Be forewarned. If you're trying to take Nutrition because you think it's an easy A class, it's not with this one. You'll have to really study hard, and and a big tip is to do your diet assignments early so you can show her. There is no extra credit.
Anna seems to have great enthusiam for the subject matter. The lectures are very interesting and well organized. The class is challenging but all the material is presented very clearly. Anna's one of the best teachers I've had.
Always Yawning. Lecture is like reading a book. Very Boring. Nothing is clear in her lecture.
The most scatterbrained, longwinded, boring teacher you'll ever suffer through. Very unclear on context, tests do not coincide with her material if you can figure out what she's teaching from. All over the place, between study notes, overheads, opinions
I thought Anna was excelent. She had every lecture pre-prepared on overheads, and if you go to class, and pay attention it's not hard. She's also very personable and helpful. The material is sometimes simplistic, but that makes it easy to apply to life.
Prepared & knowledgeable. Buy (cheaply) a copy of her overheads to ease note-taking. Expect to use your chemistry/biology skills. Be thorough on your diet analysis even if your diet's awful & you'll do well. Respects her students.
She sucks! unfortunately this is the only nutrution teacher at De Anza I wish we had an other choice but.. she is not clear at all. Nurtrition is a easy subject but she wants to make is sound complex and difficult, but is is not. she is not organized during her lecture and notes. Good Luck
VERY STUPID TEACHER EXTRMLY HARD. HER LECTURE IS WAY HARD. SHE HERSELF DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS SHE TALKING ABOUT, ALWAYS YAWING. NEVER NEVER NEVER ASK HER FOR EXTRA CREDIT BECAUSE SHE WILL MAKE YOU WORK VERY HARD FOR EXTRA CREDIT AND GIVE YOU MAX 5 POINTS BUT NOT ALWAYS 5 SOMETIME LESS THEN 5 LIKE 1 OR
Is middle of the road as far as knowledge on the subject matter. Goes off on personal stories to much and also let's students do the same. Talks down to students at times, makes them feel stupid. Tests are crappy, she kinda tricks you. Really watch the T/F ?'s.
She sucks! unfortunately this is the only nutrution teacher at De Anza I wish we had an other choice but.. she is not clear at all. Nurtrition is a easy subject but she wants to make is sound complex and difficult, but it is not. she is not organized during her lecture and notes. Good Luck!!!
This was a great class! I learned so much. Anna uses many real-life examples which makes it interesting. She is friendly and seems to really care about the students. Her lectures are organized and clear. But you need to work hard to get an A.Ask for help if you need it--she will give it to you.
Of all the prerequisites I have had to take for the nursing program, THIS class was the best, the most valuable. I learned so much. The teacher was extremely dedicated and enthusiastic, as well as friendly and approachable. When I met her in her office, she gave me all the help I needed.GREAT CLASS!
She's awful. when you ask something she makes you feel stupid. her demands are to high and she can't explain anything. I love nutrition and everything about it, but she managed to make me question both myself and my knollege. don't take this class!
I think she has something against people from different race or ethnicity. I have personally seen her being unprofessional with one of my classmates. She made a "wringing her neck" kind of action to a chinese girl who was asking her questions about the lecture. she just needed help from her.
This teacher is a bia bia. She's is **** towards ethnic groups and super sweet to white people. I got a B in her class and I'm not white. I never read the book, I just paid attention to lectures. Her tests are based on lecture so don't waste your money on the book. Easy A jus memorize lecture
I'm not white too, but I still got an A. I like her because she trys to keep up with the current trends. Pay special attention to her lecture notes and try to memorize them accurately, you will get an easy A.
Easy class. but too much homework. class is boring. teacher is OK.
Ms. Miller comes off as a nice, knowledgable teacher, but when it comes down to it, often times students stump her. She talks down to students and plays favorites, god forbid you talk one time in her class.
she's knows a lot about nutrition and is up to date with current issues. and i did learn a lot, but she talks down on students when they question her.
I agree that nutrition is very easy but this intructor makes it so complicated. I got an A by studying my own, and she didn't help anything, even when u ask her somethin',she would say "u're supposed to know it". She thinks she know a lot and everything but she doesn't.
She refuses everything u say that isn't wat she knew. When u got unexpected problem, car broken, and couldn't be in class at the time turning in assignment, she asked u for ur proof(towing receip, repair order)that showed the DATE AND TIME.If someone in ur family know how to fix it,how can u get those?
Miller is nice and she knows how to taech the class pretty w/ her lectures. Its a pain how she would always tell you to print stuff out from etudes.Other than that good teacher!!!
I think she's a pretty good teacher overall but I'm not too convinced she knows everything about nutrition. There are times where people would ask her a question and she would say "I don't know". Just take good notes, do the assignments, and study well for exams and you'll pass easily.
Miller is bad because her lecture is boring. All she does is showing on overhead ejector her lectures. Her assignment is about what you eat and analyzing the vitamin and nutrions contains, which is very time consumming. Even though the class is not hard and it's not hard to get good grade from her, she seems to favor female students than male.
She's wonderful! The class was interesting and she is very enthusiastic about her job. She's always available for help. If you just go to class, it's a guaranteed A. I highly recommend it!
