Nice teacher, very clear, patient, quiet person...class is very boring though...
The class is boring but she is a good teacher. She is very thourogh w/ the info.
She was a very nice lady who knew who her information, but was very unclear teaching it. She could not explain anything.
She knows what she is talking about, but can't teach it to the class. She pretends like you are in kindergarten and never has control over the class. She is unclear and timid about everything. Try to avoid her class.
she teaches well to the class however the material just doesn't get understood sometimes. i think that she would be better if she wasn't so shy. as a person she's very nice.
Way too timid to teach a class...When she tries to be firm it is just funny she has no control over the class...she acts like she is scared to death to discipline anyone
Very, very nice and always willing to help but sometimes is oblivious to what is going on around her.
Very nice teacher but somewhat of a pushover, sometimes gets extremely intimidated by class. Especially when you have a bunch of smart-asses in the class. I actually felt bad for her a few times. The class is pretty easy though and you won't have any problems.
Very committed to helping everyone learn. Timid but really nice. Enjoyable class.
I liked this teacher very much. I thought she did a good job relaying information to the class. I did no homework all year and got a B very easily. Tests are moderate but she was a very easy grader.
Nice teacher, kinda quiet. Class is ok
She's a great person but really really shy. Wasn't really good at being put on the spot with practical questions. I stopped going to class about Chapter 3 and read the book and started doing better on the tests. Not a bad math class for people who hate math. (no offense to the people who like it)
Horrible teacher. I didnt learn a thing. It;s bretty bad when everyone who is takin the final has their hand up. She doesnt answer ?'s all she says is what do you think..and yea goood. BIG pushover...and shy. She doesnt really know what she is doing. I would never take her again..soooo bad

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! SHE DOES NOT TEACH VERY WELL. NO CONTROL OVER CLASS. DOSEN'T KNOW HOW EXPLAIN THINGS.
When you have to correct the teacher several time in one class period that's pretty screwed up...and she doesn't explain a problem after she screws it up.
very sweet, and nice teacher. A little shy but she goes slow and takes time to explain things and trys to answer everyones questions.
I don't like her teaching abilities at all. She is a very shy teacher and has no control over things. She doesnt explain things that great at all and a lot of people get lost in one of the easier Math classes. I would not take her again if i had the chance.
This class is ridiculous, she doesn't know what she is doing and her grad students don't speak English. She makes so many mistakes, and she spells the word rise, RIZE. We have complained to her about not learning anything in the class and she doesn't really respond in a useful way.
This lady can not teach at ALL!!!! when the students correct you 10 - 15 times a class period with mistakes in your simple math its not good...DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
This lady is the epitamy of all things horrible with teaching. I may be harsh but it asks to rate the professor so I give her an F minus. The final was absolutely rediculous and was nothing like the first 4 exams (which were terrible too). She doesnt know how to teach the material and cant spell or work problems out right. BOOOOO!!!!!
WORST MATH TEACHER EVER HAD! Very unhelpful. Made an appointment, so the time was good for her, and she rushed me through the whole 10 minutes she could give me! We had to tell her TA that she was supposed to help us. Final was nothing like the study guide. Do not take this professor.
Hard class.........
Any teacher who gives 1 pop quiz randomly in a class that meets three days a week, at 8 AM is dumb. She is not understanding, and I have never had a teacher who gave study guides to the class that consitently were worthless and unrelated to the test its self. I got 3 D's and and A on the tests, misssed nealry all pop quizes and still got a C.
Anne was so sweet and so nice all semester. A very good, helpful math teacher. She made sure everyone understood the material before she went on to new material.
worst techer ever...this class was ez but she made us basically teach ourselves...we always have to correct her and she doesnt understand what she is teaching!!!! DONT USE HER
I took the online version of this class and we only met two days a week to talk about the homework. She never knew what she was doing and was inconsistent with the format of the tests. If she said it was going to be all multiple choice, then it was going to be all show your work. If you can, take it with someone else.
To describe her in one word...DUMB! Hard class and the her TAs were just as bad except they did not speak english, she was not very good with helping and i ended up dropping her class and taking it next semester
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! she can't even figure out how to work the overheads or the mic or the computer and say umm ok umm ok umm ok all the time. good luck in knowing which section you are in during lecture. you go from ch 1 to ch 3 to ch 1 to ch 5 to ch 2 .... it like she opens and book and repeats whats on the page for a day.
