Awesome teacher, really enthusiastic, loves what she is teaching. Guided notes make lectures and studying really easy.
Anna is extremely enthusiastic, which was off-putting at first, but I came to appreciate it because it helps keep the material interesting. She's very helpful and wants her students to succeed. She is funny and very knowledgeable. The book is unnecessary, the guided notes on Carmen are exactly what you need to study. I Highly reccommend her class.
Great professor. Class was interesting and easy. You will have to study a little but its not hard at all.
Anna was such a cool professor. Every class had guided notes that followed a powerpoint. The guided notes could either be done in class, or followed the book pretty consistently too. She showed a lot of interesting visuals and stories that made the learning more applicable to life.
Anna was an awesome professor! She knew how to make class interesting and was very enthusiastic about hte material. Studying is important for both quizes and exams, but if you do the work it is not hard to get an A.
made the class interesting
She is so sweet. She tries really hard to make class fun and is always willing to hear what you think. I only went to class on test days and still got an A. It's the easiest class I will ever take at college and the material is actually interesting.
you are not required to attend classes, but I highly recommend you to cause it's so interesting! she tries her best to make it fun and clear. I love the videos in class. the textbook is really funny too. Her materials were wellllll organized and easy , just memorizing a lil bit. My favorite class. Exams are easy too.
Really nice teacher. Wants to help and teach. Lectures are really long. Do need to study for tests and quizzes. Overall, good class. Hard to stay focused and memorize everything.
Clear and nice. Just go to class and you'll be fine. make sure to review notes. exams are hard because it takes the info and puts if in situations. If you study and go to class, not bad at all.
Wish I never took this class with this professor. Not a good experience.
She's a great professor. She really knows what she's talking about and answers emails quickly.
Really nice teacher. Makes sure you understand material. The material is tough important to attend class. She will offer extra credit, and curves when needed
She is a really nice teacher and is genuinely interested in helping the class. The problem is that her exams are really difficult. She doesn't use the homework/review questions as a guide to her exams "Why would I test you on something you already know?". I studied hard, went to review sessions, and did my homework and still did poorly on exams.
Dr. Yocom is an excellent professor! She is engaging, well prepared for class, and a genuinely caring and skilled teacher. She is fair, but that also means you can't slack off. You have to do the work, study, and attend class. You will have to apply what you?ve learned in class on the exams. She makes it easy to learn though. Just pay attention.
Very difficult. Not interesting material. You often lose major points for minor mistakes. It's a math class, not a psych class. She is unhelpful and does not make the material interesting in any way. Unfortunate that this class is required for the major.
She is very nice and interests in material. Homework and quizzes make a up huge part of the grade. Unfortunately, these assignments are completed online so you cannot ask for clarity on her extremely poorly worded, open ended, and arguably incorrectly constructed questions.
She's a good instructor for Primate Cognition. Knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. As long as you read the textbook, go to class, and do the discussion posts, you'll be fine.
Dr. Yocom was great! Sweet and kind, and the class wasn't hard. Lots of annoying group activities in class but I mostly just did them alone and she didn't seem to care. Considering it's a research methods class it wasn't all that boring. Would take from her again. Got an A.
Incredibly boring and there is very little class involvement. Class wasn't a hard topic but how she taught made people often zone out. She also dinks a lot of silly points off writing assignments.
This class was SO EASY. The only thing that is frustrating is that it seems many students were not prepared with the pre reqs for the class, I felt I was ahead of the game with my AP Stats course in high school. Exams are very fair and you get to make a formula sheet to use. Show up to class, take notes and you should get an A.
Dr. Yocom is a great professor who keeps the class interesting with fun and interactive activites that allow psychology to be related to your own life. Tests are difficult, as they reflect concepts and your understandings of those concepts.
She's super sweet, answers any questions, and the class is mind-blowingly easy. If you go to class and pay attention somewhat, you'll get an A. Very minimal work outside of class.
The best professor ever that you can get for a statistics class. She gives couple extra credits assignments and also curve the class! Homeworks assigned are super helpful! Love her!
