This class is work. The first exam is difficult, but they get slightly (only slightly) easier. Be prepared to STUDY and the earlier you start, the better you'll be. Lots of MEMORIZATION. Oh, and DON'T MISS LECTURE (unless you want to pay for First Notes).
She teaches straight out of her notes so ATTEND EVERY CLASS!!! If you memorize EVERYTHING it is not a hard class. Oh yea, remember to take the Lab for this class it helps a lot. Not to mention, the Lab TA (T. Anderson) is a great guy and very helpful.
Likes to hear herself talk
"u don't have to read the book, just her notes" sure that sounds easy but its not. NOT IF EVERY CLASS YOU HAVE TO WRITE THE BOOK. i have to soak my hands in warm water after class to keep them from gettin numb.
mememorization is key in this class. make sure u study the notes a lifetime before the exam.
Not too understanding towards my personal circumstances, and the exams are HARD. You MUST memorize everything in order to do well, because some of the questions come out of nowhere. THERE ARE NO CURVES so unless you do awesome on the exams you will NOT do well in this class.
Notes are self explanatory. Too much note taking. Very interesting class. If you're good with memorization, this is your class. But if not, stay away. It is hard and there is no curve. Final is cummulative, but 40% is a gimme cuz she tells u to memorize the last exams. don't take if not interested.
She makes the material seem easy to understand until you get to the exam. There is no curve in the class. The lab is so easy and way better than the class. Rely on the lab to bring your grade up.
Great professor. Very kind and helpful. A whole lot of notes, but this is biology. She writes out everything you need to know for the test by hand, and if you do the same, you can do well. If acquiring loads of information in a short period isn't your bag, then this may not be an enjoyable class.
Very good professor. Gives EXCELLENT lecture notes. A word of caution - this is NOT an easy class and you do have to make it your point to study. But she provides everything you need to know - it's up to you to take it!
One of the best profs at Rutgers...notes are excellent, but after 3 hrs of writing straight from the overhead, your hand tends to get a little worn out. Exams straight from the notes, word for word. Don't buy the book...waste of money. Very approachful and helpful. If you can memorize notes word for word, take the class, cuz it's an easy A!!!
Easy professor. explains everything in simple language with simple pictures as an aid. LOTS and LOTS of note taking. if you go to class and get the notes you won't use the book at all. takes exams straight from lecture notes.
Exams come straight from lectures. Be prepared to write and write, and write.
Three hour long, saturday morning course...still interested? No textbook, No HW, No EC, Exams straight from her very organized handwritten lecture notes. Must come to every class or you'll miss about 2 chapters of material. Consider this a tough class since exams are your only points, and they require studying.
very nice prof.. clear notes. a lot of material but not hard
Great class if you are very good at memorizing lots of details.
Who ever thinks this class is hard is a lazy piece of crap. This is the easiest science class you can possibly take at RU, nothing by sheer memorization, and she makes it so clear. I studied <5 hours for each exam and didn't get lower than a 90 on any of them. Come to class, pay attention and do some work = A
She gives very clear and well organized notes. The material is very interesting and medically relevant if you are pre-med. Her exams are very easy and I like her grading style w/o a curve. Class is not hard, but you must memorize lots of details. Also be ready to write for 3 hours almost non-stop. But it is worth it, this is a good class and prof.
Greatest professor at rutgers, very straight- forward. Very clear on what is going to be on the exams. I LOVE HER!!!!!!
Dr. Keating is awesome!! She teaches in a way that is very easy to grasp. She is very helpful as well and no problems asking her any kind of questions. One of the best professors at Rutgers Bio department for sure.
As stated in previous ratings, this class is very easy as long as you are capable of memorizing the notes. The exams are extremely straightforward and are based entirely on them. She also helps you out by adding weekly quiz points on to your final exam grade. Good choice of a bio elective.
All exams are based on the lecture notes - no need to purchase the textbook. Fairly easy to get a B but must memorize every word from the notes to get an A. A laptop is a must for taking notes or your hand will fall off. Don't even expect to get out of this class early. Lab portion of the course requires a ton of work for 1 credit.
The class was very well organized. The format is the same as other classes taught by Dr. Keating which means a lot of note taking. The exams are very straight foward and come directly from the lecture notes. Don't buy the book you won't need it.Just memorize the notes thoroughly and you will do well. There is a lot of material but an A is possible.
