Very easy to learn from and very willing to help
No Comments
very tough professor, but you WILL learn something in her class. she's always willing to help students and knows what she's teaching.
Her little quizzes are a ****
Her teaching was so easy to follow adn understand. The tests are short essay, which can be a little tough, but I definitely felt prepared for everything. She makes sure that everyone understands the material.
Pchem Lab. Probably one of the harder courses in the chem program. She did her best to get us to figure out problems rather than tell us right out. And always willing to help.
An obnoxios know-all who obviously dislikes male students. Why do we let second-rate Canadians take jobs away from our own people? The sooner she leaves the better.Avoid!
How i agree with last comment.Campus-wide rumors of a divorce and affair showed in her snarly attitude -plus she was never there for office hours. If she cannot be civil to male students she should get ajob in a 'wimmins' college-and not take it out on men
Opinionated.Unhelpful.If you dont absolutely love Chemistry you are out.Plus all those stories about her divorce. If only half are true then don't cross her or you will feel her revenge.Give a wide miss.
Can i add a comment about professors who neglect their students needs to constantly go outside the room to talk on their cell-phones.they are paid to teach us,not to talk to husbands, friends, whoever. She had too much stuff going on to do the job .Poor.
Be fair guys-if she chooses to wear comfortable shoes then that is her choice. My problem is that she mumbles a lot and seems to have no other interests in life than chemistry-which makes for a lot of knowledge but a dull course. Not someone you can warm to
Anyone seen constantly in the company of Evelyn Goldsmith is obviously not someone you would rate highly on the people scale.I did not rate her either as a helpful prof.Very snarky at times. This Ms. is a miss.
Whether they like it or not, profs are role models as well as educaters. She is a good tutor and i enjoyed her. However,my parents live in her neighborhood and what has gone on there is beyond belief. How IUP can keep her on staff is beyond comprehension.
Although chemistry has never come easy for me, she made everything very clear. She gives great notes. The tests are short essay, but if you attend class and study your notes they should be easy. I liked her a lot!
When she explains how to do the Chem, it makes sence to her but not the students. Its seems as if she is talking to herself instead of teachering.
Dr. Kondo is a very nice teacher. she is very helpful when it comes to needing help.
I had Kondo for Lab. BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!she jokes around during lab, but still helps you. is very concerned about your learning. awesome person
The work cam be a challenge, but the organization of each lecture, and distributed practice leads to an excellent grade in this class.
The class is NOT easy and she doesnt even TRY to help. She means well, but she expects that all of her students are CHEMISTS and expects them to actually comprehend what she is talking about. Her exams suck! Her grading sucks. Her labs suck! She gets an F!
The 1st test had a class average of a D, and the 2nd and 3rd test class averages were F's. Half the class ended up failing (50+ class size) and she could have cared less. Her solution was 'Well, you can take the class again'. AVOID!
She gives a ton of notes, but they are very helpful. Some material is tricky, but if you work on it a little it isnt bad. STUDY!
She treats her students like they are chemists. Chances are you will not teach (in elementary schools) what you learn in the class. She presents way too much information. She is not helpful. We had tests in Lab as well as Lecture.
This is the worst teacher ever if you want to even call her that. She can't teach so you have to go to SI sessions that are normally when you have class. DO NOT TAKE HER! You will not pass the class; tests are extremely hard for an ELED major
This is the worst teacher ever. She can not teach a class if her life depended on it. Too many notes and extremely outragous tests. She is a nice person, but that counts worth nothing when you are failing.
a little intense, most of the info you probably won't teach ever in the elementary, but she tries. her tests are hard, but SI sessions help. Even if you don't think you want to go to SI, say you do, so they schedule them in your free time!
JUSTIFY ALL UR ANSWERS on the tests. She marks everything wrong and is so critical. Ask her a question and she's too smart to answer it. She's a nice lady but a really bad professor for eled. majors.
This could be THE WORST teacher I have ever possibly had, EVER. She is unclear in her objectives but assumes that people will thoroughly read her 4 page syllabus. Her tests are absurd due to her outrageous amount of notes and her short answer questions.

She sucks at teaching and explaining the subject. You take so many damn notes in that class it's crazy. The tests are all short answers with justifications. The tests are hard as hell and this class is impossible to pass. No way it should be for ELED.
I thought Dr. Kondo did a really good job teaching this class. It's not hard at all because we only cover the basics of chemistry. If you think it's hard go to the SI sessions, she gives bonus for it. Chemistry can be hard & I think she does a good job.
