she's a very boring teacher. i fell asleep in her class. she doesn't care too much about the more advanced students. she mostly cares about the very slow ones.her quizzes comes out liek a elementary math book.my god this class was my mistake.and when she passes out the homework.she goes over it in a very mono tone voice.for teaching i give her an F
This class online was a breeze. she had excellent lessons drawn up and her tests and assignments are really straight forward and reasonable. She is real quick to reply to your questions and she has no mandatory discussions! I would definitely recommend her.
Had her for Pre-Calculus online. It was easy to get an A, but the teacher had no influence on that. Asked her several questions and she did a poor job of answering them. When people asked questions in the discussion board she would take days to respond and gave one sentence answers with bad grammar. She doesn't seem to be passionate about teaching.
I took Precalculus online and it was easy. She is definitely very helpful and would take her for future classes. She knows her stuff and addressed every confusing concept with clarity. Easy "A" for me and I would credit her assistance for it.
Excellent teacher! Very helpful and patient for slow learners like me. Precalculus online was a breeze. I would take her again for future math classes. Got an A!
Excellent teacher! Very helpful and patient for slow learners like me. Got an "A" in PRECALCULUS, can't beat that! I'll take her again for higher math subjects.
Great Instructor! Very patient, she give you two chances to take your tests. Always available when you need help. I took this class previous with another instructor and failed this time I'm getting an A! I will take another one of her higher level math classes!
Great online experience. Took her for Math 46. Promptly answers message board questions, is clear and helpful. Allows 2 attempts for each test. Great notes and tutorial videos on the website. Would definitely take her again. Got a B.
A straight forward and solid online class experience. All the resources were organized, with clear and concise notes with access to tutorial videos that walk you through each and every problem. I find online math to be a much more rewarding experience than taking it in the classroom. Overall a great experience.
Took her for stats 119, and lets be honest... online math is not easy. She tries to make it more simple and is willing to help and answer as many questions as possible. Just very flexible and understanding that we all have lives outside of school. Great teacher!
Took the class partially online and the online portion was easy. Very easy. The final was in-class and was pretty difficult. It is weighted to count for 25% of your final grade. If you have to take a stats class, I would recommend taking this one.
I served my time in the statistics penal colony and got a B. Lucky for me this teacher weights the final only 25% of grade and I had a solid A before sitting for the final. The final looked, to me, nothing like the online work we had done. The online portion and tests were good but extremely time consuming. Gloag was fair and responsive.
I took this class partially online. The online portion was pretty easy. The tests looked exactly like the homework and the homework was basically try until you get it right. Professor Gloag replies to e-mails and questions really quickly. The only hard part of this class was the final, which looked a little different from the other tests. Take her!
I had her for a partially online class. She's very responsive and nice. The class does give a lot of homework but you have two weeks to do it and the chapter tests are just the homework questions. She lets you do open note for the final and even bring your lap top to use excel.
I took the partially online course. Professor Gloag is very helpful and will respond to emails and discussion boards quickly. Like the others have said, the homework is exactly like the tests. Doing the homework is a drag, but very necessary for your grade and tests. Easiest A so take her!
I was very disappointed in Dr.Gloag's online class. She copied and pasted all of her responses to students in the discussion areas, did not answer questions in a timely manner, and in essence did not teach. All the work we did was in MathLab, so the problems and solutions were all in a program. I feel she essentially did nothing. I don't recommend!
Not a good teacher. She doesn't really teach, all her examples of problems are right out of the book. You might as well just read the book and teach yourself. The homework is online, the tests are not like the homework. But she lets you have notes for the tests.
Professor Gloag is SUPER easy! She lets you have notes on every quiz, even the final, and lets you retake a quiz you got the lowest score on. Also, she's always available before and after class for homework questions. If you are looking to get an easy A, she is your ticket!
Anne is a great teacher for calc. Extremely knowledgeable and she does all her problems out by hand, step by step. All homework is online, drops lowest test score, and class activities are weighted well. Always willing to re-explain a problem or answer any question. Great teacher!
Dont be intimidating from the first few lectures (reading off slides-reviews from precal) once youre in derivatives (chap3?) she will do work on the board/projector. Homework are online, dont fall behind.. its good practice for the exam. Drop the lowest grade on the exam. No quizzes. She is pretty cool and positive. I was hoping she teaches cal2 ;(
She seems like a great teacher but math shouldn't be done online, it should be done by hand. The WebAssign thing is very frustrating!
