I fell bad for her, she got tossed this course @ the last minute, but shes not helping herself by doing problems incorrectly on the board and then blaming us for agreeing it is correct. Group quizzes... No homework. Good couse for a non science major.
Shes a really nice lady. Although her notes can be unclear. does a lot of math
Does a lot of math that I would understand more if I was a math major. Gets notes from the book, which cost about $150, writes them on the board but doesn't explain enough. I had a hard time following along. I did well in every class but this one. The book was useless to me and waste of money.

Nice lady but she had no idea what she was talking about. if u ask her something, she will tell u she doesnt know but we should look it up for extra credit or she will get back to us. she is a nice lady and we have fun in that class but when it comes to work the notes were unclear and out of order.
Nice lady but very hard exams. The quizes are in groups but it doesn't help your grade much. At the end ofg the semestre she scales the grades with helped a lot! its and all around ok class... extremly borring though
Attendence is Key Tests are straight from the notes but they covered too much random material which made them tough to study for She hates correcting so she gives too few tests and group quizzes so if you do bad on one you're basically screwed but she scales I thought she was lazy and unknowledgable
Insisted on writing on the board that u couldnt see**** on/she had computerized overhead. One of those classes where you take notes for 2 months and then you get one test on it w/ out n e review. BORING BORING BORING. (Do the group assignment @ the end of course. Unprepared to some classes
She was a good teacher, wrote alot on the board and overhead.
It was so bad that it made me feel so... Unintelligent. Group work for tests were ridiculous... it was stupid, no one understood what she wanted. I thought I was lazier than her, but I think she tops it. I love Chemisty, but I think she killed it for me. I'm retaking it this year because I withdrew from her class, it was that bad. Sad Story.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS......She doesn't know half of what she talks about. She starts problems out and then ends up correcting her own mistakes. her tests were ridiculous...she never went over what would be on the tests or on any of the quizzes. In general she sucks , she may be nice but she is a really bad teacher
Really down-to-earth professor....she goes over everything you might need to know for an exam....however, quizzes were short and one wrong move could set you back to a 60 or 70 (She'll drop your lowest). Overall, take her if you have the chance!!
Very poor teaching. She places the book in front of her, reads parts of it aloud, then copies exactly what she just said onto her overhead. Not her fault, but she's left handed, so it's hard to keep up with notes. Also, when giving examples, she goes through the whole equation then says "Oops my bad" and corrects herself. Not pleasant during class.
Teaches right form the book, quizzes are pretty hard as well as her tests. Will do problems wrong on the board, feels like she does not want to be there. Takes a while to get stuff back.I would not recommend her if you are not that good in chem. Available to help you outside of class, but does not know her stuff. funny teacher though, favors boys
Just talks.....not bad but boring. Doesn't grade anything and lets TA's do all the work...................if you get Carlos as a TA god hates you.
do not take her class!! lots of work and the tests are so hard!
It was her first time teaching CHM 101. She didn't know what she was talking about her self. I hate OWL all of the HW is on that. She drops the lowest 3 Quiz grades and 1 of the test grades. Her class is easy. You don't need the book at all a waist of money but you'll need it for CHM 102!
She very bright and clear when she explains things. Not sure what happened in her other class, but I enjoy her lectures and learn alot from her.
Great teacher. Don't know what people are complaining about. She's clear and helpful. I've learned alot more from her than from the book. She makes things make sense. I'm taking her again this semester. Last time was worth every cent.
She messes up on what she is saying very often. She makes a lot of mistakes. If this had been my first time taking CHEM I would have done horrible in the class because she presents the material in an illogical manner and sequence. She does allow for group tests, though, which gives her a few extra points.
She's very unclear and often makes mistakes when teaching the material. She's nice enough but just doesn't know what she's talking about.
By far worst teacher I've ever had. Loses her thoughts midlecture, makes countless mistakes in example problems, and is impossible to get any help from. After SHE messed up my grade, it took nearly a month to hear back from her trying to get it fixed. She's disorganized and not overly smart. Don't take her class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.. IF YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR DAY TO LISTEN TO NOTHING ALL DAY THEN YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS CALSS.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.. YOU WILL LEARN NOTHING FROM THIS CLASS... HAD TO TEACH MYSELF EVERYTHING BEFORE THE TEST..
didn't learn much and i taught myself what i did learn.