Very well organized and seems to be a few of those profs who actually put an effort in teaching the class. Her exams are very easy and straight from notes. But its a lot of memorization. Her 3hr class is nothing but taking notes- laptop will def help. Dont buy the book Just memorize the notes inside out n you r guaranteed A.
her class is extremely interesting and her tests are easier than i thought they would be. studying her notes until you know the material well will give you an A. there are no suprises on exams. she is also very approachable and very helpful. you can tell she loves to teach, SO enthusiastic.
what an awesome class! def. go to class, take good notes, read them over and over again...easy A in the class... the material is pretty interesting too!
Animal Parasitology with her is extremely difficult, time consuming and torturous. Avoid this class at all costs. Heard it's much easier during summer
hard class, do not take.
despite what everyone is saying here, it really is NOT an easy A or B
do not take this class in the evening. three hours of lecture will drain you mentally. plus her exams are extremely difficult and hand-cramping. avoid if possible!
Very enthusiastic professor, but expects way too much on the exams. Long 3 hour lectures on material you will in no way relate to previous knowledge of the sciences. REALLY HARD TO GET AN A in this course! Studied a week in advance of each exam to get a C! Get copies of the old exams to pass ( about 20 - 25% questions reused) - I didn't know this!
A difficult class, requires you to memorize minute details for 10-15 parasites for the exam and the questions are very specific. Lectures are long and you're constantly writing notes. Does not curve and exams are extremely unfair since some students have access to old exams which are 20% of the questions.
Hard exams, class lecture is basically a regurgitation of information on parasites that you can find in the text. Does not provide any help to prepare for exams, but those who have access to old exams have a heads up on many of the questions.
The class is hard to get an A in, but a B is very manageable. Throughout class, she makes you write notes for about 3 hours. Reading the textbook is unnecessary, just look at the assigned figures. The class requires you to memorize every detail of her notes, but I think that is easier than trying to read a dense textbook and summarizing it.
Got an A, but not easily and Lectures were hand-cramping. Exams can be very difficult, but ALL questions come from her posted study guide questions. I studied by answering all these questions (with my class notes - all the answers are there) and studied them till I knew answers by heart. Questions on extra reading assignments are also fair game
This class is not that easy, she definitely stepped it up in terms of level of detail asked in the class compared to previous years. Study the notes, memorize them, and know them inside out. I think she curved my class even though she insisted 100% she wouldn't. I need a 100 on the final for an A and i doubt i got that, and still got an A.
As a teacher and person she is great and very helpful. BUT THE EXAMS ARE HARD, full of those tricky multiple choice questions. There are like 30 parasite species taught and you have to MEMORIZE all the little differences. If you HAVE to take this class (328), take it with her. (Memorize everything) Otherwise, AVOID IT AND TAKE SOMETHING ELSE.
Micro with her is difficult. Loads of information to memorize....she tests every detail from her notes with 80 multiple choice questions...wat is unfair is that people get her exams from previous semesters, and so have an advantage..
All I did was go to class and take notes and studied the day OF for her exams and I still got an A. Her outlines are VERY organized. A laptop is a must however and you have to type down EVERYTHING she says. But her exams are mc and based entirely on the notes you type up. The lab is a little tedious but it's on the same level as General Biology lab.
This class is definitely harder than when she teaches microbio. You have to know so many details for about two dozen species of parasites. I studied for the exams the day before and barely got an A. You should use a laptop to take notes since she goes fast and go over them at least 3 times before each exam. Also, she pulls questions from the book.
Class is 3 hours 40 minutes long in summer and u stay whole time taking down notes. About 20 pages of handwritten notes per class. Plus she has messy handwriting and goes fast. 70% of exam is based directly off notes from class. 30% on figures from textbook and sample questions from outlines. A lot of information to study but very straightfoward.
Dr. Keating is AMAZING. She keeps the lectures interesting and her voice isn't monotonous like a lot of professors are. She always asks the students questions throughout the lesson to keep us on track and to make sure we remember things. There is a lot of notetaking though, so bring your laptop. If you write down everything she says, you'll do well
Really easy class. Just memorize notes and study guides and it should be an easy A. All the people who dont do well try to study day of the exam study 2 days and garunteed A. I started studying on saturday and got an A by monday piece of cake class
Dr. Keating is AWESOME!! i love love love her. She writes all her notes on the projector clearly. Copy all the notes and memorize them! Only look at book for pictures. I used index cards to help my memorize her notes and I got an A. Shes great and stays after class for any questions. You MUST go to lecture.
prof keating is amazing! i hated bio 101, and i don't like biology in general but she made it so bearable. she writes her notes on the projector. copy down everything she says, study them, and you'll do great. she doesn't use the textbook except for pictures. definitely go to class. she explains everything so clearly. MUST TAKE!
