Exceptionally good.Somehow makes Art History interesting(not an easy task!)
She was cool. Don't be put off by her initial timidity.
Wonderful Professor! Made sure I had her for every art history course I had!
She's kind of scatterbrained. Tests are VERY hard. Tough grader.
She's really animated and humorous to watch.
Very nice, helpful & approachable. Good lecturer. Itd be fun to see her ****.
very nice lady, really knows her stuff
Great class! She is very knowledgable. makes you appreciate art. exetremely inte
Sweet lady, go to office hrs, make sureshe knows who u are emails are a +
very nice adn helpful, tests are hard but she is fair
she's a good teacher, teaches the subject very well, but her tests are hard!
Wonderful teacher! Going to lectures is ESSENTIAL for doing well on the exams. Tape record lect. and print the slides.Go to her office hours and make sure she knows your first name. She will re-explain or help you with anything you don't understand.
Cool art teacher. Very animated-keeps you awake. She's really sweet, and definitely better than the other Art History prof. Go to class and take notes, and print the thumbs of the slides, its not that bad.
She is super nice. But he tests made me fail the class. Now I'm a residentially challenged hungry street peddler. Thanks a lot, Mrs. Woods.
I haven't been able to pass an art history class until her class. She gives you a sylb.with everything. Easy, super-nice, and Interesting!
If only all the professors were like her! She is very sweet and helpful. Her tests are not too difficult. The tests are based on class lectures. I've taken 3 of her classes and never purchase the text books, everything is based on her lectures.
Really nice teacher, tests are all about lectures. Tests are not easy but its just memorizing, and she gives you a study guide and all the artwork you need to know for a quiz.
Go to clss and read the book. Tests are HARD!!! Quizzes are easy. Really nice...go to office hours!!
Woods' lectures were very clear as well as interesting, compared to the teachers I have had in the past. She was approachable and professional at the same time. She made her class worth coming to. There should be more teachers like her. :)
this class is very easy as long as you go to class and study lecture notes really well. tests are all multiple choice. one paper. no homework.
she talks too fast, and her tests are crazy! I recommend taking the class with some other teacher, maybe at a junior college!
Tip: Come to every class...really don't need the book(maybe sharew/ a friend). Tests are slow paced b/c they're on the artwork. Take good notes. Ok for DSS students.Take the 1 night/week course.Get all info at once & email if have ?s.
Great teacher study her notes and you'll be fine. Kick ass teacher! It's not a "given A" you do have to do your part.
Her class is not too bad. Kinda boring since it's at 8am! But she is very clear on the slides but need to study for quizes and exams. Some times they are hard cuz you have to know info on background history. Ok class!
this class is hard! lectures are so detailed that its hard to differentiate what's important and what's not. some lectures don't match up with what's being said in book. nice teacher though. 3 midterms, 1 paper, 1 final, 4 quizzes (given 2 weeks b4 every exam)
Excellent professor, very friendly, clear and helpful. Probably one of the best art history classes I have taken. Makes art fun. Come to class eager to learn and you will do fine. Also took her Art 258 class. 4 tests and 1 paper. Book not necessary, but can be helpful. Definitely recommend Woods!
Go to class and take notes. No need for the book if you go to all the classes. No way you can pass by just reading the book and not showing up to class. Great teacher. Class can be boring. Flashcards for quizes and test help A LOT. Easy A if you go to class and study.
I hated this class w/a passion! Aside 4rm boring lectures that'll make u fall asleep, her lectures r so detailed that its impossible to remember all of it. u HAVE 2 go 2 class in order to pass it. Tests r hard. 3 exams, 3 quizzes, and 1 easy museum paper. Nice lady though. Thanks to her, I'll be ret
this teacher is very exited about art history its hard to wake up at 8:00 but if you go to class and read the book and study you will pass. Her midterms are tough the questions trick you. Even if you study a lot she will throw you off and make you confused. Good ,very detailed lectures. nice perso
the people who said this class is easy must have photographic memory! this class is not easy. i got an A- but i had to work by butt off studying to get it. there is entirely too much information to remember for the tests! and, many questions on the tests will hit you out of nowhere even if you study
This lady is the nicest teacher ever, she's actually like a real person and she will work with you if you have problems like absences or missing quizzes. The class is really hard but if you have to take it, she's definitely the best teacher to have.
