Very caring, wants students to succeed.
Nice and explains things clearly. Very fair.
Great person, wants to see success for all of her students
SO SO SO NICE!
One of the nicest teachers I've ever had. She covers all of the material you need to know for her tests. She is interested in her students, and encourages them to do well.
great prof. it is a great feeling to have someone who really cares about what she teaches and cares about her students. will and have taken her class again. rec. for someone willing to learn tolerance and have a good time. :)
shes a great teacher. tests are simple. i had her a 7 in the morning and shes a very bubbly person so it was sometimes overwhelming. but overall take her!
Good teacher but not a very nice person. Not very helpful. Expect to do alot of work
Very notes-oriented. Relatively easy teacher, but not spectacular at helping students' retention and understanding of material. The few videos we watched were probably the most interesting parts of the course. Overall ... very tolerable, nice lady.
very easy and very nice
This was an easy class. The tests aren't tough as long as you pay attention in class and take notes. The homework is minimal and easy. The hardest part of the course was setting up the Junior Achievement project and getting that done by the deadline, the paper with that project was easy though.
She's a very cool teacher and person overall. Very approachable and helpful. The class is all planned out before on the syllabus so it's easy to follow along. The class is not so much about social issues until the end though.
Took soc 103 online. Straight-forward work -- 16 chapters, basically 3 assignments per chapter (open book quiz, personal reflection, and discussion post), no midterm or final. Definitely recommended -- helpful instructor (easy to contact via email), easy assignments as long as you do them, I learned a lot!
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!
This teacher is beyond rude. She is not understanding. Do not take her class!
overall is not a good teacher
Took the class online. The assignments were pretty straight forward. The comments made by the teacher were kind of odd. She took several assignments down early which isn't fair...if you take her online, do you assignments early.
she takes role every day, and if you miss class or show up late she will use it against you when you ask for help. she is rude and treats you like you're stupid. don't take her class. also you have to do this project where you spend like 15 hours at an elementary school... it is not fun!
I took the class online, some of the questions didn't come straight from the book and required some brain activity. If you like to read and are interested then you should be fine. It's not an easy A but its possible.
I took her soc 101 online course. She is very detailed about how and what she would like you to submit for the course. Some quiz questions do not come straight from the text, so you have to understand the concepts and apply to the question. She's fair and responds to questions pretty quickly. It's not an easy A, but doable.
I don't know what was up with that person who said this wasn't a good class. This was one of the best classes I've had and one of the best professors. If you miss class, it's not counted against you, but you miss vital information. I highly recommend.
I have her for an online class this summer and she always responds to my emails. She sends us reminder emails. She has a quirky sense of humor. She sticks to the deadlines laid out in the calendar so be sure to do your work on time.
Her online Go class is wonderful. She is very organized and gives precise detail as to what is expected of you and when. She responds to emails promptly, and comes off as a very approachable person. I highly recommend her class.
Anne Marenco is a great teacher! She is really nice and cares about all her students! She really gives good lectures and reminds you of upcoming tests and assignments. Its pretty hard to fail her class since all her information is from her blackboard account and her lectures in class.
I took an online class. Tests are pretty easy, though some questions are pretty redundant. Answers e-mails fairly quickly.
Ms. Marenco was one of the best teachers I have ever had. I wanted to register for another one of her classes but they are full. She is so helpful and really cares about YOU. Make sure to read all of your textbook and study definitions. Also she doesn't accept late work and doesn't give extra credit.
Good Prof. Class is fairly easy if you do your work and put some effort in it. You do have to present assignments to the class and they take some thinking but that is what the class is based on. It's not hard though. You can stop by her office if you have questions and she will help. She offers a bit of extra credit but very easy points. Take her.
Makes class fun and is super friendly. Great lectures and prep for tests. Attendance DOES affect your grade.
ONLINE. Great teacher, very sweet and friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Extremely fast email responses. I took the 5 week online course and she spaces it out so it's not too much work, open book online tests, 5 discussion boards, and 10 super easy 1/2 page assignments. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
super easy if you show up!
I loved taking her online class. No textbook. All chapters where available online in PDF for. Always available to answer email promptly. Looking forward to take another one her classes.
