Starts off easy... after the first exam and when the drop date passes it becomes hell. 70% of what the lectures are on (chemical formulas) AREN'T on the exam... and the little details are worth a large chunk of the exams. The final exam was brutal. THIS IS A GPA KILLER, strongly suggest NOT taking it as an elective.
HORRIBLE professor!!! She kills you on tests (50 mins for two booklets - impossible; you end up running through multiple choice questions in last two minutes, guessing and bubbling it in as fast as you can). She seems nice, but only in class. Also, close to half of the class failing and an average mark of 40% tells you everything!!!
If it's been tough finding a way to off yourself and need an easy way out, attend this class. When the class average is this low in intro chem, you just KNOW it's not the students. Terrible teacher, makes you forget everything you once knew. When you actually have a question and she answers "I don't know"...it's such a wonderful feeling inside....
Has a very childish-nasal voice. Does not know how to teach, answers most question with ``i dont know...HAHAHA``she will randomly start jumping around and then awkwardly laugh. Her midterms were do-able but final was brutal with an average of 49%. kind of sad since it reflects that she clearly cant teach. Try switching out if you can.
By far the worst professor i've had. All the comments about her answering questions with "I don't know" and then laughs are completely accurate. She is exactly like professor umbridge from harry potter lol. When the class average is 40% there has to be something wrong with the way the professor is teaching not the students!!
I also had CHY142 with her. I question her knowledge constantly,so does everybody else.lectures are like a student's presentation, she cannot explain anything .don't know why the faculty is keeping her, Derrick Heyd and Gilbride need to respect the students more.don't think Johnson's been receiving good evaluations from students during these years
one disturbing educational experience
Don't be fooled by her laugh and smile, b/c deep inside she's pure evil. Don't bother asking for remarking, cuz she'll definitely make sure that you'll get even lower mark than before for wasting her time. Killer exams that relate little to her own lecture notes. Exercises from the book will not help with her killer exams!
Best advice I can give is take it in summer school. You will learn more and get a better mark. How are people like her allowed to become professors? Get used to test class averages below 50.
If her shrill voice and bad jokes don't kill you, her boring teaching methods will. Probably the worst prof I ever had. Jumps from place to place with no structure. You're pretty much signing up to learn entirely from the textbook. Tests are decent if you soldier through and have a good chem background. In general, HORRIBLE prof.. Summer schooling is worth avoiding her.
She is the Umbridge of Ryerson University! Worst prof ever. Don't know how or why she's the head department of chemistry. Not helpful at all!
Good lord. I havent felt so dumb in my life. Labs are very easy, but she is not, she comes off as an angel, you do something wrong, shell eat you, you want something remarked, shell eat you. sadly bio and chem students must deal with her for 3 classes, STRONGLY recommend chang school or doing it over summer to avoid her reign!!!!!
Her midterms and exams are insane, she picks very random questions that are nothing like what she "teaches" in class, nor are the questions in the textbook helpful. Hope you can learn stuff by yourself. Expect very very low class average. HIGHLY RECOMMEND summer school if you wanna have a normal GPA.
worst prof on earth useless lectures the whatever she teaches in class has nothing to do with her exam Her exams are horrible very low class average and the final most student fail it So if you get high grade in the midterm she will pass you the course and if you didn’t then you’re failing the course
Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! This professor is a nightmare. She has absolutely no teachig skills and her tests an exams are way too hard. Her PowerPoint slides are useless as well. She seems like an angel at first but she's really a monster. If you want to pass this course, I highly recommend you don't take it with her. Good luck !
Organic chem is definitely a hard class but I found her explanations and working through problems in class to be very helpful. Lots of small assignments and tests for practice. And I found her to be very friendly and helpful when I asked her for assistance. Do as many practice problems as you can.
She is the devil in disguise, her in class assignments are on content we have not learnt and during our 10 minute break period. Lectures are boring and her shrill nasal voice doesn't help either. She tries to seem helpful and such but in reality she really isn't. Read the textbook, do the practice problems and read the slides is all i can say.
A truly delightful professor that goes out of her way to ensure you understand the material completely. Don't believe me? Go see her during office hours! She's dedicated to help you, and is clearly passionate about mechanisms! Don't expect to slack off though, this is a course you need to work hard at and invest some time & energy. A is possible!
Beware class assignments. You can study for them but it may not help. Do not rely on them as a mark booster. It is complicated to follow the prof and slides. She tries to answer questions but ends up repeating herself. Offers extra credit but I haven't seen my assignment after I handed it in. Textbook is confusing. Study guide helps. Practice.
Avoid. I don't know how they let her teach...
As the Chem Program Director, she was helpful in this role. As a professor, she could greatly improve. She doesn't seem interested in the material at all. There was no sense of direction in her lectures and the final exam was not fair. She forgets to bring her notes to class and ignores questions she doesn't feel like answering. Disorganized.
I tried my best to give her the benefit of the doubt. The entire semester was a disaster in terms of organization and clarity. She is constantly mixing things up in class and making mistakes. She attributes this to excuses like "my head is hot" and "you guys are making me nervous". Avoid at all costs if you want to actually learn something.
There couldn't be a worse professor. All she does is go through mechanisms all semester long, and expect you to catch the background info that she throws in occasionally. Word to the wise, follow along with your textbook from the start, and memorize as you go, because there will be no hope if you leave it to the end. Lectures aren't helpful.
Just wrote the final exam for this class. Bear in mind that whatever she tells you to study in a review period, look in depth at the exact opposite. Completely unfair and nitpicky, so be sure to pay attention to the smallest of details. Lectures were all over the place, learned more information in 4 hours of YouTube videos than a semester with her.
The worst professor I've ever had, basically spent all semester working on this class to maybe pull of a low 60. The midterm and the final were hard and unfair, no matter how much you study, things you've never seen before are on it. The lab is managed horrible, you don't get previous reports back before the next one is due, impossible to do well
HORRIBLE prof. Doesn't know how to teach at all. She gets confused easily which makes us wonder if she even knows her stuff or not. Whenever you a question, she'll leave it up to you to figure it out. Even if you study a lot, this course is sure to rip you into pieces.
Her lectures are disorganized and pretty confusing. Super difficult to follow along when she started talking about mechanisms and isn't helpful at all when you ask her to clarify things. Advice to people taking it, do WELL on the first midterm (score a 60%) because the exam was just murder even if you study hard.
Hands down the worst prof I've ever had. It is questionable if she even knows the content she is teaching. Every question on the exam was a nightmare and related to nothing we learned in class. We didn't even have a textbook. Hours of studying will not help you. The labs were poorly organized. It seems like she is setting us up for failure.
Worst professor who seems very disorganized and unsure about the material she is teaching. She doesn't focus on the key information in lectures and focuses too much on detailed information that doesn't end up to be that important. Lectures are extremely difficult to follow - learned most of the course through youtube/textbook.
Just look at the other reviews and compare them to other professors in the science department. Something is clearly wrong here. Something is very very wrong.
The worst, there can't be any worse than her!!! avoid avoid avoid.
Dr. Johnson is a quirky professor who tries her best at teaching biochemistry, but sadly she falls short and often confuses some concepts in her own mind. An A+ is achievable in her course, just pay attention during lecture and supplement with the textbook. Her tests are fair for people who study. Majority of the bad comments are left by crammers.
Not sure why there are so many negative ratings. She's a sweet and encouraging person, the labs were fun and she is always happy to help students. She made organic chemistry manageable and even enjoyable.
Friendly and engaging. Tests are difficult be she's a pretty kind marker. Term paper is rough.
She teaches a certain set of topics on enzymes etc. and then 4 days before the exam she has a review class and lists the things she expects you to know in a "by the way I hope you know how to..." kind of way, but the the things she just listed she didn't teach properly and they were MAYBE mentioned in very minimal detail on ONE slide.