While she is helpful, I just can't get over how the relation from her tests and homework don't matchup. The questions she makes are open ended and difficult to find answers too. I felt like everyday someone was challenging her on wording of questions. She is helpful, but more trouble to take any of her classes than they are worth.
She is terrible at teaching Data Analysis (stats). Frequently disengages the class by reading from the book. Only engages when a higher up is in the class evaluating. Every point counts with her terrible grading scale for a math based class. Babies the class with comments an elementary school teacher would use yet unable to actually teach us.
She contradicted herself constantly and the class wasn't clear on right answers at all. The homework is very confusing and she loves to grade you hard on things that could have gone either way as the answer. Wouldn't recommend her at a all. You will need the book because she doesn't teach herself but outlines what the book says.
Oh, Dr. Yocom. While I did get an A in this class, I'm pretty sure it was due to the AP Stats I took in high school. Anyone in her class can tell you that her test questions are often very poorly worded, and any attempt to question her will leave you with a sarcastic, condescending response. If possible, try to find another professor.
She was very clear in her explanations, but had a lot of material to cover. With that, going to the TA with questions was very helpful as well as getting practice examples at recitation. I would definitely attend class because any statistics is hard if you don't see the examples worked out.
I appreciated how approachable she was, which made a tough subject easier to relate to.
If you're able to attend every lecture, course is easy to follow. If you don't intend to be there every day, you probably don't want to take this class. "Study guides" are literally chapter titles and section titles straight from the book, and she only posts partial notes online. I spent hours reading. Participation assignments once a week.
If you attend class you should be fine. Her tests aren't super straight forward, but they're not impossible. Takes attendance once a week, and you'll have weekly hw and quizzes, but has a reasonable amount of extra credit available.
I knew things because of past stat classes. You have to go to lecture though because it can get confusing. Don't like turning in homework online. Needs more examples and better powerpoint! Attendance is taken at random times, so may the odds be ever in your favor. Also you will have to buy the textbook for maybe 3 homework questions all semester
Dr. Yocom is a great prof. The class set up allows you to succeed. HW was 36% of the grade so it is worth taking the time to do it well and you get to drop 2. Practice in class each week is really helpful and you get attendance credit so go to class on these days. She's a little peppy for my taste but helpful.
All you have to do to pass this class is the homework and do well on the tests (that's just to pass). If you want to excel in this course you need to show up everyday and study a bit. It's an easy class to take and if you don't show up (despite the fact that it's mandatory) then your final grade will only decrease 4 points.
homework due every week and an online quiz or two due every few weeks. I would recommend REALLY putting thought into your homework because a lot of your grade comes from there. GO TO LEARNING LAB FOR EXTRA CREDIT. On exams, start with the computations so you don't run out of time. Multiple choice can be tricky- it sucks but read the book to help.
Dr. Yocom's test are pretty fair and the homework is 30% of your grade. So as long as you study, do the homework, and show up on Fridays (attendance counts on review days) you should get at least a B no problem. I should note some homeworks have problems from the textbook on them, but you can use the books they have at the learning lab.
Anna is tough, I'm not gonna lie. But I also didn't put in as much effort as I should have. I missed a few homework assignments and participation points. If I would have gone to lecture more often, I would have easily gotten a B or higher (and I'm bad at math). Buy the textbook or make friends with someone who has it. You need it.
Dr. Yocom is a very tough grader. She looks for very specific information and I find myself questioning all my answers. She doesn't seem particularly interested in teaching, often having to make corrections to papershomework answers she has typed up to present to the class. I would recommend finding a different teacher for this class if possible.
Dr. Yocom is a good professor. She is engaging and truly wants to see her student succeed. Expect weekly homework, one attendance day each week, and a decent amount of extra credit. You will need to put in the effort, but overall, it is not a difficult class. Anyone who did not get the grade they had hoped for, simply didn't put in enough effort.
Professor Yocom was a good professor. She put the slides online before class so you can print them out and bring them. There are several opportunities for extra credit. Grade consists of homework, online quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 final, and attendance. Go to class, do the homework, study, and you'll do fine. Very willing to answer questions.
