Very good speech professor. She kept the class fun and entertaining. The time flew by, we even got to have class out side at times. She will even meet with you outside of class if you need to practice you speech. Just beware she likes improve speeches.
Very good teacher, liked her style very much- made the class enjoyable. Make sure if you are taking her speech class, that you look up when doing a speech, and use note cards also.
Such an easy class. She has dry humor, which is actually pretty funny. The notes are pretty boring, but she tries hard and is good about responding to e-mails and easy to get a hold of out of class.
She was a GREAT professor. You can always go in and ask her for help and she is always willing to help or talk about grades. She also makes lectures interesting and fun.
Ann was an excellent professor! She is really nice and always wants to help. The class was a lot of fun and very interesting. She makes it a comfortable setting to give speeches. Fun and enjoyable class!
Prof. Vogel was very patient and helpful. The course was not very difficult if you went to class and paid a little attention, but some of the points it covered are useful for the future.
She was somewhat vicious regarding grading, especially knowing that this is a REQUIRED General Education class, I'd think she'd be a bit more lenient. I did two good speeches, and she ripped them both to shreds.
I hate giving speeches but she made the class fun. You only have to give 2 formal speeches by yourself, a group presentation, and a 5 page paper(I still don't get that). she is very friendly and easily approachable. Only one bad thing, if there is ever extra time in class you will have to IMPROVE!!
I loved Ann as a prof. she made the class environment very comfortable and laid back. I loved giving speeches and learned a great deal at the same time.
Prof. Vogel is a very fun, perky teacher - she's stern, but in a helpful and not pushy way. Enjoy her class a lot.
Ann was a great teacher! Always willing to help and she understood that public speaking is scary for many people. She kept the class as informal as possible while still being professional.
Great teacher. As long as you pay attention in class she is willing to help. It is fun watching her deal will the bad seeds; you know their in trouble when they are taken out of class :-)
This class was fairly easy, but the problem i had was if you needed more time, you could tell Vogel before you gave your speech, and it was ok, no points taken off... Well, somwhere along the line, she forgot that she did this every time, and would still mark -10 pts for going over the time limit, even though she just got done saying it was ok. BS!
Being very nervous of public speaking, I actually enjoyed her class. She kept it informal and comfortable, yet it was structured in a way that you still learned what was necessary. I really enjoyed her class.
Boring, but it's hard to make a speech class exciting. Especially when all you do is take notes about the types of speeches you are about to give.
Good lady. Very considerate. Says it like it is. Class is really boring though but then again, its speech. What can ya do...
I was so scared to take this class but Ann made it not only bearable but enjoyable. She really cares about her students and will do anything to help someone who wants to learn. She's a cutie!
She is really nice, and she is a really good teacher. She presents info in an effective manor and she actually has a sence of humor
really a nice person but a hard grader!
She is a good speech teacher. She is very nice and makes you comfortable. My only problem with her was her tests. You need to memorize a bunch of crap that really doesn't make you a better speaker.
She makes her class sound easy, but she is a tough grader. You have to have your speeches completely memorized to get a good grade on them. (statistics and all)! She's friendly but it's really hard to get a good grade in her class. She tests are all essay so you have to memorize everything. Good Luck!?!?!?
don't be fooled. she makes this class seem really easy, relaxed and fun. If you don't memorize your speeches, you get points off. there's not even points for effort. make sure your outlines are EXACTLY how she wants them. i got points off for things she suggests.good luck with her 14 essay question exams. you don't get points for trying. good luck
What?! I had her to and her whole thing is to not memorize or read, just know your stuff and use notes for litle cues. i did fine and I hate public speaking!
Really easy class! Just practice your speeches and listen in class and you'll pass with flying colors!
So genuinely nice!
Excellent teacher. Gets to know class well, always available to talk to. Very modern teacher with numberous pop culture (South Park) references!Kept things contemporary & fun. Easy class if you attend to attempt a speech with mandatory outline. Exams are short answer but quite simple. Highly recommend this teacher (a comm 111 is required)
She's a very tough grader and doesn't really give you any room for error..if you don't do it her way or use her ideas, it seems like she grades less favorably. My best reccomendation is to take Comm w/ someone else!
