I dropped after the first class, horrible prof. Extremely arrogant, doesn't know how to lecture clearly, expects students to easily conform to her terrible teaching style. No doubt one of the absolute worst teachers I've ever had, and I am a 4th year "B" ave. student.
I have over 120 credits under my belt and this is by far one of the worst teachers I’ve encountered. She has a HEAVY accent and speaks quickly- not a good combo. She spits out too much complex material too quickly. She needs to lose the attitude, speak clearer, and better organize her study material to belong at UMD. I would avoid her by all means!
Avoid this sorry excuse for a prof! In my opinion, she is extremely arrogant, can't speak clearly, and uses pointless slang from England. By the way, if (God forbid) you take this prof, you better remember every little bit of econ you ever had. The first class she'll be talking to you as if you know it like the back of your hand. BEWARE!!!!!!!!
All what is said about her is true, but she is not that bad. you only take three tests and if you study the assignments before the test you will get a good grade.
This class sucks big time! She doesnt speak english very well and is horrible with examples and explaining. Makes up her own way to do things, which makes learning much more difficult. Do not take this class unless you dont want a good grade!
One of the best profs at UMD! Lectures are interesting and humorous. Granted, she has high expectations, but if you do the homework & read the book the tests are fine. 85% is still and A, plus she drops your lowest exam (out of 4). Great English accent too! People who have complained in the past were just too lazy to do the work! A+ teacher!
To the last comment...haha! Simply not true, and yes, an 85% is an A, but if she didn't have the curve like that, everyone would fail. The material is, in my opinion, well above what should be taught in a 400 level class. I think that anyone who is planning on taking BE 401 should find another prof. You've been warned!
I Love this professor. She is one of the BEST profesor at UMD. She actually teaches instead of reading the slides & actually expects students to know and understand the material not just memorize it. If you want to learn something from this class, I would definitely recommend her. If you are looking for an easy A, she is not the prof. for you!!
This lady is very hard on her tests. This is the third economics class I have taken and I did get an a-. Econ teachers are all difficult. I would recommend her but you have to study the material. There is not a lot of examples to study so it makes it hard. If you can do the assignments you will do good on the tests.
Statt's class is great. She is very bubbly and tries to make micro fun by telling the story behind all the theory. Very colorful examples and she gives interactive printouts of all the lecture notes so you can pay attention instead of frantically scribbling down your own notes. Tests were mostly from lecture and very fair. Highly recommended.
Prof is not great at elaborating on a topic if you need further explanation. She does try to make Econ interesting. Tests are very demanding (1hour long with about 1:30min of test material). You must know ALL of the material at a high level to finish the exams on time. Almost 100% of the tested material comes from the handouts and lecture.
In general this class is tough, but I don't find this professor to be very helpful. The grading scale is forgiving though, so that definitely helps. She goes pretty fast and usually tells students with questions to come to her office hours. Your grade is based primarily off of 3 exams (90%). The other 10% is homework and class participation.
Go to the SI sessions! Make sure you know the formulas and when to apply them. Didn't buy the book. But I did get the assigned homework done. Don't fill the cheat sheet in with examples and random facts. STAY ORGANIZED. Pay attention and teach yourself along with her lectures.
Not a good professor. She does not teach the material at all, however, her grading scale is on a curve and her exams aren't particularly difficult if you're able to teach yourself the information.
I disliked this professor. It's almost pointless asking her to clarify anything, she'll run herself in circles until you're not even sure why you're there anymore. A likable person i suppose, but If you can avoid her for this class, do it. If you can't, listen the best you can, because if you think you're confused, she's going to make it worse.
This is a stats class so there is hw every week that is graded. Doing it helps a lot on the tests. She's an easier grader for the tests and gives a lot of partial credit. She's very clear on what she expects and how she teaches the material. 4 exams and drops the lowest score. Pretty easy class if you pay attention. Book is barely used but needed.
Does not encourage students to ask questions. Rushes through material, making you lose focus on what shes even teaching. Talks way to fast needs to slow down. Study guide does not help, is not clear about what she wants. Make the class harder than it needs to be. The only good thing about her is that her grading scale is a curve 73% is a B.
Does not encourage students to ask questions. Rushes through material, making you lose focus on what shes even teaching. Talks way to fast needs to slow down. Study guide does not help, is not clear about what she wants. Make the class harder than it needs to be.
Her grading scale is amazing. If you want an A you have to get an 88 overall in the class. Lets you use a cheat sheet on every exam. On the final she lets you use 3 page cheat sheet. Easy course. Not much homework. No quizzes. If you know the slides, you're set for the exams!!
