She's hilarious and very straightforward. I love her to death even though I've only had 1 class with her. I got a B for not really studying or reading.
She can be quite vulgar but funny. Likes to pick on people, just joke back with her and don't take anything too personally. Tests aren't too bad and the paper is simple.
She's a stand up comedian, and she makes class humorous and interesting. Not that easy. I really think she's a great teacher though.
worst class ever. She even admits that she doesn't teach and that her TA does all the work. Her tests are HARD and she doesn't care if you do well, it' s less work for her. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!

She's absolutely hilarious if obscenity and profanity are up your alley...She's tough on the outside but really cares...PULL YOUR WEIGHT--she hates people that don't do their share of work...tests are tough but overall a very entertaining class
She's hilarious and has a quick tongue. Go to class and read your textbook (majority of test questions come from the text).
She very much enjoys using obscenities, you won't want to miss class because they're so entertaining. My only complaint is that she never taught the class, it was all guest lectures. I definitely recommend taking her.
She's really nice, pretends not to care about anyone but she really does. Most entertaining class I've had. It's worth attending some lectures just for fun even if you're not in the class. Tests aren't too hard, no other grades.

Anne was the best professor I ever had at JMU. She will test your ability to handle her wit and sarcasm and if you can she will take good care of you. I would not have gotten through school without her. Thanks, Anne. (Elvis)

She is hilarious!!! Extremely sarcastic and downright evil-- but it's funny. Her class is stand-up comedy and enjoyable. Her tests are hard so study a LOT.

This class is pretty tough. BUT, if you study and pay attention in class- you'll be straight. There are no other grades other than the tests- so study!!
I don't really know why she has a low rating. She is hilarious and makes you think...tests ARE NOT hard if you read and go to class. I got a B+ and I had more difficult classes that semester.
EASY class. just go to class and take notes and make sure you read the chapters in the book before the tests and you will do very well. she's definitely humorous and makes everything she teaches interesting
Hard class just b/c she takes stuff from the book sometimes & you don't know what to expect on the tests - but a VERY amusing class b/c she doesn't care what comes out of her mouth! Started out hating it b/c of tests but take her for a good laugh!!!

I dont know how I passed, but I did. Be prepared to be picked on a lot. If you are in a Frat/Sor, from NJ, or what ever she feels like picking on. At first I hated it and was offened, got to love the woman! She is GREAT!!!!!
One of my favorite classes! She is so funny and makes me look forward to coming to class, just to see what she will say next. And she does say ANYTHING. interesting class. Study hard for the tests and read the book and you'll be fine.

Anne is hilarious! This class may not be the easiest, but it is definitely the most fun! The tests are pretty hard, but if you go to class and study, you'll be fine! Take this class!!!

You never had and never will have a professor like Anne. She's really funny but at the expense of others, she picks on people for things like where they are from and how they dress. Take her but only if you can handle possible public humiliation.
She is bitter and angry about anything college students do or are involved in. If she wanted to voice her opinions and make fun of others for a living, she should think about a talk show instead of teaching a course for students interesting in learning..
Anne is a great teacher! She's tough but you will learn a lot in the class. Study the book for tests... and get a sense of humor if you don't have one before you take this class... so funny!!

she is so funny, knows how to keep her students entertained. Can be a little intimidating at first, but she grows on you. You dont have to go to class, but she rewards you if u do, she will give you hints as to what to focus on for exams.
She is a very funny lady but her tests are kinda hard. You can definiately get a B but and A is not likely. She will keep your attention but you have to read the book.

She is AWESOME- she talks a big game, but is actually a DOLL. She is SO nice and SO helpful- if you take an interest she'll bend over backwards to help you out. She likes people who are smart and does NOT like excuses. One of the best professors @ JMU.

Take this class only if you're a comm. major. Anne tried to be funny and witty, but often comes across as overly sarcastic and rude. She loves to make things more difficult than they have to be, but the course is interesting.
Anne is a good teacher, but HARD. I study my butt off for her tests and still manage bad grades...she is a bit scary at times, but definitely funny. She's not very open to opposing views and sorta intimidating..but she knows her stuff.
go to class, read the book, pay attention. she is entertaining and will keep you on your toes, challenging but not impossible. you will have fun in this class and learn too.
Really funny lady, i'd say she encompasses the feminist/clinton groupie roll quite well.. she's not afraid to give you her opinion, a little abrasive about it, but in the end she is all about her students doing well, learned a lot, one of my favorite classes.
Oh anne. I miss this class. Tests are not that hard-mostly from the book which is easy reading. You'll want to go to class just to see what she's going to do next. Not easy, but def doable and worth it.
She thinks she's always right and you can never challege anything she says. She changes her mind a lot about presentations or tests and doesnt tell you, then takes points off anyways. Doesn't like to be told she's wrong, which happens a lot. Wait for the new health comm professor b4 taking anne
this woman is a nut. she thinks that she is funny and she is not. However the hardest part of this class is sitting through it wondering why you wasted your day to come listen to a psycho rant about her own views. I learned nothing in this class, but the tests weren't hard to pass.
If you don't love this professor it's because you're probably failing the class...SHE IS WONDERFUL: FUNNY AND SMART...LOVES STUDENTS.

Her tests are from the reading and notes, but they aren't overly easy. Someone told me that there was only one A in her class this past semester. The first week she makes fun of everyone in the class, so make sure if you take her you blend in if you don't want to be pointed out.