I personally "LIKED" the class but HATED the teacher. SHE JUDGES you from the start and NEVER GIVES YOU A CHANCE AFTER THAT SHE IS UNFAIR,RUDE, and PICKS FAVORITES . IF YOU GET ON HER BAD SIDE SHE DOESN'T MAKE IT OBVIOUS IN CLASS BUT SHE LOWERS YOUR GRADE JUST CAUSE SHE CAN. JUST BE A SUCK UP AND YOU WILL PASS THE CLASS besides that your screwed!
I think she is very clear since the begining of the class. I don't think she plays favorite at all.Regarding questions she doesn't like when people ask stupid questions like 4 example whats in the test? is all in the green sheet. I got a B and I never read the book.If you'r a ESL student and you like nutrion take her, if you do not don't do it.
She is so lazy, as she doesn't want to print her handout to students, so she asked student to print her handout. The printing job is the first assignment and including her other printing stuff, I use more than 20 pagers for the first assignment. She is not a helpful teacher. I need to by a new printer ink for her class.
THIS TEACHER IS THE MOST UNFAIR TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN MY LIFE. SHE PICKS FAVORITES AND TALKS MORE DOWN UPON PEOPLE THAN SHE TEACHES. I HIGH RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT TAKE HER ! YOU WILL REGRET EVERY INCH IF IT!!!!!!
I took HER class because she was the ONLY nutrition teacher there is at de anza. And I still regret taking her and messing up my GPA. I did my extra credit, got good test scores attended all her classes except ONE and I got a C! She made me use SO MUCH INK ON MY COMPUTER IT WAS OUTRAGEOUS! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE A CLASS AT FOOTHILL FOR this cl
OK teacher. Talks too much about how healthy she eats although she doesn't look fit and she has a slight humpback type of look going on. Class was fair. Makes students print too much for notes. Class is boring. I fell asleep many times and nutrition is my area of interest and major. She uses nothing but overheads for lectures. Grade C+ for boredom.
She's not that bad, you print wayy to much stuff out, but printing the handouts is optional and if you do it, it's really helpful, she gives a lot of projects, but as long as you put effort into em, you'll do fine..I kinda liked her, her class was pretty managable, if you'r willing to put the effort in, you'll do fine
Miller's class is pretty easy, but very disappointing. She does not really know much about nutrition, many times answers students with "I don't know." Sometimes she is unclear, and when asked more specific questions to clarify, she gets annoyed at you.
ran out of ink and paper because she makes you print out her whole class lecture every day. They need to get another nutrition teacher.
very useful for your daily life in diet, not so hard but have to make efforts in homeworks, 10 easy quizes and one final, need to print a lot of handouts, but you can go to public library to print for free, so don't worry for your ink.
The class is a drag, you'll relearn most of the things in 40C. Overall, she's an okay teacher. Not real approachable when you have a question or confused with anything. You're better off asking questions on ETUDES and having other people in your class answer your question. It's true, you'll have alot of printing to do so buy ink!
SHE IS NOT BAD. Her test is not difficult. You must do very well in the assignment which helps you to get A. Her handout is very helpful and clear. Althought it is expensive to print everything out but it is worthy.
I honestly don't know what the negative fuss is about, she's a great teacher, very passionate about what she's talking about, eager to teach. I LOVE the idea of printing out lectures beforehand so I KNOW what we're going to discuss, writing and listening at the same time is a challenge for me, so this is easy. I wish all teachers would do this!
I think she is the worst teacher I've ever had. I can't recommend her at all. You better take nutrition to DA Foothill.
Great teacher. Very particular in what she is looking for. Very interested in what she is doing. Great class to take in general for some very useful information for life.
I don't understand why the ratings are so low for her. She is very clear and well-spoken and makes sure that everyone understands what's going on. True, sometimes she may go on a little too long on some topics that everyone has already grasped, but she really has a passion for what she teaches and it really shows when you're in her class. RECOMMEND
Anna Miller makes a point to speak with mathematical precision. The powerpoints help note-taking. Quizzes can be tricky. Exams are sraightforward. Be sure to take the diet assignment seriously. Take advantage of all the hints and tips she gives on this. It counts 20% of your grade. If you can help it, don't take this class together with micro.
I don't understand all the negative comments either. She's kind, clear and helpful. She makes you feel like she really wants you to do well in the class. Just take all the quizes and don't turn in sloppy work. It's not that hard.
one of the worst teachers at deanza. favors a few students in the class who suck up and sit in the front. other then that don't take her whatsoever. people who appraise her are obviously the ones favored by her.
Loved her! Really cares about you understanding the material, never fails to make time for questions...even answers them for like 5 min before taking the quiz! All her handouts REALLY help, and she GIVES u exactly what will be on the quizzes and final exam in the study guides....can't imagine who can't pass this class, getting an A is very doable :
nice person but a bad proffessor...favoritism on her students. her powerpoint doesnt help. might as well read it at home and dont go to class. she always make us go home late and doesnt give us our right of taking our break. make extra effort on studying during exams because its too confusing. i dont recommend her but it seems students doesnt have
she's a nice teacher... she is pretty helpful.. and the tests and quizes are off of her powerpoint slides... it's an easy class to pass... i got an A in there and i would study the powerpoint slides 20 mins before class..