Considering the fact that she confuses left and right and DNA and RNA etc the class would appreciate if she would be more lenient in how she marks. Also, if she confuses things like ^^ , would it not be fair to say I could have "confused" a few concepts on my midterm too? Thus, a little leniency going both ways would be nice.
Reading through the comments and cringing. It is a difficult course, period. There is no required text book, that doesn't mean you can't pick one up and do some supplemental reading. Dr. Johnson is a kind and knowledgeable professor who is always available for help. Basic understanding of organic chemistry is required for enzyme mechanisms.
Doesn't know the difference between protons and electrons. How.
Make Biochemistry great again, don't take her class.
1) listen to what she wants you to know. 2) disregard her notes ( lets face it your notes are incomplete because you can't type / write as fast as she talks- btw you would need to write down every word to get the full picture of what shes teaching) 3) make textbook notes and memorize mechanisms 4) go to exam 5) cry about exam 6) repeat if required
I would like to start this by letting you know I'm not a crammer. This course was executed horribly. I usually do really well in lab but this was a travesty. The back and fourth to fix grades and argue poorly represented marks was ridiculous(marks lost from GLP for asking Qs). I give this course including the prof and staff an F for their efforts.
Worst class I have taken during my undergrad, the prof is very unsure with the material even though she's been teaching it for many years, often contradicts herself in the lectures. Lectures are extremely boring and she is not an engaging prof, you'll learn better by just reading the textbook. Also another con would be her requiring 2 textbooks!
Wanna know what the snowball effect is? It's when you have lab reports due every week, but you don't get feedback on any of them in a timely manner (usually after about 2 months later). So you end up making the same mistakes and more, culminating in a large snowball of mark deductions. Also, because of the auto 70% GLP, you start at a 97%.Not 100%.
Everything in the test was said during lecture. If you study the lectures and understand what you are studying you will do well. The only down side for this course is the labs and how the same quality reports may get 90% from one TA and 80% from another.
She taught the same course over several years, and she can't even say protons and electrons right on several occasions. If the mistake happens over and over, then there IS a problem. And she blame that on being tired, getting cold, etc. How convenient. Btw the lab was horrendous.
Johnson was actually very fair. She obviously didn't want us to memorize but to understand what she teaches. That includes not memorizing mechanisms. Labs weren't that bad, some people need to learn time management (ie not leaving your manuscript to the night before). I'm no genius - I did well bc I took good notes. Btw she bell curves final grades
I have previously rated her on BCH361, but now I'm going to talk about 436. It's obvious she likes this course and is somewhat excited to talk about pharm chem. Class discussions did lose sight of the main discussion at times, and she is always open to hear ideas. The lowest grade for the midterm was a 60%, that should tell you the toughness.
She only ran the lab this year but insisted on having VERY SPECIFIC questions from the lab on our exam...
Dont do it. You are going to fail. She never bell curves.
This was the worst class I've ever taken at Ryerson. She keeps saying that she disagrees with the textbook a lot and leaves the class with no resource to study from since her lectures and slides have nothing to do with the test. She seems so confused about the course material and leaves the questions unanswered in the class. Don't take this course.
If you want to lower your GPA go ahead and take this course with her! Her tests are unclear and not fair at all.
She doesn't even know how to teach because her midterms and final exams are not reflective of what is being taught in class. Her lectures are so VAGUE and the annotations she makes on each slide is practically useless because it does not further your understanding or help you when you study. If this course is mandatory good luck passing :'(
Worst prof ever, HELL.... I MEAN IT ITS BETTER TO DROP OUT OF UNI THAN TAKE HER CLASSS.... HER CLASS IS LIVING HELL, THE CONTENT IS INTERESTING AND LIKE YOU WANA LEARN IT BUT THE PROF OMG SHE MAKES IT SO WORSE, EVEN IF YOU GO TO CLASS YOU WONT PASS...
A NIGHTMARE. Exams set you up to fail- content is from textbook she said NOT to use as she disagreed with it and lectures are confusing and uninformative. All lab marks uploaded wrong,30% lower than students actual marks and haven't been fixed,TAs say is profs mistake but she has not acknowledged it. Steer clear if you want to keep your sanity/GPA
This was a very hard course. Lectures were very light and in no way shape or form prepared you for the tests or the final exam. Was told to not read the textbook for many things because she said she disagreed with it a lot, but you NEED to know the book front to back just to pass. Felt like a way to advanced class :(
Worst professor.
Mentally prepare yourself for some boring lectures. Not only that but she insists on leaving the graphs in her PowerPoint slides blank, so that you have to go and create the graphs yourself. When informed about this issue, she essentially responded "too bad, that's the way its done".
Horrible experience
Horrible prof, doesn't mark fair and marking scheme is based on how she feels that day . Good Luck
Just dont do it. Worst prof ever ..
Dr. Johnson is a very sweet prof, and she made the course much more bearable in COVID times. Her powerpoint slides are a little boring and she reads through them quickly, but there were plenty of free marks for discussion questions. Mastering quizzes were a pain tho. Overall, she made a boring course decent.
She's a really nice proff and caring, The content in the course isn't bad at all, although her lecture videos can be very fast and goes through the material fast, but you can always slow it down. The mastering was straight forward, the weekly group discussions marks is basically given to you so long as you participate in them. Overall amazing proff
She is the WORST professor I have ever had. I did not learn much in this course and she is a VERY hard marker. Choose another professor if you can.
Really caring prof. All lectures were available by the start of the week, were super short and had subtitles which saved a lot of time transcribing them. Show up for weekly discussion because those are easy participation marks.
Dr. Anne is very caring and would help you through materials when you ask for help. The lectures were recorded, short, and very informative. Make sure that you attend her lectures because the material she discusses are the ones that she uses for evaluation and does not focus on the textbook at all.
She really can't teach, seems like the class knows more than her. Her instructions on assignments are always unclear and mark unreasonably hard on them. She spends way too much time on examples than the actual content that is not useful. The case studies she assigns, she expects you to know immediately.
Currently in BCH361 & have a midterm tomorrow. Reading the reviews & wow, I am failing. Her chapter slides are composed of 20 slides max & they have no information. She has 50 further reading textbooks & u will not find the corresponding chapters. Ready to go into the midterm & get destroyed. Class cannot be approached, lectures were confusing. Run
This prof is litterally one of the worst profs I have ever had the displeasure of having, she has 20 slides per chapter which barely contain any information and are very disorganized. Currently studying for the mid term cant study anything because she doesn't use the textbook, litterally all there is to study is her 20 slides
this prof is literally the worse she doesn't know how to teach and when asked questions in class, she just replies with "I'm not really sure about that since I'm a molecular prof"......it was a biochem class
This professor takes zero accountability for her actions or her role in our results. An entire class can fail a midterm and she will blame it on the fact that we had ~2 years of online education rather than taking any ownership. Some general advice is to ignore when she states "You don't need to know this" because it will definitely be on the test
A little Haikou about this course: She was death of me Drop the course before its late go cry in a Kerr Hall
I would highly recommend avoiding this prof, take this class with literally anyone else. Her slides have very little text and she speeds through them without fully explaining anything. If you take this class with her prepare to rely on youtube to teach you everything.
This professor has genuinely ruined biochemistry for me. Her in person lectures are so hard to understand from and she seems so lazy about teaching. Does not provide sample questions for the exams. Recorded lectures are just as bad. Zero words on her slides and she zooms through content. She doesn't even annotate which residue she's talking about.
This professor makes me sad. The midterm average was a 49% which she "curved" to a 56. She said "if you got under a 40%, drop the course". I wish I could but its mandatory for my program. The professor proceeded to insult us for half of the class after we received our midterm marks. She genuinely makes me so sad and im gonna fail the course :(
This professor is by far the worse. Her lectures were very unclear, she stuttered a lot while explaining the material and no one could hear her even with a microphone The class average for the midterm was 49 and she proceeded to insult us by saying we are stupid in a sense and that we should be learning the material on our own.
