I really enjoyed Sister Papworth's class. I went into the class thinking it would be really difficult, but it wasn't because Sis. Papworth is a great teacher. Lectures are interesting, a fair amount of work, and clarity on everything she assigns. Just a nice lady and good teacher!
I love English and was really excited to take this class. But I hated it. I took this class early in the morning and she is not a morning person! She was never clear on assignments or dates. She is not organized and boring. But she is not too hard. Her tests are really easy. Attendence and punctuation is mandatory, eventhough she always comes late.
Sister Papworth is a great teacher! She is very kind, and always willing to help her students. Class was a lot of fun. Class assignment are moderately difficult, and you must do the reading if you want to do well in the class!
She is a pretty difficult teacher, but I don't think that you could learn writing from any better. Her coverage of literary analysis was fantastic. She had us do some authentic activities, instead of just writing a bunch of papers. Probably one of the three best English teachers on campus.
As a person, I loved Sister Papworth. She was an interesting and engaging professor who knows her subject and teaches it well. However, I felt that her 314 class had a truly unreasonable amount of homework. I am an English major and a hard worker and her class nearly did me in! She holds her students to a far higher standard than she holds herself.
She is a very good teacher. She knows what she is teaching very well, but she gives a lot of homework. Every night I had to read a lot. She expects a lot out of her students.
do readings and you'll do great. not alot of hw, and shes a sweetie.
The best professor you'll ever have. Consider yourself lucky if you are taught by this amazing woman. Her classes are the ones I miss the most.
Annoying voice, alright as a teacher, didn't really seem like she knew what she was teaching. Rarely answers emails or updates grades.
A nice person, but she does not understand what she is teaching. She has a very specific view of the writing/academic/English world as a whole, which goes completely contrary to what the actuality is. Also has a very unreasonable expectation of the students in her class, timewise and homeworkwise. I would not take another class from her.
SUPER HARD! NOT WORTH IT FOR A GENERAL REQUIREMENT AT ALL! I'm a straight A student, and I understood ALL the material, and I still barely pulled a B+. Very good at explaining the subject, but NOT good at explaining what she expects out of you.
Sister Papworth really knows her stuff. The class was very time-consuming but I learned so much. The best thing about her is that she is willing to give you all the help you need, I was in her office at least twice a week and she was always more than willing to help.

Her was definetly not easy but she was so helpful I was in her office at least twice a week. and she was always more than willing to help.
Sister Papworth is my favorite teacher. She gives you real-life experience that is extremely helpful.
alot of work to get an A. She trys her best to be a good teacher. always willing to help. Is late to class often, even though you better not be.
She was a really good teacher and taught me a lot. It is work, but worth it if you want to improve your writing skills.
Sis Papworth is the most helpful teacher I have ever had. She was willing to meet with me often to discuss my essays. In-class discussions are helpful and interesting. She does not overload with assignments.
Her advanced research and literary analysis class is very difficult and time-consuming, but I found it absolutely invaluable and I would do it all over again. I learned more about writing and editing in her class than in all my other upper-level English courses combined. I use these skills every time I write or grade a paper. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Huge improvements in my research skills, writing, and editing after taking this class. Sister Papworth is a great teacher who is always willing to help or reexplain something. She doesn't give a specific rubric on the papers; some people complained, but I thought it was brilliant. She's giving the chance to show what you've learned however you want
Sister Papworth is super but she never grades things. The written part of our midterms werent graded until the end of the semester and one of our papers took her 6 weeks to grade. Also her tests were ridiculous. Just a ton of qoutes linked to authors and when a text is 3000 words its almost impossible to match it with an author.
Advanced Editing is easier than her class. She never grades anything until the last week of school and expects everyone to walk away with a smile on their faces. Hate her, will never recommend to anyone.
She was a fantastic teacher, I am not a good writer and did horrible in high school but she's very clear and what she wants and she breaks her essays down into sections so you don't have to write it all at once and it's easier to edit. I recommend her if you want to do well in English 201.
She is amazing! Such a good teacher. You learn a ton.
Sister Papworth is a good teacher, but the workload for the class is huge. Be prepared for lots of homework. Each of her "reading notes" (the daily assignment) take 3-4 hours. We wrote 4 essays which were all do-able. I learned a lot but am so happy to have the class over with.
