The coure it easy but she can't speak English! She means well but she just doesn't know how to teach! If you take her, get a tutor.
She is really willing to work with you on things, and is always available for help. Although she is sometimes hard to understand, she really does know what she is talking about.
VERY nice teacher, means well and isn't out to hurt anyone's GPA. The language barrier can be a bit of a problem but she is willing to explain things and help out. I had a tutor and got an A (easier than I was making it). Easy class- lang. only issue
Ms. Anna is one very sweet lady. I think her English improved a LOT by the end of the semester! I loved going to class. Hard to believe.
Very helpful and nice.
Very nice and helpful teacher. Class is interesting. She is very smart and knows how to teach this course!
Nice teacher. Real easy to understand. Reccomended.
I think she is a very sweet lady who is very willing to help you, and will also meet your individual needs. I actually learned a few things in this class. Some of it was review, but some was new. It may even help me when I take the Math Praxis exam.
Easy class. Some of it was like HS but she made it very easy to get thru.
very sweet lady.. she is always very helpful.. she gives handouts as notes and goes over them.. homework every night but not many problems.. tests are easy and gives formulas.
GREAT TEACHER!
She is VERY helpful and she knows what she is doing.LOVED the class. She gave handouts that REALLY helped. Recommended.
Awesome teacher, has re-tests for every test, gives handouts, is approachable, great attitude, great sense of humor, seems like she actually cares how the students do in the class. Made the material understandable. If youre taking MATH0900 you want this teacher.
She is the best teacher, very helpful, actually cares about how you do in the class. Does have a retest for each and every test, and will work with you if you cannot make it to class. Wants to make sure that you understand everything before moving on.
I can't really understand what she is saying half the time but I now she is trying hard. But some times she doesn't give us a chance to ask questions.
it is a little hard to get past her accent but she is a really good teacher. she tries really hard and is willing to help anyone. her test are really easy if you do the study guide. if you dont mind the accent i strongly recommend her!
She is really nice but the class is pretty boring. She will help you with anything and always make sure you understand everything
Dr. Anna is so nice... I had her at 8am which i hated, but she bent over backwards to make sure everyone got a pleasing grade. Her accent isn't THAT bad and actually it is kind of funny b.c. she is greek so she add a "A" to everything... sorta ofa soundsa lika Mario... I luv Anna!!!
Very help full and caring.
Anna is awesome...I loved her class, take her if you can. No doubt about it. I love her accent its so funny...I always went to class expecting something good and leave class with something better.. not only did we like goin 2 class but we always hung out after class and had fun.. She makes sure you understand the concept, an excellent teacher.
excellent teacher that's all i need to say
One of the best professors I have ever had. Very passionate about education.
I have never had a mathematics professor to teach in the manner that Anna instructs. She is one of the most awesome professors I have ever taken...ever... no really..take her. If she is teaching Cal in the fall, I will be in the front row. You will work, but at the end of the day, you will GET calculus. I went form "ok" to pretty good.
Do not take her if you don't have to. Hard to understand, and is never clear on what she wants completed. Gets upset when nobody raises their hands, but when people answer she only critisizes them.
she is great and she gives you a chance of correcting your exams and give you the average grade that really helps .. all the homework are due at the end of the semester so you have the whole semester to correct your mistakes .. you can ask her anything and she will answer you
She was an Awesom Stat's teacher. I took STAT's like earlier last fall and i repeated it and took it in the spring and i took her class and she was great , her passion for helping us understand the material is awesome. Her class was in the evening but it was worth it. She really helps you get the Material. I Passed with a B.
A little hard to get past the accent but definitely a great Stat teacher. Highly recommend!
Her accent is the only thing you have to get adjusted to but good teacher and easy class
DO NOT take this professor for Math Elementary Education. She reads straight from the powerpoint and yells at the class every day for no reason. She may be a good math teacher, but she CANNOT teach ELED students at all.
She have an accent, but she is a good teacher. When coming into her classroom, she expects her students to act like teachers. She want to have her students practice teaching in front of their peers to prep them for the real thing. She is lenient, easy test, doesn't give tons of work, and can be enjoyable. I would recommend her.