Geez, this lady can have a power trip. She loves to rant about her "healthy" diet and has no problem dissing other people to their face. The one thing I must give credit to is her knowledge & credibility. But! That does not mean you have a right to make people feel stupid! One more thing, she does favor some students...so suck up, haha.
I took it with Micro and got an A. It's not a bad class. You will learn a lot. Answer the study guide questions and you will have no problem with her tests. She does seem to favor some students, but she still grades fairly. The only thing that I don't like about her is that you can't ask her a qustion with out worrying she will get snotty with you.
if she doesn't like you she will find a way to give you a bad grade. Even if you do the extra credit its obvious that she doesn't use it towards your grade. worst nutritious teacher. won't learn anything from her
1 word to describe this class is overwhelming. Although, she isn't as bad as I thought she would be. There will be a lot of reading and she fills you up with NONSTOP information but she is clear on what she wants and there are no suprises in this class. She grades fairly but can be stuckup when asking questions/making comments.
The worst teacher I've ever had. If she doesn't like you, she belittles you when you ask her a question. Very snooty. Talks about her boyfriend all the time.Offers help but will belittle you when you ask for it. Useless teacher. Test questions are very tricky. I will NOT RECOMMEND HER at all, neverrr.
just spoiles your GPA! Even very good students have problem to get B,I am not talking about A!
She is nice, but not very flexible. Make sure to do "exactly" what she asks the way she wants it, use her language code for homeworks (it will take you some time to read all the requirements) or you will lose points.
Just follow her study guide and information packet to score an "A".There are no trick questions on the exam. She pretty much follows word to word from her study guide.I don't think you'll regret taking this class.
She was a fair and passionate teacher. She really cared that we learn things about nutrition that we could use in our everyday lives. Her tests were some of the best tests I have had yet at De Anza, fair and more about learning(what all tests should be about). She is a great teacher!!
Anna is such a great teacher! She's really passionate about nutrition. Make sure you attend class and are on time. DO NOT leave early. She'll catch you. If your cell phone goes off in class you get to bring in a healthy snack!
By fat the best theacher in DeAna. Took a summer course, very helpful and interesting class.
I was expecting something else, like, let's say, a Nutrition class. Instead I was treated to sermons: If I open the door to strangers I'll be violated; I should admire her parents and her relationship. I sat through this each morning and called it "Nutrition." She also refused to clarify the actual assignments or content relevant to our final.
I've heard that she is so hard and that is simply not true! I was the first one done with the final and I just study the questions on the study guide and I make good grades. I also learned alot and think shes a great person. I think everyone should take her for BIO 45!!!
I love her class! She did come off as kind of snobby at the beginning but she knows her materials and very helpful with students, I grew to like her a lot. I've learned so much from here and am still applying everything I've learned in her class with my everyday diet. The tests are not hard at all, study the slides and read the book, you will do ok
Had her along with another prof for this class. Her half of the class is nutrition, fairly basic information, but she knows her stuff and worth a listen. One group project. Do all class assignments you'll be fine. Two tests, 50 questions. Print off the powerpoints to make notes on and read the study exams on her website. Highly recommended.
Anna is SERIOUSLY one of the nicest professors at DA. She made me love nutrition even more! Her lectures are very interesting because she compares Nutrition to real life situations for us to better understand what we are putting into our bodies. Her exams are really easy too, just read her powerpoint slides online and you should do fine! =]
I dont understand why people say her BIO 45 class is super easy. They make it sound like you do not have to do squat to get a good grade. The tests are not extremly hard but they are not easy A's either. I like her, but think she concentrates on a subject for way too long which made us stay a few minutes over every class. She is the only instructor
Her Class is very imformative, however academically her lecture are somewhat disorganised. For example she would talk about a slide, and in the middle of that slide she might tell you a story that relates to the slide..or not. So you have to pay close attention and take good notes. Over all OK teacher.
Talks about her boyfriend way too much. I felt as if I was back in 9th grade again! She tends to be overly critical, but overall fair. Try to stay on her good side.
lectures are straight forward and right to the point plus its ppt printable. quizzes straight from her lectures. she just wants the class to learn and use the information to give your body the treatment and foods it really needs.
I learned more about her boyfriend than I did about the subject.
I loved Anna's class! She's quite the enthusiast when it comes to nutrition and teaching. You can clearly tell that she wants all her students to excel in the course. The material I learned has proven very useful for my everyday life. Exams are fair, lowest exam grade is dropped. Follow instructions closely for diet assignment. Highly recommended!
I dont see why people dislike this class. Her requirements are crystal clear. Theres 3 midterms, 1 final. You do good on the 1st 2 midterms, u have a choice to not take the 3rd one. There's a hw that's worth a midterm. You need to spend time with it, check up with her, and ur good. Finals is open book. Not easy A, but possible if u make it happen!
she talks a lot and likes to keep you till the class ends but she will help you get a good or passing grade in her class!!!doesn't really depend on the book all you need to do is print out her notes.
i hated this teacher. you never learn anything interesting and she picks favorites.her tests are hard and way too much homework for a nutrition class
One of my FAVORITE classes! Not only do you get the grade you deserve, but you really do learn valuable things that can help you outside of the class. She's funny, enthusiastic and helpful. She's considerate and is willing to help! She gives pretty good outlines for exams, even gave us free 3 pts to boost one of our bad test scores! Study hard!
