She is very helpful and explains class material clearly. I highly recommend her! She makes the learning experience fun :)
Anne-Marie is a supprisingly good teacher! She looks very young but teaches like she has been doing it for a while. She is helpful with papers, and makes english a little more fun.
The way she had the class that I took structured, the highest grade you could make in there was a B. I did OK in there and made a B. I would rather have made an A but it wasn't possible from the get-go. Nevertheless, I enjoyed her class and her creative presentations enforced our learning objectives very well.
Very RUDE teacher! She singles people out in class, acts like she is still IN college, and is a horrible teacher! DO NOT TAKE!!!!! All of my friends that have had her hated her! WARNING!
I've never seen any singling out. Dr. Thomas is professional, but she does not tolerate bad behavior. And she's a great teacher, even if she does grade a little hard.
Didn't like this class at all. I also think she's rude as well. I thought the material was presented poorly for a college class, and I think she is very unprofessional. Would not recommend her. I feel as if this was a waste of time...
Wow, looks like there are some sensitive folks out there. Dr. T uses humor in the class, especially to motivate the slackers. I sthat rude? I don't think so. She's definitely not your run of the mill teacher and she manages to make Am Lit I fun, which has some pretty boring stuff in it. Always entertaining!
People must not have a sense of humor nor an open mind. I had her for American Lit I and I'm taking her again for American Lit II. She's got a good sense of humor, gives out a ton of little quizzes and reading responses, easy to make an A if you just go to class. That's it. She's a down-to-earth teacher and a very nice woman, I would recommend!
I am currently in her English Comp 1 class. she is a great teacher and i think she makes it fun. she does have a good sense of humor and she is understanding! I WOULD recommed her.
She reminds me of Miranda, from Sex and the City, except with brown hair. She is nice and will accommodate you if you show up and do your essay papers. I think she is a science fiction author who may use a pen name. Easy class. Make sure to read her syllabus, everything you need to know about her class is on there!
Funny woman. Great teacher, but a bit hard. Her comments can be a little brutal, but I did get better. Recommended.
confident going into departmental exam
hot, lol but besides that very good teacher, passionate and smart. should have had and a, but slacked off, final group project is a joke, easy a, there are quizzes most every class, but easy ones on your assigned reading that is normally short, def take this class,
She is a wonderful teacher, very witty and funny, and down to the point. She helps as much as she can, and doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't get it right away. Overall a good teacher and a good class. Take her if you need a Lit class at ACC.
I very much enjoyed the class. She occasionally singles out students, but only when they're being distracting to her or the class. She wasn't EASY, but if I can get an A in her class, plenty of people should too. I'd bet any previous negative comments about her are from those students she singled out for being distracting. I liked her.
I wouldn't say her class was easy but she helped me become a stronger writer. She is very knowledgeable and is very willing to help you succeed.
I took her in 2009. She is awesome. If you read the books and do your work its an easy A. She explains everything and she makes you work in groups sometimes. It is fun because you learn the stuff better when you work with others. TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO PASS!!!
She gave the syllabus and did not deviate from it much. Overall was a great class, just be sure to read what is required as there are random quizzes (about 11). There were three papers and she grades them with pretty strict rules. She gives you a few grammatical mistakes on your paper before she makes you re-write it for her. A few students had to.
awesome
She was helpful but at times she expected for you to know all this stuf before hand. I would not take her again.
Dr. Thomas is great. She has a few "pop" quizzes over the readings and a few essays. If you're looking for a class that's super easy, this isn't it. She is extremely fair w/ her grading. She has lengthy commentary after essays and always gives you the grade you deserve. If you want to improve your writing skills, take her. She knows her stuff.
This was a pretty easy class for me. My whole world is about writing and reading great American authors. She gives commentary on the papers and is very encouraging. Make sure you spell check and proofread because if she finds too many mistakes, she will make you rewrite it. She has pop quizzes over the readings, but no tests.
This was a good class. There is a lot of reading and writing but if you do the work, you'll make an A. Class can be a bit boring as well but how interesting can Lit be? She's open to discussion.
