one of the best teachers in business
great teacher
The most helpful teacher at SFU always available for help and marks fairly
Very nice teacher, although could be more indepth in lectures
Very good in 251, needs to tighten the material in 319 up a bit
Although very helpful, she is very boring. A lot of students sleep and skip.
helpful yet moderate diffculty on midterms and finals
She was quite good
Very Good Professor! Not VERY easy but good prof. although boring in class
makes accounting more boring than it already is
Great prof, easy to understand
Very helpful teacher . She explains very clearly and the exams are fair.
Not as friendly as she appears, very arrogant.
the best prof I have ever had
Greatest teacher at SFU...very helpful.
I will rate her again after I had my midterm :P
Nice lady, relatively clear lectures.
not anything spectacular... class is dull..nice person though
hard course and quite competitive
She was a good teacher, but her test are hard and competitive, Class avg. 64%
She is great! Best prof I had at SFU
nice, can hand in your assignments even it's 2 weeks late. Not an easy course.
What she says, is what appears on exams. Fair marker and fair exams.
Best Accounting Prof at SFU. Very fair, clear, and helpful.
kinda boring
Superb teacher. Learned nothing in BUS254 but made it up in BUS319.
Awsome prof - Goes out of way to help you - Very interesting course
excellent prof at explaining.very clear and exams are very fair
Very Good Prof; Has good notes due to her expertise in this field
Very long exams! but not too difficult
Excellent Prof Ever
boring lectures...exams long and hard to finish
Very good prof, very helpful
Very clear and helpful. Exam was a bit hard, but not tricky.
Lectures are hard to stay awake in, but printed notes make up for it. Very helpful outside of lecture. Has clear knowledge what she's talking about.
Even though the course demands lots work, but the course itself is very easy and her exam are give away if you did all the assignments..

Tough course, don't miss lectures. Does not teach enough important stuff
Pretty easy course, if u don't get a B or above, I suggest you should change your majors
Great teacher, materials in this course are pretty easy but must study. I would love to take another course with her.
My favourite! I wish she'd teach the 400-level accounting courses too. The nicest, most personable prof I've had yet.
excellent prof (nice, helpful, knows what she is teaching)...hard midterm and final exam but you will be fine as long as u study HARD...absolutely loved this course...
Her exams cover a lot of knowledge she never teaches. Very tough and tricky teacher.Nice but not easy to get very good mark.Do not choose her courses, and choose another instructor(choose easier exams) but learn from her lecture.
must have multi-linear thinking to do the exam. the answers are not very direct. and the mnultiple choice are tricky
great teacher. easy to talk to and very good at making things clear.
Big Mac is a great Prof although talks abit slow. Make lots of examples out of MacDonald... all those subliminal messages..... must be sent by MacDonald.. Lots of work, tough exams ...
Excellent course, excellent prof!!!
Tough course, marterial is super HARD. But the exam is reasonable. Must spend a lot of time to study for midterm and final and you will get an A, like me. LOL
she's helpful
she is really clear and knows what she is talking about. the course is not easy but if u study then not a big problem. I got A+ in this course. the exams are reasonable and you really learn sth. nice prof, nice course.
Not bad. a really helpful instructor. She's very thoughtful.
anne is a GREAT prof!! so glad tht i took bus251 with her...but she gives hard exams!!! u have to know ur stuf to finish the exam in time^^
she is very helpful if you ask for her help. her teaching style is great, she knows her stuff well. her exams are hard, but just study thoroughly for them.
theory theory and theory. midterm was ok. final was DIFFICULT!
i like to take her bus319, but not available this summer. i like her lecture, cause her English is so clear, so beautiful, I just enjoyed listening to it.

friendly & helpful, knowledgeable, clear. Hard exams. Focus more on theory. If you like calculation, don't take it w/ her.
The best prof in SFU!! Clear note and fair exam!!!
She's really nice. Though she goes through the materials rather slow, she's clear on everything. When you ask her questions, she takes time and effort to answer you the best of her abilities.
I took her class a few semesters back. But after taking more courses with more profs, I just have to say that Anne is definitely one of the better profs out there. Very well prepared, motivated to teach, and just plain nice. Very clear at teaching her material. Awesome prof.
she is clear on everythin. So helpful if u wanna specialize in accountin
Great proffessor. Clarifies everything and makes difficult concepts simple to understand. Has a great working knowledge of the subjects and can add anecdotal information to make the course more interesting.