Great class, and not hard at all if you actually attend lectures. I'd prefer more diversity in subject material, however--to much surveying of European and Euro-influenced art.
I took two of her classses and thoroughyl enjoyed both! She is articulate and kind. Each class grade is based on 4 tests and a paper. Both papers were easy (I wrote them the night before and got an A on each). If you attend class and take notes, you will never need to purchase a book.
I took both of these classes at the same time. The key to doing well in this class is go to class and pay attention to the lectures because her tests are striclty from them. Her lectures reinforce the readings, so except for the Greek section of 568 you don't really need the books! She responds promptly to your emails and is always available.
Dr. Woods is a very nice lady and she will put extra time in for her students. She is incredibly intelligent, smart and has a fun English accent.
Dr. Wood is a great professor. For those of you planning on taking this class; my advise to you is to pay close attention. Her test will be on her lecture. Hardly on the books. The book will only help you remember the monument. If you are struggling, don't hesistate to ask her for help.
must admit i wasn't an art history fan and only took the class for GE. nice lady, extremely helpful (go to office hours) and i was able to stay awake for this 8 AM class. lectures are important! i bombed all her tests and did well on her paper and she passed me
Not hard just go to class and take notes. the slides are on-line so if your notes are good and you dont skip class you dont really need the book. it just sucks that it is a 8am
I took a number of classes with Woods years ago as an undergrad and she is the person I model my own teaching after to this day.
Dr. Woods is an amazing professor! She's very knowledgable and she cracks me up sometimes. Go to class!! Take decent notes. I always read about the monument in the books before class, its not that hard to get an A. 2 midterms, a few quizzes, a paper and a final. ENJOY :)
Very nice teacher. this is the only 258 class, so luckily she was good. class is easy you dont have to go to the lectures if you study the book before the exams. two midterms, three quizzes, a final, and a paper on an art piece.i missed a quiz and she let me make it up with a version she personally made for me.
She's a little goofy, but she's good at what she does. She says everything you'll need for exams during class and the only people who got bad marks were the ones sleeping during class.
excellent teacher. she can be kind of funny, and it's almost impossible to fail her class... that is, unless you don't go in the first place. her lectures were so thorough that i didn't even read the textbook.
her lectures are super clear and she can be interesting. Good class.
Sweetest teacher ever! Though possibly the only one who still uses slides and doesnt use Blackboard. She knows her**** and covers a lot of ground each class. So dont miss class or you will miss a lot. Paper is 7 pages and tests take up the whole class period. Lately shes been giving 2 essay Q's with each test. And the final is NOT cumlative.
she is a really nice professor. she does cover a lot of material and can be overwhelming sometimes but her lectures are pretty clear. just study your notes and memorize the actual slides. there are 2 midterms, a final, and a short paper.
Personally, I didn't care for this teacher. Yes,she is nice & there are 3 tests & a paper however her tests are very difficult. I went to every class & took good notes & studied & I struggled in her class. The text book is useless. All her tests are taken from lecture. Good luck in her class & you'll see me in the class AGAIN next semester.
Damn, i took a lot of notes in this class. I never was able to tell what would be relevant and what was not. Use the online study guides for the slides. Study groups might be helpful. Tests kicked my ass but i got a B
My advice is, unless you think you have confidence and enough time to study for the tests, I don't recommend her class. She is very nice and helpful, but you really need time to study for the exams, which cover a lot. It is adviced that you read the textbook on regular basis, even if the lecture is the most important.