This was not fun. We didn't have a grade THE ENTIRE SEMESTER. She wants you to focus on the work and not the grade, so you fly blind except for the midterm and final where she holds an interview with you to ask you how you think you did. Most everything is group work. And the last few weeks of the semester we had THREE huge group projects at once.
It is finals week, and I still have not received grades for 3 HUGE papers and most of my assignments. Sister Papworth is nice, but has a huge problem with getting assignments graded in a reasonable amount of time. This foundations class has been a TON of work, she has ridiculous expectations of her students.
Sis. Papworth is a very good teacher, but this foundations class is SO HARD. I have spent hours and hours each class period (more than the required 3 hours per day) and only managed to scrape an A. She takes AGES to get back grades which is frustrating. HW each class period takes forever, and grades hard, but I have learned a lot.
Sister Papworth is very nice, but I honestly did not care for this class. I'm always been good in English, but after this semester I never want to take it again. There seemed to be a ton of busy work, and the directions always seemed a little unclear. It took me forever to do the assignments because I wasn't really sure what was actually wanted.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. Sister Papworth is a really nice lady but her class is so hard. Plan on tons of homework that isn't beneficial. IT'S ALL BUSY WORK. Plan on not getting any grades back until week 12 of the semester. All I can say is good luck. This class was awful.
Prof Papworth was by far my least favorite professor at BYU-Idaho before I transfered. I enjoyed some of the insights she shared, but gave a tremendous amount of homework and graded papers harshly. Avoid taking her if you can.
Sister Papworth is one of the best teachers I've had so far. She really cares about her students and she makes rhetoric exciting and interesting. One of the things that really blew me away is how she would remember our comments from previous classes and use them as examples in the following classes. To me, that showed that she truly cares about us.
She is not a good teacher at all. School has been out for a week and a half almost and my final paper is still not graded. She does not update her gradebook throughout the semester so you cannot see where you are at grade wise in the class. LOTS OF HOMEWORK AND PAPERS! Almost wish this class was 5 credits instead of 3 because of the amount of work!
If you didn't like Sister Papworth, it's because you're an idiot. She is a GREAT teacher, CLEARLY explains what she expects and shows you how to get there, is intelligent but still funny, and is super thoughtful and caring. People complaining on here are just mad because they got bad grades, because they are crap writers and deserve what they got.
Sister Papworth is a great person, but I would not recommend her as a teacher. She is a very tough grader, especially for a foundations class. She also isn't on top of putting in grades, which is really frustrating. English is usually my favorite class, but this was impossible to do well in. Don't take her if you want an "A"!
I am a slow learner, and struggle with grades, but taking Sis. Papworth was an excellent choice. In fact, her class was my favorite all semester, and I don't like English. Now, I am considering minoring in English. She applies what you learn to the real-world and adjusts her lectures according to what she finds the students are needing. Take her!!!
Sister Papworth is a great person and all, but do not take her class! The grade in the class is basically based on three papers. Sister Papworth also gets off topic a lot, so we ended up having two papers due the week of finals. Would not recommend.
Sister Papworth knows the technical writing industry. She is helpful and the class felt more like an internship because of the real-world experience assignments. I learned a ton and she is an awesome teacher.
She was okay. Tough on grading and it seemed as though only a few things really contributed to our overall grade. We had to do a final assignment (aside from the final paper) and then it wasn't even graded on time so we did it for nothing. I did like her one on one meetings that she did in place of a few class times
Sis. Papworth definitely makes you work for your grade. I didn't always like her teaching style or methods, but you'll definitely leave class with better writing and research skills.
Lectures feel like she prepared them on the drive to work/practiced ramblings in front of the mirror that morning. Does not give out rubrics. Wants to "see what you can do," then she grades you on your first attempt. Look up what "Memos, project plans, etc" look like online. She just expects that you know it. Techniques she teaches are decades old.
Okay the busy work I don't love, but I'd do it all over again because it's worth it. Her test are hard if you don't take good notes, so take good notes. However, you learn essential material for the literature field and she genuinely cares about her students.
Meh. She is a nice person, and I'm sure she is a good teacher for some, but not for me. She does not grade things/get them back to you in a timely manner (we waited a month for a test to be graded!), the homework is very repetitive and feels like busy work most of the time. She is usually accessible, though, which is the only reason this isn't a 1
Instead of reading quizzes, there are reading notes due for each class. It's sometimes annoying to do them, but most of the time it makes you think harder about the texts. I love Sister Papworth so much. If you have the opportunity to take 333 from her, you HAVE to. Nobody else knows as much as she does for Vic Lit.