I am attempting to study for the final exam that I already know I'm going to fail. Why you ask? Well her slides and lectures are filled with greatly inaccurate information on some of the most studied topics in biochemistry (TCA Cycle and Glycolysis). Alas, I pray to school gods that I pass to avoid seeing her face ever again.
Honesty an incompetent professor. Her lecture slides had errors that were never corrected. Her midterm was full of things that were never discussed in detail and that she told us not to memorize. She blames online education for our low midterm average and takes no accountability for the issues in her teaching. Avoid at all costs. [REAL REVIEW]
One Midterm (20%) + One Final (35%) +10% Participation. Her in-class lectures are a waste of time. But she posts short video lectures that are slightly better but not enough alone. Watch her video lectures and read the textbooks to supplement. (textbook that is best: fundamental of biochemistry life at the molecular level. 5'th edition). GL.
Insanely rude to students, puts material in her exams that she never taught and says we are the stupidest class she's ever had. Material in the exams was not related to what we were taught so you can't even study properly. Horrible notes and lectures. Says there is no textbook but there is, she just won't tell you. Drop this course if you can.
goes to lecture: **extremely confused** watches videos provided: **confused, and realizes how much she forgets to say in person** her: "avoid using youtube as it is vague detailing in terms of mechanisms" also "you have a high chance of failing this class" never taking a course that starts with 'BCH' ever again, praying to pass at this point.
Take this course anywhere else if you can! This prof cannot teach, her in person lectures are just as bad as her online lecture videos that she posts. She is very in considerate and rude to her students and do not try and help them in any way. content covered in lectures do not correlate to examinations. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF
If you're used to putting in effort and seeing results, you're going to be disppointed. In-person lectures useless, online lectures extremely short, prof misguides a lot when answering questions, mixes up her terminology a lot, and content on evaluations does not match what she goes over in class. Pick up a textbook, don't bother going to class.
Please avoid this professor. Everything said below is true
Worst of the worst of the worst, I thought my first year physics prof (Jonathan Hu) was bad, oh m'am that guy was an angel compared to Anne Johnson. you besta believe it, she comes stoned to class, cuz there's no way a prof can be this rude, disrespectful, unorganized, and bad at teaching all at once. To whom it may concern, please fire her ASAP.
I hope she reads this and reflects on her BAD teaching, VERY UNLIKELY knowing her. Lectures bad; 40+ mins wasted on casestudy/discussions that cover stuff not tested on tests/exams. Blames students and calls us stupid for low averages when she put never seen before content on tests. Biochem dept sucks and why is she still teaching. GO HOME.
Her lectures lack a lot of information. Her tests are incredibly difficult, with a lot of the information being on things she did not even discuss. After the average of the midterm being 49% (for a class with 300 students btw) she proceeds to say it is entirely our fault and tells those who have failed to drop the class. awful professor
After attending first class, I dropped it. I'm hoping department will bring new prof next year to teach this class! Even in first class she wasn't sure about the topic she was teaching. this is a mandatory course for lots of science students, and it's not fair to have her as an instructor who doesn't care for any student!
Worst professor I've had yet. Content is super difficult to understand, and it doesn't help that she does not explain anything. Save yourself and get another professor if you can.
Retard prof dont need to say no more. Maybe she got hired for inclusivity of involving mentally challenged and disabled people in the work place.
Genuinely the worst prof I've ever seen. Ironically she's running a study on student fears about biochem while single-handedly destroying the mental health of every student in her class. She takes no accountability for issues with her teaching and seems to happily watch everyone fail. I thought profs like this only existed in movies. Avoid her.
Anne Johnson does not know anything ab what she tries to "teach" in her lectures. She says she doesn't remember what things mean and say it's not important when she expects us to know that stuff. Her in person lectures barely make sense and she doesn't answer any questions properly. She is the worst profs I've ever had. She is my reasons #1-5 why.
"Skip class? You won't pass" Go to class, you won't pass
Worst prof ever!
This prof probably got her teaching degree from the floor of a TTC. She does not know how to teach, she does not care for her students, and she has literally no thought in her small head. She always looks so lost before she starts lectures and she doesn't even know how to use the lights. She is by far the worst and I hope she cries reading this.
stay away !
If completion of this course is mandatory for you to graduate, good luck Charlie! Seriously switch programs :)
Professor watched me cry at the 8:00am class and continued teaching while staring at me directly. I was crying because of the midterm average was 49% and she did not care whatsoever. She is mean and heartless. Her exam questions do not relate to the content that she doesn't even teach properly. She makes me want to die. :(
If you can avoid her DO IT. She is absolutely clueless during her lecture its quite hilarious. She does not care about her students at all, seems as though she doesn't even like teaching and is only doing it for the money, the school needs to get rid of her. TERRIBLE PROF TERRIBLE HUMAN
I'd rather off myself than take another class with her
Johnson is the worst professor ever to teach biochem. As part of the class of 2024, I have had my fair share of bad professors over the years, but she takes the cake! She is incredibly condescending and does not care about students. All the reviews posted result from students' frustration as we try to pass this god-forsaken course.
DO. NOT. TAKE. A. COURSE. WITH. HER.
Anne Johnson did not provide the necessary tools for students to succeed throughout the semester. Her lectures were very incoherent and poorly explained. She was almost inaudible, and often doubted her own slides and kept second guessing herself. Worst experience I have ever had in a class, made me want to drop out of my program. Please stay away.
The BCH361 class body is the titanic ship and dr johnson is the iceberg. This analogy is effective because it accurately represents the relationship between the professor and all of our sinking grades. anne johnson is irreversibly, allosterically inhibiting my happiness and grades. she makes mc tests impossible RUN SWIM-AWAY there are no lifesavers
The problem is she cannot convey any of this; just because someone has a Ph.D., doesn't mean they can teach well. In this class, her lectures are misleading, she removes a lot of concepts that she does not like including any sort of math. She lies about what's going to be on the assessments, completely different content, and goes back on her word.
Fee Fi Fo Fum, Anne Johnson is a Klun. Her body so round, she makes me cry, so do her tests and I'll tell you why. Her content and tests, do not match, and neither does her voice cuz she's so f@t. Prof or not, she can't teach at all, her moods all over the place, and she smells like a dog. Professor, please be kinder to the next batch of students.
We were talking in lecture once and she said that she could just not lecture and leave class and tbh going to lecture and not going made no difference. Choose peace, not problems.
May Almighty God spare you from this nightmare of an instructor. If I could pick only one word to describe her, I'd pick thiswomanisactuallytheworstinstructorihaveeverhadandiwilldoeverythinginmypowertoensureineverhavetotakeanyofherclasseseveragainsohelpmegod
Awful
Y'all think orgo was hard? Try taking this class with Johnson. She doesn't stand by her words nor does she know what she's talking about most of the time. She does a little teehee to cover that up. I think rye high mistakenly hired her. She probably finessed the system and got a fake certification for her Ph.D. Even gen Z can do better :)
POV: A skinwalker pretends to be a professor who teaches your class. It shares some traits of a typical professor. But the red flags can't be ignored. You watch arrows being drawn for 2 hours from compound to compound. Questions are asked and deflected. You're now sad and confused.
Anne is the worst prof you'll ever encounter. She can't teach, doesn't know the answers to any questions, and can't even figure out how to sit properly in a chair. Anne, it's never too early to retire. Do everyone a favour and roll on out of the lecture hall for good. I'd be surprised if her perfume isn't McDonald's grease mixed with cheap vodka.
Just did the final exam and 3/4 of the test was not even explained or shown in the lectures. Most students said they didn't good on the final. Hoping i pass this course at this point so i never have to see her again.Literally ruined my whole semester(p.s drjohnsonifyourreadingthisihopeyouhavetheworstholidaybreakyousuckoldlady) >:)
avoid at all costs
Dr Anne Johnson is a nice person but her tests nor her teaching style are effective to help students understand biochemistry. She structures test in a way where NONE of the content covered in class is tested. Instead, irrelevant information is asked which was never covered. If you have Dr Anne Johnson please consider dropping the course QUICK!
