Currently taking her for the Fall 2014 semester. 3 exams, HW, and a book report are what make up grade. Don't be intimidated by book report, very simple assignment and plus you learn a lot. Her lectures are insightful but monotone. HW is mandatory because she randomly collects but they DEFINITELY prepare for the exams. Overall great teacher.
She is great. I really wish more teachers were like her. She is very straight and to the point; just do what is asked of you and you will do fine. She's pretty easy on the eyes, too!
Terrible. Does not teach only reads power monotone points makes it boring and then gives tough exams. You won't learn anything and forget good grades.
Lectures are clear and she is good. Just go to class, take notes on lectures and ask questions. You need to read the book and her lectures to do well in class.
Online quizzes and home work together worth 25% of grade so do it. 3 Exams and they are really inline with the homework and quizzes. However she doesn't have any videos or anything to teach she expects us to use the homework to learn the material. It's a self teach course or from the E-tutors. Get the solutions manual it will help save you.
This "professor" had ZERO interaction with the course. Emails were not encouraging nor helpful and did not care to assist. I would not take a course like this online. You will have to teach yourself the material 90% of the time with no interaction or assistance from anyone but the textbook. DO NOT take.
Prof was good, just need to do what is asked. you got multiple attempts at HW and quizzes so it was overall easy and I learned a lot.
She was good but demanding. She sent weekly emails with objectives for the week and what should be done. as long as you follow what she says and submit all assignments you learn a lot. she also curves. would definitely take this prof again.
Homework is easy unlimited tries. Quizzes 3 tries. Tests are not bad at all. She is very fair with her class. I suck at math and ended up with a 96. I would 100% take her again if she had more math classes. Best Finance teacher. Follow her PP and the connect is what shows you everything.
Google taught me, the class is not hard at all.
good prof. answers questions and straight to the point. would take her again
This professor teaches in a very monotone voice. She has no enthusiasm or energy in teaching the class and shes not a very good teacher! Shes very nice, kind and helpful but honestly she can't teach. Just reads of the powerpoints & it sucks theres no other option for classes like these. Overall, 2 tests and 1 cumulative final and a 15% project.
Class is tough but if you go to lectures, do your HW and read you do well. I wish more teachers were this good.
Brief and to the point. Class always ran short (thank god). Easy on the eyes. Clearly explains concepts (albeit, she's monotone). The exams as no joke. She did allow a 1 page cheat sheet, though. If you want to succeed: practice ALL assigned end of chapter questions and review your online HW assignments. She curved SLIGHTLY on all tests, too.
She is good Professor. This course is difficult there is a lot of math. This course is hard. Pay attention and ask her questions. Professor Pomerantes is a good Professor. She has a lot of real world experience. She also is hot.
Class always short. Easy homework. Allows cheat sheets on exams. Curved our final 20%. She is the best. Just show up, listen, and pass. Down side is she is monotone.
She is a decent instructor; however, she is very monotone. That does not take away the fact that the class is interesting. She allowed a one side page of notes for the final, but she only curved my class on the second exam. Study her notes and the Connect HW's thoroughly and you'll get a good grade on the tests. I did so and got an A.
This professor is very straightforward. She will present the material and it is expected that you go home and practice yourself. The tests are very fair and represent exactly what was taught. She lets you use one page of notes on the test
She lays everything out for you no tricks. Notes and HW are exactly like the tests, study and you'll do great.
A bit monotone, but honestly a great professor. Exams are like the HW and she allows one sheet of paper, one side, for the exam.
Dr. Pomerants is one of best professors at FAU. A real gem She makes learning fun Take her class you will not regret it
The course was literally 12 HW assignments (super easy) and 3 tests (including the final). Use the HW assignments to study for the exams. The test covered 4 chapters each. She lets you use a one sided, hand written cheat sheet for the exams.
Lectures were boring and non mandatory but still it is best to show up because she would explain later if it would be on the exam or not. Allows one sheet of paper for notes and functions for the exam which is very helpful. Practice on the homework also a week before the exam she opens study questions which are very alike to the exam.
Awful professor. The test has no relation to any of the notes or homework. I couldn't believe how distant the material was. She does a terrible job teaching and is perhaps the most unfriendly, unhelpful professor I've had at FAU. She totally ignored and disregarded my email asking for help towards the end of the semester. Take any other professor
Prof Pomeranets may seem boring and monotone, but if you ask her questions she will actually open up and become more interesting. She cares about her students and you can tell she's very passionate about finance. Lectures are straightforward. Homework is similar to tests. Go to class and practice and you'll get an A. Tests are very fair, no tricks!