Dr. Thomas gives really entertaining lectures, and the topics she chooses are interesting, but she's a really hard grader. Feedback was very helpful, though.
If there is a class that needs a leader to help them rebel against dictatorship and other form of herd-conformity thinking, Dr. Thomas is the best leader because she makes sure you think in her class rather than just a simple yes or no and help you plan your way towards victorious argument.
It is not easy to earn an A in Dr. Thomas' class, even if you consider yourself to be a good writer. I appreciate the Comp 2 class was not overloaded with readings or assignments. The stories were short and there was enough time to do assignments and revise papers. Flexible and fair, I was happy to earn a B in her class and pass the dept. exam.
Dr. Thomas was great! I enjoyed her class. If you want to learn how to write at the college level take her class. She gives you the grade you deserve. She knows who puts effort into their papers. I have taken her for engl 1301 & 1302 and made A's and I am a 37 year old with a GED.If you write like you text DO NOT take her class.
Favorite teacher I've had at ACC! She's witty and sarcastic. Attendance isn't required but you need to go because she gives random pop quizzes over the readings. You have to write 10 one-page reading responses throughout the semester, which are easy. Other than that you have 2 tests total and 1 group project. She's great, I definitely recommend!
Great class, great teacher. Very cute.
This class was awesome! My other English teachers did not compare to what this teacher taught me. Professor Thomas teaches you about Literature and she also teaches you about life. It was a very enriching course. I will miss seeing her beautiful face twice a week.
Dr. Thomas is a great professor with a lot of knowledge to bring to the table. She's extremely helpful and understanding. This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken (over half of my class was in it for the second time). Be polite, and respectful, participate in class discussions, turn your assignments in on time and you'll do alright.
Great teacher, very cute, and is willing to help you as much as you need it. It's very hard to fail that class, just read the stories she assigns and you will get B or A.
You definitely get what you give in this class. Prof Thomas gives you clear instructions and its up to you to follow them. She allows for paper revisions- DO THEM. I didn't, and got a B, but if I did, I would have gotten an A. Either way, she teaches you to write and think better. I'd recommend her to everyone. Great teacher and extremely fair.
Do not be relieved by the easiness rating. Her course was really easy in the sense of understanding the material, the hard part was writing the papers. But it's because I'm not much of a writer. Expect to write 6-9 paged well-written thorough papers. Emphasis on thorough. If that's not clear enough, here it is in all caps: >>>THOROUGH<<< GL,HF (:
Hands down my favorite ACC teacher. Ms Thomas is hugely knowledgable and her lectures are easily among the most engaging out of all my professors. You really feel like your learning something if you pay attention. The class itself is relatively easy so long as you keep up with the work she assigns and don't slack off too much.
I despise literature. However, this teacher made the class less excruciating than I anticipated. You write four 750-1000 word essays, each paper chosen from one of two stories . She is very fair; she writes corrections and notes and lets you revise and resubmit. Most important to include the 'elements' of fiction she assigns for each paper.
Dr. Thomas is really great if you're a good student. She works with you on your weaknesses and gives you a chance to improve the grade on each paper with a revision. DO THE READINGS! She discusses texts from the book and gives quizzes, so be prepared! Only take self-paced class if you're proficient in basic Eng. Wonderful experience in this class.
Due to my work schedule and being accepted to a 4 year institution I simply could not complete Dr. Thomas awesome sci-fi class. She was so cool and so nice and she could have really beaten me up with the first paper I turned into class. Thankfully she was very understanding and helped me fix the paper. I most likely would have gotten an A with work
Lectures are absorbing, but the work is not easy. The reading load is HEAVY.
I didn't see any Hon. Comp II reviews, so here we go: This course is difficult, so do not join if you aren't going to work for it. Dr. Thomas is a phenomenal Professor, and explains material clearly. I enjoyed in-class discussions very much. She's a tough grader, but fair. A lot of work, but the assignments are fun. RUTHLESSLY REVISE ESSAYS! :D
Professor Thomas has ups and downs. There is a lot of material to read and only a midterm and final exam each worth 35%. The rest are homework grades. If you don't read everything on the syllabus then you will fail the class. Also, her instructions are unclear sometimes. For an online course I would not recommend taking her.
