Shes new to nova, but she knows the subject. there isn't much work except in class writings and participation. There is only two exams: midterm and final. Also there is a project. It can get really boring sometimes. Shes helpful if you have questions but it can be left to your interpretation since its a class about eastern religions
Great teacher. Attendance is important, as participation is a big grade. But she is very clear about what you need to know. She does a good job of making abstract material relevant and easy to follow. Pretty enjoyable class overall.
She is amazing!! The way she grades and teaches is simply the best! Participation is worth a lot in this class so just do the class writing and you'll be sure to get an A. She makes the class interesting by using powerpoint and other resources
Just had her for World Religions in America. She is amazing, super nice and her class is so easy! Class participation consists of opinionated in-class writings at the end of each class. Text book quizzes every week. Her study guides are so helpful for the exams. And there are two super easy papers. There's no reason you shouldn't get an A!
She is so nice, and helpful. Two very easy exams and a project, and in class writing that it's just how you interpreted what you learnt. Very easy and very interesting subject. Sometimes it gets boring if you are tired but bring coffee, lol. Attendance is very important and do HW and study the study guides and you will be fine.
She is a great professor. There's a weekly quiz, 2 papers, and 4 exams (including the final). She lectures for half the class and then we would watch a video. She is extremely helpful and supportive. Wants you to succeed! She tries to initiate discussion too. Take her and you won't be disappointed. But, attendance is mandatory! Not for the LAZY!
Very nice woman, fair grader, easy to follow her lectures. She shows one or two short clips every class. There are 8 quizes online. She offers extra credit if you attend more classes then necessary. 2 tests, midterm and final (noncumulative). 1 paper, very easy. 3-4 pages. highly reccomend!
Great professor! I had her for Religions 231 & now 232. She's extremely helpful & tries to make the class a bit more interesting for everyone. If you read the pages assigned, you'll do good in her quizzes. There's only two tests & the experience project (which I really enjoyed!). Overall, really nice teacher. Take her! :)
Great professor! Attendance is helpful for participation points! Loved the class!
Class material was easy, but her lectures are very boring. Online quizzes almost every Sunday, but they're REALLY easy (just use the textbook). The midterm & final were pretty easy as well, just a LOT of vocabulary to memorize. I would recommend her just because her class is easy. Her lectures are boring (in case you didn't get that)
LOVE HER! She is probably one of my favorite teachers at NOVA. Her lectures can be boring sometimes, but the material is really interesting. Two exams, midterm and final-- pretty much just vocabulary. Quizzes on reading on Sunday night, very easy. Attendance boosts up grade. I had no problem getting an A in this class.
She is a great professor!! She teaches this course in a way that makes it enjoyable to learn! Tests are easy and lectures are interesting as she does show a lot of clips!! One of the best professors I've ever had! Take her!
Pro. Wertman is a great professor. She is young and very understanding. You need the text book to do the quizzes, which are online and due by the end of each week. I suggest purchasing ebook so you can search for the answers much easier. There are 2 exams and 1 experience paper + presentation. Her tests are very straight forward w study guide
If you study a bit, you will get a good grade in her class. She has a good method for exams, her review packets are very complete. The experience paper is an interesting project.
Professor Wertman is a great instructor. She is young, enthusiastic and truly interested in what she is teaching. If you stay on top of the readings, you will do well on the weekly online quizzes. The experience paper and presentation were a lot of fun. The midterm and final are pretty straightforward. She is an awesome teacher!
Prof Wertman Is great; young, helpful, and knows her subject well. Videos shown every class for 20-30 minutes; must read book to do well on online quizzes. She is approachable in office hours. But I hated the experience paper. Midterm and final long, but you do get study guide. You can stay on top of work and do well., easy grader.
Great professor. Wish she could teach every subject!
loved her she was easy and i would totally recommend her in a heart beat.
I wish all of my professors were like Professor Wertman! Going into the class I was a little nervous because she said there were online quizzes every sunday. But she gives out study guides (which I love) & she explains everything so clearly/keeps the class in the loop. Totally recommend her!