Great teacher. She explains really well on the board & she's very reasonable with the homework. Can teach a little too fast at times.
She was nice but her class was boring. She goes pretty fast and the material is confusing. She tries to help but to me it wasn't helpful. She is really nice though, she just didn't explain the material well.
She is definitely the best math professor I have taken. She is sweet and will extend HW if you ask. Cheat sheet for tests, practice test done in groups right before the real one. You can't slack off in any calc class, so this class is probably as easy as one could make a calc class. Take her and don't look back.
Anne is truly an amazing math professor. Extremely knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to help any of her students. Would recommend her to anyone at any math level.
You dont need a textbook, just her website and the mystatslab. Use her lab hours like the bible she helps alot. I suck at math but I just sat in her office every other day for like 3 hours and had her reexplain the lessons to me. She goes fast in class but you can use a paper on every test including the final. Ace the test do the homework get an A.
Prof Gloag is very laid back and I felt that the pace of the class was perfect. One caveat is to not take the class too lightly. Many people acted as if they got the material no problem and would frequently leave early but when it came to the tests somehow the class average was always in the 60s which seemed silly because her tests were pretty easy
Very BAD 'teacher'. Good person but not good as a teacher. Class was at a good pace in the beginning of the year as long as the homework was completed, then it became extremely hard to keep up with the amount of homeworkstudying. The answers are given to the hw's but not the solutions! Good luck trying to find someone to teacher you.
Such a great professor! I highly recommend her. She is outstanding. If you have any questions she will always answer. Make sure you fully understand before moving on. She's give extra credit on the homework if you turn it in within a week of it being assigned. All quiz questions come from the homework
The role of being a teacher is to explain things in such a way that the students will go home smarter than when they showed up. I got nothing out of the class. Easy 1st month of class but once everything settled down it was time to lock my bedroom door and throw away the key. Lots of studying! Not explained in class very well! Fast teaching style.
After taking calc with stats with her, Gloag once again proves she's the best math professor at Miramar. She's incredibly straight forward with what she wants and her study guides are basically her tests. She gives free points with easy assignments and tons of extra credit. She's also very nice and will help you whenever need it. Highly recommended
Professor Gloag is pretty amazing. She is clear, and always willing to help. There is a lot of work, so you need to keep up. On the upside, if you do the homework on time you even get extra credit. The class is not hard but the concepts get tricky so ask for lots of help, and you can definitely get an A.
Calculus is a tough subject regardless of who you take it with. Anne is a fantastic teacher. Her explanations are easy to understand. There is no curve but there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Take advantage of them!!! It adds up at the end. If you have questions, use her office hours. She is very helpful.
she will show you how to do the problem but struggles to teach you how to solve it on your own. her grading policy is fair and she does allow test corrections does E.C. Be prepared to go to office hours at least 3 times a week, study with friends, get a tutor and don't fall behind because catching up is almost impossible
Unfortunately necessary to my major, Prof. Gloag was the one of two Calculus 3 classes offered. She assigned two "projects" as busy work, and she double downs on the hardest parts of exams for her final. She offers extra credit as a minor reprieve from tough grading. Her lectures are far from helpful, strongly influenced by examples from book.
I rate her one of the professors that actually helped me to learn something. It is not an stressful class. Homework is not assigned. Doing homework though is helpful to get prepared for the test. Test questions are similar to the homework problems. There are total of 7 test and 2 finals. Its very easy to get A in the class. I Highly recommend it
I had professor Anne for my online trig class. At the beginning of the semester I fell behind, by about three weeks (for medical reasons). She was MORE than accommodating to help me catch up. Online courses are not for everyone, but I loved it. She makes sure you have all the resources and information you need to succeed in this course.
Easy. A test every 2 weeks which includes an in class and take home portion. You get to do the in-class test with a partner and you get a cheat sheet (front and back). The take home test is harder, but you have a week to complete it. Drops your worst test scores, one in-class and one take-home. Homework is not mandatory. I would take her again
Professor Gloag was the first professor that was able to help me understand math and actually enjoy it (yeah, I know, right?). She allows us to take group quizzes/tests before the actual quiz/test and its the exact same one. She really wants you to understand math and how applicable it can be in real life. I would definitely take her again.