You can tell she wants students to do good and shes very very smart. But, she rushes through material and NEVER answers questions correctly. Is super confusing, exams are so hard its ridiculous. I really really reccomend taking someone else because her class is the most difficult ive ever taken
Her accent is very difficult to understand, especially because she rushes through the material like we all already know it. We don't use the textbook much in class but outside of class it helps a lot. She refuses to see you outside of her office hours. She isn't clear when you ask her a question. DO NOT take her if you can avoid it.
She is probably one of the worst professors when it comes to grading. If you do not do exactly what she wants, she will mark you down heavily. She does not offer much help. She doesn't believe in office hours on the day of exams because if you don't know it, you never will. You will have to over work just to get a good passing grade in the class.
I will never take another class with Prof. Stat. Her lectures are confusing; she jumps around a lot. She is the toughest grader I have ever had. I would have an A in this class considering I took it once before, but I am still struggling. Don't take this unless you're ready to do nothing but stats.
Terrible professor. Quite possibly one of the worst at UMD.
This professor made me miserable. She rushes through the material and you will NEVERRR understand what she is saying in lectures because she talks so fast and then says "EVERYBODY GOOD" and moves on before saying otherwise. DO NOTTT take her. worst class.
She wont 't help outside of class unless you can go to her office hours, rushes through slides, and has not curved when everyone failed the last exam. She is very rude, hard to understand, exams suck, homework is insane, she doesn't care about her students, and get ready to teach yourself. 10/10 do not take. BTW I have proof of her refusing to help
Statistics isn't something that everyone will understand right away, it takes time outside of class. She was very helpful and would sit with me for hours in her office whenever I showed up. SHE DOES CARE, just ask for help! Also, do the homework yourself. I started seeing results on tests when I decided to actually do it, not copy! DO THE HOMEWORK!
I just completed this course with Professor Statt and I can honestly say it was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I know this is a required class for some so try to do the weekly online quizzes and learn how to self teach yourself. She confused me a lot so don't freak out when starts talking, I got by on teaching myself. Good luck!
Her british accent makes it hard to understand her at first but you will get used to it. If you need help her office hours are the only way to get it unless you go to SI. Your grade is based on 3 exams (each worth 24% of your total grade), weekly online homework/two statistical reports (25% of your grade), and class participation(3% of your grade).
Statistics is honestly a complicated subject from the start. The math is easy, it's the concepts you need to understand. I got an A in this course and I can tell you that I did it because I read the chapters to understand the concepts those who did not read were always confused if you read the book you will ace the tests book concepts are MC questi
Dr. Statt is a great teacher I wish more students can see that! If you go to her office hours and ask for help she is more than willing to help she can tell if your trying The subject is hard dont let it bias your opinion on the teacher she is probably the smartest person on campus learn from her read the book do the practice problems you will pass
Statt is a great professor. I did not pay attention during lecture because it is hard to follow her, but if you read the book, do the problem sets and practice the self test questions before the exams, you will do just fine. If you go to her office hours, she will help you, especially for the problem sets. You get also get a cheat sheet on exams
This is the worst class I've ever taken. I rely solely on the textbook and the tutor. To me, it's not worth asking questions in class lectures due to the professor not answering my them because I "don't understand the concepts and need a tutor." The SI AND her office hours are during my classes and she REFUSES to see me outside of her time.
Prof. Statt made this class so much harder than it had to be. It is hard to understand her at first because of her British accent and very fast talking. I attempted to go to her office to ask for help and she literally kicked me out of the office saying that she doesn't have time for me. She rushes through everything. Try to avoid if possible.
This was a tough class. The lectures weren't really helpful, you have to do the problem sets and teach yourself to understand the material. Professor Statt is willing to help but her answers didn't always help me. The tests and reports are difficult and she's a harsh grader. She makes you work for it but it's not completely impossible.
I am in the minority of students when I say that this class is not that difficult. I'm convinced that the people that do bad in this class just simply don't pay attention enough. It was a difficult class no doubt, but she teaches you how to do everything (so ignore people that say she is a bad teacher). If you pay close attention, you will pass.
Professor Statt was great! Some of the things people say just aren't true. She makes you work for it, but you will learn a lot. The material isn't easy but she teaches you everything you need to know for the tests so if you show up, pay attention, and do the problem sets online you will be fine. She even lets you use a notes sheet for the exam!