Dr. Johnson is very kind and gave students many accommodations (10% group discussion, 4% bonus, midterm weight on final). She needs to lecture better (very quiet and often gets "confused" about what she's teaching). Also, ignore the recent bad reviews. People who cheated their way through the last 2 years (online) are now at their Judgement day.
I miss Anne Johnson. She was an amazing professor and hands down THE BEST professor I've ever had during my university experience so far.
ANNE JOHNSON IS GOATED! THE MESSI OF CHEMISTRY!
10 percent handed to u through group discussion and labs are free 90s too. I legit just watched her videos on d2L and got an 80 on her midterm and now waiting for my final mark. for a tough course like biochem she really did a good job and made sure u always had a chance to make up marks. overall chill prof.
OH MY... this prof is just a NO. Lectures were so vague, no information is given on slides just a photo and you get approx 30 sec to write down as much as you can as she reads off of her paper. Keep in mind it is also very difficult to hear her too because she doesn't speak up. I will say tho she is a very kind lady, but as a teacher horrible.
Honestly these reviews make her look real bad but she's not cause she always helped me in office hours and gave me practice qs and like some of the reviews said this course had TONS of ways to juice your mark. If you're down bad that hard even with all that maybe Uni's not for you. There's a Mcdonalds right beside campus fyi.
Overall Dr. Anne Johnson is a caring person but lacks the ability to deliver knowledge during lecture that will help students understand the difficult concepts of biochemistry. During lecture she reads off a pre mad script and does not answer any questions posed to her in an impactful manner. fyi, the 5 star recent reviews are quite suspicious
Anne did a tremendous job condensing all the cell respiration mechanisms jargon into few steps memorized for the final. Attendance is not mandatory. The videos she posts online are god-tier. Added bonus she specializes in molecular bio so can help you study for that course too. Only suggestion is wish she released marks faster.
SWEET JESUS! ANNE JOHNSON IS THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS!
Anne Johnson was a terrific professor and she always wanted to see her students succeed. Disregard the large influx of negative reviews as those students clearly cheated their way through online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, whoever keeps reporting the positive reviews, perhaps use that time towards studying and you'll do better.
Anne stop writing those fake 5 star reviews its not looking good for you...reviews saying we just didn't study or didn't try hard enough are a joke because most ppl taking this course are planning to go to grad school meaning we obviously need good grades and we put in work. I had a 4.0 (TMU GPA scale), before this class... I cant even explain her
She gave me leaky bum syndrome.
As a Ph.D. student, I think this course wasn't too tricky. Annie. J did an excellent job explaining the processes, making them easy to comprehend. Students that failed this course/did shit did have that leaky bum syndrome. Students planning on taking this course shortly, please study hard or else you'll have that leaky bum syndrome.
I mean everyone knows she is not a good instructor, I just don't understand why is she still teaching such an important course? just accept it and do something else
Shes nice but, cant teach. Biochem concepts r important for bio students to learn but, w/ this professor here, we will all lack the knowledge. She doesnt even give us a textbook as the content she teaches doesnt even follow any. Ive been doing good but, this is because I do nothing but study (the individuals giving good reviewers probably relate).
This woman deserves all the praise. Passionate about chemistry. Funny and keeps the class engaged. Simplifies everything biochem has to offer into simple steps. Easy tests which are basically the same from hw and group discussion problems. The class of 2024 is France and Anne Johnson is Messi at the world cup finals today.
this class was my villain origin story
Overall this course would have been great if Dr Anne followed a textbook and gave her students slides with actual content on it instead of pictures. She is a nice person but does not know how to effectively communicate her thoughts to her students. The labs and bonus marks are good but the exam and midterm were not reflective of the material.
Do not take this course with this prof, I was so close to SH and now I'm seeing a therapist because of her.
very nice lady. made biochemistry easy
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOOD REVIEWS they are all written by her. We know this for a fact because she would blame us in class for doing bad and these reviews are doing so. ANNE JOHNSON WAKE UP! IF A CLASS WITH OVER 300 STUDENTS DID BAD THEN WHOS THE PROBLEM HERE.
Annie was a very interesting professor with her very contagious "teehee" which she makes sure she does at least once every lecture. Otherwise she made sure it was hard to lose marks. Free group discussion 10%, 4% bonus for online surveys and tests are almost the same as her practice questions. Perfect prof for people born to make it!
Unless she curves the final exam marks, I don't know how she will live with herself after knowing she ruined my life. If anything happens to me, Anne Johnson of Toronto Metropolitan University is the reason
As a student who has taken multiple in-person classes, including biochemistry I, I can assure you that she is an awful professor. My grade is a sole reflection of the hard work I had to put into this course, searching for other professors, textbooks, and upper-year students. Other than having a PhD, she's completely unqualified to be a professor.
cant teach a course at all. her lectures are useless, no lecture seemed to help us prepare for the final exam.
Don't take her. Very passive-aggressive. Says to study mechanisms because they will be on the final. Only 3 out of the 83 questions covered mechanisms. So, 80% of the class does badly, and then she takes no good measure to undo her wrongdoing. She changes the final from out of 90 to out of 83, like that will help? So many people failed.
This course experience was the worst I've ever had. There is no point of attending her lectures she does not teach. Expect to invest a shitload of time studying this course on your own. After prioritizing this course and investing several hours into it, I just barely passed. If you care about your mental health, dont take adv biochem with her lol.
Anne Johnson made my bum leak so hard I now have a runny arsehole My bum will not recover from that exam it is leaking for eternity now
Giving free marks doesn't matter bc there's no way to do well on her exams short of fully memorizing a biochem textbook. Reading old reviews on here she obv hasn't changed her lazy ass method over a decade, pathetic that a 60 yr old is writing fake reviews to soothe her fragile ego instead of putting a little bit of effort into actually teaching.
Midterm and final exam were terrible, she wouldn't provide any study material as she is "too busy", but this is the only class she teaches and she barely does any work teaching. The 10% "group discussion" assignments were not related to material and she wasted so much time on them rather than teaching. She's so rude its insane. she should not teach
Poor teaching style.Powerpoints were images, no text w/ minimal/confusing verbal explanations. Testing did not reflect lecture content at all. Constantly degraded students. Insinuated everyone cheated their way through Biochem 1 to get here. Did not take any accountability for failing her students. This is coming from someone who got a good mark.
Imagine a professor who debilitates her students because her midterm, which didn't really cover lecture topics, had an average of 49%. There isn't likely to be any other professor that you can take BCH361 with so strap in and be prepared to get railed. Even if you got an A+ in BCH261, this prof will suck the life out of you; don't be surprised.
Horrible professor. Honestly should be fired IMO. There were endless empty graphs and slides, and nonsensical explanations of complex topics :( Get ready to teach yourself the entirety of this extremely difficult and content-heavy course, and suffer during tests because they aren't even related to what we "learned" in class.
bro something is wrong w this woman. provided us w "midterm study questions" and then wrote in the doc "These are questions I generated from the notes. They may or may not have any similarity to questions you will see on the midterm." like bro if they arent similar why r u including them LMFAOO
No words, do not take the course with her
The entire teaching staff of this course heavily stresses their students with the lab and lecture component. It's classes run by teachers like Prof Johnson that make me question my choice to major in biology. The material taught in the lecture is so confusing..half the time she will tell you she's unsure of the stuff she's talking about lmao
Genuinely doesn't deserve to teach. I wish I could put into words the degree of anxiety and stress she puts on students. Empathy, compassion, and kindness are foreign concepts to her. Anne Johnson - I hope you read these comments and take a moment to reflect on how much of a negative impact you have had on countless student's academic careers.
sweet lady but absolutely could not teach, she doesn't even know what shes talking about half of the time, empty unhelpful slides, would teach from 5+ textbooks so have fun trying to teach yourself all of the material from multiple different textbooks bc her lectures/slides will not suffice, most people fail/barely pass.