Seriously all she does is yell at the class...I would never recommend this class to ANYONE. I have never in my life taken a class with such a rude, disrespectful professor.
I do not recommend her. Her accent is hard to understand. Made ELED math material difficult to understand. I think there is a teaching problem when college students don't understand elementary math. Yelled at students if they didn't have the answer she was looking for, which was 99% of the time. A nice lady, but not a good teacher for this course.
Dr. Anna (As she prefers to be called. She knows her last name is hard to say.) was great. Her precalculus class was awesome, even on a condensed summer schedule. She was very flexible with grading, and even told the class not to bother with the assigned homework the week of the final, because we should be focused on the test. The accent isn't bad.
Best math teacher I've had. She probably saved my college career. I took a 5 year break from school before coming back, and failed this class despite my best effort. Decided to give one short summer semester a shot and took her class, and she essentially reminded me how to learn math. I've been doing well ever since.
Dr. A is an amazing instructor. She is extremely knowledgable, and not just about math. I regularly spent an hour+ after class just talking with her about all sorts of things. Homework is NOT optional and class attendance is a must, especially prior to exams. There is no zoning-out in her class since she greatly encourages participation.
I wouldn't suggest this class for anyone, especially visual learners. She talks the entire time and just tells you how to do problems in the book. This makes it almost impossible to take notes... not to mention her accent is very thick and there is a lot of homework... material of the class isn't extremely difficult though.
Great profrssor
Anna is so sweet! Although she can be difficult to understand because of her accent, she is a great professor. She is always willing to help you during office hours. I'm terrible at math & I ended up with an A! She truly cares about her students understanding the material.
Dr Anna made math understandable. Always made time to help during class and office hours. She is a little hard to understand in class but you get used to it. Math isn't my strongest subject so I appreciate every opportunity she gave for extra assistance. Would absolutely recommend a professor like her who really cares about her students.
She has no idea how to teach and instead of being able to explain to you how to do something she yells and gets frustrated. Do not take her class.
I'm sure Dr. A is a good math professor, but she's supposed to be teaching us how to teach math, and she doesn't do that. I have no confidence when it comes to teaching 3-5 math, like this class should've given me. She yells, stomps her foot, and gets very frustrated with students. Don't take her class unless you have no other option.
Dr. A is not a good professor to take if you are looking to get something out of the class. She does off into rants, and is very difficult to understand. Her grading criteria is not clear. She is a very difficult professor to please, and grades lesson plans much different than other ELED professors, so it is stressful to create them for her.
Dr. A truly wants her students to succeed and be great at teaching math the right way. She's passionate about it- don't take it personally, just listen to what she's saying and learn from it. She went way above and beyond giving feedback- outside of official office hours and on weekends. Read the book- take responsibility for your learning.
Good caring teacher. If you put in the work, you will make a good grade. She will go above and beyond to make sure you understand the concept so take advantage of that. She does have an accent but you can easily get used to it.
Dr. A is actually crazy. She gets so mad when you dont understand the content & instead of trying to explain it she gets mad and yells at you in front of everyone. Hard to understand her accent at first because she is french but you get used to it. do your work and you will pass but be ready to answer questions when called on or you're done for.
I strongly disliked this class. I honestly have not learned a single thing. She will yell at you for asking a question. If you do not have to take her DONT. She is very inconsistent with her grading and there is a lot of homework. The tests and quizzes are hard and do not always reflect what is taught in the class. I thought about changing my major
this is the worst Prof I have ever taken. she does not help or teach you anything. she gets insanely mad at you if you don't know the answer when she calls on you abruptly. she once made my friend cry from embarrassment. unless you have to, do NOT take this Prof, she stomps and screams every class, but like good luck Charlie if you have to take her
She roasts people who do not know the answer to things and at one point yelled very loudly about how we were all going to fail. Very funny to watch, not a very good learning experience however. Just make sure that you pay attention and learn the material and you should be fine. She has a thick french accent that was hard to understand at first.
