. I highly recommend this professor!
She is absolutely wonderful! I never thought I would love and understand organic chemistry like this. Not only did she help students succeed, but she made lectures interesting. I looked forward to class and the exams, because I actually understood the material. It's not an easy class, but if you put in the effort it is very do-able.
Dr. Van Heerden is a very caring and passionate professor. She is always willing to go the extra mile for her students.
Dr. Van Heerden is a very passionate and caring professor that truly cares about what she does. She's created these study guides in order to organize and teach the material in a very clear and concise way. Also, she truly wants you to learn from lab. She gives great feedback on lab reports and how to improve. All open response tests. TAKE HER!!!
Although Professor Heerden seems "nice and helpful" on the surface, don't be fooled. I suspect that most people who seemed pleased with her class were probably pleased with getting a B. No matter how hard you work, you will be fortunate to get an A, and she will admit this. You have to write crazy essays on the tests, and she makes tons of mistakes
Amount of homework is unreal! So voluminous & time consuming you won't have enough time to study the material for the exams. Impossible to meet her expectations on lab reports. No curve or extra credit. Cumulative final. You will know the material! Lots of memorization. Hardest A ever earned. Good lecturer & good handouts/study guides. Would Avoid
Lovely Professor! Very kind and caring. You must work hard for your grade however. You must do the practice problems/study guide and study both prior to exam day in order to pass this course and as well do the weekly assigned homework. Do so and you should be fine. The course isn't hard, Its just a-lot of work.
The hardest class i have ever taken. her expectations are way to high for an intro to chem class. Avoid taking her at all costs!
Van Heerden is an absolute gem. Listen, if you're not willing to put in work, and you're just trying to ease your way through college, stop. I'm seeing a lot of reviews that are full of hate because this class wasn't easy. We don't need people like that in the science/engineering field. Go get an office job if that's your mindset. Great professor.
Although the exams and labs looks heavy, it is a good way to help you to break down the workload. Her manual lab and study guides along with the video lectures are clear enough for me to study and prepare well for the exams. I do not use textbook, it just need for more practicing the problems on textbooks. Great Professor!
Professor is caring and wants you to be successful. The needs to update technique because projector to white board is hard to follow. The lab is poorly explained and ran. The lab reports are graded anecdotally, grading criteria is changed mid-semester. Needs to grade on structure not "wording". The poor grading on lab report is why I got a B.
Took as an 8week course, it was really intense but the professors is super organized & will go the extra mile to ensure you pass. Weekly exams, multiple labs on lab days & tests are completed either in the testing center or in class. Do the study guides as you watch her lecture videos, do practice problems in the textbook for further practice.
Seemed intense at first, kinda wanted to drop out. Eventually felt silly because the work was EASY, just so much in 8wks. Only reason I got an A was because I did work daily for this class to not stress out. Must do Study Guides And -I only did odd- book problems. My table made a group chat, we helped one another &helped each other w home labs!
I had read the reviews before I took it but I wanted to see it myself and I should have believed them because this class was the hardest I had ever taken. This class cost a lot and I regret taking it and if you want to learn chemistry and do well on it DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
Ann was an amazing professor! I took her foe an 8 week hybrid class and it was the best decision I've ever made. She is very picky when it comes to her grading style but in the end she does it to help you out! Her videos were amazing but you have to do the practice problems in the textbook in order to pass! Stressful class but loved ann!
I took her 8 weeks class, and it was awesome. I spend a lot of time on homework and got through the exams easily. To pass her class, you should show up all the time and do the lab. If you want to learn more in Chem, take her.
The teacher may give a lot of homework but this is a science class so it's expected. She is really supportive of her students and wants everyone to do well. This summer we had the opportunity to have a few Webex video chat sessions with the teacher. Yes, lots of reading and 9 test but she goes over each study guide on the videos that are on D2L.
I am taking this class during the pandemic, completely online. She has made this class so straightforward and easy to take, I wish I could have her as my professor for all of my classes. She is well organized and you can tell how much she cares about her students learning. Watch the lectures and do the homework, youll be set. She is amazing.
I would take this class again in a heartbeat. She was the most organized professor I have had and she cares about her students. There is a bit of work but the work will help you on the exam and CHEM 101 assignments. She is a quick responder and fast on adding grades the the grade book. TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Professor Ann is an amazing Professor, submit things on time and she will the best thing possible. I loved her class, and her great labs and activities you can just do at home.
She records videos and provides study guides to go along with the recorded videos. I can tell she wants her students to do well and has a passion for chemistry. However, sometimes it feels a little obsessive and overbearing. I wanted to drop the class but she offered help and things I needed to work on. Overall, I did better than I thought.
