Wonderful lecturer, very interesting. Easy tests- if you go to class and take good notes, you don't have to read the texts.
This teacher was a lot of fun. Her lectures kept me listening and I learned far more about history in her class than any other class I had taken before. The beauty of her class is you will remember the material years after he class is over.

good teacher. plus this class double counts for transfer. take it
her class is so interesting, the lectures are like listening to a storybook. Enthusiastic and energetic, you can tell she loves her job. Not a very easy grader, you have to keep up with readings and complete all assignments on time. no patience for idiots. VERY VERY picky on essays
She is a dynamic lecturer who makes the subject quite interesting.
lectures are extremely dynamic!! Very interesting!! She definitely knows what she is talking about!! Very hard grader!
Very good speaker, keeps material interesting but is a tough grader. Make sure essay on test is written well, will take points off for minor things. Overall:very good teacher
The positive is her clear and focused lectures. However, she has a folksy style of delivery: speaking in the first person for historical figures and using tired cliches. I felt I was right back in middle school or elementary. But overall, still a well above-average teacher.
grrrrrr............she has robot powers and she makes people listen to her anoying lectures by asking them to pay attention.
Surprised me. She makes hard comments and grades harshly, but I ended up with an "A" in the end. If you have high self-esteem, take this class. Any personal problems, go elsewhere. However, here you will learn and remember the subject.
I really enjoyed her class and I would take her again for another History course.
Because of her I am now minoring in History. She has a way of making History that much more interesting. She is good a very good teacher and I hope to take more of her classes.
A great lecturer, she tells it as if it was a story. Two tests both of multiple choice and essay.
Incredible professor- she's what turned me on to my History major. Dynamic speaker, very informative and has a style of teaching I've never seen before. Very maticulous on essays, but more than willing to help in any way so that the material is understood. Would recommend to anyone.
I didn't care for histroy before this class and now I love it. She did a great job teaching, but no one is prefect. I loved the class but I now some who really didn't(-mostly guys:/-).
She rubbed me the wrong way. She would harp on people for walking in late (not me specifically because I was always early) but she was hebitually late. Every day she would be 5 minutes late or more. And when she was sick (coughing) she would come to school and cough all over the front row. gross.
Great teacher. Class was enjoyable yet not too difficult. I learned a lot and enjoyed learning it.
She gives lectures in the first person and talks a lot about women's rights. She puts things on tests that she hasn't even covered. She also grades your term paper like an English teacher. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
Amazing teacher- would definately recommend her to anyone. It was funny to watch her wake up kids who fell asleep and make them leave or watch the people who didn't study for her tests complain about getting C's. She's very informative and tells you EXACTLY how to get an A in her class and is willing to help you get there. Awesome teacher.

Very good instructor, does just teach material but explains from differnt points of views giving you a better understanding. Learned alot.
Ann is a good teacher, really gets the point across. She means business. Unfortunately for me, she had a baby mid semester and left us with a horrible teacher.
Ann was the best history teacher! Tests were easy not hard especially if u listen to the lectures!
I loved going to class with this teacher. She repeats everything so that it's clear, and has great tones and expression in her voice. Unfortunately she was pregnant and had to stop halfway through the class. (Anne Exton took over)
Is a great teacher. Don't use book very much. She lectures as if she was telling a story, and speaks as if in first person account, so is very interesting. Test are easy. Even if you're not interested in history, she will make it fun.
Anne is a real teacher: clear, approachable, friendly, open to questions. Her class isnt easy, but it isnt boring or impossible either. If you try, you can and will get a good grade, and more importantly- youre going to learn your national history. Im so glad I had her as an instructor- some of the other history "teachers" are horrible.
Barely any hmk, puts things into perspective, great teacher!
Basically your grade is based off of four essays, 2 in class 2 outside class. The grade that you normally get on essays will be the grade for this class
Ann is a great lecturer. Keeping people engaged at 7:30am is really hard when its history, but she did that very well. I think her tests were very fair, but when she grades the writing assignments she is VERY critical. One grammatical error will cost you big points, for not being an English class. I did learn a lot thought.
She expects your papers to be beyond English 1A standards. Couldnt tell if it was a History class or an English class. Very tough grader. Lectures the whole class and not interactive. My least favorite class this semester.