Okay teacher!!.boring. u can't avoid taking her if ur an art major. only teacher that teaches this class & its @ 8am. even though most of the test is from her lecture, still read the book. i showed up to class everyday & took good notes, still got a C.im jus gald its over. try & get to kno her, she'll kno ur tryin & will try & give u a better grade
As with most professors, shes only helpful if you actually ask her. I found her tests interesting and challenging, which is good for art history majors. I would NOT recommend you take her upper division classes unless you are an art history major, otherwise it might be too hard. You WILL get what you deserve/worked for in her class.
She's nice, But Unless you are taking only one or two classes, do not take art 577. She covers way too much in ea. exam, no study guide, very vauge on what she wants for exams. when asked quests regarding works her answer most of the time is, "ehm... that's a very good question, i don't know... hmm, i'll have to look that up." o_O save yourself!!
Very nice teacher. I didn't read the book at all because she covers everything and more in the lecture. You could either attend all the classes and get a good grade or you could skip them and just read the book and still get a passing grade. Overall the class wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I loved her! She's really passionate and got me seriously interested in Art History. You don't really need the book, except to study for exams and there are only 2 per semester. The class is basicly a slide show of art that she discusses but it's very interesting. I would recommend her.
She knows her stuff and makes it very clear what you need to know to pass the test. Shes fun to llisten to because shes pretty nuerotic and is always on the edge of a breakdown. I really thought she would fall to her knees, dis mis the class and start crying one day because her mic was feeding back... but she didn't. I learned alot
GREAT ART HISTORY TEACHER! a lecture i enjoyed going to. time flys. shes extremely knowledgable. make sure you go to as many lectures as you can. you have to get the information she gives you. notes shouldnt be too specific. i took pages, but it was unnecessary. the tests arent too difficult, just know the lecture material and your set.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. very hard tests..BORING material. Its all memorizing minute details that arent in the book and she barely covers them in class. WORST class i have taken. Several tests and one paper.
Do not take her as a professor unless you want to retake the same coarse again later on. Her tests are very hard she gives no study guides, expects you to memorize EVERYTHING and you still have no clue what she is going to ask you in an exam. Beware!
One of the worst teacher i have ever taken. Unclear exam. No study guide to follow. Boring and guarantee that it will make you fall asleep lectures. Do not buy the book because she do not have any notes from it. BEWARE!! like the other 2 post before me have said; you will failed and repeat the course again. Stay away from this course.
Dr. Woods is super nice, and explains everything in great detail. You can tell she's so passionate about the subject, and she gives great stories about the pieces. There are about 3 10-question quizzes, a midterm, and a non-cumulative final where she puts a picture up, and you answer multiple-choice questions about the piece.
She is a really nice teacher and very helpful if you are unclear on anything. The best way to get a good grade in her class is to go to class because she explains the material in greater detail than the textbook. Go to class, take notes and you'll be fine.
She is really nice and easy going. Kinda weird and corky. Seems as if shes going to have a nervous break down every time she gives a lecture. sweet lady though. The class is tough and you MUST study for the mid term and especially the final. Its Super hard to get up at 8:00 am on a fri too. If you dont have to take this class DONT!
One of the the most boring, painful classes I've ever taken. It's art history though, so nothing will change that. Woods is pretty easy, lectures whole time, 3 quizzes, 3 50 point test including the final, and a easy paper. Overall easy but ungodly boring.
Best teacher! She's so helpful. If you need to ask questions, she'll make things as clear as possible. Very quirky and has some interesting stories about the pieces. Anyone who's not an art history major probably won't like her, but if you are, take her. You'll love it.
Dr. Woods is rather nice, although the class is the most boring class I've ever taken. Overall the class is pretty easy if you go most of the time, and if you miss class just read the section in the book that you missed. There are 3 quizzes, 3 tests (including final) all multiple choice, and a 3pg paper, which is easy, just an analysis. So boring!
I absolutely LOVE her! I was struggling in this class at first and went to her office hours and she TOTALLY helped me! She is so nice and caring and very passionate about her teaching. If you show her that you care about your grade, she is more than willing to help you pass. I'm taking her for all my art history!!