Super nice person and fair grader she covers every religion with respect. Got an A for attendance for writing my opinion for the in class writing and didn't even speak which I regret because I felt rude not participating. There are 4 exams I got at least a 100% on all of them (offers EC on test). their are 8 online quizzes and a experience paper
Her class is very easy just show up and do her daily in class writings (they are a pain but it will count towards your attendance) USE YOUR BOOK FOR ONLINE QUIZZES. She posts quizzes every week and having a book is very useful. She is really nice gives study guides for her tests and all her tests have an essay portion. Take her!
Professor Wertman is the nicest professor you could ever have. Her lectures are extremely fascinating and she incorporates videos into every class. She is the best professor at NOVA by far. I learned so much about World Religion and loved her experience project at the end of the semester. I strongly recommend you take her class!
Professor Wertman is the nicest teacher you will have. Her lectures are interesting and the class discussions are as well. There are online quizes but if you use your book, they're easy. Do the study guides for her test, you will defiantly get an A. Loved her class!
This is the easiest class I've taken in my life. She gives you a study guide with all possible test questions. Extremely easy grader. I have over a 100% in the class and I barely studied for this. Very chill. The class itself is somewhat boring. She's a good teacher, but you'll never get passionate about this class. Take it for an easy A
Great Professor! Class is a little boring but Prof. is so kind, you don't mind. In class writing and online quizzes. Study guides provided for every test. If you don't get an A it your own fault!
Prof. Wertman is such a nice professor! There's an online quiz assigned pretty much every week but q's come straight from the text book. The 3 Exams are fairly easy. She provides detailed study guides before hand. The final is not cumulative. This was my first class with her and I plan to take another class with her next semester!
She's nice, straightforward class. Read the assigned chapters and you'll be fine! She doesn't ask anything over the top from you. Easy A in my opinion,
Very informative presentations. Uses videos (mostly BBC) that go beyond what's in the book. She definitely knows the subject, and presents each religion objectively. Investigates questions that she couldn't answer in class, and reports back. She just completed her PhD (April 2014). Okay to use earlier edition of text, she identifies the pages.
Excellent professor. Perfectly balances use of text, power-point, video, in-class writing, small group discussion, class participation and project. Prof Wertman presents each religion with knowledge and respect. Not an "easy" class (in the painfully boring way), but expectations for an A are clear and easily attainable. Don't be scared of project!
I loved taking Dr. Wertman's class, she' so kind and a pretty cool professor. She definitely has expertise in her field & it shows in her lectures. Start the Experience Project early so you can put together a good paper & smooth presentation (5 mins, don't stress). I loved this class, it was never uninteresting. P.S.: Don't forget to do the quizzes
This is my first review because I just ad to say what an excellent professor Dr. Wertman is. She is very clear with instruction and tests. This is a professor who really wants her students to learn the subject matter. And you'll be totally fine if you skip a few classes, everything goes onto blackboard. STRONGLY RECOMMEND.
She is amazing! Tests are right off the study guides and open book online quizzes weekly which are easy.. lecture is interesting and always shows videos.. definitely recommend her
Pro. Wertman is an easy going person who is very passionate about Religion. There are only eight open note quizzes (take home). There are four exams (the final exam is not cumulative). The amazing thing about her class is that she makes it go by fast and she doesn't drag out her lectures. She keeps your attention! P.s. she's also a fair grader!
Professor Wertman is a reasonable teacher and she is really nice. You have 4 tests and 8 online, open-note quizzes. She makes the subject interesting and she is a fair grader.
She is a great teacher. Her class is not boring and is found very interesting by many. There are 4 exams in the whole semester and if you show up to class and study a little you will get an A. NO HOMEWORK!
I took her 231 last semester and received an A. There are four exams, 8 quizzes (take homeopen book), and one Experience Paper! She is very passionate in her lectures and they are not boring. She keeps her students up-to-date on the due dates and helps her students any way she can! She was an amazing professor and so happy I had her for a year!
Dr. Wertman (Stegner) is one of the best professors I've had at NOVA. She's very passionate and makes lecture go by fast-- and that's saying something for a summer class that lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes. There are 8 quizzes, all of which are open book and note. As long as you do your reading and are present, you should do just fine.
The best professor you will have at Nova. Excellent style of teaching that inspires you to do well in the class. She gives you plenty of material to succeed in this class and there is no reason not get an A if you put in the effort. Do yourself a favor and take her class and you will actually take away something positive from a Nova class for once.