She's MUCH better than the other lecturers of 102.She writes all the notes on the projector so you have exactly what you need to MEMORIZE.Just memorize everything she writes and ull do well.though this is a demanding course.you will suffer with other lecturers so take her.shes also really nice and exciting and funny.Quite pretty for her age too.
Avoid this class/ professor if you can. I don't know if she taught differently before, but this class requires days of memorizing about 10-15 pages of notes per lecture (3 lect/exam in the summer). If you can't memorize a ton of information very quickly, you will not do well. No curve & hard exams
Don't take this class, especially with her. There is a lot of notes, too much to memorize. She is not worth the money and time for summer class.
I totally enjoyed this class. I wasn't sure what to expect with it being a 4 hour summer course. Yes, the time is long, but the material is somewhat interesting & she is always talking & hand writing notes on the way so you must pay attention. Just memorize & do the readings. Flashcards work wonders.
As a person: Very nice and helpful. As a teacher: Straightforward with what she wants you to study for the exams (pure memorization), but her handwriting is quite messy. Lectures are hand-cramping and she goes fast. No curve, and make friends and get the old exams. You'll need em.
Don't let the other reviews here fool you! Bio at RU, regardless of the professor, is never an easy A, but Dr. Keating is one of the better professors. She's very charismatic and friendly, and her notes are all very clear. You almost never need the textbook.
She's very energetic. Compared to other professors that teach this course, she is definitely better because she writes notes. Other professors only have powerpoint slides. She does tend to go fast though, so maybe type up the notes.
She goes really quickly, but she literally writes everything you could possibly need in the notes she gives in class, so as long as you are willing to put in the hours to memorize everything you will do fine. The only thing that makes her class hard is the amount of material that she covers.
STOP READING B.S. REVIEWS. Prof Keating is straightforward. GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES!!! Only way to get an A. Exam questions straight from notes, but 1 or 2 from book. Yeah, its a dbl period, but its ONCE A WEEK. Don't forget, its a 300 level class, so its not easy. GO TO CLASS TAKE GOOD NOTES AND YOU WILL GET AN A. EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!
She's a horrible professor. i absolutely hated her class. She writes throughout her class on the overhead and talks way to fast and her exams are insane. there like 80 multiple choice questions. She doesn't curve nor does she give any other assignments to help your grade. Your grade is what it is out of 3 tests. Its a ridiculous class.Just don't
Alright. Okay. Okay. Okay. Alright. Alright. Okay, so.
Dr. Keating is very clear and concise. Her notes are very helpful and they don't include a lot of pieces of info that we don't need and confuse us. She does have a tendency to stop lecturing if she hears people having a conversation. But other than that, she has been very helpful. It sucks that she doesn't hold normal office hours like other profs.
Human Para. with Dr. Keating is very interesting, but extensive in quantity. She goes over 10 pages of notes per lecture, and there are about 4-5 lectures/exam. The good thing is all 3 exams are noncumulative and 1/3 of your final grade. 90 is the cutoff for an A, but do her study guides and review her study questions and you'll be fine. Def take!
She does write her notes pretty fast and gets annoyed if she hears conversations during lecture but she is a great professor. Her notes are very thorough and written in an outline format so you only need the book for the diagrams. If you are taking bio, take it with her. You won't regret it.
Dr. Keating is probably the best bio professor at Rutgers. She is very energetic about teaching the subject but does go fast in her lectures. As for her notes, she hand writes them in outline format for our benefit. Since her notes are very concise, you would mainly use the textbook for diagrams. Bio is not easy but there is a considerable curve.
This class is 100% straight memorization. So, just memorize everything in her notes and you'll get an A. There are a LOT of notes though. The material itself is interesting.
A great professor! Notes are helpfully! bad handwriting!!!! However! A great class!!!!!!! TAKE IT! IT HELPS YOU TO GET AN A IN BIOLOGY
Dr. Keating is, by far, the best lecturer for Bio 101/102. Her notes explain the material that you need to know for the exams and they are provided for you in an outline format. Make sure to go to class and be ready to write (or type if you bring your laptop) for the full 80 minutes. Overall, not an easy course, but she is definitely the best!
Amazing.