I don't understand why everyone thinks she sucks. Dr. K was a good prof. Classes were structured and outlined. She was always willing to help and tests were based entirely off of notes. Study and you will do fine! Sheesh.
I'm very bitter about her class at the moment. The class average on our first test was a 60%... let's just say that was the first F I ever earned.
(insert many cuss words here) SHE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER FOR SCI 102. IF YOU ARE A CHEMISTRY MAJOR THEN WHO KNOWS BUT FOR ELED SHE SUCKS. YOU WILL NOT GET A GOOD GRADE UNLESS YOU LIVE AT THE TUTORING SESSIONS. CLASS PACE IS TOO FAST AND SHE WILL NOT SLOW DOWN. IF YOUR NOT A CHEM MAJOR STAY AWAY!

I had to withdraw from this class:(((((( Only 3 tests in the class, don't fail any of them.
She is difficult but take note that the course itself is also difficult. With that given, do not take the course as a get over, nor underestimate your ability to do well. Anyone who is serious and studies correctly will do fairly well. I didnt and usually I do, but I am sure it is possible...Bottom line: PAY ATTENTION but dont stress!
Kondo was great for Chem 111. 112 was really hard, but no impossible. If you study and take class seriously, you will be fine. You have to go to class, and she does give credit for attendance and homework sometimes. Tests are difficult, but she is willing to help anytime. If you are focused, study, and go to class you will do fine.
Kondo really loves chemistry... her eyes light up when she talks about it... If you're willing to study, take advantage of office hours and tutoring, it is possible to do well. She's willing to help you if you're willing to put forward the extra effort. Participation based on h/w, tests fair (but difficult!) and straight-forward, notes from ppt.
did not very make her teaching understandable its really hard to get what the hell shes saying.
She is alright, can be a little bit monotonous after awhile teaching, but she loves what she teaches and is the most friendly of professors I've ever seen in a chem class so far. I recommend her for taking chem 111. I think it is a little rough getting an A or B in her class, but clearly possible. I should have tried a little harder.
Dr Kondo is a great prof.. too smart for her own good. She can breeze right through a subject, sometimes forgetting we're not at that level, but she'll stop and go back. Always there during office hours. I was dredding this class, went to tutoring and office hours. Wound up getting an A!! (crap myself) She really wants you to pass.
Very nice. But goes really fast. If your not strong in chemistry i wouldn't recommend her.
I was told that this class would be hard, but Im here to tell you she is an awesome professor. I got an A and I never touched the book or studied really hard. Teaches from ppt and will explain it to you a million times if you need it. Def reccomend it.

Dr. Kondo is my hero. She's brilliant (which can be intimidating at times) but very willing to help and explain things more than once. I think the negative ratings from the SCI 102 folks reflect the challenges of chemistry more than Dr. Kondo's abilities as a prof. You have to earn your grades, folks! Go to class and apply yourself!
Dr. Kondo is great! She is very willing to help in any way. I agree that the negative comments by some should be taken in relation to the topic and not relative to Dr. Kondo. You will have to work hard, but Dr. Kondo is a fantastic professor!
Tuff class, she's cool and will always help. She cares if you do. Curves and gives extra credit on all tests. Gives alot of partial credit on exams (thank God!)Asset to the chem dept. Too smart for her own good and she teaches at about mock 90...(real fast). I would take her again fer shure.
my fave science teacher.. work hard and you'll easily get an A. very helpful and obviously loves what she does! :)
She is a great teacher. I am in a very large class, so her work is cut out for her. She goes very fast but keeps all of her notes on the P Drive so you can print them out.
decent teacher. she is very nice however, she teaches EXTREMLY fast and doesnt explain things very well b/c she talks about 500 words amin.(she is extremly inteligent and prob doesnt understand stupidity/ not understanding concepts is willing to help most definetly you will have to work pretty hard for a good gradde but its well worth it so BUCK UP
Test are very difficult, no extra credit or curving, goes through information very quickly. Attendance not required, nor recommended. (I always went to class. Not worth it) She has notes you can print out and fill in that don't help at all. Just read the book. She never looks up from her notes so ?s are left unanswered unless you speak up. Don't.
She is a decent professor. She does blow through the content quickly and it is some pretty tricky stuff but she will repeat herself if you ask. Exams are not that difficult. She provides a study guide that is just about the same as the actual exam. Some annoying homework assignments though.