Really cool professor. She cares about her students and she is warm and approachable.
She is an enthusiastic teacher. Class requires a lot of memorization, and flashcards definitely helped! This class is easier than Dr. Williams Art 259 class. Sometimes her anxiousness gets a little annoying though but she definitely has a lot of energy (especially at 8 in the morning!) Her essay assignment is really easy too.
very easy class. she's funny and nice. the class is not hard at all. just take notes and memorize the pieces of art.
Good teacher who's passionate about subject. Good office hours. Tough class. 3 midterms, 3 quizzes and 1 easy paper. The midterms are a bit tricky though. The average in the class right before the final midterm was a D (The mean and median are stated right on the quiz scores!) Memorize 60+ pieces each midterm + time period + subject material.
definitely not an easy art history class. she's quirky and not too bad to listen to, but the tests are much much more than memorizing dates and names. you only need to know the name and time period of each piece, but you must know quite a bit of info on the history of it and its context. final and paper worth 45% of grade
She is very passionate and fun. Quizzes are super easy. Midterms are a bit trickier. There is a pretty easy paper as well. I recommend take all the notes and make them into flash cards with the monument on the front. You really have to pay attention, she will test you on every little detail of the culture/society not just the art monument.
I like her! Sure theres a lot of material to know..but she made it easier for me to remember! I never opened the book & got an A. Always asks the monument title, period it was created, and what isn't true of the monument in the tests. can be a lil tricky but managable. not that boring if you pay attention & like art. her mannerisms are funny too
I loved this class. She is a great professor and her lectures were very interesting. All the test questions and essays come straight from the lectures..there is no need to buy the book. 3 tests/ 1 research paper! tests are half multiple choice with 2 essay questions. easy A if u take good notes and study!
DO NOT TAKE! trust me! I was an art major but had to switch because of this class. slide after slide, no titles or info on them, just her annoying voice. Have to read and take notes everyday. GO TAKE THIS CLASS SOMEWHERE ELSE, if anything! listen to me. horrible teacher, class time, and material. Save your time, money and major- DO NOT TAKE!
Shes so nice. Her attitude every day is very cheerful. She explains everything with great passion and gets you into it as well. Shes always willing to help and explain things further. The subject is awesome and you will learn alot of things that will amaze you. Take this class! Its totally worth it.
She's an awesome teacher with a great sense of humor. Tests can be a little hard, but just read the book and don't procrastinate.
If you go to class and take notes the class is easy. No need to read the book. The slides are posted and general questions and titles are asked about them, no dates. Lecture was interesting and tests 4 where multiple choice, not hard if you go over notes and posted slides.SHe does grade harder on the essay then anything else. Nice lady, easy class
LOVED her class! tests were really simple, but there is just a lot of memorization and art to remember which can make it difficult. very sweet and energetic lady. i still don't understand how she was so awake at 8 am MWF.
She's really upbeat and makes class interesting. The only thing that bugged me was that for me, it was hard to study for because you never really knew exactly which facts to pay attention to. Other than that, it was a great experience. Don't miss lecture! That'll hurt you.
Great course! She always kept it interesting and had great side stories about the pieces she taught about that were not in the book. The only downside was it had to be an 8 oclock class, other then that it was easy, you didn't need to be there and there's no homework.
Interesting class! Prof. Woods is very enthusiastic about Art History, and I actually stayed awake during this class. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't go, make sure to make notes from your book. Make note cards at the end of the week to help u study. 3 quizzes & 3 tests. She asks the name of the monument, time period (but no dates).
I'm a fifth year senior at State, and this is by far the best class I've ever taken! She makes the material extremely interesting and you know EXACTLY what will be on the exams. I highly recomment taking your laptop to class to and making notecards for the midterms. You will learn SO much and you'll actually really enjoy it! Don't need the text
i learned a lot from this class. everything that she talks about are all important since they will be on the quizzes/tests. 3 tests and a couple quizzes in between. miss class, and you will miss out
She was a nice lady and extremely in love with the subject! I went to class every time, didn't touch the book, studied the morning of each quiz/test, and pulled a B. An A is EASILY achievable with effort though. I think the class average was either a 93 or a 96 on the last grade report? Just make flash cards.