ONLINE CLASS. Wonderful teacher, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. fast email responses. I took the 5 week online course and she spaces it out so it's not too much work, open book online tests, 5 discussion boards, and 10 super easy 1/2 page assignments. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Anne is a lot of fun and she keeps the class interesting. There are three presentations in the class. They are intimidating at first but by end of semester, it's easy. She's quick to respond and very helpful. Also lots of XC opportunities. If you show up and participate, you'll get an A.
I love this professor. She is very clear about what she expects, makes the material relevant and fun. She even allows an 8x10 page of notes (both sides) for exams. Show up, do the work and contribute during class and you will do well.
She is an amazing teacher. A little hard, but completely fair and clear about what she expects. Definitely recommend you take her SOCI statistics class!
she clearly outlines what you will be expected to do in her class. plenty of EC opportunities. Very friendly. just don't talk when she is talking or when someone else is (pet peeve of hers). She also lets you have a 8x11 piece of paper for your tests. Just do the work and there is no reason that you shouldn't get a good grade.
Amazing teacher. really fun and really caring. we didnt need a textbook and only had to buy a small book.
One of the best teachers! Her lectures are simple, straight-forward, and clear, and her tests are easy as well! I definitely enjoyed taking her class and would take her in the future!
She's not clear. I have had numerous professors and have never had to email someone so often to get a direct answer about what they expect. She is arbitrary and most of the work she wants you to do is a serious invasion of privacy.
I TOOK HER WINTER HYBRID CLASS AND IT WAS PRETTY SIMPLE, SOME WHAT OF A LOT OF WORK. TEST ARE PRETTY EASY AS LONG AS YOU DO YOUR READING, AND WATCH THE VIDEOS THAT SHE PROVIDES AND HER TEXTBOOK WAS ONLINE. I WOULD RECOMMEND HER ANYDAY!!!
easy to follow teacher. a lot of group work, sometimes 3 times in a day. took her during winter session and the last week was intense, other than that text is ONLINE and study her notes and do all hw and you will get an A
Lots of reading as in any sociology class. Watch her lectures if taking online class. Do homework early. Don't be late. REFLECT for reflection assignments. Fun class. Super easy A if you do the work and REFLECT in the written papers.
OMG I love her! I wish she was my teacher for every class! She's friendly and challenges us to think about the material. And the projects ad discussions are actually very fun and eye opening I learned plenty!!
Phenomenal! I took Mrs. Marenco's class in Spring 2012. She is passionate about sociology, and cares deeply about her students and their ability to comprehend the material. Her class was challenging but it was worth it! She had us discuss current events, and apply them to Sociology. We did not even have to buy a textbook. The best, take her!
Anne does everything she can to be clear and to make your life easier. She is always open to ways that she can help more. Anne will do everything that she can to help you. She will give you more time than any of your other professors if you need it. Every Professor needs to be like Anne Marenco.
I actually really enjoyed this class. I am horrible at math, but Anne made this class fun and interesting. If you do the homework and do well on the tests and project, you will do fine. If you frequently visit her office hours, she will be more lenient on your grade. She is extremely passionate about Sociology and her students. I recommend her!
Anne was by far the most organized online Professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking. She emails her class to remind them of upcoming due dates, and answers all emails the same day. Take her class!
She is the most organized Professor I have ever had. What she wants and expects is laid out clearly from the beginning of the course. Her assignments are not that hard but if you follow her requirements and guidelines, you'll get a great grade in her class. Oh, and she keeps up with grading over the semester.
Excellent teacher! I learned so much from this class. Watch her video lectures and take notes on them, and learn the key words from the FREE online textbook that she provides.
Grading is simple and the lowest test is dropped. Sometimes is not clear or she would go too fast on the lectures. Didn't expect to get a B in the class after failing the final. Is very helpful outside class and cares if you do.
Very interesting class. Seems overwhelming at first but gets easier as you go. Highly recommended
took over winter, syllabus was very intimidating but as the class went on it was very easy and she made sure to note her expectations for everything. A lot of things are due at specific times, but after the first week the class is easy and very informative
Really nice instructor with easy to follow syllabus. Actually cares how students are doing and will email personally to check up if you seem to fall behind. Definitely recommend for Soc majors or those with a casual interest. The class was short term with with (4) 2-page papers, (4) discussion topics, and one quiz each week. Do the work for an A.