This woman knows history and plays it out like telling a story. She's very excited about the material. If you want to LEARN history, take Ann. If you wanna slide thru, go elsewhere.Don't fear the essay exams, many classmates aren't doing their best so you'll end up near the top of the class if you try. She's not agenda driven either.
i thought i wouldnt like hist until i took this class. she made me like history, and ive always hated it. she makes you want to learn because its like she is telling a story. very interactive. dont be afraid of the exams because if you study you will do fine. anne is a great teacher! take her
Anne is a fantastic teacher. She is very approchable and has a real interest in not only her subject, but also seeing her students succeed. She will tell you exactly what to do to do well in her classes and will help you succeed. She is the very best teacher at SRJC.
Ann is a good teacher. She likes her subject and it shows. Her lectures are good and she is very organized. She allows extra credit and walks you through the essays and exams so they arn't so intimidating.
Her tests are HARD,she grades essays really tough and I recommend doing all the extra credit if you want to survive. Her lectures are interesting but you have to keep up with the text. The tests will seriously kick your butt. If you don't care about your grade then she's interesting to just listen to.
This is a hard one. In some ways she's great, awesome lectures, loves her subject and it shows, but she also tends to be a bit prickly. Be prepared to work your ass off. Her tests are killers so attend every lecture and take notes! The best advice I can give: do the maximum amount of extra credit possible. This class is NOT easy but you'll learn lots
Take her for Womens history, not regular history. She's a great lecturer and a good teacher but her main interest is womens studies. I had her for US History and I learned more about Womens suffrage then I learned about WWII and more about Eleanor Roosavelt then FDR. Our big end of year paper was about women in the film industry in the 20s...
Anne is one of my favorite teachers at the JC. Her lectures were interesting and easy to understand and remember. She did have a bit of a feminist streak though.. I felt like it was more of a womens history class than US history. But all in all, loved it. Her tests are not as hard as people seem to think. Not much homework either.
Anne is one of my favorite teachers. She great at lecturing. She made me want to become a History teacher. She interacts with the books and really knows how to tell a story. Her grading system is tough though. Take lots of notes!
Makes history fun- I hated history until I took her class. She talks like a regular human being without trying to be all professional. She explains what happened so that you can't help but understand, and I found myself interested in what she was teaching.
Anne is by far my favorite teacher! She makes learning fun! Her lectures are very informative, and she uses different voices to illistrate her point. I'm going to miss her!
she is late and the class is very dry.
Anne was really fun. Her lectures were interesting and often like a story. Make sure to actually go to class, almost all the test questions come right from lectures.
She gives easily understood lectures and a few easy HW assignments. Shes a nice person unless you push her. I thought everything was all good up until the tests and the HW..it seems she grades much harder and expects much more of you than her simple lectures or even the book teach you. STUDY FOR THE TESTS AND PREPARE FOR THE ESSAY QUESTIONS
Her lectures were interesting and fun for the most part...she managed to keep me awake. The multiple choice section of the test was easy but she is completely unreasonable when grading the essay. In order to get an A you have to restate yourself over and over and pretend your talking to a five year old.

In order to get an A you have to restate yourself over and over and pretend your talking to a five year old.
she does not want you to think for yourself! You think like she does or else she berates you! Honestly one of the WORST teachers i have ever had in my LIFE!
Not a teacher for a student requiring Disablity Resources. Grade based on two tests and one essay assignment. Tons of material for each test. She required 16 written handwritten pages for one in class essay all within 1 1/2 hours. She expects a lot. She is tough grader on essay. Lectures are OK actually. still, do not recommend her at all.
Annoying, she gives you death stares, she's got these beady blue eyes that are frightening. And her clothes are too tight. It wasn't too hard. She yelled at one student who had a newspaper out!! with those blue death eyes.
She is ok as far as lecture goes but she has a short temper and is not very open or approachable. She is late consistently and has crappy office hours. She has a bad attitude about her job even saying she was annoyed with the semester. She grades the essays as if it is an ENGL1A class. Very bad attitude. I WILL NEVER TAKE ONE OF HER CLASSES AGAIN.
LOVED her class. All the rest of you such because she was great. I love her teaching method. I really dont like histroy but Anne made it easy and very clear to understand.