If this is your first time taking a class like this, i suggest taking it with another professor. There are homework assignments every week and if you dont understand the material you're screwed. Takes off alot of points for short answer exam questions. Extra credit only counts for 3pts (requires a ton of work) & she doesn't round your final grade.
Amazing professor! Tests and homework can be tough, but she is willing to help over email or in person. Don't be afraid to ask for help! There are lots of assignments, but it is all very organized. One of my FAVE profs!
Awesome teacher. Gives you plenty of opportunities to improve grade and miss quizzes and homework. She drops a lot of grades. Really easy to learn from.
She's kind of really annoying in lecture. Pretty boring and always walks around to make sure you're on task. Going to class matters because she takes attendance for credit. However I didn't learn anything from her. The book is what I used to study.
This professor is great! The class she teaches is difficult. However, if you show effort you will pass. She will allow you to call her cell phone, and is eager to help! I would take her again!!!
One of those professors that makes a subject more challenging than it should be. Homework is graded on correctness, not completion, and an online form is filled, while your work has to be translated into Microsoft Word and uploaded to receive credit. Extremely tedious, and she isn't helpful either. Tests are worded poorly as well.
Actually made the material interesting and I learned so much!! SO many chances for extra credit!
She is a nice lady. There are tons of homework, but 2 get dropped. No cumulative final. Gives random participation codes. If no one shows up to class she gives out extra, extra credit.
Great professor! So helpful for this tough class!! Actually cares about her students! Take her for this class, so good I promise!
Great teacher! Funny and tries to make class better. There is homework but its super easy and you have a week to do it. Easy tests. Can get extra credit points. Would only recommend getting the book if you are going to do the extra credit. If not, no need for it. Takes attendance on review days.
I am so thankful for Dr. Yocom. I was worried about this class because I struggle with math, but with her it was alright. You NEED to attend lectures to understand things. Only get the book if you want to do extra credit-otherwise it wasn't needed. She also offers extra credit on days you go over the exams so go to class!
I was really nervous for this class because I'm very bad at math, but Dr. Yocom made this class great! Her lectures are very good, and she gives plenty of practice opportunities. If you don't understand something, READ THE BOOK, reach out to her, TA's, or the peer tutors. She offers extra credit and the chance to correct homework. She's amazing!
I had professor Yocom for 2220. Since a lot of psych majors aren't in it because they love math, it's a hard course for some. She made everything crystal clear, though, and has a very good lecture, practice, and group work routine. It's a tough course, but I really liked her.
I was worried about this class because I'm terrible at math, but she makes the material easy to understand. Participation required on certain days. There is homework every week, but its not a bunch and you can earn credit on problems you missed. There are multiple opportunities for extra credit.
Great teacher! The material is not the easiest but she explains it clearly. There is a lot of opportunities to receive extra credit, too. The class requires a little bit of time and work but Dr. Yocom makes it very manageable.
This class was just horrible. The worst class I've taken. This class was very difficult and there was so much material to be covered.
Anna's class is set up that if you come to class and do all of the homework you will at least pass. She does give lots of extra credit opportunities so take advantage. The homework and tests are tough but not impossible if you study and attend class. The more you do above and beyond what is expected in class the better your grade will be!
Prof. Yocom is really good at explaining statistical terms in a way students can easily understand. She genuinely enjoys teaching the material and makes jokes throughout the lecture to keep people interested and at ease when some of the material seems difficult.
Dr. Yocom was super nice and the class was relatively easy if you paid attention and did the homework. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and is eager to help. The tests are exactly what she tells you to expect.
Don't need the book unless you want the end of chapter extra credit, so don't waste the money on it. Lots of extra credit opportunities are given in addition to the end of chapter ones as well. If you go to lecture and actually pay attention/participate, you should get an A for sure.
She makes stats very easy to understand. She makes sure the class is actively engaged in the material, and is very good at breaking down the lecture materials as well. Her tests are pretty easy, as long as you actively do the homework you'll be fine. Really have nothing bad to say about this class, Yocom is awesome and makes stats pretty easy.
