Horrible Class, I hate it
Took her for Calc II. She is very hard to understand, and her lectures are hard to follow. Fortunately, her tests and quizzes are really easy. The quiz problems are directly from the homework, and she gives you a test review with the exact same types of questions as the test. Just learn the material from the text and go to class for tests/quizzes.
I was in this class before two days and that was enough to make me want to jab every single one of my pencils through my eye sockets. Although learning Russian would be fantastic, this was Calculus and I could not understand one thing she said. Moves at the speed of light and is impossible to follow. In fear of failing life, I switched out.
Extremely difficult to understand and follow her lectures because of her accent and speed, if you learn well on your own this is the class for you, just attend for quizzes/tests and the class before for the reviews.
Bystrik is hard to understand she doesnt speak good English. She really does not know how to teach so you can actually understand. The only good thing about the class was the quiz points. Dont take her if you've never taken calculus before
Accent is incomprehensible, and her teaching makes no sense. If you need help, she will answer your questions, but lectures are unhelpful. Her tests and quizzes, however, are easy. The review sheets she give are exactly what are on the test, she just changes the numbers. If you can teach yourself, you won't have a problem.
you cant understand anything she says. I NEVER went to class, never did the homework and managed a B in the class. You have to teach yourself, but she gives reviewes before every exam. try not to take her but if you have to youll be fine
You cannot understand anything she says. I stopped going after the first week of classes and managed an A in the class. Made A's on all her tests, including the final. She lets you use a cheat sheet and a graphing claculator. Easy, but don't take her if you have never taken Calculus before.
This teacher was not that bad, contrary to popular belief. True, her accent was quite hard to understand but she does explain her material well, and if you pay attention, take note of what she is writing, and study the review exams that she gives you, then you will definitely get an A in the class. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended.
Gives reviews prior to every exam & does them in class. The exams are almost identical to the reviews. Lets you use any calculator for exams (even TI-89s). There are 3 exams (20%) and 1 final (40%). Extremely easy class if you go to class, take notes and understand how to solve all the problems in the exam reviews.
You get used to the accent after a while.
If you have taken calculus before this class is really easy. Her accent is hard to deal with at first but you get used to it. There is optional homework but you dont really have to do it, as long as you go to her reviews before the tests and go over her review sheets its an easy A. But if you have never taken calculus dont take her you will be lost
Dr. Bystrik is a god-send. Calc 2 is potentially an extremely difficult class, but she made it amazing. There were 2 take home tests that were extremely easy. Not only that, but she gives reviews over the test material that are verbatim to the actual test. The final was the easiest final exam I've ever taken. She is also VERY intelligent. TAKE HER!
I had her for diffy Q. After the first test we were able to convince her to give rest of the tests TAKE HOME. We even convince her to make the final a take home exam. The material for this class is average. However if you are going to major in math, and will be taking higher math courses dont take her because you really dont learn the material.
She is very smart and super nice. She is always available if you need her. Easy A and I had never taken Calc. before. We had 3 tests(2 of which were take homes) and the final. She gives reviews for every test and they are almost identical to the test. Take her
She is so so so easy! Easy A! She doesn't make sense during lectures and her accent is annoying, but you get used to it. Her reviews are identical to the exams, so just go to her reviews, and this class is an A for sure. Her class is really boring though, but her tests are easy and she gives extra credit
She is so so so easy! Easy A! She doesn't make sense during lectures and her accent is annoying, but you get used to it. Her reviews are identical to the exams, so just go to her reviews, and this class is an A for sure. Her class is really boring though, but her tests are easy and she gives extra credit
She is very difficult to understand and goes very quickly in class, but if you just read the book you can do fine. Just convince her to make all of the tests take home and its an easy A.
Her lectures can get confusing at times, but she gives Study guides to every test she gives, so as long as you study the guides, it should be an easy A. Very helpful during office hours
Wonderful and caring professor. Class is not difficult to understand and she is always willing to help. She was one of my favorite professors at UM.
She is the nicest woman in the world but you cannot understand a word she says.
She is the nicest teacher ever. Her lectures are kind of hard to understand because of her accent and she goes really fast but if you do the reviews before the test you'll be fine. Homework is never checked and textbook is never used
nice lady.has a horrible ukrainian accent.VERY HARD to understand.she moves fast, speaks low & to the board.i dont pay attention in class, only during her reviews which are the same as test & quizzes but she changes some #s.tons of extra credit.dont take if you need to actually LEARN calc(engineers).take-home tests if your class isnt all engineers.
