Extreamly helpful, difficult classes, fun labs, great personality
anna is the best bio teacher I have ever had. tests are right from the notes, but study guides are overkill.
Engaging lectures, pleasant lady, quizzes and tests are difficult without being murderous, and we all learned the stuff we were there to learn. Bottom line: She's great!!
explained things very well and her tests and quizzes werent so bad. plus she was good to look at which made me want to go to class!
Really got me into Biology. The class actually helped me make my decision and change my major to Environmental Studies.
AWESOME teacher. Not an easy class, but she teaches it well. Interesting assignments. She explains material very well. Highly recommended!
Take this class!! you get to go camping and get to know your class really well, easy class if you study, lowest grade in our class was a B
love the labs, she's really friendly and a fun person,

It is a pretty fun class. She makes them as interesting as she can. The field trips are pretty cool plus she is pretty hot for a teacher!
Levin is a great teacher. She was always very approachable. Her lessons were clear and she tried really hard to have everyone understand before moving on. She has a way of explaining things so it makes sense and relates to what you are in to. Highly recomended!

Great teacher! Makes sense of complicated material. If you come to class and takes notes you'll do fine.
Great teacher! Tests and quizes are hard, but if you have an A in the class before the final you don't have to take it.
her powerpoints are great! She posts them on her website so you can DL them. But she doesnt explain labs well but she is very approachable about them if/when you have questions. Good class though!
I love Ms. Levin! She goes out of her way to make her lectures interesting and comprehensible and makes sure that everybody knows what they're doing. Her tests directly reflect her study guides and she holds study sessions before each test. The class is easy as long as you study and you don't have to take the final if you score an A in the class.
DO NOT BUY BOOK! It was a waste of money, never opened it. I got an A in the class so I did not have to take the final.
Good teacher very interesting lectures. MUST ATTEND ALL LABS. test are hard if you dont study well. NOT an easy A. barely read book. Must know specific names of inventors and founders which are hard to keep track of. Overall, its a class youll get alot out of & if you study hard youll do ok on the tests
Wow, I'm surprised how high this teacher is rated. She is no where near as good as these ratings would make you think. She is a horrible teach. The tests are VERY hard, and the lectures are INCREDIBLY boring. There is so much info covered on the tests that passing the class requires you to have known everything she covers before taking her class.
levin was an amazing teacher!! she is very helpful and just wants for you to do well in the class. you do have to go to class though because if you don't, you wont have the information for the tests. AWESOME TEACHER! WOULD HAVE TO RECOMMEND HER!!
Awsome teacher. Very clear and understandable. You do NOT need the book at least for my class. Lectures could be a bit slow for some. Review before tests was VERY comprehensive, you could get away with 0 studying and go to the review and be ready for the test.
great class
Very helpful, and knows what shes talking about. Makes sure everyone is on the same level playing field.
She is now teaching at the San Ramon Campus. She is a Helpful and interesting Professor
OMG, she flippin' rawks!!! She absolutely knows her stuff and she wants you to also! She explains things for all to understand, she's helpful when u don't and she's patient with the most non-related questions (moreso that I was! haha) HIGHLY RECOMMEND - take her & u won't be disappointed, GUARANTEED!!
Uses lots of examples in lecture. Likes students participating in discussions & asking Q's. Labs hard to get full credit on, but she's willing to help. Study guide given b4 each exam. Jeopardy review = extra credit on exams. Presentation/paper is graded leniently. A in class = no final. She needs to improve the clarity of terminology in lectures.
She's nerdy hot. That is because she has a PHD in Fungi....FUNGI! Adding to her nerdy hot status is her being the head of math and sciences at the San Ramon campus. What is a man to do! Sadly when I found out she had a husband and child it totally killed the fantasy for me. She's great. Anyone that could'nt hadle her class is a total ****.
Anna is a great teacher and the class is awesome- of the three week summer session we only spent four days entirely in class. Her emphasis on being in the field makes it easier and a lot more interesting to learn. She grades exams hard, but she is totally approachable and always willing to help. Don't bother buying the textbooks.
If you go to every lecture, listen, read most of the chapters, etc... you'll pass. If you want an A though it takes some diligent studying. I got a C by just "kind of" trying. Didnt like the worksheets. Tests are moderately hard. The essay wasnt clearly explained at first but once I started it, I kinda enjoyed doing it. Got an A on that :)
She's the reason I decided to major in bio! She really knows her stuff and makes class interesting. She's young and relates with her students well. Her lectures are clear and she gives students good ways to remember the material. Use the study guides and her office hour review sessions and you'll do well on tests. Really a dedicated teacher. :)
Great teacher. LOVE her. Studying is mandatory!!! Her study sessions are a huge help as well. She is very passionate about biology. Don't expect to just show up to class every once in a while and get an A. If you don't waste her time, she won't waste yours! She is very easy to understand and very organized. HIGHLY recommend!