Keating is the best lecturer that the Gen Bio department has. She explains concepts very well, is extremely enthusiastic, and helps you connect the material that you've learned to previous stuff. The only problem is there is so much info to cover so she goes very fast. Bring a comp, type up notes, and review them outside of class a lot to get an A
She is simply amazing. I am a rising sophomore who is a Biology(Pre-Med) major with a Public Health minor, and her enthusiasm while teaching rejuvenated my interest in Biology. I got As both for 101 and 102 and she is just the best. I want to go on to pursue an MD/Ph.D and become just like her. She's really pretty and she is my role model. :)
Gives great notes which are all you need for the exams. Explains well. Just be sure to look at the Figures she tells you to look at in the book for the A, as well as studying her notes.
This was my second time taking a 300 level science class with Keating. She is straight forward and easy. Just study her notes 1-2 weeks before the test and you are guaranteed an A.
100% straight memorization. All you need to do to get an A is to memorize every single word in her notes.
Go to class and get all the notes. If you memorize her notes you will do fine. Best Bio teacher hands down. I got an A.
Great lecture style, she gives notes by writing them along with you throughout lecture. Also, the only time I used the textbook was for diagrams (she noted the most important ones during lecture). It's a ton of information but as long as you review your notes for exams you'll do fine. If you're gonna skip lecture sometimes, definitely get the notes
Basically you just need to memorize her lecture notes and you'll be prepared for the exams. Lecture can be a bit boring, but it is the material and not her. She makes it much more beatable than it would be otherwise. Nice person, very capable professor, and the class isn't too hard as long as you're willing to put some time into it.
Keating is one of the best professors around, and is by far the best choice for gen bio. She has an engaging lecture style, and leaves you with excellent notes to study from. You will never have to study anything outside of class notes, other than the pictures in the textbook that she highlights. I cannot recommend her enough.
Keating's desire and love for biology makes this course bearable. She outlines everything needed for exams. The only issue I found with her is that her "office hours" are after her lecture is over at 9:30PM, which doesn't give the student one-on-one attention for much help, although she is helpful through e-mail.
This class is straight memorization. Memorize her lecture notes and you will get an A. Class is definitely mandatory unless you have someone to get notes from
Pure memorization. But don't be fooled it's NOT an easy A or B for that matter. There is absolutely NO curve, so that's makes it more difficult. It's alot of material, interesting but still ALOT. You have to keep up with it or you will fall behind. Her lectures are good, but so long because it's 2 in 1. Wish she had it 2xs a week instead of a 3 hr1
SHE WONT GIVE ME LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION D:
If you're taking Gen Bio at Rutgers, TAKE KEATING. She writes the notes as she's lecturing, so all you have to do is copy exactly what she writes down and you'll be golden. She's really funny and even though the lectures are long and you're constantly writing, they're not that bad. Make sure you read the textbook in addition though.
Although professor Keating writes down the notes while she talks, I often felt as if the lectures were very rushed. Her notes definitely do not go into the detail needed for the exams, so you definitely have to read the textbook. Solely reading her notes will not suffice for this class.
Although gen bio 1 and 2 are department based Keating is the best lecturer to attend. If you are unable to get into her section I highly advise going to her lectures instead of your regular prof's. Her notes make gen bio easy. Just get them from someone or go yourself either or. She is also funny and really nice. Focus on notes rather than textbook
Keating is the best for Bio 2 and I wish I have known to take her for Bio 1!!! She's the best gen bio teacher there is at Rutgers and totally recommend her to anybody because her lectures are amazing and they cover everything that's going to be on the exam (P.S. she makes the test, so she won't give you any useless info)!!!
Professor Keating is, in my opinion, the best General Biology lecturer at Rutgers. She is funny, highly-knowledgeable, and very enthusiastic. Her lectures are easy to handle and she presents the material in a clear, concise manner. Only downside: her office hours are by arrangement only, usually directly following lecture, so it can get busy.
Dr. Anne Keating is a great professor. It is essential that you attend her lectures and copy down the notes she writes. The exams are very difficult, so make sure to study actively everyday. Also, be warned that this is a top 5 failed course.
Dr. Keating was an amazing professor. She writes the notes as you go in a clear cut outline that's easy to follow as long as you keep up. The outlines make it really easy to transfer lecture material into organizers for studying, which plays a huge part in helping you memorize the material. Tests were fairly difficult, but study and do well!
Best professor for Bio
Dr. Anne Keating is a sweet lady and I enjoyed her lectures. The key to doing well in Gen Bio 1 is going to lecture, taking good notes from lecture, memorizing the materials everyday and never missing workshop! The tests are really tough so make sure to study almost everyday so you can retain information in your memory.
