This Lady was nice, however she is known for her strange and complicated Story Problems. All I can say is that if you work hard and put the time in, ask for more help either in Problem session, or office hours you will do just fine. She is a stickler for puncuality!
good teacher, is very willing to help you with problems.
Awful, if you are a 4.0 university student, you'll get a 3.0 in this class. She tests on material she barely or doesn't mention in class. To emphasize a point she'll test you on it first to scar you, think you won't forget then. Also, she doesn't budge when it comes to getting some points back on an assignment, even if you more than deserve them.
This teacher is not an Organic chemistry teacher, she is a general Chemistry teacher which she admits to. Her tests are hard and if she had to take her tests she would fail. If she gives a 'take home' test the answers are not found in the text and are not on class notes. She gets off on embarrassing students who ask questions in class. She sucks.
After one week of having this woman talk down to us and treat us like kindergarten kids (I'm a college graduate) I switched to another teacher. She knows her basic chem, but giggles, squeeks and squeals as if she's trying to entertain little children. I could have earned an A from her, but don't think I could have tolerated her attitude.
horrible at everything, she never wants to help nor does she give anyone the time of day.
This instuctor was HORRIBLE! She is the worst professor I've ever taken. She dosen't lecture! She tries to get the class to teach itself by giving out group projcets and using class time to figure stuff out. Then when you go ask her a question, she tells you 3 groups must have tried first, while she sits and grades papers. & No answers 4 the prob
I worked extremely hard in this class and earned my grade. Anne was always available to answer any questions I had. Her lectures were easy to understand. The subject matter is difficult and requires a lot of work to master. Anne was very fair. This class is not for the lazy!
Good teacher, very difficult but very fair. Always available to help during office hours or via email. Not a teacher for lazy students, but highly recommended for those who really want to learn the material. I've never heard her dumb down a lecture or had her treat us like children--except those who behaved like children.
This teacher hasn't realized she's teaching adults and not kindergarteners. She giggles, squeals, and talks babytalk to the class while treating them like they know nothing and need to be taught how to read, do math, take notes, etc. She knows her material, is well-organized, and writes fairly decent tests, but her classroom manner stinks.
If you plan on taking a class with her, you better be able to learn from a book. She's really hard, and her lectures seemed really short to me despite having a mountain of things to cover. She tries to get her students to learn from one another, but the problem with that is that nobody else knows what's going on.
Her lectures are pretty useless. Read the book. She's so vague that its pretty much useless to come to class sometimes. Its so much stuff covered in one lecture.
If you want to be treated like a little kid then I would without a doubt sign up for a class with Ann. She teaches on what she thinks is important then when you go to take the final you are not prepared. If you are failing she says,"its ok you are diong fine! You can always drop the class by the 6th week!" You should never say that to a student.
Anne's class is very challenging. Her quizzes are full of very hard story problems that only a chem major can figure out. She spends a lot of time on certain topics then puts something totally different on the tests, stuff that she spent little or no time lecturing about. Not a good experience in her class!
Anne is not my favorite instructor that is for sure. It is bad enough when the students don't understand the concept, but then she starts giggling and making other childish sounds. It might be just me, but she is working my last nerve. She is not encouraging and often mentions that students can just drop the class.
If you do all your homework problems from the textbook and did them right, you will still get a crappy grade on your test, because she puts super complicated questions on tests & makes ?'s worth so many pts, that if u miss 1, you fail. Class avg for our final was around 60/150!! That just shows there's something wrong with her teaching abilities!!
Seems super nice, but really doesn't seem to want to get to know her students. I think Anne would be a better instructor if we didn't spend every Monday doing group work. I hate it when she says "tell your neighbor" rather than actually teaching the topic. Her quizzes consist of 2-3 questions worth 25 pts. She is pretty good about partial credit.
I think that Anne was a good teacher, it was a challenging class but I definitely learned a lot.
Very short lecture... basicly you have to "learn" everything from textbook yourself. The class feels like a P/S class, you do your homework yourself and if you have question she will answer it during the class like it is a lecture... You should take this class with Steve or Mark.
She is a very hard grader , but very willing to work with you if you show her respect.
Anne is a great instructor. If you do your homework, and put in the time, you will be fine. Anne makes herself available if you need help.
hard grader, quite challenging, but you really know your stuff when your done.
Look if you are there to slide by, not surprising you will get frustrated by her bc she makes you TRY! She is beyond helpful. Always timely in returning assignments, open office hours-most importantly, she is open to adjusting her structure to make it smoother for her students, people lets not forget she is human, perfect no, great teacher YES.
I think Anne is a great instructor. She did class evaluations the first quarter & actually made changes/explained her thoughts behind her assignments. How many teachers are constantly trying to improve themselves for their students? She is not an easy instructor, but if you ask for help, she is willing to give it. Be sure to keep up on your work!
Had her for 161 & 162. I enjoyed her class more the second quarter. She changed her lecture style to match what the class perfered which was amazing. Grades somewhat hard, but chemistry hard. Took the time in office hours to help me, a slower student, understand concepts and for that I am indescribably thankful.
Anne is a fun and helpful teacher. Hope all teachers are like her.
Anne is a "student's" teacher. She wants you to succeed and accomplishes this by giving her every effort to help you in doing so. I went into this class just hopping for a C because I'd heard how hard Chemistry was, but now I'm hopefully getting a B/B+. I wish she could be my teacher for all my science classes!
I really enjoyed Ann's class. The material is tough, but she is fair and makes herself available to anyone who has put in the necessary effort. It is not a Humanities class, and you have to work hard for your grade, but she does a great job relating the information. I would take another class taught by her in a heartbeat.
Anne expects you to read everything at home, and teach yourself. Every morning she has on average ten students waiting at her office for help. You spend class time doing problems with other students, and helping the people that didn't read the book. I would recommend taking this course with Steve Powell, not Anne.
So rude. So evil. Never take a class from Anne. I took 161 and 162 from her... WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF? Seriously, just don't do it. Don't even consider it. I am a good student, and even with the help of my uw/ucsd chem grad friend, Anne wouldn't give me better than a C+ (even when .1% away from a B- for final grades). She is a total witch.