Dr. Marenco was a caring, helpful and sweet professor. She does give out a lot of homework and Notes. The Notes really don't have anything to do with the exams, but the workbooks do- study the workbook. Did not use the text book, for she gave us tremendous homework packets everyweek. She does give A lot of extra credit and extra time for help.
AWESOME teacher. I am not a Sociology Major but I learned so much from her class and she made it interesting. She is a very organized teacher and her syllabus is so easy to follow. I took her online and she provided the chapters for you so you do not have to buy the book!!! A lot of reading but interesting material.
The best Sociology professor at COC. She loves what she does and she wants you to succeed. She gives extra credit for going to her office.
One of the best teachers I've had. She cares about the success of her students and makes herself easily available for help. She also made the class enjoyable and easy to understand with her humor and passion. I have nothing but praise to give to Anne. I highly recommend her class if you are looking for a stats class.
I took this class during Winter and in 5 weeks it was a piece of cake. Five tests, four Discussion Board posts and ten journal entries. The questions to the tests are in the chapters that you print out. Did not read really anything and did all of the work and did okay on tests, got a B.
One of the best and most caring professors I've taken at COC thus far. Grades the homework based on completion and overall an easy class if you take good notes, do the homework and get help when you need it. She gives lots of extra credit and also drops one exam whichever you get the lowest grade on. Oh and don't buy the textbook.
Nitpicks. Must follow her formatting or she'll mark you down a ton of points. Always follow the due dates and the times will never change, always keep the syllabus with you! Do as much reading as you can of the textbook, and email her if you have trouble. She won't round up grades, not even a half a percentage, what you get is what you get!
Taken over winter. Do the reading, take notes. Tests are open note/book, but if you try searching through the book for answers you will run out of time (hence the notes). 1 4-5 page paper, pretty straight forward and you have the prompt from day one. Discussion board participation is mandatory. Overall, I found it pretty easy.
All I can say is if you do assignments on time and read the text you will do well in this class. She is an excellent professor. I loved the class.
She's a really great professor. However, some of her assignments such as the group project or the professional development are bound to cause issues. I wish she'd understand that group projects don't work out because everyone has different schedules. The professional development should be removed for the same reason. There's no time for it!
Don't take it with her! She is nice but mainly passive-aggressive towards her students. I feel like I'm back in High school. She has too many assignments and omg her tests are freaking difficult. Make sure you read the textbook and complete all the assignments. And yes she has way TOO MANY ASSIGNMENTS FOR A GEN ED CLASS. Honestly, take someone else
I took Anne three times at COC. I got an A in every class: 137, 101, and 102. She really cares about students. She understands that life happens and you may need a day off from class at times. If you go to office hours and really try to succeed, I guarantee you that her classes are a piece of cake. No textbook, by the way.
Anne was great. She kept class interesting. We had such a variety in types of class activities. The article assignments were time-consuming but rewarding. She's a tough grader so when you did well you know you earned it. All the material was interesting, relevant, and applicable to life. Its a great elective to take for the IGETC. Anne is amazing.
Discussion board and 30 question timed quiz every week. Took over summer session and was easy but you have to keep up with work. One 4 page essay, and she gave 3 different options to write about. Utilize the extra credit opportunities
A great professor who cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Highly recommended.
She is honestly a dope ass professor, class is really laid back and fun. Do the onlinequizzes in advance; they are the only hw besides the group project at the end of the year and short essays. you can honestly knock them out in a week and have very little hw for the rest of the semester. Shes awesome, hilarious, and is one of the best teachers i
She is awesome. I've had her for several classes and Soci110 is really interesting and fun. It's the sociology side of social psychology.
Professor Marenco is an amazing online teacher. Do your work on time and study and you will most definitely pass.
She is a great professor, cares about her students, helpful, and organized. She gives a great lectures, and encourages students participation. Also, she is fair and she gives the students what they deserve. She has extra credit opportunities. I studied from the book, it is available on Canvas. I highly recommended her.
Took online class Ishort term over the summer) and I honestly thought it was going to be hard but for a sociology class it was pretty easy! easy grader and the quizes are easy. If you are looking for an easy short term class this is it!
