Lecture sometimes boring but she puts all definitions on the board so understanding is easy. Although tests are on Scantron they are somtimes confusing and hard. Lots of reading. A slacker B, difficult A.
there is a LOT of reading that you have to do in order to do decent on the tests. lecture sometimes, boring, but ok. tests are decent. not bad
In all an okay class. However, the lectures can be 50/50 on boring or interesting. Pay attention to all definitions and specifics on the readings even though she says they don't count. Trust me they do! Her tests require specifics, just ask for help!
I had Figgert for Environmental Sociology. She is one of the best professors I've had. She has a great teaching style and is super helpful. Take her classes!!
FANTASTIC PROF!!
I think she is a great professor--She makes herself very accessible to the students and is always willing to help! She makes her lectures interesting by relating concepts to appeal to the students. I think she is great!
DR.Figert is an understanding teacher. She is very organized and her teaching technique is understandable for all ages.
She explains things really well and is very lively.
Great lectures, I never missed a class! She made the material very interesting. Unfortunately her tests can be a little tricky, so study hard. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to stay awake in class.
Excellent professor! In a class of 150, she made it seem like it's actually one on one. Energetic and hilarious, she is always making herself available for help.
Interesting Class even though there is a lot of reading to it. However tells you what you need to know for tests.
I think she should be the only one allowed to teach this class because she does it so perfectly. Her notes a flawless, the lectures keep you awake and alert, and she is so organized its not even funny. She's never afarid of embarrassing herself.
I love this professor.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She has no clue about sociology. Can't teach worth anything at all. She spends half the time running around and missing the points of her own lecture. Makes you read stupid readings in the book. Find other sociology profs.
She is really good!! and funny too. If you go to ALL the classes and make sure to read the readings you have an easy A..no problem. Her tests aren't hard at all...just GO TO CLASS
She's an excellent professor! Passionate about sociology and is very helpful...her lectures are not boring and she gets really into them, which helps you stay awake! She's a fair grader! Don't read until she gives u the list of readings for the exams.
With 150 students in class the professor seemed to be screaming all the time. She would go so fast that it was impossible to take effective notes. Her tests were extremely hard! Would reccomned her for grad cour work.
Take her!!!!! She is a great soc teacher and I learned a lot. Make sure you do the readings.....there are generally 3 for each class period and each are about 10 pages. Review readings + review her class notes = EASY A on tests and in class!!!!!
She is an awesome teacher. She is very 'out there' I guess you could say. On those hungover mornings, she definately keeps your attention. Only homework is to read and you get 3 tests plus a final all year. Tests are pretty easy. I would definately consider taking her. She's the****.
If you want an A take this class. Figert does her best to present interesting lectures, but somes she goes a bit overboard and forgets to do a good job of EXPLAINING the material. Do the readings and you'll be in good shape.
Not so good, but not so bad.
interesting, easy to understand
Dr. Figert is a good professor, but her class is difficult. I wouldn't take this class if you're looking for an easy course. Her tests are hard, and she has several small papers due throughout the semester. She is very passionate about Sociology, and it sometimes is a little over the top.
Dr. Figert was a great teacher for this class, her tests were pretty easy, and the reading only involved abstract articles with no laborious text books. She's ridiculously helpful in and out of class as well.
Great teacher! She's so helpful and is there in/outside of class to explain things. It's not hard to get an A. Anyone who tells you her class is difficult is off their rocker. In addition, she makes abstract topics genuinely interesting.
I thought i studied enough for the tests, but the wording and what she's looking for is kinda hard. Take her, but you have to know what she's looking for. But she's very helpful and energetic
Show up to class and you will pass.
BOOOOO
Dr. Figert is extraordinary energetic and captivating, as is sociology. The grade [comprised of 3 tests, plus extra credit] is impossible if you do not go to class and tough if you do...you need to study and THINK. the class is extremely interesting and it's not too hard to get an A [people complain far too much and don't work]. Take this class!
I can't believe Dr. Figert gets this good of a rating. She is a very intelligent professor who knows what she is talking about. However, the class is based off of three tests which are extremely difficult. The class average is around a 65% I believe. Don't take this class. It's way too difficult for an entry level class into sociology.