Anne is a very decent instructor. You get points from a couple of different assignments like labs and pre-labs, group activities, quizes, and exams. It helps you get extra points so that you aren't only graded on exams and quizes. I do feel like we could have used more lecture time, however, the way the schedule is designed, makes it a easier.
I took Chem121 from Anne during SUM'10 which was my very first quarter in college. Chem is incredibly hard but I felt like Anne made every effort possible to help her students. She is very fair and when I spoke with her regarding my test anxiety, she had plenty of positive feedback and ideas to put me at ease. I'd take a class w/her again for sure!
Anne is a very good teacher, the material is hard and she expects everyone to be adults and accomplish their own study time necessary to fully understand the material she has gone over. She is available and willing to help anyone that has reached out. She doesnt put up with tardiness or laziness, so work hard for your grade and you'll get it!
I was a Chem&121 repeat and really disliked my previous instructor. I really liked Anne! She was always willing to help and answer questions, plus she was really good at explaining things in a way that made me get it. I highly recommend her and wouldn't hesitate to take another Chemistry class with her.
I was really nervous to take chem, but Anne was great & I ended up enjoying the subject. Yes, it was tough, because it's a difficult subject! Anne is great at explaining things in various ways, & will always make sure you understand the material. Quizzes/tests are difficult, but she grades fairly. I'd definitely take another class from her!
She's a good teacher during lectures and seems nice until you ask her a question. Then she becomes very rude and sarcastic to the point where I don't even want to go into office hours to ask for help. I actually enjoy chemistry but not from her, Basically it's a day of lecture, another day of lecture w/group activities or a quiz/exam, and a lab.
Anne was great! I would certainly take her for another chem course. The work is hard and time consuming.Plan on the tutoring center. But she will spend extra time if you want it. Highly recommend her! NOTE: Take advantage of her office hours, especiallt for homework help!
Inconsistant with her math and use of sig figs. Take her class at your own risk. She is not the best or easiest teacher in the world. If you are stuck taking her, study, study, study and study. Oh, did I mention study. Then practice, practice, and practice some more. Good luck
Unhelpful, uninterested in students, unclear and not thoughtful when it comes to explanations. Never again, worst Chem teacher yet.
Very hard teacher. In the beginning of the quarter she divided us into study groups. From there we had to pretty much teach ourselves the information. If you didn't like the study group, then you had to deal with it. She didn't seem to know a lot of the info and had to keep asking other teachers for help. TAKE HER CLASS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Very horrible teacher. Lectures are basically useless. Although the class may be easy if you're smart, none of that credit goes to the teacher. Do not expect to actually learn anything from this instructor. Very inconsistent explanations of the concepts. She doesn't know the material very well herself.
The quizzes and exams are extremely hard. It is nearly impossible to guess what she will test you on. Most questions/problems ask you to explain why you chose the answer--and if you're bad at explaining, expect to fail. She also grades lab reports in extreme detail. She does her best to help students when they ask, but she still isn't that helpful.
Studying for tests doesn't help, because the test questions are harder than anything we did in homework and aren't based on any of the material we covered. She hardly gives partial credit. Horrible at explaining anything. She's really nice, just not a great instructor. If you can help it, don't take her.
I dropped the class but it had nothing to do with this teacher,I was overloaded and I found out I did not need this class for my major. The quarter I had her she seemed like a great teacher, with a nice sense of humor.Word of advice though do not take chem 162 at the same time as Statistics or calc.
This was by far the hardest class I've taken. The material itself is difficult, but with her as a "teacher" its near impossible. She hardly taught at all, she just put us in groups and basically expected us to learn it on our own. If you have to take this class take it with anyone but her!
She basically gives the same lectures as her online tegrity videos. On the quizzes and homework there are countless questions and topics that she has not provided examples or explanations of. she s unwilling to help students when the computer marks correct answers as incorrect. Horrible support for students and horrible teacher.
I am not impressed with Brackett. She occasionally lacks overall professionalism in the way she addresses students, first of all. She spoke to me rudely & she announced very loudly in class how poorly one student was doing. She makes many errors and quizzes often have Qs involving material not covered by lecture. Do not recommend!
Would not have gotten an A if I had not gotten outside tutoring. Felt as if I was taking an independent study where I was required to teach myself all material. Computer often marked correct answers incorrect and Anne was unwilling to help. Lectures were informative and didn't cover test material. HW Q's copied from other teacher's lesson plans.
I do not recommend Anne. She is a very nice person, but does not have a good knowledge of what she is teaching. I found that when I asked her questions she would often have to look up or ask other teachers to help her find the answer. Her lectures did not cover the same material on the test so I found it difficult to study for tests and quizzes.
By far the hardest and worst class ever! The teacher was not helpful at all and acted as though we were a complete inconvenience for her. Not willing to help if you are doing poorly. Rude comments were made towards the class many times. If you want and F, take this class.
I found Anne to be a very frustrating teacher. She was a kind person, but her quizzes and exams consistently had different types of questions than were taught and reviewed in the lectures and the homework sets. Unwilling to regrade tests that were graded incorrectly by the computer.
I am extremely frustrated with Anne as a teacher and if i had not taken chem in high school i wouldn't be passing. She is unwilling to help. Went to office hours for help and a few of the answers she helped me reach were incorrect. Anne is not here for the last week of class but expects us to do 75 problems of unlearned material. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Hasn't mastered Chem or teaching. Makes errors during demonstrations ? okay for humans, not for college profs. Office hours = meh. Moves too fast, so class comprehension = poor. She demonstrates easy work then uses harder book assign/quizzes, so quizzes & HW do not reflect practice. Final = conceptual > mathematical, fyi. Read book, teach self. <3
I would NOT recommend this teacher. She wasn't helpful and when asked for help she would give you incorrect information. Homework is copied from other teachers lesson plans (see online). I think the highest grade in my class was a B- or C+. Was there everyday and got a tutor. At the end of the quarter was .4% away from a C and she wouldn't pass me.