Do not buy the book if you plan on attending all of her lectures.Pay attention to everything she says and take as much notes as possible. Very interesting class and I thought the teacher was funny. Really easy class if you pay attention during her lectures.. just listen to her during lectures...
Really nice lady. You know she has a passion for what she does and she makes the lectures really interesting. I like art history already prior to taking her class but she made me love it even more. Take her! :D
You must attend her lectures or have a friend to copy notes from. The test and quizzes are based off of them and nothing else. Had to do 1 paper. Not that bad. Just take good notes and you'll do fine.
I love Professor Woods! I missed a handful of classes and still ended up with a B in the class, but if I had showed up more I would definitely have gotten an A. Quizzes are a lot easier than exams. One paper- SOOO easy! Class is only offered at 8am which sucks but for most of us its a prereq so at least Woods is a great prof to take it with!
If you are taking a lot of units it may be difficult to find time to study for this class. This class is all tests/quizzes and one paper, there are no assignments or any extra credit.
Extremely clear and helpful. Rarely used the book, book the lectures had everything you needed to know for all of her exams. A great professor.
pretty good class. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go tests will be harder than they already are. If you take really good notes you'll be fine. Professor Woods is a great lecture teacher. She lets you out of class early everyday and is pretty funny. If you need to fill a humanities this is a pretty non-demanding class to take for that.
Take very detailed notes because a decent amount of the midterm questions come from her lectures and not the book. There were 3 noncumulative midterms,3 quizzes and one 3 page paper that wasn't difficult to do. Also the last midterm was considered the final.
Such a nice woman! She is really a great person to listen to and is obviously passionate about the subject. It can be hard to manage a large lecture that barley showed up at 8 in the morning and still be a kind teacher. But she was. She will work with you on any questions or problems and her lectures are as clear as could be. Great teacher.
This class was fairly interesting! It's pretty easy to get engaged in the art pieces because she usually tells the class stories. Attendance isn't mandatory but the midterm and final questions are based on the lecture... SO DON'T BUY THE BOOK!! She's very nice and will help you with anything!
OMG she is seriously the sweetest professor/teacher I have ever had. She always let students turn in papers late and she was really understanding, sweet, and nice. Take her!
She teaches the subject quite well and most of it is pretty interesting (especially when you get past church architecture). If you aren't too great at memorizing info, it's best to start studying for the midterm and final a few wees early and just go over 1 lecture a day. Also, do NOT buy the textbook, it's not necessary at all.
I was not interested in Art History until I took Woods course. Organized format, you go to class you will get an A. She clearly states what is going to be on the test. And is willing to help you with anything you may need. Super sweet, and inviting professor who seems very interested and knowledgable about the subject.
VERY good professor. She is so sweet, fun, helpful, extremely knowledgable, and makes you interested in the course topics. No attendance is taken but if you don't go, you miss notes very important for the quizzes/midterm/final. Unfortunately this class is at 8 am on Fridays, too, but really try to go. She is one of the best professors I've had!
Great professor. Her lectures are really organized down to the day. So attendance is mandatory. Really straight forward test and term paper. Always willing to help students. She's funny too!
After the first midterm & quiz I had an F. I began going to her office hours regularly and taking good notes (writing down everything she said) I saw my grade gradually start to improve and ended up with a B. Take advantage of office hours, she would sometimes give out a question or two that was going to be on the midterm. Textbook not necessary.
great instructor sure she assigns you the text but its best to learn material in class… 3 tests and paper… let's you know what essay test questions will cover. She always assures students they could come in for office hours for questions and sometimes she could let you turn in papers late ;)
I struggled a little bit in this class, but I put most of the blame on myself. Dr. Woods is extremely kind and helpful. Keep in mind that this class is heavily lectured based. You do not need a book and she lectures with just pictures and her voice. Overall, lots of memorization, but if you go to her office hours, Dr. Woods will help you a lot.