Its a shame that her class was scheduled at 8:30 am, otherwise I would have definitely attended more often. Her teaching style is quite effective and clear, however her lecture notes are available online, so sometimes it seemed a waste of time attending lectures. However, a good prof nonetheless.

An easy A! she's an excellent prof! the course is easy to comprehend as it's the introduction to accounting. Not bad at all!
accounting sucks like a giant sucking machine that is meant to suck. but anne is nice. no present value calculations...i still have no idea what that is
Very nice prof. Tough exams. She's clear but didn't feel I learned a lot from her. especially after taking with Alain Duncan for another acctg course, Anne's not as helpful.
Fabulous prof. Everything is explained clearly, very approachable and helpful during office hours. Knows the subject very well and very enthusiastic. Not hard course if you understand the underlying principles of accounting and can think and analyze. She expects this during her fair exams.
She is willing to give extra help when needed. Her notes are clear. She always gives you interesting and stimulating questions in the lectures though most of them are not related to the exams. Overall, a professional and nice prof I've ever met.
Very good prof. Good notes. What she says is going to be on the midterm is on the midterm! Sample midterm also very beneficial.
AWESOME prof! Incredibly clear, available for extra help, gave tons of practise questions (with answers!). best prof I've had so far at SFU!
This was the hardest course I have taken so far in SFU. Her exams were hard and lechures were boring. I have nothing else to say except...don't take this course unless you really NEED it and don't expect it to be an easy ride because it would just end up slapping you in the face.
this class is hard if you never had any accting exp. but she teaches very well. very clear and organized lectures. i failed the midterm but i managed to pull my mark up to a B. read the textbook, do all questions and expect a B or higher. very helpful. even available on sundays!
extremely boring lectures, the course is hard to concentrate in unless you actually like accounting. she is very helpful but the course is just****ty.
Very clear notes and lectures. Exams are challenging, so study hard!
Just done the exam! Anne = very clear, professional, nice! Just love the way she speaks, not too fast and clear! Exams are okay, hard in a way that itz too long! If therez more time, most questions can be figured out~ Anne is a preferred teacher! Strongly recommend to take her courses!
for everyone who thinks this course is hard, maybe try studying.. This course is easy as long as you understand the main concepts and have a bit of commonsense..
Exams are hard, focuses more on theory than journal entries on the final which was very stupid, watch out for that on the final. She's a very nice person and knows her stuff inside out but her exams are too hard.
A very good prof! However, midterms and exams are hard! Need to know the material from the inside-out. Highly recommended Prof!
Anne is a very nice professor. She is very clear in her lectures. Homework was marked on effort, and she helped by giving us hints for each of the homework questions. Her exams are quite long. Make sure you understand the theory because a lot of students don't do well on that part. I highly recommend her as a prof.
Anne is a very nice prof. Her lecture is both clear and pratical. You need to understand the material but not memorizing it. Strongly recommend to take her classes since she's willing to help anyone who really wanna know the material.
Fabulous Prof.! Excellent attitude towards students! Very clear Lec.and notes. Though the concept itself is not that interesting, she brings in lots of interesting stories to make the material as interesting as possible. Totally reachable both in OF.Hour and through email plus very helpful! Highly recommend!
Anne is a very good prof. She's helpful and the lectures were clear. Her exams were a bit hard, but it's fair. It's not hard to get good grades as long as you do and understand the assignments and the sample exams.
The Simply Accounting project was actually fun & easy! Anne has many interesting stories to tell. Nice lady, but I felt that I didn't learn anything in the course. Exams are not too bad.
She is pretty hot.
she’s a great prof but classes were a bit dry I mean they are 2 hours long to begin with, so imagine sitting there listening to someone talk and talk about ACCOUNTING of all boring things..lol I would’ve liked the class to be more interactive...TAs are really bad so make sure that u have a good TA and if you don’t move to another TAs tutorial
Anne is one of the best professors I have had I had her as my TA which was even better, she's clear, tries to make the class relevant and interesting . Her exams aren't difficult at all, they're doable if you keep up with assignments & when she says pay special attention to soemthingt...it's going to be on the exam! Ane she dresses very well!
that was my first accounting class and i was lucky to have her as my prof. very clear, fair exam, but i was little bit hard sitting in a lecture room in the morning 8 30 am listening her lecture for 2 hrs lol, but good prof.
She is a very nice prof and her lecture and notes are very clear.
she is the best one at sfu! very clear, nice, and if you go to her office, she spends all the time until you understand. great notes, deep explanation. all good except its a 8 30 morning class:) but still worth.