- Really good at answering e-mails and questions you may have. She does her best to be as clear as possible. - Textbook is a must. There are open book quizzes and exams are based on the reading and powerpoints (which she posts, along with study guide). - Lectures not too boring.
Awesome experience. Take her! Her lectures are clear and not too long. She does her best to make sure her students understand the material. Weekly quizzes with open notes. Her test are not hard. Just make sure you study the guide and get the basic concepts of each religion. The final project you are gonna have to visit a temple.
This woman is a gem, I took her two semesters in a row. Her lectures are interesting and helpful. Her exam study guides are everything you need to know for the exam. She is straight forward and respects her students. LOVE HER.
She's a very good professor &trys her best to answer any questions a student may have. Her tests were very simple, it is everything from the study guide. Just take good notes and studying from the study guide will be very easy. There are also weekly quizzes from textbook. For the final you have to go to a religious function not from your religion .
Great professor! Highly recommend! I learned a lot and the grading was simple, easy to understand and understandable.
Great class, not biased at all. She is a sweet heart and I actually was able to learn A LOT from her lectures. She makes it very easy to understand and encourages opinions and personal experiences. Exams are straight from the study guide.
She's cool but the class itself is so pointless. Why do I need to memorize a term that starts with probably? And she explores the religions at the surface so WHATS THE POINTS? She only gives 10 pts extra credit. If you don't show up to her class or are late, she'll take off points from participation grade. Quizzes are open book, but aren't easy.
She is the BEST professor ever. Her lectures are very clear and interesting. It is very clear about what is going to be on test, and before each test she gives study guides and basically whole test is from that... You have to show up to class and participation is important. Overall she is the best ,class is easy A if you show up and do study guide.
She is a great professor. She gives four tests which are not cumulative. She gives out a study guide before each test which is basically the test but you do have to study. She also gives online quizzes. There is also a project at the end where you have to visit a place of worship but not hard at all.
If you know everything on the study guides she gives, it's a guaranteed A. She is a pretty easy grader and she offers 10 extra credit points. Overall she was one of the best professors I have had and her class was one of the easiest. Her lectures are never boring & she is very respectful and caring. I highly recommend her, she was amazing.
She is very clear with the syllabus and her lectures are informative and encourages you to discuss your opinions with the class. Exams are from the study guide and not cumulative and questions are in a study guide on Blackboard. It is an easy A class if you attend regularly, follow the study guides and write an experience paper and a presentation.
Professor Stegner was a phenomenal teacher. Class was very straightforward. 8 online quizzes are due every other week but the answers are literally in the textbook. Also there is 4 tests but she gives a detailed study guide of whats going to be on it. The class is also huge on attendance, about 156 points comes from it so show up! GREAT TEACHER!
Prof. Stegner is amazing! She is super organized and genuinely cares. If you want to pass listen in class, take notes, and reading the book helps. The only thing I'd say is that she is particular about details on the quizzes and projects so watch out for that.
Love her. Her lectures are as if she's just telling you a story. She makes it interesting and easy to understand. Her study guides are exactly what's on the test. 8 online open book quizzes. 4 non-cumulative exams. 1 paper/presentation. I got a 100% on every single test and quiz. She's so nice. I can't recommend her enough.
She was one of my favorite professors this semester, she gives extra credit, 8 online quizzes, 4 tests including the NON-cumulative final, she was very inspirational when it came to religion and she had a lot of knowledge! Definitely recommend her!
Very interesting material, great professor. She is professional; uses power point but breaks up lectures with individual & group activities, and uses doc clips from youtube. She also navigated awkward situations and sensitive subjects with professionalism, objectiveness and common sense. LOVE her!
Professor Stegnar is my favorite professor this semester! She's so nice and her exams a pretty easy since she provides a study guide. Quizzes are online & are open book. There's a project towards the end of the semester, which wasn't too bad. Overall, I loved her and would definitely recommend!
AMAZING professor! She puts up study guides on BB , do those and you'll get an A on the exams! Best part the final isnt cumulative !!!!! and she gives extra credit opportunities
Prof was awesome! She is super kind and understanding. We had 6 quizzes based off the textbook and 2 exams based off lectures.