Brackett was the worst teacher I have ever had. Short dumb downed lectures online with multiple mistakes, no lecture in class just group work and problems. Stuff she taught was at a lower level than hw and quiz/ test expectation. Not helpful, made you feel as though she had given you plenty of resources and you should just try harder.
I am currently taking this teacher and so far she seems great. I went into her office hours and she sat there the entire time to help me. The non mathematical material is a little harder to swallow so to speak but so far she's really great. Our quiz matched up really well with what she has been teaching.
Very nice teacher, class is extremely demanding so don't take if you aren't willing to stay up many a late night cramming for tests. posts online vids and other helpful recourses...but tests and quizzes were still extremely hard. if it wasn't for the standardized chem test, I would've failed!! class is passable, but be prepared to work for it.
I really liked this teacher. She can explain things very well and while the subject material is tricky, she tries to help you out with the tests. She doesn't grade too hard but at the same time, wants to make sure you understand. Use her office hours, the more she sees your face, the better (but ask smart questions) and don't procrastinate.
Just an awful class. The online version did not match up to the new books. She made many references to older books. Wanted to meet her for help, she offered me five minutes of her time. Wait for better teacher!
I loved Anne! She was amazing at explaining things and giving good examples and she always either assigns or goes over in class all the stuff that is on the test!
I have been a A/B student my whole life. I took Anne's class as a pre-req for the RN program. SHE WAS HORRIBLE. She is no help, rude, and doesn't know what she is teaching. Seriously, take this class at another school than come back. I hired a tutor who specilized in CHEM and they were literally disguisted by Anne. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Anne contradicts herself often; stating a rule is absolute, then throws the one exception to that rule onto a test without ever introducing it or explaining how to spot it! She's rude, dismissive, and doesn't care if you have a problem. I dropped her class. She's not worth a drop in anyone's GPA. Why is she teaching? She's horrible.
I had no experience with a chemistry class. She taught me to loath the subject. I am no stranger to working hard, but studying 30 hours for a test just for a F grade? I dropped her class. She is confusing, unhelpful, and unpleasant. I hope my next professor will prove to be more adept at TEACHING instead of handing out Fs like candy! HORRIBLE!
Anne was a difficult teacher, didn't respond to emails for 1-2 days, only taught out of tegrity videos which had some wrong info and were not correct. Tests and HW were way harder than the lecture vids. Exams were even harder and more complex with no warning. Very secretive on what is on exam WILL NOT give any clues what to expect on exams.
I found Anne willing to be helpful, but she only knows one way to say something--the way that makes sense to her. She knows the material, and expects her students to know it as well. I'm a History major, so this was unrealistic for me. Learning a lot, but this class alone is a full-time job.
High school chemistry was so much easier then this class. I had a tough time following a long and a lot of teaching myself. I will be retaking this class with a different teacher.
There are so many flaws in her class. She teaches of these tegrity videos which has a lot of mistakes on it.Her lectures does NOT prepare you for her quizzes, exams and the final. She constantly needs to be reminded to update grades. Her homework is not even hers.. They are copied multiple choice questions. Do NOT take her class. Not a good teacher
Her online lectures are confusing and had some wrong information on it, she gives you the most basic examples but when it comes to test and quizzes, Anne gives you more complex problems. That being said, her lectures don't really prepare you. She makes you do these group works in class where you she kinds off expect you to learn the material.
If you are stupid do not take this class. If you have a general interest in chemistry you will do well in her class. She is very helpful and answered every question i had thoroughly. Very nice person and will challenge you to be better!
Definitely my favorite Chem instructor at EvCC. She was really helpful at office hours, and seemed to genuinely care about her students. I don't like Chemistry but I liked her class.
uses tegrity talks a lot.
Anne has online lectures posted online to watch. I watched one video and that gave me my worst quiz score yet. I do better just reading and taking notes. She doesnt really teach but instead gives questions she knows full well you dont know and then asks you to discuss them as a group, which wastes 30 mins, finally gives answers with one minute left
Terrible teacher. 50 min time frame for 200 point tests. questions are a lot harder than the book questions. Do not take this teacher! If you dont have a job or kids then by all means go for it. There is about 4 things due each week. Its a full time job. Def not a INTRO chem class.
I'm never good at chemistry but I'm pretty fine with this class. All i do is show up for class on time everyday ( 50 mins) and i watch her online lectures sometimes, that helps me a lot. I like her make everything clearly. In that way, we know what should we learn for the test. If you have any question, she's welcome you come to her office :")
Anne, was a big help in me even passing Chem 121. I put so much time into the class, and she put forth just as much in helping me understand the subject matter. I think she is great. If you do all the work, eg. Hw online test and such you will pass.
Anne was honestly one of the best instructors I have ever had. Her class is not easy, but if you do all of the work then you can definitely get an A. She is always willing to help and is happy to answer any questions you might have.
Anne is a very thorough teacher. Gives a lot of work, so be sure to stay organized or it will get overwhelming. She updates grades quickly, which is really nice. Overall, she was a good teacher but really does have an intense class. Stay on top of it and you will do fine.
Chemistry is hard to understand, its basically learning concepts in a new language, it is going to take a lot of studying to do well in this course. That being said, having Anne as my Intro to Chem professor really helped translate chemistry into a comprehensible subject, she's really compassionate, but strict.
She won't correct online homework errors even though she has the power to and it affects your grade. She's snappy and moody. Her lectures are fast and the information is unorganized. The questions on the final are nothing like what is taught because it's standardized. If you're starting fresh and havent been to school for a while, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Her grading is a bit messy because she starts from a 100% then by the end of the class you are almost left with a B/B- which at the start makes you take her class for granted. I would suggest that if you are going to take her class really dedicate time for this subject if you want to get a high grade because its gonna be the survival of the fittest
I took her class in summer quarter, she put eveyone into the group which is perfect, and she gives online lecture ato solve the problem, no reason to get below than B *she let you see periodic table in exam *I'm ESL student but I can understand what she said. Do you?
Loved her class! She has lecture videos that you can watch the night before so you are prepared for lecture! These videos will help you get an A in her class. He quizzes and exams are super easy as long as you do the HW, book problems, and participate in class, attendance is really important! Stay determined and work hard!