Look, all of these people complaining are just upset that they actually had to study in a class. She's a good teacher with a pretty stacked curriculum that she has to move through at a quick pace. She notifies people many times about when and what the quizzes/tests are about, not her fault that ppl don't show up to an early class and have trouble
She was very helpful to me, although I had a lot of trouble following her lectures. Very willing to help outside of class. And yes, you MUST show up and pay attention to succeed in this class!
Dont get behind.
HORRIBLE!!!!!! Don't take this class with this teacher! her tests are stupid! I have been doing well on the labs and quizes, but the exams are HARD. the only reason why they are HARD is because the questions are not clear, and the answers are so close to one another that it is hard to figure out what the answer is! TA's dont speak english! SUCKS
She explains the material relatively well, but she's is kind of an airhead, but nonetheless, she's a very nice lady.
she is very helpful and may class a lot easier
Anne Schmidt is a really good teacher. She explains her lectures very clearly and is probably one of the nicest teachers ive ever had. She is willing to help students outside of class whenever possible.
She is a very nice teacher, very understanding. I went to class everyday- Fridays in lecture we typically got extra credit. However, she was uber hard to follow, not very prepared... She would have to try problems 2 and 3 times before she would get the right answer... I would def. say go to class.
She had no control over the class. She never seemed prepared. It was really quite annoying. I got the impression that she had never taught before by the way she handled herself. Her tests and labs were easy just do the homework.
Shes an ok teacher.. if you can find someone else to take this class with i would recommend to take it with someone else. She is nice, but a little to nice that it is annoying in class. She kind of treats you like you are in second grade! Tests arent to hard, final SUCKS!
She makes a lot of mistakes in class and is usually corrected by the students. It's hard to follow along with what she is saying. I've learned more from her German TA than I have from her.
i think she is probably one of the easiest teachers i have ever had. i think she explains most concepts very well, but sometimes she gets ahead of herself and doesn't even know what she's doing. but overall, if you want an easy A, take her.
Don't take this class with her! She makes A LOT of mistakes throughout the semester and she poorly teaches the class. She is also kind of ditzy. Gives extra credit on Fridays generally though, so towards the end of the semester go to class.
I dont understand how she is still teacher. she makes so many mistakes on her tests and is easily confused. the day of our final she had a review session and got 4 of her own problems wrong on the board and we had to correct her. she also got 10-11 answers wrong on her study guide she gave us for the final. horrible teacher and her TA's r the same.
horrible teacher get out of her class
Very sweet lady but easily makes mistakes, dont expect to learn everything from lecture, do the homework that helps a lot. if you don't you'll fail
All the folks bad mouthing the prof about how she gets answers wrong on the board should please let me know if this assertion is false - Most of you could not get the answers right in the exams or quizzes either. So what is your beef?
She is kind of "blond" and ditsy but she's really nice. As long as you actually do the homework you'll do fine. She's always willing to help and really understand the students. All the people dissing her are probably just mad because they wanted the A without any work.
Absolutely terrible teacher, her head was clearly not into teaching. She would constantly make mistakes in her teaching whether it be with her explanation, or in her work. She holds class a few times a week. And more than half of her class normally either gets a F or a D on tests. Unless you're up for teaching yourself for the most part, avoid her!
The course is not that difficult. Doing the homework and staying on task will def. help you! She explains is ditzy and giggly, I would NOT reccomend her, i had a tutor the entire semester and worked very hard to earn a B+. The final is IMPOSSIBLE.
She is hot but cannot teach too well.
Think ditzy like Jessica Simpson. Wasted precious time giggling and messing with her malfunctioning microphone when I had her. She goes through math problems too quickly. Have fun teaching yourselves!
Basically had to teach myself for this class. Mathzone practice problems really helped. Make sure you go to lecture and lab just because you'll probably have like 4 quizzes a week. The TA's that teach lab absolutely sucked, and she made a lot of mistakes on exams that we lost points for anyway. Not a good class
She can not teach well and puts more questions on the tests than can be answered in the allotted time.
Anne is a very very nice person. She lets you go to her office hrs or another sections class to make up a test. She is very willing to help and gives you multiple resources for help. USE THEM! Unless algebra comes easy to you will need outside help aside from lecture and lab(depending on your TA. Bc she doesn't explain the material very well.
