Interesting and funny, but demanding..overall very good.
I took her Sex, Sci, and Antro Inquiry class. It was a very interesting class and very entertaining. It was pretty demanding though, however, I did learn a lot.

SEX, SCIENCE, and ANTHRO is a good class and you learn a lot, but the tests are impossible to study for.
Thought she was tough-- expects you to know everything and her tests are cumulative (sp?). She tries to make it interesting, though, and I give her credit for that. I would consider taking her again if I had to.
REALLY hard, you have to study hardcore for the tests. Stay away if you don't want to work
believes in weird theories. unclear about expecations, inconsistent grader. it's not worth it for a 100 level class.
GREAT TEACHER! I took Human Ost. with her and learned so much I couldn't believe it. It is very challenging but if you put in the time you wil amaze yourself.
nice teacher, brings treats to class occasionally...easy, easy A.
Dr. Grauer is extremely helpful and really a great teacher. She makes science manageable for those who don't like science.
Do not take this class.
Evolution of Human Disease rocks. She makes you work hard, but damned if you don't leant something my friends. It's worth all the time and effort to be taught by her.
I have never had a teacher make me work so hard. But i walked away with so much knowledge. she was an excellent teacher, i wish i could take more classes with her
I love her. All you haters can hate--but you are probably low expectation and did not put the effort into studying and thererfore got the grade that you deserved.Perhaps if you applied yourself you would be the one getting an easy A, if you did any of the work at all.

not a ton of work but class is challenging- quizes and 2 tests b4 final, relatively interesting readings - she can be seen as inconsistent in grading- helpful outside of class-takes attendance- talking in class helps
AWESOME teacher!! Her tests are somewhat ambigious but if you take good notes and really listen to what she says it is an EASY A! No readings until the end of the sem. and those books are not too complicated. Very easy-going and spontaneous. I can not see a person fail her class. Take her!
Dr. Grauer is very understanding, very fair, and very accessible for help outside of class. It helps to be really interested in anthropology, of course, but I think anyone could enjoy her classes. Very interesting.
sigh...i don't even know what to say
I had so much fun in this class! She always brought food, and was always in a good mood. She was very helpful and knowledgeable as well
She is very assessible out of class, always willing to help, but her class is difficult. There is a lot of material covered, and you have to put in the work to study. Overall 3 tests and study your ass off for them
Very boring....tries to make it a biology class. Not very helpful when you ask a question in class....tests are very confuzing and cumulative.
There is no doubt that Anne Grauer is a brilliant woman who knows her field very well. But I think she should soften her teaching methods a little. She didn't come across as very approachable to me. I started her class as an ANT major ...now I am a PLSC major. Exams are very ambiguious indeed!
if you are taking this class to complete core, like myself...do not take this class. the tests are impossible and she's not much better. i believe she knows her stuff, but for a 101 class she expected you to know too too much for the tests. no extra credit, no papers, just 3 tests.

Really intense class, but the material was fantastic, if you were a pretty good researcher and speaker ( which I wasnt) it will be an intellectual breeze, some reading but nothing a college student cannot handle. Take her she is wonderful.
Interesting class. Intense note taking.only 3 tests. for tests just read book & review notes
tests can be super hard! you have to study really well. there is a quiz every week that is easy and a presentation at the end of the semester. she is intense but interesting. if you go to class and take notes, it's an easy B.
sucks
Impossible teacher. All questions extremely ambiguous. Not helpful at all, even outside of the class.
Dr Grauer is awsome. She presents the material in a easy to understand manner. Tests are very hard, but if you devote enough time to material it is not difficult at all. would take her class many more times if i could
She really is impossible. Very unclear. Pays too much attention to little details and not enough to the bigger picture. Students do presentations the whole semester so she really doesn't teach much. Her expectations are not consistant.
GREAT class!!! Really made me think AND really made me stop bull^&* myself--- you have to read the material and study! She's easy to talk to and really cares, too.
Class on evolution of human disease....was horrible. Pays too much attention to little details and not enough to the bigger picture. Students do presentations the whole semester and she really doesn't add anything. Feels the need to talk constantly, reiterating what the students said. Isn't clear. Doesn't grade very well.
this class was horrible. be prepared to take a quiz every class. is a very hard grader. if you dont need to take this class dont. this is one class that will lower your GPA

She "cares" about her students, but will torture you with impossible exams! She's a nice woman, but ridiculous grader. Will take off the majority of points on a question if you're missing one part. Going in to talk to her doesn't help at all. It just confuses you more. Avoid her if possible.
teaches class like it's for anthro majors..big lecture-u need to be in class for notes only-doesn't affect grade. tests half objective half essay. a couple of online quizzes. don't really need book at all.
Hated this class. She's one of the most boring professors I've come across. Her lectures are long and tedious. She makes no effort to make class time interesting. Her exams are ridiculously hard and she's a hard grader. Would take 1/2 pt off for missing a term :( Avoid this class if possible.Run! Run! Run
Human Ost is the hardest class I've ever taken at Loyola, by far, but i've also learned the most. The challenge is worth it...but it's definitely not a class if you don't want to work.