I love Ann Vogel. She is a great teacher and the class flies by. As long as your speeches follow the criteria that they are supposed to, you should do fine. Her exams are also easy if you just study the night before. I would definitely recommend taking her over any other Communications teacher.
She is extremely nice and always willing to help. She has guidelines for what she wants to see in speeches... if you follow them, you'll do great! I thought I would hate speech, but she makes it fun. Time flys by.
Ann is a good teacher at times, but then it seems like she is out to get you. Her exams are very hard, make sure you write everything your thinking because if you don't write a lot you will fail! She is great at the beginning of the class and then becomes a very stingy grader...good luck!
Ann Vogel, is a very sweet lady. She's funny and always has great stories to share. However, her exams can be really difficult.. you may think you recieved a good grade but, just wait until you actually see it. Theres a good chance you might be suprised on the deperessing outcome.
She puts study guides online way before the exams....if you read the book a bit and go to class you'll be ok! She's kind of goofy.
Ann is a great teacher to have for Comm 111. As long as you put in a good effort into doing your speeches you are sure to get a good grade. Good group activities. The midterm and final exam is 100% writing but as long as you read and clarify what you are talking about then you shouldnt have a problem. I managed to get a 68% on the midterm... :/
Shows she cares, from being prepared for class, being easy to get hold of outside of class, to not dressing like she's a mechanic like so many others around here! I lost count on how many purses/bags she has!
She is great!!! You don't want to miss out having her as a professor!!!
Started offas a good teacher, but by the end of the semester everyone hated her! Her grading on speeches is ridiculous and has stupid reasoning. Thinks going way above and extremely beyong only warrants and A. I disagree a lot with some of the things she says.
Ann is a great professor, she really knows what she's talking about. Her grading is clearly outlined on a rubric of how she grades her papers and speeches. If you're willing to put in the effort, she can be a very good teacher. Serious when she needs to be but likes to joke.
She's a good professor with teaching things, and she's organized and everything, but she is a very hard grader. I agree with the other comment that she believes you have to go above and beyond to earn an A in the class. I probably would have taken someone else just because of how she grades speeches and exams.
Ann is just amazing. She's funny and interesting, and made the walk all the way to the A&C worth it. She isn't too hard of a grader, as many other people are saying, but she's not super lenient about it either. Class was interesting, I learned a lot. Speeches were less terrifying than I thought they'd be as well. Great professor, I recommend her!!
Ann is super nice, but don't be fooled into thinking the class is easy. Emphasis is put on the speeches being extemporaneous. The midterms are written and a bit challenging to study for. However, if you put in the effort and follow the guidelines the class is very enjoyable!
Vogel is a one of a kind teacher, i enjoyed class with her and the only reason i dont see someone else enjoying her is because she isnt a pushover, she expects you to know your stuff but dont be intimidated.
She's an awesome teacher and not boring. You only have to give three speeches and two essay exams. She is very willing to help. I'd take her again.
She is a very good professor. She makes an 8am class not that bad. Exams are easy as long as you study and take notes in class. And you dont have to try very hard in class to get a passing grade. I'd take her again.
Ann is an excellent teacher. She is also very entertaining and held my interest during lectures. The work load for 3 weeks was a lot but Ann still managed to make the class tolerable. I totally recommend her.
Interim course. Was absolutely dreading taking this class, but Ann is the greatest comm professor I could have asked for! She made me feel comfortable speaking in front of class. The final exam is not too bad at all if you put in some study time. Just put some effort into the class and you should do fine. So glad I had Ann as a professor!
Dr. Vogel is very knowledgeable about this subject. She is easy going and kind. As long as you read the text book you will do well on the exams. Make sure to practice your speeches and ask for more time if needed. Grading is fair.
Ann is interesting and funny. Only 3 graded speeches in the class. She grades fairly but not many A's are given. Exams are fairly easy just read and use the study guide provided.
Ann is a GREAT prof she gives you three chances to be absent w/o affect your grade. She is very easy. You have 4 speeches that are timed that are a breeze. You even get a chance to get EC by doing a unplanned speech abt anything you want. There are random quizzes abt what you read the night before.(VERY VERY RARE) Plus she dresses her ass off!!!