Ugh when I think of this lady I think of a host of a child daytime TV show. Shes eerily over happy all the time and its creepy. I got an A in her class with no trouble but that was no thanks at all to her. By the time the course is finished she will have made an amount of errors equivalent to at least 25 problems (25 makes up one of her tests).
She is honestly a very bad professor. The T.A.'s in lab are more useful then going to the class. Very bad at explaining what she is doing, goes through problems too quickly. Tests are mediocre
This is possibly the worst teacher I have had at ISU. She makes so many mistakes and cannot teach any math for the life of her. Do not take this class. I have learned more by reading the book and going to lab than going to her terrible lectures. She reminds me of a valley girl way too bubbly to be taken seriously.
Very nice lady! She helped out a lot within the course of the semester. I really enjoyed this class.
Not the greatest teacher. I would not recommend her. She would make a lot of silly mistakes during class that made me wonder. She also CONSTANTLY played with her microphone during class that drove me nuts!! Her TA's aren't very helpful either. Oh and the final is ridiculous.
Schmidt is helpful in some aspects, but in the case of teaching, she is helpless. She is obsessed with "no talking" in her class, and she takes attendance at EVERY class (but in the end, if you're on the edge between an A and a B, she'll bump you to an A if you were in class). Her GA's were a LOT more helpful and knowledgeable than she is. It's ok.
Makes a lot of mistakes, & then makes stupid excuses for them.shes rly nervous in front of the lecture. Will stop teaching if she hears talking& keeps you until the last second of class I went into her office& felt like I was talking 2 a 5th grader.Class is kinda hard but hw is easy b/c u have several attempts Tests suck, TA impossible to understand
Her lectures seemed like they lasted forever! She takes attendance in every class but she'll round your grade up if you've missed less then 5 days. She also replaces your lowest exam grade with your final grade if it was higher then the lowest exam grade. The GA's were so much more help. Overall, the exams and final weren't too hard at all.
Do NOT take her class. Literally the worst teacher ever. Goes through problems fast, giggles and doesn't explain anything. She makes the tests as hard as she possibly can and will not recognize when she makes a mistake. The T.A's barely speak English and are no help. She lectures for 15 min each class about doing the 100 homework problems a night..
As the other reviews have said shes a terrible teacher, goes way too fast, and uses the hardest examples from all the chapters. This is college algebra. Not brain surgery. And she manages to ruin GPAs. If you have the option, take this at a junior college.
I was surprised to see a low review. She's a wonderful teacher. She goes through examples multiple times and puts them on the board. If you ask a question she will stop class and go over it until you understand. She never has us turn in homework from the book. I have barely opened it. There are only a few online assignments that are very easy.
She was great. She explains things really well if you have some math skill. I hardly payed attention during class but it is good to go considering you get all the notes you need and then don't need to look in the book and she also drops your lowest quiz grade if you don't miss more than 5 times. I am surprised she is rated so low. Easy Class.
Not that great of a teacher, but she is fair. She is also a very understandable lady and is always open to class opinion. Her tests and quizzes tend to be tough, but if you do the homeworks and try to understand the material you will do fine. DO all the mathzones and do not miss class, if you miss less than 5 your lowest quiz/test gets dropped.
Good at explaining topics and goes through examples and homework if you have questions. She is very willing to answer your questions. As long as you take notes, do the homework, and make an effort you should do fine. Her tests and quizzes tend to be harder than she leads them on to be.
She was terrible at one on ones. If you don't sit directly in front of her, she assumes you arn't trying. NEVER responds to emails. In class, she goes extremely slow and speaks to you like you've never taken a math class in your life. Nothing else but showung up matters. I like math and think I'm fairly good at it and I hated her as a teacher.
This teacher was horrible! i would never recommend her to anyone. Doesn't explain anything and is terrible at preparing you for tests. None of the homework or study guides help. DO NOT take her!
DONT TAKE!I usually study far in advance for my tests/quizzes but she tells you a day or two before that theres a quiz and assumes youll do fine. I learned everything from my TA and teaching myself from the book. DO NOT TAKE HER!
This teacher was awful, could not teach basic addition. Do not take if possible.
Avoid this teacher if you can... She gives easy work in lab but the exams are hard. She does not help you. Also, you get your lowest test score replaced with the final if you dont miss no more than 4 classes.
She's a very nice professor. However, she is not very good at teaching and exams are inconsistent with the homework. I would not recommend.