Dr. G is one of the best profs I've had at LUC. She teaches in a way that makes things last in your memory. This class is hard tho. You have to be able to say what bone it is and from what side of the body from looking at little pieces. By the the end of the sem. u will feel so accomplished and proud that u made it through!
anne graeur is an amazing teacher. she is energetic, helpful, fun, intelligent, everything u look for in a teacher. she follows the syllabus and if she doesnt she will give you plenty of notice. plus she might change your test to later, which is always a plus. tests are hard, quizzes are hard, you cant **** an essay. but she is great
omg she was ridiculous with grading! and her tests were insane i would study all week and it still wasn't enough never properly answers a question and u need to go to all the classes. notes are very important!
she great. i loved her class. you will learn a lot. all i did is take good notes and the day before the quiz i studied them. the questions in the quiz are straight forward. in the test however, she want you to apply what you learned. but because she explains everything in class the exams should be easy.
Human Osteology w/ Dr. Grauer = BEST CLASS EVER!!!
Grauer doesn't take bs from anyone, but it's easy to gain her respect. For someone not really interested in science, she was amazing at making everything relevant and interesting. Fantastic lecturer, fantastic person, might be one of the most influential instructors I've ever had.
Grauer is a great professor. I've never enjoyed or understood bio/genetics before but she makes everything clear and interesting. Her analogies are very helpful. She has a great sense of humor that lightens the class. Class isn't easy once you get into classifications. Go to class! I rarely, if ever, read the text book. Notes are key.
Prof. Grauer is the best professor I have ever had! The class is definitely hard, but she is an amazing teacher. She wants everyone to do well; however, she won't help if you don't come to class. TAKE HER
Professor Grauer may be a good teacher, but this class sucked. The exams and quizzes were extremely hard and she basically found any way she could to make you suffer in the class. DONT TAKE IF YOUR NOT AN ANTHRO MAJOR. Her lectures are boring and she always tries to trick you on the exams so you ultimately don't learn anything. Horrible class.
She is a good prof, but would of taken any other Anth 101 prof if I could. Her tests during the semester were not bad, but her final was impossible. She does curve the grades at the end of the semester. Ended up with an A-
Pretty tough class with difficult tests and exams, but they're passable. Don't think that you can sluff through without reading the material and end up with a grade any higher than a C. Anne is a great professor and a true master of her subject. Even if you're not into anthro, she keeps her class interesting and is very approachable.
Love her. You have to go to class. You have to take good notes. But you will get an A. I would take her. You'll understand the topic and become intrigued by it. Professor Grauer made me want to add Anth as a minor.
I love this woman. Seriously one of the funniest teachers I have had in college so far. Book this semester wasn't required, you just need to go to class. Class definitely isn't easy but if you study you will do great. And there are six online quizzes, a three tests and a final.
She's a really nice person, I showed up late for the final and was still able to take it no problem, but her tests are impossible! The final IS cumulative she will tell you that its not, but it totally is. Much harder than a 101 class needs to be.
I was doing so well in the class til the final! Hard exam...really interesting class and I'm glad I took it!
She is very knowledgeable but her class is very hard. You literally have to attend every class and take extremely detailed notes or else you will not get an A on the test. Her tests are very tough and her final is cumulative and very difficult. Completely killed my grade. The class is a good experience but if you want to keep up your GPA, skip.
Human Osteology is HARD, & I've taken orgo. There's only 25 spots open only in the fall semester, so email her in January. It's a LOT of extra work, and the ONLY way to study is to sign up for times in the lab b/c you're literally groping bones & such to obtain mental pictures & anatomical orientations. Grauer is very smart and tough. Not a blow off class.
Dr Grauer is one of the best professors at Loyola. While her class is extremely challenging, you learn so much and she is very willing to help. I still remember the first exam with all of the bone fragments and not healthy bone that we had been using and thinking wtf.. but it just made me work harder and I cherish the experience
Really, really reading intensive, but they're usually interesting. Random quizzes ensure the readings have been done;you won't be able to BS your way through. Lots of classes focused heavily on discussion/presentation of material by other students. Grauer is awesome and always willing to help. It's a hard class but I enjoyed it. Recommended.
If you dislike Dr. Grauer you must either A.) be a slacker, B.) have absolutely no interest in interesting subjects. Human Osteology was the best class of my college career. It was VERY tough. Expect to put in LONG hours! You'll get so much more out of this class than just bones - great prep for grad/med school. She has a great sense of humor too.
VDr. Grauer is very passionate about anthropology, but she tries to dumb down even the basic theories like evolution and uses these analogies that makes no sense to people on the receiving end. The one hundred level class was made too difficult, it was confusing what she wanted from you from on the TEST, and I certainly wouldn't take her again
I would not recommend taking her if you have one or two hard classes within the same semester.