Lectures aren't mandatory, but it's convenient to fill your guided notes in during class instead of on your own. Also, if you do attend class to get your notes, the book isn't really that useful unless you run out of time in class or sometimes for extra credit purposes. She's very upbeat and a good professor overall.
What should be a simple statistics course is ruined. Lectures are pointless, only go for attendance days. Reading through book explanations are what I used to learn, awful lecture slides. She's annoying. Tons of homework and extra credit offered but take FOREVER, you will hate your life while doing it. Only upside is tests were easy.
Was not looking forward to this class, but Prof Yocom actually made it enjoyable. Go to class and keep up with the homework and you can easily pass. Also Prof Yocom is very easy to talk to - go to her early if you need extra help! Great prof and good class.
Dr. Yocom is awesome. She made a difficult course very doable. I learned a TON and I didn't hate the class (I was fully expecting to hate it because I'm not big on math). She is funny, teaches well and she is very knowledgable. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT and the resubmissions, it will save you! I'd take again and I'd recommend to any psych major!
Ended with over 100% in the class. Lectures go through exactly what you need to know, and what steps to take. Gives formula sheets on exams. Homework is easy if you go to lecture, and offers a ton of extra credit on it at the end. Exams are just like practice worksheets for class. Makes the material and her exams very clear. Highly recommend.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but it really helps to show up to class and fill in the guided reading outline that she gives you. She also has random attendance days once a week that counts for participation.
Amazing Professor! Definitely take a class from her!
Dr. Yocom is a great teacher! She is super clear on what she expects, and makes the class easy to do well in. She offers so much extra credit that even if you mess up, you should still do fine in the class. Shes awesome!
Dr. Yocom was great! She gave a lot of extra credit options and her lectures were clear and easy to follow. Tests were not any harder than homework. She also made herself available a lot to help and was super nice. Definitely take her if you can!
She is by far my favorite prof. at OSU. She's really caring about her students and will take time out of her day to accomodate your schedule. The class moves kinda slow but you can really get a grasp on the subject that way. She is very thurough and the exam aren't too terribly hard. Make sure you do study and do a lot of practice problems.
Dr. Yocom is a try hard. Takes her class very seriously, requires a lot of participation and talking with peers, many discussions (that do not help), and grades papers too ambiguously. She does not budge on grades given (even if you are astute in your argument). I've had her many times... same in every class.
Dr. Yocom is awesome. I've never met anyone who doesn't like her and am genuinely surprised to see some lower ratings on here. I've actually taken a few classes with her and will probably take more if I can. She's so easy to talk to and very accessible outside of class. If you go to class, do the extra credit and homework, you'll land an A.
Dr. Yocum's courses are easy enough to get a good grade in if you show up and do the work. She loves participation and group work, so be prepared to talk to other people in class and do projects together. Attendance isn't taken, but if you miss a lecture you miss a ton of information. She makes class as interesting as she can and is a great person.
There was one group project (research paper) (optional to work alone), around 13 discussion post (2 lowest dropped) and 2 exams (3 including final). Grading was very clear. Lectures were clear and engaging. An awesome teacher. I only got a C+, but I definitely slacked in a major way. Therefore, a 2 difficulty rating. And easy A.
Yocom was probably one of the best professors I have had at Ohio State. She makes herself very available if you need her outside of class and loves answering questions. She also taught the material very well and really helped me understand stats. Has homework every week and gives lots of extra credit. Easy exams if you understand the material
Dr. Yocom is awesome. She is very easy to talk to and made class interesting! Already looking for another class to take with her!
Very nice, has all sorts of ways to get points such as tophat questions & group project. Tests are difficult, have to know the theories inside and out. Lots of opportunities for points, very helpful. would recommend taking her class agaim
Was nervous for this class, but Dr. Yocom made the material really clear. Do your homework, and ask for help if you need it. Lots of extra credit points too! Looking for other classes to take with this prof.
Very enthusiastic. Made one of my least favorite topics relatively enjoyable. Attendance is graded approx. once a week, the same day homework is due. These review/practice days are extremely beneficial. Tests are relatively straightforward. Disclaimer: Homework often uses previous answers, no later points are granted if you miss the first one.