Dr. Statt should not be teaching an intro- stats course. She is extremely knowledgeable, but does not know how to explain key concepts. I had to teach myself this whole course. Most homework and most studying i've done in my 3 years of college. Take someone else if you can. Very bad lectures, not easy class at all. I have 3.85 cumulative GPA rn.
Professor Statt is the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures do not help, I had to teach myself everything. The statistical reports are very difficult and she does not offer much help for them. Try to avoid at all costs.
Dr. Statt's class set up forces you to work hard. If you put in the work required, you will get an A. Also allows cheat sheets on tests.
Keep up and Do the problem sets and the homework. Participate in discussion boards, study, ask questions and you will be fine. Class is tough but she knows that and knows how it goes. She grades hard but if you make a detailed cheat sheet and study for 4 days before test youll be fine. And dont become overwhelmed
Avoid at any cost. Very tough grader. Lot of home works.
She gets a bad rap. Compared to the 301 prof, she was 10x better. There's way too much hw, but it helps you on the exams. one midterm, one final, one group project that combines the whole semester, and weekly hw. Again, way too much stuff thrown at you over the semester, but she's a good teacher.
Lot of homeworks and a hard grader too.
OMG! My worst nightmare!!!! She ruined our weekends. We outlet needed over 15 hours a week for this class
AMAZING! If you don't like Professor Statt it's because you're not paying attention & doing the work. Yes the weekly homework is time consuming, HOWEVER the class average for the first exam was a 90. Oh, and she's British. Show up, pay attention, ask questions, take good notes, and stay in constant communication with your group and you'll be fine.
Hard to understand and gives out a ton of homework. Seems like a nice person just a very tough class with her.
Hardest class I have ever taken is an under-statement. Your whole semester will be dedicated to doing her homework. She gives you way too many assignments. Hard to understand, rude, refuses to help her students.
Worst professor Ive ever taken. You cant understand anything she says. Her lectures are super long and she never helps out when you ask questions. Shes very cruel and just doesnt care. Shes British so shes got some different type of culture. Offers cheat sheets on exams and they still barely help. Get ready to teach yourself. 0/5.
First exam was easy second exam was a curve ball. She is good one on one but in class never understood her.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. I insist you do not take her or you will be miserable. She treats you like you are below her and I did not like that at all. BEWARE. Run before you end up in her class.
THE WORST EVER!!!!!!!!
Her and her canvas page are an absolute nightmare. Crazy amount of homework. her instructions alone take a day to read and comprehend. She is so complicated. I would tell avoid, but unfortunately shes the only one that teaches this course.
Professor Statt is a great teacher and one of the best I've ever had at UMD. Before I took her class, I went to this website and saw all the negative reviews and was nervous. But she was a great teacher and explained the content very well. Her tests aren't that bad. If you pay attention and take notes you are guaranteed a good grade.
I could right up a book on how awful this professor is. Absolutely ruthless. She could not care less to see you fail. She gives too much homework and is doesnt know how to properly explain concepts. I am in shock as to how she is still Allowed to teach.
Professor statt is the worst professor I have ever taken in my 4 years of college. Have a question and post it in the "wrong forum" she will take the time to tell you, "this is the wrong forum ask it somewhere else", instead of just answering the question. She gives off an intimidating look, no one in the class bothers to ask her questions.
Hours upon hours of homework assigned weekly. The most unlikable professor I have had during my college career. Unfortunately, there is not another professor that teaches this class.
Dr. Statt is not a terrible professor for statistics. She can seem very intimidating in all honesty, but does explain and present the material well. There is A LOT of work for this class, though it does prepare you well for exams. Not my first choice for a professor, but not bad and not hard to do well in her classes.
Honestly, probably would of failed this class if I had not took AP stats in HS. She is the worst professor and makes you learn the material before you attend class. This is why her HW takes HOURS. The class is based of lots of assignments and 2 exams with 2 group "projects." She can be rude and expects everyone to live, eat and breathe statistics.
I swear this lady will be updating her canvas with new assignments everyday 24/7. This was possibly one of the hardest classes I have ever took because of her teaching style. She expects you to learn the material before class. She assigns quizzes, individual and team assignments online. There is a midterm and final (not that hard)
Dont even bother looking at her canvas page, it is a mess and very hard to navigate. Taught myself everything, since she expects you to with a minimum of 3 quizzes due before class (not including assignments) about new material. Though, her exams are not hard. She makes everything more complicated then it should be.