Her class is really interesting, and she makes it difficult to want to fall asleep in her class because of this. Just take down all the notes and read all the readings thoroughly. Her tests are quite difficult, and it would be hard to get an A easily. Three tests, each being a third of your grade... Hard to get an A if you fail any of them...
very vague w/ scantron tests
Not genuinely interested in her students. Some questions on the tests were very unclear, and majorly emphasize the readings. Her class is huge, over 250 students, so try to ask a question if you get a chance, she might actually listen to you. Don't go in expecting an easy A because you will fall flat on your face.
The lectures are on powerpoint, so you have to go to class. There are many reading and websites that you have to go to. Not very helpful in answering your questions, ask the TA (if there is one). The tests are tough because the way she words the questions. Take if you're perpare to work otherwise look for a different class.
Her tests are extremely difficult. I could not believe that it was an intro class. The readings are complicated and very in-depth. Be realistic and expect a low C and a B if you work hard and have lots of luck. Think twice before taking this class, especially as a under classman!
Nice professor but a hard class. Lots of difficult readings and all that's graded are three tricky tests. i don't recommend it.
Incredible teacher. Her course was extremely interesting and I enjoyed being in the course. Her lectures were clear and concise. However, her test require you to actually read the books and study the notes diligently. If you can read and take good notes you'll be fine.
This was the worst class I have taken at Loyola University. She is extremely boring and dry. Her tests are worded stupidly and make no sense. I honestly believe she does not want students to pass. Take my advice, and never take this class.
I'm really glad I took her class. I learned a lot and her lectures were always interesting. She used a book all on the show Seinfeld and we even watched some episodes in class. The only gripe I have on her was she didn't seem very helpful outside of class, but her class is easy enough and fun so I'm sure anyone will do fine if they pay attention.
Great class! Dr. Figert is a great professor, she tries her hardest to present the material in a clear, entertainig way. However, this is not a blow off class, you do need read the textbook and listen to her lectures. Her tests are not as bad as people make them out to be, but you're grade is only based off of three tests so make sure to do well.
no miderterm, no final. just 3 non cumulative tests (the last one taken during finals) and optional extra credit assignments. alot of assigned reading but its not necessary, she covers everything from the readings THOROUGHLY in class. most of the ?'s are from lecture, only a FEW are strictly from the book. great teacher, very interesting!!!!!
review for tests, her teaching style is interesting, but if you study you'll be fine. she told me an A was almost impossible but thats what i ended up with, so i think she tries to scare people with that, but overall, not a bad class.
Here is a professor who knows how to relate to her students and uses it to make her lectures interesting despite the dry material we covered. She is not afraid to veer from the topic to spend time clarifying assignments or talking about other issues that concern or are useful to her students. Fabulous professor, but be prepared to think.
She's a great teacher- you can totally be yourself and talk about any issue in her class- nothing is censored... super sweet lady also! easy a as long as you go to class and become active and interested in the topic which isnt hard b/c she is very updated in everything she teaches!
If she will be your first sociology teacher, avoid! I was interested in the subject before I had her for a teacher. Her tests were ridiculous. Studying is useless. I never want to take a sociology class again because of her.
I took the class for core and it turned out to be my most interesting class! She is very engaging with students, tests are very easy if you read the assigned readings and pretty easy if you don't. 3 curved tests, extra credit, class is not manditory. The class made me think and made me want to take more Socl classes.
Dr Figert is a nice woman. She gives 3 tests, no final. The tests arent easy, but they arent too difficult. theyre very straight forward. Her class was boring at times, but fun at others. we watched a few movies. gives extra credit points.
She'll keep you on your toes and you have to go to class in order to see the power points, but she's really funny and if you go to class an take notes, it's not too difficult of a class.
I wish i would have taken her in a smaller class.. she is a very interesting person that makes for a good teacher.. the big lecture class was simple note taking readings and 3 exams.. its a easy A for people that are willing to read and take notes.. the class is interesting even for those who dont care at all about sociology..
Dr. Figert is amazing. I absolutely LOVED her class. Makes me want to major in sociology. Very Interesting. Like everyone else, I wish I could have her in a SMALL classroom setting.3 exams only, she curved each one between 2-6pts, reading the book def. helps, gives lots of extra credit opportunities, overall easy & shes HILARIOUS & doesnt hold back
Im not too big on sociology, but the topics she covers are fun and interesting. If I had a greater interest in the topic, I would definately take her upper level classes.