She was my favorite teacher last semester. She is very nice, cares about her students' success, & really tries to clarify the material if you are having trouble. She will even offer to help when you don't ask. I have had a lot of trouble with math in the past but she really helped me more than any other math teacher I've ever had. She is great!
She actually helps you understand the problem. Easy homework. Plenty of extra credit available. Got a B for minimal work.
She is very nice and easy to get A if you do stuff.
She makes her class unnecessarily difficult without preparing you for it. The class moves extremely quickly so it's impossible to catch up. I am not bad at math, I got an A all throughout every single math class and calculus easily, but got my first B in her class, and looks like I'll get another in 255 with her. Very difficult exams and tests.
She literally writes and prints a packet of notes for every student and as long as you follow along with the packet and ask questions as you go then you'll pass the class. There is a lot of problems for homework but she gives you until the end of the chapter to finish it all.
Professor Gloag is so nice but her lectures aren't the easiest to follow. Once you get the hang of it then its pretty easy to do well in this class though. The hw isn't graded but the problems on it are the same as the quizzes and even the tests have similar problems. Sometimes the quizzes can be hard but they were all take home for my class.
So Professor Gloag is super helpful. She is very clear and knows very much what she is talking about. I have seriously never had a teacher care so much about her students. She does give weekly (or even bi-weekly) take home quizzes which are basically mandatory homework. She gives all the tools to learn, and makes her class pretty easy
Her lecture writing is a bit disorganized, so good luck trying to follow, parts of the problems are in random empty spaces of the board. HW is not collected, however you will need it to pass with a dissent grade (practice, practice). Some mandatory outside of class activities +extra credit, so if you work you can forget about those.
Gloag is fantastic, she is very helpful if you ask for help. She does move at a fast pace but she will stop and slow down if you raise your hand and ask questions. She assigns weekly quizzes which can be tedious, but here homework is optional. She also gives about 5% worth of extra credit opportunity and her test are very similar to the quizzes.
Super nice, and clear lecturer! She gives out quizzes for each couple sections/chapters. If you study those quizzes and know them, you will get an A on the test. Also offers test corrections. Drops your lowest test and take home test. Total of 4 tests, a final, a project, multiple quizzes, and group activities. A lot of extra credit opportunities.
Her class was amazing. I am a very hands-on learner so it was awesome that she goes through so many problems in class. She is very thorough and goes through every step on each problem. If you're nervous about taking 255 (which I was), I highly recommend this class.
One of the best teachers i have ever had in my entire school career, she makes sure you understand the lecture/problem. she will not leave anyone behind and makes you feel comfortable if you dont understand something. sometimes she makes mistakes on her own problems but who doesn't! i would give her 11 out of 10. would totally take her class again!
Her teaching style is very clear and makes it easy to grasp difficult concepts. Sometimes she goes fast but just raise your hand and ask and she will respond.
Very clear teaching style, and everything taught is what is tested on. Gives prolific extra credit and all assignments have a purpose, which is building understanding. Highly recommend for linear algebra in particular, and probably other classes as well. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get points towards the "activity" category for showing up.
It was my first time taking an intersession class and I was grateful to have such an amazing teacher. With her knowledge in her lectures, it was easy for me, a nonmath skill person, to learn math in such a short time frame. Very helpful during office hours. Her care in student's learning is what is most important when choosing a teacher.
Best math professor a student can ask for! I was terrified of math before her class. She is extremely patient and caring. If you need help, go to tutoring before or after class. You also get extra credit for going! Her textbook is FREE online. Her grading criteria is clear and she is really good about entering grades on Blackboard quickly.
She is one of the greatest math professor here in Miramar college. If you do all the HW you'll get an A. She is always welling to help and boost your grade up in any way possible.
The "flex" schedule class is a disaster. I log well over 6 hours in the math lab a week and still have no idea what I am doing. I went to one optional lecture where she just worked problems without giving concepts and one morning session that she never showed up to. She gives questions with 3-5 part answers on exams but didn't give partial credit.