Dr. Kondo rocks! She is one of the nicest profs at IUP. Always willing to help, and explains things very well. I can't believe some people could say negative things about her. She is awesome!!!!!!!!
She is the most useless professor here at IUP. She teaches so fast and the tests are so long. You do not get anytime to finish them. Do not waste your time going to her for help because she wont. I did not like her at all. She gives a regular test the week of finals so in reality you have 2 Chem tests that week. I hated her!!!!
OMG, THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT SINKING IN THIS CLASS IS THAT AROUND 1/2 THE CLASS IS DROWNING WITH ME. GOING TO CLASS IS JUST POINTLESS BECAUSE SHES TOO CONFUSING AND WONT SLOW DOWN. I FEEL DEFEATED AND LIKE MY DREAMS ARE SHOT. I REALLY TRIED. SPARE YOURSELF, TAKE DR. E.
I can't speak on her lecture class, but she's a great lab prof. Writes out the procedure outline for easy reference, and doesn't blast your lab grades for simple mistakes. She gives a bonus point on lab reports that follow a simple checklist. Just be prepared for the lab quizzes. Overall, a great lab prof provided you take it seriously.
she tries to teach it well but doesn't understand that we don't all love chem as much as she does. her class is pretty hard & when she gives an example in the notes it's easy but when she gives a partner challenge it's a harder example. she is very nice and very willing to help anyone and doesn't have a bad attitude. Her lab is an easy A.
Dr. Kondo is a very nice lady and willing to help if you email her or go to her office hours. Sometimes unclear when going over material in class but drops lowest test n gives bonus points every once in a while for going to class. SI and ACS tutoring were very helpful in passing this class.
Great teacher, very helpful gives you all your note BEFORE class online, she barley ever take addenance she gives out home work which she collects from 8 random people and take home quizes which everyone must turn in. Very easy class.
Dr. Kondo is a wonderful professor! Her exams are about every two chapters. She gives some bonus. Sometimes the information can be overwhelming, and she goes a little fast. She is passionate about Chemistry. Go to SI tutoring. Do the worksheets. You will do well if you attend lecture (even though she doesn't normally check attendance).
Dr. Kondo is very sweet but if you do not have a pre-existing knowledge of chemistry & math you may struggle. She doesn't use the book & almost all the questions on her tests are math based not concept based. She moves very quickly during class however she posts all her notes on p-drive and it's VERY helpful if you print and bring them to class
Professor Kondo is a great teacher although she sometimes moves a little fast and it's kind of hard to keep up with her. She rarely takes attendance and only asks for homework if she randomly calls your name. Tutoring helps alot and i got an A in the class. Goodluck if you have to take this class i do recommend having Dr.Kondo as your professor!
Her lab is straightforward. She takes the time beforehand to explain the experiment. She will walk around and give hints if you need. Note: you are expected to do the pre-lab assignment and read the procedure BEFORE coming to lab. Pre-labs are part of your grade, and you will lose major points if you come unprepared.
Great teacher, she is very clear although sometimes does go a little fast. She makes up for it in her helpfulness though. Always willing to talk about problems. I will be taking her again.
Had Dr. Kondo for both 111 and 112. I always hated chem and I still do, but I got out of it with an A and a B. She is very nice and very good at presenting information. As a lab teacher she is also fair and kidna fun.
I have always hated chemistry, probably always will, and this class added to my hatred at times. Class is rather difficult and fast paced but manageable. Kondo is a very fair grader and has bonus points on all exams(2 point caption for a cartoon)and will give random points for attendance. Very nice prof that I would recommend taking.
Dr. Kondo is a very good teacher. Go to every class to complete the worksheets and ask her questions when you don't understand something. She does go a bit fast but she always gives time after her short lectures for you to ask questions on materials that aren't quite clear. I loved her! With hard work an A is a very realistic goal.
I really enjoyed this teacher. She is nice and helps you when you need it. Only thing I don't like are the online quizzes and hw. Tests are easy to pass if you study. She gives out great reviews and practice tests. Lectures are helpful. Wish all my teachers were like this.
Very kind, sweet woman. Absolutely brilliant, but her lectures tended to be pretty fast-paced and hard to keep up with. In-class assignments were really helpful, and she gave pretty good feedback on assignments and tests when you did something wrong. Study guides were excellent, but you definitely have to work for a good grade.