Dr. Keating is a fantastic teacher, and just what you need for a hard course like biology at Rutgers. Her lecture is really just her writing down the notes for chapters of the course. They're easy to read and she explains them with great energy, even when I had her for a late class. However don't let your guard down. This is not an easy course.
Dr. Keating is, by far, one of the greatest professors you can have for a science course at Rutgers. If you are looking for someone very straightforward when it comes to grading, take her classes. Go to class, take the notes, memorize them, and an A is certainly achievable. You need to work to get an A, but she is very fair. Take her for micro!
She is clear and concise, the best general biology professor at Rutgers. I have heard the others lecture. She goes at a really great pace, writes everything you need to know.
She's awesome! The way she teaches is completely helpful. You have to try really hard not to catch up. Also, everything she says will be on the exam
Everything she says and writes, Write it down! Don't miss anything. Her tests are basically memorization of the notes and the study guides she gives. If you memorize everything, you'll ace the exams! Pretty straightforward in that sense. The class is a doable A.
Ace the tests by memorizing everything on her study guides and notes. That's all. Don't procrastinate with the memorization of the material. It's completely possible for everyone to get an A in that class if they kept up with the material. The class is three hours though so have some coffee since you're just taking copying down her notes.
I took this class as for a bio requirement. If I could go back I wouldn't take the class. This class should be 4 credits opposed to 3. If you like pure memorization then take the class, but expect 3 hour lectures with nonstop writing. She is very unapproachable, she knows her material but the amount of notes is ridiculous.
The class is hard in general but the lectures were fine. She moves really fast but the notes are very helpful.
I do not recommend taking her class unless you are looking to get carpal tunnel 50 years early. An average class results in 10-12 pages of typed notes on Microsoft Word. Absolutely NO Extra Credit or Curves. She definitely knows her material, but exams are based off of pure memorization of 20+ pages of study guide so studying is daunting.
Pure, 100% memorization - no trick questions, no application either. Lectures 3hrs of note taking (with a 10-15min break inbetween) that adds up to 7 pages of notes (typed) on average. Lecture isn't "mandatory" but you will need to get notes one way or another in order to pass- she does not post her notes online. MEMORIZE STUDY GUIDE for an A
lectures are 3 hrs long but bonus is that lecture is once a week only. you need to go to class and get notes to do well. The class is 50% lecture and 50% lab. so you need to do well in both. if you study and are dedicated, you will get an A. You just have to stay on top of your things and study at least a week ahead for 100% efficient memorization.
Be prepared to write, write, write. And when your hand inevitably cramps up from writing, write some more! Her lectures are dense with information, so I strongly recommend you bring a voice recorder. You will excel in this class if you do a lot of the reading and diagrams on your own time; she can teach you, but not *learn* for you.
45-53 pages of notes per exam(3 exams), Strictly memorization, 3 hour class(10 min break), exams are easy if you study weeks in advance. No extra credit, boring class meets once a week at 8 am. No book required.
Professor Keating is an amazing professor. She is very clear about what to study for the exam. She speaks a mile a minute, bc there is a lot of material to go through. I suggest for you to sit in the front. Her final review session is very helpful. Gen bio is a DIFFICULT class, but Professor Keating helps me understand it the material the best.
shouldn't procrastinate or this class will be so stressful, if you do make sure u have at least 2 days of pure memorization, meaning u should be able to mentally bullet out the 45 pages of her notes off top of head/ compare different organisms. if u can do that, the exams are straightforward and u will get an A. no curve so don't mess up an exam.
If you mess up one exam, you're pretty much out of the game. Make sure you give this class a solid week of pure devotion for a B on an exam, and at least 2 weeks if you want to lock in that A. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. She's awesome, but she doesn't curve or give extra credit so its crucial to keep up. A lot of notes, went through an entire notebook
Keating is a professor who gives you all the information you need. It is crucial that you memorize everything in her lecture notes. Easy A if you do this. Textbook is mostly useless, skip out on buying if you can
Focus on her lectures, do not just write what she writes. Write what she says as she is writing, it will help a lot more when reviewing. Her exams are based off her lecture notes, do not read the textbook because it will probably confuse you with the amount of detail, but you need it for the figures. Loved her enthusiasm. Best professor ever.
I'm in Human Parasitology and I wish I wasn't. The lectures are absolutely miserable. It's three hours of nonstop, breathless info-dumping, and if you miss ANY of it you're ruined. This is a very cool subject, but it's turned to painful drudgery by her teaching style. Only take this course if you've got nothing challenging going on simultaneously.