Anna is such an awesome person! Her test are VERY fair and straight out of lecture/notes. I learned so much from her class about nutrition, and life altogether. Despite the things she had to deal with in her personal life, she still came to class every day with a lot passion for the subject and eagerness to teach.
She is SO easy. Attendance is not mandatory at all because she posts up her slides. Class is very boring, but it's an easy A. She's nice, but tends to get off track. Overall, this class (Health & Fitness) is extremely easy and Anna is great.
I paid attention to perhaps 10% of the lecture and studied perhaps 2 hours overall for this entire course and I got an A.
Really nice instructor and wants every student to succeed in her class. By no means is this class an easy A, you will have to work for it but is doable. There are 3 midterms & lowest will be dropped. Final is open book for the most part. Diet project is time consuming so get started early because it is a good portion of your grade.
Miller is actually 1 of the few teachers in De Anza who would ever be interested in your success. There is nothing hard as long as you study and you let your self be interested and care about this class.
I love Professor Miller!! she makes the class be very interesting and also cares about her students!!.. people say it's hard.. but it's not if you dedicate some time... she is AWESOME!
A fine teacher. Has that Mary Macdonnell thing going for her. Passionate, thorough teacher. Very fair and accessible. Wants you to respond in class. Can get an A with some work and studying. Only bad thing is she brought her dog to class which I'm somehow allergic.
Anna is an AWESOME PROFESSOR!! she is so passionate about her class and thoroughly cares about her student's success. She made me want to not miss any of her classes. The class itself can be challenging and time consuming, but it's totally worth it!
I liked the subject of nutrition before I took this class. I really disliked her class. I got an A but I really did not look forward going to her class. Her lectures take the whole 2 hours and sometimes she goes off on her own personal stories. She says her class is a judgement free but I feel intimidated when she shares what her diet is like.
great teacher!easy on grading, always try to help, and always try to guide you to a heathy life style
She really knows her information but can be intimating. Make sure to read her course packet because it makes things clear and also helps guide you along. This class is informative but she likes to soak up EVERY single minute and can be a little boring at times.
Very easy professor. Lectures are clear and tests are very straightforward. If you want to do well on her tests, print out her study guides and read the power points she posts on her website. She gives minimal homework as well.
If you want good grade in this class, don't take her class. I got As and Bs in all my Bios classes but in her class I been struggling to get a B. May be she is good at saying "this is a free zone class", she don't really care about helping her students. One thing I learned from her was that she discriminated between her favorite and not students.
I took her Contemporary Nutrition course. she is a nice lady and means well, but is somewhat opinionated and she somehow finds a way to relate a lot of the day's topics back to herself. she does make it easy to get a good grade if all you do is show up and read the study guides though.
Very nice teacher. Informative and helpful. Study her materials and follow everything she says and you will do well. Ask questions when you're confused. I highly recommend her.
The class is easy if you participate and do average on the weekly quizzes. To get an A, you must do informal 2 minute speeches on nutrition subjects she picked. She gives numerous extra credit opportunities. The only way you fail is by not showing up or failing all the quizzes. She is really passionate for nutrition.
I took her Bio 45 Nutrition online class, She is nice and informative. Their are a weekly forums, midterms, finals. You have to keep up and do all the work to get a good grades. A lot of forum homework, but will help you with your grades. Read a lot for midterms and finals.
Sweet elderly lady that has a deep passion for nutrition! A lot of in class individual and group work. Lots of extra credit opportunities too. Quizzes every week but its all stuff you learn in classreadings.
This course was more challenging than I expected. Focus on her power points. Stay on top of the material (5 pop q's). Do Not put off the diet assignment, and follow her instructions carefully! I like Anna because she does her best to prevent rote learning by having the students apply the material to their own dietlifestyle.
Anna is a great teacher. Even in her online class I learned SO MUCH about nutrition. She makes the topic interesting and makes herself very available for anyone who needs help. The tests aren't too hard as long as you study well beforehand.
You will learn a lot from this class, but be prepared for class and keep on top of assignments. The final project has over 12 pages of directions combined with an exceeding amount of youtube video instruction. READ AND WATCH ALL OF IT. She is very particular, but if you follow instructions and study the power points you will do well.
This teacher is one of the worst at De Anza! Future students who need this course (prob. as a nursing pre-req.) should instead take it at Foothill. She's confusing and contradicts herself in her writings. example: you can electronically turn in your diet assignment... 2 pages later... oh no, you can't?? You'll learn nothing of value.
It makes no sense why she constantly wants to meet the students face to face when you're taking an online class. She gets pushy about wanting to "meet you". I agree with the previous rating. Take this course at Foothill instead of with her. She also grades you on your grammar. But her lectures are full of grammar issues, it will make you mad.