She is very good at teaching her class and makes concepts clear and concise. Lecture is mandatory and for participation about 1 in every 3 lectures for practice days and there is a weekly homework, but overall these two things put together make it very easy to learn. She also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities
Wasn't expecting to enjoy this class. Dr. Yocom made the material easy to understand. Go to class and complete the extra credit!
Rated the course a 4 on difficulty b/c she makes you work for it. If you DO the work she assigns and STUDY (practice + do the odd problems in the book), an A is very attainable. Easy to lose points, so practice a lot. The guy who got a B+ and is complaining shouldn't have been skipping class. Prof gives lots of useful info in lecture. GO TO CLASS.
Every morning she comes in and goes "good morning how we doing?" and its the cutest thing. she's super helpful and positively reinforces questions.
Dr. Yocom's class definitely took a little time at the beginning, but was not hard at all. I had never taken a stats class before this, but her grading criteria, recommended textbook readings, and extra credit (no other profs for 2220 do this) really helped me do well. She is knowledgeable and wants her students to do well!!
Dr. Yocom's exams are very difficult since they are all application based, and, other than the group discussions in class, there is no way to practice for them. She also will grade any papers extremely tough. The only points of the class were from exams and group projects too. I recommend taking this class with another professor if possible.
It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, and there's a LOT of textbook reading. There were also quizzes, exams, a 3-part project, and 1-page responses, so a lot of grades but a lot of work. I felt that the exams were oddly specific over so much content. Overall, though, it wasn't too bad and the class was small and collaborative.
She's an excellent teacher but the class material and speed was difficult.
Not great at explaining class content. Over complicates simple statistic techniques. Does not answer questions when you ask. Calls out students in class
There was no homework in this class other than suggested readings, but she went over everything you need in class so it really is suggested. I did well, but you need to study the notes because there are no practice problems to use for exam prep. Lectures were very clear and Dr. Yocom is very nice and energetic in class.
Dr. yocom's lectures were really engaging and the 55 minute classes flew by. She has a very active classroom environment and encourages students to work together before explaining problems. Content is not too difficult, helps to have taken research methods first if possible tho. Don't be afraid to ask questions, lectures can move pretty quickly.
A good professor, but her grading can be very unreasonable. There aren't that many grades in the class either. The class is very interesting, but not an easy A by any means.
If you have ever taken a stats class, you'll probably think this class is really simple. However, Yocom overcomplicates ideas, uses weird formulas/data sheets, and her exams are ridiculously irrelevant to anything talked about in class. Despite having a good grip on class material, overall exam grades sucked and she doesn't curve or round up.
This class is fairly easy. If you do the review sheets she gives for each chapter, the midterms should be cake. I only went to class on the mandatory attendance days, other days the material was easy enough to learn from the textbook. She also offers up to 9 points of extra credit.
Dr. Yocom was awesome! She made what I thought was going to be an impossible class easy to understand. If you put in the time, you can get a good grade. Do the extra credit too!
I actually enjoyed the class. Yocom makes the material pretty straightforward -- come to class and it is easy to prepare for the homework and exams! She is super nice and easy to talk to.
Was thinking I was going to do average in this class, I have gotten A's in all of my logical math classes (algebra, pre-calc) BUT this class.... there's about 30 kids in my class FAILING. She makes things too complicated and grades harshly on the homework.
Anna Yocom is absolutely amazing. She makes new info easy to understand because of the amount of examples and practice you do in class. She also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Yocom was amazing! I was surprised by how clear this material was -- the exams are pretty easy if you come to class and follow along. Would definitely take her for another class!
The material itself is not difficult, but she made simple ideas too complicated in exams, and the homework is really difficult. She doesn't round up or curve. I got 89.9% this semester.
Dr. Yocom made Data Analysis not terrible, however you have to put in a lot of work. Her multiple choice on the exams are far more difficult than the extended response. Go to class and do the homework problems! Her slides are very clear and help you understand better if youre confused. She can overcomplicate ideas!