One of the best you can get. She is a little tough on grading, but because she expects you to do your best. very motivational and inspirational as well. very cool and awesome prof. As long as you know how to research good sources and make good arguments, you'll pass. NEED "THEY SAY, I SAY" BOOK for Comp I... Readings out of it almost every week.
As a first time in a DL class, I didn't expect to learn as much as I did in Dr. Thomas' class. I was confused with some of the proceduresmaterial, but she answers email QUICK! She is a tough grader but gives you an option to rewrite all papers (total of 4, 750-1000 words). She really prepares you for the dept. exam! I'm glad I took her.
Dr. Thomas is definitely not your average Community College professor. That could be advantageous to you, or the opposite. The class I took was an honors course specializing on a narrow genre, so this may not apply to her other courses. But when you engage intellectually, with depth, you will get depth back; that cannot be said with other teachers.
Earning an A is almost impossible. Although, Professor Thomas is a very good instructor during class. I feel prepared for college writing and for the departmental exam. I tried my best all semester I even prepped my essays weeks before due date to allow time to edit myself. Not once did I earn an A on any of the papers. My best wasn't good enough
She was very nice, you will need to read if you want to pass the pop quizes! After every essay, (there was 4), you are allowed to revise it and turn it in and she will give you a new grade. Fun topics to write about. She will help you if you go to her.
I made a D in this class but it was because of myself. Dr. Thomas is one of the best teachers that I've had. She is understanding and you can tell she enjoys her job. I would recommend her to anyone!
A lot of essay writing, but she's very helpful when it comes to any issues you might have. And the topics she chooses are always super interesting.
Assignments and instructions are very vague. Normally, this is fine but she grades on specifics that aren't mentioned in the instructions. Be prepared to go overboard in order to cover all your basses.
I took this World Lit class in the summer session, so there was a LOT of reading, but the assignments were pretty reasonable, and Dr. Thomas is very organized. She's enthusiastic about the material, which made me enthusiastic. Great professor.
As a rising high school junior, I took this course online this summer. I was so impressed with how accessible Dr. Thomas was. Whenever I had questions, and believe me - I emailed her with a lot of questions, she got back to me quickly with excellent advice and gave me great direction on my assignments. If you follow her teaching, you'll succeed!
each essay is based on a specific element of fiction and you have to cite another critique from another author. she is a tough grader, but in the end, the departmental exam seemed easy. she really prepares you to analyze tough stories.
Excellent professor. She was a last minute switch, but so glad I got her. She is very engaging, extraordinarily accessible and helpful with feedback, prompt on grading. She is quite fair on grading. Be prepared by having your reading done, start your papers early and just do good work. She will grade very fairly depending on the effort you expend.
Her classes are fun and inspiring. She's really cool!
Dr. Thomas doesn't make things clear. She gives you a prompt for the papers but when asked for help she tells you to "refer to the prompt" instead of specifying the instructions given for the prompt. Struggled all the way to the end with little to no help from her whatsoever. Wouldn't recommend taking her.
Dr. Thomas is one of the most engaging professors that I have had. Her firm but kind personality coupled with excellent communication skills make her an amazing lecturer. When the readings seem daunting or inaccessible, she provides a level of clarity that not only explains the readings, but excite the students. Simply Incredible. Would take again.
I always enjoy professor Thomas' lectures. She's educated, engaging, and hilarious. She's clear in what she is looking for; there's no hidden message. She's very attentive to her students' concerns and is always open to questions. Basically, if you're looking to take a literature class and actually enjoy the content, look no further.
Great class to take. She is a great professor. This class isn't hard if you show up and do the reading. Interesting selections and great lectures. No hand holding, be an adult and you'll be treated as such. She's understanding about most things, so be honest and she'll work with you. There will be quizzes but nothing crazy. Great teacher. Do it.