It's a LOT of info, but if you show up to class and take notes you'll be FINE. It's super clear what you have to know for exams, and she posts study guides. Don't bother buying the book. Not an easy A, but interesting material and great professor!! (also she takes attendance every class so go)
Study her notes and you'll do fine on exams. Bio exams are generally hard.
Excellent professor, the best option for Gen Bio at RU. 1st choice, DON'T TAKE GEN BIO at RU! 2nd choice, if you're stuck and have t take it with Keating. She talks fast, but you can follow her. She is VERY concise and clear in her outlines. Write down everything she writes on the overhead projector. Exams are written by the dept.
Long lectures with a short break in the middle, Dr. Keating explained the concepts as clearly as possible and posted study guides of what would be on the exams. There is a lot of information thrown at you though, the exams go into specific detail. Didn't really use the book, but useful for figures she points out in class. Would rec, but work hard
Very engaging during class.
Second time taking bio 1 and honestly loved her lectures. she's so energetic and no matter what bio is a hard class, but she makes it a little more endurable. highly recommend her over anyone else. you MUST go to class to understand the material and prepare for workshops regardless of how much a TF 8:40AM sucks, she is worth taking.
She is super sweet and really excited about the material that she is teaching! Come to lecture on time and ready to write:)
I have done pretty well in bio classes in the past, and I genuinely have no idea why Human Para is considered to be easy. I really don't like how Keating doesn't upload slides, give any kind of real practice, and tests on such specific material without any kind of curve. Least favorite class of college.
Great professor and really explains everything. Exams are fair.
She is a great lecturer. She does a great job at maintaining your attention and explains the material well. She will answer questions before, while, and after lecture. The tests are decent. If you study and prepare for it with time, you should be fine.
Keating is hands down the best, most fair professor I have ever seen at Rutgers. Although they are speedy, her lectures include all the material necessary to pass workshop and exams. Her office hours are helpful and she does not introduce material that is not necessary or would confuse you. I used the textbook but I wouldn't say it was necessary.
Super nice and holds weekly review sessions, her lectures are large so there is little participation and she goes VERY fast, plus you will need her outlines for BIOS forms for workshop and they are not online, so get ready to type fast.
Very passive-aggressive when asking for help. She is a tough grader on exams and will mark a question wrong when spelt slightly incorrect. She does not respond to emails well
Dr. Keating is very passionate for what she teaches. If you consistently show up to class and take notes - then cross reference those notes with the study guides she uploads, you will definitely succeed on her exams. Her exams are pure memorization but can be quite long. Couple days of cramming should be sufficient. Nice woman and very helpful.
Must go to lectures since notes are never posted for gen bio. She is very passionate about what she teaches and is willing to answer any questions.
She's a very sweet lady, but EXTREMELY hard to reach. She doesn't respond to emails or even on canvas. Her exams are not hard with open notes, but without them (as in with an in-person course style), this would be incredibly difficult. Her lectures give you everything but they are DENSE to put it lightly. A huge time sink if you need to memorize.
I felt the way she adapted to online learning was exceptionally fair. Also, I was very disinterested in the material initially but she made it pretty fun and interesting. Her exams are tough, lots of comparison questions and roman numeral questions, but completely doable.
i love prof keating! shes so sweet and kind! the review sessions she had were really helpful, and shes energetic even at 8 40 AM lol. you can tell shes really passionate about bio and what she does! Bio 2 is info-heavy so its time consuming to memorize everything, but the lectures are clear and organized. Just make sure you can write notes fast!
I had Professor Keating for Bio116 online. She is hands down one of my favorite professors at Rutgers. She posted lectures every Tuesday and Friday morning. The lectures were so organized and easy to follow, and she is very good at explaining. Just take good notes on her lectures and you'll be fine. I'd recommend taking this class online!
Extremely organized. This is Gen Bio 116 though and this is stuff you have to learn and memorize for your future classes. Her videos were spot on in containing that information.
Dr. Keating is a very efficient professor. She is super busy and not very accessible outside of class. But her lectures are specific and clear. Attendance is not mandatory. She has pre-recorded lectures posted every week.
she gives way too many assigned videos lecture, and then makes you attend an actual lecture. The recordings are long, and she is extremely anal about wording and detail with answer choices in exam and quizzes. The lab structure is also overly complicated. (her voice gets kinda annoying when she talks to us like we're 5 year olds)
Dr. Keating was a great professor who made this material easier to understand. The class is set up in a way to help you succeed if you do what is asked of you. The first part of the semester is very difficult with the phylogenies and there is no getting around that. Keating is a great professor and cares but you MUST work hard to get a good grade.