Really interesting class. I had it at 8am, so I was often really tired, but I still enjoyed her quirkiness. It's a pretty basic class. Her tests are MC and all she does is show a picture of the art on the projector. Take notes and try to find the same pics online of the art so you can study really well.
She is incredibly sweet and extremely passionate about the subject even though its a basic course. Midterm and final had same format and there were no tricks, she was extremely straightforward about what would be on the test. Going to lecture is a must though but she makes it entertaining. Textbook is useless.
Awesome professor, very clear and helpful. You know exactly what to expect from her. Lectures are important, I didn't use my textbooks much. I hope to take more classes with her.
I absolutely loved this professor. She was really clear and her lectures were always very interesting. She doesn't take attendance, but it's mandatory to attend anyway since you need to take good notes. I passed, but I would have gotten a higher grade if I had studied more. It's an 8 a.m. class, but I still recommend taking it!!
I've taken multiple classes of hers and I love her. She is so helpful when you go to her office hours and really does want you to succeed. For 371, I bought the book but didn't find it helpful at all while studying or writing the one paper assignment. Test are based off her lectures, so going to class is crucial. Not the hardest class
I'm not an Art major, I took her for Art258 for GE and took her again for Art568 just because I enjoyed her class. She knows her stuff and makes class interesting, especially if you're already into the topics. No attendance but tests are based off lectures. 3 midterms and 1 paper. Easy stuff.
Fantastic class and professor! She gives you tons of information, which is great if you are interested. That being said, you don't need ALL of that information for the three exams, which are fairly easy. MC + 2 essays each, and she gives you the prompts ahead of time. The class is very well organized and sticks to the syllabus. Paper is not bad.
I had Woods for an 8 am class and it was hard to wake up, but she was pretty interesting. Study the exact pictures she shows and take good notes and you'll be fine. The textbook isn't really needed too much because they're mostly lecture based. It's an easy class and she's very helpful. It's not hard to get an A.
Dr. Woods is an absolutely amazing lecturer. I took her History of Architecture class and she was always on point. I dread 9 am classes but I always looked forward to her lectures. She's funny sometimes and the textbook is not required (though she says it is). If you show up to the lectures and take notes, you'll do fine on the tests. Super easy.
Not a morning person but she made a MWF 8 am interesting. She's very clear about the subject material and if you go to her office hours she's amazing and will do her best to help you up your grade. Consists of 3 quizzes, 3 midterms, and one essay. If you don't attend class you WILL fail the tests. Will definitely be taking her for upper division.
ART258 was great, I normally hate history but Art History was actually interesting with Woods. Either buy the book and skip lectures or vice versa. Although, the class was harder than I expected, especially for a GE. All of your grade relies on quizzes and midterms, which means you have to do well on them. There's one paper, which was super easy.
I looooove Dr. Woods! She's so smart and sweet and caring! Her class is always interesting even at 9am lol. She's always doing her best to make lectures clear and understandable. She's super approachable. Always there to help you. And offers a paper at the end to help boost your grade. AMAZING love her!
Attendance isn't taken but if you skip class you won't do well on the quizzes and exams. She made the class worthwhile though, especially for a morning class. She's really nice and easily accessible if you have questions on exams or the one research paper. Pretty easy GE if you show up and take notes.
Straightforward class as long as you show up and take notes. She's really helpful and approachable and wants students to succeed. She'll help you on the essay assignment if you ask. Talk to her if you're struggling, she will take improvement on midterms into account when it comes to the final grade. She's funny in lecture and is super sweet.
Really straightforward class, she puts literally everything in the syllabus and follows it. Nothing is online, so you have to go to class, but lectures are interesting and she's funny and sweet. 4 quizzes, 3 exams, and a paper. Not too hard if you take the time to show up to class and study for exams.
