Best math teacher I've ever had. I've had a horrible experience with math up until this point, and Anna has been the best. She explains everything with great detail, and makes it really easy to understand. I highly recommend you take her!
Really sweet lady and really lenient. A lot of the people in class barely showed up, but she lets you turn in your hw and labs on the days of the tests if you haven't already. She wants everyone to succeed, and will readily help you with any questions you have.
Please take her.. Se is the best math teacher ever.. Easy to understand..
she explain everything in details and so clear. she cares about her students a lot. highly recommend her.
Mrs. Sohi is an excellent instructor. She is very patient and wants everyone of her students to succeed, if you have a problem with anything, she is willing to make time for you and explain whatever you need to understand. I finally passed Statistics the second time taking this class. Thanks to her I'm continuing my education! You will learn a lot!
She was sorta hard to understand. We did both the online lab and the homework online, which seemed lazy to me because this way she didn't need to physically grade anything. The online homework (WebAssign) was miserable. I wouldn't take the class again solely due to my experience with the online homework. She was a decent teacher though.
She's extremely helpful and her lecture is very clear and organized. She gives lots of practice problems and homework, but that's because she wants you to succeed in class. Study hard for the tests because the problems worth a LOT of points, and you'll do great in her class.
Easy class, I hate math but she made it easy. Tests are easy, participation / attendance mandatory! Just go in, listen and don't fall asleep and you get an A.
Pretty friendly professor, really easy quizzes as well. Just be sure to read and study before tests and you'll get an A.
Really helpful teacher, and also very fair. she explains things very well and wants us to do good! I would definitely take her for another class.
Best math teacher that I have ever had
"Pop Quiz" in the beginning of each class to make sure you're in class on time. Very minimal extra credit-- 1% or so towards your final grade. She always encourages us to go to her office hours if we have any questions and although her lectures are well explained, she's a tough grader and expects students to work hard! Quite a lot of HW on webassig
Best math professor I've ever had. Very helpful and really wants you to succeed. Take her!!
Professor Sohi really wants her students to succeed and will give many ways to earn extra credit. Listen to her and you will do fine. When she gets specific pay attention and do exactly what she asks on the tests. She really takes the time to clarify issues that can arise in the online portion of the class.
She is the best teacher ever always cares about what we have to say. I would definitely want her again
I took Prof. Sohi for a 3 week summer class. 3 and a half hours every day, 5 days a week. And then you have to spend at least 3 hours, if not more, on the homework after class every day. Prof. Sohi really cares about her students and wants them to succeed but this class is overwhelming in the summer, I would not recommend it. Take in fall/ spring
Anna is great. I took her 3 weeks summer course. It was a lot of work but she made is very easy. If you do the homework ( she does gives a lot of homework) and chapter reviews test in the book. You will definitely get A. She also offers extra credit. I would definitely recommend taking face to face class. I have never taken her online course.
Sohi is one of the most helpful teachers I've had. She loves answering questions, has no problem extending needed homeworks, and teaches very clearly. I took the three week long summer trigonometry class and felt like i always knew what was going on and what was to be expected. I worked super hard and I came out with an A. Great teacher
Im not sure what a great math teacher is supposed to be like. I felt like I had to teach myself everything from day one. Her tests are fair. She is not a mean person. Gives out extra credit like candy and offers you as much help as she can. NEVER TAKE A FOUR DAY ONE HOUR A DAY MATH CLASS SCHEDULE. ONE HOUR IS NOT ENOUGH TO LEARN A SECTION OF MATH.
pro: grades fast, give back test, hw, quizes on time gives out a lot of extra credit gives you really hard problems to work with to push you Con: class has a negative competition environment 1/10 when it comes to explaining "why" unclear teaching structure or lack of it no passion
Lots of extra credit, she hosts study groups for exam review and is really nice about questions. Tests are pretty easy if you can do the homework comfortably. Webassign is an absolute nightmare but she curves the homework grades for you. Lectures are for concepts so practice the hard stuff. Make sure your trig is on point, expect a lot of it.
Great teacher, always available for students inside/outside of class. Textbook not entirely needed because she uses webassign and the ebook can be accessed from there. Ask questions if you have them, she encourages it. Wish I could take for Calc 3 with her, fantastic professor and just a great person to talk to.
Calc 2 was not an easy class yet Sohi does an excellent job teaching it. She has clear grading criteria and is always clear of the material on every test. Take her she is the best.
Take Sohi!!! She is a good teacher who really wants everyone to succeed. She is accessible outside of class and encourages questions during lecture. She gives between five and ten percent extra credit for every exam (usually something we don't cover that you teach yourself) and she is pretty generous with points. We used web assign for homework
She gives a lot of online homework. Her lectures are very coherent however too simple and thus the homework becomes very difficult. She moves sections too fast and does not discuss more difficult examples from the section in her lectures that usually pops up in her tests. So many extra credit. Participation takes up 10% of final grade.