Ok, death stares and all, she is smokin! This was the greatest class, and her attitude kept talking to a minimum! Loved this class, if you are a wimp who does work for other classes in her class, BEWARE she will put you in your place! You go teach!
Anne is probably one of the best teachers i've ever had! She is so passionate when she talks and it makes the class so much more interesting. Don't try to do other work in her class, text, annoy her or she will deffinitly put you on the spot and embaress you.
Anne is an amazing teacher :] I hate history but her class has been my favorite so far. She is crystal clear about everything and there's only two tests all year. There's barely any homework too! She's awesome and funny, I highly recommend taking her.
Anne is great, she is passionate about her subject, makes it enjoyable and she is encouraging too, telling her students to perservere and hang in there.I loved her class albeit so early in the morning,it was worth getting up to attend.
She is extremely close minded and opinionated. She was 5-10 minutes late to class everyday and complained when students quietly left for the bathroom, get over it Anne. She often forgot dates and misquoted information, making her a very poor and unreliable history prof. Stiff paper grading and lets her opinions affect how she grades your 3 essays
An awful professor. My English prof was right she was an embarassment to the Jane Austin lectures. she talks down to you like you are five and expects your papers that way. don't think for yourself, just regeritate what she lectures about. Avoid like the plauge if you know anything about history; too simple, lacks insight, dull mean&late
Unfortunately one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Like the comment said below, she waters down everything so that I feel like I'm in a junior high or elementary school class. It's a college class!!! Have learned absoloutely nothing new that I didn't already know from previous classes. Uses crass language, and can't answer questions very wel
Definitely my favorite class so far at the SRJC. I hope I get the chance to take her again! She's awesome! Her lectures are really interesting and easy to listen to. 2 exams and 1 paper- my kind of class!
Summer classes: Her tests are reasonable. As long as you take notes in class then you are golden. She hands out a study guide-know the terms, an easy A. Essay questions are pretty easy as long as you attend class. Her lectures cover the info for the essays. Overall a great teacher.
A truly special lecturer. I am a history major and enthusiast and someone who can take previously learned material and still make it fresh and interesting is a rare find indeed. Her test can be tough (her essays especially) - but very rewarding. I can recommend her with confidence.
Anne is a very engaging professor. She is funny, clear, and informative. She makes history class enjoyable. Hardly any work handed out so your grade is based on two tests and a paper, but if you study you will do fine.
Mrs. Donegan is all over the place. Don't take her unless your into essays. Everything is about writting. I personally hated this class
Very clear in lectures and if you take good notes on them you should have no problem on the two exams she gives. Almost NO homework, no tests, just 2 exams with MC, TF and essay question. Gives lots of opportunity for extra credit. I definitely recommned her!
The best way to describe her as a teacher is decent. Her class is pretty easy. She usually just lectures about certain subjects and occasionally goes on rants on a related story. This class can definitely be boring, but if you stick with it, it's easy and easy to pass.
Anne is a good lecturer and the class is fairly easy. Her tests are predominatly essay exams, so if your not a good essay test writer then you might want to keep that in mind if your thinking about taking her. if you want to get an A or B you have to do an "optional" paper on a book that she assigns. very little homework though.
Anne is a GREAT history teacher. She has this storybook style of teaching that makes everything easy to understand. I'm not a history nut at all but her lectures were easy to listen to. Just go to class, take notes, & follow the study guide for the tests and you should do fine. She allows an outline for the first test but not the second. Take her!
I really liked Anne. I have never had an interest in history, but the way she taught the material made everything so much easier to understand. It was as if she was telling a story. The only way to get an A is to do an optional paper after reading a separate book. Tests are faily straight-forward. Just take really good notes in class.
Anne was my professor back in 2008 and to say she is disorganzised, is like saying a dog "meows," it makes no sense & is not true. She is organized, coherent, passionate, & pushes her students, which is neccesary for students who plan to transfer. Today, I am a senior at the Univ.of Nevada, & I owe much of my success to the tools Anne gave me.
Obviously, to an disorganized person, Anne may seem organized. But this does not qualify as organized to me: showed up late to class every single time, missed class with no warning twice, graded papers at the last second and openly admitted that she probably made mistakes and we should make sure her corrections were correct. Not reccomended at all!
