VERY GOOD!
Guys, if you are Art major or you seriously interesting in Art history, then you should take Professor Andres. You will learn a lot of Western art history which include architecture, painting and others. Very good class as long as you can enjoy in it. Recommended!
I love this woman! She is so dedicated to the topic that she makes you want to pay attention. Her tests are common sense even though there is a little memorization involved. I highly recommend taking her class becuase it is worth it! Plus she's a cutie!
Great professor! Very enthusiatic, young and funny. Shows lectures are very clear, helpful for everyone, cares students comments. Gives a lot of reading. Overall,a good professor!
very thourough, extensive research. If you take the time to study for her tests you will do very well. The tests are very self-explanatory, anybody who knows how to study will do fine. And she will help you if you ask. Also, she had the highly critical w/paper assignment/essays, very articulate
She is new to teaching so sometimes she wasn't sure of things or planned stuff poorly(like having 10 presentations on the day of the final)But besides that, the class is easy.Only 3 papers & 3 tests. She gives review lectures and really wants students to do well. She is very smart and willprobably be a really good professor in a few years.Recommended
Professor Andres isn't hard. She expects that you can learn a lot from her. Also, she expects you to read! Of course, this class generally requires a lot of reading, in order to help gaining knowledge. Reading is a key to help you do test very well!Guys, you just need take notes and read the text book, you will get A for sure!
She seems to get nervous if the class doesn't participate. Try to participate and the lectures come to life! The exams were hard for me. She allowed people that wrote a bad museum paper to rewrite it, giving very helpful suggestions. If I took Art History elsewhere, I know I would have received a lower grade. Recommended!
I believe that most of them are really interesting with the Art History because it is a super interesting subject for ones to study. Professor Andres is young and passionate. She cares students participate and encourage them to learn. Great professor, learned a lot and always appreciate with her:)
Mrs. Andres's class is easy if you pay attention to her lectures. SHe does a lot of helpful lectures always reviews before the test. She always repeats important info You have to study in order to receive an A, but her teaching methods are well so your notes would do. Participation is important, and there is only one paper
At first i thought she was a b****, she seems to be really mean to students but after i approached her, things really change. She want you to do good on the class and she is willing to help. Pay attention in class, take notes, review your notes in class, and you will do fine. Her reviews are really helpful cuz somtimes is on the test. Recommended
I think she's the easiest and clearer art history teacher here. Her lectures aren't boring and the tests aren't as hard as she "makes it seem" such as devoting your time of day to reading comprehending the material. The class participation is kind of lame and I think it's better if she reviews instead of students.
she is a really great teacher and makes art history very interesting . i honestly loved the class, but sometimes she would be in a bad mood and take it out on her students. other then that if you study and listen to what she says you will for sure get at least a "B".
Great teacher. You must study for her class to get a good grade. One paper 30%, 3 test 20%, attendance 10%.
GREAT TEACHER. YOU MUST TAKE THE TIME TO STUDY FOR HER CLASS.1 PAPER 30%, 3 TEST 20%, ATTENDANCE 10%. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF BECAUSE SHE WILL CALL ON YOU.
THE BEST TEACHER! she makes history fun and gives good notes. took her summer class so it moved pretty quickly, but it was still manageable. read and take notes in class and you will do FINE.
BORING CLASS...AND USELESS EXTRA CREDITS
this class is really boring. My friend and I falls asleep sometimes in her class. she made me write an essay to makeup a test and she gave me a D on it. =/ And she was really mean about it to. she said it was a disgrace to turn it in. stupid teacher. DONT TAKE this class unless you like art history or you'll just fall asleep. Waste of money.
Dont listen to anybody who is talking bad about this teacher or the class. they obviously didnt care about the subject or school in general. Prof. Andres is very passionate about the subject, and shes a great teacher. The class needs attention, but very interesting.
By far one of the Best teachers I have ever had. Professor Andres loves Art History and this comes through in her lectures. She puts her all into teaching and expects you to put in effort as well. Lectures are very interesting so it is easy to pay attention. Take notes and participate. Easy class unless you are lazy and immature. Great teacher!!
Professor Andres expects you to be prepared because she will call on you, and if you can't answer her questions...you'll be humiliated. However, this is how she prepares the students and the daily reviews really help a lot for the exams. Stick to the works she emhasizes on. It's an easy class but you learn tremendously.