Excellent, very experienced prof. She's extremely fair. If you work hard, even if you have no accounting background, you can do well. Having her as a TA is a bonus!
I didnt know that how she was good when i was taking 251 but now i realize that she was awesome good at that time compare to my 254 prof now. She was extremely good and helpful. if you go to see her in her office, she is even better. knows her stuff so much and very clear. I miss her now!! she is a fair prof.
A very good prof! Nicely explain lecture materials and good use of examples. The exams were hard though, especially her final. I didn't have enough time to finish.
Very nice instructor, very helpful. Had her for bus 319 which has been discontinued as a class at SFU, but I would take any class with her.
Good prof. Explains well. Final exam is easy but very LONG. 8:30am class so that sucks, hard to concentrate. Do not get Sara for a TA she is horrible. Do your readings and homework and you'll be fine. Stupid course content, but pretty good prof.
Took 319 with her as well. She will teach something in class very well but her exams are KILLER. The averages are always in the 50's to 60's range. She appears to be all nice and kind but when you write the midterm you will be shocked. Her finals are 10x worse than anything you will see in business.
She has very clear idea to accounting and teachs very well. Also ok with the exam, just time is tight. You should do as much as practice you can and focus on her notes and what she taught in class, then you will be ok in the exams.
prepared, excellent lecturer and she is so professional! but exams are too long & tough. Assignment Qs are not quite similar to that of the examss..
Excellent professor. The course itself is loaded with info. Midterm is easy, final is a bit tough. No surprises in exams.
A good prof! Very willing to help you if you go to her office hours or email her. The course is quite hard so study hard. She expects alot on theory answer portion but if you know your stuff it will be okay. The notes are not too detailed but she goes thru the notes with the class and use examples to explain. My TA Brian is nice !!
The prof was great, nice, helpful. Course was alittle hard, you need to study, not a couse you can wing. the final and midterm as almost identifical to pratice final and midterm, so study them. do not use wiley plus to study, useless but good pratice to see if you know the material. careful the mutiple choice is hard.
Absolutely awesome! One of my favarite profs at SFU. I've taken 3 acct. curses with her (rite, all the courses she tought, BUS251, 319, 420). Her lecture helped you a lot to understand the material. A lot easier when you read textbook after classes. This course is not that hard if you like numbers. BTW, the textbook is really clear and easy to read
Amazing prof. This class easily could have been boring but she made it interesting most of the time and bearable the rest. If I could get through this class without ever falling asleep she's doing a good job! Fairly tough class, work hard and you should do fine.
Great notes that condense everything you need to know from the textbook. Provides hints for all assignments, and gives out sample exams. Quick responses to emailed questions. Exams don't contain any surprises, but you have to know the content well, especially for the theory questions.
one of the easiest courses at SFU commerce.
awesome
She is by far the best professor in SFU. And financial accounting is probably one of the most important courses in Business department (If you can't do well in this course you will have alot of trouble in higher level BUS courses). SO be sure to take BUS251 with her
Great professor. Received my first on on her midterm. Simon Zhang was my TA, extremely helpful. Great class. If you have to take this course, Macdonald the way to go. Lectures are somewhat boring, but she tries her hardest to make it interesting
She is extremely clear, and easy to listen to, there is quite a lot of material, but neverthless, great course, i learned a lot, and im glad i took this course. exams are quite long.. but great teacher!
great instructor. easy to understand, available for help. I also had her as a TA and consider myself lucky.
She is very clear and easy to understand. Prepares her work in class well and organized. She was also my T.A for the class and she was very helpful both in tutorials and Offiec hours. If she wasn't so good... I would probably fall asleep because the content of the course is not the most interesting... she made more realistic and challenging.
Great Prof. Easily approachable for help along with being very friendly. To do good you must take wiley plus seriously and go to lectures and tutorials. Readings from the text are also important to compliment her great condensed notes. Also try questions from the chapters to practice your skills. Work hard and you will do good, and don't let the fir
Very clearly communicated lectures. Responds to emails very promptly. I would definitely say one of the best profs I have had at SFU
She is the best prof I had in SFU so far. Strongly Recommended. She has super clear voice. Midterms and Finals weren't tricky as long as you do exercises. Lectures are quite boring so try to sit in the front rows.
She is well organized, interested in the course, and a very good teacher.
Extremely clear and helpful prof. Midterm and final were very similar to textbook questions and the sample exams she gives out, but the final had a lot more theory than expected. Very well prepared and lectures were organized and on pace.