I can honestly say I haven't learned at all, if anything, she messed up what I already knew. She is the queen of being disrespectful and throwing tantrums. She will make you want to cry as well as change your major. She shames us every class. AVOID AT ALL COST! Don't you dare ask a question at the risk of being publicly humiliated. Take anyone else
She grades very weirdly. I missed two questions on a test and she took of 6.715 points for one and 13.991 for the other, and I got an 80 on the test. She's nice if you don't raise your hand. Say the wrong answer and she'll humiliate you. Also she spent a whole week on the concept of tangent. She's nice if you just don't interact with her :)
Professor Athanasopoulou is very passionate about teaching. To some people, it came off as her yelling at them, but I didn't mind it. She was able to explain the subjects in a way that gave me a clearer understanding than I had before. All tests were multiple choice, and if you do the homework/study guides, you should be able to do well on them.
She is super nice and understanding. She has high knowledge of what she is teaching. She has a bit of an accent that may be hard to understand but you get used to it. She is also super passionate about her subjects. She sometimes goes off on a tangent about students missing easy questions and starts yelling at the class, but that's her passion
She helps you out so much, lets you do test corrections for all of the tests and homework. She wants you to have a good grade and really learn. I would definitely take her class again.
Anna is a good teacher who has lots of specifics and likes things in certain ways. She assigns hw every class. in the beginning of the semester she would go over new topics but then would just start going over hw, quizzes and tests during class. just do that work and you'll be okay, she also lets you do test and quiz corrections.
Really helpful & nice but unsure if shes unaware of how her tone can come off as rude. Participation can be risky as her questions arent clear and can make students seem dumb. Hw every class but not a lot to do. Will go over every quiz and test in class to help. Offers MANY chances to help your grade!
Anna is super nice and really funny. A lot of reviews say she is rude but you really just have to understand her sense of humor; she never means anything in a harsh manner. She's very passionate and she'll push you to find answers. If you're willing to apply yourself she is willing to guide you to success.
If you participate in class or try and communicate with her, she is very nice and more than willing to help. Very funny without trying to be. If you have an attitude, she'll give you one right back.
She's funny and a lot of people that say she's mean are either soft or just don't pay attention and she notices. She explains concepts very detailed, almost too in depth (she spent a class on the history of the pythagorean theorem and then on sin cos tan), and THEN taught the unit. Her tests are easy as heck and she's just really nice.
Anna isn't the worst professor I've had at UNCC, but she is far from the best. While she's nice (if she likes you), her teaching style is very difficult for auditory learners, and she moves really fast. If you struggle with mathematical concepts, you'll struggle in this class. She straight up said we'd never teach the stuff we learned in the class.
I wouldnt take this professor again. She gets upset when someone doesnt understand something. Besides her lectures are not the same as our aleks homework necessarily. Its also hard to understand her!
Jumps around a lot. Although most material was review, the way she taught made me forget basic math. Would recommend finding supplemental learning guides or just something that can simplify what she is saying. She can overcomplicate material but she will work with you if you ask for help
Worst Professor Ever. Covid has been hard on all of us. But she yells at students for asking questions or for clarification. She has repeatedly insulted students. Please if you have an option do not take this class.
This class doesn't appear to be hard by itself, but the professor makes it hard. Her teaching strategies didn't align well with me. Anytime I expressed concerns, I was shut down by criticism.
Prof Anna is an awful professor especially online. She is very disrespectful and never looks at anything from the student's perspective.
Prof. Athanasopoulou is a good professor, but I do not learn well with her teaching styles. I did not find the material complicated and I found it easier to just teach myself. There is a good amount of homework and some of it does not align with what was taught.
I honestly thought I would get a C at the beginning of the semester because Dr. Athanasopoulou was a little hard to understand over ZOOM. However, I managed to get an A just by showing up and paying attention. She uses an online platform called ALEKS to do homework, tests, and quizzes on. It is super helpful to do the practice tests on there!