Overall her class was really straightforward and simple. Professor Andres doesn't test you on minute details; just on key works and key terms. Not the best lecturer, she does consign to the "emm" habit quite often.
class is somewhat interesting. sat in front and still found it boring. took summer class and wasnt too hard. its an easy class if you find this stuff interesting and enjoyable but most of the people didnt. you will learn a lot about the subject. take notes, study notes, and review everyday. she will call on you and expect you to know all about it.
bad attitude in teaching
she's a really hard teacher. she lectures really fast and you canm't get all the notes. Her test are pretty hard. I wouldn't suggest taking her class unless you have prior knowledge of the info.
I didn't like her class. I only took it because a lot of people said she was easy. Her class was boring, boring, and more boring... And I didn't like her attitude as a Prof. I wouldn't suggest her class. =/
She is a HARSH teacher when it comes to attitude. Her lectures are very long and does little for those with background of Classical European history. Definitely take HIST1A before taking this class... I had like 10 people in my class who had failed hers and was retaking it and were doing really good.. the 2nd time around.. Passed with a C.. barely.
She is a little intimidating in the beginning, but she gets nicer as the semester goes on. It's a 3 hour class, so try your best to pay attention and take notes because everything she talks about will be on the test. Participation is part of the grade so review your notes before every class. 3 tests, and one 3-5 page essay. Also, make flashcards.
Professor Andres is a very good Art History teacher. She is very clear about what she expects from her students so take what she says seriously and you'll do fine. She expects lots of class participation from her students as well.
Must ATTEND LECTURES, sometimes she goes too fast, so READ the book, just key works and terms. Answer questions for PARTICIPATION (huge part of grade), so know your stuff before class. Very helpful, don't get intimidated by her professional demeanor. Know how to write essay questions for tests and HW.
Very straight forward class. Just need to remember simple facts and dates for each artwork. 3 tests, and only 3 homework assignments. 1 field trip (go on your own time). Class participation and attendance is a must for an A.
Very clear & straightforward.
Her personality is so great, as is her sense of humor. You can tell she is deeply invested in Art History and truly loves. Tests are very straightforward as are writing assignments. Textbook use is minimal, a good support for studying, but not entirely necessary. She reviews previous material each class, so it's very hard to get lost.
I took Art 1b. Love her! She knows a lot and makes the information way more interesting than the book. If you do the memorization and flashcards like she says, then the tests are pretty easy too. She is very clear and it is easy to tell what is important to remember in that class. You learn a lot about history from that period, not just art.

I found the class to be easy, didn't even need the flashcards. But I found her to be quite condescending and negative. She had a poor attitude and believed herself superior because she also teaches at UCLA that she is better than PCC. First few weeks she talked down to everyone as if expecting everyone to fail.Teachers are inspiring she is NOT.
Her class is easy if you read and do your flash cards and if you participate.
She is a great teacher, great in that she gives you all the information you need in lectures and slideshows (and even puts them up online for you to review). You don't really need the book, her lectures are so in detail that that will do enough. She obviously knows and loves what she does and it transmits through her lecture. She's great! :)
She thought that her participation points can do everything and that she could make the test so hard and take off so many points. I wouldn't wish to have that 100 participation points to lose other points both in tests and assignments.
She took a subject for which I only signed up to fulfill transfer reqs, and made it the most fascinating one of my semester. By the end, I thought of adding Art History as a minor. She's friendly and pretty, too. Don't think sitting in the back will save you from being called on, though. If you stay quiet, she picks you first. Participate, people!
her class wasn't easy in my opinion, and it's not a class for quiet students. she expects you to answer correctly every time, and to write long essays perfectly! it made me feel really nervous.
Professor Andres seemed like a nice lady, but she thinks she's an English professor. She grades assignments and essays harder than my English 1A professor. Oh, and make flash cards! It helps! The book is only needed if you miss a class and need to look up a key work covered. She waists a lot of time going over non-key works, it's pretty ridiculous!
In every assignment you do, include lots of detail as she gives the highest grade to those:even essays. Make flashcards with name, date, picture, and background information on key works & key terms. Participate a lot during the first two weeks in class (review notes before class) and she will rarely ever call you or almost never after that.
Awesome teacher! Walked into class thinking it's going to be boring but surprisingly I had a great time. Just pay attention to her lectures and study your notes before class! She quizzes you first thing the next day. You WILL get an A on the tests and course if you study. Awesome trip to the Getty, awesome class overall!
Andres knows her stuff, but she's really irritating. She can hardly pronounce the names of the artists and terms she's trying to teach you. Barely used the book, and tests were easy and straightforward. Take her if you can handle sitting through an hour of review and 'formal' analysis based on conjecture.
