Anna hicks is a good prof. Very friendly and helpful, however, new on the job, and a little shy. Read the textbook along with her notes, and you will do well!

At first she was really timid teaching a class so big, but as the term progressed she really excelled, overall I thought she was a good teacher.Just make sure you put the work in, if not the tests will be quite hard.

Anna is an EXCELLENT prof! She is really sweet and easy to get along with. I had her for biology 1001, and it was great! Her tests are very fair, she gives you a very good idea what is going to be on them. Overall, I would most definitely recommend her to someone because she is a good prof and a nice person.

Anna was really sweet and she replied back to emails super quick however..her accent makes it easy to start daydreaming out of class, once you lose what shes saying you dont really get it back.

Decent prof. Just reads off slides which are online, so you can skip class if you'd like. Tells you everything you need to know and tests are easy if you study the diagrams. She's a bit shy but very sweet!

Dr. Hicks appears rather timid/shy but is overall a very good prof. She posts all her notes online and does her lectures based on them, so attendance isn't always necessary. She always offers help by inviting you to drop by her office or e-mail. She shows lots of little videos to keep you interested. She has an accent but it is not distracting.

Hicks tries very hard to keep the class interested but the simple fact is that first year biology is just about memorizing different facts. her lectures consist mostly of her reading directly off the slides, making attendance completely optional. She's not a bad prof but she's not sterling either.

Anna pretty much gives you the test questions and her notes could not be better. Do the MasteringBio assignments because that's where the test questions come from! Hot teacher.

All I can really say about Hicks is "Meh." Biology never really was my cup of tea to begin with but the class just seemed so dry. I've been told that this is just because first year biology sucks regardless, but all she does is read off the slides and make futile attempts to force people to go to class. No strong feelings one way or the other.

Loved her as a prof, teaches you exactly what you need to know for the test. All of her notes are online, so attendance is not mandatory, but I found it was useful to go to the lectures, because she does explain things very well.

I really liked her as a prof.She posts all her notes online and also post review questions before every test. She cares about her students and is pretty friendly.Attendance is not mandatory, I used to go maybe once or twice a week just to see where we are with the notes.But she does explain things during lectures so attending is not a waste of time

Anna is an excellent teacher. She tries to keep the course content interesting with everyday examples, questions, videos etc. She is highly approachable and kind, she will go to no ends to help you. It is Biology though, and it really can only be learned from your own study, class should only be used to supplement the content

Great intro teacher, study the notes and you'll get an A. Absolute bombshell.

She's a sweetie. Very approachable and friendly, a bit of a Finnish accent but hers isn't strong enough to be a hindrance to people listening. Will go out of her way to explain difficult concepts to students. Take her class.

She is a nice Prof, and she does try to be helpful. However, her tests were graded far to heavily on multiple choice. For example, 90% of the grade from multiple choice and 10% from long answers, which take more in depth knowledge of the material. Its just completely opposite from all my other profs and really tripped me up.

I love Anna Hicks. Had no previous knowledge of biology before this course, and she makes it really interesting and easy to understand. Very helpful and always tries to make sure everyone understands what she is teaching. Her accent does not make it difficult to understand her. Take her class if you can.

Good prof! Very straight forward slides and tests, the final was very straight forward. Her slides are a little vague, so read the book for the midterms, but the notes are all you need to know for the final! Hicks also uses D2L, which is very convient, and also is a quick marker! Liked this class, and signed up for her class again next semester!

Anna is really sweet and helpful. She has a slight Finnish accent, but is easily understood. She made the course interesting and fun. I enjoyed her enough to take 2 courses with her this term! Excellent professor :)

I had her for BIO 1001/1002 as well. I find she lectures by taking sentences from the book she finds to be interesting and puts them on her power points. Which is fine, but not really clear enough to study her slides. Though they are a nice outline for what to read in the book. Fair marker, Fair tests. Overall good prof.

I personally think she's a great teacher. I haven't had to go to her for help, but from what I've experienced in class she seems to be really sweet. One thing though is that her focus is on biology, specifically neuroscience, so a lot of her exam questions are based on the brain and not so much about the drugs themselves(Psych 2800 = drugs&behav.)

She is a good teacher but there is a language barrier. Often mumbles and don't complete her sentences because she is unsure how to say it. Reads completely off slides to prepare to do a lot of teaching yourself biology. Loved high school biology but can't stay awake in this class.

She is really into what she teaches, easy to follow, checks on understanding. Quizzess during class are helpful, and clicker questions.

Dr. Rissanen is truly amazing! You will not be disappointed having her as a prof. She has a passion for what she teaches and loves questions. I would literally take any course with her, she's that great . I wish all profs were like Dr. Rissanen. There is never a dull moment in class. She is so funny and brightens my worst of days. She's AMAZING!!!!

Very friendly woman. She gets excited about what she's talking about. Offers alot of practice for tests which is awesome. As long as you listen she goes very detailed aout each slide so you write down alot of side notes that are super helpful. As long as you pay attention and study you will pass!

This woman deserves a 55! She is so approachable and is willing to give you any advice about the university. If she cannot answer your questions based on University courses, she will direct you to someone who can help. She NEVER reads off slides and is like a book. She provides you with all the information you need. This woman is AMAGING & FUNNY!!

Very helpful and considerate prof. She has a Finnish accent so there is a language barrier, and sometimes she doesn't understand your question. Her tests are extremely fair, and she provides practice tests and lots of review on D2L. As long as you keep up with your book readings, the only thing you'll have to worry about is the labs! Dr. RIssanen is the absolute best! She never reads off her slides. Before she even brings up the next slide she has already covered the points and elaborated. She wants to see her students succeed and is super sweet. In my imaginary world, she would teach all my courses, thats how amazing she is. She is a true inspiration for me! Love her!

Favourite thing about this prof was how she made the lectures interactive by using a clicker program and by introducing each lecture with a video explaining a key topic. Was very clear and easy to listen too. Midterms were excellent preparation for the final as they mirrored the format. Overall great prof!

I would definitely recommend this prof! She's very easy to listen to and her lectures aren't too bad because she tries to make the dry material somewhat interesting and she also puts the slides in her own words and elaborates in order to explain rather than just reading off the slide.

I've had a chance to meet with Anna various times after taking the course. She is a great professor, and very friendly! she is clear on what she expects and her lectures are bearable. You can tell she is passionate about teaching, and takes pride in her students.

I found her lectures pointless and hard to sit through, but as a professor she is very understanding. I had to defer my final exam and she was very quick to respond to emails and very accommodating with setting up a time to write. The course material is very interesting, but there is a lot. She also gives practice tests and finals which is helpful!

Notes she follows in class are always posted online so it's easy to follow along with her though sometimes she adds slides to her own slideshow that she doesn't post online so make sure to read the book in addition to her notes. Tests and exams are more than fair and should be easy to pass if you follow her notes and the text.

I am taking Bio 1001 with her currently and I don't have any complaints. If you attend class on a regular basis and read up on important figures in the textbook you'll have no trouble. Tests consist of basic biology principles and often have questions she's already answered in class (clicker-questions) so they're pretty easy. Definitely recommend.

She is a really nice person, I'd date her in a heart beat honestly, she reads from the slides but does explain them in a greater detail. It isn't mandatory to attend class but it does help. Her exams are very fair and she prepares you well for the final exam. I would definitely love to have her again.

Dr. Rissanen is a really great professor. Her lectures are brightened by her sense of humour and her love for biology, despite the material being dry. I would suggest taking notes in lectures and reading the book to review.

Covers all course material well in class, though can be a bit boring. If you read the sections ahead of class, you'll be in good shape. Very few assessments .