For a course like BCH361, Dr. Johnson fails to provide useful resources to do well on her tests. The lectures are very visual, with little to no writing on them. Tests are MC, but she never gave any MC practice. At least last year the students had a curve. Gupta provided triple the amount of content for BCH261 and also Mastering prep.
Don't know where to begin. I wouldn't be taking the time out of my life to write this if it wasn't for her. Save yourself the trouble, do not take this course with her. Her lecture slides are mostly visual, offering minimal explanations. It's nearly impossible not to feel pity for the way she teaches.
She simply can't teach. It's clear that she needs to quit her job because you won't know a single thing that is going on in her class. Her lecture slides are empty. Her questions are just a joke; they are wordy, confusing, and irrelevant. If she can do herself a favour and quit teaching, it would be better for everyone at this university.
Anne Johnson is the worst prof I have ever had thus far. Her exams are extremely difficult, we get zero practice questions, the lectures are taught horribly with irrelevant details, she also words questions in a very confusing way. It's almost like she wants students to fail. If you get the chance take this course with someone else
I don't know what it is, but she cannot teach. She not only talks very fast and at a monotone level, but constantly uses words you don't know, or will need a second to remember (but you con't have a second bc she talks so fast). She is nice, but her exams are crazy hard.
Unfortunately she can not teach and her lectures are empty. There is no specific textbook that you can study from. Exam is multiple choice but we did not do a single multiple choice question. I hated this class and it caused me so much anxiety. She doesn't care about students. I literally had to study from the internet.
The worst prof. I have ever had. All these reviews are spot on. I don't know how she is a teacher because she is extremely unfair and under qualified. She basically wants students to struggle and fail. Anne needs to take an english class because she clearly cannot word her test questions properly.
students should start a petition to get her fired. I have a 4.3 gpa and still struggled in her course cause she is JUST HORRIBLE. she teaches horribly, provides no practice problems, provides no one textbook reference to rely on (she uses like 20), gives no extra credit and her questions are nothing like the lecture.
Honestly she was great. It was a good break from Computer Science and it was definitely more interesting than intro to Chemistry. Goated prof
This prof rights her own 5 star reviews, do not believe them
Admitted to writing her own RMP, 5 textbooks used, insanely difficult exams, and belittles her students, half of the class were students that failed the course previously. Expects u to have the same knowledge as her when she has a PHD in biochem and ur just a 3rd year student. Does her absolute best to make u feel dumb, doesnt answer questions. GL.
BCH 361 is challenging, it requires a lot of studying for a good grade. Labs and case studies are good mark boosters as long as you put in reasonable effort. Lecture engagement could improve, but utilizing resources like office hours and YouTube alongside the textbook will get you a decent mark in the class.
i tried giving anne a chance. i wanted to like her, but she has no remorse. MC tests w stuff she didn't cover. it doesnt matter how smart u are, doing well on midterm/exam depends on dumb luck. 90% of her practice problems & slides r useless. if this female won't change her teaching, how does she expect students to succeed? just retire alr woman
90% of her lectures are useless and she won't test on. then she tests on things she never focused on. she provides no practice questions or textbook reference. do not waste your time going to lecture or reading the slides. just watch YouTube and do lots of practice questions found online.
Study the opposite of whatever she emphasizes and read the BCH261 textbook or watch YouTube videos cause she doesn't cover anything significant in her slides. She dedicates so much time to talking about mechanisms, says that the class is 3 hours behind schedule, so she needs to speed things up, and then doesn't test anything on mechanisms?!
Idk why people getting A+ are complaining. This is a hard course, and tbh, she just tried to get everyone to pass rather than a good mark, and you got a good mark. Her lectures are somewhat engaging if you're taking notes and paying attention. She is honest about what she wants from students and if you study really hard you can get a good mark.
prof is a hard marker, lectures and tests do not correlate. just rely on textbooks and youtube to learn all your information. her lecture slides are half blank for no reason, prof wouldn't bother to fix her mic if students cant listen.
Bum? Leaky. Brain? Freaky.
This prof has the gall to lower the weighting of the case studies from 10% (last year) to 5% (this year). Dr. J, what was the point of doing that. Seriously, everyone knows that your course doesn't traditionally allow many people to get high marks. Was the department upset at the 5 ppl of 500 who got above a 90 last year or something? What a joke.
BCH361 is a challenging course, but engaging with the resources can help. The lectures may not fully align, so supplement with the textbook and tools like unstuckstudy. Stay focused, and you can get a decent grade despite the difficulty.
Terrible instructor. The lectures were filled with confusing diagrams that made no sense, and the explanations of critical concepts were completely unhelpful. Be prepared to teach yourself the entire course, which is overloaded with difficult material, only to be blindsided by exams that have nothing to do with what was covered in class.
Majority of the slides are empty and she wont provide the filled in ones (even though she has access), when she does post practice problems there is no explanation to how it was obtained. If you miss a lecture due to you being sick and you dont socialize during class then you wont ever get the information you missed. Never had a worse prof.
horrible professor, that's all I gotta say
At first, all was well. Lab material was engaging and insightful, same with case studies. I was optimistic, *was*, until suddenly- without a moment's notice- I was violently bent over, and my poor innocent fourth year behind was heinously deflowered by the raging tactical nuke that is Johnson's examination. I have been stretched beyond salvation.
After town hall meeting, more fake reviews may come but this needs to be said: Dr. J, it's not the students' fault ur course is bad, u r delusional. Do u lack empathy? Y do u refuse to improve ur teaching after 12 yrs? Ur excuse "ppl must work hard" is logical fallacy. Ppl can work hard but rightfully critique u.
Anne, can you please actually provide us with information to learn? Perhaps information that correlates to your midterm questions or prepares us for its difficulty? Anne has a serious lack of empathy, no desire to actually teach effectively. Do better TMU, hard working students are suffering under Dr. Johnson
I dont know how to start. This course made me die inside. You guys can read other peoples comments and relate to mine.
All the good reviews were literally written by her and she admit it herself!!!!!! avoid this terrible prof at all times. She even admit many times in the lecture she has no idea what she is talking about.. SHE DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT AN ALLELE WAS????? like as a PROFESSOR, that is just sad. its literally the basics of the basics. time to retire Anne
Slides dont match the exam at all (you wont even have them if you skip lecture because she doesnt provide them even if you were sick), Doesnt follow a textbook so you cant follow that either each slide deck has like 10 different reference. Genuinely surprised she hasn't been fired yet only guess is no one wants to teach BCH361
Oh my god where do I start. Today I had the final exam and it was 80mc questions and nothing, I mean NOTHING correlated to what she taught in lecture. Anne is a terrible prof that deserves to be fired. She doesn't even know what she is saying most of the time in the lecture. AVOID THIS BAD PROF AT IF U CAN!!! She cannot teach!!!
Wallahi I made this account just for this woman. Never thought I wud want gupta back dec6 was the final and on my momma idk what that was. Nothing on that exam was lecture, or problem set material, very diff there's no coming back from that. To the incoming 3rd years prepare to have a class full of 4th year its looking like we all repeating this ;D
We had 5 textbooks and empty slides. The second half of the course felt like organic chemistry, as her whole focus was on the mechanisms, but the test was on stuff she did not focus on. Such a shame!
Made me suicidal, had to go to a therapist for the first time in my life
Oh my god this class was awful. You can tell someone talked to her about 2022/2023 school year because she seemed a lot nicer than people said she'd be. The exams sucked and after the midterm was all mechanisms which was so insane because the only way to learn all that in a month was to memorize it which was impossible. Good luck y'all.
To avoid repeating others: Cons: Was NOT helpful with in-class questions (a lot of "idk about x") Pros: Tests were NOT hard (hear me out). After the midterm 95% of content was mechanisms, 5% was regulation. Exam was 95% regulation, 5% mechanisms, so we were VERY misled in studying. HOWEVER, she did say it would not be on mechanisms. Easy midterm.