You'll be so dissatisfied taking this class! I don't understand the raters below who think this class is good - not true at all! She thinks you want to know all about her & what she's done. She talks like she's above a doctor or nurse also. She states that her class is "Judgement Free"... you'll get the feeling that she's judging you constantly.
I wished De Anza would have not hired her as a teacher.
very touch grader, she writes like she knows everything.
worst teacher ever at De Anza!
No matter how hard you try to put your critical thinking for the freaking 5 points forum post, your answers will be denied If you earned a 5, youre a genius
I liked the topic of Nutrition before taking this class. This one teacher has managed to ruin that. I'm not sure she is even aware that the way she talks to students is actually disrespectful. She will shock you with how condescending she can be. Really, it's that bad. PLEASE - future students, take this class with a different teacher.
Her class is manageable. She wants to ALWAYS be right. You ask a question or share your opinion and she will shoot you down. I think she feels superior to others because she likes to brag about howealthy her lifestyle is.
There is some truth to the saying; "Those who can't do, teach". This teacher would be fired first from a Registered Dietician job. She should learn how to stop trying to one-up everyone also. I would give zero's if I could. So disappointing!!!
she does not teach any thing, but she she require a lot from students. This is the worst teacher I have ever met so far.
I dropped class, not matter what I submitted on line and tried to re work, she tore it up. Could not get any positive response. Terrible teacher
she is the worst teacher I had ever taken with so far.
what a terrible teacher!
final study guide is a joke!!!!
I've never had a negative experience to the point where I'll write a review. Until now. This professor is the hardest, most difficult, least encouraging, FASTIDIOUS person i ever met. Forum posts, if you don't talk about everything and anything within "5 sentences." you're not gonna get full credit. Study guide? Don't bother. 10% of it is on test.
She offers questions, but once students ask her, all they receive are more confusing questions knowing she is gonna say," I don't want to spoon-feed you, blablabla..., you have to look for it on your own." Long lectures but nothing in there except the questions ask you to read the whole-long expensive books. Waste of time and money.
Impossible to get an A. unless you study 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Half of the class dropped this class. B is doable but still very hard. I congratulate those who can even pull off a B in this class. Drop this professor while you still can.
I've never met a teacher who grades as hard as she does. She's here for her JOB & doesnt put effort in for the students or even care genuinely. DROP any class with her
I know all the tricks you do. Giving all the harsh comments and judges so that students won't bother you anymore? Making easy money with online classes huh? Respects should never be given to her because she never cares about her students.
I wish all of these bad reviews were up before I signed up for her class. I was really looking forward to taking this class and she completely ruined it for me. Horrible teacher. The discussion posts are incredibly time consuming and almost impossible to get the full 5 points. I regret not dropping this class when I had the chance!
She is not a good teacher. You have to read everything: 2 chapters a week, all the forum discussion questions, all the VLs, etc etc. Her study guides have very little to do with her tests, don't bother filling it out. Memorize everything. The material is interesting, but bad teacher. Unless you have no other classes and no job, don't expect an A.
I tried to stick out this class and with these helpful review gave it until the drop deadline. The amount of work involved doesn't add up. The teacher is very unwilling to actually help. Relieved that I dropped her class and got my money back. Good luck if you want to stick out this nonsense class.
The amount of work you need to do for this class is ridiculous. Lots of readings and discussion posts. She said not to judge each other, but her commends on discussions aren't that ideal and somehow seems a little prejudice. I regretted not dropping it before the refund date. Avoid if you can.
Anna overloads her students with information that is not relevant to the class. Her directions are unclear and excessive, so much so that just reading the directions for a forum post will take longer than the actual post. She thinks she is some sort of gatekeeper to Nursing. Unfortunately, after taking her class I lost my interest in nutrition.
This class was the best prerequisite I took for applying to nursing school!!! It totally changed the way I think about my diet. Anna cares about her students, if you're willing to try. Yes, this class was demanding, but if you follow her clear and organized instructions, you can get an A (I did!). She really made nutrition fun and interesting.
Took BIOL45 online Winter '16 - teacher is a hard grader. Forum posts are difficult to get 5/5 points. Exams are difficult - breakdown showed that 16% failed, 27% got C, 37% got B, 20% got A. Final project must be precisely following YouTube videos or points deducted. Not horrible, but lots of work.
Online class. She graded harsh, most I can get on forum was 3/5. Lots of information and reading. Catalyst notes weren't really helpful, still have to read book. Project wasn't too hard if you follow her rules, but still, tough grader!
Honestly, Miller gives alot of work. But she's very understanding, talk to her if your having trouble with something one on one. She grades pretty tough, exams are easy just do the study guide. OVERALL SHE'S A FAIR TEACHER, ACTUALLY DO THE WORK AND ALL OF IT AND USE THE STUDY GUIDE and there is no reason why you shouldn't pass.
I loved her lectures a lot. Unlike other teachers, she explained every things. I don't like teachers who just read power point slides. I had no idea what nutrition was about, but I learnt so much from her class. I don't think it is too hard to get an A in her class. I found that her packages are useful, and her guidances are clear.