You do not really use the book unless you do the book work. She does not grade the work either. The lab for this class was not very helpful.
Teacher had a hard time controlling the classroom. Material was not presented very clearly.
She's extremely helpful. Most people don't do the homework so they say the class is hard.Do the homework and go to class and you'll be fine.
She is really nice but for some reason everyone hated her. shes kind of shy but she knows her stuff. I think people get confused because she knows it so well that she goes fast. Just do the homework and ask questions and you will be fine. EASY B. and an attainable A
She is a great teacher and an extremely nice person. She makes the material clear and makes even the most difficult topics very easy to understand.
Anne is nice, but this class is awful. The cumulative final is 25% of your grade.. and the rest of the exams pretty much make up what grade you'll receive in the class. Her exams are usually only 17 questions so missing one question is extremely brutal. She's the only 119 prof but avoid if possible....
Highly reccomend NOT taking this course with Anne. Labs are pointless to go to and are no help whatsoever. She rushes through all the material. It's one of those classes where you have to pretty much teach yourself.
You have to put in a lot more time than you should have to for this class. The professor is awkward and rushes through as much as she can. It takes weeks to get exam grades back.
I am good at math and I thought the tests were kind of unclear. You must pay attention and have some prior math knowledge. Labs are pointless but if you have a good lab teacher that lets you out early you're set. Not bad overall if you're good at math
DON'T TAKE HER. TAKE KEVIN BOYER!!!
One of the worst professors I've EVER had.
Terrible teacher and is terrible at explaining even in her office hours. I heard Kevin Boyer is a great teacher though but DO NOT take this class with Anne.
Anne Schmidt is the worst teacher I have encountered in my life. First she seems super nice when you meet her and like she''ll be easy on you and she smiles and giggles a lot. NO. She doesn''t even know math. We correct her frequently. One time she gave me -53 out of 100 points on a quiz and gave me a 48.. She can''t even do simple math
Anne is very kind and approachable. I thought she was fine at teaching the material; the rest of the class despised her. She does make mistakes throughout the lecture. There are online assignments, quizzes, and 5 tests. If you miss 4 or less classeslabs, Anne will replace your lowest test score with your final. I recommend a different professor.
I disagree with all the negatives review left for Anne. She is extremely nice and willing to help. It's just a matter of how much you are willing to apply yourself. It's true that it takes a LOT of effort to get an A in her class but if you go to class, stay on top of studying and homework, and go in for office hours, you will get good grades.
DO NOT TAKE. If you do all the homework go in all the time and ask for help you still won't get an A. I tried more then I shoul have in this class and still couldn't get an A. She makes class hard to understand. You will be be correcting her during the lecture as she is almost promised to miss something. She is a nice person but bad teacher
Worst professor in the history of mankind. Couldn't teach a 2nd grade class. Laugh is obnoxious. Tries to be funny and wastes time. You'll get 100's on all the quizzes and score a -11 on a test. Absolutely awful teacher.
Anne is the sweetest lady. Although she does make some with number while doing a problem, she explains how to do them very well. It is essential to take GOOD notes in this class, in order to study later. She does offer to help outside of class, but I never went. I love math and think she did a fantastic job teaching. Other teaches give more E.C.
GREAT TEACHER! I have her for the online MAT119 summer course and she's EXTREMELY accommodating and easy to get a hold of. Great at explaining things online or over skype if you need help! Simple online work and super sweet and helpful teacher!
I am not a strong math student but I was able to end with a B. I had to work hard for it but she was very willing to help and I was in tutoring for this class for the whole semester. People tend to give her bad reviews, but she is honestly very sweet and moves at a good pace. Lectures will ALWAYS last the whole 50 minutes.
I SUCK at math, was able to finish the class with a mid B. Tests are reasonable, labs are sort of required, you WILL stay in lecture for 50 minutes. She is not as bad as everyone says, shes very nice and cares. Notecard allowed for the final too!
Professor Schmidt is a great math Professor. Her lectures are long, but she is willing to help at her office hours and after class. Go to lab, and lecture and she will replace your lowest test score with your final exam. She was very nice when I went and talked with her.
She is honestly one of the most terrible teachers I have had in my life. She is really nice and really tries. But she does not explain the material well at all and moves very quickly. Would not recommend.
She is such a sweet person but I feel she moves pretty fast through material. She doesn't check for homework so I don't always feel the need to do it but you really should for the tests! I find math more on the easy side but I feel the key to her tests are doing the homework and memorizing the formulas.