Anne isn't a very good teacher, she gives 0's for small mistakes, she gives no partial credit for homework and quizzes, does for exams. Will not accept late work at all. exams are easy as long as you study the material. Her long lectures were confusing but her short videos will save you. Granted, her exam prep module is extremely helpful.
She has a flipped class, which means that instead of in-class lecture, you have to watch her 1-2 hour videos at home before class. On class day, you solve problems and discuss them with your table and ask her questions. She calls on People so you better be prepared. Tests are a little hard. I don't recommend her if you've never took chemistry.
I am not very good at chemistry, so I would ask for help and she wouldn't explain it to me clearly. I was really confused throughout the quarter. Besides it being confusing and a lot of work, the labs were pretty fun.
Anne is a ROCKSTAR. She acknowledges that chemistry is hard and is truthfully, her class is a hard one. She really makes you work for the grade, but that being said, Anne is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable professors I've had. Very clear lectures, lots of class practice problems, very good at answering questions. 10/10 would take again.
Best chemistry teacher I've ever had! A lot of people say she's tough, which is true, but she also goes out of her way to help you understand the material, which she readily admits is tough. Ask for help; you'll get it! Her videos are awesome, and allow you to go back as many times as you need to review the material. Very innovative and excellent!
Ann is Amazing! After reading reviews here i was scared of taking this class but didn't have another option, class isn't easy if you don't put your time which she lets you know what i like about her is she goes out of her way to help what you don't understand, as human we are ready to blame our mistake to others, that been said ,good-luck!
Ann is super nice, she lets you know what to expect, do your homework , participate and you'll be fine, i would take any class with her, best chem teacher
Anne was very present online. She even had a weekly thread so we could ask our questions and actually get them answered! There were multiple experiments that were very time consuming, but it was convenient that I could do them in my kitchen. You have to be on campus for the exams. Do the homework and you'll pass no problem.
Anne was amazing, she made me LOVE chemistry, i took her class online and i loved it. I had the chance to pause lectures and take great notes, she replies to emails incredibly fast and i really appreciated that, she is easy to talk to. there is one HW, one lab, and one quiz do each week. This class was a full time job!
Anne was great, and I hate chem! I loved how her class was because she did lectures online and you can listen to it at any time so you don't have to worry about taking bad notes on a certain day. There are quizzes each week but if you ask questions and listen well, you'll do great! I used to spam her with email questions and she quickly replied!
Anne was AWESOME!!! She helped me like chem. Online lectures to take notes on your own time. Will go over same thing 5 times if need be. Very helpful. Very accessible. Answers questions thoroughly. Cares for the students (and it shows!) Would take ANY chem class with her, even organic chem, if she were to teach it. Definitely recommend her!
If you're quite good at calculating, that's necessary. She gives a long video, some short videos to explain her lecture clearly, so in class we practice for examples. She's kind of TOUGH IN LAB (suitable clothes). Don't get mad if you can't get what she explains in class, let's watch videos. Easy pop-quiz, not effective if you don't get that.
Loved Anne! She made me love chemistry when I despised it! She's homeworked based but I love her. She will do anything to help you! Her tests aren't hard if you study and do the homework!
Anne was super helpful. It's definitely not an easy class, but she was very approachable when you needed help.
I wouldn't recommend. The class is difficult, as it is Chemistry. It was an okay class until the final state exam. Anne does not prepare you in the slightest for it. She'll give you a practice test and worksheets, but they don't help. I understood a third of the questions, a third were in the textbook (we don't go over) and a third I'd never seen.
I would not recommend. Her teaching style is difficult to follow and she is not very helpful when you have questions . She also does not prepare you for the state final exam. She also makes public after exams how many people received which grade. Very inappropriate. For being a chem 121 she expects that you should already know everything.
WONDERFUL TEACHER.
Anne is a good teacher, she make this incredibly hard class fun and she is always willing to help out and explain things.
Get ready to teach yourself if you take her class. Her lectures are online and then you come to class for her to give "practice problems" while she sits and does nothing for half the time. She responds quickly on canvas but is the kind of person to not answer your question directly. She really makes chem even more confusing than it already is.
Anne online class is hard, but she does make herself available online and to meet outside of class. I would recommend watching Tyler Dewitt chemistry videos. Homework & quizzes didnt match. Its a really tough class be prepared to spend 3 hours min. For her online class a day. She does care about her students, try to take her class face to face.
This is not an easy class but Professor Brackett is great. I took it during summer so it was 6 week course which I don't recommend. I love the reverse classroom. First time I'd heard of it but i now wish all science teachers did this.
Took Chem 121 ol with Anne. She is a great teacher and makes Chemistry easy to understand and the labs are interesting. It's homework heavy. Expect 2 hours a day. The quizzes were easier than the homework usually. There is a weekly discussion board you have to participate in, which really helps when stuck on problems or understanding the material.
I took Chem 121 from Prof. Brackett. I really liked her as a teacher. She was very helpful and patient and always willing to answer any questions. I will say it is a difficult class especially if you struggle with chemistry to begin with. Do all of the homework and read everything in the textbook. Study really hard, and you should be fine.
Anne Brackett is a really great teacher. Chemistry is a really tough subject and I struggled the entire glass. I took the course online but all her lecture are provided online which is great! If you are going to take the class and want to pass it you must dedicate at least 2-3 hours a day to it.
Be ready to spend 2-3 hours outside of class on this subject. Online homework can easily take two hours alone, and video lectures take about another hour. Her class is a flipped style, so you definitely need to watch the lectures before you go to class. She is really good about answering any questions. Hard class but can be done if you try hard.
Difficult content, be ready to put in a lot of time. Explains concepts/leads you through problems so you understand instead of just telling you the answer which helped A TON on the final. Took in summer so very intense but doable, just be certain to read text/watch lectures beforehand as this is a flipped class. A study group is invaluable!
Anne is an amazing instructor. The subject matter is just extremely difficult! Shes always available to answer questions. Lectures are super informative. In the online class, you get multiple chances on quizzes and homework. Her review sessions are gold. She works with everyone individually on their struggles. 10/10 times, I would take her again!