Dr. Kondo goes above and beyond to help you learn. She's very nice and very passionate about Chemistry. She was always there to help me- even minutes before an exam! There's always work to do for the class, but all of it is useful and keeps you on track. I never had a positive experience in a Chemistry class until I had her. Grades fairly.
Chem 105 was a tough class for me. Anne never really taught us anything other than how to read her awful powerpoint presentations. Only cool part was we got to watch episodes of CSI NY in class. Wouldn't take again unless i had to.
Dr. Kondo is a very sweet woman. She is hard to understand sometimes, and can go kinda fast. She expects you to go to class but she does not keep attendance. She does in class assignments almost every day, so attendance is key. She uses the online code for the text book to use the Connect program where there is online mandatory homework.
Dr Kondo is a very caring professor and I would recommend her to anyone. She really cares about her students doing well. She offers many bonus point opportunities for when you are struggling. She sometimes goes quickly through her powerpoints but it is very possible to get an A in the class.
Dr. Kondo is so helpful! She makes sure you understand the topic you are learning and will help you if you ask. Exams are scan-tron, and the highest I got was an 88. She curves them, also. Just study. You get bonus points for going to class. I was sad I couldn't take her for CHEM 102. Take Dr. Kondo!
Dr. Kondo moves extremely fast through everything. Most of the time I am confused and end up trying to teach a lot of the stuff to myself, especially the chemistry part. Watch a lot of CSI episodes. Lots of group work in clads, which she grades pretty tough. She gives study guides but a fair amount of test questions aren't even on the study guide.
She is a nice lady and knows a ton about chemistry and CSI, but she goes through the powerpoints really fast and it's hard to learn. I am get confused and end up teaching myself the material, especially the chemistry part. We get a lot of surprise in class assignments and group work. Her grading is ridiculously unfair.
I love Dr. Kondo! I wish I could take her for all of my Chem classes at IUP. She is very caring and is so sweet! You get tons of extra credit so as long as you show up and do the assigned online homework you will for sure get an A!
I loved her! She was really nice and took time explaining things if you asked. Three tests, but SO MUCH BONUS. My advice? Print out the notes from Sapling, follow along, and get a Chegg account. That thing was my lifesaver for Sapling! She goes fast, so keep up!
Very sweet professor. Pretty easy curriculum if you took chem is high school. Most tests were very easy and she even curved the hardest one. Final is cumulative but only 15 questions were from previous test material. Would definitely take her if you get the chance!
Dr. Kondo is a very sweet and VERY smart lady. She can be intimidating at times but she truly cares about helping her students and will help you through the work to get you to the answer. Physical Chemistry is one of the hardest Chemistry courses IUP has to offer(C's are good in this class!). She has a lot of office hours too so use them!
She is the coolest person I have ever met. Super funny and unbelievable intelligent. You can learn so much from her. Makes classes really hard because she wants to you to think and learn. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT AN EASY A.
If you're looking for an easy A... not the professor for you. She makes you work for it but is such an unbelievably smart lady that the class is worth taking with her. She doesn't give away answers and will respond to your questions with questions so that you really think about it and come to a conclusion by yourself. Takes time to help if needed.
very helpful, she wants you to learn chemistry and is very willing to help outside of class even when she is very busy. hard class but very rewarding if you work hard
Dr. Kondo is a very nice professor who cares about her students and their understanding of chemistry. There are only a few quizzes which are very easy and there's a final quiz. She'll help you through any part of the lab, all you have to do is ask.
Hard to understand at times
She is so sweet and one of the best profs Ive ever had. She really wants all of her students to pass so she has office hours and before tests, she has an online question program that you can attend. She gives out practice exams that look almost identical to the real test. Best teacher Ive had. She gives a lot of extra credit too!
My favorite professor yet.
She goes extremely fast through lecture and examples but never posts the examples anywhere else. She uses the program Aleks for homework and has no idea how to work it. It gives you anywhere from 5-10 topics two times a week and there's no way to get it done in less than 3 hours. Although she gives you a study guide for exams she grades them hard.
Possibly the most unorganized professor I have ever had. You will not pass just from following her notes. Does not make neat or easy to follow PowerPoints and you are better off just studying the textbook like crazy if you want a chance at passing. I will never take a class with Anne Kondo again.
Great professor! Lots of bonus point opportunities. Material can be difficult to understand, but Dr. Kondo is very helpful. I was always asking for help, which is why I got an A and was able to finally understand chemistry!