I loved Dr. Yocom! She goes over everything that will be on the tests, so reading the textbook is not necessary unless you didnt go to class. As long as you study your notes and memorize terms, the tests are not hard. There are 2 projects, a presentation/paper and research, that you complete in groups. If you put the effort in, you get an A.
Dr. Yocom is a solid choice for this course. She gives students all the material they need to pass. you are only required to attend lecture on "practice" or "exam" review days. I only attended the required days and passed with an A. Show up to review days and pay attention, know whats on her study guide, and use the book (gold) to clarify concepts
Online videos were great. Even examples worked out on the screen!
I didnt really enjoy this class at all, I was constantly confused and felt that Yocom was confusing. Difficult material and was hard for me to comprehend especially since math is my weakest subject. We were also bombarded with work, there was always SOMETHING for us to do and it was hard for me to manage in my situation.
Dr. Yocom rocks! I was super scared of this class and she made it very easy to follow along and learn the material. Make sure you read the book and do the practice!
Yocom is a great prof! She's really sweet and helpful, and seems like she genuinely cares about all of her students. As long as you're willing to put forth the effort to get help from her or her TAs when you need it, this class should be very easy for you. otherwise, you'd better hope you did really well in stats in high school.
If you come to class and listen you will be fine. Tests are completely fair. She seemed to be that professor that wanted to be more reasonable Bc she knows we have other classes and that made me appreciative.
Dr. Yocom made this class much better than I expected! Go to class and ask questions when they come up!
LOVED this class! Prof Yocom made me want to attend class -- she made things interesting and kept us involved.
A great professor for this class. You only need to show up when you do the chapter practices and there are a lot of opportunities to get your grade up. If you can take this class with her I would recommend it.
I had Dr. Yocom for PSYCH 1100H last semester, and although I had never studied psych ever before, she made it so much easier for me to understand. In my experience, I found that the lecture notes were the most essential thing even though I still used the textbook. She also really cares about all her students. Definitely recommend!!!
I thought this would be an easy class as I've taken child psych. Wrong. So much textbook reading. Started class online but randomly took away that option. NEED TO GO TO CLASS. Exams are a thumbs down. Not nearly enough time & too specific. Don't think I learned anything. 100% regret taking this class.
Dr. Yocom sincerely cares about her students a lot and is very accessible outside of class. If you took AP Statistics in high school you'll do great. Attendance is required on chapter practice days. She offers a TON of extra credit opportunities- and no calculation problems on exams. Take this class with her!
The class itself wasn't my favorite, and I would have preferred to use a textbook to PyscLearn, but that's simply because of how math-y it is. Dr. Yocom is very understanding and approachable and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit! Overall, her teaching style was easy to understand and wasn't overwhelming, would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Yocom is a good professor, but I don't think I would take another one of her classes because quite honestly she is annoying. She definitely knows what she is talking about but makes things a lot more complicated than they should be. Go to the learning lab and get extra credit and don't forget to go on attendance days.
The class was fine. It was not particularly interesting to me. I got a low grade because I put very little effort in but it was definitely not a hard class. There was also a lot of extra credit offered. It was not a bad class I just don't like statistics and I wasn't engaged in it .
Took this as a summer course and it was well worth it. She offered so much extra credit and it was for easy stuff too. The textbook made things confusing but her lectures were always short and very helpful. You don't have to do any actual math on the exams, just on the homework. She always encourages people to reach out with questions.
She is not a great lecturer in my opinion, but I think it was worse for me because this class is only two days a week which makes the classes longer. I get very bored in her lectures, she use the same phrases over and over, and I don't love the way that she responds to some people when they offer their point of view (acts uninterested).
Dr. Yocom has great lectures that include a variety of material like slides, videos, charts, and examples that we look at in class. She allows a front&back page of notes on exams, uses TopHat for reading questions, and had 3 1-page papers throughout the semester. She's available after class for questions and encourages discussion in class.