I think she is a decent teacher but of course its Chem which is a difficult subject for most including myself. I took this class online which I do not recommend but due to my schedule that was my only option. I struggled thoughout the entire class and was not sure if I was going to pass. Final is closed textbook no notes.
Anne is an amazing instructor. If you are willing to work and use every resource she provides you can do well, but it is not an easy A if that is what you are hoping for online. You need to commit to many hours per week. Her video lectures are gold, use them. Ask questions and be involved. She is hilarious, effective, and helpful.
Given that I took the online chemistry course, I did not end up interacting with Anne a lot. However, the times that I did--such as during the ZOOM sessions (which are required)--I thought that she was kind and insightful. She also provides video lectures which help. If you keep up with your reading and do the assignments, you should do fine.
I took the online chem course and it was very easy. There is a lot of homework but I just did it all in one night and it took me about 4 hours a week! More if you invested time into it!
She's nice and all but will not give you extra credit to pass the class. It doesn't matter if you pay your tuition fee out of pocket.
Lack of communication makes it difficult to feel heard by Anne. My lab was blatantly copied and when I emailed, she never responded. Review sessions are required, be prepared to feel stupid when you ask a question, even if you're right. I passed chemistry before with 98%. Time frames for zoom sessions are not considerate of the students with jobs.
Anne is an AMAZING professor and EvCC is very lucky to have her. There is homework and a quiz every week, read your chapter ahead and watch all the lecture videos and you should be fine. This class is a challenge, but Anne makes it easy by providing tutoring, and discussion boards where you can interact with classmates to ask questions.
I was very disappointed with this class, I knew it would be hard. I do not recommend her. No one finished the final exam, too many calculation questions and no time to complete them, and her "curve" is a joke. When I emailed her with questions about class work she emailed back with snarky remarks. Very unprofessional. Pick a different teacher!!
Gives detailed feedback and responds quickly. Expect to spend every spare minute working on homework/ reading to understand the material (It's a tough class). Consistently reach out when you feel unsure for best results. There is a lot of work, and I highly recommend attending zoom sessions (Find a way to pencil in daily) and the tutoring center.
I liked Anne and respected her as a teacher until we were thrown a curve ball for our final. When the pandemic hit we were the first chem class to have to take the final online and she made it impossible to even finish half of it. Nobody finished!! Also better have a good lab group because your grade depends on their work and she grades those hard!
No partial credit. Quiz homework pre lab and lab every. Dont take 3 classes with hers if you take another class make sure its really easy! Lots of anxiety from this class. What I didnt like is there is no need to make a class harder than it already is. She makes its hard. exam is mainly math so make sure you know the math well! No extra credi
This class was unnecessarily difficult for an entry level Chem class. At the beginning of the term, she said to receive a "C" you would need to spend 2 hours every day (7 days a week) studying the material. There would be days I would spend 10 hours on the material and still do a subpar job. There's no wiggle room. I highly do not recommend.
No extra credit, no partial credit. confusing wording on questions, you will study for 4+ hours/day. Not clear on how to study (opposite of what she says). NOT practical on due dates. homework due Tues, quiz Thurs, pre-lab and lab Fri, plus you HAVE to be active on the discussion board. Take her class? take it by its self or with 1 EASY class.
I took the accelerated 8 week class during Summer 2020. I would have rather taken it during a normal quarter. It's a challenging subject so yes, there is a lot of work to prepare you for the material. She offered some extra credit. Anne is very caring; she genuinely wants you to succeed in her class. I wish I could have more classes with her!
Good lord, I took chem in the summer and that was horrible, yet Anne wanted everyone to pass the class and after noticing a majority of her class had failed a couple of quizzes she readjusted her criteria. She offered extra credit near the quarter. She is really nice and wants people to pass. Zoom meetings are mandatory as you have to participate
Best teacher.
I took Professor Bracketts live stream class this fall. Anna is an amazing professor who takes the time to help students understand chemistry as well as give extra credit because she truly cares about her students passing. Chemistry is not an easy class but if you truly want to pass her class go to her office hours and practice whenever you can.
She thinks I'm only taking her class. She gave me 2 Homeworks per week (like lab+homework). And It takes a long time to do all Homeworks. Sometimes her homework will not explain the problem correctly, and it will make you very confusing. If you use canvas for the quiz, you should put your answer accurately. Even you put space, you can not getscore
Most inflexible teacher I've taken and unapologetic for it. No wiggle room on anything. Wouldn't fix my grade cause "I got a good enough grade". Chapters due monday 8am lots of homework on the weekend. Multiple quizzes a week. Says needed to spend 14+ hours to get a C. Avoid this teacher!!! Is possible to get a good grade but will hate chem.
I loved Professor Brackett! She is a great teacher and I can't wait to take another class with her!
I was pleasantly surprised with how well this class went, considering science is not my forte. Brackett's teaching style in office hours, along with her recordings, were concise, relatable and presented in a manner that lead to increased understanding and interest in the subject. She was accessible for questions or concerns and encouraging.
Super strict with grading and never gives partial credit. She explains examples too quickly and if you go to ask a question she doesnt help much with her answer. Avoid this class with her at all costs if you can! Her idea of teaching a topic is a 5-12 minute video that you cant hardly hear from 2005 and then your on your own.
NEVER take a class from Anne!! I was hospitalized in the middle of the semester for very serious surgery complications. I was very close to losing my life. Yet, she refused to give me a chance to catch up. She wouldn't let me get anything above 50%. I am an all A student and she set me up for failure. She is the WORST teacher I have ever had!!!
She posed to be your friend and spends a lot of time explaining lectures and procedures. But her way of teaching is extremely complex and the pattern of setting up the quizzes in canvas was devastating. not many opportunities to improve grades. some weird lab works needs to be completed in groups, if one person made mistake the whole group suffers.
During orientation to this class I thought to myself "what have I done". This class is incredibly difficult, requires a lot of hours every single day in order to do well. Anne was an exceptional teacher. You can tell she really cares about her students. Quizzes are really hard in this class, no partial credit. She values participation.
Do not take this class thinking it will be easy to glide through. Requires a lot of outside studying time, weekly zoom meetings with lab groups.