Mediocre class. Easy if you know the stuff. If you don't, she doesn't teach it very well. Expects you to understand instead of explaining. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. IT IS FREE ON CONNECT. She fails to tell you this until everyone already bought it. Only homework is Connect, which is an easy A. She's also weird and laughs at herself/at nothing a lot
Your grade is based upon 6 exams, including the final exam. She requires you to by online textbook so you can do homework assignments, but its only 1 homework assignment each chapter. Attendance is only mandatory if you want lost test score dropped. when she lecture, you're confused the entire time. Move through material very fast!
Not very organized, lectures are boring and terrible, goes too fast and gets so distracted by other things going on. Managed a C thanks to my TA and going to the lab classes. Would not recommend her for this course. Attendance not mandatory but miss less than 4 classes replace your final grade with your lowest exam score.
Kind of tries to play funny, and acts sweet. She is far from. Grades ridiculously, eg miss a label miss all the points, even if you demonstrate you know the formulas. Don't even buy a calculator lol, 90% of the tests are non calculator.
Grades ridiculously hard on quizzes. Quizzes are usually 10 questions, with one question weighted at 5-18pts, so miss one question and you fail the quiz. Cares more about getting through lesson plan than students understanding of material/ not very efficient at explaining material. Terrible office hours. I wouldn't recommend this professor.
moves through material too fast, and she would rather get through the lesson rather than making sure the students understand what is going on. would not recommend this professor.
Shes really sweet and all but the class is unnecessarily hard. If you miss a class (which Ive missed plenty), its hard to make up for what youve missed.
she is super sweet and likes her students but the test and quiz grading system is trash. each question is like 5 pts so if you miss a few youll do poorly. would only recommend if you are great at math
Literally the best professor and teacher Ive ever had. So happy all the time and so sweet and genuine. Even though I hate math she literally made math class worth coming to.
I wouldn't suggest taking her, I had to repeat the course and was stuck with her again, only reason why I passed with a B was because of the TA. She speeds past everything, and don't rely on the keys for the labs because they're always wrong, our TA even offered to give us extra credit for every mistake the prof. did. Take someone else if you can.
Anne has a lot of negative reviews, but I think that this class is very easy if you show up to lecture and do homework. Attendance isnt mandatory, but if you miss 4 or less classes, she will replace your lowest test score with your final exam score. Also, use worksheets from labs to study for tests/quizzes because theyre very similar.
Anne was one of my least favorite teachers. She was very dry and hard to follow. She taught as if we were all second graders and made a lot of mistakes. The lab answer sheets were constantly wrong, so they weren't very helpful. Attendance is not mandatory, but she will drop your lowest test grade if you miss less than 4 classes.
Her teaching style is very bland just reading from the textbook and running through problems. She has homework nightly and frequent tests and quizzes. She can be very understanding though, i had slept through an exam and she allowed me to take it later that day for 10% off so at least there's that.
She is an amazing person. But, She tends to give the harder explanations and equations that are not necessary. I highly suggest watching videos online for help as most people give the equations that give sense the most rather than the way she teaches.
This class was VERY hard for me because of this professor. She speeds through problems and topics to fast that you can hardly comprehend what she is teaching because your to busy writing notes. You will get homework every night, it helps because you can go at your own pace but still hard. VERY easy to get behind, so try hard from the beginning.
Class is boring. Follows the same formula every day; New formula and then examples, takes her wayyy too long to get through stuff. It's not hard math at all, it's just hard to pay attention because of how boring her teaching is. Haven't touched the textbook. Quizzes weekly and tests frequent, will mark you down for not showing every piece of work.
Don't take this professor. At least 4 homework assignments every week online. Tests are 50% of your grade so if you fail one your grade will plummet. She doesn't drop her lowest test, and the tests are HARD. Even though I was in a classroom, it wasn't engaging at all. Toughest class I've had to take in college so far.
She tries to be fun and is really sweet... but just be prepared to stay until the last possible second of class even if you have a class immediately after 15 minutes away. There is a lot of homework a week and DONT buy the textbook!!!!.... if you took precalc in high school this class is easier to understand but if you didn't.... good luck Charlie.