Amazing class and Dr. Yocum is extremely passionate about the content. She doesn't always cover every point during lecture so there are LONG interactive readings for homework. Attendance is really only mandatory on the days when in activities due in class. I certainly felt lost after the one class I missed. She allows 1 pg notes for the exams.
She's pleasant and cares about her students. Has a quiz every week on the long readings, and these affect your grade. Don't skip. Allows one OOPS pass that allows you to drop your lowest grade. Beyond this, she's inflexible; no extra credit with her. Doesn't upload class slides online. TAKE NOTES! Allows one page of notes (double-sided) for exams.
Reading homework is excessive. Each chapter requires us to anwser over 75 concept questions, which takes a long time to complete. This has affected my focus on other classes and as a result, have become more stressed. Being successful in this course requires completing reading assignments, being an active notetaker, and studying hard for exams.
Too many reading assignments that require us to complete a maximum of more than 200 questions. Credits are not given for correctness, but still painful and time-consuming. Especially when two readings are due in one week! The exam allows one page of notes. But questions could be a lot and very detailed. Not an easy A to get even compared to 3513.
Yocom was a great teacher! I did not like the fact that most classes were mostly a discussion rather than a lecture. It was more of students' opinions rather than the lectures. The tests were okay but the questions came from the book rather than the lecture. Attendance was not mandatory but would have in-class activities randomly.
Dr. Yocom is a wonderful instructor who always makes your contributions feel valued. The course is mostly discussion based, which helps keep your attention. I'll admit, the textbook homework was unnecessarily tedious, but you get used to it. Because it covers the whole lifespan, be prepared to take a lot of information in...a lot...
Dr. Yocom has great lectures that included slides, videos, charts, and examples. She allows a front&back page of notes on exams, uses TopHat for feedback & getting-to-know-you questions, gives 3 1-pagers throughout the sem, 3 extra credit assignments, is available after class, will meet to discuss exam grades, & encourages discussion in class.
If you dont like to read dont even consider taking this class. If you dont read youll have no idea whats going on. She expects you to learn from the reading and then she elaborates in class yet doesnt teach. I asked her what something meant and she said "Yea, I dont do definitions i just do explanations if you want a definition read the book" 0/10
Dr. Yocom was the worst professor I have had yet. You have to do a lot of reading which I was fine with but sometimes the readings wouldn't be clear. When you ask her about it in class she doesn't do a good job clarifying, and talks in circles a lot. She also wants us to rely on our peers to help teach instead of teaching herself. 0/10
Course had a lot of opportunities for extra credit. I'm not a huge fan of stats, but she was always excited and had a very positive energy about her. Loved answering questions and helping her students.
Anna is one of my favorite professors I have ever had! You do not have to be good at math at all to succeed in this class. She is funny and really cares about the topic and her students. She offered sooo much extra credit, and a cheat sheet on every exam! Lectures were only mandatory like once a week. Can not recommend her enough!
She was a nice professor and explained things well, but the homeworks were nothing like the exams. Our weekly homework and our weekly in-class assignments were mostly math problems, and her exams were strictly application-based, not math. Lots of extra credit opportunities, but her exams were heavy, worth nearly 60-70% of your final grade.
Dr. Yocom is amazing!! she made data analysis so easy. Her lectures were interesting and helpful. Work load was manageable and all helped my understanding of the content. Lots of extra credit opportunities! We were allowed to have a doubled-sided note page for every exam (including the final). The book was also helpful. Take Dr. Yocom if you can!!
She has a random in-class assignments making the attendance mandatory since its worth points. Chapter assignments are over 2 hours long not including the reading you have to do to prepare for exams. She's not thorough when you come to her with questions or need help with improving your grade. Very difficult and tough grader.
The notes were not able to be access until after class, so during class your on your own. Had a lot of responses like, "You'd have to check the textbook to understand" to questions. Attendance mandatory because she would randomly give extra credit for being in class. Exams material were different from lecture material. So hard I had to drop it.
Dr. Yocom is kind and caring - she explains the material thoroughly. The textbook can be hard to follow and the homework assignments provided don't directly translate to exams (calculation homework vs concept exams) do all the extra credit she offers and you'll be fine (I got C's on 3 of the exams but ended up with an A-).