I don't suggest taking this professor. She writes over the projector with her left hand and then pulls away the sheet very quickly. There are quizzes every week and they are very difficult. We had a take home quiz and I used the book but I still failed. If your good at teaching yourself then maybe you'll be able to pass, but I doubt it.
She could not teach and did not know how to. her grading was very off and she was just horrible for an lecture hall, which was what she taught. sure she knew the material, but us students did not
I'm not quite sure what all the hype was about... her class was easy and she was able to explain everything thoroughly. She seemed willing to help anyone who asked either during office hours or after class.
I found this class easy if you studied. I thought her grading was very fair and when I thought it wasn't, she willingly gave me more points. However, she can be obnoxious if you somehow get on her bad side.
Her notes were hard to follow because she's a lefty and would cover up most of the notes with her arm. The hw on OWL that she assigned was vry helpful and she ws willing to give students extra points for attending tutoring sessions. There were no surprises on her exams, her quizzes were exactly what was going to be on the exam. Her final was easy.
The class itself is painfully difficult. However, she knows the material and is willing to answer any questions. Puts up a lot of OWL's but they are actually really helpful. Overall she is a nice professor.
Excellent and very fair.
Goes over the material well, gives plenty of practice problems and relevant homework, but is a horrible tester. Does not allow enough time for quizzes. I know the material, have currently a 4.0, and can do all of the work given the time, but she will give a 30 minute quiz in 10-15 minutes. Does drop 2 quiz grades, tests for speed not knowledge
Worst professor I have ever had. Class average for every exam was a failing grade. She explains things horribly and doesn't review for her exams. OH, and she won't scale.
She was a lefty so printing out class notes ahead of time is practically a must and allows you to keep up and stay with her explanation and mark up the printed notes instead of worrying about catching up on the notes. Tests were moderately difficult but expected. She answers most questions.
Super hard teacher, just read the textbook and do mastering and you'll be fine. Go to tutoring. Her quiz and test questions comes straight out of the book.
Has a good sense of humor, tests and quizzes can be tricky but offers a lot of bonus point opportunities which should guarantee a good grade if you put the work in. Tends to drone on and not very engaging in class, and makes a lot of mistakes and lacks clarity at times.
Chemistry isn't easy. She goes over material in lectures. She only goes over the material that is on the quizzes and tests. She tells you what is on the quizzes. Read the book and do the chapter problems and you will have a much easier time. I do not believe she is a hard teacher, students just dot want to put the effort in. Study & you'll be fine
Prof. Liberty is the honestly a great prof. Take advantage of the packets she reviews in class b/c the exples are useful and can help when it comes to knowing what to focus on for her quizzes. Regardless, chem is a hard class for most people and at this point in college I'm sure we should know that most of the learning takes place outside of class.
She is the fastest teacher ever
This lecture goes off of the textbook and mastering chemistry(online) where homework assignments are due. Major parts of your grade are from test and quizzes alone, so make sure that you do well on these or your grade will be poor. Material is challenging and tutoring only goes so far, if you struggled with chem in high school don't even bother.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Never smiles. Grouchy and very unapproachable. She goes over material very quickly, Her quizzes are brutal! 2 questions. 50 points if you don't know one of them you fail. And that is how she is. Never taking her again.
Professor Liberty is a tough professor, but definitely one of the better chemistry professors here. If you learn better by professors giving lecture note packets and then going into detail while going over them in class, this is definitely the class for you. She's a difficult grader but makes you earn it.
Great.
Prof. Liberty is a hard teacher. But if your read the textbook, take notes in class and review those notes you should be okay. Also if you go to her office hours she will help you with any questions you have after reading the chapter.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Simply does not care one bit of her students, explains horribly, very monotone, no extra credit, really difficult tests without scaling. All of my test scores were below failing and she did not seem to care or help. No idea how she's still teaching.