A LOT OF READING! other than that the class was extremely easy, you have a pop quiz every week (usually every other class). This is how the semester went... Read go to class, take a quiz, discuss readings, and write essays. By the end of the semester, I had written 4 essays (4-5 pages) and 1 movie response (500 words). Very easy class.
Awesome professional with interesting lectures. Plenty of reading, but it is a Lit class. I felt like the readings were a great balance of on and off the beaten path. We balanced Twain with Hunter S. Thompson for example. Lectures are really great and insightful, interesting even in the A.M. Class is straight forward with no traps or guesswork.
Her lecture class is of my all-time favorites. I already miss them and wish I needed more English credits so I could take her again. Dr. Thomas is bright, engaging, insightful, accessible, funny, and fair. For me, her lectures felt like a serene, story-time bubble amidst chaotic life. Like walking out of a depravation tank, feeling rejuvenated.
Essays require a lot, you need to use outside sources and incorporate them, and she's a tough grader, but she could be tougher. She gives great feedback and will adamantly elaborate if you go to her office hours. She's a no BS professor so it's easy to be real with her. Take her class if you genuinely care about improving your skills as a writer.
Dr. Thomas is able to make some of history's most "boring" literature intriguing and make the more inherently beautiful pieces even more poignant and explosive. She teaches lit the way it should have been introduced to you in the first place, with humor and passion. Take her class (the Sci-Fi one if open) and learn how fun & relevant lit can be.
This class was relatively challenging. Professor's teaching style does alleviate some of the challenge though. Grading requirements are very low for the first few assignments and gradually increase as the class progresses. Unless you're writing is atrocious, you should be able to at least pass with good faith effort.
Amazing professor! Makes the class very enjoyable and interesting. There is a minimal amount of homework, and she focuses a lot of class time towards the essay subjects.
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT CHOOSING THIS PROFESSOR
Dr. Thomas rocked HONORS Apocalyptic Lit. My favorite class this semester! She knows a lot about this genre of literature and I loved being exposed to new styles of writing. The beauty of the honors program is you get a more intimate classroom setting with a passionate professor, and its an incredible opportunity! Take Honors, take this class!
An amazing teacher, full of the funniest one liners I have ever heard. I took her honors course on post-apocalypse works and it was an amazing class with fantastic books and short stories. She always helped me with papers and she's SO SMART, it's crazy. Also, the fact it was honors made it even better: honors is/has the best community at ACC.
Dr. Thomas's apocalyptic literature class is a uniquely challenging but rewarding class. Her curriculum is diverse and assembled with love. Take this class and you'll be given a survey of literature, philosophy, and pop culture. Dr. Thomas is areal gem and both of her Honors classes are worth the extra effort; you will become a better student.
Dr. Thomas was my favorite professor, hands down. She is the perfect combination of intelligent, funny, no-nonsense and approachable. She made topics I would normally find boring super interesting. She is thorough in making sure you understand assignments and always asks if you have questions. Anytime I was struggling, she was willing to help!
Dr. Thomas's Honors Apocalyptic Literature class was nothing short of AMAZING! I have never been academically pushed the way that this honors class pushed me; Dr. Thomas made me a better writer and a better student. This class was such a treat throughout my busy semester. I would take her for every English class if I could- thanks Dr. Thomas!
Dr. Thomas was a tough grader on papers, so do the revisions! She was kind, clear, and made her lectures interesting.
Dr. Thomas is one of the best professors at ACC. If you want to actually learn and enjoy the process, this is the professor for you. Her Honors Program literature class (American Apocalypse) was super interesting, fun, and thought-provoking-- and timely. :/ Every disaster scenario from the fiction we read seemed a little too possible/likely. Yikes
Dr. Thomas is hands down one of the best professors I have had. We are so lucky to have her as a professor at ACC. The Honors SciFi class is an inspirational and fun class, take it, you will not regret it. I looked forward to every lecture we had, and she had us laughing in every one. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
Pure passion for what she does and genuinely cares about her students success
Her website is organized in a way that is very hard to understand. She makes several different word documents per assignment which make it difficult to look at all the necessary material without getting confused or sidetracked.