I took it with the Lab..... really time consuming but worth it if you take it from her. She is a very soft spoken sweet teacher, she STICKS to her syllabus as far as grading if you have an 88.3 she will make you take the final. Pay attention to the LABS they COUNT/add up. Do all study guides they are extremely helpful.
Take notes dont rely on the powerpoints even though her ppt are very clear and helpful. Attend class daily and you will be fine, get a head start on your project she assigns. OVERALL she was an AWESOME TEACHER.
Super Nice and really helpful. The tutoring sessions she help saved my life becasue to really get a hold of everything there needs to be a good amount of study time. My advice is to find people who you can study with and you'll do fine. LEvine is really one of the best at DVC Sr
This women is incredibly attractive but more importantly loves teaching this class. She puts time into making the tests relatable and truly cares about her students success.
Dr. Levin was my first biology teacher at DVC and i am overjoyed that i had her. She is extremely helpful, holding study sessions for every test as well as being extremely understanding and kind to her students. If you are going to take a biology class....TAKE HERS!
Dr. Levin was the nicest teacher ever, and really did everything she could to make sure everyone who wanted to pass, would pass. Start your project early and read the ppts/do the study guides before each test and you'll get an A. Again BEST TEACHER EVER!!
BEST BIO TEACHER. Very passionate about the subject she teaches. She really cares for the students. Makes the material fun and interesting. Good portion of the tests/quizes are short answer. Really listen to her lectures and examples, and you'll do great in the class. Labs were fun but grading was tough. highly recommend you take this class!
Dr. Levin is a great teacher. She is so helpful, and prepares her students well before exams. This is a great course to take if you need a biology refresher before anatomy and physiology.
Dr. Levin is the best. She is extremely precise, her love for the subject is very apparent and it makes you excited to be learning all the things along with her. She's really the best Bio teacher I've ever had.
Difficult class, but you really learn the material. If you have an A, you don't have to take the final, but there is no extra credit of any value. Levin has enthusiasm for her topic. Her ppts are fun and simple, but don't plan on getting out early. Uses entire class time efficiently.
Levin is awesome. She is so sweet and super helpful. Biology has always come easy to me, but I feel like succeeding in this class is simple if you come to class, listen, take notes, and study. If you want As on the test, use the study guides!!! She grades hard on labs, but its only 5 points. never used the book, only for reference. TAKE HER!
Has not posted grades all year. Her power points don't help on tests. If you actually want to learn, and not teach yourself don't take this class. She never gave us a study guide for the final either. She said "use your past tests" our past tests are scantrons and were no help at all.
Dr, Levin is awesome! She made me love the subject of Biology, she really wants to help her students, and her power points are fun and interesting. There is a project at the end of the semester that you have to present, but that is not too bad! I highly recommend her as a teacher. Her study guides are extremely useful for the exam.
Dr Levin is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students, has office hours, has clear lectures, extra credit and is truly passionate about biology. Of course, you can't expect to not show up to class, put in no effort and get an A, just look through her powerpoints and that's all of the test Q's. book not needed.
She lets you know exactly what will be on the test.
Took time out of her day to make sure you were passing her class. Her lectures were very organized and as long as you took notes, you could pass any quiz or test she gave. She definitely made you work for it, but that made it that much more rewarding when good grades were given. I really loved her and would for sure take her class again.
One of the best teachers I have ever had- if not THE best. She will always go out of her way to help you understand material & she does not surprise you with assignments or quizzes. Anything you are tested on she will make more than clear. She doesn't make you feel dumb when you need help and is funny, making even lecture-lab classes go by quickly.
Extremely nice. Easy Grader. No textbook use. No phones. BEST PROFESSOR EVER. The tests and quizzes are 100% the study guide and the lectures. Nothing is random. Read it + remember it and there is no way you won't get an A. Especially with all the extra credit she allows. BTW, I did subpar on all the labs (out of 5) and I still managed to get A
This Professor became my best friend during her study sessions. Professor Levin not only expresses her knowledge of Biological science, she expresses her passion for it three times as much. If you want to pass this class all you have to do is pay attention.
TAKE HER!! Professor Levin was one of the best biology professors I've had this semester! She goes into depth about the topic if you do not understand the concept. She expresses her passion for biology which makes me interested about the topic. In order to pass, you got to study, pay attention, and GO TO STUDY SESSIONS! They really help!
Dr. Levin has been the best professor and I wish there were more like her. She takes the time outside of class to construct study groups to help those that need more of an understand of the chapters before the test or quiz. She gives extra credit and does fun review sessions before an exam. I definite;y recommend taking her, she cares.