Anne is my favorite professor! I never wanted to skip her class. She is so funny, and so annimated, you just have to laugh at her. Tests are difficult, even when you read and take notes. She really cares about comm and you have to be dedicated to take her, but it is well worth it! I would recommend sitting up front so she gets to know you, it helps

Anne is hilarious! Her lectures were always entertaining, but take GREAT notes, READ THE BOOK, and study harder than you feel you need to. You have no chance of making it otherwise. Its a difficult class, but there was never a dull moment. She loves the people who sit up front, but picks on them mercilicy.
Anne is soooo funny... this class is really hard and the tests are near impossible but just sitting in her class made it worth it.. she's definitly the most entertaining prof. i've had a jmu... even if you don't take her u have to go sit in on one of her classes at least once just for the experience.
Anne was the most AMAZING teacher in the world. Her class was so interesting, you barely have to read (her text is a novel written by a doctor) and she has wonderful class discussions and presentations. I got over a 100% in the class. If she knows your name, she will add 30 points to your grade at the end just because. TAKE ANNE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!
Funniest bit in the world. I had a friend come with me to class just to listen how weak(from va beach means funny)this lady is. HOWEVER, her lectures stray away from the powerpoint a lot, but its worth how funny she is. Also, its a buttload of reading, her tests are STRAIGHT from lecture/book. our first test was half from lecture and half book.
Yeah you have to take notes and read the book, but if you do, the tests aren't that hard. And the experience of the class is COMPLETELY worth it. She really knows her stuff and know how to keep class interesting... if you get the chance, TAKE HER. Never a dull moment. Loved it.

Hard class if you don't study. Must read the book. Tests are very tricky, but multiple choice. No final exam, but does not use a 10 point grading scale, so that sucks. Just don't tick her off and it wont be too bad. She has a sense of humor, and don't forget to turn your cell phones to vibrate. Exams are videotaped, and she fails cheaters.
looks like chistopher walken. do not take. not an easy A or B. the grade is comprised of just 4 tests, so if your not a good test-taker, dont take. Half of her clases are lecturers telling you about other classes in the communication major. she is very unwilling to help you, says that she deletes emails and not to email her.
ugh yes she may be funny in class but theres a diff. between trying to 'weed out' & being the most unnaproachable prof i've had @ JMU. asked her if I could see MY answers from a test so I could compare them to the right answers I'd looked up in the book and was told no. Then she let the next girl see the answer key. yeah thats fair? still got a B+
Had her in the late 90s - then went to graduate school. This woman taught me (prepared me, scared me, called me out and helped me suck it up) in a such a way that I knew how to study, how to approach professors, how to prepare for anything. The skills she taught helped me graduate top in my Masters level studies. TAKE HER CLASS!
i agree with whoever said she looks like Christopher Walken haha. i think he might have been a better teacher though. learned more from the book. the one good thing is she doesn't have favorites - either doesn't like you at all or doesn't know you & doesn't care to. be careful...she grades on a 9 point grading scale to make things extra difficult.
waste of my time. if you have to take SCOM 240, I recommend taking whoever else teaches it. Her tests are easy, the class is boring, i learned nothing. i was angry/annoyed/dumber everytime i left the classroom
Absolutely the worst professor I have had in my three years so far at JMU. She is COMPLETELY unwilling to help students, and is stubborn beyond reason. I got a B+ in the class, but had to GRADE MY OWN test because she couldn't run it through the scantron. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER! An awful experience in every way.

I can literally say that this woman is the worst teacher and person I've ever met. She has absolutely no morals or ethics and 70% of her lectures are taught by someone else anyway. Guest speaker my ass. More like LAZY ****. She even made fun of fat people the first class. The morbidly obease girl next to me started to cry. What a great prof. :-)
Anne is probably the toughest teacher I've had this semester but she pushes you to work hard and do well. She makes the lectures interesting though, and fun to go to. The people that don't think she's funny need to get a life because they suck and have no sense of humor. The tests are hard, but she's worth it.
Funny person, BAD teacher. She does not care about you at all. Ask questions with caution b/c she will literally call you stupid if she sees fit. *Grades on a 9-point scale* which means a 90 is not an A. Funny because she is blunt and clever, but can be very mean. Not in the least bit helpful. Take with caution.
For such an educated woman(?), you'd think you might actually learn something by taking her class.

Anne makes you push yourself...her class is not insanely easy, which is to be expected for a class that is intro to the major.She has helped me a lot with questions I have had about the SCOM major.She is one of the most legendary and knowledgeable professors in the SCOM dept. and I am sad that she is retiring.
Anne is the best prof I've ever had. She is witty and blunt but knows her****. She is extremely intelligent and loves to have fun in class. I have learned so much from her, not only academically, but about life in general. She is my favorite professor of all time and I wish I could have her by my side to help me through the rest of my life.

To all of the undergrads that are whining about her being mean/unfair/cold/etc- welcome to the real world- I took her in the early 2000's and she prepared me for what could come my way once you leave the bubble of JMU- not everyone you report to in life is going to be warm, funny, friendly, or even have your best interests at heart- I owe her alot.
She taught me more about communication and life than any other professor i have ever had.
one of the better professors at JMU. She know her material. She had a great sense of humor and cared about students.