She was an alright teacher. Personally my biggest struggle was actually going to class. I had a B+ average on the tests so the material itself wasnt hard but her class felt long and boring and we had "take home quizzes" on the daily which defeated the purpose of not having homework because we never had in class quizzes. Overall would not take again
I took the lab class and it was a LOT of constant work, however she is a fair grader. She gives opportunities to fix your hw and offers extra credit opportunities. She is very nice and seems excited about the subject. Con is she is very busy and doesn't have a lot of time for you. I would recommend the class but be ready to work.
I can't express enough the gratitude i have towards this professor, I took this class at city and didnt pass it. I took her and I got B, math is really hard for me, I did all the hw but did terrible in the case studies and test and still passed she gives you so many extra credit is crazy. She answers all of your questions even on summer, I love her
I ended up a really great grade but I worked my butt off. She's caring and really wants to help but honestly I had to learn and Look up a lot of material because she simply didn't lecture in a way that was effective. Do the homework and extra credit it'll save you.
She is demanding and easy. She does a lot of problems in class, sometimes even does hw problems or ones that are just like the hw. Assigns loads of hw, but has ample xc opportunities. If you work hard and go to her office hours for help you will do well. Also, her math knowledge is rock solid. Lazy students: she's not for you.
she is very sweet and caring, take her class and don't wait any longer
Strong advocate of learning by doing. Works and assigns many problems-- a great prof for like-minded students. Used a free textbook. Offered a few % of x credit. Had math lab and off. hours. One of few Miramar math profs with a PhD, so she has serious math chops, but formerly taught HS, so seemed able to help less advanced students as well.
One of the most helpful teachers I've encountered at Miramar, provides a lot of good content and resources on blackboard, and as others have said very solid in her math game as she's taught from highschool level to higher level classes. Well-rounded.
Easy going. Funny. Made my math anxiety a bit better. Lots of homework but its for your own good! Gives you second chances to better your test scores. Fun workshops.
In a word: Fantastic! Very caring, patient, and enthusiastic about math. I went into this course dreading math and left with a far more positive outlook due to Professor Gloag's teaching. Highly recommend taking a math course with this professor.
as this was her first semester teaching math 245, her slides were pretty much a replica of the textbook, lots of homework every week, weekly quizzes, biweekly online writing/technology assignments, two group math projects (fairly easy); offers extra credit if you attend the recreational math sessions that she occasionally offers; relatively easy A
Myself had her as a professor for 96x and 141. Her classes are pretty fast in content. The amount of take home "quiz's" and online homework can be overwhelming. She wont usually put formulas on the tests. What made it difficult is she doesn't give partial credit for her tests, so make sure you study hard.
I actually took math 96 but it didnt let me choose that class. Let me start off by saying that she is an amazing Professor and truly has a passion for teaching, she is very caring and is always available to help you out. If you have the opportunity to take her for any math class take her!!! Explains everything very well and straightforward.
Professor is nice but Discrete shouldn't take more time than Calc 3. Professor has something due every class and days there aren't class, just the most busy work you've ever had in college. So much hand holding. If you liked high-school, you'll love this class.
Professor Gloag is very intelligent and she seems to genuinely care about the success of her students and that really reflects in the way she teaches.
A rare gem from a student who has taken math all nearly every level (K-12, college, university). Gloag's enthusiasm, communication skills, & care for her students is almost unheard of for math professors at this level, & its what makes her really special. She is kind, dorky, and a teacher you know you can always reach out to for help. Shes the best
I took Gloag for 245 and 254. She is an amazing professor and cares so much about the class that she does everything to help you succeed. You will however get a lot of homework in the class each week and she does have you complete an individual project. But tests are easy if you study/review the quizzes or read the notes from the textbook/lecture.
Anne is overall a really cool professor! she explains things super well and has a good way of connecting to students but the downside is that her lecture videos are all in the same monotone voice which makes it incredibly difficult to stay attentive or even awake
Cool teacher, class isnt super hard. Only issue is her lectures. Soooooo boring which makes it incredibly hard to focus/ pay attention to anything going on without getting distracted by anything else.
Great teacher.
Professor Gloag is a really nice teacher and I think thats why she has good ratings. Her quizzes + lectures are okay, shes a fair grader. The only problem I had with her class was the final (200 pts), there was no study guide nor any review and she gave us a quiz prior to the final. Keep in mind that her quizzes are basically chapter tests (50 pts)
Professor Gloag is amazing, I absolutely loved her class. I have not taken any math class in over ten years, so I was very hesitant and rusty at first. But Anne is just an excellent teacher. Very patient and always willing to help her students, she goes step by step and does not leave anyone behind. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit.