I don't know what she was teaching in class. Her test don't match with slides and she seems nice but she's not. Please take at any other institution or with other prof.
Anne was a nice person, but not the best teacher. She frequently couldn't answer students' questions. The midterm was easy, but the final was HARD. The whole second half of the semester was about mechanisms but she didn't test on it?? So nobody really knew what to study for the final. You can get a good grade if you do well on the lab/case studies
Her lectures need a lot of improvement because the focus on mechanisms was insane/unnecessary. This class is doable but it takes a lot of sacrifice. Started therapy because I was emotionally unregulated due to her confusing teaching style. Go to her lectures (AND USE TXTBOOKS), she emphasizes small things that she expands on during assessments.
Worst prof of my entire undergrad career man idk what else to say literally how is she even allowed to teach
Don't do the makeup, her classic issues still prevail. All short answer about niche topics briefly mentioned in class, lack of communication about what is the focus, compounded by slides with barely any info necessitating extensive yt and tb study and memorization. One of the questions was AsO4 poisoning... She also lacks any teaching competence.
This class was just difficult. Anne is nice but her lectures are full of info that is unnecessary for assessments (she talks a lot about mechanisms and then barely tests you on them). I attended lectures, copied down every word she said, used Google for clarification while reviewing, and that got me an A- (no textbook used). Labs are alright.
Took this class for the third time and learned my lesson: study and give it your all! 1) do the problem sets 2) do the textbook question. Her problem sets are genuinely harder than her exam - if you can answer those you are more than ready for her exam! Study loads for results, you can get it down. Professor is super supportive and there to help!
Lecture portion is graded by 1 midterm, 1 noncumulative final (all MCQ) and case studies. She is nice, but not a good prof. I used the TB (recommend lehninger) for her exams and found them ok. I went to lectures but it's not necessary as she taught a bunch of mechanisms that were never tested, but I think she got better at teaching towards the end.
THE WORST PROF EVER!!! how is she still teaching?? everyone always does bad in her class, even the TAs dont like her. she NEVER curves, I know ppl that failed by 1% . she needs to retire ASAP. her midterms are worded so bad that sometimes she doesn't even know what the question is asking.
idek what im studying for this midterm tbh her slides give no direction...all the comments are 100% true i wanted to give her a chance and see the better in her but i just cant
Graduated 3 years ago and still think about this class's trauma to-date. AJ's issues still prevailing isn't a surprise...don't be deceived by her disingenuous appearance, "problem sets", and midterm. Still have old classmates trying to pass this class. One's on their 3rd attempt. Previous comment wait for your reality check like I got mines, hah.
In general the issues with this class stem from the prof being unwilling to improve their teaching after leading it for a long time. we've tried to give constructive criticism a few times, but the prof isn't receptive at all. also this prof doesn't make questions for the final someone else does. that's why it doesn't line up with lecture content.
Never droppsd a course faster than dr jhonson switching up on that midterm exam girl teach like a real professor and not a joke maybe you'll have more students willing to come and learn in your class and not a therapy session.
In the beginning of the term, when she tries to convince you not to listen to reviews and that she's a fair professor... do NOT be fooled.
She said, and I quote, "Some people ask me if I would get perfect on my tests... probably not because this is something I have a great deal of difficulty remembering!" Why are we expected to know content she can't even remember...
another quote since another comment brings it up; "Biochemistry's definitely a tough one...that's why I'm here to make it tougher!" "you won't get a grip otherwise" HUH???? How is she not fired yet?
SHE SAID AND I QUOTE..."I probably wouldn't even be able to get a perfect on the final exam myself!" WOMAN THEN HOW CAN YOUR STUDENTS???! Her smile makes me icked out. I regret going to this school just to see her face.
She has a “kind” and “soft” demeanour that will make you empathetic at first. Slowly you will realize that it's all disingenuous. She will put in her best effort to make sure you don't do well! Put in your best effort to make sure you do!
Save yourself the stress and just study from the textbook. Absolutely nothing on the exams comes from her lectures, so don't rely on them. Even she admitted she wouldn't be able to get a good grade on the final, and she didn't even show up to the exam room. This class caused me so much unnecessary stress ,I cried the whole semester.
I get biochem is hard (to learn+teach) and she is kind, but a lot of the time post-midterm she's confused, doubting herself, saying the wrong things...Aren't you a professional in you discipline! I think there are better qualified people to teach this course. Her teaching skills are just not good, you have to teach yourself everything. Shame on TMU
Why is this course unnecessarily difficult. The material could be taught much better if effort was put in. Could be easier if the slides had more material and it matched what was tested. She keeps contradicting herself which makes things more confusing. When you ask her questions she moves around in circles and has a nonchalant attitude.
Yeah that final had NOTHING from her lectures. Not only that but decides last second "I'm sick boohoo" and sits there smirking, posed like the michelin man while proctor deems "no questions will be answered due to professor's illness." I saw maybe 2 words i recognized. Anne, why is it so hard for u to teach after a decade? Dean will hear from me.
Anne I think it's time to retire hunny
Awful. Lost a piece of my soul during the final exam. It also made me question my ability to comprehend English despite it being the only language I know. If you're not religious before this class, you should pick a religion cause you're gonna need all the blessing you can get.
So many reviews and people saying the same thing, at a certain point its TMUs fault, idk why shes still teaching. Can't teach for the life of her, spends so much time on a few slides and speed runs the rest of the lecture, her slides are terrible, completely blank and worthless. I would say take another prof, but theres literally no other choice.
I blame whoever lets her teach this course over and over, knowing that she is sabotaging thousands of students who have goals and dreams
There was a large mismatch between the difficulty of the final exam and what she covered in class. Why does TMU not do anything?
I'm a good student. I've never failed a course, never even gotten close. But when a good student is questioning their ability to pass the lecture component of the course, in the midst of writing the final exam, that's when you know something is really really wrong.
What an absolutely atrocious class. Just a disgusting human being, that Anne Johnson. I keep wishing someone would finally take action — send an email to the program director, raise hell, something. Because this can't go on. There's no other professor for the course, it's not offered in the summer, and we're all stuck here. Godspeed to us all.
If you can avoid taking this course with her, do it I just wrote the final exam yesterday and I genuinely have never felt so shocked after an exam I feel like I just went to war. This professor is absolutely atrocious and the university needs to remove her. To add to this there's no summer class so we're all cooked :)
The final exam was so bad. I've been studying for weeks leading up to this exam, I memorized and understood everything on her slides and for some reason it still wasn't enough. I even did all her final review practice questions and all the problems set and understood each question and still didn't feel the exam was fair.
This course has been the worst course ever. There is nothing you can do to be fully ready for the final. The lectures and the content that is taught is so irrelevant to what you are tested on. The final was awful, as most people left earlier. I studied and memorized everything from textbook, YouTube vids, her lectures and still it wasn't enough.
She doesn't teach the material that she puts on exams. The only way to do well is to depend on youtube videos. She is also clueless when it comes to explaining the concepts. I don't know how she gets away with this.
I honestly feel bad for the amount she's getting berated, but she does it to herself. I just do not understand how someone can deliver a course so poorly and suck at teaching, and then make an exam with a significant amount of the material demonstrated in a way that students would never expect. it seems like her egos far too big to change her ways
Anne said at the start of the sem there's no book really in this course yet half of her exam questions are based on Lehninger and appling textbooks which are completely different than her slides so anyone who solely studied off slides woulda gotten deep fried
The only way she can make up for her horrible lecture slides and stupid exam is by at least curving it. I heard she doesn't and she told a student that she "might" curve by 1%? Knowing her she prob wouldn't. BCH 261 at least Gagan Gupta curved to make up for any difficult questions on the exam/midterm or not as good teaching..but Ann?? Prob wont..
