really good...had her for lab. i really enjoyed having lab with her
Very helpful with students, but requires a great amount of attention to detail in the reports you have to write.
Poor English skills and expects neatly written and organized lab reports that are written in COMPLETE SENTANCES and are like 10-pages long every week. It's almost impossible to make an "A" on one and she is not very capable of showing her students what she is looking for. Physics majors only...
Good teacher, helps you when you have problems. Got an A in the class. People who rate her poorly due not put in the time to understand SIMPLE physics.
You have to work for your grade, but she's a very nice person who will help you if you ask - NICELY.
I currently have her for lecture and so far do not like her at all. She makes things much more complicated then they should be.
Very responsible and nice teacher. This class does require a lot of work, including hw, lab reports, etc. but if you keep up of these work, you ll be fine. She is very helpful with questions.
very helpful, her material is challenging and the people who get A's deserve them. labs are hard, if you dont have attention to detail then take somthing else
She was extremely helpful but don't expect to skip her classes and still do well. You will get what you desserve. If you put in the extra effort in lab, be articulate and thorough in your reports, and show up on time you will do well. If you are more concerned about drinking beers than doing your work then you might want to go a diff route.
This class is A LOT of work and sometimes her wording in questions and explanation is off and difficult to understand, but she does offer a bunch of extra credit and extra help, if you try you're best you will do fine.
The material in physics 2 is really difficult at times. The homeworks as you know have the tendency to not reflect the stuff discussed in class. Having said that she is the nicest woman alive and if you go to office hours she will do the HW with you. The final was take home which was really nice. People who get As in her class desirve it.
She has a thick accent and her lectures are very hard to follow. However, her tests are based on HW problems. As long as you do her HW you will ace her easy.
Her goal is to get her students to pass the class. We had two take home tests, which were difficult but she encouraged students to work together. Homework every week which really came handy when the tests came. Students with B- or better were exempt from the final.
very nice lady, lets you resubmit your assignments. test and hws are difficult.
I'll say that she's the nicest lady on alive on earth. Her lectures can get boring at times and her homeworks aren more or less based on in class lectures so make sure you pay attention. 2 take home midterms were given and she doesn't really care how you get them done *coughcough* I expected a C but i turned out havin a B. Simply a great professor!
This class is a lot of work. She gives tons of homework. Go get help even if you dont need it. She will give you extra 5 points added to your grade. All tests are takehome... If you get an A you dont have to take the Final...
she is just awesome u can even take ur exam to her office and she ll help u with that (exams are take home) i took physics 103 and 104.. and in both i got A.. she gives extra credit worth 5% of total grade awesomeeeee
she is kind of hard to understand at times, but she will help anyone who wants help. she is very understanding about missing a couple of class. she even lets you resubmit tests and hr assignments for a better grade. the hws get kind of hard at times but as long as you were at lecture they are extremely easy.
Thick accent, but loves teaching the subject. Physics 103 was extremely easy, but the second semester was much harder. Got an A on both tests first semester but failed them second semester. Very approachable, will go out of her way to help, but beware the class gets much more difficult for 104.
Cool teacher, willing to help you out. Just attend class and you would get an A
Need attention!
Moves ridiculously quick.
She is the most unclear teacher I have ever had. She makes everything way more complicated than necessary and the massive amounts of homework (that only count for a tiny portion of your grade) don't help either. She should also probably learn English. She talks down to everyone and is completely unhelpful. Avoid this class at all costs.
Yes, there's a lot of information to learn, but she is soo helpful! She will take time out of her own schedule to meet with you and help you understand EVERYTHING! If you don't understand a single thing, she won't freak out on you, she will nicely re-explain it all. One of the best professors I've ever had!
She has a thick accent that sometimes makes her hard to understand when using similar terms. She also goes really fast and gives large and difficult homework, tests, and labs. I'd recommend doing something else for your gen-ed lab requirement.
It is better to take other class if it is not requiredby your major. you need to put a lot of work in. It just not worth spending so much time for a gen ed class. I was a fool to take physics with lab instead of taking chem with lab. Very very hard class.
She is by far the most understanding and helpful professor I have ever had. The class itself isn't "difficult" but it is alot of work. Labs are very easy and you usually get out hours ahead of time. At the end of the semester she gave the option of doing extra credit projects and we weren't required to take the final. Got 100% with the project.
