she is the type who will only help you if you help yourself. dont argue with her or she wont like you. she is helpful when you take to her after class but she goes fast. YOU HAVE TO STUDY INORDER TO PASS!! she was very supportive of me while i was in the class and taking physiology at the same time

she scared the heck outta me after the first lecture. didn't understand anything in the class, but she's brilliant! sympathizes with her students. never ask anything you can find the answer to in the lab manual (esp. for the bacterial unknown).different person, but easy to get along with if you're nice. loved the lab.

Professor Hemsley is awesome!! She's a great professor and really understands her students. It may seem hard at first, but it gets easier. Be on her good side :)

Offers plenty of extra credit when you show interest and effort.This class is not easy, but she gives you powerpoint lectures, audio materials, and online access if you want them. She is a bit intimidating and can be rude, but she makes it very clear what her standards are and is quick to point out your miscomings.

I loved her!.. the class was way hard, but i liked her! just make sure not to get on her bad side.

great awesome lady. but if you're an idiot, jerk, and/or mainpulative, beware - she'll treat you the way you deserve. I've noticed that the people who have problems with her are those who want an A without working for it.

really pushes you to think in the real world .follow directions and dont be stupid and you will do great with her,she gets some bad press but give her a chance..she is great

Dr. Hemsley really knows her stuff, and she's quite respectable. Her personality is a bit strong, and she's no pushover when it comes to grades, but that's pretty standard in the world of biology. Her grading is fair, and you learn a lot in her class if you're prepared to try. I had only one complaint: viruses are not living organisms.

Dr. Hemsley is one of a kind.Very hard class, and she will not be pushed around. She prepares you for Nursing better than any other teacher at the school.Consider it bootcamp,and if you cant handle it then i hope i never see you at my bedside.The real world can be tough, do your work and treat her like a real prof.Half A** sudents fail.

Great teacher!!! Download and do all of the past tests, read your book. Tests are tough, but she'll do anything to help you pass. For those who got picked on, toughen up, you probably asked a question about something she just talked about... Try listening and stop whining.

First of all she is wrong about not being able to get an A (I got a 92% in her class) while taking Biology 202 and Chemistry 110. It's all about dedication. You literally have to have no life like myself. Besides all that she is a good instructor, she always made time for me when I asked her for it. Her attitude does suck though.

Dr. Hemsley is amazing!!! If you are in her class to really succeed in your profession, then you will do great! She expects college students to behave like adults! No socializing, pay close attention to what she is saying and take constant notes because she does not wat to have to repeat herself. Study!!Study!!Study!! Use office hrs!

This is an upper level science class, do the work. She makes all her past tests available so download and complete them ALL! Sometmes can be a bit snippy but we're not here to make friends with our professors, we're hear to learn from them, and she's excelent at that. The people on here that gripe are probably the ones that didn't study enough...

Yes this class is HARD but you learn a lot of info in a short period of time. So be prepared to study. Is makes herself availble if you take the time to address you issues. She was always helpful to me. I wasn't the brightest student in the class but she helped me. Get real...we're all adults quit whinning. You want to be nurse then suck it up.

she is hard and you need to spend A LOT of time studying. on tests, you have to figure out what she wants because your anser may be right, but if its not what she wants, you dont get full credit. dont ask questions during class. if you go to her office hrs and she wont make you feel as dumb. its not a kick back class.

Love her! She does care, but she knows if you dont and just want answers, instead of working for it. Read the book too if you dont understand. It isnt impossible, phys is harder so prepare yourself. Pay attention in lab it helps with what your doing. Use pictures when explaining answers on tests, she likes that. Team player n lab too.

Show up on time to class, turn in your assignments on time, follow instructions and you'll do OK. BS doesn't fly with her, so just do your work, study, memorize the matching and fill in the blank from previous test. you have to use critical thinking to pass. Want to slack? Not this class.

Dr. Hemsley is a very wonderful teacher. She doesn't mess around with teenagers who want to goof off in class though...this is college, it's your choice to be there. Study and do your work and she will respect you.

This class is only as hard as you choose to make it. Do all the labs, listen to the lectures, review previous tests, and READ the chapters in the book. She is serious because it is a serious field you are getting into. I took her online lecture. she gives you the grade you earned.

I enjoyed Dr.Hemsley in Micro. A lot of people talk so much about her but trust me I came on this website read what people said and still made it past her class. She's great! Dont ask her stupid questions that she just answered 3 seconds ago, YOUR BECOMING A NURSE stop blamming the teachers and deal with the fact that your grade depends on you!!!!!

She is one of the professors can enable me to enhance my critical thinking, for which is essential suvival skill we are expected!!! I love her, in regardless of how others said. Remember that time management skills are very crucial for the grades you earn,while her notes do help me to narrow down the areas of exam to be studied. I got grade A

she is a very angry teacher however, you are not there to be BFF. Stay out of her radar if you get on her bad side she will make everyone know she dislikes you. The class is easy to pass turn in your HW and study at least 3 days prior to test and you should do fine. There were students in my class that failed almost every test and still passed.

Boy the class was super hard! The only easy thing we did was the presentation in the end of the semester. The tests were so hard so you really need to know your stuff. Tests are essay-like. So be ready to write a lot. Her labs are fun and you get extra points if you do your drawings really nice.

She is definately tuff but only cause she wants you to be prepared. I enjoyed her class but it was a really tough class. Her tests were really hard for me. Go see her during her office hours if you are having a hard time she will sit with you and help you for as long as it takes. Its not impossible to pass her class.Good Luck

She is a GOOD teacher! She works hard at what she does, and that means that you have to as well! Don't think that this is a class you will skate through, you must work and it is worth it. She makes herself available to her students and will answer your questions if you have put thought into an answer. Her lab is great and we have lots of fun!