Okay class. She's a great teacher and a pretty easy grader. Midterm and Final consist of multiple choice and an essay. The multiple choice is based on the book and the essay is based on the lectures. The lectures are interesting enough, she gets into character. I would take it. Easy B for very very little effort.
I liked her lectures and her class is overall easy. Not a great teacher but she is manageable and can pass with a little effort and work. Overall okay class and teacher
Tests are difficult. Alot of questions, I never read or heard her talk about. Tough Class but necessary to graduate.
Anne was a good teacher. I enjoyed her lectures. She put herself in different characters as she talked with us. If you listened, took good notes, and linked up with someone else as a study buddy you'll do good in the class. I'd take her as a teacher again.
Not the greatest teacher, but her lectures are interesting. Definitely passable but she was unorganized and sometimes the students would correct her history. Overall just okay.
I have never written a bad review on a teacher, this is my first. She was very condescending and some of her history wasn't right, especially her Shakespeare. Says the word "right" way too many times during a lecture. The class annoyed me more than helped me. Couldn't stand watching her lecture. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
She is a great teacher, I loved her lecturing style and she made it easy to follow. Its almost all lecture and two big tests and an essay. If you go to class and read the book its an easy pass.
A lot of minor, repetitive details in lecture. 25% of notes from lectures were used on the test. Then right before the midterm she told ppl that they should be halfway done with the novel and on some chapter in the text. Never gave a guide or announcement that we should be reading certain chps in our text. Only told us what books we'd be needing.
This class is pretty intresting. She tells her lectures like a story which makes it easy to listen to. But be prepared there is only 2 tests and count for like 36 percent of your grade. Plus one big essay!
Professor Donegan would arrive late to class most days. She also put terms and quesions on the exams that she didn't have a chance to cover in chance, so be sure to study. We used the textbook once, but there are extra credit opportunities. She is nice, but disorganized.
I took three classes with Anne. I love her strory telling style. Always on time! Three semesters, only missed one class! As soon as she comes into the room she give the session's outline. Take detailed notes and do your reading for all class material. She is an excellent teacher and she is there for you to learn, no easy passes here.
I'm not impressed. She is vague in her directions and then marks you down when you don't include things she did not specify. I would not take her online class again. It is frustrating and she is not very helpful, her emails come across condescending. This will be my first and last online class, that is for sure.
I was really disappointed! She missed so much class and then made the student responsible for getting the notes for the day's lecture from videos. She is super disorganized and rants on about the same thing; we did not get through all the class material. It really was not a multicultural class in my opinion, so take someone else.
Donegan can be annoying when she stops to explain words that college students should know before coming to class, or even graduating HS. But that's my problem. Her lectures are very well organized, and if you come to class everyday and take good notes, you'll do well.
Anne is amazing. I love her clear storytelling style of history. She will expect a lot from you for tests, so make sure to read and take great notes. Ample opportunity to get extra credit, but be sure not to do too much (maximum is 20 points, but you can do more assignments than that).
Great teacher and a fun class to take. The essay's are easy and the tests are as well.
The class was well laid out from the begining. You knew what sections were being covered at what times. Weekly office hours online that were emailed every week. Each unit was done as a 3 week section. If you are self disciplined to stay on track you were fine. Each unit consisted of 2-3 writing assignments and a test. Spelling and Grammar count.
She was a very good teacher. She was very organized chronologically and knew what she was talking about. She gives many opportunities for extra credit. Take good notes and come to class.
I love Anne. She teaches in a way that is easy to understand and is very engaging. The class wasn't an overwhelmingly amount of work. It consisted of a midterm essay (outline permitted), a frederick douglass essay and a final. Easy peasy if you're there and take notes.
Anne's online class is the hardest one I've ever taken. It's extremely time consuming with a lot of writing required. She seems to be a tough grader, although probably fair. I really love history so it wasn't so bad for me. She's responsive to e-mail and pretty helpful.
I have to say this was one of the hardest online classes I've taken. There was way to much work for a summer session. The quizzes and essays were not easy at all and she was a very hard grader, and wanted you too include things that were not specified. I would not recommend taking her online class.
This was a confusing class because she would go on talking and go into the 1940s and then the next thing you knew she had jumped back into the 1800s. It made everything interesting to say the least. I wish she had just done all the same time period together. There wasn't a whole lot of work but bet my buttons you had better have read the book.