Class was easy if you paid attention, and did your homework. If not you will be left behind. Detailed lecture notes are posted on b-board if you miss a class and make the book not necessary. Professor was enthusiastic and used examples showing how to solve typical problems. Occasional 1-3 question easy quizzes are given to make sure you attend.
She is extremely friendly and nice when you need help. The class overall isn't all that exciting, but if you pay attention oh so often and do the homework the class isn't bad at all. I took the class in the summer so that makes a difference. There were pop quizzes everyday, so even if attendance isn't mandatory, you kind of have to go anyways.
weekly hw is somewhat difficult, but she is VERY helpful. she even helps you with the take home tests! she pretty much always gives extra credit on labs.
If your a student that wants a teacher that rewards effort take her class!, There are weekly homeworks, she helps you with your labs until its right, See her during office hours if your having any problems and she is more than willing to help! Not the easiest class but she does reward effort!
I can't tell you how helpful she is during office hours. She will stay way beyond what her job calls for to make sure you do well. HW is medium to hard in difficulty, but exams are take home, open book and extra credit is easy to come by. She gives you the tools, you just have to use them! Do not take if you want the EASIEST science credit.
She's really really nice and helpful but her accent can be hard to understand. If you're not good at physics, she will definitely help you out if you're nice to her. Had her twice and really enjoyed her classes. I suck at science but got A's both times.
she grades strictly on correctness not effort. she does allow you to re-write the report to increase your grade. she wants to help you get an A in the class, she just talks a lot especially in the professor. I recommend to people to have someone of an interest in astr. she's not terrible.
Great course! I enjoyed her lectures and labs. She did tend to assign a metric ton of homework every night. Some nights the homework would take 6 hours to complete. Be ready to work and get familiar with excel.
Physics is hard as a subject but if you go to office hours she tells you how to do the homework and if you have a good group in the lab that's a C right there because homework and lab is about 50% right there.
Ania saved my college career. She is a beautiful soul. Thank you Ania!!
Very flexible professor. I've taken CHEM and trust me, this class is much better. Her labs are a piece of cake, just long. Lots of HW, and you should do them bc tests are based off that. You can skip some lectures bc she posts all notes on Blackboard. I had C one week before end of semester, and did extra credit + talked to her and got a final A-
I have never come across a more frustrating professor in my life. Her lectures are so dry and mind-numbing, but are necessary to go to. The tests are beyond ridiculous and incomprehensible that I just gave up all together with this class. Would NOT recommend this professor to ANYONE!!!
Tests are so hard, but she drops the lowest. You can get extra points in the Mastering Astronomy homeworks and by doing the semi-occasional class activity worksheets. So attend class! Those extra points were the main reason I got an A!!
She's a nice teacher and really tries to help her students. Don't be afraid to reach out to her if you're struggling with something. She does assign a lot of homework, but I would take her again.
pretty good professor! Although a lot of homework. She offered a lot of extra credit if you work hard. 3 midterm a optional final (only student who want to improve their grade). I get more than 100%(due to extra credit), and she allowed me to skip both the mid term 3 and final! I will still select phys 104 next semester!
If you take this class then prepare for it to be your life for the semester. I had more homework in this class than in my other four 300-level classes combined. The exams are hard but she gives a lot of extra credit to make up for the intense homework load. Her slides are very disorganized so rely more on google to help you learn the material.
There's a lot of homework every week but that also provides a lot of chances to improve your grade if you don't do well and shes more than glad to give you extensions. You dont really need to go to lectures since she posts them on blackboard but it helps to go.
Anna is always finding ways to help out her students. She provided opportunities to fix errors and poorly done assignments, as long as you show respect and some interest. Very kind-hearted and funny. Her generousness made me wish I put more effort into the class itself at times!
Professor Wyczalkowsi is a good professor. Her accent is a little hard to understand at times but it's never been an issue for me. Lectures begin promptly on time (for the most part) and end promptly on time so they can feel a little long. Tests aren't hard if you do the HW since the tests are just various questions from the HW.
I took this class to fulfill my gen-ed science requirement and it was pretty straightforward. Anna is a very sweet person, her lectures and PowerPoints are full of cute jokes. She provides lots of opportunities for extra credit, but she also assigns homework every night on Blackboard. Tests aren't too bad, as the questions are straight from the HW.
great teacher, just boring classes sometimes. BUY THE TEXTBOOK.
This class was probably the most frustrating experience I've had to date. Assigns a ridiculous amount of learning modules with only 2 attempts per module and her lectures are dry, extremely unorganized, and full of paragraph-length PowerPoint slides she paraphrases and speeds through. I would never take again, stay away from her!