Online class that was short term very easy and work was fair. Had occasional assignments here & there not to much & assigns discussion board posts. Frequent tests about every week but very easy based off the readings assigned. Gives you a pdf of the book so you don't have to buy it. Test are timed multiple choice of 30 ques. Very manageable class.
Everything is super easy to understand. She provides all materials needed. If you are confused you can ask her anything, no question is to dumb. I asked a few dumb ones and she was totally nice. She even sent me a message congratulating me on a good grade I got on a test. Super duper nice. 100% would take again.
She is so supportive and the class was really interesting. I took it in a hybrid format so half was online and half was in person. It was great to get a class done in half the time. I also took introduction to sociology in the other half of the semester with her.
Professor is such a sweetheart! She truly cares about her students. Her tests are based on reading! class is not impossible to pass; you have to put your effort too! She responds super quick to questions you have. There is a lot of reading but they are interesting readings. Overall, great teacher and she made the class enjoyable.
Professor Anne is such a kind hearted teacher. She truly cares about her students success. Students are free to ask questions, she responds very quickly. The workload was not too much and she is not a tough grader. As long as you do what is asked of you and read the syllabus, you will be fine.
Will not be taking her again, she has the weirdest due dates and times which gets confusing because no other professor does that and she sends out an announcement literally everyday which is extremely annoying. Wish I would have dropped. Have taken many online classes and hers is the worst.
I took her online summer class and I really enjoyed it. Everything was easy to understand and follow. Her deadlines and expectations were very clear. She'll comment if you're doing really well, which is super nice. As long as you have good time management skills and participate, you will pass.
What an absolute waste of my valuable neurons. She has designed a grading system made to give you the least amount of points possible. I have never seen any professor go to such lengths to make student's life harder. TAKE ANYONE ELSE.
This is the kind of professor that instead of inspiring you to succeed in your college life makes you seriously annoyed and upset all the time. She is rude and condencending. Has the absolute most ridiculous canvas deadlines. Really a bad experience.
This class was the worst for several reasons. 1. She is the worst nip picker ever. 2. Her extra credit is correcting her mistakes? Really??? Last time I checked professors need to be aware of their own errors, not students. 3. She makes you do a group essay in which YOU are in charge of everyone's writing if they do bad, you are graded as a whole
My grade dropped a whole letter grade because she makes you do a group essay project she grades as a whole. When I asked her how this made sense since I couldnt write everyone else in the the group's part and got a bad grade she said "proofread" and "TLC tutors are not always good". This is the most dreadful experience with a professor ever.
I took online sociology winter 2019. Workload was very manageable, there was 1 group project and 1 individual project (both are essays, but super easy if you have a good group). She has practice quizzes that have the same questions as the real test, very useful for studying. She messages you nice notes if you do well. Enjoyed this class a lot.
This is the best professor ever. She provides students with opportunities to learn real life skills, like working with others. I will have a job where I have to work with others and working with a group taught me some skills in how to deal with difficult students. I also love that she gives you opportunities to earn some extra credit.
I noticed that some students rated her as awful, but I wonder if they earned a bad grade? I have taken her for 101, 103, 102, 137, and 108. She is awesome, fair, always there for you--go to her office if you have any questions you didn't want to ask in class. Don't listen to the bitter students.
I would take another sociology professor that teaches this course. A research method class is pretty hard but this professor is plain rude and makes you feel intimidated by her. Many people like her and many don't if you can handle her rudeness and confusions than take her if not just pick another professor
Take anyone else! This professor is so unecessarily difficult! Her grading system is like a newly discovered mathematical code no one can decipher. The group essay thing is just an issue starter since everyone in the group is affected by eachother's writing and she grades very tough and confusing. Bye felicia!
Anne is such a sweetheart. I love her!!! Take advantage of every extra credit opportunity you can. If you dont understand something ask her. Schedule office hours or send her emails to clarify. This class seems difficult but her lectures are pretty clear and if you take it simultaneously with her 102 class its a lot easier in the long run
Soci102 is a lot of work, but Anne breaks it down to small pieces. Come to class, take notes, ask questions and you will do well. Grading is straight forward and transparent. You can do the project in a group or alone, so don't blame her on your choice of bad group members.