Awesome professor! Easy, streamlined class and it makes Art History not boring! You do have to pay attention during class to get an A though!(unlike popular opinion)
This class is hard, which she tells you from day one, but it is also interesting and she is passionate about the subject. Her lectures are good and she always does reviews. Tests are hard, a lot of memorization. I got an A. She grades essays pretty easily. I loved her class. Recommend it if you are willing to work and interested in art
GREAT professor! clearly passionate about the topics which makes the subject matter more interesting to learn. Somewhat harsh grader but I learned a lot in this class and received an A. Make sure to review before each class and fully prepare for the tests (3 total), a few trick questions. I recommend this professor in a heart beat.
I took her 1B class just to get my art requirement out of the way. I am now an art history major! She knows her stuff and she is willing to help you in any way! Read the book, take notes (FLASHCARDS), and review before every class. 3 tests, multiple choice and essay.
She looks like a model. She talks about being UCLA level, but the class isn't too hard. She's really passionate about art and her lectures give you a taste of that. Lots of movies, documentaries, and cool info about art. She also has a fun, sassy attitude which might scare some people but I found it really fun :)
She is honestly such a great prof. who loves what she teaches. Review before every class and she randomly calls you out. If you don't study she gets upset but honestly she is great! I loved the class.
Andres is an awesome teacher!! she grades fairly and is very passionate about teaching. She teaches great if you love art than take this class!!! you won't regret taking it. you will learn a lot of things that are interesting!
i dont know why everyone down there is saying she is a great teacher.. unless she is paying them? because she is hard and seems stuck up. i hope i pass her class.. she likes failing alot of people. how are you supposed to know 50 pictures and the name, history, reason for a test? ridiculous
no extra credit opportunity at all...
Organized lectures. Recommend taking good notes and try not to miss the reviews at the beginning of each meeting regardless if you didn't study, although, participation is sought. Recorded lectures provided. Moderate writing assignments and exams. A true Art historian and exquisite woman.
Awesome teacher. Very knowledgable and makes the lectures interesting. You will need to take good notes. She reviews every class meeting which is awesome. She is a hard professor but anyone can earn a good grade if you try.
If I could grade her, she'd get 100. I've never had a professor work harder for my A. She brings the artworks to life in her lectures - I even had dreams about them! She spends a great deal of class time reviewing key concepts and making sure students get it. She's a true professional, and I hope PCC knows how lucky they are to have her.
At first this professor tried to befriend me, complimenting me, which I was not expecting. I sat in the front row and was always attentive and took notes. However, she's the kind of professor where if she's having a bad day, you pay for it. By the end I disliked her very much, especially when my A went to a B because of her participation points.
I NEVER, like not ONCE used my book. Her lectures are so packed with information that just taking good notes and reading over them once was enough for me to ace each test. Fun class overall, really interesting. She is good at mixing cultures history with each art piece. Participation is important. She expects a well written paper for the project.
Possibly one of the most arrogant professors at PCC. Would not recommend. She has one of the worst attitudes and not a helpful professor.
Great professor. she's very clear on what she expects from you. she tells you exactly what's going to be the test. if you get anything less than a B there's something wrong with you. and she's real easy on the eyes
Phenomenal teacher! There are only three tests throughout the semester and a project where you visit a museum!! The lectures are clear-cut and fun. As long as you take notes and make flashcards.
Alright she is a fine professor except sometimes she gets too deep and uses hard words you can't understand lmao BUT lectures are very informative, I suggest you whip out your laptop and take notes digitally rather than pencil because you can't keep up haha. Study hard for her midterms and it's an easy A but it is LOT of info.
She is one super smart super awesome teacher! Great info! Very impressive!
I came into class thinking "Oh great, this is going to be a long semester." I was pleasantly surprised once we got into the material with how wrong i was. The semester actually fly by, and the knowledge obtained in this class has given me a new prospective when admiring pieces of Artwork, and taught me that works of Art reflect the world we live in
I would like students to know that you must go to every one of her lectures or you will not do as well on the tests. There are only 3 tests and one essay that goes on your grade. Her test are kind of challenging and you have to take notes fast, read the textbook, and make flashcards to try to get a A on the test. Over all she is a good teacher.
I absolutely hate art history. Just took the class as a transfer requirement. Hate her tests but at least she doesn't give homework except for 1 assignment where you visit a museum of some sort. She does do a good job of explaining and is very passionate and well versed in her subject. That I do have to accredit her for......