Fantastic teacher. Extra credit on every exam. Covers a section a day, but it's very thorough. Hw is slightly harder than her example problems. Gives a practice exam. Spends 1-2 days preparing you for each exam. If you study, its very easy to get over 100% on exams. The final was easier than the exams. If you are good at math, its an easy A.
Great overall professor, took the class online and only had few meetings for exams but within those times, she was a great professor. Extra credit on exams, summer course had two exams, 3 total including final, and two online quizzes. Tons of hw but it is a summer online math course. Take her if you have the opportunity.
I really have no words to describe Ms. Sohi. It was an online class, but the examples provided from WebAssign were not helpful at all. When she posted notes, none of the notes really coincided with the lessons itself, and the notes were posted AFTER the homework was due. There is a TON of homework. Beware of 200 problems the day before midterms!
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED . four exams plus final. homework once a week online. no textbook needed.
Anna Sohi is an excellent professor. One of the best math teachers I have had at DVC. You do need to attend class (just like any math class if you are actually trying to learn the material) She is very forgiving with hw (if you miss a few but you've tried the majority of the semester she will still give you 100%). tests are easy.
By far the best math professor at DVC. She thoroughly explains in her lectures, helps outside of class. If you put in the time and effort she will notice and help. Her test are easy if you study. Must attend class to get participation points. Anyone complaining about the no phone use must not want to learn, your paying them to teach you.
I took her for alg 2 and she was alright. I had her for a 3 hours each class and most of the time spent was working on packets in a group. She went over materials very briefly only showing like 1 or 2 examples and the rest would be on your own. However since i already took this math in highschool I thought it was easy. I barely showed up & passed.
She does online homework. The program sucks!!!! You get a problem wrong and it wont help you. 5x + 4 will just change to 8x + 7. how helpful is that. Her lectures are Ok but not very clear sometimes. She dosen't explain everything like other math teachers do. Overall not great and better options out there.
Really good teacher, She does a good job at making tough concepts easier. She really cares about her students and knows how to utilize the online program very well. She isn't very tough on exams and very understandable. I really enjoy math now.
Excellent teacher, really cares for the students and helps you throughout the course, a few online assignments a week and 4 test plus the final. You really have to attend class everyday if you wanna pass unless your good at math naturally. Gives practice tests which are pretty much like the actual test. Plenty of extra credit available.
Note: Took her online class. She did the absolute bare minimum to run an online course. Published problems to webassign,1-2 problems to turn in on exam days. Posted scans of shoddy notes for chapters, zero explanation. She literally said "You will have to teach yourself". Disrespectful: Brought her kid with her to the final. Clearly riding tenure
Don't take her, especially in summer. She didn't cover many important concepts in the class, you had to learn by yourself. Although the quiz and exam were fair, the homework was hard, 7-8 per week if you take the summer course. In other words, she was caring for the students, and you are welcome to ask questions. Summer has no office hours.
I took online statistics which was a mistake. Don't take this class online if math is hard for you because I had a very difficult time. All homework is on mymathlab and it was very confusing. The option to "help me solve this" only helped sometimes because it didn't show how they would get certain answers.
"You will have to study on your own because I am not teaching you" - She never posted any sort of study guides, any material she made. Leaned into the online homework HARD. She graded the exams, and that's it. So, great if you are going to self-study entirely. I personally would like to have my tuition go towards.... actually being taught.
Sohi Somayeh is a very underrated teacher. During lectures, she makes frequent stops to ensure that everyone understands what is going on. The test are not so hard, but can be some challenging questions, yet if you did the practice homework and the practice tests they are a piece of cake. Thanks to her, Im ready for pre calculus and calculus!
Professor Sohi is amazing! I took pre calc in hs and had to take it again just to refresh my memory, it was review but she also adds a lot more concepts. She encourages her students to take on challenging problems and to not give up. She offers plenty of extra credit and is always there to help. She's the best and wants you to do well!
Great professor! She's an experienced teacher, who explains her lectures clearly. Very accessible outside of class, and gives extra credit. Like any math class, you have to study in order to get an easy A. Would recommend if you want to have a good experience in math. Favorite professor so far!
When she gives advice, listen to it! Ask questions about the lecture, assignments, tests, and really anything that you need. She wants everyone to get a good grade and will help you if you want that A!
Four exams & the final replaces the lowest if you do better on it. All HW was online. Attendance is important. Very kind and is willing to work with you. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. I struggled with this class and got the grade that I did because I didn't put in the effort & got lazy. No way her fault. Just do HW & study for exams. Overall, good prof.