Lectures can feel really long. I have admittedly fallen asleep in her class a couple times, but her lectures aren't that bad. Attendance is not mandatory, but sometimes she will give extra credit to those who attend class. Do the hw, as tests come directly from various HW questions. Often times, you have 2-3 hw lessons you have to do per night.
Hated the material but she made it easy to do well. Gives out extra credit like crazy. A lot of homework which was annoying but also helpful because the homework is weighted the same as all the exams. Exams were basically homework questions. Posts her powerpoints on BB. Helpful if you go to office hours.
Wyczalkowski's class was easy, but there were so many homework quizzes! Her lectures were okay, and she posts all her powerpoints on blackboard, and her tests are almost straight from the homeworks. This class wasn't hard, just a little bit of work.
Extremely unorganized, no organization, so many mistakes within the homework assignments and seriously you will lose track and stop caring about this class. I would never recommend this professor. Ever. Ever. Ever.
She gives curves and extra credit. She is an angel because she gives you 3hrs and extra time that you need to finish a test even though the tests are short. In other words, you don't have a time limit for tests. The best teacher you could possibly get for this course period. Highly recommended.
She typically reads right off the powerpoint and doesn't pause for clarification. Students rarely spoke up in class to ask questions so that made asking any questions strange. She Does curve however and gives extra credit but what's on the test is much more difficult than what is taught in class. Do the homework!
If you're looking for plenty of extra credit, she will be your best bet. Attending class isn't 100% mandatory, but lectures will come in handy for the hw, which there will be plenty of. Lots of chances for extra credit, even on exams, just for taking them early, on the lab assignments, and homework. Great professor, with a quirky sense of humor.
Very kind person, terrible teacher. Her tests are done online, through Blackboard which means it's all or nothing, no partial credit, which is ridiculous for a physics class. Her test average was anywhere from 40-50, and she's very snarky about curving. She blames it on student laziness when really it's her inability to teach and test.
I hate Physics. Never been interested and never will be. However, this physics course was exceptionally difficult. Im still not sure what my grade is going to be for the semester but i am dreading it. She's just not very good at explaining the material i think. Her exams are the worst! they do not go hand in hand with her lectures.
Worst professor you could ever have. You could attend every class and still fail. Avoid her at all cost, switch classes or postpone others if physics is required to avoid her. Tests are in the testing center and if you don't follow the online rules you fail even if you get the answer right. Do yourself and GPA a favor and DO NOT take for physics.
Just absolutely terrible as a professor. Very rude and standoffish to those who don't have A's in her class, and adamant in her belief that the exam average of a 50 must be due to student incompetence and laziness, rather than her inability to be a halfway decent professor. I personally believe she's not fit to be an instructor of anything.
Way too much homework for an intro class. Often did the homework during the lecture instead of listening. But, homework helped if your exam grades were low and it helps learn material. Not the worst choice, just too much homework.
She was just an awful teacher to have for someone who didn't take Physics in high school. I only got my grade because I sat next to people who did take high level Physics and even they struggled and were confused. The homework takes crazy long to complete and her lectures will NOT help you understand how to do the homework. I learned nothing.
I hate this professor, genuinely. PLEASE do not take her class if you can avoid it PLEASE. Workload is ridiculous and she acts like astronomy is the only class you have to take. Giving random assignments and so much homework. This is the worst professor I have ever had.
She's fun in person but the oppressive homework load will make you hate her. I don't know if she realizes that she's taking up literally every moment you have outside of class with her average of 150-200 homework problems a week due throughout the week but she is and not only is no one ever able to get it all done you can forget about other classe
She is not very good a lecturing at all. Majority of people in class end up not paying attention. Gives WAY too much homework for a 100 level course. Not worth the headache of taking the class. Try to find another professor.
She gives a lot of homework. A lot. As a person she's really sweet and cares a lot about her students doing well. You can easily miss a lecture for this course as she uploads the power points, but sometimes she does have (low credit) in class assignments.
Worst professor that I have ever had. Way too much homework for a 100-level course. I end up spending almost all of my free time working on assignments for her leaving no time for my other classes. She's a great lab teacher though. But lecture is horrible. She puts non-physics related material into the class which is so dumb. I hate her
gives anywhere from 150-200 hw problems A WEEK so you can forget about doing any other classes if you want to pass. Tests are done in the testing center and on blackboard. Avoid her at all costs
She is hilarious to me at least! Umm well she gives a ton of assignments but it really helps you out in the end to bounce back from the low exam scores so do them! Lecture is useless. Only went for iclicker quizzes. LAs helped me a ton!