If you are considering taking REL 231, please take her. She is the best professor you probably have seen. She gives very little homework every week, taking about half hour or so. She is so sweet and respectful of every religion and culture. I was very lucky to have her.
She's a really great professor. She posted study guides on Blackboard and had open book online quizzes every week. There was one project which was really easy. I'd definitely take her again!
Not the best professor I've taken, tests are very difficult, must write 2 full page essays, and a lot of vocabulary words to memorize.
Take this professor. She is honestly sooooo educated in religion it's crazy. She goes into lots of detail and lays everything out in a way that is so easy to understand. This class requires lots of memorization (terms) but she is so great at explaining everything so it's easy to understand. Midterm and final were challenging but manageable.
Prof. Stegner is really nice. She teaches so good and makes everyone to involve in the class. She gives quizzes every two weeks in blackboard, but if you study the textbook, those are really easy. She gives study guides for exams and those are pretty easy too. Would definitely recommend her.
You won't regret taking Ann. She lays out all expectations without confusion. I learned so much about religions from her class. Favorite class of semester. She is VERY on top of things, which is important for me. Great slides. Quick to get back to you. She is respectful of all religions. Her study guide tells you everything that will be on exam.
One of the best professors I've had at NVCC. Super knowledgable and I like how we discussed a lot of different things in class. This course gave me a new perspective on religion and I learned so much. Midterm/Final were not too difficult because of all of the resources on blackboard. The lectures are very helpful when studying.
She's really nice and well-informed. Her tests are super easy, look at the studyguide! You write short paragraphs at the end of every class and discuss them with your peers. Great slides. Has you read the textbook, but her texts are based solely on whatever is on her PowerPoints. One project which is a 4 page paper + a presentation. Take her :)
She's a solid choice! She knows what she's talking about during lectures and encourages students to write about the topics at the end of class. Attendance is mandatory for both attendance + participation grade. She provides study guides for the exams and exams are easy. 1 presentation + 1 project paper at the end of semester but overall easy A
I took her hybrid course and I heard many people say "oh don't take a hybrid course, it's harder" but honestly, Prof. Stegner is one of the sweetest teacher and chill teachers. If you study her powerpoints and read the assigned chapter you will pass her class, honestly easy A
She was really great! Very easy course, the textbook was only for our OPEN BOOK quizzes. She would post study guides for our tests which HELPED A LOT. not much homework to do other than study and do the quizzes, only had one project to do, and even gave you a chance to get extra credit.
class is easy you just need to do the work that is given and you will pass with an A she was very smart and did give out extra credit to help with your grade
A real gem. She knows lots of people take this class for elective purposes but I learned a lot from her class. She is very knowledgeable. Class is broken down into 4 tests- very easy and study guide is given. 8 quizzes- online and open book. 1 project- really a fun project. Not gonna spoil it for u future students. And extra credit opportunity.
Best and easy professor I have ever taken in my life.
I wouldnt recommend taking her for a 6 week class. If you miss more than one class no matter what, its an automatic fail. The project she gives is interesting but puts you out of your comfort zone and I feel its not fair for some students. Lecture is just reading off of the slide. Study guides are 2 times the amount thats actually on the test.
Great
Wonderful professor. Her knowledge about religions is very strong, and lectures are interesting. Tests have study guides which helped a lot as their are a lot terms and facts. She assigns a project that allows you to explore a religion of your choice which was really fun. Really enjoyed class!
Prof. Stegner is a solid teacher, extremely knowledgable and kind. If you are willing to participate and take a pretty extensive midterm and final (in depth study guide provided) you will do well in her class.
Great professor! Lecture heavy, everything she talks about is on the powerpoint, which is great. You have almost 3 'free' absences, if you don't use them, they're used for extra credit. Easy A, just show up and do the weekly quiz and exam. Study guides for the exams are the literal test, so just memorize that. Very laid back professor!
Professor Stegner is an awesome person who really knows her stuff. There is a midterm, a final, and a project. Everyday you learn something different about each religion. There are three extra credit opportunities that I would take full advantage of. Study the study guides and those same questions or similar will be on the test.
Dr Stegner's class is so easy and very easy to understand. She has 7 reading quizzes and 8 discussion boards over the course of the semester which are all easy. Only 2 "exams" the midterm and final. In the Hybrid class however you have a lot of online material to go through too. Such an easy A.