I took Stats with her and I enjoyed her teaching so I took trig with her as well. She is a really nice teacher. You do need to do homework on time and attend her class because she gives participation points. There is always a group quiz before a midterm so that kind of gives you the idea of what will be in the final. Would definietly recommend her.
She is a nice teacher and do know her materials. I got a B because I missed some of her classes. Attendance is mandatory because she gives participation points for each day. We mostly did group work. The class is really easy if you pay attention. She gives group quizzes before a midterm which helps you prepare for the exam.
Prof Sohi is good in her lecture. She teaches very fast and sometimes was hard to follow up. The class was Mon-Thur from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM and Thursday was the exam. Final Exam was cumulative which covers the entire lectures.
She dosent respond to emails for AT LEAST 24 hours. I went to two office hours and both times was distracted by the noise on her end. DONT buy your book on Amazon. I found out too late that you will need a code. If math is hard for you do not take her online course. I felt like YouTube and nettutor got me through. She doesn't give feedback.
4 online Exams plus final, 4 online quizes, ihave to take it during class hrs, she is a very harsh grader, ima say pass this class cause you wont pass it.
Everything is on Pearson, so do NOT buy a textbook. I had to spend $80 on the access code. She doesnt even have lectures. There hw twice a week, 3 quizes, 2 tests, 1 final, 1 project. I got an A because of outside resources iykyk. if you actually want to learn do not take her but if ur like me and need the class then take her.
Worst class I've taken by far. Be prepared to completely teach yourself. Slow to respond to emails and doesn't communicate much about exams and quizzes. Her powerpoints are from the text, so dont bother buying it. Told us a few times on the first day that most of us wouldn't pass. If you're nervous about taking stat, choose a different instructor.
Regular math class.
This class format is 4 online Exams, 4 online quizzes plus Final exam all online+show work on paper, have to take it during class hrs, she is a very harsh grader and takes exams& quizzes very seriously. Worst prof ever in dvc Ive ever had. Ima say skip this class cause you wont pass it if you are not good at math.
Professor is very vague during lectures, assigns classwork every night (20-60 problems) on top of weekly homework. Very heavy grader and confusing.
Super nice and understanding teacher who had pretty good lectures and a well-paced/organized class. Much of the homework was optional and kind of repetitive but overall would take again.
She is the worst instructor I have ever had. She doesn't teach at all and expects you to do great on your quizzes. I worked so hard and ended up getting C which is the lowest grade I have ever got. DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH HER. SHE IS AWFUL!!
Had to teach yourself basically everything. Never responded to emails, and if she did it was weeks later. Would be late to her own office hours, and sometimes would not even get to you. Need a graphing calculator, but does not teach you how to use it or how the functions work.
Very kind and caring professor that wants her students to succeed. I normally struggle with math I learned a ton and did well! She provides lots of outside materials like videos to study with. If I were to be nit picky, sometimes it takes a while for her to respond to email or put things in the gradebook but other than that I have no complaints!
This class was supposed to have lectures every week but the class only meet when there was an exam she was proctoring. The materials were posted per section but it was just the PowerPoint from the textbook and videos from YouTube and the students had to decipher the 50+ slides of PowerPoint there was no direct instruction ever from this professor.
Is very strict and gives out too much homework. Isn't very clear in lectures and just gives out work and PowerPoints. If you're looking for a professor who cares about your grade/success, she is NOT the one. Don't take if you're not ready for independent study, because you'll rely on your peers more than her.
Wildly difficult in terms of when she posts assignments and when she lets you know that she posts assignments. Never uses Canvas. So be ready to pay a hefty price for an alternate application in order to even see your homework. Along with the textbook. She is a great person and is considerate when it comes to giving extensions but has her limits.
This is probably my one of the hardest teachers u can have at a community college. If work a 9-5, I highly recommend to avoid this class. Homework is due everyday. Classwork is speed ran through to where the attention span gets lost in her words, and Test/quizzes cannot be made up unless u have a catastrophic injury. advise to chose another teacher
Thank you so much for making a subject I was worried about disliking, a class that I was exited to show up to . You truly made my semester one of the best.
She is the best. She helped me a lot through everything. Will definitely take her again.
Insanely fast pace and is very strict grader. She honestly just expects youtube to teach you. Teaches too many courses and doesn't really get to know the students or put much time into them. No curves or anything.
I am also taking her class rn and It is true that she is not a good professor like what other students mentioned below but the curriculum must be fast to catch up with all the stuff that should be taught in 3 months. what did you guys expect to summer class be. You guys would get the same grade even if you guys take it over fall. Don't blame her.