She is a wonderful teacher! Very passionate about biology, understanding with grading, and offers extra credit. Powerpoints online and you don't need to rent or buy a textbook even though she put it on the syllabus. One of the best teachers I've had in all of my time at DVC.
A real gem! One of the sweetest profs I've ever had, but she still grades fairly and has high standards for you. She has fun reviews before tests, she's extremely nice and easy to talk too, and her lectures are spot on with what will be on the test! I missed 2 weeks bc of a trip but I told her ahead of time & studied well and I still made an A+
very great teacher having this be my first bio 101 class. The labs-very boring and tedious I recommend picking a good lab partner dont pick on the first day. So time flys by faster. lecture heavy class but she made it interesting knew what she was talking about. You must study! If you dont study you will not pass. Missed many classes notgood
I love Dr. Levin! This is a science class so you really need to attend class to get all the information but so long as you study, you can definitely get an A. Professor is incredibly nice and understanding, and explains things very clearly. Also, if you maintain an A throughout the semester, you are excused from taking the final! Take her classes!
Anna Levin is an excellent and well-respected professor. Genuinely cares so much about the course material, & it shines through her lectures. Extremely knowledgeable & always brings in new science news into the class that was just released that week. You need to work hard for this class, but she WILL HELP YOU if you ask for it! Take her!
Dr. Levin was an amazing teacher! I took her Bio with Lab and as a class we got to know her better. She is very funny and always made the class a lot of fun! Be sure to study for the tests and you will do fine. One of my favorite classes I took through DVC.
I absolutely loved her class, she is a wonderful person. Although I am a math and science person I did not like science til I took her Bio 102 class. She is very knowledgable and passionate about the subject. The study sessions after class helped me a lot and you get EC for going. The class requires time and effort to get the grade you want.
Anna Levin is hands down, the best professor or teacher I've ever had. Not enough room here to write! She is extremely clear in lecture, lab (I've also taken her 102 class, and will be taking 126 next semester), and especially leading up to the test. If you take notes, study, and come to lecture/lab, there won't be anything surprising on the tests
Great class and teacher! I hate science with a passion but had to take this to fill a requirement. Absolutely loved it. Lots of field trips and socializing + fun and interesting lectures. Tests are very fair and Prof Levin is super kind. Would recommend! :)
Everything that could go wrong this semester did. From my family contracting Covid, to having to move out of the Bay area mid-semester. She not only is an amazing professor, but a genuinely good and caring person. I would not have finished this semester if it wasn't for her encouragement. The class was fun and interesting too!
Professor Levin is a great she cares about student success and is always there if you need any help. With that being said her tests are hard and not open note you have to put in the effort and watch the lectures to do your labs correctly. If you want an easy A don't take Prof Levin, but if you want to truly learn I highly suggest you take her class
She's lovely! You can tell she's really enthusiastic about ecology AND about teaching- her class has more work than my other classes this semester but she's been such a delight that I don't see that as a bad thing. I think I might be an eco major now, she's really that good!
This class has been the hardest class I've ever taken. She's trying to make the class the same as if it was in person, but reality is, we're in a pandemic. Her study guides are at least 10 pages long, & there are 3 HUGE exams, plus a research paper and presentation on zoom in front of your peers. I officially hate science even more. Not an easy A.
Prof Levin has made the class so, extremely hard during the pandemic. Beware if you do not enjoy science! 3 HUGE exams (no open note), 3 study guides over 10 pages, research paper 5+ pages and a 10 min presentation in front of your peers. She's nice and understanding, but she needs to give her students some well deserved breathing space. Too much..
I took her BIOSC-126 class online, and her lectures are really engaging and informative, and she is really nice and helpful if you run into problems. You have to know the material really thoroughly to do well on tests, but if you are paying attention in class and doing your work you should be able to understand it because she is really good teachin
I LOVE HER SO MUCH. Bio was never my strong suit in HS. I've gotten Bs and Cs in those HS classes, but with Levin, if you attend her office hours you'll do so much better. Great at explaining concepts and tests are relatively ok (not open note) but if you spend time on the study guide you will do amazing. She helps A LOT!! You will not regret it.
Professor Levin is wonderful! While there is a lot of work for the class, she always cares and wants to make sure her students are not overwhelmed. She responds to emails very quickly and you never feel unclear about what she is looking for. By far one of the most reasonable professors I have ever had!
Amazing professor! You have to put in the effort to watch lectures, do the assignments, and get help through email or study sessions if you want to do well. She will help you. The content was interesting to me and I loved her passion about fungi.
really sweet person and very understanding. online class not asynch. u must attend all classes unless u tell her. there r lectures every week that take up max 2 hours but vry important bc all test questions come from lectures. major research paper (mine was 12 pg) at end of semester, but easy. mostly busywork, but if u do the work, u def will pass.