Don't take this class in the morning! That being said, Anne is probably one of the best profs SFU has (and she was voted in the top five by students). She is very clear, organized, friendly and caring towards her students. Textbook is SOO boring and chapters are huge so my advice is suck it up and do as much as you can bear. Anne is the best for251
THE best prof in SFU hands down, and it's not even close. She made otherwise deadly boring accounting kinda interesting. Everything is so clear and makes sense in her class.
She's one of the best profs I've had! She makes the concepts really easy to understand -> I leave the lecture hall knowing that I actually learned something (unlike some profs who are just downright confusing). An added bonus is that she has a really clear voice so that it makes her 8:30am classes more bearable. I would definitely recommend her!
Anne MacDonald is the reason why it's worth taking accounting at SFU. When you are doing your CA, CGA, or CMA program and you find your technical is strong and you know the Handbook well, when others are struggling, you can thank Anne.
anne really cares about her students. explains things very well and exams are extremely fair. i do not like acocunting, but anne made it survivable
TOUGH COURSE but good prof.Homeworks are fine but exams are soooo hard.
Interesting class, but the proff was horrible. I didn't like the way she taught. Her notes were wordy and unclear. Each lecture, she had AT LEAST 30 pages of notes. Also, she teaches at a very fast pace, making it hard for students to follow along.
Anne is a very good prof and really care about her students. If you are really intersted in accounting, take her course!!!BUT, DO NOT expect you can easily have a good grade. Her exams normally much harder than other 251 profs.
Decent prof but really boring class. It was my easiest class so I didn't pay may attention to it. Assignments don't prepare you at all for the final. I basically new nothin for the final.
Very approachable. Very helpful in her office hours and goes very far to make sure you understand the material. Notes are very detailed. There's A LOT of material to know in this course and the exams do cover a lot of it. No surprises on the exams. Use the study guides on Wiley to study if you get the concepts. Use the text for examples.
Extremely helpful. She genuinely cares about her students. She is incredibly knowledgeable and very clear. Her exams will not be difficult if you are prepared. There is no other prof like her. Don't take 251 if you don't have her!
a great prof that u can learn sth
very helpful prof and really cares about her students. she has a very clear voice yet too soft that can put me into sleep in 1 second. tutorials are essential if you want to achieve a good grade in this course since she just explains general ideas in lectures.
Good professor, notes are wordy, but once you read through them you have a full understanding. Do all the questions and understand them!! Doing the 'assessing the recall' questions will enable you to do well on the theory part of exams that a lot of people have trouble with. Exams are like the sample exams, know literally everything!
How do u expect someone to listen in class 830 in the morning the recoded lectures were poor quality. Subject was extremely boring, exams are torture outta 150 marks 10-14 page exam felt like i was writing a long research paper her notes are horrible textbook was horrible i dun understand y she gives notes that are 20pages long. this class is hell
This professor has a vast vocabulary, to the point that her notes make another textbook in addition to the some 1000 page textbook. She is unorganized, wordy and most deadly of all, boring. If you have insomnia, attend her 8:30am class. She does not deserve the same high rating as Eldar Sehic, who uses no textbook but the whole course on overhead.
She is very helpful during her office hour, so please see her as often as you can. Organized notes, good for exam preparation. Midterms and final are not hard, but tedious. Overall she is a nice prof.
Very helpful and nice prof. Tutorials and lecutres were very boring but somewhat necessary to understanding the course. She answered emails very fast when asked questions and always explained very well. Very nice lady, but i fell asleep in lecture every time.
Nice professor. If you ask her questions she will answer you very clearly. However, she does need to improve in time management as lectures fall behind schedule. As well, her notes are too long. Notes are not supposed to look like another book. Her midterm and final are fair but lengthy, very lengthy.
Anne is a very nice and helpful prof. Lectures are pretty boring and tutorials were useless. She is very knowledgeable, but hard to keep interest at 8:30 in the morning. I only read the first 4 chapters of the text, then studied her notes, did the sample exams, and did the WileyPlus stuff. I found this good, and I walked away with an A-.
Anne is extremely helpful and patient. She is very clear in explaining, especially when you go see her in her office. The sample exams she gives out are very similar to her actual exams. Final was really lengthy. Written responses will either boost you or kill you. Be very familiar with the theories, interpretation, and financial statements!