Shame on you Anne Johnson. You have the audacity to teach NOTHING throughout the semester, yet give an exam that is extremely difficult, being fully aware that you taught NONE OF THAT STUFF. You are a sad woman. The cherry on top is, this lady sat in front of the whole class, during the exam, saying you are "too sick to answer questions".
She sat at the front of the class during an exam and refused to answer any question... this is the type of person Anne Johnson is.
Anne, i know your reading this. Do the right thing. Give us a break. We have Goals, Aspirations, please don't be the reason we let our dreams fly away.
Had I known how she was before I started, I would've considered changing my major. She is coasting off the fact that she has tenure, can't teach, and actively told us she enjoys making us fail. She straight up told us because she knows we hate her, she's gonna ask around to get people to boost her rate my prof score. DO NOT TAKE, AVOID
problem with Anne is that she *thinks* she's a good teacher but when EVERYONE says you're not, maybe do some self reflection? She will refuse to curve unlike Gupta, cause she must think the way she teaches is sufficient for student success. Her excuse is it's a “hard course” but everyone knows that her exam isn't fair compared to what she teaches.
Here is the post without trashing her, strictly review. Her slides contain hardly any info, and doesn't explain the topic. So not only is the teaching style/method very bad, but all the info isn't taught! But then all the info is tested on, worded poorly too. So what I am trying to saw is she doesn't prepare you well but expects you to know stuff
Unfair teacher, needs to work on her slides and the way she teaches.
I saw her on the TTC giggling with one of the TAs after being “too sick to answer questions” during the final exam…feels like the ultimate slap in the face after the horrible exam
I usually am not bothered to write RMP reviews of my professors, but I had to for Professor Johnson. She is the worst professor that I have been assigned to in my entire life. Not only does she lack the ability to teach, but she is also a very difficult person to get along with and has a horrible personality. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
As an A student got sent to Dagestan ngl. Just pull up to class broski even if ur not locked in record it look at the content before class or she gonna sound like gibberish. Her exams match content frm practice problems so run those hard but if u do what she says do the work n ur blessed still not impossible, tough when u juggling other classes
As I stared at the final exam I reflected on my career goals and aspirations considering the fact that they may as well be gone. I have never felt such an immense feeling of hopelessness overcome me while I logic out gibberish to attempt to rationalize the questions before me. Why design a course in such a way that clearly prevents student success?
Holy, I did the case studies, problem questions, showed up in class, but 70/80 of the exam questions were not even discussed in class. She pulled a "im too sick to answer any questions" when IN FACT she just wanted to avoid being asked for help bc even she doesnt know whats going on with the exam LOL. she doesnt deserve to be called a prof.
i done lost 15lb studying for this exam alone. spent 13 hours a day studying. went to office hours. every single lecture. asked questions after class. used her slides and practice problems. nd I am CONFIDENT I failed this course because of the final exam. second time taking it as well...6th year here i come, if i even make it alive. f* you anne.
unfair prof. examcovers content not covered in class
Dr.Anne Johnson you are a kind woman, but your teaching style isnt good, it was very disrespectful to sit there anddd not answer questions.
he professor was very kind and clear. Anyone who attended lectures would know she provided exactly what we needed for the final. The exam was more than fair, and if you failed, it's because you were illiterate and not smart enough for this degree.
Dumb ahh bih is writing her own reviews to bring her number up. That's all u need to know
This prof is acc a special bro. She writing her own reviews to save her career. This is why she's single and gets no hid . She faked being sick in the exam so no one could asked her questions about her trash ahh exam. The exam had nothing to do with the content she shared with us. Stop writing your own reviews Anne Frank.
I think she's tapped writing reviews to save her non existent career, the wiring is all messed up in the bih's head that's why she doesn't get any, imagine saying your sick so you have to answer to people cuz your just special, Has a degree in removing brain cells from students. ANNE IF I SEE ANOTHER REVIEW I WILL PULL A WILL BYERS ON YOUR AHH
When you sit down to review this courses content you realize it's actually very interesting and cool, but dr Anne makes it feel like a burden with her terrible and I mean awful teaching style. Anne, Gupta, (and Adler) should all spend 24 hours in a room debating who deserves to keep their job. I learned more from ChatGPT than all 3 of them combined
Funny thing about her exam questions is that a good chunk of it is copy pasted from quizlet, but the answers on quizlet doesn't match the answers she assigns credit for on the exam. So it's basically word games on the exam. Flawless exam design 10/10.
Do you guys want to create a Discord group or something? I know it's late, but if we can get together and send a formal complaint to the program director, best case, a slight curve happens; worst case, she gets away with it AGAIN!!
The course content and final exam don't match at all. We spent so much time on concepts that didn't come up on the exam. The exam is designed for us to fail and there's no other prof that teaches it either, nor is it offered in the summer. We have hopes and all after this degree. Idk why she's like this at all.
Anne... what joy do you get from failing students..like what even are you on. Please reflect on your teaching methods and testing.
Second time taking this course and I can't explain how terrible Anne is, god awful course that will make you question every bit of your existence
Terrible prof doesn't know how to teach, setting everyone up for failure
Wow look at these RATS saying they r gonna “tell the dean” ohhhh noooo im sure the dean will be so mad at the studentsss for voicing their frustrations with a teacher who has been absolutely horrible and robbing people of their future all for what? Her ego? Refusing to change because she thinks she's better than everyone? Gimme a break
Not you snakes ratting out to the dean like go ahead make sure he knows how bad anne screwed us all up like???
I question her PHD degree that can't teach undergrad students.
pls guys stop being mean and making fun of her weight. we need people to focus on her trash teaching skills and not her weight. maybe her being awful to students and not changing her ways thinking the way she does things is fine, is karma with all this trolling shes receiving, but that doesnt make it right. focus on trashing her skills not build
This is my second time taking this course and if I am lucky I will pass with a C-. I studied almost 3-4 hours EVERY day religiously and I can't explain how difficult it was to pass. The content is hard but not impossible however Anne Johnson is a horrible instructor who tested on everything except the things she taught. Avoid and pray. Worst prof
For sure failed the course the second time taking it after spending about 3 weeks to study for finals because NOTHING FROM THE LECTURE WAS TESTED….. HER EXAM WAS ON CONTENT WE NEVER LEARNED. I am now taking an extra year and taking this course at York because I am on the verge of permanent program withdrawal. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I feel so defeated by this class and professor Anne Johnson. Why have an exam on content that was never taught be we are expected to know it? She told me in office hours to study using problem sets but there was 0% overlap between problem sets and final exam. Final exam was brutal, extremely difficult. Praying I somehow pass
There are 200 reviews here with 1/5 recommendations - Believe them because this course is set up to make you fail. Already difficult content worsened by an incompetent prof who literally lies about what will be tested My chances for med school are ruined, and I have a 4.13 CGPA. Take the course at another uni
I don't understand how an ADVANCED class is taught by someone who doesn't advance in the topic. If the goal was to set people back she definitely achieved that! Anne Johnson cant teach and shouldn't be teaching, the final exam was 3 days ago and I still feel like waterboarding myself in my tears.
I'm sick to my stomach. I just failed my first class. I always get As This can't be real She didn't teach anything on the exam This can't be real
I wonder how she's been getting away with all this for over a decade. Awful professor, barely any lectures and nothing on the final was from her lecture slides, if at all. Please fire her.
Idk why yall fighting, both perspectives are representative of experience. yes in class she told us about carbon questions, tolds us the specific processes then said zoom out and look at overall connection of all processes and thus if we studied that way we were ok. but some question lik the other person said was not representitive of her class.
white lizzo strikes the cord again. didn't answer any questions during the final exam because it lacked the cellular metabolism to even move out of its seat. LEAVE THE FACULTY ALONE I GUARANTEE YOU NO OTHER PROFESSOR ENJOYS HAVING YOU HERE
There's people here actually trying to help future students with reviews, tmu isnt gonna rid themselves of their beloved, the best we can do is give them advice on. Just because we are not degrading Dr.Johnson doesn't mean u need to try and get the comments removed. attend class. do problems, extend concepts and ur gucci
Honestly, didn't learn anything, just showed up to eye this one bhaddie in my class
Final exam was so horrible only because the prof completely side tracked us with what was going to be tested. Definitely failed, not sure yet. Brutal course, you don't experience this pain in any other class except with Anne Johnson. Absolutely shattered and feeling lost
Such a hard final exam…. Why? Why can't an assessment be fair? Why not provide us with a FAIR study guide? Sure, exams should be challenging but this final exam was outright UNFAIR because it expected us to know information which was not covered or VERY briefly covered in class. I just don't understand how this is considered an “education”….