Interesting lectures. Attendance not mandatory. Textbook reading really not mandatory (a few mult. choice questions on tests not covered in lecture), but read the paperback! She's a tough grader, even for a good student. She wants VERY specific things in essays and probably rarely gives full credit. I have mixed feelings; probably won't take again
Hands down the most interesting and empowering class I Have had at the J.C. I enjoyed this class, because it was informative, easy to follow, light homework, intriguing, empowering & enjoyable. The teacher acted out the lecture. This class turned me inside out and had me reevaluating my life, my moms, and all my female ancestor's.
I was so excited about this class but it turned out to be my least favorite of the semester (I took stats too!). Donegan uses outdated/wrong information, and for a women's history class, we barely talked about any women! Her class is easy enough but nearly impossible to actually sit through if you like history. I would never recommend this class.
Must takes notes of her lectures and any videos she shows. Novel is easy read, read text book to better understand topics even though she doesn't go over text book. Extra credit is offered in many forms. No reason not to get an A. Tests are two part, first 25 multiple choice questions based on terms and second part in class essay.
I LOVED Donegan! Her lectures were fantastic! She really explains how everything is connected. The in-class essays are challenging but if you take good notes and look at the material you will do fine. Very approachable and puts thing in perspective. My previous professor got sick and she came in as a sub, I'm glad ended up with her as a professor!
Anne is clearly passionate about history. As a women's history class, it didn't seem like she talked about women as much as just general US history, but still very informative. Two exams (midterm+final; online quiz portion+in class essay), two group quizzes, and one essay. Need to take notes on what she says as she doesn't use slides or whiteboard.
Loved Donegan, would take her again. Great lectures, 2 group quizzes (about 5 ?s), 2 on-line quizzes (25 ?s), 2 homeworks, 1 paper, midterm and final are essays and you know possible subjects in advance. Gives study guides for tests, & extra credit. Is very strong at classroom management, will call you out! Awesome instructor & she's dept, chair.
Donegan was cool. Some of the lectures were super interesting and some seemed to go on forever. I took about 5 pages of notes per lecture and she doesn't have slideshows so you write down what she says. 2 homework assignments, 1 research paper with presentation, 2 tests with essay and offers a little extra credit. Tests are kind of hard.
I took professor Donegan during my semester abroad and I immediately regretted it. She used racial slurs and made excuses for it. Her lectures directly contradict what you know to be fact. If you know what is good for you do not take this class. She lectures from her brain and not the book. Her tests don't reflect study guide material.
I didn't think I could hate history any more than I already do until I took Anne's class. All she does is lecture and her exam study guides never correlate with the test. DON'T TAKE HER
quite possibly the worst teacher I've ever encountered at SRJC. Prof. Donegan writes condescending comments on homework assignments, even after the assignment has taken you four hours to complete. do not take her classes.
Her online class is SO MUCH WORK. She assigns way too many papers. She gives you three weeks to complete each new assignment, which seems nice, but it's so much work I always felt behind. I had to drop the class because I knew I wasn't going to pass if I continued on. Horrible teacher, and hard to contact through email.
I took Anne's online history class, and it was an interesting class. The monthly timed quizzes are challenging but know the material and you will be fine. She is a tough grader, but she is fair and has a clear grading criteria on what to do. Essays are tough, but she responds fast to emails and always updates the class on office hours.
Good instructor, but I would not recommend her for students who are not self motivated. She divides the course into 6 three week sections, each of which only contains 3 or 4 assignments. As such, it could be easy to get behind. Absolutely NOT your typical online liberal arts course. Also, her grading criteria is quite specific.
The main issue I had with this teacher is that she's clearly politically biased and requires answers to reflect her beliefs, not facts. We have to quote her class notes (her opinions) in essays. A lot of her statements were actually really offensive! Also, she requires WAY more writing than an online summer class should. Take someone else! Please!
Terrible. She does not tell you fully what she wants you to answer in her questions, then shell wonder why you did not answer them. Way to much writing for a summer class. She wants to hear what she believes in and not what is true, which is why she only lets us cite from her notes and from the book(I can hardly find the info she wants in it.)
I wouldn't take her... I think she should become an English teacher, that would suit her more. However, if she was an English teacher I still would not take her.