Test questions were nebulous and often had multiple interpretations. Even when you study hard and know the material, you will come across test questions that have multiple answers or you're not sure what she's asking. And asking her about the test question during the exam is useless. She basically just repeats the question. Tests were frustrating.
I wish you could avoid her like the plague, but only instructor for nutrition. Very long winded and tends to ramble. Very particular about grading, watch out for her true false test questions. A nice passionate person but real pain as an instructor. I did more work for a B in this class than an A in microbiology, that should tell you something.
Put in the time, you'll do great and learn a lot. Stuff that not only will help with your career but will help you make healthier food choices. Professor Miller truly cares. I can't believe she gives up some of her Sunday afternoons to meet students in class for a study guide review prior to exams. I've never had a teacher do that!
She's a decent professor, definitely cares about her students. What I didn't like was being docked points because of issues with the online system. It seemed that there were other students who had similar issues, but there was no leniency. If something went wrong? She assumed it was the student. It is a practical life learning course though.
Prof Miller is a good teacher but she tends to run out of time because she goes on tangent about other things. Her exams are challenging but are doable. This is a HEAVILY-SCIENCE BASED class with stuff from biochem and o-chem. Be responsible. Study the lecture slides. but I hate the diet assignment. dont get the book. study off slides and lecture.
I took online class with her. She cares alot for her online students. Before every exams she manages review class for all online and face to face student which is very helpful to get clarification on the confusion you had. She even brings snacks for her student during that review class. I will strongly recommend to take class with.
I originally registered for her online class, but decided to take her class in person and it was the best decision ever. She is very passionate about nutrition and helping her students learn how to think critically about what is going in their bodies. Super interesting lectures, but get ready to read to really understand the material.
Took this class during a condensed summer course. It was a LOT of work, but I learned much about the science of nutrition. This is a course that's valuable in real life. Hard class, but there was none of the ambiguity that I have had with others. Requirements and assignments are clear, study guides available, etc. In general, I have no complaints.
This professor states at the beginning of the quarter that the class is a no judgement zone. But the way she speaks to students she is very condescending. She will get upset if you dont print out the lecture slides and use them during class instead of writing the slides down yourself. Be prepared for 30 min tangents.
Passionate professor, cares that her students succeed, seems like a motivational speaker at times. Course is hybrid: quizzes/PPT/handouts on Canvas. Brought homemade snacks to class several times. No EC, grading straight forward, tests T/F and multiple choice. Diet assign: lots of vids/instructions (really too much), large part of grade
If you have kids and job all while going to school, dont take this class. I took her online class and she literally said in her post "If you work full time, have a family to take care of, are taking other classes, get a reality check: you CANT do it all, at least not well. set your priorities" who the hell says that? kids & a job arent priorities??
the quote below is word-for-word what the professor said. VERY NEGATIVE. not willing to help or accommodate AT ALL. makes things WAY harder than they need to be. writes WAY too much, too much to read for directions, big waste of time! way too anal and specific on details of food record. spend more time reading directions than doing the actual task.
Took her online course, theres weekly reading and discussions. Tests are multiple choice, tests and quizzes on text readings and online ppt. Actually need to put aside time for this class if you want a solid grade since its easy to forget about the weekly discussion or a quiz. should only take if you know your workload for other classes is v light
I recommend that you have to take this class by itself or else your GPA is going to suffer. Her midterms questions are from Virtual lecture, book readings, and homework. She gives too many information that are not related to the subject and she grade pretty tough.
Took an online class with this professor, pretty sure she was the only option unfortunately. Her grading system for a major project we did was absolutely awful considering the project is worth about 25% of the grade. Completing the assignment 100% and following directions is not enough to get a descent score on the assignment.
she is a kind professorbut homework is too much. Her assignments have a lot of detail and mess. I confused why she dont use simple and consequences to do these assignments.
Her directions are wayyy too long, longer than it has to be. So much details into the Diet Assignment, grades it very hard, tests are mix of T/F, multiple choice, studied from book and online lecs, in her lecs, she basically says to read the book. Grade comes from very few things, exams, diet assin, quizzes, participation. Very little wiggle room.
Graded on a few large assignments 300 points from tests and 100 points from diet assignment. Online lecture ppts are redundant. Tests are overly specific. Grading criteria for main assignment is not clear and seems based on what she feels you deserve.
TAKE HER CLASS! Obviously this class isnt going to be easy. Like come on guys ALL the AP classes are a prerequisite. Professor Anna is very passionate about nutrition, which makes the class more enjoyable! Her tests are hard, they make you think critically and you must use bio40c knowledge! DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THE DIET ASSIGNMENT!!!!!!!!!!
Her class was not difficulty she just expected way too much for an online class. She was very hard on grading. I participated in all of the class discussions and respond to others and still didn't get full points. Her directions on many things weren't clear she had to much fluff. Just tell us what you want I don't need to know a back story.
Anna Miller is great! She over-communicates instructions which helps keep you on track and gives you a very clear idea of her expectations. She is inspiring and challenging when it comes to how we view nutrition. The virtual lectures are well organized and her study guides help out immensely with test taking.