The prof was really nice and explained concepts clearly. However, I just hate this class and it is way harder than it should be. Workshops are so much extra work and exams are extremely hard. The averages were really low. Thankfully the grades were a little upscaled so you ended up getting a curve basically.
Dr. Keating is the most inspiring and passionate professor I have had at Rutgers thus far. Her lectures are so interesting, even if you are not interested in parasitology to begin with. The class does require you to watch lectures and take notes but the exams are fair and not that hard.
Her lectures are very well organized & clear--they are basically all you need to know for the exam, don't bother reading the textbook. Her review sessions are also helpful. The class overall isn't easy, but if you put in the effort to studying outside of class & participating in Workshop/recitation, you'll be fine. She is also very approachable.
Bro don't take this class
She is a nice professor but has a horrible attitude towards learning habits. Does not release any notes for the exam, so basically if you're not there you're done. I am paying to at least get notes but for some reason, she is not even answering emails about it. Horrible professor do not take this class.
please don't take this class unless you want copy every slide word for word and memorize information for the test that you have no understanding to. seriously waste of money and time never again.
Dr. Keating is enthusiastic&energetic during lectures and speaks clearly BUT she gives her students no resources. Does not provide us with any power points & give weekly TIMED (10min) quizzes that have EXTREMELY confusing questions, locks quizzes so you can't see what you got wrong. Wouldn't have taken her if I knew she'd be this type of prof.
Extremely smart and sweet professor, but don't expect to score well on her exams unless you literally memorize every word of her lecture. This means you need to go to classes too, as she does not post the notes online (no curve either). There are little resources she offers to prepare for these exams.
An amazing professor, enthusiastic and makes you understand the material. You HAVE to go to lecture bc she doesn't post slides. but as long as you understand the material and focus on comparison of parasites, you can do well. It's not a difficult class, but really heavy on memorization! Making charts def saved my grade.
She uses a lot of pictures from textbooks which sucks if you're handwriting notes. She reads from the slides like she hasn't prepared for the lecture but is actually very knowledgeable. Tries her best to create enthusiasm and interest about the topics. Would recommend going to lecture since the Gen Bio department are stingy and don't post lectures.
This class was definitely hard but Keating made it better, she is one of the better professors for gen bio. She is a great lecturer and is passionate about the topic. If you have a choice in professors pick her!
an amazingly easy A if you are good at memorizing a billion pages of single spaced notes. put in a lot of effort and you will do well. her exams are fair and all the content is in her notes. is the insane amt of effort to do well worth it tho? probably not. wouldnt take her again
Not a great professor. Only take this class if you have the time to memorize 40 pages of notes per exam. She refuses to post notes online so it was annoying having to go to class every time. Class is not difficult if you put in the time as exams are fair and straight from the notes.
Attendance is mandatory, you will not have enough time to copy all of her notes down, and she does not upload them online. You will fail.
I don't really know where all of the good ratings are coming from. the syllabus is design to fail a student. The quizzes you can't even look back, no curve, very few exams. no diagnostic. I just too my Exam 1, didn't do great. I hope I can apeal for it. we'll see. I wouldn't of taken this class, if I know it be like this. no room for hope here
Out of all the classes that I have taken at Rutgers, this is the most unnecessarily difficult class there is. Each exam is 55 pages+ of the most stacked information imaginable. And you have to memorize, every, single, damn, detail, imaginable. 90% of your grade is simply exams, No guides, No posted PPTs. Dont take if you dont want to CC worm testes
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. Her powerpoints are beautifully made and her positive attitude made it a little easier to be in lecture at 8:30 am. The class itself is very tough, but she presents the material in a way that makes it much easier to learn
Parasitology was incredibly unnecessarily difficult. The quizzes are easy take home but that hardly does anything for your grade because 90% of it is exams. It's like gen bio all over again but even worse. Expect the same kind of exam questions as gen bio, so many organizers and just a super heavy amount of information to memorize for each exam.
Keatings is engaging and explains her material thorough and well. Parasitology is certainly one of the harder classes I've taken and it is a lot of work to actually memorize the content. The course is 90% exams making it even harder. As hard as the class is Keatings teaches well and if you attend the lectures and put in the time you will do well.
This is one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. Its only brute memorization. There is no way to catch up if you miss a single lecture. Professor literally said after first exam that we could forget about everything we've learned thus far cause we won't need it for exam 2. Like, it couldn't be more clear that she isn't trying to teach.