She is a good teacher, she does explain things well BUT it took me a while to learn her accent and she does go very fast. I failed the first test and first few quizzes then got a tutor and with the almost identical to the test reviews i ended up with an a. Listen carefully, ask questions, use the book, and ask her slow down because she will.
easy but you wont learn the topic
You won't learn very much in this class. She's a very nice teacher, but her accent and teaching style combine to make a formidable barrier to learning the topic. If you have already taken Calculus 1, just take her class and you won't do much work.
Best teacher ever. I learned everything in calculus II and got an A. She stayed after class when i needed help on topics and she genuinely wants her students to succeed.
I took her for calc I andII and even though she has an accent she is still comprehensible. Has a passion for what she does and is always willing to help you if you look for it. nice lady and her reviews are EXACTLY like the exams. Can't fail.
She is an incredibly nice teacher. She will go out of her way to help you out. She loves to teach and she knows her stuff. Her test are challenging, but take home so no trouble there. She gives ALOT of extra credit, and i would recommend doing ALL of them. She has a bit of accent that takes some getting used to.
Dr. Bystrik is perhaps the nicest professor at UM. She will do anything to help explain a concept to a student, and always encourages office hours to those who would like them. Her grading is extremely easy; tests are 1/2 take-home and 1/2 in class, sometimes with computers allowed. Reviews given are practically the tests. Amazing teacher for calc.
UNDISPUTEDLY the best professor you could ever have for calculus 2. As long as you come to class, you don't even have to take notes and you'll be able to get an A+ because her notes directly relate to the assessments and she's an amazingly lenient professor, who will actually change test dates to help you. Cancelled the post ultra quiz, enough said
She is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She really wants everyone to do well and even if the content is confusing, she does her best to help you understand and make sure you get a good grade. I am awful at math and I ended the class with an A. Definitely take her.
Hardly went to class, didn't really learn anything, but got an A+. She lets you use laptops for all quizzes, and more reference pages than you will ever need for tests and finals (plus calculator). Her quiz/test reviews are exactly the same as the exams just with different numbers.
Shes not a good professor by any means, although she is always willing to help you out. She is a nice lady, but horrible at teaching math concepts in a comprehensive way. Beware: the take home tests previously mentined are no more, and she doesnt even teach well enough in class for you to understand the question or answer. Technology helps, but...
Undisputed the best teacher ever. Never showed up to class only on the Review days because they are exactly the same as the exam only with different numbesr. TAKE HER if you want an easy A. If you want to actually learn the material don't take her at all.
She's amazing! Calculus 2 is by far the hardest math I've taken (and I love math), yet somehow I did well. She's very helpful during office hours and so willing to supply extra practicetext (online docs, questions during class, worksheets, take home quizzes, skilled Wolfram use) for aid. Love her.
She is so easy. You get to have cheat cheats for tests (even the midterm and final) and the questions are the same one from the review just different numbers. She lets you use you computer for quizzes. Was a joke for calculus.
Her accent can be tough to understand. You can use your computer for quizzes and graphing calculators for tests so they're pretty easy and she gives tons of extra credit opportunities.
Show up for review days and tests and that's all you need. Super easy to do well, all tests get cheat sheets and all quizzes are take home or she lets you use a laptop. However, you will learn NOTHING. Don't take if you actually need to learn the material or will take other math classes. Otherwise you're golden.
She does have an accent but, after a while you get used to it. She goes pretty quickly through problems so it's a good idea to just skim the book prior to attending her lectures. For the most part, her review sessions prior to exams were very similar. Also, she provides extra credit. Her office hours are really helpful! Awesome professor!
EASIEST PROFESSOR AT UM. Get the notes from any student who took her last semester and I guarantee you that you will get an A+++. She gives a lot of extra credits. She doesnt change her exams.
Prof. Bystrik is by far the easiest professor. Copy everything from her reviews and she only changes the numbers on the tests. Her accent is heavy but you get used to it after a while. Attendance isn't mandatory at all. Show up to the reviews and you'll be fine. Get the work from a previous student and EASY EASY A. Calc 2 has never been easier!!!
Great professor when you want help at her office hours, during lecture can be pretty confusing and hard to get across your specific question in a big lecture. Exam Reviews are very similar to tests. Gives extra credit, lecture attendance not mandatory.