Miss class 3 times and you fail, but her lectures are very interesting. The 7 quizzes given are very easy and answers can be found in the textbook. If you complete the study guides for the 2 tests you will pass with 100%. Her class is very easy if you show up and listen. She is very caring and will email you a day before assignments are due
Her class is overall good, gives you credit for attendance and participation. Her lecture are interesting but exam are a bit hard while she is also a tough grader. This course had to switch towards to online, she became a bit harsh when it came to all gradings. Wish she would be more lenient and understand with all the grading.
Material is interesting and she knows her stuff! Lots of vocab to remember. Tests are not difficult, but there is a lot to memorize. Print ppt. for every lecture, come to class ready to participate. Project to try a "NEW" religious experience of your choice and then write a paper about it. Worth a lot of points so make sure you don't wait!
Amazing professor! She is very clear about how you will be graded in the syllabus. I just finished the 6wk course this summer semester. Her exams and quizzes are all open note/textbook. As long as you take notes during lecture and read the assigned chapters, this is an easy A. She also gives a couple opportunities for extra credit.
Prof Stegner is amazing! Shes extremely knowledgeable and passionate about all the religions she teaches. 6 wk class was the easiest - all open exams, take GOOD notes, and attend the lectures! Textbook: optional.
Amazing teacher, she really cares about helping students. Her online class is easy to pass if you pay attention and prepare for her quizzes and exams. Not only that, but her lectures are easy to digest.
I LOVE Professor Stegner. You can tell she really enjoys what she teaches. However, get ready to WORK. There's a reading quiz every week and a discussion board post at the end of every chapter. She gives two major exams but she allows you to prepare before hand and use your resources on the exam. She reminds you of upcoming due dates and clear inst
Prof. Stegner makes all of the assignments really clear and always sends reminders to be sure things get done in time. She's really respectful when discussing religion and does a beautiful job explaining them. A lot of the writings are more so opinions and thought-provoking which lead to great discussion!
Dr. Stegner is an amazing professor and I HIGHLY recommend her. She is well-informed, lectures are very interesting. If you take notes, keep up with readings from the textbook for the quizzes and stay engaged, you should have no problem earning an "A". Be sure to prepare ahead with study guides by writing out everything beforehand. It pays off!
Had her Summer 2021 as a 6 week online class. As someone who prides myself in knowing about cultures, etc. - I did learn a lot & she was def there to support my learning in and outside of lectures. The content (videos) were good but old, etc & the book is definitely helpful. There is a fair amount of writing involved, but all doable.
I had her for summer as a 6 week online class and it was a lot of work to do however it was easy. 5 discussion boards , 5 quizzes the answers can be found on quizlet and other websites, assignments before class and during class so attendance is mandatory , and a 5 page paper as a project. Overall she was a amazing and understanding professor
Dr. Stegner is really nice and likable. Homework is simple and easy. Gives interesting lectures that sum up religions. There is one big assignment where we have to go to a place of worship/witness a service other than our own religion.
She was very understanding and nice. She did require Zoom meetings but there wasn't a lot of lecturing. Assignments were very easy and not time consuming. One extra credit assignment. 2 exams that are open-note. 5 page paper but is relatively easy. If you're looking for an easy-A class this is it. Very easy grader. Highly recommend!
Professor Stegner is amazing at what she does, and her teaching speaks volumes. There are 7 quizzes scattered throughout the semester, and if you read the textbook you'll be golden! However, she only has two exams (mid/final) and you have to pay attention in class to understand the questions she's asking. The study guides she provides helps a lot!
Is very respectful when it comes to others religions and her lectures are really interesting. Only class where I wish to have more homework in because of how interesting her lectures and videos she provides are.
Prof Stegner was an amazing and very understanding instructor. She offers extra cred and one "late pass" for the semester because she knows shit happens. There were two exams (mid/final) and they were open note with a study guide. There are 7 quizzes based on the textbook ( i didn't read) and still did well on them. there are a few disc boards tho
Prof Stegner was a great Professor! She is super kind and very understanding if you accidentally forget a quiz. Which I did. Lecture heavy but it's a good lecture and you do have weekly homework but it's super easy. Her quizzes and tests are also open note!