All content is clearly stated in the syllabus, and she follows it daily. Exams questions are multiple choice, but very specific. My advice is to record the lectures and listen to them more than once. Pay attention to small details. She is nice and considerate. She encourages you to visit during office hours and introduce yourself. Thorough teacher.
I was skeptical about taking a MWF class but he lecture style and enthusiasm made up for all the heavy material. She answers all questions, willing to meet with students outside of class for help, and fair with grading. The material for the tests come from her lectures. 30 Multiple choice and two short essays are her format, and one research paper.
Be ready to pay attention to what she teaches in class, you should take notes with details because she will ask very specific things in quizzes and exams!
Lecture heavy with 3 midterms and a few quizzes. One research paper and a cumulative final. You have to listen to her lectures to pass her exams. Exams one question on the time period, title of piece, two NOT true questions. Great person overall and passionate about art. If you cant watch the history channel you will fall asleep in this class.
It can be intimidating when your whole grade consists of two midterms 25% each; a 7 page paper 20%; and a final 30%. ATTEND ALL LECTURES. Her test questions come straight from her lectures. There are no slides or online notes, so make sure you are taking detailed notes in class. She is a lovely person and is willing to meet outside of class to help
I had some problems test wise in this class but that is at no fault to the professor, her lectures were interesting and had minimal tangents that were not necessary. The grade is determinded by three tests, 4 quizzes and one paper, so go talk to the teacher in her office hours so as to get help on what will be on the test and such.
Professor is nice and is passionate about her work. 3 exams and 1 paper, Lecture heavy so do not miss any classes. No study guide. Will have to study over 100 images for midterms but only 20 or less so will be on the midterm.
An absolute gem of a professor. Her lectures are very engaging, which will help you tons on tests & quizzes. 3 quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final, and 1 paper. Although the syllabus "requires" a book, you will do very well if you just go to class, pay attention, & TAKE NOTES. If you're not an art major and looking to clear GEs, take her! Solid professor.
She's a really good teacher who knows a lot about the subjects, and the content is very intriguing (especially if you're interested in art and/or history!). However, her exams are pretty challenging. She's very caring and genuine if you go to her office hours or even speak to her after class. Go to her lectures and don't skip class!
She is an amazing professor! Very passionate and knowledgeable. It is not an easy A and test and relatively hard but it is a very interesting class.
Very passionate about the subject, and made the lectures interesting! There were a lot of quizzes and tests but it helped bring up my grade. She was very good at telling us what information was important to remember, and if you study those topics, tests are pretty easy.
Great professor! She is super knowledgable about what she is teaching and lectures everything you need to know for quizzes and tests. It's not an easy class at all, but if you take detailed notes and study, it's not too bad. Go to office hours if you're struggling! She's very caring and willing to help.
You have to show up to the lectures to pass this class; you have to take detailed notes on as much information as possible. Book wasnt necessary but it does help. 3 mid-terms, 1 essay, no homework. Test are multiple choice so use the process of elimination if youre in trouble. Tests have essay portions. She does office hours. Memorize the pieces.
Very important to attend all lectures and take detailed notes. This is not an easy A, but if you study your lecture notes you'll do well. She is so sweet and very passionate about the material, and is very accessible. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. The syllabus says it's mandatory but IT ISN'T. All test questions come from the lectures, not the book.
This class is not an easy A and I definitely recommend going to class (I did miss some). Whatever I missed I just read in the textbook. Grade is based off of quizzes, tests, and a paper. That being said, she was one of my favorite professors. She is so passionate about art history, and made me interested in what she was teaching.
I hate art history classes but Ann made the topic SO interesting because she's so genuinely passionate about the subject. Papers aren't super tough but not easy either. Tests are straight from the lecture, not too tricky. I find it hard to follow along with her lectures because she talks fast - if you need help talk to SASC and get a notetaker.