I think I'm going to make an A in this class, but man, did I work for it! The feedback on essays really helped me to improve (my Comp 1 class was lame), and I feel prepared for the exam. I'm not sure what the person below is talking about--she uses pretty straightforward weekly modules. And if I ever had a question, she answered emails quickly.
Dr. Thomas is an excellent professor; she engages the class and makes the short stories interesting. She is a tough grader, but she always allows revisions. After taking her class, I became much more confident in my writing skills and learned to enjoy the writing process instead of dreading it. Dr. Thomas is by far my favorite professor at ACC.
Instructions for the papers are vague and provide little on pattern or process. If you have trouble understanding the story, it's your fault your not a genus. Forget about tutoring, she barely reads your paper or provides instruction, then marks most of it off when graded. This happened for all 3 papers. She marked off what she approved earlier?
Dr. Thomas provided an inspiring discussion, tying in moral questions on present issues, while perfectly tailoring it to examine the assigned reading. She provided clear instructions including a handful of prompt ideas for each paper, and was always available to provide guidance. I enjoyed every minute and recommend everyone take a class with her.
Dr. Thomas was easily my favorite teacher at ACC my first year. She's very dedicated to your writing and will help your writing exponentially. I came in as a very mediocre writer and quite frankly didn't enjoy writing, but as I went on with the class I found myself getting better which ultimately made writing more enjoyable. Would recommend!
Both her syllabus and assignment sheets are unnecessarily long and vague, and the "feedback" she leaves on papers is at best unhelpful and at worst demoralizing. Rather than teach new concepts herself, Dr. Thomas assigns group projects and expects students to introduce them, providing no followup whatsoever.
This was the 2nd literature course I took from Prof. Thomas, I only took the class because she taught it and she did not let me down. The lectures are intriguing & engaging, we discussed relevant topics that relate to the readings. NO EXAMS, just 3 papers that were not difficult as long as you read. Easy A if you read & fun class overall!
The absolute BEST professor I've EVER taken. She is truly passionate about her subject and about her students. Gives wonderful discussion based lectures, 1 group project, 3 papers & 1 research paper. Don't listen to her bullies, she will make you a better student & you won't regret taking her classes. I miss her classes already!
I am absolutely and irretrievably in love with Dr. Thomas. She has been sent down to earth to share her knowledge upon us weaklings and give us the best courses offered at ACC. If you don't like her, there's something wrong with you, not her. Take her class, work hard and go talk to her. You will have done yourself a favor.
I am so happy I took her class. I read some of the reviews before I signed up and I was nervous it would be difficult but she couldn't be more fun or nice. She's hilarious and she engages you in the discussion & makes it fun. If you do the assignments and show up to class, it couldn't be easier.
I signed up for her online summer class knowing it would be hard. But she was not fun at all, and she is an extremely difficult grader. I did not like her class nor her. She was way too harsh. I typically take my english classes in the summer but she was on a different level of harsh. DO NOT TAKE HER. THERE ARE BETTER PROFESSORS OUT THERE! z
Dr. Thomas is a GREAT professor. She gives great feedback on essays and allows revisions. She is super accessible outside of class and you can tell she really cares about her students. She is super funny and our assignments were very applicable to our lives. I would recommend everyone to take her!
I absolutely love Dr. Thomas! Her method of teaching is engaging and interesting. You will work, but you WILL learn! She is kind, but tough. If I wasn't already a Psych major I would be an English major after taking her class. I wish all professors were as wonderful as her. She is brilliant, funny, and a truly amazing human being.
Dr. Thomas was the best professor I've had at ACC! She's easy to talk to and very welcoming. Insightful, interesting, entertaining lectures. Her guidelines and expectations for assignments are clear which makes things a lot easier. Not only will you get an A, you will actually learn something from the assignments and the class in general. 100/100
To quote an English Comp II professor that I spoke to regarding Dr. Thomas: "I think she's probably the best teacher at this school." ACC is privileged to have someone of her caliber. When COVID-19 moved classes online halfway through the semester, she did a far better job preparing a curriculum than my other teachers had. Very grateful for her.