Sister Papworth is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had at BYU-I. She is SO sweet, and cares so much about each lesson she teaches. She works so hard to provide us with a fun learning environment. The work is hard, but she provides amazing feedback so that you can succeed. She believes in her students. Take her! You won't regret it!
Sister Papworth is fantastic! She's professional, caring, motivating, and genuine. She chose projects and circumstances that would prepare us for the professional world. She negotiated certain conditions with us. She taught us how to be considerate as well as confident. Lots of homework but no busywork. Highly recommend!
Although I am not a big fan of writing, I truly enjoyed Sister Papworth's class. She does give a lot of homework but is very kind and willing to help her students succeed. If you don't mind working, I would highly recommend her class.
Sister Papworth is kind, but she treats us all like we are writing majors, which I didn't appreciate. She gave a lot of busy work, so If you like to write papers and read a lot of articles, go for it! If you don't, find a different teacher. I did fine in the class, but there was WAY to much homework. I had lots of other classes to worry about.
Lots of long readings to do and having you summarize the piece before class. Not too bad, but you're really graded on the reading score you give yourself. Read every word? 7/10. To get a 10, you have to go "above and beyond", highlighting, writing notes, etc. She says if you give yourself too high a score, you won't be worthy to go to the temple.
She once said that she believes there should be two hours of homework per class. She also will never give a 100% on an assignment because "that implies there is nothing to improve." But she did give around 40 points of extra credit throughout the semester. If you don't mind the homework, the class was fine and you can get an A. She's a good teacher
This teacher really showed me how to think in a way I have never thought before. She was really good at teaching us how to look at the big picture it was amazing. However, she grades way too hard and it is annoying.
She is not accessible outside of class. I asked for extra help and she never even answered. Also she does not put the grades in until like the last week of the semester it is really inconvenient and at the end there's nothing you can do about it. She is so caring but not my type.
She is a great teacher and is like the nicest. A fair amount of homework, but I can truly say for the first time in my life I learned how to write. I strongly recommend her if you want to learn and grow. Looking for an easy A probably not for you.
I loved Sister Papworth! She somehow was able to balance being real and being professional. I was able to learn so much in this class. I recommend taking hecka notes in class, do the reading, and set time aside to study for the exams. You will feel your brain expanding!
Sister Papworth is amazing! I learned so much in this class and it was one of my favorites! Her homework can be a bit much at times, it's really in depth, but you'll know your stuff for class. Participation and preparation are super important in this class, but it's always really fun, and you'll be an English scholar by the end of the semester. :)
Sister Papworth is amazing! I went into the semester already hating english, but Sister Papworth changed that. She is honest and completely fair. She requires you to work, but she gives you all of the skills and tricks necessary to succeed. She truly cares about her students and she is extremely proficient in teaching English. Overall great!
As a STEM major and a native french speaker, I don't look forward to english class but Papworth was super funny and relatable and made the coursework digestible. The textbook looks scary, but she's not too strict of a grader.
Sister Papworth is so intelligent and knows how to guide a conversation, not just follow an outline. She is up to date on pop culture and uses it a lot which makes learning really entertaining. 10/10 would recommend taking her class.
Sister Papworth is one of the most student-focused and supportive teachers I've ever had. When I faced a serious difficulty in my life, she offered not only concern but empathy and a willingness to assist in any way possible. And she meant it. Her class opened my eyes in so many ways. I loved learning from her, and would 100% take her class again!
If you are looking for an easy professor, Sister Walsh isnt for you. She made me a into better writer though. So, if you truly want to leave the semester as a better writer, shes the teacher for you!
She is an incredible Professor. She has high expectations and high love. She is willing to meet with you as much as you want during her office hours. She won't spoon-feed you but will give you every opportunity to succeed and learn and grow. She is phenomial.
This class was hard, but it was amazing. Sister Papworth really changed the way I view a lot of things because she applied what we were learning and reading about to current issues. I would take all her classes in a heartbeat. She really knows what she's doing! As long as you go to class and don't turn assignments in late, you'll be fine!
I hate English and so I was nervous to take this class. However, I really enjoyed the class. We wrote a total of 3 big (4-6 pages) papers in that class. There wasn't a whole lot of reading in the class and we didn't use our textbooks a whole lot. We mostly used them at the beginning and that was it.