Truly the best professor and lecturer I have had in my life. I always come to class really looking forward to her lectures as they are very organized and she is very passionate when lecturing. Thank you, professor. I learned a lot and it has been an excellent experience.
Lectures were for sure fast paced, but as long as you're ready to give class your full attention each time, her lectures are great. She explained each topic really well and her slides were super well organized. The lecture guides she posts on Canvas are a HUGE help too.
Her lectures were interesting and well-organized, but the main annoying thing was that she didn't post notes online so you have to go to class/ask someone for them. Exams are reasonable and similar to gen bio questions. The lab portion of the course took up most of the time and had a lot of work due each week including lecture vids
She is not good for bio. Take, Dr. Beal or Dr. Cardinale for biology 115/116. They ONLY give you info that you need for exams. Keating has a bunch of useless material in her slides that make it lengthy.
She is a good lecturer and explains the topic very clearly. I think she puts a lot of useless content on the slides which makes it unnecessarily long. She is very fast-paced so it's hard to jot down all of the notes. Other than that she's a good lecturer.
Excellent professor and those lecture guides are the best! Notes are far superior than Stern and Beal from what I've seen. Very very very organized!
Professor Keating is a really good professor. Attendance is not mandatory but go for the lecture guides as it helps with organizing the material. Lecture is in outline form so it helps with studying. Also def do workshop before workshop which they will say many times throughout the semester. She sometimes talks fast but that's my only con.
If you want notes that go straight to the point I suggest you to take Stern or Beal b/c Keating goes so fast and is lecture heavy b/c of the extra stuff in her notes that are not even on exams! Though, I'll say if you're a visual learner, her lecture guides will help you grasp concepts better but other than that her lectures feel like an eternity.
Professor Keating is a fantastic lecturer - her slides are super organized, and the lecture guides she posts on Canvas are a huge help. While the pace can be fast, her explanations are clear. I found Unstuck ai really useful for exam prep too.
one of my favorite professors i've had so far. u can tell she loves what she teaches and her exams are extremely fair, nothing surprising. i'm finishing bio 2 rn and had her for both courses. made my love for bio even deeper honestly. her lectures are lengthy and she doesn't post them either, but i prefer attending in person regardless.
-doesnt post notes so you'll have to go to lectures if u want to take ur own notes but groupme ppl usually post the slides -exams are straight from slides word for word so just memorization/superr straightforward -exams count heavy so lock in1st exam like me or else you'll have to grind the rest -she curved ours by 2 pts so shes the best for that
Highly recommend taking this course with Dr. Keating. The exams were straightforward and taken from the lecture slides. Very similar to General Biology in the lectures and exams. If you show up to class and study you will easily get an A.
Honestly she is okay, but she wasn't for me. The amount of work I put in didn't reflect. Like others here, I do think that some of the info she puts in is not needed. Study workshop before workshop. She goes extremely fast in lecture, will be retaking this with another professor probably. I understood her teaching, but not so much and not easily.
Her energy makes the lectures bearable. She's okay. Keep on top of the material if you want to do well
Dr. Keating is AWESOME, biology is just a tough course. She has so much energy, so her lectures don't feel as long as they are. You have to stay on top of the lectures and notes, but she offers lots of office hours, test reviews and such. I would take GB115 with her!!!
Dr. Keating was a great professor and explained the topics very well. The course is lecture heavy but she's very organized and explains the material nicely. Her review sessions help so much with retaining and understanding the information!
Dr.Keating is an amazing lecturer, and an amazing professor. She is very passionate about her subject and students and genuinely wants everyone to do well and understand the material. She was always available to answer questions. Your grade depends on going to lecture, as she doesn't post lecture slides, but she makes it worth it.
Anne Keating is a good proffesor, she cares about her students and wants them to do good so she provides the best methods possible. Other than that, stay away from Doga Oruc as a TA. You will NOT get a good workshop grade.
Prof is the best lecturer at rutgers and makes the lecture content so interesting. Test-wise, the exams are fairly easy as long as you know the lecture information really well. Issue is that here is a lot of lecture information and this class was one of the most time consuming class to study for. Be warned, do not take this class for an easy A.
She's organized and content is clear, BUT IT IS SO MUCH HARDER THAN EVERYONE SAYS. Unless you're good at memorizing terms like plasmodium falciparum and every step of their life cycle, diagnosis, treatment, control, etc. plus 10 other species, you will have a difficult time in this class. She doesn't round at all, a 79.9999% is still a C. Good luck