Reviews speak for themselves, believe them. She's the only professor at this university with such low rating and such a high volume of reviews dating back years and years. This department needs to fix up. Horrible course management
If the hiring process was to get the worst prof ever, they succeeded hiring her. Take the class with a diff prof so you get ur moneys worth. Super disappointed in how TMU selects really poor quality professors.
Some people did well n others didn't. The prof wasn't clear about what to study, but it's not all on her. After 15+ years in school, we should know how to spot high-yield concepts from lectures. She didn't make it easy, but we all need to take accountability. NGL nothing was unexpected other unis ask similar n we should be ready for all scenarios
Told people not to ask questions after class because her priority was dinner and breakfast. Told people to use her problem sets, and they'll do flying colours on the exam. Told people this class is not difficult, and people just don't study enough. Okay, Anne E. Johnson, your RMP says otherwise, & let's hope your career says that too, Winter 2026.
Hear me out, lectures were engaging, built the foundatio- for self-study and supplementation after. she taught with passion. her exam was mid but not brutal but when you go back look at notes and recordings after studying she gave alll foundations we needed. its a students job to extend out and not rely solely on her. shes very accomodating as well
She doesn't have much longer, she should be in a retirement home not a lecture hall
If you want to do good in her class, you have to take the lehninger textbook and shove it up urass. If you grind the problems in that textbook, you'll pass, but her lectures alone? no way
Anne is not escaping allegations. Worked for 5 weeks alone, studied everything she provided, used a tutor, Youtube, textbooks for this course and still proudly failed, I have a great feeling. How is this student's fault now when students work hard for so long? This is a course not a puzzle . Making sure she does not teach next year for sure .
she is the nightmare of the nightmare, this ___ bihh doesnt deserve to be human. please change your major if you need to take this course. i want to pursue dental school and the most i can do with these grades is afford a brush and brush my own teeth not even at home. and for medical i am the severe patient in needs.
doesn't teach content, isn't helpful, built like EDP445
Exam was WAY too hard for ANY student, not even a PhD student could prepare for such a catastrophe. She was always late to class because she had a lot to haul coming here (on her) and was built like Tismallah. I really hope there's a curve or something man
Dr Johnson, I'm sorry people are writing such mean things personally attacking you as a person, and I'm not saying it is right at all BUT maybe just think about what's driving people inclined to be so nasty towards you (again I'm not saying what people are saying about your weight is right at all, but people are frustrated with you for a reason!)
u guys are so rude, ngl theres so much over exaggeration going on. If others walked out confident clearly the issue is your study methods. do better. Instead of mocking a professor's appearance, try learning. Many of you memorize instead of actually learning, which is why you're upset about her exam. it tested application, not slides. Grow up.
Failed, see u next year Anne
9 of 10 orgo rxns recommend. Nah but let me lay it fr. I took this course last year and got A+. I did this through the makeup final which was 83. I got 88 midterm, 100 labs. this was NOT the result of anything to do with this prof, this prof is a really bad educator and test maker, you guys are not coping I agree. The fake reviews are pathetic.
For students in Fall 2026—consider this your warning. Every one of those five-star reviews? Written by the prof herself. It's pathetic, really—like she actually believes no one can tell. She's so damn delusional it's almost funny. Prob on the spectrum or something, spending her afternoons defending her ugly ass on RMP like it's a personal crusade.
To anyone taking this course- this review is actually written by a student, but unfortunately, there are other students who clearly can't handle the fact that some of us are mature enough not to blame a professor for not spoon-feeding us marks, are flagging them b/c they have nothing better and clearly have no business being scientist w such ethics.
I'm also sorry that Dr Johnson and the other professors have to deal with such nonsense. I'm glad that in a couple of years most of you will see that your just left with nothing but hateful remarks you can make about an accomplished person, cause clearly, with these comments, it's apparent most of you will never achieve any of the sorts.
Dr. Johnson was a very caring prof and nice when you spoke with her. I am genuinely a student writing this and i actually mean it. Yes, it exam was harder than what was expected but that doesn't lead to body shaming her. She has a family, she has a life, she has other things going on exactly like how we do. Don't be rude to her, she's a human, pls
Exams reflected NOTHING she acc taught in the course. In the lectures, she would write a few words on a word or circle something without explaining it. She loves to blame students for "not studying hard enough". Spend weeks teaching myself everything and maybe 5% of the midterm/exam was based off her slides. Good luck to those taking it next year.
I truly feel that the exam and midterm were made fair, I also felt like I actually learned how to research and expand on learning outside of class like you would in postgrad courses. I truly feel that Dr Johnson sets her students up for success, however, you need to be willing to be in the effort on your end as well.
“I'm upset because I didn't do well in the course so let me villainize the professor” - as a student who had to repeat the course because I didn't put enough effort in the first time- the teacher is not to blame, was more then fair on assessments and a lot of students lack accountability.
I dont get why you ppl defending this prof are absolving her of all the blame in providing an education. Just because others have done poorly does not make their critiques any less invalid, and y'all being upset about ppl taking down your reviews is so hypocritical when you're also engaging in this petty review taking down and squabbling.
Let's be objective here, this prof has been given constructive criticism before by various student groups and others in how to improve the course. Ideas such as "improve teaching", "lessen the impact of the final", "make the final correlate better with lec material." Since 2008 this course has faced complaints, with the prof unreceptive to feedback
Issues that arise are: the prof's unwillingness to improve, the lack of correlation between lec and final exam material, the slow pace of lecture including a lack of content actually taught (compared to what amount botelho teaches in his courses, this prof tests on a lot but only teaches 20% as much). This is not villainization, this is critique.
I really do think the mt and final were fair and the content wasn't overly difficult. The midterm and exam packages actually helped if you did all the questions and it's not a course that stipulates everything tested will only come from slides alone. Dr Johnson provided us with an overview and told us we're to focus,it was up to us to do so
I have a 3.72 CGPA in the program and I failed this course lol. Why do I mention my cgpa? To show that I'm not a student who just slacks off in school. I did everything a student would responsibly do. I attended lectures, went to office hours, did all practice questions & studied a month before finals. Failed lecture by 3% and thus auto failed.
Avoid. Her final was extremely hard and unfair. Failed the course, see yall in fall 2026
What a rollercoaster this course was. I really hope the department does something about BCH361. Extremely difficult and the material was taught horribly
Genuinely take it at another university but avoid Anne Johnson
cGPA doesn't mean anything, its about recognition of what she teaches and applying it. i have a cGPA 2.9 if that even matters, and i ended this course with a 95. why, because i studied the right stuff from her content, problems and lec. There's a code to be cracked with all courses, find it and you'll succeed even the deadliest classes. props
Just no…. there's no justification for this course to be as difficult as it is.
Firstly, most people skip class - then complain. Even though she teaches mechanisms that are not tested, which ik feels like a waste, you retain things she emphasizes. Anne Johnson is actually nice, course is just so heavy. Study w friends who can quiz you. Don't fall behind, watch yt vids, read the TB to learn metabolism chapters. You got this.
I will See you all in fall 2026. To the incoming class, the final exam was on about 80% of things she didn't explicitly teach. I guess you were expected to just know or self study in the dark lol. Don't even bother studying mechanisms, even though 90% of the slides are on that. Brush up on your orgo. Failed the lecture component