Awesome professor!!! The lectures may not be as exciting but overall listen to lectures read the books she gives for class and do discussions and tests. Overall amazing professor would take her again for this class!!! Easy A if read material.
She is one of the best finance professors I have gotten so far!! Dont listen to those reviews, she goes into the chapters every lecture and she tells you whats going to be on the test. You have on page of notes each test and some questions from the homework are on the test. So do the homework!!
Worst teacher I have ever taken. She doesnt teach the material at all. She reads the slides that the book manufacturer makes word for word without explaining the formulas or how to solve problems. Students taught each other on the discussion board. She didnt respond to emails, and there was way too much work (7 chapters per exam) due in 3 weeks.
I found her OK. She definitely went way to fast with notes, I couldn't see half the time. She sends you the notes but when I would look them over for the homework I had a million questions I wish I asked in class. The homework would take me at least 2 hours because I would have to look up online how to do everything & still had issues answering
She goes fast but is very easy to follow and understand. She breaks down complex chapters and explains its clearly. IT helps she prof P is attractive
The class is difficult by nature, but she does her best to explain things. She explains it step by step so you can know exactly where everything comes from. Gives study guides for test half definition half problem solving tells no tricks tells you what to problems to expect on exam. Lets you use one sheet of paper as cheat sheet...
she lectures the entire class, which is fine because a three hour class ends quicker. she writes lecture notes and then sends them to everyone on blackboard. the hw is easy online, three exams. she curved one. one sided cheat sheet for each exam. super nice, right to the point. take her, you're welcome.
Shes OKAY. I think she is under the impression that all her students are finance or accounting majors, so she teaches as if we should already know this scruff thats the only down side. I am an healthcare major so It was harder for me but She gives reviews for exams so youll be okay . Only 2 exams and final and weekly homework.
I wish she taught more finance classes. She explains everything clearly and makes the class easy. Each test, she tells you what to study for and allows a one page hand written note sheet you can use during the test. Weekly hw, but very easy. Attendance is mandatory, but you'll enjoy this class and she never uses the entire time. Take her, trust me.
Avoid the class if you are going for good grades. 80 percent of the grade is based off of two papers that are graded extremely difficultly. The lectures do not give you nearly enough information to do well on these papers and she is very monotone in the lectures, making it very hard to pay attention.
Worst class I have ever taken in my life. The test are nothing like the notes. She doesnt even go over half the material and puts it on the test. She never answers emails they are always sent to the TA. I would never ever ever ever take this class!! Run far away from this professor. I hate this class!
Would highly recommend for anyone to avoid this teacher at all costs. Vague lectures with little to do with very heavily weighted test are not a good combination. My class consisted of 4 grades and homework was a .25 weight in the class so once you get 100% theres no other opportunities to improve your grade. Avoid At all cost!
I liked Dr. Pomeranets. Her lectures were long and a little boring at times but I learned a lot from this class. I thought her test reviews were good. Everything she reviewed and I studied came out on the exam so I am not sure how some people claim different. Just watch out on grading, HW is 25% and Tests are 75% so your grades are your test scores
Listen the material she teaches is not that hard in general, but the way she teaches makes it hard. Overall, if you take her get ready for no extra credit, slow speaking making lecture longer than then needEd to be, random pauses of silence, and doesnt explain things fully. I would tale someone else but if you get her its not the end of theworld
I was 2 points away from getting an A. I studied day and night and felt that I understood the material, but that didn't change the fact that her exams are terribly written. she gives you a "review" and the way she words things in the lecture is nothing like on the exam. You need to read the book and watch her lectures. make sure to practice the hw.
You will really have to work hard to get a good grade. I took it over the summer so it was very fast-paced. 3 tests (each worth 25%) and HW assignments (worth 25%) so there isn't much room to mess up. But just do a lot of practice problems and really understand the topics and you'll do great.
class was easy but you'll have to teach yourself
Honestly take any other professor unless you have no choice. She's not clear on what to expect on the test. There's 3 exams all worth 25 and homework which is 25. Sometimes the hw problems aren't even on the exam. Re-watch the exam reviews a few times and learn the questions/topics. Do the end of chapter questions from the book. Lot's of studying!