I would not take her class even if it was the only one available. Tons of homework and it is online, which is really specific when typing your answer and can be easily marked wrong. I had to take this class again but with another professor because she does not know how to teach. Worst professor I have taken yet at college. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
She is the worst professor you will ever take at ISU. Her lectures are TERRIBLE to sit through she goes at a very fast pace even when you tell her to slow down because the only thing that matters is staying on schedule even though so many people are doing terrible in the class. Takes forever to grade tests. Do not take this class!!
Shows more interest in getting through a section than she does her students. SO much HW! Goes so fast through every lecture even if you ask her to slow down. Unwilling to work with you at all. I had math hw online that wasnt showing up and didnt realize it until I saw a 0 in grade book. Even though this wasnt my fault, she still gave me a 0.
Shes too focused on getting through the material rather than actually worrying about if her students understand it or not. She likes to hold the class till the literal end of the lecture so she can force some material in, even though it can be explained in the next class or lab. She goes ENTIRELY too fast during lectures.
Awful. The material is not diffucult but she makes a lot of mistakes that lead to confusion. She does not show care towards students and will not answer emails until multiple have been sent in regards to the same topic. Attendance is mandatory and they may mark you absent for days you were there. DO NOT PICK THIS INSTRUCTOR!
Professor Schmidt is not a bad professor. I'm bad at math and I passed easily. She teaches math like you're in middle school again. I think the worst thing is the weekly quizzes that she has the GA students hand out. The GA's aren't actual teachers so they have no sense on how to teach. Make sure you study and do hw and you will do just fine.
Professor Schmidt is not a good teacher at all. When asking about assignments or missed credit she tells you to check the syllabus instead of answering you directly. She does not answer questions during lecture either, and instead tells you to wait till the end of class to ask again. I would not recommend taking a class with professor Schmidt.
If you are ever considering taking a course with this professor, I highly advise against it. She gives 5 assignments a week for a total of 140 questions and those assignments are all put to 1 scored average, 20 assignments will bring you up 5%. She does not teach and be prepared to go to office hours if you ask her to slow down or repeat a topic.
Lectures can be hard to follow. Online assignments seemed too much. Not many chances to raise your grade. Only graded on 4 test and a final.
She is super sweet and a very caring person, but not my favorite teacher. normally the videos take an hour and on top of that you have an assignment outside of class. She sometimes skips ahead to lessons that arent even due yet so I have no idea what is going on in class because I havent gotten to the videos yet since its not due for a while
Doesn't teach at all. She just assigns long videos to watch and then just does examples in class instead of going over the fundamentals of what we're learning. She also skips ahead to topics where we havent even watched the videos yet. Also makes a lot of mistakes while doing examples and we have to point them out, otherwise she wouldnt see them
She quite honestly doesn't teach. Makes so many mistakes in terms of posting homework too late, forgetting her calculator constantly, forgetting to give tests, and little math mistakes like simple addition. If you ask for help she usually refers you to the book or other TA's. Has no leniency if you make a mistake, and tries to act fake nice.
Shes sweet but not very understanding. Too many topics in one week , gives quizzes, requires to go to classes, grades very hard on tests , had this class twice with her & dropped both semesters . Not worth it
Always there to help, but other than that not the best. She makes simple mistakes a lot. Really slow at grading exams it takes her two weeks. She is nice and always offers extra help but I wouldn't recommend. Tests are 60% of your grade but she drops one as long as you have good attendance. There's a lot of material so it's crucial to stay on track
Professor Schmidt was a very nice caring person! She is always available outside of class to meet in-person or on zoom for questions. She does have a strict grading policy on her exams. She gives a lot of homework assignments. Also almost your whole course grade is decided by the 4 exams and the final you take. Hope this helps
Anne is a very kind teacher who wants to see you succeed, and I don't envy any teacher having to teach Calc. That being said, I think the MAT curriculum you use is pointless. Advisors tell students this is business calc yet we are told this won't relate to much we will use. This class is tough unless you have previous experience with Calc
Professor Schmidt is a very caring person who wants you to succeed! She very accessible outside of class to meet. She does have a strict grading policy on her exams which makes up 60% of your grade. Go to class in person, do the homework, and get a tutor and you'll be fine. As long as you put in a little work, it's not as hard as it seems.
Very confusing, quizzes mean nothing everything is determined by 3 tests and she does not really care about you. She goes way to fast through the course work and its so hard to keep up. Doesn't really help you when you ask for help.