It is not an easy class. there are tons of homework, homework and quiz each week. However, Professor Gloag is a very easy grader. as long as you do something and submit homework, you will get full credit. also there are a lot of extra credit if you don't do well on quiz. no exam, only homework, tech writings, quiz.
This professor is amazing. She's very calm, patient and clearly wants to help her students. She will give you all the material including videos to succeed in her class. Make sure you participate in the office hours, she will give you extra credit for that. A wonderful teacher!
Lots of homework and quizzes. The coursework load is equivalent to five-unit course, not 3-unit one as it is. Not mandatory attendance but if you dont join you cant finish the class work participation which are counted 10 points each
Lots of papers to write, 5 Writing/coding assignments, 5 investigations, and finally 1 project. This was no easy class and she treated it like it like a 5 unit course when it was 3 units. Discrete Math is not easy however I recommend taking Symbolic logic before this class. She has the potential to be an excellent professor if it wasn't online.
The amount of busy work in this class prevented me from understanding the math. You have essays/coding projects, investigations, participation quizzes, 10 quizzes (more like tests, usually took me the full 2 hours), group project, long lecture videos to watch before class and then actual class. The quiz/test aren't easy, but fairly easy grader.
This class is not hard. but so many quiz, homework, and writing assignments. Professor Gloag is nice and easy grader. but the amount of assignments in this class is overwhelming. you will spend a lot of time in this class, no time for other classes. so make sure you don't take more than 14 units, including this class. otherwise, God bless you.
The workload and suggested due dates were all laid out on canvas, which was nice. Aside from quizzes, all assignments were due at the end of the semester, which made it feel less stressful. However, I will say this was a difficult course, with about 30 hrs/week of video lectures/hw to prepare for the weekly quizzes. Would be best in 16-wk semester.
Gloag tries to make sure everyone grasps the material and teaches a very basic understanding of stats. Personally not my style (bit boring), but easy grading and assignments. She shows you how to do all the assignments and what to expect.
This was a 6-week summer course everything was laid out in the modules. WATCH THE LECTURES. Tough grader but fair. Definitely expects you to spend 30 hours a week on the material, and tests aren't easy. She was a hard professor but you should attend office hours,1 hour no rescheduling even if she's late she doesn't care! don't procrastinate at all!
Its a 5 unit class but feels like a 9 unit class. Very heavy on lectures. Will take a ton of your time to complete. Even on a 16 week course. Textbook free. Nice teacher. I clicked I wouldn't take again, but somehow RMP website doesn't allow me to pick that option.
Good professor, however, most of the time her homework didn't fully align with the content on the test. I had to cram the study guide 2-3 nights before in order to scrape together an A on the tests. I had an A in the class until the final which dropped me to a B. Wouldn't take her class again due to work load and the lack of teaching from her.
Never met a teacher so devoted to their field before. She really enjoys the math and is open to criticism when making a mistake and does the lectures in front of you in such a compelling format (new concept, example problem, try it yourself, repeat). It's teachers like these that remind aspiring engineers that math can be as cool as it is difficult
She is honestly not a bad option. She's the head of the math department and its clear that she knows the material very well, but at times she explains things in ways that only someone who already understands the material would understand. Don't avoid her, but if theres a better option go with them
Professor Anne is caring and knowledgeable. Be prepared to work as there are a lot of assignments. However, her grading is designed so you can get a good grade even if you miss some assignments or points on exams.
I took her Calculus class with support because I was ver nervous about taking Calculus. She makes students very comfortable through routine, lots of time in class to work independently or with other students. Exams represent lectures and homework well. No surprises. She has lots of office hours and is very accessible outside class.
Professor Anne is a good instructor. She cares about her students and she's easy to talk to outside of class, which is nice if you're looking for some extra help. Plus, she really helps you get through the material. I took Calculus with her, and she made it a lot less stressful than I thought it would be.
If I could give her a 6 or more out of 5, I would. You will absolutely love Professor Anne. My best advice is to make a study group because there are a couple of group activities that happen. Her exams are exactly like the homework. I will genuinely miss having her as a professor. I went from hating math to loving math because of her.