She is the most awesome teacher I have ever had. I cant say enough about how awesome she is!!!!!!
If anyone has anything negative to say about Professor A you need a reality check. This prof really knows how to make the best use of class time. It is straightforward lecture, notes, and 3 tests. As a disabled student, I laud her willingness to accommodate the assignments to my abilities. Recommend her whether you're an art history major or not!
She is very passionate about her teachings, and that's what makes this class unique. But be advise, participation is really required and must read over the notes before showing up to her class. Be prepared to take her tests since all of it are memorization of what she covered and at least one field trip to the museum she assigned. Overall, not bad.
she is the nicest professor I've ever taken in PCC. ask her for any help. 3 tests of multiple choice+ an essay and 1 paper. you don't need the textbook if you have a very good note-taking skills. she has review of the previous lectures every beginning of the class and it is very helpful! do participate in the review because it's really matters.
A good professor but I wouldn't say the best. Talks rather in a quick pace but that is expected since it is indeed Art History. Participation is very vital as she expects everyone to participate and her tests are multiple choice so it isn't that bad. Just remember that participation is needed! There is also a field trip to the Norton Simon Museum.
Took her 01A class last spring and I can tell that she's really passionate about the subject. She knows what she's talking about and I learned a lot from her class. However, she is a tough grader and she is not considerate. She pushes her students too hard and expects a lot from them. I worked hard to get an A but she gave me a B instead.
Class is based off of 3 tests and one paper. Her class is super easy and her tests are straight forward. The multiple choice section at least. But, she grades the in class essays (part of tests) too strictly. Expects everyone to be an art historian. She isn't very nice and will call you out in front of everyone if you get a question wrong. Rude.
DONT BELIEVE THIS 4.2 rating. Test is tricky. Not easy. Everything in on the powerpoint and you can't go back. Essay question is timed 25 mins. Several students in the class has a 4.0 GPA-- Not anymore. She tests on things we don't even talk about. I emailed her several times and when I ask her if she could read my paper, I got ignored. never again
Don't take this class if you want to maintain your GPA or want to increase it. As a recipient of scholarships, I have a strong incentive to maintain my GPA. My GPA will go down because of this class! Her tests are indeed tricky, we spend a lot of time on material that won't be on the tests, and she speaks to students with an undermining tone.
Are we on the same planet? Don't believe the hype, the high rating, and the overly optimistic people. She says participation matters. How could it when she can't even remember people's names? I've risen my hand to participate in discussion many times - she's rarely called on me - but when she did, she's called me by the wrong name AT LEAST 8 times.
Are you Kidding me this is an 4.2 Professor?!?!?!?! it should be an 1.2! . She tells every one that were not friends... She is kinda rude when you get called out and get the answer wrong... goes too fast on the powerpoints... and challenging test with was 40 multiple choice and essay. there are a total of 3 testes and one essay . NOT Recommended!
A lot of bad reviews here but she isn't as bad as everyone is saying. She is very knowlegeable in Art history and passionate. For some people History can be boring but the source material was very interesting. Test are pretty easy as long as you study and use flashcards. She is very sweet and kind if she sees you are actually making an effort.
Annalee has this manner of speaking that screams WELL EDUCATED! She's kind, packs a lot of information into her lectures and knows her art history. I wouldn't recommend missing any lecture because again they are so dense. STUDY HARD and you'll do fine.
she is the worst professor I've ever had. she thinks her class is priority over everything and thinks everyone is an art major student and are in art University! Do not take her class if you don't want to ruin your GPA!
3 Exams (250 points each), Getty Villa Assignment (3+ pages, 150 points), Class Participation (100 points). I failed her class. The exams are HARD, tho if you study, you can get a decent grade. Her presentations are AMAZING, her voice is very soothing as if she was a tour guide. Be respectful to her, participate in class, and she'll like you a lot.
Andres is a great professor. She is very good at what she knows but expects you to know as much as she does. There are 3 tests total and 1 paper which makes it hard to make up if you fail one. Get ready to study, flash cards will be your best friend.
Prof. Andres is self absorbed, and a hard critic. She is very knowledgeable of the subject, makes everyday lectures interesting, but very fast paced. She also shows movies related to the subject. Her class is HARD, she expects everyone to become art critics, the paper on Getty Villa artifact was harshly graded as an English paper. She's too much.
Grade is based on 3 tests. I messed one up and wasn't able to reach an A. She is rude if you are not able to answer when called upon. Would not recommend her class to anyone.