Statt was an awful, unprepared mess. This class should not be this difficult. Her canvas is a literal mess. She is not understanding. had to drop this class, was on track for failing even tho I put full effort.
She is possibly the worst professor I have taken in my college career. Don't even bother looking at her canvas, it is a MESS with an OVERLOAD of material. She makes it way harder than it should be and does not even compare to to DS301. She also "shuts down" her canvas page before exams and does not return notes you use on both exams. She is rude
Professor Statt is not as bad as people make her out to be, however there is still a lot more work in this class than most classes at UMD and this should be accounted for. She is helpful and willing to make extra time for student needs but you need to be prepared.
Easy class, TERRIBLE instructor! If someone else more caring teaches this class, it wouldve been an exciting course to take. floods us with homework and quizzes. She doesnt care if you spent hours on quizzes and got a good grade, if you forget to upload proof of how you got your answers, youre screwed. Shell give you a 0 without hesitation.
Professor Statt is a great professor. I went out of the country for two weeks at the beginning of the semester and I was still able to catch up. The material is difficult however, she gives you all the information you need for the exams. If you pay attention to the lectures and take good notes on the examples she gives, you will pass.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR !! It was the hardest class in my entire study years just because of how it was set up. Lots and lots of work, overloaded assignments, lots of homework. She does not care if you are failing. You get no points if some of your calculations are missing. If possible opt for another professor even if its off campus.
Do yourself a favor and listen to these reviews, as I should have. She makes this class way harder then it should be for no reason. She is absolutely rude for no reason and has a horrible teaching style
After struggling through DS301 at UMD I was somewhat worried about 302, but Statt made this class a lot easier than I expected. She's very understanding, her homework teaches you a lot, her tests are not overwhelming (she drops your worst of 3). Put time into the class and you will succeed! I don't understand the low score on here at all!
Her online course is amazing! To help students understand the software and concepts, she has "quizzes" (unlimited attempts/time). She also has slide decks that break down the material from the textbook. For exams, she literally gives a "Exam Sheet" that informs you very explicitly what is on the exam. This class/material isn't for slackers.
Honestly, this class is not hard, it is just tedious. There are 2 or 3 homework assignments per week and even homework on exam weeks. The Canvas layout is really cluttered and it makes this as an online class really annoying and frustrating. With that being said, the exams are easy to do well on. How well you understand hw is how well you will do.
Based upon her rate my professor score you would think she was an awful teacher. In my opinion this could not be further from the truth. Professor Statt gives you unlimited attempts at almost every assignment and provides video examples of how to do many of the problems. The work load is excessive at times, but each assignment helps you to prepare.
Terribly unorganized professor who loads you up on busy work and assignments that take hours to complete. Basically end up teaching yourself through the assignments before she skims the concept in class. Ridiculous deadlines and an unbelievable course load. Expects so much work, time, and effort for the little she puts into teaching them.
This class is actually easy but she gives way too many assignments to be done every week and her instructions are all over the place. She makes it difficult on purpose. She needs to change the way her class is set up, it's ridiculous!
She is a nice lady but There is definitely tons of work and many due dates in one week. The class is doable, no doubt about it. It is possible to get an A, you really really need to work for it and put time in. Sometimes instructions are unclear. She is very specific about your notes for exams so make sure to read every little instruction you can.
Dr. Statt not only knows her stuff, but she knows how to TEACH; something I have found is not common. There is A LOT of homework but it really helps you to understand the material. As long as you stay focused and put the time in, you will do well.
This professor is one of the worst I've had at U of M Dearborn. Completely unorganized, her instructions are next to impossible to understand, an overload of assignments (both individual and with your homework group) and her lectures are hard to understand because of her accent and because she speaks so quickly. Do not take her.
This professor is horrible. Very hard to understand her and too much work has to be done. First exam determines your whole grade.
Professor Statt is very knowledgeable about the course content. Her delivery of said content, however, is lackluster. Homework assignments are important to understand the material that is going to be on the exams. Also, there are two statistical reports to do with a group that can be annoying but not super difficult.
The course load is very heavy - I had more homework in this class than I did in my three other classes combined. The LTMs are the best way to learn the material, make sure to take notes when doing them.
This professor truly is a narcissist if I've ever seen one. She must think that this is the only class that students take, as she gives an unbelievable amount of reading assignments and homework. I heard so many bad things about her before I took her, so my expectations were low to begin with, but she has certainly lived up to them and more
I am just starting the class, and it most likely would be a reasonable amount of work, but for some reason she made the canvas layout incredibly confusing. I have never seen a layout like what she has, and it is impossible to know where anything is at. It is like she wants to make the course as hard as possible.