Professor Sohi clearly puts her students first. I had issues with submitting a quiz, but she reopened the assignment for me so I could do it. Class material is easy -- for reference, I am a rising hs junior at the moment. First unit was very easy, second unit a little harder but not undoable. Don't buy the textbook, and theres lots of hw.
lots or assignments and lectures to go through, but if you have a 90+ in hw she rounds up to an A, + easy to get an overall A if you just spend some time revising. Little bit of effort goes over long way. Very understanding as well.
She will give a pop quiz with 1 question and 5 minutes to answer it as soon as the class starts, so if you're late it's too bad. She uses canvas only to grade classwork but USES ANOTHER WEBSITE YOU HAVE TO PAY $115 for, just to see the homework and do it and it comes with the textbook. We've had 6 classes so far and I have 5 worksheets already.
An amazing instructor who exemplifies comprehension. Her dedication to student success is evident in the fact that she routinely offers assistance outside of class hours, exhibiting real concern for her student's academic advancement. She maintains a level of strictness, encouraging discipline and providing a favorable learning environment.
This was my second time taking calc 1. The first time I had a different teacher and I dropped out with a failing grade. Calculus is hard but she tries to make it as straightforward as possible. Her lectures are extremely helpful and she's very reasonable in the amount of homework and the difficulty of tests. If you put in the work you will pass.
Professor Sohi was the best MATH teacher I have ever had. I loved her online MATH 182 it is a lot though. Show up to every class because it matters to your grade. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and do them it makes that much of the difference. Do the work and you can easily pass if you study and practice. Very lenient grader.
Professor Sohi is an amazing professor. She acts like she truly cares about each of her students and tries to make each of her lectures as straightforward as possible, given that it is a calculus course. If you attend her all of her classes and consistently study at home, you will pass the class.
Ms.Sohi was no doubt one of the best math teachers I've had, seeing her reviews after taking her class shocked me. She cares for the well being and success of ALL her students and always shows up to class with a great attitude and smile. If you show up, engage, ask questions, and study the concepts at home you will do great in this class.
Professor Sohi was the best math teacher I have ever had. She takes time to go over practice problems and gives so many extra credit opportunities on tests. Show up to every class!!! Homework is very manageable as well.
Not the worst but not the best. She was funny and casual and she was pretty good at explaining things. Nothing crazy or that stands out and she lets you work with people around you so it was easy to work on things during class. Not terrible.
I actually like her lectures, they were organized and every lesson discusses a new sub chapter, her exam 3 was especially hard and i hate that it's a week before the final exam, but fortunately she makes the final exam pretty easy that if you just study well you could get an A. She def also emphasize on having good algebra to succeed better.
Pretty basic summer statistics teacher. Gives you the lecture slideshows (and recorded lectures) online with 3 tests, one every other week. Tests were based on the homework, so nothing surprising or difficult. I would recommend her for a summer course if you're looking for a fairly relaxed class and are willing to put in the work.
Stern and no-nonsense in class, pushing students hard with rigorous lectures and strict deadlines, but she's incredibly approachable if you're struggling. The required textbook is essential, tying directly into the course material for practicing. Overall, a challenging but fair professor who fosters real learning.
Professor Sohi has really unlocked a new side of me. My entire life, I felt that math wasn't cut out for me, and I sucked at it. If you want to pass this class, you're going to have to show up, listen, and pay attention. If you do these things, the outcome will be evident and very rewarding! This made me genuinely love math, and I hated it before.
I always hated math cause I was never good at it, little 5th grade me is healed because I had this prof. She speaks clearly in her lectures with perfect English and always answers questions no matter how silly they are. Want to pass? Show up to every class, do the homework, pay attention! I got C's or worse on my exams(4) and still ended with a B.
I absolutely loved Professor Sohi. She really cares about her students. Exams 1&2 get a one-sided 3x5 index card; Exam 3, you can write on both sides, and for the final exam, you get two index cards that you can write on both sides. Punctuality is a big deal, so try not to be late for class. HW is online, and it's pretty easy. 100% would take again
Always struggled in math but her lectures were always very clear and she goes over every single step in problems. Plenty of practice problems given out. Exams were good, a one sided notecard is allowed. However, exam 3 is very difficult. Average was a 54. Regardless, not difficult to do well in this class if you show up and work hard.
Gave a five to bring up her rating so that people would consider taking her. There are definitely better profs, but you're totally fine with her! Very caring, knowledgeable teacher. Definitely an easy class! But attendance very important, and be CAREFUL of the hm decline; everything is online except for the exams; gives EC on every exam as well
Replaces one lowest exam with the final; quizzes(open book) and hm online, so you have to pay about 50$ to get access, also very strict deadline; the prof is understanding of personal situations tho, gives extension if you ask; exams are easy, as long as you do the hm, online quiz, REVIEW her lecture notes! gives one sided note(two for final)