She is a nice person and is interesting. Three tests (not cumulative) which are not too hard. Does offer extra credit and there are no big papers.
Sociology is a BS field but she is not bad if you want an easy A. There were two tests and a non cumulative final. Go to class, take notes, and do the reading and you will do well.
Great class!
Dr. Figert is a hoot. Her lectures are interesting and fun to attend, although her personality may come on strong to some. She really cares about how well you understand the information - if you get below a C on the tests, she requires you visit her during office hours for pointers. You have to study for the tests, but it's a fun class.
She is fun. does powerpoints daily that are not on blackboard, and are a large content of her tests. 3 tests (multiple choice true false short answer matching). Also based on the readings from the book that are never discussed in class. if you go to class and read and study you will be fine.
This semester (Fall '09) was the first time she didn't have a class of around 100-200 students. I took this class for core. Her tests were VERY hard. I almost felt she treated us like we were all sociology majors. I got an A in all my classes but hers (got a C in hers). Do NOT take. She takes her intro sociology class way too seriously.
Acts nice, then doesn't follow through. Like her male students more than her female ones. Is funny but doesn't think about her actions.
Great experience! Her lectures are clear and she welcomes class participation. The books she uses are collections of readings rather than traditional textbooks, so doing the required reading is interesting. She is interested in what students have to stay and her door is always open if students have questions
You have to read the articles and go to class (she doesn't make going to class mandatory, but she doesn't put Powerpoints on Blackboard). Overall she is funny and cares about her students. She gives you a study guide before each exam that explicitly states what's on it. No cumulative exams/final! An A is very possible if you put in a little effort.
Great class! The lectures from a powerpoint that isn't on blackboard, but classes are interesting and she encourages participation and dialogue. the readings are usually pretty interesting and the tests are easy!
She wasn't too bad. You had to make sure you read, otherwise you won't do well on the tests. She also gives some easy assignments for some points.
Wonderful professor! Classes are always exciting and she is more than willing to help in any possible way. Cares more about developing students' skills than seeing how many F's she can give. Senior capstone seemed intimidating at first but she made it very doable and enjoyable.
She was overall pretty good. make sure you do the assigned readings and go to class. If you do both of those you will be fine. Tests aren't too hard.
Easy A. Copy down the powerpoints exactly and study from them. It's basically wrote memorization. Lovely lady, great class, very interesting, but not very challenging. I only got an A- because I fell asleep for a few classes and missed the notes.
Enthusiastic teacher. Just take copy notes from powerpoint and you'll be good. Try to keep up with readings. They aren't too bad because their interesting articles and not from a textbook. You read 2 nonfiction books but they are easy reads and interesting.
I took social 101 with my wellness community. Dr. Figert is very into sociology, which makes learning the information easier and interesting. I would recommend her in a heart beat and as long as you read and study for the quizzes (tests) than you will get at least a B.
I loved Dr. Figert! If you copy down the powerpoints word for word, pay attention, and do all of the readings (Warning: there are many!) you will get an A! Def. recommend
Dr. Figert makes her lectures and class discussions very interesting and engaging by speaking on many societal issues around the world. The books we read in this class are actually fun to read! I think pretty much everyone in my class received an A, but you definitely have to work for it.
She is a very active professor. On top of that, she is very hilarious. She tries her best to help you pass, but that's like impossible.... Her class is very easy.
She is one of the best professors at Loyola. She is very funny and tries to keep her class as active as possible. Her class is also impossible not to pass. Would definitely recommend her.
Easiest class of my life. Skipped a lot of classes and when I went I barely paid attention. Think like everyone deserves everything and you'll pass with flying colors. Very easy class to bs your way through. 2 tests, 5 assignments, and some extra credit
Only a few actual assignments that were easy reflections. The two tests are not bad if you actually look over the study guide. Don't expect to waltz into the test knowing nothing and expect an A. All around great teacher that loves her powerpoints and what she teaches. Definitely go to office hours and get to know her. Would definitely recommend
Dr. Figert's class made me want to switch my major to Sociology! She is so sweet and very passionate about what she teaches. As the department head she is a good person to know and get on her good side! 2 exams and 5 out of class assignments. Very clear on what she expects, some extra credit as well. She wants you to succeed!