Not only is Professor Ath hard to understand, but she never takes the time to look at the problem from the students perspective. Over half of my homework is marked "wrong" only for her to write the correct answer in different wording, that means EXACTLY what I put. Not a ton of homework, but she grades tougher than any teacher I've ever had.
She goes over everything super fast. She would ask a simple question and we can give her multiple right answers, but she just looks for a certain word. Every time you guys meet up for class, she would give us homework or classwork, even both. Most of the time, if you pay attention she is just doing the homework b4 it is due.
Refuses to explain concepts more than once. Yells when someone asks for clarification. She does reply to emails but its pointless. Everything has to be to her EXACT liking in order to get a decent grade. Only plus is she allows corrections.
Professor Anna was interesting. She would rush through problems she was teaching which made things difficult. But she also did most of the hw problems in class. She also allowed for test and quiz corrections with a video working through each problem. Thus, its been a difficult class but she does a lot to allow you to do well.
This is supposed to be an easy class, it's math for elementary teachers for crying out loud! This professor moved so quickly through topics I always ended up spending at least an extra 2 hours researching the topic so that I could actually understand it and that was over and above the homework assignments. She does not give good feedback at all.
Super hard to understand and is not very nice to adult students who are trying to learn canvas an ALEKS. She can be very rude and no supportive. Worst professor Ive ever had
Extremely understanding and thoughtful compared to most professors. She will help you out of class on your own time to help you succeed. A lot of homework but all math courses have homework. Dont be afraid to ask questions because she does not teach slow per say.
Very hard for professors who often struggle with assisting students with help. Does not understand how some students think and does not try to understand.
She has a strong greek accent and moves through problems fast which can be difficult at times. Every assignment is allowed to have corrections be done up until the final exam. She's very kind and understanding if you prove you work hard. For elementary math it was extremely difficult and none of this would ever be taught to a child. Attend class.
I really enjoyed her class, she will give you the level of respect you give to her. I recommend asking any and all questions possible. She is super generous with grades and gives plenty of homework extensions if you ask, and test corrections. She comes off as rude but means well and I gained so much from this class and would totally take her again.
she yelled at my friend for missing a negative. would not recommend
If you aren't naturally good at math, I suggest you don't take a class with this teacher. She has an accent and sometimes I couldn't even understand her. The homework is a lot, but it's manageable. I just don't think she's the best teacher for anyone who really struggles to learn math, but if you don't struggle, you should be fine in her class.
If you're not great at math I would recommend this class as she offers test corrections and extra credit! Attendance is graded but it didn't have an impact on my grade, IDK why. If you have anxiety about being called on this class will be a little uncomfortable. I passed 1/5 exams (before corrections) but still got a B!
This class was really hard to get through honestly but only because the material is SO much harder than 1340. Dr. A was really helpful and wanted us to succeed in her class, I just was constantly struggling with the material. She gives a TON of extra credit opportunities and re-grades and test corrections and that makes it worth it.
She was constantly upset with the class and does not use any positive reinforcement. Everyone refused to raise their hand because they were afraid to be yelled at, even if they were right. I hold no grudge against this class and I did just fine. I just wish she were more kind to her students.
She truly tries her hardest to make sure you learn an understand the material. She is always available for extra help outside of office hours. She may seem tough but she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS in fact if you want PEACE RUN because u wont understand a thing she says out her mouth #BEWARE
Disrespectful to students when they make common mistakes. Yells, and belittles students almost every class. She makes you laugh, not a "Ha-ha you're funny" but a "oh my god are you really this rude to strangers" laugh. Also she has a thick accent and talks way to fast. Not worth your money.
She is an easy grader and gives test corrections. She is horrible at explaining the material, and usually yells and gets frustrated when the class doesn't understand the material even though she is terrible at explaining it. Her accent doesn't even matter, it's the fact that she can't teach. Do all the work and the test corrections.
Genuinely difficult person in general. Yells at students for common mistakes. Yells at the class although we can't understand her. Absolutely terrible at explaining the material, on top of having a very thick accent on top of it. Grades easy and gives test corrections. Means nothing if u don't understand material. Do the work and you should pass
Great prof! This was the first math class I went into without knowing much of the material beforehand, and I was able to learn just about everything taught there. Extra credit in the class can bump you up a letter grade too.