Passionate informed teacher, chair of the department. Lectures from memory so you have to take notes on what she's saying. Assigns a lot of readings in Canvas with no due date so its hard to know what she's expecting you to come to class knowing. Hard essay grader, everything is worth high points.
I used to love history, but after taking this teacher, I absolutely hate it now! Super hard teacher, you will never meet up to her expectations even if you try very hard to do so. Skip her and find a better teacher.
Makes sure that lectures are interesting and she has the same effect as books where her lectures pull you into the setting. Down side: Not super accessible outside of class and often posted study guides uncomfortably close to test dates
After this class, I officially hate history.
took history 17.1 over the summer, material is condensed, so plan to spend 20-25 hours a week-not even exaggerating. she assigns 150-200 pages of textbook (3 ch. each week) accompanied with lectures for each chapter. 3 essays 500-700 words each, a quiz, documentary, and podcast. No way to cut corners, you can only cite material she assigns. no E.C.
As others have said she gives way too much work for a summer class, 3 chapters a week 1-2 hour movies and more. She is very disorganized and had us buy the wrong edition of the textbook, and one of the quizzes wasn't even from this class. She has to find something wrong with every assignment and will mark you off for things she didn't even ask for.
Very average teacher. Her lectures were engaging, however, her grading criteria was almost never clear and she looked for very specific answers. I found her to be almost rude when students would ask clarifying questions about assignments or expectations. If you're academic, enjoy history, and attend class you'll be fine. Otherwise don't take class.
I took Donegan's online class over the summer. Honestly, it was horrible. There was so much homework and her grading was extremely strict. I was lucky enough to receive a C in her class. Out of all the classes I've taken at the JC, this has to be my least favorite one.
LOTS of reading so keep up with it and several videos to watch on top of reading material. Great history book for class and other informative material. Never liked history until now. Follow instructions for papers and you will do fine. Take quizzes right after reading book so it's fresh in your mind. Online was great.
Provides a good amount of extra credit. I like history so I though her class was nice. She doesnt use any type of presentation aid so its just her talking the whole class and she assigns a ton of reading which I didnt do. Most of test questions are based off her lectures but does throw some stuff from the book in there. Would take again.
Online worked great- lots of reading, but at least it was from one textbook, quiz questions were very relevant to the reading. Essays were graded with very specific criteria. She responded quickly and helpfully to questions. As with other online courses, self-motivation is important as assignments are spaced. It is a good semester class.
Great instructor for History 4.2 for Fall 2019 semester. Will approve any extra credit, as long as its in the time period being studied, like I talked to her about the Titanic Museum in Missouri in her office hours. I even took her final exam before I left for my Disney Land trip.
She understands her subject matter very well, but can overload the student. Summer course modules expect you to write 3-4 essays a week, plus watch a movie, and read multiple chapters. For those who don't revolve their lives around school, this may be hard to keep up with Grading criteria for is hyper specific, points lost for not complying exactly
Prepare to write 15-20 essays, along with movies, podcasts, and hours of text. Oh and be prepared to be marked down on your papers for not including things that werent outlined in the grading criteria. Ive never had a teacher that takes a pointless gen-ed summer course so seriously. Apparently students dont have lives outside of class, so good luck
The class wasn't so hard at all. The only thing that I found challenging was the essays. She is clear about what she expects. I am terrible writer so I would receive a B on the essays. Be sure to the reading and study before taking the exam online. Keep in mind the exam is timed so pace yourself.
A lot of reading. About 4-6 chapters a week + class notes, podcasts, movies (during summer). 2-3 papers a week. Quiz each week. Personally, gave me good feedback and understood why. One late hw pass. Shes super nice and gave me three, and let me take final late. Gave me a 48/75 on final when I didnt finish and didnt deserve it. Thankful for her.
Phenomenal lecturer and professor. Takes the time to put you in the shoes of people during historical periods. She is not just regurgitating information from a text but creating a well rounded lecture. Essays are not lightly graded but there are plenty of extra credit opportunities. Take advantage of them if you want an A.
There was 7 grades all semester. The tests and hw were all written responses. Typically I go 1-200 words over giving answers, but it wasnt enough for me. She keeps counting off for things in comments that she didnt ask in prompt, to the excessive point of changing a papers to 50%s. Repeatedly,I took the class for a better grade my 2nd try 70%
She is nice, but an unnecessarily hard grader. I did all the assigned work, spent over the amount of hours she said it needed to take at least for each module, did my best work, sent multiple emails, and still struggled to keep my grades up. She never gives 100% and the average grade is always pretty low. She gives lots of feedback.