Horrible teacher. She constantly gives homework and every assignment is long and confusing, it also doesn't help that she's horrible at teaching it and her canvas layout is atrocious. So glad I'm paying the University for this. They seriously need to fix their DS program. Absolutely do not take her. Professors like her ruin college.
Professor Statt is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I feel like she gets a bad reputation for no legitimate reason. I had zero problems with her teaching methods and she was always answered my questions. The course itself is a challenging with a high workload. It takes effort, but you will succeed if you have the right mindset.
The ratings are NOT LYING. The class is somewhat interesting, but she makes it difficult. There is a TON of work with little organization. She is a tough grader, and in the second half of the semester, things get very confusing. If you can avoid do it. Homework and study time is immense. She means well but is on some crazy power-trip.
Honestly, this class will only be tough for you if you don't actually take the time to apply yourself. Yes, there is a lot of homework at times, however, by doing the work you will be MORE than prepared for exams. She is not what these ratings make her out to be, she is super clear, helpful, and understanding and does a fantastic job teaching.
Great professor. Office hours are highly encouraged and she is more than willing to spend the time you need to understand topics. Follow along, do homework and show up to class and material is easy.
DS 302 is not bad. You must do all the homework; there is an extreme amount. Take notes when doing LTMS, and practice from the textbook. Her exams are very straightforward, especially if you did textbook practice problems. You must put effort into homework and follow her directions exactly. Not hard content. the first few weeks were the toughest.
Caution!! Take the class at your own risk! avoid this professor. The material is okay, but the way she presents it is terrible. Canvas setup is a nightmare! Directions took longer to find than the work itself. It's an endless maze with unnecessary links. Tons of never-ending homework! The class feels like a full-time job, 24/7, $0 pay.
If you have to take this class with her, do not take any other classes at the same time. Tons of time consuming hw w/ multiple attempts allowed. Does not effectively teach the material. She is disrespectful to students. Ask 1 question & you have more questions or she won't properly answer your question. Midterm will greatly affect your final grade.
Worst professor ever. She closes Canvas the day before the exam so you cannot study or review for the test. Her homework is unnecessarily long and you will not learn anything useful. She does not care for her students, and its the most exhausting professor to talk to and deal with. The worst part is that she is the only professor for this course.
Run as far as you can, lol
I'm pretty sure she is writing all of the 5-star reviews. There is not a single person I know or have spoken to that liked this professor. Worst professor ever.
Run for your lives.
Anyone who complains about Statt is either lazy or doesn't listen very well. She tells you everything, answers questions clearly, and tells you exactly what will be on exams. There is a lot of homework, but an 80% grants you full credit (and it's 24% of the grade!). She quite literally holds your hand so there is no reason not to get a good grade.
The worst professor in the school, and the only one available to teach many of the DS302 sections (shows this site has limited impact). Her lectures drag on, her canvas site is confusing, and somehow it is the student's fault. I can't understand how she is still the main instructor for a mandatory COB course but it's clear Ann Arbor is the focus.
Dr. Statt is the toughest professor I've encountered at this university. Her Canvas setup is incredibly confusing, and she assigns 30-question homework that feels like it wants to check your blood type before submission. She is by far one of the worst professors I've had, and I'm surprised she's allowed to teach.
Just straight up bad. I taught myself the material. Try to take it online to save yourself the lectures. The homework is excruciating with how many tabs I had open and having to use midesktop to use Minitab. Exams are brutal half the time I spent trying to figure out what she was asking from the question.
I survived
One of the most toughest professors I've ever faced here at the COB. Her homework in this class takes about three hours, so be ready to torture yourself. In addition, you have to use Minitab via midesktop which is honestly so excruciating given how bad the setup is and the amount of tabs you have to navigate.
This professor can be a handful, but staying organized and using tools like unstuck AI for study prep can really help. The workload is heavy, but if you engage with the material, you can succeed.
EVERYBODY ALRIGHT WITH THAT?
GARBAGE CLASS. AWFUL WORKLOAD. JUST A COMPLETE MISERABLE CLASS. YOU WILL REGRET TAKING HER CLASS! TRUST ME!!!
it's honestly easy online idk what everyone's talking ab in these reviews. I'm having 0 issues at all. 95% of the hw has unlimited attempts. Sure it can be a lot some weeks, but nothing that crazy at all. Still a month left of the semester but have a 96% rn. I think these reviews are a bit dramatic