She is one of the most dedicated professors I have had so far. She's not those type of professors where if you ask her questions, she'd give an answer similar to the textbook. She is so patient, and she clarifies accounting concepts. She's willing to offer help and I think that's the key to being successful in this course. I HIGHLY recommend her
Her auditing class is amazing. Yes material is dull but she explains concepts using cases rather than textbook. Only need to read certain chapters (just read the important ones) and all the cases and slides for exams. No memo on my mt. Wish she taught all my acct courses
Excellent Prof. Every lecture was extremely engaging. Basically everything Anne says makes everything much clearer. I would recommend bus 251 with her; moreover, she is very fair when it comes to midterms and Final exams. She will not test anything that she has not stated in class.
Make sure you pre-read before starting the class, the textbook is very lengthy although it's not as important. Didn't get to finish the midterm and barely finished the final and still walked out with an A. Just make sure go over the lecture recordings and notes if you want to do well on the theory questions.
she is a GPA killer!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took Bus 251 and 426 with her. She's THE reason why it's worth studying accounting at SFU. I regret not taking 420 with her.
She gives NEGATIVE marks on exams...Slow at going through lectures and then realizes her speed and rushes through the last bit - 2 slides may take an hour and then she would rush through the last 20-30 slides in the last hour
Anne is such a helpful professor. I regret making this rating so much later, but after taking two classes with her, she is one of the most helpful accounting professors at SFU. The courses itself is not easy, but Anne is able to make it very understandable for her students. I highly recommend her for accounting classes.
Very good prof. Explains the material crystal clear and provides us with various resources to ensure that we succeed in her class. Read the textbook prior to lecture, do the homework problems with effort and make use of the companion site and you will ace the course :)
Good prof, super helpful if you go to her office. Must do the homework to do well. She explains concepts well in lecture but doesn't actually go through technical stuff in class much, that's left to TA mainly. Exams are fair.
For those without an accounting background, prepare to work your ass off. Weekly assignments are very tedious and I found my TA and textbook to be more helpful than the morning lectures. Midterm and final were fair, but definitely not something that you can cram in a night (even if you do have an accounting background)
I really don't like accounting, but this course was even easier than Accounting 11 that I took in high school. And this prof's midterms and finals are very straight forward and simple. If you actually do the homework assigned it should be easy. Personally, I found the tutorials useless but you need to attend to get homework marks.
Great prof, great class. Work through all the problems, and do them again in order to do well on the midterm and final. Always available for help! Super nice. Good course!
Anne was very well organized. She explained the material clearly. In the beginning of the course, things get confusing because you learn about many different types of statements, but it all makes sense later on. The exams are fair- there is more writing and analysis to do than one would expect. Great prof over all.
Great prof. Well-spoken and perfectly paced. She explains the concepts fairly well. Attend lectures for clarification. Do her practice problems and the midterm and final shouldn't be too bad. A
Awesome prof, won't mind having her for a few more classes in the future. Teaches at the right pace, very thorough in explaining concepts. Midterm was fair, do your homework then you should do well. Super nice and helpful.
Excellent prof! Attending lecture is very helpful, and her power point slides makes understanding the material much easier. As long as you attend class and tutorials, and do the homework, it is easy to get a good mark on both the midterm and final exams.
Anne is a nice prof. This class isn't easy but if you do the homework and the additional online problems it won't be too bad.
She is one of my favourite profs! You can learn a lot from going to her lectures because her powerpoints are very relevant and she is very easy to understand. She is helpful during her office hours and she knows her materials well! Tutorial questions and readings help a lot. I would take all the classes she taught!
Explains things well, but not ENOUGH. Everything she says in lecture makes sense, and then you get to the homework or exams, and it's all stuff she barely skimmed over. She's also very unclear about what will appear on exams. Do NOT take this course unless it's required.
Shes a really helpful prof. Very fair in her marking scheme. Would definitely take another course with her in the future
very clear in lectures and very fair on exams. Anne does not talk fast but manages to cover a lot of material. (textbook was more than 900 pages long and she almost covered the whole thing!) it's not hard to get an A in her course if you study hard or have an accounting background.
Very clear, helpful and approachable esp in office hours. but the content is still difficult and she does tend to go thru material fast. LONGGG exams, collecting IDs took so much time. if u didn't take acct in high school, be prepared to work really hard.
Taking Accounting prior to this course is very beneficial. The final was an absolute joke. Don't take her word when preparing for the mid term or final, both have extensive amount of journal entries when she said there weren't any, or they would be marked easy. By far hardest course out of the 12 that I have taken.
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! The midterm is really simple, and the final will tear you apart. Ended up with a B though, so not too too bad.
GPA Killer!
Lecture are boring. For midterm and final practise her hw questions a lot. Midterm was fair.. final was very difficult.