Liberty was a decent professor, one of the better chem professors I've had. She's a little boring with her lectures, but I'm pretty sure there's no way to make organic chemistry fun. She was a little cranky from time to time, but I found it amusing. She never gave sass to the students like I thought she was going to. She was kind and respectful
I had Liberty for lab and she was terrific. Her pre lab wasn't always clear but once you get into lab everything is very understandable. She has a great sense of humor and is very easy going.
Very smart, seems mean in class but if you go to her office hours she is really nice and helpful. All homework is online and due sunday nights, you can get over 100 on homework assignments. 1 quiz every week, 10 for the semester she drops the lowest 5. 3 Tests and 1 final. She has a personal tutor that does help session packets for extra points!
This professor is an interesting one. She's smart, clearly, but pretentious as well. A lot of people call her "mean" but it goes beyond that. She doesn't care and treats her students as degenerates. Her mistakes/typos will be your responsibility; she refuses to see people as actual human beings. She keeps an inadequate grading TA every year.
The worst teacher I have had in college so far. Such a mean person as well as a bad teacher. All over the place with material and grading. Will take points off for anything she can. This teacher doesn't care if you pass her class, even though it's a smaller course with one-on-one interaction. If you want to pass chemistry, take it elsewhere.
Anne Liberty is by far the worst professor at UMASS. I have had her for two semesters (151&152) . Do not expect her to teach you anything, as she will write things down so quickly that you will not be able to follow and will scowl at your questions. She does not even write her own test questions. Partial credit is not a thing to her. Avoid!!!!!!
Liberty is tough. The material is complicated and she expects most of your learning to be on your own. Lots of homework is assigned online and the website for that is finicky. It takes a lot of effort to do well in this class. However, she's nice to you one on one and will drop quizzes to help improve grades. I don't think I would recommend.
This was my second time taking organic 1; however, I do not go to UmassD. She was great. Material was presented extremely straight forward and if you do practice problems you will receive a good grade. Definitely need to dedicate time, but she is awesome!
Avoid this professor at all costs. Calling her class "hard" is an understatement. Looks down on students often. If you fail her class you'll likely have to take her again as a professor. Be prepared to teach yourself because learning in class is very difficult.
All of these reviews speak for themselves. The only reason she still works here is because everyone who could report their bad experiences in the 'end semester teacher review' had to drop the class.
If you want an F in your transcript then take this class. :)
Speeds through lectures, have to attend a separate help session in order to be able to pass.
It will take books to write a lot about how great Professor Ann liberty is but I will keep it brief and tell you a lot about Professor Ann Liberty . Omg she is the best chemistry Professor , omg there is no such person like her . She made positive difference in my life tbh , she inspired and I still use all the skill she taught me.
Avoid at all costs. She tells you that you will fail the first day. Hard course prepare for tears.
She really knows her stuff but if you dont do your homework and study then she can across as the hardest professor in the world.
Horrible. Do NOT TAKE this course.
Lecture material heavy, has a lot of slides that she does in class. Must read the slides and do the examples after class on your own. The slides go with the chapters in the book so get the book to. She is of no help in Office Hours, will tell you read the slides and read the book. High drop out rate. No extra credit. Moves thru slides too quick.
This is my first time taking her and what I've heard is that this semester she has improved tremendously. Her lecture is very straightforward and homework isn't too bad if you can follow along with her. She does explain notes if you ask, and has started giving a lot of group quizzes which is awesome. I recommend her, expecting an A post midsemester
I have night terrors over her
Unless you read the textbook front to back 8 times, or better yet have another professor, you won't pass.
WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD. On the first day of class she will tell the class that most won't pass... avoid at all costs, yes chemistry is not the easiest but she makes it extra hard and intimidating
I was honestly afraid after reading her other reviews on here, but I have to say she's not that scary. I have v little previous chem exp., But came to class, took notes, and it was easy. She does grade tough sometimes, but she only counts your best five quizzes. Only thing is she is not very easy to reach by email. Apply yourself and you WILL pass.