I really loved taking Bio45 with Anna Miller. She is really kind and wants her students to pass. I was scared to take this class during the summer but it really was not bad at all. She drops your lowest quiz/exam. Just stay on top of the reading and the work and you will do fine! Her tests are very straight forward and not hard at all.
Great class, a very fair and caring instructor. She always responds to emails right away and offered help when I needed it.
Enjoyed this course. Material is relevant to your day-to-day food choices. Lectures are informative and easy to follow. Diet assignment is time consuming. Whatever is your most generous time estimate for DA -- double that time. Seriously. Prof is super helpful. Had an emergency trip for 2 wks, she helped to stay on track. Very nice in person.
Prof Miller is so nice and super easy to talk to. She genuinely wants to help which I think is amazing. BUT I will say that her instructions on assignments are so crazy specific. If you don't follow everything exactly (even the smallest things like how to head your assignment) she will take off points. It can get a little overwhelming.
She has good intentions, I'll give her that. But the amount of writing she writes for her instructions are just way too much for an assignment. The assignment is split into 3 parts and there is a crazy amount of instructions to read and follow and if you don't read and do everything carefully, she will dock off points. She's asking for too much.
Don't take her if you can, horrible teacher. I am not cappin when I say that there are 5 - 10 announcements per assignment she puts up, additional with 2 - 5 pages full pages of instruction. Absolutely ridiculous for a 4 unit class. She also mentions how you shouldn't take microbio while taking this class probably bc her inferiority complex.
Too much information to the point that its cluttered and unclear. If you can sit at the computer screen for 2 hour straight reading all her instructions, then start the project, go ahead. She sends too many unnecessary emails. This class's work is as much as a 6 unit class. Avoid if possible, or take at foothill. Don't take with another class.
Class is alright, don't take with another class that will require a lot of time put into it. I recommend you take bio45 alone. A lot of emails + instructions to the point that they are overwhelming, cluttered, and unhelpful. This class feels like a 6 unit class. It will stress you out. Prof is available, up to you to contact. I would not retake.
DO NOT TAKE BIO45 with Miller!! This class is 4 units but she makes it seem like its 5+. This was even harder and more time consuming than A&P!! Her lectures are so lengthy and wordy. She expects you to know stuff that youve learned before and skips over it in her lectures or tells you to read the book. Project instructions are crazy long.
Her final is ridiculous. It is open notes but its too much info to take in + questions were way too specific. Its like she makes it hard on purpose when she claims she doesnt. This prof is extra for no reason. A class like this shouldnt be this hard or confusing. 3 Midterms + 4 quizzes + 1 final + 1 project. Save yourself and dont take her.
Get ready to read a lot and hone your critical thinking skills. Anna is a great professor, she is very attentive, helpful and reachable. A lot of people who failed or do poorly in the class usually taking it thinking that it should be easier than other pre-req class and would put minimal effort until the first exam result comes out. I know I did.
absolutely unprofessional, replies past the deadline had to send multiple emails and the reply i got finally was "the deadline has passed". WOULDN'T HAD PASSED IF YOU REPLIED ON TIME !
I took Professor Miller for a general education class (Nutrition) and currently have an A. There was no need to purchase any textbook and all course content is made through a brochure-ish type of PowerPoint. You will have a lot of opportunities for extra credit so you can definitely guarantee an A by the end of finals. TLDR; Good choice, easy A.
Anna is going to tell, throughout the course, for you to read and know the book. She means it. She is very keen on attention to detail, and puts ALOT of detail into her instruction - if you follow the instructions and information she puts forth - you should do well. Her grading system is GENEROUS, and should practically GUARANTEE you PASS.
This class is to weed people out for the nursing program. I felt like i was taking a masters nutrition course. We would do these diet assignments to be a 'healthier us'.....but we were given so much work that there is no time to exercise. Its funny how we are taking a class on how to be healthy but we are sitting on out butt all quarter. Too much.
Video lectures=PowerPoints of 30+ slides of reading. Pay attention to detail! DONT rely on the study guides as they're more definition based, while exams go in depth from what's read in the book. Feel like throughout the course she makes you jump through hoops for info which is just extra. Project isn't hard just time consuming with a lot of steps
Trust me when I say I wish 0 can be a rate. She is very passionate about this subject and in that manner creates this learning environment very stressful. This is a horrible class that you have to teach YOURSELF. If this is what you want in a college class take it!! I don't recommend this class at all.
Forgot to submit this review back in 2022 January winter. Avoid at all cost, save your time! during her exams, she will make you log on zoom in different small groups to watch you, basically proctor lol, way to much stress and unorganized. trust me and the other reviews.
I took this class in the summer which meant a lot of work in a short amount of time. Here's the rundown: the quizzes are easy, LOTS of reading weekly(rely on the slides/video lectures more than the textbook), and you can use 1 note card for every exam(front&back). Study guides help. Also, make time for the final project, don't push it till the end.
WAY too much everything.Too much work, suggested videos, suggested quizzes (not graded but you still need to do them) handouts, too much INFO. Canvas course outline is messy and wordy. "Helpful" links are WAY too detailed. Her expectations are unreasonable and demanding if you are taking other courses at the same time. Wish I chose another teacher
Beautiful slides, engaging lectures and lots of fun optional stuff like recipes and optional worksheets. She clearly loves teaching this class and replies to both emails, canvas messages and discussion board questions incredibly fast. Seems like the sort of older professor who only grew to love teaching more with time. 10/10 nutrition course
Everyone who gave her a bad rating is 100% correct. All I can say is good luck!