She is amazing at pacing her lectures. She explains things well but the issue is that she focuses the lectures entirely on easy stuff. The homework and the exams pretty much have nothing to do with what she talks about in lecture. I hate her power points, they're impossible to follow. Her exams are fair BUT STUDY! You can never study enough.
This prof is amazing. I've learned many things from her in regards to accoungting in general. The textbook wasn't that necessary when studying for her exams but I think it's good to read it once after the lecture so that you can get the general concepts. The most important thing is to practice her exams more than three times at least.
Anne is a great professor! She's very enthusiastic about what she teaches, and she know's her material inside out. One of the best accounting professors you'll come across. Her midterm and final was pretty lengthy, a lot of people didn't finish in time. So I would definitely recommend timing yourself when doing assignment questions.
I really don't understand why does this prof have such a high rating, because her lectures are soooooooo boring, I have to browse 9gag every 20 min in class to keep myself awake. Does she explain material well? I don't think so. Although I got a decent grade, I would not recommend taking classes with her.
The class was kinda boring since I really hate accounting courses. But she made it as easy as possible for us. I really miss her class and will definitely take another class with her again.
Skipped a few of her lectures but most of the things on the final was mentioned in class so attend when you can. Tests were fair.
Classes were really boring and there is a lot of reading to be done every week. Homework questions can also be extremely ridiculous.
she actually speaks english out of all the profs out there and is clear. U will understand what shes trying to say 100% of the time although u can skip class and read her slides and still do well
She tries to make the content interesting and is very clear. The midterm was not super difficult however journal entries can be tricky. The final is very long and tiring. This is a course where you need to keep track of time during exams since they are very lengthy and you can run out of time if you get stuck on questions.
Anne is extremely clear with her lectures and explains all concepts extremely well. 251 is a heavy content course as even those with acct1112 need to study the material beyond chapter 23. You really need to spend time with the material , and understand what's going on. Her exams are extremely hard, the final is more difficult than the midterm.
First class I've had at SFU that was really hard. I finished with an A+, but I found both of her exams to be VERY long and difficult. The course content and her teaching in lectures is very clear but IMO it's a little boring. She was pretty helpful in office hours the one time I went, she's a quality teacher.
Read the textbook. Do the homework. Study her lecture slides. The exams are fair and consist of the things she covers during lecture. The midterm will be a clear indicator of how well you do on the final. Don't bomb the midterm because chances are, you'll end up bombing the course.
Anne is possibly one of the best profs that SFU has to offer. She is extremely knowledgeable with the course material and does whatever it takes to ensure that her students succeed in her class. You should definitely take a course with her if you have the opportunity!
Great professor. Fair exams- nothing unexpected. Lots of material to help you throughout the class. Lots of content so need to stay on top of material as it builds on itself.
Anne is very engaging and makes accounting interesting. One of the best profs I've had so far.
Wow! hardest class i have done by far! I am confused on how and why her rating is so high! This class is very hard, lots of readings, she says there is nothing unexpected and tricky but the final exam would say otherwise! The midterm was okay but the final was another story. She is a boring lecturer, her notes make absolutely no sense! avoid!
Anne is a fantastic prof. Her midterm is easy and there is a lot of time leftover for you to double check. Final was fair but requires quite a bit of thinking and she gives you a lot of time it feels like it should be a 2 hour exam. She is very helpful and her lectures are very useful for preparation for exams.
Anne's lectures are clear and professional. Assignments are crucial as many technical exam questions are taken directly from the assignments. Theory questions on exams are challenging, but if you have a good understanding of the material you'll do okay on theory. Use her practice midterm and final, they're very helpful!
She is a kind person; very approachable for help and questions. The midterm was fair and she provides practice prior to the midterm and final so you know what to expect. All in all good prof. Keep up with the work and understanding and you'll do fine.
Anne's lectures are clear and cover the essentials. Listen to when she mentions something would be good test material - it will be on an exam! Do the assigned homework, she bases much of the exams on the homework questions. If you need help, go see her, she's very helpful.
Anne is a really nice teacher. She is more than happy to help her students if you go to her office hours. Her exams are really long with the final exam mostly focusing on the theory of accounting. Overall, great teacher.
It was a pretty standard accounting class. She is a nice teacher and does a pretty good job, the material is just a bit inherently dry.
Awesome professor! She was super willing to help out and I actually learned a lot!
Be ready for long and heavy exams with very little time. A bunch of people didn't even get to finish the exam under 2 hours. If there was more time or less questions, I think a lot more people would have done well on her exams.
no just no.