This was my favorite class I have ever taken. Anna really cares about you and your grades. The lectures are so interesting and the field trips around the bay are really impressive. If you're a science major, take this course! Very easy to contact. You will learn a lot and actually take it in b/c it's prepped practically and with care.
Can't write enough positive feedback, this class is excellent. There is a lot of work but Professor Levin makes an active effort to help students as much as possible. Accessible outside of class to answer questions, lots of useful information, supportive for students struggling with the material, and helpful constructive feedback on assignments.
Field trip and lab based class, but the Professor made it very enjoyable for everyone. Only 3 exams throughout the entire course. Attendance highly recommended.
This class isn't bad at all. I took this online. The only thing that immensely bugged me was that she was so knit picky with her grading. it is almost as if she just refuses to give a full grade. I think this class is best fit for those who are majoring in the realm of biological science. It's a wee bit tough taking an ES class as any other major.
She's okay. She's super picky about grading and she uses AI detection for all writing. I've been flagged for a 0 when I didn't even use AI, I tried communicating and she didn't believe me when I even gave her proof that I went to a tutor. Lotsss of homework and 3x 30-45 minute lectures every week. I'm also taking 6 other classes. My mistake.
Professor Levin is an amazing environmental science professor! This class was a partial online class and labs once a week. She really cares for her students and helps her students when they need help. Lots of homework and make sure to write down notes during lectures. Lots of material on the study guide and make sure to study. Labs are fun!
she is a really hard grader. if you misspell something, she will cut your grade. she doesn't really care, even if you talk to her about your grade. she doesn't round up your overall grade. doesn't give extra credit. if you miss up one of your exams, then you are not getting an A that's for sure. she assigns like 20 assignment a week.
Professor Levin is one of the best professors I've had. She genuinely cares and listens to her students. She gives extra credit opportunities throughout the semester and isn't a tough grader. The class is easy as long as you do the assignments and show up. I'm not a stem major and took this for a GE and would recommend her to anyone!
The professor is a caring person but an annoying instructor. She assigns homework like crazy I would log in on Monday and see 3 assignments due by the end of the week just for her to add another 5 out of nowhere. It would kill my mood because I would do my work for every class just to get more added out of nowhere.
Informative, and very political. Difficult for a dedicated student. The load of work was overwhelming. Took- summer class -16 wks into 6 weeks. Abundance of reading, & timed tests. Negative: completed exams will NOT be shown to students. Prof- will allow you to see results by appt. We have a legal right to see our scores, ask dept chair.
Professor Levin was one of the best professors I've ever had. She truly cares about getting to know each student and helping them succeed in this class. She is very knowledgeable about the topics covered in this class and her lectures break them down well.
Professor Levin is one of the best teachers I've met during my time at DVC. She's caring, enthusiastic, and is incredibly interested in what she's teaching. You can tell she loves what she does and it shows so much. My experience with her class was lovely and she's amazing in every way. You'd be doing yourself a favor by taking her class!
She is so awesome. She cares about what she is teacher and is so personable. Best teacher I've ever had!
Tough. She's nice enough for the most part, but she's very nitpicky with grading, including spelling. She cares, but more about the content than the students. Class was all right. Earned an A but not without a lot of work. Do not take if you're not a bio major.
Amazing professor! She made the class super engaging and the field trips were a highlight—fun and educational. She's passionate about what she teaches and really cares about her students.
Very nitpicky when it comes to grading and very homework-heavy. If you are complimenting me on my work and telling me it is excellent, why not give me the full credit? She does not even comment on what I did wrong. She'll comment, "excellent work!" and give me 18/20.
Some test questions for lectures are way too specific---obscure points few will write down, and the quiz questions for documentaries are all scrambled, so following the quiz while watching the documentary won't help you. You'll have to replay it over & over because the questions are not in order with the progression of the documentary. its annoying
Easy to do online class. Took AP Env Sci in high school and felt like this was just a repeat, and that AP class doesn't transfer over. Summer class was more condensed with a few hours a week of stuff to do and a multiple choice test every 2 weeks, but wasn't hard. Had a weekly discussion board post which was the only thing I didn't like for it.
Very nitpicky with homework. Lots of it too. Loved the content but this prof made it difficult and frustrating. So much homework and is very unclear about grading criteria. One positive thing was the field trips were fun but unfair they were required when it's difficult and expensive for transport for some. Take another professor.
Professor Levin is a truly amazing professor. She cares deeply about her students and their interests, and helping them to succeed. Lectures are engaging and the lab activities are always interesting. The field trips are such a blast too. She is hands down my favorite professor I've had the pleasure to take a class from during my time at DVC.