This class even being an introductory course class was very difficult. Especially taken as an 8-week course was homework heavy. Time management is key to passing this class. The professor is honestly the best professor Lone Star has to offer. Professor Ann works with you as long as you are trying in the class. Very caring professor.
This professor is so mean. She hates to see you succeed. She frustrates her students effort by deducting grades at any given opportunity. DO NOT TAKE HER
I highly recommend this professor. I had to take her twice, but the second round had more structure. As long as you keep up and do the assignments on time (earlier the better), this class should be exciting. DON'T PROCRASTINATE. She definitely keeps tabs on her students to make sure we are making the grade we deserve.
Well-organized gets back to you quickly. Wish she took more time with questions I had throughout the course instead of brushing me off and just jumping around students. I could've saved a lot of time and effort if she would just point me in the right direction, but it always felt like an inconvenience to her and I did not appreciate that.
This is chemistry so it's difficult but the professor has a clear syllabus throughout the semester. There are videos for you to watch and follow with a study guide and if you manage to do this and understand then you will be fine. You will spend a lot of time on this class so keep that in mind.
Professor Ann was wonderful. She always kept us engaged and explained labs very thoroughly. She was always eager to help and responds fast to emails. She is a tough grader and has a lot of exams though. She will work with you if you try in her class. You can only miss one class, or you automatically fail.
Mrs. Ann Van Heerdan is a great professor! I would definitely recommend taking her class. Her lecture video were extremely helpful for exams and she is very organized.
Honestly, she's the best professor I've ever had at Lone Star in general. Her coursework is manageable and always provides great feedback on your labs and exams. Whenever you have a question/concern, she is extremely accessible. If you have to take chemistry, I highly recommend taking her course -- you will not regret it.
Dr Heerden is a good professor if it comes to passion in chemistry. However, the amount of work & exams ruined my schedule. She was a very strict grader, which means if you did not prepare for the weekly tests then you are screwed. No retries in exams or extra credit. Exams are proctored, so good luck if it comes to the hard subjects of chemistry.
I wouldn't recommend taking this during a summer session because the workload is insane. She responds to emails fast and will even do Webex meetings for tutoring if needed. The key thing to succeed in this course is time management. You will need A LOT of time. All that aside, she's a great professor and knows what she's doing.
I will say DO NOT take her during the summer. The amount of work that has to be turned in DAILY is insane. There are multiple assignments due DAILY. There are also multiple exams a week. There are 9 exams total including the final, she is a very hard grader. She is organized and wants you to pass, take her for 16 week instead and you will pass!
8w course- for average and above chem student, alot of work but so ez, trust. All the works are posted so u can work ahead. Lockdown browser- not hard if u put in the work so WATCH HER LECTURE VIDEO& do the STUDY GUIDE cuz some ?s will appear in the exam & pay attention to the lab cuz there'll be 1-2 questions ab it. Love the professor& this class!
Professor Heerden goes above and beyond for all of her students. She is quick to respond to emails and provides amazing feedback. I took her 8 week hybrid class and everything was organized well. Overall she is very caring and provides a lot of resources to ensure your success.
I took this as a summer mini-semester. It is A LOT of work, something was due every day. Professor Heerden had her online lectures and reviews set up so you can follow along as you work. I usually don't do well in my science classes but I would retake her class.
This Chem 1405 course was challenging but the professor helped me push through and I made a B. Now I am onto taking Chem 1411. Great professor who challenged and pushed me the whole semester. Awesome course.
Professor Heerden is an amazing professor. Took her 8-wk fully online course. Something was due every single day, so get ready to work. Tip: watch her "extra help" videos if you want that A. She clearly explains the content and provides practice throughout the video too! For online labs, she gives helpful feedback as well. Highly recommend!
I do not recommender her she alwasy caught me off guard on the test. It alwasy have some tricky questions or something that you need to review your lab, assignment study guide everything to achieve 100. I would not want to taker her ever again. One question include 6 options in test so gud luck with that.
The best professor I have ever taken. Genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Very warm and enthusiastic, accessible outside of class. I took her 8 week CHEM 1405 course and I have always been slow at chem. However, she paced the workload so that everything was manageable. 8 tests, 8 F2F labs, 8 online labs, 1-4 modules of hw.
Professor Ann is amazing! She truly cares for your success and is very responsive. I took her for an 8-week hybrid class, and if you do her study guides, the aktivchem, and the labs you will do well. She also goes out of her way to make sure you know how to access tutorials if you are struggling. If you're willing to put the work in, take her!
Best professor I've had yet. I took her hybrid 8 week class with no real chemistry background knowledge and did well all semester. There was work due almost daily but as long as you stay on top of everything (which she makes super easy with constant reminders) you'll be fine. Totally recommend her.