She offers test corrections which is very rare in college. People complain that she yells but it is not that big of a deal, clearly wants her students to succeed. Has a pretty thick accent but is not too hard to understand. It's precalc so should be a free A if you're decent at math.
She was alright. I understand why some people dislike her more than others because she can be a bit abrasive at times, but she's very lenient on late work and allows test corrections. Just do the homework and you should be fine.
She may not have the best methods of teaching, but she goes over many examples in class and gives you the option to ask questions. She genuinely wants students to pass her class and gives many opportunities to do so like accepting late work, offering test corrections, and giving points back on tests.
She is alright. Class lectures weren't exactly the best as I couldn't really follow along at times unless I understood the material from the get go. But the most redeeming part about her class was the late policy. I was able to turn in old assignments (homeworks, test corrections and review quizzes) months late and she would give me full credit.
I absolutely loved this professor, she will break down the knowledge for you and prepare you well for Calculus 1!
She has a very thick accent! Her lectures can be kinda long at times but she teaches okay. But her grading makes her stand out, her tests are incredibly easy, all calculator active. Plus she'll replace your lowest test score with your final exam grade (
Professor Athanasopoulou at first comes off as a little harsh but she genuinely cares for her student and teaches pretty well. A lot of the time in class you will go over practice problems which are good and the test are pretty straightforward and not to bad. She is a very sweet woman and wants her students to succeed.
The professor can barely speak english and has an ineffective and confusing way of teaching. All of the assignments are online and are really easy. The only good thing about this professor is that she offers test corrections.
Ineffective and RUDE! Always yelled at students who didn't understand, she cannot teach just expects you to know how to do it. Unbelievely disrespectful: yelling, calling students lazy, taking phones. I was uncomfortable just being in the classroom let alone talking to her. There are multiple quizzes, homeworks, and tests every week.
she's really rude and i didn't learn a lot. you're forced to learn the concepts yourself. she yelled at us over anything, and the way she teaches is ineffective. BUT she lets you do test corrections and is caring to an extent. best advice for anyone taking 1340 is to do the study guides and follow the example problems in class and in the textbook.
Full credit for late homework. 5 points to final grade if you only miss 2 classes. 4 tests during the semester and a final cumulative exam which will also replace your lowest test score (2 test grades in one). Doing test corrections saved my grade. Moves through material fast in class, I spent about 5 hours each day teaching myself the material
She's honestly such a good professor. Don't listen to these bad reviewers, I usually don't write reviews but she deserves more credit. She gives test corrections on all tests, replaces lowest test score with final and the homework is relatively easy and counts for alot of the credit in the class. Didn't study too much for this class tbh and gotan A
She was very good in terms of grading and clearly wants the students to do well. Only issue I had is she can be not very approachable in class and her lectures aren't the greatest but she clearly cares for her students and accepts late grades with no penalty and you can make corrections on tests.
I would avoid this professor at any cost. Gets an attitude when you get a question wrong. Made me uncomfortable to ask questions or answer. I've heard that she's "passionate" but you can be passionate without coming off as disrespectful. She grew on me a little closer to finals because she gave good advice. Even completing the Hawkes can be hard.
Coming from an adult... you will need to teach yourself! She rushes through lectures and moves on way too quickly. You can either listen and hope to pick up something (strong accent) or speed write and try to get notes for later to teach yourself. Spent hours watching professors on Youtube to keep up with the work. Look for another professor!
Very nice person who cares about her students and wants them to do well but extremely difficult to understand and follow through with lectures. Lectures will start in between chapters and can be hard to follow, tests are important but she allows test corrections, class can be hard just stay on top of work.
she's so passionate about math but she is such a stickler. if you word something even slightly wrong she will yell at you. It's not as bad at the start of the year but by the time the year is wrapping up everyone is afraid to say anything so she just yells at herself all lecture long. It's honestly really depressing to watch.