Class requires a lot of work; extensive reading, intensive note taking, class discussion, frequent quizzes and one presentation. Enjoyed learning from this professor who places emphasis not on "knowing" but on understanding instead.
Grauer's grading criteria is so different from her own and you won't know where you're at in the class at any point in the semester unless you go see her. Osteology is THE most difficult class I've taken at Loyola, this is coming from a biol major having taken orgo. She will not give you partial credit and there is no extra credit for doing poorly
Dr. Grauer is AMAZING. Going into the class I thought that it was going to be dense material, but upon the first day she told us all that there are no tests and no quizzes. We don't even have to take notes. Very inspirational and passionate about the subject. You read a few articles and some chapters from STIFF and write 6 short, easy refections.
She's really tough and expects a lot out of her students. But that said, she also will help you all day long to understand the material. My one complaint is that her tests are really about applied knowledge so it can be difficult to transfer what you've learned to what you need to answer. I really recommend her though.
HAVE THE BOOK! Quizzes, Discussion and Exams are based off of the readings. Need to be proactive about at least skimming before class. Class was discussion based and exam questions were straight off of discussion conversations. Best way to do well on the Exams is to write down her comments during discussion. The class itself is super interesting!
Probably one of the most difficult classes I've had to take, but by far the coolest. You get real hands on experience with identifying bones and she and the TAs know how to lead you to the right answers. Would definitely take again.
You REALLY have to put into the work in Human Osteology; however, if you spend the time, you will get the grades that you want. If you are a commuter, I would stay away from this class as you have to spend hours studying in lab, which can become a pain if you have to drive a distance to get to school. Either way, you learn SO much from this class.
Evolution of Disease was definitely much harder than I had anticipated. Dr. Grauer is an incredibly kind professor, she wants her students to do well. Her lectures are lengthy and completing the long homework readings is necessary to understand the lecture. Overall a wonderful professor, just make sure you put in a lot of time for the class.
I absolutely LOVE Prof. Grauer. You can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches and wants everyone in her class to pass. We have quizzes and exams, but she lets you take your quizzes home and you're allowed a note card for the exams. If you go to class you will pass, but if you miss classes it's really hard to get a good grade.
I liked Professor Grauer, she's super funny and tries to make the subject super interesting. However, the class is pretty hard in my opinion. You really have to spend a good chunk of time studying for tests and doing the quizzes. It's really hard to miss a class and stay on track, you have to get super detailed notes.
Dr. Grauer is incredible. She is a very passionate person who makes lecture super interesting and really cares about you truly understanding the information. She is so inspirational, and she is also hilarious. Be aware that there will be lots of reading, and this is not a class where you can half ass things. Be sure to put in the work!
Overall an ok professor, and the content of the lectures is really interesting. This is a large class, but she does a great job at making it feel smaller with things like in-class group assignments. Most of the grade in this class is from quizzes and tests.
do NOT take Anne Grauer unless your an actual anthropology major or you hate yourself. She makes the 101 class way too difficult for students that have other classes to focus on. There is way too much information to learn for a 101 class, only take her if you want to learn a shit ton of information. If you have a busy schedule - do not take her.
Osteo is the hardest class I have ever taken and will likely ever take. But Dr. Grauer genuinely cares about her students and their success - she encourages everyone to reach out if they're struggling and withholds all judgment. She is incredibly knowledgeable and is so passionate about teaching that it makes even the longest lectures fly by.
Dr. Grauer is very knowledgeable & passionate, but pretty unapproachable. Her class was uncomfortable. Students would ask for clarification and she was condescending and rude. Some of her examples that were meant to make concepts easier, made them more confusing. Do not recommend for a core class, but ANTH majors may get something out of it.
I love Dr. Grauer and respect her as an anthropologist, but I would NOT recommend this course for students who are not majoring in anthropology. She is a tough grader, and all her exams are cumulative. In general, it's a tough class for anth 101.
I have taken Dr. Grauer for a couple of courses now and I will continue to take her classes. She tells you the first day how hard this class is and kind of scares it into you that if you do not come into the lab for study hours or miss class you will not pass and she couldn't be more right. Dr. Grauer knows what she is talking about.
Not an intro level course. Gives an insane amount of information and expects us to be able to apply, also expecting us to have the background info that she did not provide. Based almost only on exams which are hard and cumulative and most answers could be correct but one is "more" correct. Unless you are an anthropology major I wouldn't recommend.
Dr. Grauer is one of the most accomplished professors outside of Loyola and is a fantastic resource to have. 359 was extremely interesting, and I loved it. The only downside is Grauer's grading system. Two midterms are worth 50%, so if you get anything lower than a B+ on a single exam, it's not possible to get an A, even if you ace everything else.
Glad to see Grauer's class is still well-loved. ANTH 326 was hands down the most influential undergraduate class I took. It requires devoted time and hands-on experience to do well, but as a researcher and physician now, it even prepared me for the depth of med school - the level of detail rivals MSK radiology attending knowledge. Take it.
