Literature for me was always viewed as dorky and boring. Professor Schoolfield made the class so interesting. My view on writing and literature has changed because of her. She's fun and you can tell she enjoy's teaching. Very helpful gets the class involved in conversations. I would highly recommended her. One of the best Professors I've had.
I thoroughly enjoyed these classes. Professor has a way of inviting class discussion, but not forcing it. Usually worked out well. Participation grade. Tests are easy if you go to class and read. Sometimes even if you just go to class. Essays are a bit harder to get a good grade on.
Awesome teacher...you understand the class and enjoy it through her sarcasm about the course itself....which is about "teaching how to write the things no one wants to read". You know memos...reports...etc. Again Awesome choice for a teacher!
Her essays are really really hard. They verge on impossible for a non-english major.
A lot of projects, but no final exam, and if you had any questions, she was always available to help.
Thought it would be easy at first, FRUSTRATING WOMAN! Be sure and learn HER version of MLA format or shell fail every paper, the official website for MLA is NOT what she follows. Assignments are not very well thought out and dont work for all people in the class. attend policy rediculous. change your class if you get her. dont say i didnt warn you
Professor provided assignment sheets and examples for each assignment and explained each assignment clearly. Available and willing to read paper drafts--provides helpful comments. Allows rewrites of shorter papers. Some fun assignments . . . interviews. Some not so fun . . . research paper. All in all, a good class and good professor.
Pretty good teacher. Definitely one of the harder teachers, but still not too bad. Lot of work, especially essays. However, she grades leniently. If you are reasonably intelligent you can get an A.
She's great! She is a tough grader when it comes to papers, but I made an A pretty easily. She provides examples and walks students through the papers; she's always willing to answer any questions.
She doesn't really do a whole lot of teaching, and isn't very flexible.
We wrote essays which she graded on grammar, not content. She was biased towards the kids who sat in the front and talked to her. She openly said "You're my favorite." To a girl and so she repeatedly came in 30 minutes late and never said anything. I walked in on time, and she said "you're late." I wouldn't recommend taking a class from her. Ever.
I honestly felt like I was back in the 6th grade. She treats her students like they're 12 years old and favors some over others. She grades essays (our only real grade) on grammar, not content or form. If you are very dumb and do not want a college course, please, choose this "professor". I didn't learn a single thing from this woman.
Professor Schoolfield was great! She held individual conferences twice during the semester, and I really learned a lot from these about how to improve my paper specifically. She's also happy to help you with your papers during her office hours. She gives out an assignment sheet for every paper, which makes it really easy to know what's expected.
I thought she was great! She's extremely helpful and always willing to help you develop your paper. She also explains the grammar she expects you to know and gives specific assignment sheets for each paper so you know exactly what's expected. I dreaded taking English, but she made it fun, and I feel a lot better about my writing now.
Terrible teacher. She doesn't teach anything. Class time is spent reading from the textbook aloud, like elementary school. She always said to go to the writing lab for punctuation help, however they say that they don't check for punctuation, only content. She gave me the only B I have ever received in my college career (I'm a jr) DON'T TAKE HER!
Great teacher! Class was easy because she almost always reread the assigned literature. I'd urge you to participate in class otherwise it will be very boring & because final grades are based on participation. Grades consisted of about 4 short papers (2-3 pages), one 5-7 page paper, and a final exam paper.
Clear teacher, fair grader. Work hard in class and you will make an A. Don't turn in assignments late or use non-MLA citations. Also, grammar is next to godliness in Prof. Schoolfield's class-- dude, ROFL, and LOLs will not impress her. She will let you go over the word limit but never under. If you need help, she is happy to help you.
She is very nice and helpful in general, and welcomes students to her office hours. She is very dedicated to her class (you can tell she is prepared to teach). She expects her students to actually work, since she wants the most out of her students, which i like to see in professors. she actually cares, unlike the "lecture and leave" type.
She is very helpful and nice.
Schoolfield is really nice and won't hesitate to answer questions. Make sure you take notes and say something -anything- every class period because participation counts. Sometimes you can't read her notes, but she will tell you what she meant if you ask. Also, she is the only ENGL 1315 professor to have tests, which include timed explications.
This teach is PHENOMENAL. I adore her and her class. Follow the rules (she outlines them very clearly), and if you get a chance, visit her office hours. She's wonderful to talk to! The class is not difficult, just do what she asks of you.
She's nice as person but terrible as a professor. It's a few days to finals and she is the only professor I have that gives us 2 essays to write. If you want to go to her office hours you must first visit the writing lab a thousand times. Don't expect to make an A in any essay because what she is looking for is never clear.
Professor Schoolfield makes her expectations incredibly clear and gives great feedback both in class and during office hours. She always responds quickly to emails. And the two papers at the end of the semester . . . one is a rewrite of of the first paper we wrote, and if we make an A on the paper, we get to replace our first, lower grade.
Prof. Schoolfied is hilarious and makes this class really fun. She also holds conferences with every student for the final project to make sure we do well on it. Answers emails quickly and gives clear instructions--easy to make a good grade if you follow them. If you want to brush up on your grammar, take this class.