Sweet +respectful of all religions +There is weekly pre-class activity & inclass activity (participation pts) + 5discussion forums + 1long essay +relies on presentations +shows she enjoys subject+Willing to listen to opposing views+ to me she was a easy A w/ a fair amount of work. Answers any questions you have +Midterm & FInal+gives studyguide
I recently finished the 6-week online course, and she was great! There may be a lot of work (5 pre-class, 5 in-class, 5 discussion boards, and one 5 page paper as a project), but it's very easy! There are 5 quizzes that reflected the textbook, and two exams (midterm and final) reflected the lectures (all quizzes and exams are open note). TAKE HER!
Stegner is a great prof, easy grader too. Follow the directions of the assignments and you're good to go. The lecture is interesting and requires attendance as she includes an in class assignment each time you meet. Very easy to pass her class if you attend lecture and turn in work.
Very nice teacher I took her for REL 231 and 232 through zoom and she was really easy to talk to. Will get back to you fast.
Really enjoyed this class and learned a lot more about other religions. She was very knowledgeable and respectful while teaching about religions. There were a lot of assignments but there was a pattern for assignments that all religions followed, so there were no surprises. Major assignments; final (not cumulative), midterm, 7-page paper.
Professor Stegner was very respectful about all religions and made us comfortable learning about such a sensitive topic. Class was graded by discussion boards, midterm/final, a paper, and pre-class/in-class activity assignments. Extra credit given. Attendance in the lectures is incredibly important as not everything is on the slides. Great class.
Professor Stegner is definitely one of my favorite professors. She's well versed in her field and encourages questions. Her assignments are very simple and easy to follow since they're on a consistent schedule. If you have any concerns she's easily accessible outside of class and is willing to go above and beyond to help her students.
Professor Stegner is a great teacher! Easy extra credit options and many small assignments throughout the semester, but they go quick. One big paper and four exams, but everything was open-book and very reflective of lectures. You can be exempt from taking the final if you get a high enough grade. Lectures were interesting, many breakout rooms.
Dr. Stengner's class is excellent. I really learned about several religions of which I never heard. She found many YouTube videos about these religions that are very informative. She is very clear on grading criteria and expectations. I am looking for other courses that she teaches so I can take them.
I took a fast-paced Summer C for 6 weeks, When you take a fast pace class you would expect the class to have a lot of work and hard. Easy to get an A if you do the assignments and turn them in on time if you finish the study guide for the mid-term and final. not easygoing but has all characteristics of an amazing professor, TAKE HER SHE IS AMAZING
Gives lots of work but if you complete them youll get an A. I took a 6 week course so maybe thats why but shes chill. Her zooms are wayy too long and you have to have your camera on so that can get annoying but understandable. You have to keep up or youll fall behind. A 7/10 class.
Took her for a REL 100 course asynch and found this class to be very straight forward and productive! There is a lot of prep work (notes) for the quizzes and the exams are based off the quizzes. I genuinely learned a lot about religion and what makes something a religion. She is very accessible outside class through email and provides clear grading
Dr. Stegner is the best prof I've taken at NOVA. I went in thinking it'd just be a survey of different religions--it ended up being a rigorous analysis of different cultures, societies, and our own beliefs and assumptions. The class is a lot of work, but it's worth it. I leave more confident in understanding religions, as well as my own ideas.
Wonderful wonderful woman!! She is so caring for her students and if you're honest and understanding with her then she will be honest and understanding with you! This course does require a textbook but honestly you aren't in dire need of it to pass tests (just quizzes), and you'll most likely find a free one online!
Take her, you won't regret it!! I took her 13w class and can say that she doesn't ask for much. What to expect is you do pre-activities before class start, talking about what stood out to you, then you'll do in-class actives but a lot of sharing in break out room though. 6 quizzes, 4 exams, and one experience project paper( 5 pages) .
Great proffesors basically lays out the test for you. Love her so much easy A.
Professor Stegner makes this class engaging with interesting lectures and activities. While there's a fair amount of work, using resources like Unstuck ai and the free textbook can help you ace this class. Highly recommended!
Zoom Class- Two assignments every week, a reflection before class and one during class. There are also about 10 quizzes that are open book, and two exams that are open note. There is also an experience paper which requires you to visit a religious service other than your own.