She's a kind prof, but she a tough grader, she teaches too fast, the math concept she teaches are easy, but she makes them difficult for no reason, and SO MUCH HW. I usually do good and push through in tough math classes, but this class actually made me cry. She also crams random chapters all together at the end before finals. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Pr. Schmidt seems like a great person, but I can understand how some find her classes difficult. We were expected to take very fast notes because there is so much to cover in 50 minutes. Comments like "you guys are tired" and "you guys are quiet" was quite common. It's Calc though, so expect to work, I guess.
This class was super hard to take. I would not recommend if you are not able to pay attention everyday and take notes. The homework in this class is so much and takes about a hour every night. She is a nice teacher but she makes the class super test heavy. The tests are 60% of your grade and are super hard to pass. I would not recommend taking.
She honestly seems cool, but she teaches like you are supposed to know what she is already talking about. the class gives a review session instead of lecture. which for me didn't work because I needed be taught the work. there are quizzes randomly given, does provides notes in class, but overall didn't work for me
She is a very kind and sweet person but I don't find her to be a very good teacher. She will cover everything you need in class but with very little detail and she moves quickly, so good luck ever getting any good notes. I find myself often needing to use outside resources to learn the same material faster and better than in her class.
While this class requires effort, it is not "difficult". Professor Schmidt is a kind person who wants you to succeed. Frequent her office hours if you feel you are struggling in the course/sign up for tutoring in the Visor center. Tutoring sessions coupled with actual effort allowed me to pass with an A. Her course is manageable for any student
Professor Schmidt has a particular teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be manageable. Definitely use unstuckstudy and the textbook to supplement the lectures. Stay focused, and you'll learn a lot.
She is literally not good at math, she makes mistakes all the time which makes learning this material very confusing. I also feel like she would glaze over pretty important topic which also made it hard to learn. LOTS of homework, each exam is worth 20 percent of your grade so you cant make up bad test grades with homework or quizzes.
Professor Schmidt frequently canceled class, leaving us to learn the material on our own. Even when class was canceled, we were still expected to keep up with new content. The lectures were often difficult to follow, which made understanding the material more challenging. Overall, I wasn't a fan of either her teaching style or the class.
Her class was super easy if you just paid attention. Prof. Schmidt was kind and accommodating. She gave clear explanations and good feedback on tests. She was not a hard grader and would give you the benefit of the doubt with half points. Overall I'd highly recommend her for MAT 144 because she really did do her best to prep you for MAT145/
Worst math professor I have ever had. She gives weekly quizzes and exams that make up 60% of your grade. You make a tiny mistake on the exams? She marks you off for that. She even makes mistakes in her work when she is teaching the lecture notes to us. If you can, do not take this professor for MAT 121.
L teacher tbh
I've never seen a professor mess up in lectures as much as her. She goes so slow and talks like she is teaching herself as she goes. The material itself is not hard, but she makes it difficult to understand
Doesn't explain how to do the problems even when students ask questions. Just does them and expects students to learn. Almost half of the entire lecture hall has dropped the class because they don't know what to do on the tests and quizzes so their grades were terrible. Would not recommend taking 121 with her unless you want to study every day.
this class was VERY HARD. at least for me. Anne was nice but commonly made mistakes during notes in class so make sure not to write in pen. i ended up dropping because i was going to fail the class by the end of the semester and i switched my major so this level of math was no longer required for me. she's a very nice lady tho and is accessible
Do not take it.
i learned more at tutoring than in class tbh. when asked a question she'll just brush it off or give a completely unrelated answer. shes very nice though. just dont skip class, go to tutoring, study practice problems and you'll be fine.
She teaches as if it's review and not something new we all are learning and moves very fast with no strong explanation to important details in some lectures. She makes mistakes during notes. Sometimes she will catch it and sometimes she won't.The class is difficult regardless of the professor but she is one I would say wouldn't make it any easier.
Very sweet lady but not a good professor. She constantly made mistakes during lectures and when questions were asked she went off track without answering or added unnecessary steps. We were always a chapter behind on each unit and had to cram the last chapter right before the final. She also gave a study guide key with incorrect answers.
She's a very nice person but this class was genuinely one of the hardest classes I have ever taken in my entire life. We had to teach ourselves and I bombed the first two exams but after studying for 24+ hours on the last exams I managed to get A's on both. Calculus is hard in itself but if you take it here be prepared to study for days to pass.