5 exams lowest dropped 45 questions in 40 mins. Lectures dont cover everything & lot of required reading. You're better off using the study guide and teaching yourself instead of reading/watching everything she provides. The project takes time and has specific instructions not following them exactly can dock off points. Wish there was another proff
Her Canvas is disorganized, have to teach yourself in the way that she wants. No she will not elaborate. The recorded lectures are worthless, better to alternate between the textbook and PowerPoint. She checks how much time you spend looking at her lectures and tell you you need to spend more time. Proctored tests.Don't procrastinate Diet project.
Anna is a great professor who is very engaging and helpful. She does a great job of staying involved and sending personal emails to make sure you are staying on top of your work. Her grading system is very straightforward. She assigns tests for each lecture but it is open notes so the tests are fairly simple if you make a good study guide.
Anna sends A LOT of announcements weekly and the diet assignment has extensive instructions that make the course appear daunting. The class is interesting if you have the time to dedicate a few hours daily to read everything posted on canvas. 5 tests are easy if you do the study guides (based on her virtual lectures) and utilize a cheat sheet.
Professor Anna's class is intense, but manageable if you put in the work. The lectures and assignments cover a lot, so staying organized and using resources like the textbook and Unstuckstudy are key to success. Overall, a challenging but rewarding course.
Her class was very informational and taught a lot about nutrition. There are 5 exams (usually covers 2 chapters each with a notecard) she drops the lowest one. Do the assigned reading, follow her instructions and you will be fine. Grade is entirely exams and one large assignment. Extra credit opportunities and fastest grader I've ever had.
Very good professor, textbook is freely given, cheat sheets are allowed for exams, lowest exam score is dropped, there is a diet project which is long but doable, there are 2 extra credit opportunities, and it may seem hard or a lot to read, but as long as you follow the instructions it's an easy A.
Her class is incredibly disorganized and all over the place. She's one of those professors that thinks her pre requisite class is more important and hefty than your lab science classes. Her instructions are unclear and messy. You'll spend more time reading the instructions than actually doing the assignment.
Such a bad professor. Disorganized and has a lot of unnecessary documents on her modules.
She thinks this class is hard, it's not. I've never met a more disorganized, passive aggressive, stuck up professor in my entire life. She sends tons of emails to you, you'll beg for a mute button. She talks to you like a kid, makes assumptions about you, just very unprofessional. Her favorite thing is to overcomplicate everything in the class.
Prof Miller is nice, likes to send constant announcements to engage students which are mostly reminders of assignment due dates. 1-2 tests a week, no final, 2 part project (instructions must be met point by point for good grade), +10 pts extra credit, 2 discussion posts.
Don't waste your time with this old fart, so disorganized, messy, chaotic, everywhere. I have never seen a more chaotic canvas page. and if its your only option, and or too late to drop buckle the f up, it going to be a long ride!
I wish I could tell you to choose someone else but there are no other option for this specific pre-req. she is a mess! All the reviews-true! I disagree with her statement “I'm here to help you” - she is not helpful. Her help is telling you, “I know it's frustrating and there are a lot of rules but just read carefully” - the class is a mess.
She is passionate and professional. The content/lecture/reading/assignment are all very good!! she helps you a lot on knowledge. BUT, her way of communication and the repeated message stressed me out (her announcements are unnecessarily loooog)....that's my only complain... if you're passionate in nutrients, I recommend Anna.
Easy A prof. Readings were an overview of macros, minerals, and diseases from A/P courses, so it wasn't a surprise. Diet assignment is lengthy, but doable, and just ask for help if you have any Qs. Offers xtra credit, which helped boost my grade. 3 discussion posts. No complaints except tons of announcements. Thumbs up!
THIS WAS THE WORST CLASS OF MY COLLEGE CAREER. A HUGE WASTE OF TIME AND A HORRIBLE TEACHER. SHE TREATS STUDENTS LIKE CHILDREN. THERE IS NO TRANSPARENCY IN GRADING. A CONSTANT WATERFALL OF INSTRUCTIONS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS AND DISJOINTED SOURCES OF INFO DOMINATE THE CLASS. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS..
DO NOT TAKE HER—unless you're ready to read tons of unclear, conflicting instructions. She's strict with grading, some quizzes didn't make sense (got a 0 with no explanation), and you will struggle. I highly recommend taking nutrition with someone else, somewhere else. Trust!!!
Professor Miller makes this class unnecessarily difficult. She assigns “practice quizzes” and worksheets that don't count toward your grade. She also sends an overwhelming number of announcements daily. Her instructions for the diet assignment are confusing and overly complicated. Take this class with a different instructor!
Professor Miller is passionate about what she teaches. She provides a lot of information because she wants you to do well. There are no surprises as long as you thoroughly read her announcements and instructions for the assignments. You will learn a lot in this class, highly recommend!