Teacher is strict grader! Every writing assignment I followed strictly what she wanted/her evaluation score sheet! when assignments got back she had given me half credit and a long list of things she didnt even ask for. Even if I did a great job she still would not give full credit and used "grammar and capatialization" as an excuse to mark down.
H 21 is suppose to be about ethnicity and diversity. She never stayed on point with any of her lectures. hard to take notes! Used last years lectures on canvas from a different text we never had, insisted we "were never allowed to use outside sources" she said I needed to do more research. This was not an inspiring class. Very disappointing.
Would regularly grade me lower on papers for not talking about subjects which she did not tell me to talk about in the paper. One time I recieved a lower grade on an assignment where I was to briefly mention the way irish immigrants lived in America because I didn't also mention the lives of Irish-American women.
Had to drop this summer class halfway through the semester to focus on the rest of my classes. Get ready for "20-25 hours a week" for this general ed class. Interesting lectures and a very well-informed professor, but the workload is too much for a student with other engagements.
The people that are rating Dr. Donegan so hard are lazy. She assigns three chapter of reading a week + 1000 words of writing. All you have to do is find/listen to the audiobook and you'll be fine. I am taking this class as pass or no pass, not trying too hard, and have almost an A. She offers extra credit and accepts one late paper with no penalty.
Only take this course if you are a History major (even then maybe avoid it) because otherwise you are gonna hate it. You will have to write and write on top of all the heavy reading. If you have no interest in history then you will be doomed to fail. Take so many notes and write beyond what she talks about. Expect you to write every little detail.
Nice teacher, assigns a bit of reading though. Good class overall, would take another class with her. Class is good for students that learn by watch videos. Lots of prerecorded lectures and youtube videos. Class is not for lazy students.
Definitely knew what she was talking about, and history majors would probably love this class. My main issue was that the class was listed as hybrid, but was still 3 hours of lectures per week, just with up to 9 hours of videos/readings on top of it. Otherwise she was good, just hard to keep up with.
Currently taking her for the summer semester and for a useless GE course, she asks for a lot! She assigns a ton of reading and expects you to watch her boring lectures and on top of that, hour long movies that are part of the assignments. She even warns you ahead of time that you have to dedicate 25 hours of the week for this 3 unit GE course lmao!
This class had good content but wasn't set up very well. No lecture notes were provided and she taught almost all from memory. Having slides or something to reference outside of class would be nice. We only had 5 homework assignments all semester which were toughly graded, so if you messed up on one you were screwed.
Lots of writing. Took as a high school sophomore, manageable yet difficult and time consuming. 10-15 hours per week (summer).
Tough grader. Doesn't explain exactly what she expects in essays and asked more questions she wanted in to hear after you've turned it in. Tells you info not correct even if found in text book.
The workload for this class is heavy, with lots of reading, writing assignments, and media to engage with. However, the professor is understanding and offers some flexibility, like late assignment submissions. Unstuckstudy proved useful for efficient study prep alongside the textbook.
She is a great lecturer, but asks for very detail specific answers on very vague topics with no rubric. She gives extra credit up, but it is useless. You are required to write 1-2 pages for 0-3 points EC. I have a 4.0 through every class for 3 years, including every major science class. She was the closest I came to getting a B. DO NOT take her.
She is a tough grader be ready to read and write like your grade depends on it! The class material is very interesting and she seems to know all her lecture content by heart.
- no slides just lectures - lots of reading - office hours are not much help
I have taken classes at SRJC for the past three years and I haven't written a review before. I took history 17.2 because it was a requirement and it was the hardest class I've ever had to take. The average grade in my class this semester was a B. Homework assignments would ask vague questions & graded harshly even though the questions were answered
Poor knowledge of the material, vague grading criteria, harsh grading. Terrible all around. I should have checked here first!
I recommend that everyone stay away from this teacher. Lots of reading, yet she expects you to answer questions she didn't ask and expects tons of details over things she never mentioned in the notes. She grades extremely tough and expects too much from an online course, especially in the summer.