I took this class and it picked up fast. Right off the bat, there were many assignments, readings, and videos. Get ready to read your butt off. She recommends you study at least 18 hours a week.
I'm in the same 103 class as the last rater and this class is very typical for a 5 week class. We are doing the work of about three weeks each week. Perhaps that last person thought it was only five weeks of work and maybe they didn't know that for each 3 unit class you are expected to put in 6 hours outside class. Are they here to learn or what?
she really cares about students and is there for you this is a tough class, but keep up and do the work and you will be fine
This online course is a WHOLE semester crammed in 5 weeks, so get ready to read, take notes, and listen to lectures. It's honestly an easy class if you DO THE WORK! Communicate if you have any questions, she truly cares about her students and WILL clear up anything. Overall, really enjoyed it and recommend if you're looking to LEARN.
Oh my gosh! I recommend everyone to take Anne for Soc137. I am terrible with math and received a good grade, because she actually explains everything and doesn't move on if you don't get it! Don't be shy to ask questions. Only tough part was the final project.
PROFESSOR MARENCO IS VERY ATTENTIVE TO HER ONLINE CLASS. SHE ANSWERS QUESTIONS QUICKLY IDK HOW SHE SLEEPS! SHE WAS AN AMAZING TEACHER DEFINITELY WILL BE TAKING ANOTHER ONLINE CLASS WHEN TIME PERMITS. IT WAS A LOT OF READING BUT THATS BECAUSE THE CLASS WAS FROM OCTOBER-DECEMBER. VERY GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE !
This class was such a bummer to say the least. She gives so much HW it's insane and worse off her idea of a final extra credit is basically admitting how bad of a student you are and rate your own performance based on some weird rubric that makes you feel psychologically inferior. Also, her canvas deadlines are whack.
Anne is a great professor. If you take 207 short term online with her you will have a forum and a test every week, and u will need to read the free book to get the answers. 2 one page papers and a group paper which is quite frustrating to do online but if u have a good group it's easy bc you only have to write 1 page each. Pretty easy class.
What a great professor! I really enjoyed her class. We had a lot of group work and class discussions which made the class very fun and engaging. There are 3 exams and a quiz for every chapter. Very easy to pass, you just have to be on track with the reading. I would definitely take this class again.
I took this class online and was a short term. Went by fast but everything is perfectly organized. Her canvas outline is so clear it's hard to get lost, however if you feel like you don't understand something she WILL meet with you. All her material is so interesting and quick reads. This class requires a lot of self analyzing, which is refreshing!
I took her short term class & it's alot of chapter readings. The good side is that the chapter quizzes you do, are the same questions in the exams. You'll do your own individual project & one group project. She replies back very quickly if you have any questions or concerns. Gives multiple extra credit. As long as you do the work you'll pass.
I thought this class was okay. I am not the biggest fan of Soc, but, the professor made the session nice and easy for everyone. Content wise, the class wasn't for me, and I was not a fan of the online group project. But, at the end of the day she is a very nice and helpful lady, and you can't ask for much more from a professor than that.
I took this class over the summer. There is 5 discussion boards, 6 quizzes, 1 individual paper, & 1 group project. Discussion boards must be at least 6 sentences and must respond to 3 people. Quizzes are open note based on readings and some are on quizlet. Individual paper is 3-4 pages long. Easy A if you are on top of the work.
This teacher is passionate about teaching. She has her own textbooks which are so helpful to understand rather than a textbook. I got a b but i know i could've done better but that was my fault. She is a fair grader! I really wish there was more techers like her. As long as you make time to get your assignments done you will pass this class!
Practice quizzes are the answers to the exam. Exam is open book,50 questions to answer in 50 min. 8 discussion, 3 replies. 5 self-assessments, complete anytime before the course ends. Didn't watch videos but still got A on exams because I took the practice quizzes. fair amount of work. I tried squeezing everything here to help. Work is due at 10am
I took this class online. It was my first ever Sociology class and it was so great - I learned a lot and the I really liked the (free!) textbook. If I ever had any questions, the prof. responded quickly. Her class was well organized.