Very Nice Professor. Kind of tough to understand accent in the beginning of the semester. She does not teach by interacting with the class. She is not very organized with her thoughts and her written work is all over the place and messy. She also goes very fast, as if she expects some knowledge of the subject. Quiz and Test reviews are KEY!
If you need to take more math after calc 2, DON'T take her, it will be hard to learn. If this is your last math course you need, take her! Easy A! You won't learn much unless you teach yourself. Quizzes we get to use laptops & gr. calcs, on exams we get two pgs of cheat sheet & gr. calc. Reviews before quiz/exam which are the only classes I went to
Bystrik is a great person. She genuinely wants everyone to pass her class. Her extra credit opportunities are amazing because you can walk into a final with no worry that you're still gonna get an A in the class. If you want an A TAKE HER, I MEAN IT.
She has an accent, but you quickly get used to it. Do the HW /practice problems from class and her exam review! No surprises on exams - very similar to the problems she goes over in class. Quizzes are not hard and help out your grade. Also, she is very helpful during office hours! Take her class!!
If you want to actually learn calc 2, dont take Bystrik. just show up to the reviews and copy down verbatim what she writes on the board (no matter how sloppy her notes are), show up in the last five minutes of class to hand in hw, get work from your friends. you can use a comp on quizzes and two pages of notes on exams. super easy A
One of my fave professors at UM. She is so nice and wants all her students to get a really good grade. If you don't show up to lectures, you'll still get a good grade but if you do show up you'll get a good grade and actually learn. Also, she gives bonus points for literally everything. So easy to succeed in her class
If you had her for Calc 1, it's the same exact thing. She really cares about her students! You just need 182 points to get an A. Her class really boosts up your GPA. TAKE HER!!
God bless Dr. Bystrik. Show up to class and she'll literally give you the answers to the tests and let you bring them to the test written on a cheat sheet. Computers allowed on all quizzes. The A is so easy. You won't actually learn a lick of math, though, so if its not your terminal math class probably don't take her class.
The class content and tests themselves are difficult but she gives numerous opportunities to get extra credit (about 1/3 of all the points I earned were EC) and she practically tells you the answers to test questions. The tests were in groups and you can use your notes and the internet. Show up and do the extra credit and you'll get and A for sure.
Extremely easy class to get an A in. Tests and quizzes are actually really tough but she allows group tests and occasionally she will let you take it home if nobody finishes on time. As lenient as it gets.
Incredibly nice woman. Also insanely smart too, seems like she understands basically any math out there. Material is hard but gives you so much extra credit for insurance to keep your grade high. If you want to conserve your gpa, this professor is a good choice.
Honestly not quite as easy to get an A as others would say. I did all of the HWs and didnt get any extra points on them idk how. Still, I never went to class and got an A. I have no clue what Calc 2 is about.
She is such a sweet lady and cares about all of her students! She is not that good of a teacher, but with a little bit of effort, you can get an A+ in this class. She gives a lot of bonus points.
Her classes are the EASIEST Calculus classes at UM! She permits you to utilize reference sheets on her exams, including the final! She offers SEVERAL extra credit opportunities. However, these reasons are why the Engineering Department dislikes her. I still achieved a "B" in the class having VERY LITTLE knowledge in Calculus and with a tutor!
Extremely extremely lenient. Gives a lot of extra credit to assure you will pass. Actual material is very hard tho
She is a great professor but her exams are tough.
Take her class if you can. I never went to class and still got an A. Great professor, really caring, gives TON of extra credit. Make sure you go to the class before the exam tho, cuz that's when she gives a review for the exam. take her class if you can.
they are trying to make MTH 161 uniform which sucks. Bystrik is a really nice person and decent teacher, but this year they scaled grades down. I had an A+ and ended with an A- because the department was being annoyingly strict. Calc I is becoming the same for every teacher now so really doesn't matter who you take anymore
If you don't actually care about math and don't need to take any classes that build off this, take it. She gives you extra credit just for showing up to class sometimes and she either gives you the answers to the online assignments or you can look them up. She only gives two exams besides the final and you get cheat sheets on them all.
Dr. Bystrik is very knowledgable and interested in math and teaches everything we need to know for our tests. She is not the most organized lecturer when it comes to presenting the material and she has a thick accent but I enjoyed having her.