Understand your financial statements and how journal entries affect them. If so, guaranteed A+
She is one of those profs that would be worth it to wait until her class is available Many people around me found BUS 251 a challenging course, but people who took this course with me taught by Anne, found her lecture great Although I had it was a 5-7 pm lecture followed by a 9-10 pm tutorial, I did not even miss a single one of them
Anne is an extremely professional and well-spoken lecturer. Her passion for accounting can be seen through her engaging lectures and clear explanations. BUS 251 can be a tough course for many people but she takes the time to slowly explain concepts if you get to know her. Highly recommend!
Exams are hard and there is barely any time to fully complete them. Pop quizzes but they are marked quite easy. Theory questions on exams are difficult. Lectures are dry and not necessary. Take your own notes!
There are few who very clear with what they teach. I always understood what she was teaching in class. There is no point in missing class, firstly you've paid a lot to be there, and when you have someone teaching who has worked for the largest accounting firms (BIG 4), you HAVE to be there. Her office hours are helpful. Gotta work hard for final.
Stopped going to lectures less than halfway through the semester and did well on the midterm and although they're not marked yet, I feel like I did just fine on the final. The textbook is helpful for practice questions/general clarification. PRACTICE as much as you can as this will really be what helps you on the exams. Seriously, just practice.
her lecture is really useful and her test is not that hard.
Just seems like she doesn't care about being a fair marker. I've heard of numerous cases where students didn't get the marks they deserved. Overall unapprochable and her lecture slides are useless for studying. Took her last year and speaking on behalf of what I'm hearing from her this year - she seems to have gotten worse?
Grades based on her imagination.
The class is meh, I mean it is accounting it's going to be pretty similar across all teachers. Coming to class really isn't all that neccesary because there is so much content to learn, most of that learning comes from the book, not the class. Also the final was extremely long, I mean at least 60% of the class was still there till the end.
Very nice person, relatively boring teacher, and a wild marker. You can follow the criteria until the cows come home and still end up with a C on an assignment. Luckily the class content itself was pretty easy.
very unapproachable.
her lectures are so boring! She is the most boring professor I've ever had and her slides and messy and unorganized. Homework assignments take hours even if you don 't put full effort into them. A pointless class that has just done nothing but make my stress and anxiety skyrocket.
Prof was really boring and basically just read off the slides
Attends every lecture and relies on youtube videos to understand the material. Funny how 5 minutes videos explain so much better than her 2 hour lecture.
Anne is a sweet prof. However her lectures are very boring and not very helpful. I found the textbook and the tutorials to be closer related to the exam material.
I did not enjoy her class. I don't mean this out of disrespect but she is really boring and I fall asleep every lecture. It's hard when it's a two-hour lecture with no break. The midterm was hard and it is really hard to keep up with the homework as they take hours to do. She is a nice lady, just a little boring when she lectures.
So much homework! Shes nice but her lectures are boring. Accessible for help but midterms and exams are hard. Its hard to stay awake in her class. I found her homework and class not related. Tutorials are more helpful than the lecture, so make sure you go to those!
She gives a lot of challenging homework, her exams are unfair. She also laughed at one of my group member during office hour because she didn't do well on the midterm. Avoid.
bad lectures, bad course.
I've taken accounting courses in high school and this class had less homework. Anne is a good lecturer and is very clear. 251 is a difficult if you know nothing about accounting, but I think Anne makes it relatively easier compared to other profs. Would recommend!
I didn't take accounting in high school so I was worried about taking it in university but it actually wasn't too bad! It's a dry topic so lectures often reflected that but Anne and my TA was always open for help and feedback! The homework was only for completion so I just did as much as I could and then reviewed the textbook answers and I got an A
Her lectures are really boring, but she does go into more depth than the textbook. Exams are a huge time crunch and a lot of people aren't able to finish in time. I would recommend going to tutorials and making sure to keep up with the homework. Even though there is a lot, it's really important to get familiar or else you won't finish the exam. GL
Anne is a fine prof. Nothing special nothing to bad. She teaches a subject that is pretty bland and doesn't do much to make it not that way but there is only so much you can do. Tutorials make or break your experience in this class. Hilton was a great TA for me. She was kind with grading and reasonable during the pandemic.
Teaches BUS 251 from a 70% theoretical - 30% technical stand-point that will be more applicable to most students (who need to understand financial statements and documents) taking the course than other professors who teach this course from the perspective of upcoming accountants who will produce financial statements. Explains concepts well.