To pass Dr. Hemsley's class you will need to really study. All of her tests are essay form. She expects you to know basically everything that she covers in class, so come prepared. The easiest thing we did all semester was a 20min presentation on a topic of related to microbiology. I got an A in her class, but I worked extremely hard for that A. :)

At times Dr. Hemsley may seem a little grouchy, but you should be fine if you stay on her good side and ACTUALLY DO THE WORK!! She is always willing to help her students but only if they are willing to help themselves as well. Hard class but it is possible to get an A. Come to her class ready to work/study hard and I'm sue you will pass her class.

Like the witch from narnia. Dont screw up in lab; she watches you like a hawk. Do&study the practice test & look over the notes. She will ask you question that will not be on the practice test. So study wisely. She'll warm up late in the sem once the slackers drop out. Definitely prep you up for health field job. IMPT: FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS!

This is a difficult class but she is very clear on what she teaches. RECORD what she sais during lecture and listen to it and take CAREFUL notes. Every small detail counts. You don't need the book if you do this. She is a helpful and caring teacher. If you slack off and goof around in class, or are just not serious then DO NOT TAKE this class.

One of my favourite college classes by far. She's tough and expects you to be an adult. Follow directions--take notes on them if you have to; she doesn't like to repeat herself, but then who does? You must be an ADULT to attend this class because she expects it! Follow direction and act like an adult, not that hard. What is hard is her tests. READ the book, study her slides and do the practice test (sometimes questions are repeated). Talk to her during office hours, she's helpful and go to the tutor in the learning center she's also helpful!

LET'S BE HONEST HERE....THIS IS A COLLEGE CLASS NOT SOME HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL GROUP MEETING! EVERYONE NEEDS TO APPRECIATE PROFESSORS LIKE HER. SURE SHE IS TOUGH & HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS BUT THAT'S BECAUSE ALL MICROBIOLOGY CLASSES SHOULD BE THAT WAY. YOU ARE DEALING WITH A SERIOUS SUBJECT MATTER THAT IS PREPARING YOU FOR A FUTURE HEALTHCARE CAREER..

This is a COLLEGE course that prepares you for universities- if you are not dedicated to your academics and willing to study this is not the class for you. Hemsley is very clear, and gives you past exams for practice that are almost 80-90% exactly like the exam. She is a great teacher. If you do not excel it is your own fault!

Dr.H is a tuff lady. Make sure you do all your labs. Pay attention because if you ask her questions on something she had covered, she will make you feel stupid. Work hard on your 20 minute presentation and get it out of the way early on. She expects a lot of you and you should too.

Tough class in general. Hemsley is pretty rough around the edges at first, pretty sure it's to weed out the slackers early on. Go to class, study (SI is available!) and do the practice tests she has for every exam and you should do just fine. End of semester presentations aren't so bad. Do what you're supposed to be doing and you'll do fine.

Personality is much improved, very helpful during office hours. Previous test from her site help with multiple choice and fill in's. Gives ample opportunity for extra credit. Make sure you work hard on presentation and impress her, 100% credit is possible. Labs are fun and do exactly as she says. Prepares you for physiology which is even harder.

Dr. Hemsley is an excellent professor who is passionate about her field of study. I constantly went to her office hours with my questions throughout the semester and she was very helpful in clarifying my responses for the upcoming exams. I did the practice exams online and found them very helpful in preparing for the exams.

Dr. Hemsley is one of the most caring professor I have ever had in my college career. She is tough grader but she will make you love microbiology. If you keep track of these points you are definitely an A. NEVER BE LATE IN LAB OR LECT, and do not leave any lecture class. In order to get full points use her study guide and also RECORD her lec.

Do not hesitate to take Dr. Hemsley for Microbiology. Most of the student doesn't like her because they don't want to study but they need A s. If you read the materials, listen to her, ask tons of questions in her office about lessons, you will Never miss your A. study her past papers. She is one of the best professors AVC has. She makes you learn micro, not just to get a grade. Tests looks hard but if you ask questions in her office hrs she will explain it until you get it. Dr. Hemsley isn't the nicest professor. I clashed with her in the beginning of the semester but I think she noticed I was serious about micro and completely changed her attitude towards me. Being on her bad side will make it a very unpleasant semester. Do NOT get on her bad side. Besides that, she is a smart professor who knows her material.

Dr. Hemsley is TOUGH. She is not a teacher to take if you are lazy or looking for an easy A, you have to WORK. She is very blunt and doesn't accept disruptions or slacking in her class. She is very thorough and knowledgeable about Micro so you will learn a lot! Make sure you do well on your PowerP & do well on labs, you may score EC!

She is a good teacher and explains things well. Her test are completely out of her lecture study guide book. Her test are hard , but if you review the study guide book and take good notes you will pass the test. She can be a bit rude and uncaring. Prepare to do a 20 minute presentation in her class. I do not regret taking this professor even with the rumors about her. She is an amazing and intelligent lady who wants her class to learn. She can be a little rude and intimidating but if you have questions she will be able to help you with the answer or point you in the right direction. Gives extra credit and holds study sessions before tests.

Despite what you've heard about Hemsley being harsh, she is the best teacher I've ever had. She doesn't just want you walking out of her class with a grade stamped on you left forehead, she wants you to have some real knowledge on the subject. She's incredibly smart & can teach you a lot if you care enough to listen & work hard. I'd take her again!

Dr. Hemsley makes u work for it. I loved MICRO and all that she taught us about bacteria, cellular replication, organisms, gram stains, virulence, etc. A lot of life lessons to learn with her. Enjoy the class and relax because she is only there to help. P.S. Drop in for her office hours, she likes that.