Professor Bystrik is nice but she didn't teach me anything. Her tests were short and she gave you the answers before you took the exam. The class was pointless but an easy A. Not worth my time.
Dr. Bystrik is always available to help. It is pretty clear that virtual teaching is a bit rough for her and that she shines in person. With that being said, learning the material virtually was definitely not ideal and I had to google some things to make sure I understood them. She was always willing to help and gave tons of easy assignments.
Lol I did nothing in this class. She gave the test answers before the test so I never went to class. It seemed like she struggled with the online format and just gave everyone A's because of it. Very sweet lady though and I'm sure she's probably a better teacher under normal circumstances.
Amazing didn't learn a single thing and barley showed up and got an A. My advice is make a groupme with the class to share answers.
I have never gotten an A in a math class before until this one. Professor Bystrik did all the assignments with us in class, as well as the very few tests we had. The actual content of this class is very hard, but there is no need to worry if you take Dr. Bystrik. Her accent is a little hard to understand sometimes. She is so kind and so passionate.
This class is so boring because of the material. prof Bystrik cares a lot and really enjoys teaching, but everyone is so lost in class because of the topics. Assignments and quizzes are done in class with her. There is one extra credit opportunity.
I can't even tell you what Mth 113 is about but I got an A+. Super easy to do well. Just homeworks, where you get the answers to during class and a final, where you get the answers to in class as well. She is the professor to take! Form a group me at the beginning of the semester and you will get an A
This course was very easy to pass. If you actually care to learn about finite math then I suggest not to take this course with her. She goes over all assignments and quizzes in class so you are basically guaranteed a good grade if you show up. There is a final but she goes over the answers in class.
Favorite math professor by far at UM. Minimal work, no exams (except the final), and attendance is not mandatory. If you want a really good understanding of the course material this is not for you, but if you want a stress free course Dr. Bystrik is perfect. So passionate about math and really wants to engage with students and share her knowledge.
I've only been to class 3 times all semester and I have a perfect grade in the class. If you're looking for an easy math class definitely take it with her. Best grade I've gotten in my entire college career.
She is so sweet and gives you multiple attempts on multiple choice questions on exams including the final. (fall 2020)
Great math professor but you have to keep up with material yourself since there's no homework etc.
Very nice lady. Easy A class, but you wont really learn much. If you dont need anything past Calc 2 for your major then take this class. Attendance isn't mandatory.
Professor Bystrik has to be the best professor at UM by far. She is very nice and understanding about assignments and makes every assignment due at the end of the semester. If you do not need to take any more advanced math than defenitely take this class, it is a free A and attendance is not required. What is not to love about Professor Bystrik!
She's incredibly nice and understanding. Definitely best professor at math department.
She's great! She has a very thick accent and sometimes she was really hard to understand but all the lectures were online as well, homework and tests were done in class with her, and open for weeks online to do. And the final was even multiple choice and multiple attempts. I didn't even study lol I just brute forced the thing and got an A.
I took MTH113 and I still have no idea what this class is BUT she does all assignments with you and she truly does care. Take her if you want an easy A. Oh yeah and she has a very thick Russian accent but don't worry you'll be fine.
Take this class!!!! All assignments are posted online, including the final exam. I showed up to class probably three times throughout the semester and I finished the class with an A+. The teacher is very understanding and for all of the assignments, you are given three tries to complete them. I would take this class again if I could.
Amazing professor all assignments are posted online and you have multiple tries. The final is also online no lockdown at all !!
if you want to actually learn math, don't take this professor. But for everyone else who wants an easy 100, take her!! She does all "tests" with the whole class (as long as you have a group me, you literally just need one person to attend) and those are the only assignments. Even the midterm/final was done with the class.
TAKE HER!! unless you actually need to learn calc 2... but if you don't need to continue after definitely take her. Everything is taken online with no lockdown.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SHE WAS TEACHING US IN FINITE MATH. she didnt try to teach it, she would just write the problems on the board BEFORE class and wouldn't actually tell u how to solve it. She also is impossible to understand with her thick accent. I haven't learned a thing.
MTH 113 was the easiest class I have taken at UM. Dr. Bystrik is a super nice professor and will do everything in her power to help her students succeed. She is clearly passionate and loves to talk about the history of mathematics. She also gives students 3 tries to do assignments and there was no homework outside of class.