She is super nice and very organized. Lectures are nice, she just goes over what the readings said but answers more questions. She makes the material fun and light. As for quizzes, they're pretty straight forward, nothing that the readings or lectures don't cover. Overall, I would definitely take a course of hers again.
Synchronous/Asynchronus lectures were pretty dry. Realized after the first quiz that you don't need to attend/watch the lectures religously to succeed. Be very prepared for the quizzes/final and read the textbook/review the lecture videos for clarity if needed.
Anne is a great prof for Accounting! She explains concepts very clearly and is quick to answer questions that come up during class. The workload is average, consisting of a short pre-class quiz every week, and an assignment every week.
This is generally a hard course but Anne makes it much easier. As long as you put the work in you'll receive a good mark. There is no midterm instead she has 4 mini quizzes worth 6% each. This is way less stressful and better than a big test. Also she will take away your lowest mark on a quiz to help boost your grade
Anne was a fine prof. There is a chapter a week to read and be quizzed. She basically just goes over what was said in the textbook so paying attention during lectures is not necessary. But there is a participation component so you must attend. Overall nice woman.
She was very friendly and relaxed online. As an intro class there wasn't too much work to do and everything was pretty straightforward but the readings were very long. Chapter and multiple article readings each week.
Great Professor, Ive had her for 2 courses and both were great! she explains concepts in a very decent way and her exams were more than fair as nothing was out of the blue. Do go to office hours if you're struggling as she really does help and doesn't mind going over questions with you.
She is kind but her lectures can be very long and info packed. You're definitely gonna have to work for the grade you want.
Anne is awesome! Took her for both 201 and 251 and is such a good and kind professor. Truly cares about her students understanding what she is teaching as well as offering outside of class help. Would 100% recommend if you can sit through lectures.
Horrible prof, makes you memorize the textbook. The class was so dry can you imagine sitting in a 3-hour lecture learning about how businesses work. The Final is worded poorly also.
Really made accounting engaging, tests were fair, and all the homework was very helpful.
Best teacher I've ever had understood her class. Never took accounting before in highschool.
she seems nice, but i really did not enjoy her class. her lectures were so dry, making it really hard to stay focused. three hours of her just blabbering on and on about i dont even know.
Anne is really great. She doesn't mark on attendance or anything, but her lectures are very helpful. I went to all of them and really helped me get an A-. She's had a lot of experience teaching and it is clear as she is organized, professional and very knowledgable. I highly recommend her class!
A solid choice. Her marking seems pretty justified & she provides feedback on most assignments. She's also extremely caring, and approachable/talkative at office hours. Lectures were dry given their three-hour length, but she does drop hints at exam material during them. Attend office hours, you may be able to raise your mark if you can justify it.
absolutely dreaded having to take 251, but WOW Anne completely changed my mindset. An amazing prof who is experienced, fair, and straight to the point. Her lectures are the only ones I find engaging throughout, and she does a great job in making accounting interesting. I'm surprised to say that 251 is now my favorite course this semester.
Has many resources to help you prepare for midterm and final. Weekly quizzes and online assignments, occasional longer assignments, one group presentation, midterm, and final. Takes a lot of time outside of lecture just because of the amount of assignments and length of textbook readings.
Anne is easily one of the best profs--explains main concepts clearly, adding fascinating insight on real-world applications. So patient & kind in office hours and exams are VERY fair. Know theory&technical aspects + understand WHY info is useful to shareholders. Use wiley online questions and go to office hours--TAs & prof are so nice and helpful!!
She's a really good teacher and does a good job. Her lectures can be a bit dry, but also long as you keep up with the textbook, it's pretty easy to follow along
The prof was alright a little better than average. One thing that she did that I found odd was that she would post incomplete slides on canvas. This meant that you had to go through the lecture recordings which was a waste of my time. Very fair prof but didn't do anything extra to make this course memorable.
Just bad, like every other SFU professor, don't take.
Not very good,
Professor MacDonald was an amazing lecturer and was very engaging. There was lots of homework but it was good practice for the exams. She gave detailed outlines for homework and projects. Exams were super fair and she gave practice exams that were almost identical in format to the actual exams. This professor made accounting interesting.
I love Anne! She's actually hilarious, and as someone who hates accounting - her lectures were my fav last sem. Exams are definitely fair, the course just requires you to do some self-learning, especially if you haven't already taken the class before.
Accounting is hard but she gives us problem sets for exam practice to help us prepare. I would recommend doing the WileyPlus consistently and asking TAs questions in office hours if you have any because they will go more in depth. In lecture, Anne goes more in depth and gives real life examples. Spring 2023 was her last term at SFU.