"Gives Good Feedback", "Respected", "Hilarious", are all also tags I would pick. Dr. Thomas is the rare combo of being a published, serious academic in her field + a fantastic teacher. She picks her material so well, teaches what the course requires, then takes it Next Level. She could be the star prof at an elite Liberal Arts college: lucky ACC!
Professor Thomas wants you to do well, and will go above and beyond to help you understand what you need to learn if you simply reach out to her. She is very responsive via email.
This class wasn't too difficult, but Dr. Thomas is a hard person to please. A few of my classmates agreed that her guidelines tended to be unclear/changing. You have to read the books assigned and be proficient in essay writing. Not a bad class, but definitely time-consuming.
Dr. Thomas is a fantastic teacher and is great at giving feedback and providing assistance to her students. Class discussions were the best part of my day, and the reading was always interesting and thought-provoking.
Dr. Thomas is an amazing teacher with a passion for literature. Show up to class, do the readings, and listen to her insight about the texts and you will do well in her class. I took Apocalpytic Literature through the honors program, and it was one of the best classes I've taken at ACC. I can't say enough good things about this teacher!!
Dr. Thomas isn't an "easy A" teacher. She will expect excellence, and what you get is a super fun class, where you actually hone the skill. She is responsive in email, do not be afraid to ask for help. She has a sense of humor; she's not stuffy. She will ask you to watch awesome movies as an assignment and truly offers a lot of extra credit. DO IT!
Dr. Thomas is one of the best teachers I've ever had in my academic career. She makes the lectures fun and I genuinely looked forward to her class every time. If you do the readings and come ready to discuss, you will have a great time in her class. It's not easy (esp during a pandemic), but she is VERY helpful should you need her.
Selects awesome readings to expand your worldview. Super funny and often sarcastic. Taking this prof WILL improve your writing skills. You will absolutely have to keep on the readings because she will pop quiz you on them. Navigated the shift to online during the pandemic super well. Give extra credit opportunities.
Professor Thomas is a really hands on and engaging teacher who really takes the time to give good feedback on papers and projects. We had 3 papers and one project to complete, all of which were not super demanding. They were interesting, but not hard, and grades were deserved. I would 100% recommend her, she's a very dedicated teacher
Read everything, she does a lot of pop quizzes. Class discussion is really funny and casual. PowerPoints. One big class project, one wakelet. (8)350 word reading responses due during semester. I was sick of writing by the end and after the 2 English classes prior but she's such a fun professor. Quick to respond to emails.
Dr. Thomas is hands down the best. Her lectures are engaging and funny. She fosters interesting conversations in class and her course material is excellent. Dr. Thomas asks a lot of her students but she also gives a lot in terms of guidance, and feedback. If you aspire to better writing, this class is essential. She is a gifted teacher.
Dr.Thomas has a great class. Lots of reading, but that is to be expected with any literature class. Had to buy a couple books for readings and there were 3 papers in the class. Discussion board posts each week. Definitely suggest this class!
Awful in every way. Do yourself a favor a steer clear of this professor. Unable, or at the very least unwilling, to work with students who have diverse needs. Do not recommend.
She pushes you, but she's kind. You get tons of feedback on your papers, and she lets you revise them for a higher grade. I was kind of scared going into the class, but I know I'm a much better writer now.
She is amazing. I transferred to a University but came back to take this class with her, I took her for Am. Lit. I, she is funny and sweet and she really cares about her students. She's one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. You will learn history and writing and how to interpret readings better. I did absolutely HATE the wakelet though.
You will be fine if you're confident in your writing. She wouldn't care how much effort you put into your paper, but she would care about how "well" you write.
It was a transformative class. I really didn't think I'd like the readings, but they turned out to be amazing. My favorite was the Wakelet project, which is different from a regular paper. Highly recommend.