Deserves the bad reviews. Ridiculously hard homework that makes no sense. The amount of breakdowns Ive had over this class was not worth the credits.
I should have dropped the class in the first mandatory zoom meeting when she told everyone in the class that she is "awesome". Has major control issues and has no care about you actually learning. Her videos make you want to fall asleep and her quizzes do not go off of what she is teaching you. If you ready to want to drop out, then take her class
Mandatory meetings that aren't stated when signing up for the class. Doesn't respect your time. Quizzes have material, not in the textbook. Will put questions on the test without giving a guide on how correctly format them. Expect you to leave work for a meeting during normal work hours. Bad teacher overall, save yourself and find another teacher.
Worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't actually teach. Her video's "explaining" the material doesn't actually do anything but confuse you cause she talks in circles. Mandatory meetings. Gives zero consideration for working students but expects you to give her your 100% devotion. You need to stay on top of her grading for mistakes. Do not take
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. Does not care about students and lots of work for just one class. Doesn't grade quizzes by hand so you can get things wrong for the slightest things. Honestly would never take her again.
This is NOT your typical online class. BE READY to be BUSY, and work on this class at least, 2-4 hrs everyday! I don't agree with all the awful reviews Anne has! This is a very challenging class to take while working full-time, but that is NOT the instructors fault! Anne does care about her students, I actually like Chemistry no, and Anne :)
I have retaken this class with Anne. My previous experience wasnt great, but she has changed a lot of the class that has made a huge difference. She is very willing to work with you. She offers a few different extra credit opportunities. The class is heavy and requires you to be very active online. But she has done a great job to help us succeed.
Professor Brackett was very caring and communicative. This class was hard, but she really wants you to succeed and she gives a lot of opportunity to do so! High work load as there is a lot to learn in Chemistry but I found that Anne was very helpful and available for questions. Participation matters! The office hours were super helpful for me.
Professor Anne takes her time answering student questions in-depth and pretty quickly as well! I loved having a professor like Anne who made her expectations clear and was easily accessible, I would definitely recommend taking her class! Homework is graded on completion, and the discussion board/videos immensely help out to succeed in the class!
This is my second time taking this course and it has gotten better. Still, this class is ridiculous and so is Anne a lot of the time. She has improved but sometimes it felt like she wanted you to fail. If you're taking this class and trying to get a B just know you'll have to put your all into it. I don't recommend taking this class with her.
anne has changer her class, she had lots of bad reviews but it looks like she did something about them because her class is hard but totally doable. recommend splitting the video lectures throughout the week and labs too. some labs are definitely confusing but she gives feedback. may want to work over the weekend though bc it takes a lot of time
This is a tough class but Anne is sweet and fair. Chem was hard for me and there is a lot of work weekly for a 100-level class. There are 2 tests a week, but the 2nd test is a 2nd attempt at the first test. The best grade is saved. Canvas is picky about how you enter quiz answers so make sure you read the "how to enter things in canvas" form.
Although the course is tough, Brackett really seems to care for her students and even provides office hours multiple times a week. The labs were easy to understand and follow, and papers on them weren't too challenging if you understood the information from the lecture. This course does take a lot of time though, so be ready to sit down and study.
Two chances on quizzes to improve your grade every week, labs are worked on in groups so that helps a ton, HW is bases on effort/completion. Anne was amazing!! 100% would recommend taking CHEM with her.
Anne is brilliant! She is caring, responsive, supportive; she has all of the qualities and characteristics it takes to be a wonderful instructor. Her expectations are clear, and fair, her course is very well organized, and she truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I couldn't imagine a better instructor to have learned from. :)
If you watch the lectures, take notes and do all the work, it's definitely doable to get a good grade (at least a B). I'm SLOW with science and I even had my husband help me out. We noticed the only reason why my grades were low were because I wasn't submitting work on time but she explains things well. She's fair and gives 1/2 credit for late work
mandatory class orientation about the same things we worked all week on.
She asks way too much for an intro 100 class. She doesn't set up canvas in an intuitive way, half the time you have to search and search for something you need and its some random link on another page. She only wants you to use her conversion tables so finding answers is very long and roundabout and if you use other conversions, it doesn't count.
Very condescending via online assignments. Homework was very long and way too hard for only being graded on completion. Quizzes were worded in a way to purposely trick students. Not organized well on canvas. Examples of the same thing often did not match each other on the same assignment, so you can't reference at all. Orientation was a waste.
She impressed me by how terrible she was able to set up her Canvas. Have to go through multiple pages to find resources need for homework and quizzes. Locks assignments and quizzes so that they can not be done early if you have a tight schedule. Can only use her unit conversion chart on assignments and quizzes. I do not recommend this class.
This prof lack of organization and communication skills is nothing short of appalling. Assignments are often given with vague instructions, leaving students bewildered and frustrated. The professor's inability to respond to emails in a timely manner exacerbates this problem, as students are left in a constant state of uncertainty about their cours
Very condescending, very confusing instructions, terrible canvas set up, A LOT of work for an intro class and where homework is graded on completion not correctness, quizzes are meant to make student's fail, directions are incredibly useless and confusing. After 22 years of teaching you would think there would be better teaching.
Confusing instructions, confusing quizzes, assignments were graded on completion not quality work, feedback was degrading, and we weren't taught any science that Youtube couldn't have taught more understandably. The labs did not use any kind of scientific method. If this is your first science class, it'll put a bad taste in your mouth for science.
The labs we are supposed to do have poor criteria, alot of uncontrolled variables, and vague instructions and then we are graded as incorrect if it doesn't coincide with what the professor wants our answers to be. This is a 100 level class and needs no prior experience then maybe the scientific method should be taught better. Don't take this class.
Responds rudely to students on discussion boards and assignment comments. Does not explain anything clearly. Has the students doing improper science, and grades harshly on mistakes that were made because of poor instruction. No leniency on misunderstandings caused by the professor's poor organization. This is a joke of a science class.
If we need to give up our hobbies, sacrifice our working/family hours and study 14+ hours a day on an entry level class then it is not the fault of the students when we fail, it is the unrelenting inflexibility of a harsh teacher. She talks to us like we are unintelligent children and not adults that outside of a classroom would be equal peers.