Took this course during summer it was a short term so everything was fast phase. Professor went over the material in a business tone no personality. Made lecture videos hard to watch or stay focused. The best part of this course is that it was not homework heavy some homework was due but it was not overwhelming.
Be prepared to teach yourself. You will need some other type of tool, like Chegg, to teach yourself the concepts, otherwise, you will be lost. No opportunity for extra credit. Like trying to learn from a robot.
FAIR PROFESSOR, WITH HOMEWORK ON A WEEKLY BASIS, THIS HELPS AND PREPARES YOU FOR THE EXAMS. THERE WERE 3 EXAMS.
Fai professor, the course is full of challenging work. Try using online sources like Quizlet or the hints on the homework. Very understanding and fair.
when you think you are learning the material wait till she gives you the test and it's nothing like what she teaching or what's on the hw. she did let us have a cheat cheat. I wouldn't take her again ever!!!!
This class is not an open notes/open book class like all the other difficult classes at COB. She lets you use the front of a page for the exam but all your formulas won't fit in it. Exams are very confusing. Not like the HW or class. She's not great at teaching either. Probably your best choice though. It's doable. Buy the fin calculator asap.
One bad grade on the exam drops you down two letter grade which is strange because everything weighted equally. Not too helpful as well.
She makes passing financial management doable. There is not a lot of homework so you have plenty of time to study for exams and focus on your other class. Do the readings and practice the math and you'll be okay. But definitely do the reading.
Three very hard proctored tests that are 75% of the grade. This class is set up to fail students so FAU can rack up easy money.
I took her finance online class. She recorded all of her in person lectures and if you are anything like me, you need to see math problems worked out by the teacher; I cannot learn math by reading the text. I literally passed this class with a solid B by only watching her lectures. After lectures, briefly read the text. HW &3 exams non-cumulative.
Her lectures were really helpful in helping me learn the concepts that were on the homework and on the test. As long as you do the homework and watch her lectures, this class is really easy. Overall I would recommend her as a professor for this course.
The class consists of tests and weekly homework assignments on connect. The homework has unlimited attempts. Tests are weighted heavily so if you fail a test don't expect the homework assignments to save your grade. She gives exam reviews which is good. As long as you study and practice the problems you should be in great shape to get an A.
Really nice teacher, im a senior and I had the hardest semester of my college years so far and she was very understanding of that and helped me out a lot. Class itself isnt too bad just if u miss any deadlines for exams u wont pass. Really nice/understanding professor overall though and cares about her students
Lectures, though sometimes complicated, provided great insight on how to use the calculator and what points to focus on on the test. This was my 2nd time taking this class and it did consume many of my days. If you watch the lectures, take notes and review the homeworks assigned through connect in study mode you should pass, she needs to see effort
As long as you do the home work and do ok on tests you should be able to pass.
You will need to buy Mcgraw hill connect and pay a proctorio fee (idek why), her lectures weren't really relevant to the HW and tests so your gonna have study on ur own alot and each exam counts for 25% of ur total grade and you also don't get to see ur grade till a few days after the exam is taken. This professor should only be a last resort.
Her examples in lecture were too simple but the test required much harder work. She is pretty lazy and teaches all over the place but expects us to do great. she considered a C average on exams great! She also gave us 2 days to learn a chapter and take an exam on. Pick somebody else.
Professor Pomeranets is an ok professor but definitely not the best. The course I took was offered in a 6 week period which was a mistake especially with the teaching style she enforced (none!) It was a very disorganized class designed for the students to fail honestly. TA and professor would change things at a moments notice with no regard for us.
Overall a really nice professor who taught a 12 weeks course in 6 weeks. Homework and test questions were very difficult compared to the simple examples shown in class. Final exam today and we just started a chapter 2 days ago. If you choose this professor or even this class make sure not to take it over 6 weeks as you will get lost and do poor.
Honestly take anybody else, she's dry and cold, the mean for out test is 70-75,and she says "great job".Her and the TA are no help and give attitude when answering emails. She's all over the place, tests are different from the reviews.Oh and she doesn't release the grades until 2-3 days after cause she checks them and removes points for "ANY cheating"
Im taking 4 six week classes, and other professors managed to space it out better, shes just a mess.Uses proctorio and doesnt give you a grade until 2 days after the exam, thats ridiculous. She had to shift the passing grade from 74 to 70 because a lot of the people are failing.FAU needs better professors, shes not one of them.If you fail a test U fail.