I love Anne! She is hilarious and cares so much about sociology! During her lectures I could tell that she was very passionate about what she studies. Her lectures and assignments are pretty clear and concise. As long as you pay attention in class you'll do well
When she teaches, you can tell that Professor Figert knows what she's talking about. Her class is largely dependent on the lectures, but most everything is common sense. Two tests, 6 easy papers, and a chance for extra credit. She is SUPER nice, and really cares about what is going on in your life. Definitely would take again!
Attendance is definelty mandatory as Anne doesnt post her PowerPoints. The reading she assigns should not be overlooked and are always on the test. She is available whenever you need and really cares about her students. Her tests can be challenging if you dont study at all, but if you put in a decent amount of work, youll pass.
Anne is def someone you would want to be your aunt or grandma. She assigns readings from books everyday, but I only touched each one once or twice, so I got away with no reading. Go to lecture bc she doesn't share her powerpoints and everything on them will help for the exam. This class is a pretty easy A, but pay attention bc u will learn a lot!!
She is a very sweet and funny lady. The tests are open book & very easy if you do the readings. The class itself is really straightforward, but she keeps you engaged. The problems are cool and she grades easily.
Dr. Figert is honestly one of my favorite professors at Loyola. She is super passionate about what she teaches and wants you to succeed. She never tries to make the topic she is teaching too difficult and overall is just a hilarious teacher. If you have the chance, take her class and you wont regret it!
does not post powerpoint online if you skip and speeds through lectures and won't go back if you ask because "you're not supposed to write down the whole slide". you HAVE to do all the readings because they make up most of the quizzes and major part of the final portfolio. Way too much reading as well probably 30 pgs/night. BEWARE IF YOU ARE SMART!
Best professor ever!!! She is so passionate about her job and always energetic. I highly recommend her class. She makes sociology applicable to life, and very interesting. Graded on 5 projects, 5 quizzes (online out of class) and a final reflection (turned in online out of class). Show up to class because she doesn't post lectures online.
Dr. Figert is one of the best professors at Loyola! She cares about her students very much and I enjoyed every conversation I had with her! Straightforward assignments and her quizzes are online. However, don't make a mistake by not reading. The readings ALWAYS show up on quizzes and the questions can be tricky! Take her, she's the best!
Such a sweet professor! Very easy class- 5 writing assignments which she grades easy and 5 online quizzes with questions straight from lecture/readings. Very pasionate about sociology and makes the class super interesting! She doesnt post powerpoints online so you have to go to class but honestly I didnt mind because I liked this class!
Dr. Figert is amazing! Grading is point based with a lot of extra credit points through Top Hat. Only 4 Projects and as long as you come to class and do the homework, it's an easy A.
Dr. Figert is super sweet and wholesome. There are not any exams, but quite a few pretty difficult projects, but she makes it manageable and gives extra credit and points on TopHat
take figert if you can. shes so sweet and nice and if you understand the lectures you will get an A. she gives extra credit opportunities and definitely makes her class enjoyable.
Take her if you can. It's an easy A as long as you are somewhat familiar with the readings and pay attention in lectures. Her quizzes (no tests) are incredibly straightforward and simple. She is also really understanding given the current circumstances.
This class was very boring and the lectures were long. She kinda just rants for a long time. But, her assignments were easy and she is lenient. We had only quizzes no tests but they were online. They are timed but she gives you a lot of time so they were pretty easy.
She's nice and all but her teaching style is not my favorite. She lectures very heavy, doesn't like when you ask her to go back a slide yet wants you to take good notes. I will say that it's nice to have the 4 quizzes and no exams.
Dr. Figert is the best. She is really passionate about what she teaches and the class is extremely easy if you just show up and do the reading. I would 100% recommend her to anyone.
she is a very nice professor and is very passionate about sociology. There's 4 projects and they are fairly easy. There is 4 quizzes, no tests. are open note and take home. Are required to read, but I never read and I did pretty good on the quizzes since they are open note and I can look up. 1 con: lots of notes but manageable. TAKE HER
Dr. Figert is a wonderful professor and woman. She is incredibly kind and wants her students to succeed. I took her for Socl 101 and it was the easiest class I have ever taken, but I still learned a lot. She does not take attendance and participation is not part of your grade. Take her, especially if you're just taking Socl 101 for core.