Most helpful teacher EVER! She will go over your speech with you before you have to give it and help you to improve it. She is so nice and will do anything to help you. You can miss up to 3 classes before it affects your grade. Best teacher at UWO! Take her class!
Very nice and very funny. She's very understanding could probably get along with anyone. Also has a better fashion sense than most art majors.
ANNE IS A BOSS. I hate speech and I loved this class. She makes class so fun!
I LOVED ANN! She was a great professor and was very helpful if you ever had any questions. Do your work and participate in class and you should do just fine. Be sure to study your notes from her power points for the exams. If you don't enjoy speaking in front of people and have to take this class, I recommend Ann as a professor for you! :)
Awesome professor, lots of fun in class, open to talk about anything. Great sense of humor and realizes we're all college students who want to have fun. Very helpful study guides (the class suggested potential exam questions and most good q's were used). If you get the opportunity to mention day drinking, do it. She should get a laugh.
What an incredible person. I wish all my profs were like her! If you're in it, she's with you and will help in any way possible. She drove 120 miles round trip (my observation, not hers) on a Saturday to lend me a textbook when I lost mine.
Obsessed with her! So NICE without being a pushover. It was sad but fun seeing how she dealed with people who misjudged kindness with dumbness. I learned a lot and not just about speeches.
Great teacher and She makes class really fun. Grades kind of hard on speeches but the tests are really easy.
Ann is a really hard grader on speeches, so don't think you can get by with writing them the night before and getting an A. However, her tests are easy and she is an awesome teacher. Very funny and easygoing, she really made me enjoy speech class!
This was a fantastic class. It has become one of my favorites. I waited as long as I could to take this gen ed, but Ann made it into a really fun class. She makes the class feel like a team, and honestly you're not graded on perfection. So you end up realizing there was no reason to be nervous in the first place! You have to put forth effort/study.
I took this class in interim which was really great only 3 speeches. I was really nervous to do public speaking but Ann was really great in helping me gain confidence. Ann is crystal clear in her lectures makes expectations for speeches clear and had an essay final exam. She is very helpful and accommodating with any issues you may have.
I literally love Ann. She is so chill and so nice. I love the open discussion in her class and you can say what you want without feeling bad about it. I recommend her compared to any other speech teacher. I have heard nothing but negative things about the other teachers and I can't say enough good things about her.
As someone who doesn't enjoy public speaking, I really enjoyed her class. I do think that my public speaking was improved, thanks to this class. She's very easy to talk to and joke around with. She clearly enjoys her job. Highly recommend having her for a teacher!
Ann is very strict on deadlines and grading papers. Citing and sentence structure is very important to this teacher.
Class was 7 weeks. Required multiple 10 page essays. Received paper back with a note saying that there was nothing I could improve on and I still only got a 99100.
An involved prof. Responds to emails and calls very quickly and grades quickly as well. I know she read every word of my papers and exams because she edits a LOT and offered more feedback on my writing than any other prof I've had. I learned a lot. She also encourages you to call her if you don't live on campus or stop in to see her if you do.
Makes class interesting and is very clear about what she expects on each speech! Fair grader when it comes to speeches, if you rehearse you will get the grade you deserve, if you wing it, she'll probably know but just hope you're good at speaking. 4 speeches and two tests! Also offers some extra credit
Ann is awesome she is super cute and always wears a dress, she is nice and thoughtful she cried every speech I gave and I am no Ghandi
Ann is a great teacher! You have three speeches, two tests and a reflection paper for the entire semester. She is very clear of what she expects and if you try you will receive the grade you deserve. Really easy to talk to and helps out with all of the assignments if you go to her for help!!!!
Ann is probably the best professor I've had at UWO. She's incredibly nice, she tells you exactly what she expects, and she gives really good feedback. She's also super funny and tells awesome stories. She was good at getting the class involved with the lectures and she really cares about her students. 11/10, wish she taught in my major.
Awesome lady! Makes class enjoyable and is a very reasonable teacher. She's realistic and is always there to help if you need it. Makes it easy to speak in front of the class.