I hate English classes. This being said, Professor Papworth is pretty cool. She is very nice and actually a good teacher. Though its a low bar, this is probably my favorite English class.
She is enjoyable to learn from. She had to cancel class a lot during the semester, which made assignments more difficult. She is a generous grader, but can come across as more intimidating than she intends. She has never given out a 100%, but as you can see she has given out many "A"s. High expectations, slow grades, but I'm glad I took her class.
She taught be a lot about writing and was very clear on what she was expecting from your work. She cancelled class a lot, but the classes have a lot of unity through group activities in class.
Sister Papworth does an excellent job of teaching students how to compose each essay. For every paper you are required to meet with her, the TA, or go to the writing lab before you can submit a final draft. Because you are required to do this, every student is going to get great feedback as they write. She's a great professor for beginning writing.
She is really open to communication online. As long as you pay attention in class and do the readings you will be able to understand the material. I'd study before taking any of the tests.
Had great advice and really helped to learn new ways of writing.
Sis. Papworth is a great teacher. She really cares about her students and is always up for a chat after class. The time in class is mainly spent discussing texts read outside of class, so the homework can be a little heavy if you don't stay ahead. As long as you do the reading and stay caught up, you should have no problem passing the class.
She's one of my favorite professors! She gives really good feedback and was the first professor to successfully explain Tone to me, an autistic person who struggles to understand tone outside the classroom as well. She's very fair and a tough grader but gives a lot of good feedback to improve.
Sister Papworth would be a horrible teacher for someone who wants to sail through college. Her class is pretty rigorous, but I learned more in this class than any other class I've taken pretty much ever. She is very thorough and cares about you actually "downloading" the information she's giving. Definitely recommend if you want to learn something.
Sister Papworth is my favorite professor. Her class was my hardest by far this semester but the most rewarding. I have never been the best writer and there were concepts I had never understood until she explained them to me. She is very open to communication online and gives excellent feedback on all submitted assignments.
Sister Papworth is so cool! She is super funny and makes the class engaging, even though there is a lot of homework. The class has a lot of work, but if you show up and do the homework you'll be fine. I recommend taking her
This class was unnecessarily hard. She didn't make a ton of sense some of the time. When you do essay conferences with her or the TA, you can't ask questions on format, which was hard for me because I had never done APA before. This class was frustrating because all assignments were due right before class but sometimes not explained till that day.
Very good professor, passionate and very knowledgeable. Only downside is grading is late or never happens. Can't keep track of progress, or even if you passed at the end of the semester. She is lovely though and knows so much.
I can't fully express how amazing Sister Papworth is. She is so caring and her lectures are so interesting. The hour-long class always goes by in the blink of an eye. There is a lot of reading in this class, which is to be expected if you are an English major, but the readings are so interesting.
Overall, this class and Sister Papworth were fine. The only issue that I came across was her lack of grading in a timely manner. I didn't receive grades until months after, which made it hard to improve on future papers and exams. It's also hard to know what your grade really is until the last day of the semester.
This class and Sister Papworth were fine. It was a very easy class, classes were all lectures and very boring. There was no feedback for any of the assignments and our essay from the beginning of the semester was not graded til the end of the semester, which made it hard to improve for the final essays or even know what my final grade was.
AMAZING professor. Yes, her ratings are comparatively lower. However, if you want to be an excellent writer, she is THE professor. She is an appropriate tough grader; there is no 100% on writing assignments. But if you show up and participate in class, do the homework, and apply the things in lectures. You'll have an A, and walk away with skills.
Lots of time spent reading and annotating. She does have really amazing lectures and shes a kind person, I wouldn't want her as a professor. I had some health issues this semester and had to go home and she wouldn't excuse my absence. If she is absent from class she would add more to our homework and make it a little more difficult.
You read a lot, but you should expect from an English class. She gives amazing, amazing lectures and I learned so so much. I would take her class over and over again. She wants you to succeed and has a lot of extra credit oppurtunities. I love that. I'm here to learn.
Her class was SO HARD! I barely understood what she was telling us half the time. Extremely strict, very hard to focus in her classes and grades very harshly on essays.
I really enjoyed her class. She knows so much about the content and it really shows. I learned a ton about different authors and the history to help understand context. My only complaint would be slow grading, and I never received a final grade for my last paper and test.
Sister Papworth is super knowledgable and wants to help you learn; she's a super tough grader, though, and assigns A TON of homework.