Dr. Figert is a literal angel. I love her so much. She's so intelligent, so kind, so accommodating, and so incredible. I took her for SOCL 101 and 206, and I'm so grateful I had her twice. She is one of the kindest professors I've ever had. As for the difficulty, both classes are pretty easy. Open note quizzes, and basic projects.
It was a bit work heavy in the beginning and pretty easy towards the end, Anne is so caring and fun and just a great teacher. Take her!
figert is such a kind professor who truly wants you to succeed. she has lots of tiny low-stakes quizzes to improve you grade and 4-5 projects/papers. seriously a very kind and accommodating professor and makes the content accessible/easy to understand.
Dr. Figert is such an angel. She is the definition of how I want to be when I'm older. You can tell she is such a caring and kind hearted person who really just wants her students to learn and she'll help you in whatever way she can. Coming into this class, I was super scared but she made the class extremely enjoyable. Definitely take her!
literally love her so much- did not skip a day of her class because I liked going to it so much. Makes learning an otherwise boring concept so fun and enjoyable
Dr. Figert is very understanding and has a nice demeanor. Her class required a lot of reading but the readings offered analysis through varying frameworks. Dr. Figert goes above and beyond to encourage discussion and hear the thoughts of her students.
I like Professor Figert a lot. She lectures with a lot of enthusiasm. There are a lot of readings but they're very interesting and I enjoyed reading them. She also cares about students and will work with you if you need extra help/extra time. Plus weekly online quizzes on Sunday. Just do the readings, show up to class and you'll do well.
I am so glad I chose her! She is someone who is truly passionate about sociology and I learned a lot from her. She's a very upbeat person as she makes lecture engaging! Overall, she's understanding and caring!
Take her, you'll thank me later :)
She is so amazing and I have never met a professor at Loyola who is as passionate as she is. She makes a boring research class something I don't dread going to!! Please take her for absolutely any class you can, she is very caring and will support you : )
SHE IS SO NICE AND PASSIONATE. Her lectures are not boring but actually hilarious. All this class is, is reading, taking some notes, weekly online quizzes (all in her slides) and projects that are super easy. Recommend taking her!!!
She is such a fun and caring professor! Her class is point-based so you gain points through the semester based on attendance, 3 projects, and quizzes. The weekly quizzes are online and due over the weekend, and are mostly about her powerpoints and textbook readings. Take her!!!
Anne is such a fun professor! her lectures are super helpful and she actually teaches you important material. I actually look forward to her class. You do have a textbook but you don't NEED to buy it. The quizzes are fine and very doable. Shes super funny and has great energy. Love her!
Loveeeee Dr. Figert, she is such a kind soul and really wants her students to do well. She makes lectures very interesting and engaging, and makes me actually want to go to class. Grade consists of bi-weekly online quizzes and 3 projects. Highly recommend her!!!
Professor Figert is the reason I have a sociology minor, she is so passionate about the topics and it shows throughout her lectures, there are weekly quizzes and 3 projects, the quizzes are easy as long as you take notes during lectures and read the required readings.
i loved professor figert. she is very uplifting and honestly makes class fun. she has about 5 online quizzes and a few projects that are spread out during the semester. i will take her again if needed! she is what every professor should be tbh.
Dr. Figert is an engaging professor who genuinely cares about her students' success. Her class has weekly online quizzes and projects, making it manageable. I found Unstuckstudy helpful for quiz prep alongside the textbook readings.
Super enthusiastic professor. She loves what she teaches and loves being a teacher. Workload was easy, there are a handful of quizzes and projects that aren't very difficult. She also has pretty clear and fair grading criteria. I will say, she has a LOT of energy, and is very passionate it gets overwhelming. Very sweet lady though.
She is amazing!! Attendance is mandatory and she does not post the lectures online, so you do need to show up, but it is really easy to pass this class! She assigns a lot of extra credit, the quizzes are open-note, and she makes the grading criteria very clear. Her lectures are also very engaging and she is lenient and enthusiastic.
Uses AI in her assignments and it shows - many of the instructions are lengthy and confusing. Also does not know how to use the software she is supposed to be teaching us (Qualtrics). My group asked a simple question and she didn't know the answer. Also unreasonable - got mad when students wanted to take class off to go to Sr Jean's funeral...