Dr. Thomas is one of the best professors I've had at ACC. She tries her best to support every student in the best way possible and she is very understanding. The books we have to read are challenging but fun at the same time. TAKE HER CLASSES! They will change your perspective in every way.
Professor Thomas is great at giving feedback on assignments and going over what she expects from our writings. A couple of Quizzes on grammar and over stories we read, 4 Essay Papers each with a Source Analysis, Wakelet, and Reflection Exit Exam. You can easily pass this class if you show up and turn in your work on time.
I had her for World Literature and it was the highlight of my Tuesdays and Thursdays. She's extremely helpful if you show initiative and effort in your work. I've never had a question go unanswered from her (during or outside of class). She's incredibly understanding and genuinely cares about the material she teaches. I'm a HUGE Dr. Thomas fan!
It's good if you're bilingual because you don't have to do a lot of papers but you need to do tutoring or learning lab (pretty helpful) If the professor sees that you are struggling she talks and she can help you to get a good grade. She is really strict, submits homework on time, and doesn't be late because she makes quizzes at the start of class.
THIS PROFESSOR IS AMAZING! I highly recommend taking any course with Professor Thomas, she does a great job at outlining the course and giving feedback. Allows you to make corrections to papers for a better grade!
Good Professor just some tests can be hard.
Be prepared to do the readings before class as you will be discussing them. Professor Thomas also enjoys having pop quizzes on the reading material right a the beginning of class. Overall, I really enjoyed the reading, and I enjoyed the class discussions. She really likes to delve deep and get people to think about what they are reading.
Dr. Thomas was such an amazing professor! Be sure to read all the readings she assigns in class, because you will be quizzed. It's stated clearly in the syllabus, so you can't miss it. She's very thorough, helpful and very understanding and thoughtful! I literally want to apply to the honors program just so she can be my professor again.
I took Professor Thomas for two semesters (composition II and world literature). Her lectures are amazing! I learned so much and my writing and reading abilities improved drastically.
I took a 5 week expedited course: Dr. Thomas is very rude and lacks the will to help her students. She is rude in emails to her students and has very unclear instructions in the syllabus and assignments. Dr.Thomas is unhelpful and goes against her revision's own assignment rules. She lacks consistency and objectivity.
I ran into some trouble early on in this class, and Dr. Thomas not only gave me an extension, but she checked up on me afterwards. She answers emails super fast and I got more feedback on my papers than I've ever had in an English class before. In just five weeks, I feel like I'm a much better writer. I enjoyed a lot of the readings, too.
Dr. Thomas is good at what she does, yet the material and class overall is very challenging. Sometimes the "discussions" are simply lectures. I struggled to understand instructions for essays, and expectations are through the roof. Just know this is a commitment: it can be a good one, but Honors classes should be taken in moderation.
Professor Thomas is the kind of professor that inspires, challenges, and ultimately makes you better IF you're willing to put in the work. Her reading material selections for our class were SO good which made our class discussions interesting. Her class load definitely challenges, but in the end it's such a rewarding experience!
If you're thinking about taking Dr. Thomas's class, do it. This class allowed me to literally write 6 pages about zombies. I thought for sure I was going to do poorly in this class when I started, but I persevered and I ended up making an A. She's responsive to emails and she even helped me shape an essay which landed me a research opportunity!
I had many engaging class discussions within Dr. Thomas's class. Every module of this course was something that was interesting, and kept me thinking and talking about it with my peers in class, and outside of class! Would 100% recommend, one of the best professors i've had.
Her class is so engaging and interesting that it's rarely stressful. She has very easy-going policies and gives you many opportunities to get a good grade in the class. As long as you actually try, it can be a fun and easy A.
Dr. Thomas is an amazing professor. She really loves what she does, and it shows. She is the type of professor who inspires students and encourages them to try harder every time. The class is challenging, with lots of readings and class discussions. Overall, being in her class was an amazing experience, and all the hard work pays off in the end :)