Not only does she make the content of a 100 level class very confusing and not friendly to people who have NEVER done chemistry before, she somehow makes the instructions for assignment confusing. Everything is too wordy, and poorly phrased. It's better to be direct and simple with instructions....and intro science.
This professor is extremely lazy if you look at how she sets up her class. All homework is graded on completion, not correctness. The labs are graded at the end of the quarter by yourself via "ungrading method". Her videos are short and confusing, so she uses the discussion board for students to teach each other.
Great instructor, clear instructions, cares about students.
When I say get ready to read, I mean get ready to teach yourself the material. She does not teach the topic well, and when clarification is asked, her explanations also do not make any sense. She will also give hard hypothetical situations to confuse intro chem students, so be prepared to fail. Worst teacher I have ever had.
Nothing made any sense, all the topics were confusing, teacher was confusing and rude. Shouldn't be allowed to be teaching if she was going to be so rude to students about a topic no one knew about in the first place. Waste of my time, effort and money.
By the end of the quarter, after putting in so much effort and still getting poor grades, I realized it wasn't the student's fault and I didn't care about the class anymore. I was so burnt out trying to satisfy a snarky teacher who was just setting us up to fail anyways. This isn't an intro class, it's a drain of time, money and health.
I was just trying to get a better understanding of chemistry as a hobby and thought that taking a community college class would be a great idea. I regret taking this class. It was extremely difficult, the labs and the current week's work didn't align on topic, and this isn't for beginners at all conceptually.
Monday- hwTuesday- quiz attempt 1Wednesday- lab group meeting Thursday-quiz attempt 2Friday-lab work and discussion posts due. She is tough on formatting and gets answers wrong so keep an eye out and email her. Go to her office hours or watch them online! That is what helped me pass. Do the extra credit opportunities! They are on participation.
Cons: The quizes are extremely difficult and lecture videos are poor quality. She's made mistkes on multiple quizes and the discussion board activity ends up being students teaching other students, with Anne agreeing or disagreeing to their post. Make sure you keep up in this class. Pro: She does give you 2 tries on quizes to get a better score.
Almost always mistakes on quizzes, so double-check if you are marked down. Prepare to do work almost every day of the week. Class material is outdated, posted her lecture videos 9 years ago, but officer hours, extra credit review sessions, and the weekly discussion boards for questions/answers help. You meet with your lab group each week on Zoom.
in person class = waste of time, she doesn't teach & even when you ask for help she goes around in circles, LOTS of self teaching. If you want to learn anything you'll have to attend her office hours plus tutoring even then it's a struggle. Her labs are worded poorly and the grading system doesn't make sense. you get 2 attempts on the quizzes tho.
VERY TOUGH GRADING. homework the grading is lenient, but it's the quizzes and lab reports that are graded very tough. You will have to meet with a lab group every Wednesday whether it's on Zoom or Google meets to complete a lab paper. Lectures are boring, and overall the class is tedious and dull.
She boasted to us that she had been teaching this class online for a long time, so you'd think she could set up her online class in an intuitive way. However this was not the case. Everything including her canvas layout was confusing and unorganized. Labs made no sense and were poorly formatted and she always had an attitude. Awful. AVOID.
quiz answers are incorrect if you have entered it into canvas with the incorrect format such as incorrect spacing.she will not give you the credit even after asking. Lectures are poorly explained plenty of mess ups throughout. With the way assignment are laid out/due you are expected to watch lectures, do lab, and due homework all on the weekends.
Quizzes on Canvas can reduce your grade in the class b/c she had made them nearly all written responses. If you format improperly, you are wrong and cannot make up points. Labs are also structured in a way I've never seen before. You have to fight for your grade and "convince" her why you deserve the grade you are aiming for. I don't recommend it
Very kind and engaging with students. We did a lot of practice questions during class to prepare for quizzes and exams. This class is difficult, and much studying is necessary. HW is great practice for quizzes and exams and is not overwhelming. Overall Anne is funny and awesome, very engaging with students, she gives a lot of material to help us.
CHEM121 with Professor Brackett can be challenging, but using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook and office hours can help you stay on top of the material. The quizzes require precision, so be meticulous in your formatting.
OH MY GOSH. She made chemistry very difficult to understand with her hypothetical questions. Labs, weekly quizzes with two chances (she takes the highest score), group labs, discussion boards, lab resubmissions, lectures, homework submitted by photo, and the textbook was free but I never used it. Used "..." at the end of every sentence???
We had someone in our group that did absolutely nothing but still got a good grade w/ us even after reporting it many times, which sucked. Get ready to do at least 5+ hours of chem every day. If you have questions expect a sassy response with a "..." at the end lowkey making you feel dumb for even asking, even though "questions are always welcome."
I accidentally gave her a difficulty 1 i meant 5 DONT TAKE HER SAVE YOURSELF
Had a very difficult lab group and had a difficult time with the labs in general. She has a very tough grading system. If your lab rubric is all green, you get an A. A yellow means a B+. You're dropped to a C if you get even one red. I liked how she gave us practice questions and 2 quiz attempts; it's the labs that drag you down (4 total labs).
I appreciated the practice questions she gave us and the ability to retake quizzes if needed. I did have a difficult time with labs, which are a huge part of your grade. You are allowed to edit and resubmit 2 labs but her grading system is a bit tricky. Some of her grading rubrics/standards were unclear and if you get one red, it's an automatic C.
for teaching a course as heavy as chem 121, she was very nice and engages with students. yes, there is lots of work but that should be expected given it's a college chem class. attendance was mandatory even though there was nothing being taught in person (all lectures were videos) which was kind of annoying, but overall a great professor!
Although it's an online class you will be meeting with a lab group via zoom every week. You get two quiz attempts but she rarely ever gives you points back. She is VERY strict on formatting rules. Overall this was such a hard course with assignments due nearly every day. She states you must spend 14 hours a week studying to receive just a C grade.