She is very passionate about Mathematics; she also is very particular on how you phrase certain Math vocabulary. you get what you put into the course, she can seem stern at times, but really cares about the students and their understanding. Would definitely take another course with her again. Other professors do not teach like she does.
The test grade average was always a 60 or below but grades mainly focused on homework and she gives you all semester to do homework. She also gives a little extra credit if you miss 2 or less classes.
Professor Athanasopoulou can seem a bit harsh at first, but she genuinely wants students to succeed. The class is challenging, but she offers tools like late work acceptance and test corrections. Using unstuck study alongside the free textbook helped me stay on top of the material.
This professor seems to be easily upset and has on multiple occasions raised her voice in annoyance when a student did not know what to do instead of helping them. She also assigns much homework due almost every day of the week. Overall a not enjoyable class with her teaching
Professor Athanasopoulou is the most unhelpful, unapproachable professor I've ever had in my entire life. She has an indecipherable accent, SCRUTINIZES EVERY student and wastes class time. Spends half of lecture going over redundant technicalities and makes the content COMPLETELY UNUNDERSTANDABLE. OVERCOMPLICATION 1102. I wish I could type more.
i dont know what shes sayingl like 90% of the time
I wouldn't recommend this professor. She's hard to understand and can be judgmental when students get answers wrong, which makes the class uncomfortable. There's also a heavy homework load. Overall, I'd suggest choosing a different professor.
Personally, I didn't admire her teaching style. It takes a little to listen through her accent. She has days where she yells, not normally at people but sometimes. I think I learned more off of the online HW, rather than her. The study guides are extremely similar to the tests. I'm normally a math person, but she made stuff confusing.
I took this professor in my undergraduate studies at UNCC. I am in my graduate program now at ECU and must say that the manner in which she taught made me learn the material such that today I am writing graduate level papers in complex physics and theory and math. I am actually dedicating some of my research to her teaching credit. Thanks Prof. A.
Teach yourself, or take another professor. I knew the content already and just needed the credit, but exams often had 40 percent averages.
If you have a strong understanding for math you won't have much of an issue with her. She's very difficult to understand and does not provide clear instructions when teaching. She can often be quite rude. Seems to get frustrated with wrong answers or explanation not to her liking. A plus is assignments can be turned late
Her accent is very strong and hard to understand. Additionally, she doesn't explain her teaching and expects you to just know it. She is very aggressive with her tone and will yell at students and call out individuals in lectures. If you do get stuck with her, she does offer test corrections and accepts late assignments which is helpful
Half the time, she was raising her voice and calling on people who did not want to answer the question and wouldn't take "I don't know" as an answer. You need to get Pearson, which isn't bad, but holy homework, there was so much, but it wouldn't tank your grade if you missed a few problems or whole assignments. She also gave no feedback on exams.
My class is online, it is a 30-day Summer class and it is the most inefficient style of learning I've ever experienced in any course. The philosophy for this course is throw 6-8 hours worth of work at you everyday and expect the information to stick. It works until about 1/2 of the way through, then you're completely burnt out and nothing sticks.
If you are bad at math do NOT take her class. I dropped after one class because I couldn't understand a word she said. Her accent is VERY thick. I can barely understand math when i know what the professor is saying let alone this… I would have failed if I didn't drop
She will yell at you. She will yell a lot. It is great. You will learn. Show up, do the work, you will do well. She teaches well and it makes sense. Don't be afraid to get it wrong and get yelled at. Its actually quite entertaining to watch your classmates squirm.
her accent was a little hard to understand at times, but if you pay attention and put effort you can easily get an A in the class.
She cannot explain trigonometry to people learning pre-calculus for the first time. A huge saving grace for this class was my preceptor. She also broke student privacy rules and lashed out on the class because a couple of people were not paying attention by giving us a quiz that none of us understood. She also has a huge accent which made it hard.
Tests will have the most random questions that are hard to look at visually (pictures) and to understand. Very frustrating, but class is easy enough. Lectures are long and boring though.