Dr. Woods is an amazing professor. She's so knowledgable and passionate. Her lectures are fast pace, and you have to go to pass the class, but they are so interesting. I loved going to class and actively listening. The class is test/quiz heavy with one essay. A lot of memorization and content focus, but you will learn so much. One of my favorites.
Took her class online, thankfully she recorded lectures. But if you plan on taking her, you have to be GOOD with taking notes, she can go fast and tests can be tough. No textbook needed, all lecture based. Grade is based 3 tests and one paper. Very nice and approachable, but if youre not going to be paying attention in class, do not take her.
Professor doesn't give extra credit, doesn't have extra assignments your grade consists of two midterms a final and a paper and that's it. The professor is all over the place and doesn't include information for each image she shows. Even with tons of notes you won't get all the answers on the test. She tests on random stuff she mentions 1 time.
Passionate teacher with amazing lectures. Take lots of detail oriented notes and you'll pass easily. Use Quizlet (Art 258 pieces on there) to study and have it open for exams for easy A/Bs. Bought the textbook and only looked at it once, so its not necessary. Lectures are recorded so you can rewatch and take notes at your own pace. No homework.
Woods is funny and she's got a good heart. If she sees improvement in you, she'll boost your grade. But if you go to class and take notes there's no need to read the textbook. Just review your notes before exams and head in. No tricky questions, really easy and stress-free. The paper is easy - just 6 pages and the range of topics are broad.
I loved this class so much: Intro to Art Hist 1. Prof. Woods is so knowledgable about art history (especially european) and I found it fascinating, so it wasn't a pain to study. 3 quizzes, 2 midterms and a final paper, no hw. Super interesting class and a great professor, I highly recommend!
I didn't know someone could be so passionate about Art History, it made it easier to pay attention and be excited about the class at 8am. This class was really hard for me, because I never attended the lectures and relied on the recordings. Every night before the test I went through all the lectures with my notes in hand, and I scored high!
She's a sweet person and very passionate about art history, but the instruction isn't clear at all. She's easy to grade for essays, but for multiple choice parts, she will give you very confusing questions and many lectures to study. Do not take her class if you need a course for graduation.
This professor is well-knowledgeable but her lectures are extremely heavy, it was a lot of information to memorize. When it came to the testing and papers the directions where never quite clear with extremely random questions, it was almost impossible to keep up with the readings. I never recieved feedback for my papers and never missed class.
Prof is lovely and she's pretty passionate so lectures aren't boring. Two midterms, non-cumulative final, and two essays. Reading for hw. Go in-person bc audio might cut out for some of the uploaded lectures. Tip: She's really nice so don't hesitate to ask for hints on the exam essays, then review lectures/readings and take extra notes :)
Everyone in this post is lying. This is the only class I have ever failed, other than that I have straight A's (3.7GPA). Professor Woods lectures are verbally detailed and she is extremely knowledgeable, however, she is NOT a good teacher. She doesn't provide any info on slides, nor answer your questions, provide feedback, etc..(rec: Prof Sneed!)
Please avoid this professor! She is very knowledgeable, however she does not provide any extra credit, informational slides, books or feedback on midterms other than her lectures. To pass her midterms, you will need to memorize a large amount of specific details. Everyone in the class performed poorly on the midterms, and she did nothing about it.
I genuinely thought I was going to fail. During her lectures, she would go on tangents about how she was unsure about the information she was telling us. She gave me a low grade on my midterm essay questions because she was "cranky" while she graded work. She would also tell the class the wrong information during the lecture.
Professor Woods is passionate about art history, but lectures can be disorganized. Tests focus on specific details, so taking detailed notes and using unstuck study for study prep is key. Tricky grading, but manageable with dedication.
Professor Woods is a phenomenal professor. If you get on her level, get invested in what she's teaching you'll pass easily. Though attendance is not mandatory if you don't show up you'll likely fall behind, even with lecture recordings. If you're invested in art history or want to be, Woods is great option