Final wasn't anything like the practice final she gave. Lecture videos (where you take notes for each chapter) have multiple mistakes in them and were recorded several years ago. You don't get any credit for showing work and you get marked as missing the entire question for extra spaces or missing spacing.
Great class, but very stern grading. If you don't input your answers correctly you won't get the point. Take the practice quizes vefore hand and study. Participation matters. You have to watch the lecture videos before coming to class. In class you'll practice what you have watched. Be prepared for the labs, it can be a bit confusing at times.
Pointless assignments, complicated instructions, HUGE workload for chem 121. Uses "..." to respond to questions to make you feel dumb. Class says it's online, but you will be required to meet w/ a lab group once a week. All learning comes completely from videos. You will get a question wrong if you mess up the format, even w/ the correct number.
Lectures are not helpful at all beware to use DR.B on YouTube if you're trying to pass her class very tough grader and I honestly think it's unnecessary her practice quizzes are nothing like the quizzes and the quiz questions are worded so odd she is not rude but I wish she was more considerate of the learning process of her students .
Anne is one of the rudest and uncaring professors I have “not” learned from because she doesn't teach multiple mistakes in lectures that are over 10 years old. (if you aren't prepared for an online course do not offer one) especially when many of your students are struggling and you do not help while canceling office hours and giving snarky remarks
Take any other professor if you can
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She would rather be your friend than teach you. Her remarks are snarky, going as far as saying my formulas were " crappy ". She answers your questions, with questions. I learned everything off youtube and any other sites than from Anne. She is sarcastic. The lectures dont make sense.
Online class is NOT asynchronous, despite the description. Hard grader, very condescending in tone, lots of lengthy assignments, and an expectation that you attend multiple sessions in-person without listing the course as hybrid. No sympathy from the Teacher when the discrepancy was brought up.
Was a bit frustrating getting used to the way she grades at the beginning but just pay attention to the feedback you receive. Make sure you are practicing a few times a week to get the concepts down. She is very response in the discussion board which is so helpful if you're lost. Email her if you are confused about a grade/concept.
She grades SUPER tough if your answer is off by rounding incorrectly by 1 decimal, off by 1 sig fig, or forgets to include units she'll mark the question wrong. Lecture videos are kinda helpful but I mostly used yt and ChatGBT for help. The way she grades the discussion board is actually insane no matter what I did she wouldn't give me a 6/6.
She's a tough grader who only allows her own notes and videos no outside sources. If you score above 70%, she may ask you to retake the test to prove you didn't cheat. The course is challenging, especially the labs, and she doesn't make it easy to pass. Her discussion board is really hard to get your full marks. Avoid this class .
I loved the teacher, she was kind and easy to talk to. She does her best to help you if you are stuck on a certain concept. Otherwise, this class is not easy, but you should do okay if you put a lot of effort into clearly understanding the concept. a lot of the stuff builds on the upcoming chapters. This class took up the most time.
Horrible teacher, asks for proof and may have you take a quiz again if you do “too good” on it, and the quizzes are extremely specific and you cannot miss a single space bar on it or else it won't count. absolutely no redos but a second chance a couple days later. pls do not take this class if you want to pass chem, she does not want people to pass
I took this class in Spring 2023. The quizzes & exams were really hard. She gives extra credit points if you attend her Zoom class sesh. The quizzes were challenging because you have to provide the exact answer, including correct significant figures. Even if your answer is close, it's still marked wrong if it's not precise. I still liked her class!
This professor seems set in her ways and uses outdated materials—some over 8 years old—with known errors she won't fix. When I asked how to improve my grade, she just said to watch the videos and to watch the office hour videos. The class is really tough, and I don't recommend taking it online.
This class literally takes up 90% of my time. She has us doing something everyday, she also includes busy work on top of everything. Layout of the labs are also confusing. I took biology online before and my labs were a breeze because my teacher was great.
The online quizzes were graded extremely specific, don't have a typo or you get the question wrong, even if it's obvious you know the answer. Like forgetting a backet (). Being forced to do 4 discussion comments was painful. Doing the final a week before finals week. The professor could be a little more lenient in grading and spacing the class.
Anne is a strict teacher, but that doesn't mean you won't like her. But if you have the opportunity, don't take her online class, take the in-person one. Chemistry with Anne is DIFFICULT if you're lazy like me. As long as you put in genuine effort in learning the concepts, conversions etc, you'll be fine.
You'll feel you want to drop this class, don't. Complete homework discussion boards each week. She gives clear criteria to earn full points. Make sure you pick a good lab group, this will be a big part of your grade. She comes off condescending, she isn't. She is just very matter of fact. If you care she does. Be ready to work harder then ever.
This professor will ruin ur science gpa. if you plan on working, dont. If you plan on having hobbies, dont, or anything outside of class. Her formatting is very strict, and nothing is ever really clear. The discussion board requires at least 4 replies of very good answers on different days to get full credit and labs don't have clear criteria.
Anne is the worst teacher i've ever had, you must do all of the homework assignments, you have 1 later pass, if you miss 2 days, you will fail the class. You don't do one discussion board, same thing. She gives assignments that can take 6-8 hours to do. She is very condescending, and not helpful. Worst professor i've ever had.
Anne is a hard grader, you need to make sure to follow her rubric when it comes to tests. However, I think the bad reviews you see of her are just a conflict of learning styles! I took the accelerated summer class, and she is the best prof. I have had at EVCC. She is extremely helpful and I really enjoyed her willingness to break things down.
Can be a tough grader, but she gives you formatting tools. we would watch the online lecture videos and practice what we learned in class. which was great for me! She is personable and very helpful when you have questions or need her to break down what you're stuck on. my only advice is to ask her any and all questions when you're stuck.
Portfolio grading only considers final and group work. Only paired with one individual for 4 person labs. Only gave feedback near the end of the quarter for labs that made up 50% of the grade, inconsistent and contradictions in syllabus QUIETEST INSTRUCTION VIDEOS ON PLANET EARTH MUST USE HEADPHONES week long discussion boards
If you've never had a science kind of brain DO NOT take her class. She is very nice but so picky it is impossible to pass, I was sick for two weeks so I just had to drop it. She also knows her grading is near impossible which makes it even more frustrating.