I absolutely adore Dr. Bystrik. Contrary to popular belief (took this class Fall 2023) the exams were in person. However, they were not challenging if you went to class and took the time to learn the material. Dr. Bystrik is extremely knowledgeable and willing to help students.
All you need to pass this class is common sense. Don't take Bystrik to learn, but if you need an easy A, this may be the easiest you get. I attended maybe 4 classes throughout the semester. You get three tries on each test, which are already multiple choice. Sweet lady, but seems oblivious to the fact that her students do not put in any effort.
I did not learn a single thing, so if learning is your objective, look elsewhere. That being said I didn't go to class for 2 months straight and ended with an A+. Everything is online and multiple attempts. She is super nice but somehow hasn't realized no one is learning a thing. Also her accent is very thick and hard to listen to.
The 8am was worth it, and attendance isn't mandatory, but I went anyways because I felt bad only 5 people showed up every morning and she helped out on assignments if you went. Would highly recommend her if you just need to pass calc 2 and don't need it for your major or another class.
THE GOAT. I took this because the reviews said it was a free A and it really was. Ended with a 100.2%. Only showed up to class like 5 times and still got everything. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU NEED CALC 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She just told some fun stories about calc and let us have 3 attempts and online graphing calculator on every assignments.
This class was incredibly easy. Graded on about 10 blackboard quizzes all with unlimited attempts (this includes the midterm and the final). Professor Bystrik loves teaching this class and genuinely cares about her students. As someone who hates math, I would absolutely take a class with Professor Bystrik again.
TAKE HER!! She is very sweet and caring and all assignments including tests and midterms are done online and you have several days to complete them. She often puts up answers on board in class so attending is beneficial but not necessary!
Incredibly easy class. If you want to learn about math, this isn't the best class, but if you want a free A, definitely take her. The class is incredibly easy and all the exams and assignments are common sense and don't require any outside work. Incredible class if you aren't a fan of math and just need a class for the requirement.
Prof, Bystrik is a sweet lady who wants her students to do well. This class is an easy A. She puts quiz and test answers (including midterm and final) on the board during class and there is no hw. If you can hold off on taking math I would wait to take it with her. Highly recommend.
Take her class! She wants students to do well and 113 is such an easy A with her - she walks you through all of the assignments and exams in class, but none of them require a lockdown browser so you can use outside resources to get the answers even if you don't go to class. She is so sweet I would 100% take her again.
Tbh, easiest prof ever. U won't learn much, but u will get the grade. U don't need to goto class to get an A. Everything is online and she give sm time to do it. I am not the best at math and I ended with a 104%. If u need to fulfill a math requirement, take her. Very nice woman too.
easiest class i've ever taken. attendance was not mandatory, which was reflected in the class numbers, but all of the exams were online with 3 attempts and no lockdown browser. she gives you resources to compute the problems online, and is clearly very passionate about what she teaches.
Prof. Bystrik is an amazing individual! Her class is definitely manageable and one of the best professors I've had at UM!
Easy A all around! Professor Bystrik makes this class a breeze - everything is online with unlimited attempts. I barely attended and still got an A+. The lectures are forgettable, but unstuck study helped me breeze through the quizzes.
If you need math credits definitely take 113 with her. Super chill and caring.
Dr. Bystrik is an incredible professor who clearly cares deeply about the subjects she teaches. She doesn't require attendance, but if you show up to every class, she will give you extra credit. If you have the option to take this course, take it.
Prof is the easiest for math req. She reviews and conducts open-note exams in class with help. No attendance required at first but later in the semester she required due to material difficulty. Super kind and understanding.
Easiest class i've taken at um only thing is that you do not learn. only take if you dont need further math.
The class was probably the easiest math course I have taken at UM. The professor cares a lot not only about the subject she teaches but the success of her students. She is very helpful if you ask a question and makes sure that students understand the material. Attend class throughout the semester even when attendance isn't mandatory.
Dr.Bystrik is a nice professor; she is passionate about what she is teaching and provides plenty of examples. The course was simple and manageable. EASY class, but she might be difficult to understand.
Really good professor if you want to do well in a mandatory math class. Super sweet person and gives lots of opportunities for grading. Not the best choice if you want to learn the material really well.
Bystrik is a super caring and intelligent teacher. That being said this was the easiest class I have ever taken. Everything is online no lockdown. Dont take this class if you want to learn, cause you wont. Take it for 3 free credits. You could not go to class once and get a 100 in the class