Professor Pomeranets was a good professor, if you like Finance you should get a high B or A in the class. I worked 50 + hrs a week and took this class (6 weeks). As long as you do the HW, and understand the HW you should be more then fine on the test. She's no nonsense (she has every right to be), the HW is very similar to the tests, so no excuses.
Professor Pomeranets is a straight forward teacher. She is clear concise and brings together a lot of information that was learned in the lower level classes. As a Business major, I feel strongly that I will use what I have learned in this class in my career. Prof. responds to emails quickly and cares about the students success. Be ready to work.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and happy to help. Get ready to work and learn.
Great professor. Best prof at FAU!
Follow her lectures and ask questions. Very approachable and caring professor
Not going to lie; this class is difficult, the material is tough, and the formulas can get crazy. However, Professor Pomeranets gave great lectures, and I found that watching her lectures while I did the homework made it easier. She does not allow you to use Excel, so you must learn the financial calculator.
follow the lectures and make sure to do all the hw it helps with overall grade. 3 exams in total that are proctored. you can use one sided hand written sheet of notes to use on the exams. study review material for exams, it helps. id recommend this professor !
For the people that have failed her class.. theyre lazy. This class is very passable. She's no nonsense. As long as ur on top of everything by watching her lectures and homework you'll do well on the exams (worth big CHUNK of your grade.) I do have to say ur going to have to teach yourself because the lectures are not as complex as the hw or exam.
The course is hard and you have to work hard. Professor is nice, caring and wants to help. She is definitely no BS.
This professor makes this class stressful considering the exams are weighted heavily. You fail one exam and you'll most likely fail or pass the class SLIGHTLY. Take someone else who won't lower your GPA considering its a core class. Life isn't that serious and this class disrupts my peace :(
Rlly tough to thrive in this class because you need to teach yourself on the side and who has the time for that (I work full time) when being taught in class should be enough. The professor is okay, shes very dry and strict. It would be nice if she were more enthusiastic cause everyone dreads this course. I fear everyday I won't pass.
this class is dreadful.... the smartbooks are useless. So much busy work and the lectures don't match to what will be on the exam.
The class is hard but good professor. She cares and is ready to help. She is to the point, direct and knowledgeable. Not bad to look at either
Nice prof, but dull. The class is not easy but it is very cut-and-dry, with lectures, hw and 3 tests. A few test questions can be a little tricky but you're given plenty of time to prepare and enough problems to study from. You're allowed a 1-sided formula/notes sheet. If you put in the effort you will pass.
She gets negative truthful posts taken down posted by her students because I have checked to see and they have been removed and then immediately after a good rating (unrealistic for it to sound like a student) is posted to over compensate... her and her TA's are cold. Avoid her and take someone else. This is an unnecessary stressor
AVOID AVOID AVOID. Everyone says to do so for a reason. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else.
Lots of work but very manageable. she will not give any extensions but gives ample time to complete the assignments.
Important to take notes and rewatch lectures. Make sure to do homework before its due as it takes a while. Also - make sure you take a look at the exam reviews and use that information on your notes as she allows a sheet of notes during exam.
Tells you what to do and how to study. Approachable and nice. Definitely rewatch lectures and study.
Get ready to do McGraw-Hill smartbook assignments with over 100 connects that take up to 4 hours.
Professor Pomeranets is one of the best professors i've had at FAU. This class is difficult but very learnable if you watch/attend her lectures. The exams are very similar to the homework, and she really does give you all the tools you need to succeed. All assignments are worth 20% including exams. I would totally recommend.
You will be graded mostly by the exams. Watch her lectures, do your cheat sheet for your exam, and prepare. You will mostly teach yourself in the class. But you can pass with an A! It just requires some work, like any finance course. Exams were conducted in lockdown with the camera; Take her in person if you are afraid to fail this class.
I really enjoyed her class! I love the way she teaches and explains everything. Finance was very basic math and she helped make it easier. great professor!
assigned at least 1, 191 concept smartbook assuming that there are going to be 2 more. run away
Professor Pomeranets makes financial management clear and straightforward. The assignments aren't too complicated, mostly just practicing the math, and she explains concepts well. The only tricky part was learning the new calculator, but overall the course is manageable if you study and practice. Highly recommend for anyone taking FIN3403 online!
Great choice overall, I would take Professor Pomeranets again!