I don't know how people can badmouth this professor for what she has to cover in Soci102. It is a lot of work no matter who you take it with, if the professor does it right. I have friends who took her for this class before I did and they said they wee well prepared for when they transferred and had to take upper division class. Haters gotta hate:(
Professor Marenco was one of the best online professors I've had. She is a relatively easy grader, but if you don't understand a subject, she will deduct points and gives you the chance to correct it. She always gives great feedback, and her discussions are always interesting. There is a moderate amount of work, nothing too extensive and is doable.
This is the most difficult class I have ever taken. There are 50 questions on every quiz that only gives you 50 mins to answer it. The question is basically asking you if you have read EVERY WORD and NUMBER of DATA in the lectures (Lectures for one quiz are a lot too and videos). I hate this class.
She allows time to earn more points on discussions so do them early and make up the points if you need to. it was an 8-week course 1 group project fully online no zoom. I got lucky with my group, but had someone not been pulling their weight, it would've altered my perception of the class. for the love of god get your citations right
just reviewed her this is pt2 she literally allows you to use the textbook for the quizzes, it could not be any easier if you do the reading. even if you don't there was one unit where i totally forgot about the reading and still got a 50/50 because she gives you practice quizzes that have the same questions as the actual test it was a ztc class
No , I would recommend any one but this individual. The course itself was great but the teacher can really make or break a class experience.
She is flat out rude disrespectful and TRIES hard to intimidate you.. which flat out lost my respect .. any other professor than this person will save you so much toxic energy !
Professor Marenco is so compassionate about her work. She is always accessible to students through Zoom or email; feel free to ask her questions on anything. She lets you know the pace of the course on the first day and is honest. There was a lot of reading, but it only takes a significant amount of time if you make detailed notes. Amazing course!
Anne is such an amazing professor she really cares and is always around to help her students and give feedback I wish more professors were like her. Clear grading criterias and will always stop for people to understand before moving on. I have no negatives to say about her she is one of the most effective teachers i've had in 4 years of college.
Anne is awesome as a professor. She will make sure you understand something before moving on. If you are bad at math type things this stats class is a must. If you are a sociology major I recommend it as well to prepare for undergrad sociology stats. She gives normal homework assignments from the book that are easy to get done with a busy schedule.
The class itself is very easy and with a great professor it is a delightful class, but this individual on the other hand hand is all around very difficult on purpose. I would not recommend this teacher, unless you enjoy being pushed around and disrespected.
Dr. Marenco is a very active professor. That being said, she is very particular about certain things in her class especially citing properly in APA format. She was a very demanding teacher which is great if you're looking for rigor. However, if you're looking for a basic discussion, quiz, assignment class, this is NOT for you.
If you can, take Anne's courses! Took 2 classes w her my last semester at COC (Spring'24) & she was great. Incredible professor, genuinely cares about her students, down to Earth & keeps it real. No sugarcoating & tells you what you need to work on to be successful (which I really appreciated). She teaches you a lot that you can take w you in life.
Professor Marenco was difficult to work with. Her deadlines are always at 10 AM, very inconvenient. I could never seem to understand what she wanted from me because no matter how much effort I put into her class, points were always deducted. Aside from this, there is one 50 question test at the end of each week with a one hour time limit..
The class content is decent, but the professor can make or break the experience. While some found her engaging, others felt targeted and disrespected. Unstuck ai helped me prepare, but I'd only take this course if you can handle the professor's style.
Professor Marenco was pretty chill, I took her for the 5-week winter course (don't recommend doing that). Her feedback was valuable, however, you really have to pay attention to the readings. She gives a little bit of attitude here and there, but overall her class was straightforward and pretty simple. Just make sure to pay attention to the reads.
I took two different courses with Professor Marenco. She doesn't sugarcoat anything. From the first day of class she explains what she expects from you. She really cares and gives great feedback that is meant to prepare you for a higher education. She's amazing!!! Great person!!! Great professor. Would definitely take any other course she teaches
Took her Spring 2025 class, not really that difficult if you do the readings and the discussion boards and she's fair if you didn't get a perfect score on the discussion boards she lets you fix them for more points back. However, wouldn't recommend this class because of the group project and other project.
Takes job too seriously for an online summer course at a community college
I want to know that if you show that you care, she will show that she cares and she will do everything she can to help you. She spent an hour on zoom with me going over things that I didn't understand from the class content. I am going to take another class with her next semester. She cares more about her students than any professor I have ever had