She is a pretty good teacher even with an accent. Her lectures do get boring, but then again it is physics. She gives a TON of homework and I barely had the time to finish it all every week. She only gives 3 exams plus the final and they are really hard, but she does allow a cheat sheet. She is sweet and cares about everyone passing.
Physics is hard, not an easy A. Spent a few hours on LOTS of HW each week, a lot of time googling how to do problems. Partly MasteringPhysics' fault. Can have regular paper sheet w/ anything on it for exams. Tons of extra credit on exams, some on HW. Curves. Do well and you may be able to skip the final. You have to work, but this is college.
This class is so boring. Attendance is mandatory because she does clicker question every class. Her lectures are tedious and very boring. There's a lot of homework for the class, each module has 3 to 6 homework, but if you find quizlet's for them, you will be find. Very test heavy as well.
The class goes at a very fast pace and she does not slow down because you must learn everything for the exams. There is a lot of homework, but it can be beneficial to help you understand the material. Best bet, pay for Chegg and do your homework to understand, not to finish. Exams have a lot of possible extra credit points too.
Took her just for lab and she was super lenient and sweet. Easy to work with and accessible for questions. Not sure about her for lecture but labs were easy enough!
This is one of the worst classes have taken in my life. She gives TOO much homework to even retain the information you should be learning. I wouldnt recommend this class to my worst enemy that how bad this is. With all your other classes you will not have the energy to handle her excessiveness. Plus her lectures aren't helpful
Prepare for the most homework you have ever had.
This class was horrible. She gives TOO much homework to even retain the information you should be learning. I wouldnt recommend this class to my worst enemy that how bad this is. With all your other classes you will not have the energy to handle her excessiveness. Plus her lectures aren't helpful
Anna is a super sweetie and uses jokes and puns in her lectures, but I gotta admit, the class is boring at times. there is a ton of homework, so get ready for that. the tests come from the homework as well, so make sure you study those questions. you don't have to show up to class, but it would help if you did. all in all, the class was okay
Ok. Yes, she gives out a TON of homework but if you can't do it on time, she usually gives you time before each exam and before the end of the semester to finish it. Her tests are almost directly related to her homework. She ALWAYS responded to my e-mails on time and she gives out a TON of extra credit. She REALLY cares a lot about her students.
Shes honestly the most boring lecturer ever. And an extremely lazy grader; the majority of our semester was based off of three exams, which we were not allowed to take in person. Additionally, her exams and online homework assignments were littered with typos and errors, yet she told us that if we asked her to correct them, wed get lower grades.
The professor tries really hard to make the class accessible but there are several Blackboard quizzes per class, as well as observing activities that can't be done because there's too much light pollution in Fairfax. The lecture was boring and the class is extremely dense.
First time I ever got anything below a C in college This amount of homework she assigned was traumatizing, I ended up just cheating on all the homework because I was so worried I wouldn't be able to finish which led to not retaining any info. I wrote her long emails on previous occasions expressing my concerns and she never once replied.
Though she gives homework every week and her lectures take up the whole class period, she is an amazing professor; She will not let you drown if you reach out to her! If you have the ability to talk with her you and understand the material you will make it through this course! Everything is open note and she walks you through the lab.
I'm not done with this semester but I haven't felt this genuinely exhausted with a class in forever. There is just a idiotic amount of homework to deal with and it felt like I couldn't commit time into anything - it is the first class that genuinely made me consider dropping out of school, even though I'm doing fine elsewhere. Look elsewhere.
Extra credit
Too much work for summer course the materials are to difficult to understand as a non science majors. Only recommend taking this class if you want to be an astronut
Hours of HW each week via online quiz. HW quizzes can be retaken infinitely before due date. Extra pre-recorded lectures with comprehension quizzes each week. Online labs take forever. No textbook, she provides materials. Read the lecture slides. If you end up with her, reach out any time you're struggling, and she will do her best to help.
I have never taken a level 100 course that has stressed me out this much. I have a LIGHT semester this semester and I have more homework than I typically did with a 16 credit semester. This is barely fitting of a "beginning" to, It's more an awful barrage of formulas and units that you will most definitely forget in 5 minutes.