I think liberty is a decent person but also she is a bad professor. I really dont think she cares about her job and she can do better. She rarely responds to your emails and if she does its just a one word response. To top it off she was late submitting our final grades on coin and she didnt even have the decency to email us.
Professor Liberty is very fair. Listen to her advice about textbook problems they may appear on exams. Weekly quizzes, she takes the best 5 and many are group quizzes. Many assignments to balance your grade and they are helpful if you keep up with them. Gives up to 10 points back on exams if you attend tutoring sessions which is helpful.
Oh Liberty. I love this lady because shes hilarious but I suck at chemistry so I didnt enjoy this class. Her teaching methods didnt work for me either but she was down to earth. She doesnt really care what others thinks and she gives me a vibe that shes over teaching. I found her really funny but chemistry was terrible. Thank God Im done!!
Ah liberty. You know the song from Moana "what can I say except, Your Welcome!" Go in expecting the opposite. Liberty is very smart and if you go to office hours will explain everything clear and concise. She is very tough but she is a good prof if you know what your doing.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Almost every single person failed the exams, the highest grade on the first exam was a D+. People studied for 50+ hours and got 40s. Terrible professor, rude, told us we would fail on day 1. She blames technical problems on us. Doesn't give a periodic table or a correct equation sheet. Worst prof I have EVER had.
Run in the other direction as fast as you can. This class is a NIGHTMARE. if you can, take it somewhere other than UMass Dartmouth and transfer it in!!! Shes the only one who teaches 152 and this class makes me regret my career choice everyday. She gives 1 practice problem in lecture per topic, her exam questions are so hard. Everyone is failing!!
Ah, Prof. Liberty. This is a Gen Chem II class and she doesn't let us use supporting documents like periodic tables on the exams. She only gives one example on very complicated subjects. Trying to learn rate laws from her is an absolute nightmare. Convoluted explanations. The only prof for Chem 152 at UMD so I suggest you transfer it in! AVOID IT!
Words cannot explain how terrible Liberty is. She began the first day of class by telling us that would would all do poorly. Im a straight A student who studied more for this class than any other class ever and I never got above a 55 on a test. Liberty makes it impossible. She is unbelievably rude and provides no help or answers to questions.
The worst professor Ive ever had. Takes forever to reply to emails & is very rude. Shes the only person that teaches this class at UMD so if u can take it elsewhere i would recommend doing so. The tests are nearly impossible to pass and include material not discussed in class. terrible teacher
I personally loved Liberty and don't really see where most of these previous reviews are coming from. The course is hard, but Liberty offers TONS of extra credit and assignments to boost your grade. Start studying early and do practice problems. If you fail the course, it's on you, not Liberty. She is not as bad as these reviews show! Good luck!
I suggest avoiding Liberty at all costs if you care about your GPA. She had no remorse or care that classes were online (and more difficult). Goes fast during lectures, barely giving you time to digest the material. Hard to reach outside of class. Only good thing about this class is that you can earn some points back on exams if you go to tutoring.
It is worse than the reviews on here even say. I have a 3.9 GPA and I dropped because I knew I was either gonna fail or barely pass. Hard professor is one thing, but she has no interest in teaching and expects you to just understand everything.
If you want to tank your GPA, take this class. She doesnt care about you learning and hates her job, she wont want to help when you ask. I cant even put into words how awful of a professor she was.
If you really wanna ruin you mental health, by ALLL means please take this course. If you'd like to not be give a periodic table on your VERY fist exam please take this course. Honestly quit possible the WORST class I have ever taken at Umass. Almost dropped my major and i'm not even chm. If you do get stuck with her all I gotta say is good luck.
Professor is rude and lacks emapthy in her teaching. Lectures are messy. Expectations are high and sometimes unrealistic. Materials in this course were not extremely difficult to learn but if you're taking a course with this professor, I highly recommend leaning on outside resources like the book, youtube videos, and tutors to save on stress.
Liberty is rarely reachable outside of class and even in class. She barely responds to emails and when she does its either only half of what you asked or its 2 weeks too late. She doesn't know her own syllabus or even what goes on in her coursework. It seems like teaching is just a burden for her. Avoid taking unless you are confident in the class