Super nice. A little quirky at first but once you get to know her a little bit you'll grow to like her.
Ann is a sweetheart! She has gone out of her way to check in on me and see if I was doing okay, which was much appreciated. You can skip 2 classes without it hurting your grade, which is pretty awesome. 3 speeches, midterm and exam. Class participation is huge.
She is amazing easy A
Entertaining lecturer, harshest grader ever. We only had a few things to do but her expectations are unrealistic and absurd.
One of my favorite professors I've had. Her lectures were fun to listen to and she was quite funny at times. She is a fair grader on speeches and is clear with what she expects. She'll let you see her one on one to practice your speech and let you know what went well and what to work on. Take her if you have the chance. I loved going to class!
I really did like this class, considering it was public speaking, but the surprise group speeches at the end of some days was not fun. So, if you're good at impromptu speeches, this is the class for you. But if you like a good amount of preparation before speaking in front of a group, she may not be the best professor for you.
Ann encouraged me to believe in myself as a nontrad single parent...
Hard class and tough grader
I had Ann as a professor for Comm 111. I really enjoyed her class. The discussions were often engaging and she is very approachable and encouraging. There wasn't any homework and only three speeches, a paper, and two exams. You get to pick your own topic for speeches, so pick what excites you. This was my favorite class of the semester.
Professor Ann is very up beat overall super happy person. Her grading is very clear you work for what you want which isn't all that hard. She gives out a few extra credit which is very nice. Her exams are so difficult. There's no multiple choice, every question requires a short written up answer to the questions which is the difficult part.
Ann was one of the best profs I've ever had. Lectures were entertaining to listen to and she was very funny. She shows a great deal of energy and is very caring towards her students. She's a tough but very fair grader on speeches. As long as you show up, participate in class, and put some effort into your work, you should get at least an A/B+
Midterm was really hard, 10 random short answer questions and she didnt give us anything to study
Ann is extremely disrespectful and passive-aggressive towards her students. She takes herself too seriously while in reality she teaches a class that is just a rehash of high school English.
I took COM111 with Ann and she is a pretty cool person but not a great professor. She brought her dog in which was nice. She is a very hard speech grader and her feedback is rude.
Ann was approachable, organized, and clear before COVID-19. She was also when we went 100% online. She checked in if you weren't in touch and if you were. She was an ear when I needed to talk when no one else seemed to be listening and she also reminded me what I needed to do to succeed. Thank you Ann!!!!
Great professor, and was always so fun in lecture. She makes speech class enjoyable and helps you out if you need anything. She only makes you do 3 speeches in total, and as long as you enjoy your topic you speak on, have good eye contact, and turn in your outline, she will give you a good grade. Gives extra credit at the beginning of semester too
Ann Vogel is very good at lecturing, she knows that what she is teaching can be boring but she knows how to make it fun. She does like class participation so be ready for that. Overall she is one of my favorite teachers this semester.
You do NOT need your textbook so do not waste your money. I will give her the benefit of the doubt that she does care about your mental health so if you need an extra day she will allow that. On the contrary, the harshest grader with papers and is very disrespectful lacking motivation with her students. If you skip class you automatically will fail
Vogel seems to grade a little tough but overall shes great with two exams that were essay and 2 papers.
she was okay, she was helpful and responded to my emails quickly. However, I dont think its fair for how many points she takes off when you ask for more time on an assignment. Shes the only prof i ever had that took points off when i asked for more time, i understand taking some points off but she takes off alot so just get your work done on time
Anne always comes into class with a smile and is prepared but experienced enough to go in a different direction if necessary. Clear lectures and assignment guidelines, follow them and you'll do well! Very dry sense of humor which I'm enjoying
This was the worst class I have ever taken. It was a 7 week course and she assigned the largest assignments to be due over thanksgiving break, there were many large busy work assignments for this class. This was the first time I had this professor and from this experience I would not suggest anyone else take them in the future.
Ann was an amazing professor. She truly shows she cares about her students. Gave plenty of time to prepare for speeches and throughly explained what the exams would be. Responds to emails fast and is always willing to help, unless you wait last minute. Made class fun and encouraged group discussions.