Great professor! Loved her. For this class, don't waste too much time on the textbook readings or questions. She only tests on class context which is way less in depth than the textbook. The classes were engaging and she has you discuss interesting questions with people around you. Overall a great class. Answers questions.
Since this was an online class I never met Dr. Yocom. About the class, however, is that it's not "difficult." The textbook is just very dry and long when all it needs to do is describe formulas. It is difficult to filter out what is necessary for homework and tests. Overall, it is a dull statistics course and you will need to put in the work.
I am writing this after the release of our second exam score. Our class average was a 50% and it feels like she is gaslighting us into thinking it is our faults for failing. I understand we need to study outside of class, but there is nothing to study, she provides us with little material to study on the exams. I don't recommend Anna Yocom.
The tests in this class were nothing like the material she teaches during lecture. She focuses heavily on calculations during class, but then on tests we do no calculations and it's all conceptual topics. When asking her for help she basically tells the class to try harder and go to the learning lab, which isn't helpful either.
Professor Yocom can be hit or miss - she offers a lot of extra credit, but lectures and readings don't always align with exams. Use resources like unstuck AI to supplement and stay on top of the material.
There's a lot of reading in the text book and the homework takes a while sometimes. There's not much work outside of this besides in class activities and a group project.
Dr. Yocom was great! She offered A TON of extra credit, and has many assignments dropped from your final grade to ensure one bad assignment doesn't screw you over. There are 4 exams that aren't super difficult, weekly problem sets, and homework assignments. She's always willing to help and I thought she was very fair. Highly recommend!
Dr. Yocom is a nice person but awful as a lecturer. Her exams do not align with then lecture/homework. She grades tough on exams too. The course is homework heavy. She will make you feel defeated as a student. There are tons of opportunities for extra credit and I would take complete advantage of that.
I'm taking another class with dr. Yocom this semester recuse of how much I like her. She's very organized and on top of things. Her timing is honestly insane. She's super understanding and super friendly.
I don't understand what I'm supposed to know. This is the worst class I've ever taken in my undergrad experience thus far. I've got a 3.9 GPA and I worry about even being able to get a 50% on exams. Study guides are so poorly made, myself and the other students shake with fear before taking the exams. Ive never felt so discouraged as a student.
Was a super unhelpful professor. I have academic accommodations that she completely ignored. Her I dont feel that she prepped her students for exams very well.
Dr Yocom was VERY easy to talk to and cares about her students so much! One of the most organized classes I have every taken.
Love her style of teaching for this class! Notes were not overwhelming and gave us a chance to state our opinions in a supportive environment. I learned SO MUCH in this class.
It isn't an easy subject, but she teaches it well. I have previous stats knowledge, and I am still commiting at least 3 hours a week to homework plus additional time going to the learning lab to earn extra credit and attend review sessions.
She was very concise and clear with her expectations. She seems very driven and fluent in data analytics. She provides many resources for help outside of class and acts extremely professional. I would say as long as you pay attention and put in work in the learning lab, you will do good in the class.
Loved this class! So many chances to have discussions and really think about the topics.
I really liked this class. The group work made it go so fast and the worksheets matched the weekly homework.
She is very nice, but I think there were some issues with the class. I liked how the exams were more conceptual, but I don't think the classes really matched the exam. That being said, they did match the homework well. I also don't think the tophat is given enough time to finish the in-class work and put the answers in, and it is stressful.
Tough class for me, but I learned alot! Dr. Yocom really cares about her students and was always available to meet and talk through questions.
Dr. Yocom had the best stories! Loved how she set up this class.
You would do a couple of assignments every week and would take the class for credit. No tests but there's some extra credit opportunities to help bump your grade up. I would suggest using the learning lab or switch to a different professor.
Extremely strict on the most trivial things. I was .02 away from an A, she sent everyone in the class a scalding email saying she would not budge on any grades. The email was worded like a toddler, because it was along the lines of "im not going to help you....... just because I dont want to and I said so". I expected more maturity from a professor