So most of the reviews are accurate but I definitely feel like I was actually educated after taking this class which I cannot say for others-_- She is on the tougher side + has high expectations which really shows how much she cares. She never throws curveballs and yes she wants you to be a mini art historian but it really does influence your life!
Her lectures are lengthy and her pacing is occasionally too fast, but pay attention during class, take good notes, read the textbook, and use the internet to review works that weren't sufficiently covered to get an A. Although she calls people out, she's made it clear to review the notes before class. Overall, she is a solid prof.
Amazing Professor that really inspires students to learn. Always share side of fun facts when teaching, allowing easier memorization. Exams are very easy, so long you pay attention in class, would recommend record her lecture so you could listen to it later.
She's a really good teacher! There is NO homework, only 3-4 test (including same test format for Final), 1 Comparison paper. For our class, her tests consist of 40 multiple choice questions with a little comparison essay in the end. Attendance is required but she goes over a lot of the Art work in her lectures that will benefit you for the tests.
She expects you to memorize the entire lecture the next time you meet up, she calls on a students while she's going over notes and if you don't know the answer she's gets offended and calls you out, she makes students feel uncomfortable or embarrassed, even though thats not what a professor should do.
An excellent teacher captivating and mesmerizing in her lectures. She gets you so absorbed by the material and stories she presents I will likely remember this class for my whole life
Loved this class and the way she taught it. My only complaint will be the amount of material we need to memorize and the format of the tests. She really makes you work hard for your grade. Prepare to put some time in this class.
Prof. Andres is really passionate of Art History and it reflects in her lectures. You need to have a solid knowledge of grammar and syntax when writing her essays and NEVER use "show" in any of your papers. You need to take a trip to the Norton Simon Museum for a midterm paper. Participation matters so take clear notes the lecture before.
Professor Andres was one of the most inspirational professors I have ever had. I am a quiet student and she makes me feel heard. There is a sense of respect on both sides. I am not a big Art Histroy fan but would for sure take again.
Prof Andres really makes you work hard for the class, but it is truly worth it! I learned so much from her class that I can apply to my daily life.
Prof Andres is like a mother to me. she has guided me through my PCC experience and now I'm off to UCLA. I never spoke up in her class but I learned a lot. Forever grateful for this prof!
I had such a hard time keeping up with her homework. I don't think she was cooperative especially during these times. It is really hard to impress her, your best work would be a good 6 for her. I wish she was a little bit more nicer in her comment and once in a while appreciated what we did. She gives a lot of homework :(
Her lectures and the modules she posts can be quite engaging and entertaining. At times, her videos often show her cat and she does have an uplifting and nice personality. However, she's quite a tough grader especially in discussions and in group projects. There are times where I didn't enjoy the class at certain topics, but she's quite alright.
I really feel pity and sympathy around people taking this enjoyable class yet with horrible professor. She's extremely a tough grader which ruins your interest .Maybe the biggest mistake one can have done in his entire life is taking this professor. Life is hard and she even makes it harder by demanding a lot of efforts yet still worthless to her.
A passionate art history professor but there were too many assignments & quizzes. There was a quiz & an assignment every week. Lots of essays. Grading criteria were unclear. Some of the lectures were hard to follow as most of the PowerPoint slides were just photos with no key descriptions of the art. But there were extra credits to help our grades.
If you do not like lectures, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Each class was just about 2 hours of talking with no info on the slideshow to read along. A lot of group work and a quiz in every single class. Get ready to study and pay attention like never before because names and dates are important! Overall, super boring!!!
Very uninspiring and unhelpful instructor. She hates it when you need to speak to her. The weekly quizzes are all guesswork. Guessing is a common theme at Pasadena City College. You will save money on textbooks as she provides very long PDF texts to read before the class meeting. Computers or cell phones are required during class.
Professor Andres, makes art history, exciting, interesting, and you realize how relevant it is to all of human history. She loves dates, pay attention to time periods and in identifying which style of art came from that time because there's a quiz every week on identifying art. Amazing teaching style, wouldn't take from any other professor.
While the info she provided in her online course was genuinely interesting, by no means does she grade lightly. Honestly, with a lot of the essays it feels as it's a english class rather than a Art History class, and she grades tough. Follow the rubric for a decent score at worst. You'll learn, but you need to put in the effort to keep your gradeUp
Professor Andres is a passionate art history professor. I enjoyed watching her lectures, which she keeps short. I only had a problem with her organization on canvas. The due dates didn't always align with what the instructions detailed. If you take her class, keep a watchful eye on the assignments and their due dates.