Great!
Great professor, although her class was a little tough. Homework is due every class and participation is important to pass. The tests are hard if you don't have the grammar rules and such down. She lectures quickly and doesn't post her powerpoints on Blackboard so attendance is a must!! If you work hard you will pass.
Schoolfield's lectures are incredibly engaging. She really draws people in and makes even the most mundane literature seem exciting. On the other hand, her class is not too easy and does require you to do the work. If she sees that you are working hard, then she will help you and make sure you succeed in her class.
I love Professor Schoolfield.
She is great at telling you exactly what she expects and is helpful during office hours to get essays edited. Make an effort to participate and seek help outside of class and you will do great!
We all thought she gave way too much homework at the beginning of the semester, but it wasn't that bad (about a page a day). She's fun to talk to and very understanding. She doesn't give you any grades on the essays so you basically don't know your grade until the very end. From what I've heard most people got A's though.
Professor Schoolfield will make you work for the grade. The material is very straightforward (4-5 books a semester), but the workload is tough. She is a very sweet lady who is willing to help you out, but if you struggle with a lot of busy work/procrastinate, this course will be difficult to keep up with.
Isn't clear on expectations and doesn't pass back graded assignments until the week before the semester ends. You won't know your grade or how you're doing until it's too late. If you want to pass, you're expected to go to office hours religiously.
Doesn't require office hours, but you'd be stupid not to go. She holds a lot of office hours--more than most professors--so that students can get individual help with their writing. And unlike some writing teachers, she actually tells you how to improve your writing.
She's a great teacher and really wants you to do well. She gave me warnings and allowed me to fix my behavior before she took off any points and allows you to come in for feedback on the essays so you can write them exactly how she wants them. She values participation a lot so be sure to read and talk in class. Easy A if you put in the effort.
This lady knows her stuff. I didn't learn anything my entire grade school career about Grammar. She helped me develop the skills from the ground up. She has a dry sense of humor that comes out in her lectures. Really cool woman.
Schoolfield is a great teacher and professor. She really does care about her students and wants everyone to learn and grow from taking her course. Just prepare for the discussion questions. You will die.
The workload is very heavy, but if she sees that you're putting the work into her class, you'll get a good grade. She gives really good feedback on papers so you know exactly what she expects. She's a very nice lady who wants everyone to do well if they're willing to put the effort into her class.
Professor Schoolfield gave homework every class and we had 8 papers. She gives great feedback and I learned so much about literature and writing during her class.
If you have NO other subject for the semester and nothing else better to do in life, then you should take her. She constantly changes schedule and you are looking at 3-4 hours of homework each day. She even changed the Exam Dates. The stress level in this class is ridiculous.
You write four papers for the class and have the opportunity to re-write each of them for a higher grade. The daily work makes you a better reader and writer. MY SAT scores improved significantly because of my work in this class. Any schedule adjustments are to give us more time to do the work, and she gives great feedback.
Prof. Schoolfield is very insightful, sweet, and intelligent, and her lectures are well-spoken and intriguing. She assigns a LOT of hw (as a TAMS kid, it was def a struggle) but if you work hard and prove it to her, she'll see and respect that. Would def take again!
She gives a lot of work, so be prepared to write. She grades fairly easy though
Reading 40-50 pages daily is no joke. Too much discussion questions and homework. You really get sick of it. She should better teach and then assign the homework rather than the other way around.
Students are really fed up with the Discussion Questions and Papers. Really no other subject study gets done since you are doing English all the time. What a waste of time for STEM students.
The reading isn't bad. Most successful people read. A lot. Discussion questions also aren't bad--generally, one per chapter. Professor answers emails promptly and offers extra office hour before papers. She's also funny and sometimes adjusts our schedule when we have a lot of tests in other classes. If you don't want to work, take someone else.
Professor gives great feedback on paper drafts during office hours and will also help by email. Class discussions are interesting. Reading not bad if you keep up.
Professor is really helpful during office hours and answers emails quickly. Assignment instructions are clear.
Expects you to read and do the work, but answers email quickly and makes expectations clear. Made me think about writing in a new way. Gives helpful feedback on written work. Also helpful and easy to talk to during office hours.
Prof. Schoolfield is really caring. She will make exceptions if you have other exams and provides extra time for completing the assignments. Very considerate. She will accommodate as long as you do your part of the work and show sincere dedication.
I have had the honor of taking Prof. Schoolfield for 2 semesters and have sincerely learned a lot. Agreed it was not easy, but the language improvement was definitely worth it.
Her grading is terrible she goes based off of percentages and makes you work really hard for your grade. I would not recommend taking her online class because she grades very strictly.
The online class is a lot of work. You have to keep up. But she gives more feedback than a lot of professors do online. Every time you do a major assignment, you write a paragraph and get feedback and then, a rough draft with feedback before you submit the final paper. She also usually answers email questions within a couple of hours.
Anne Schoolfield is easily the most amazing English professor at UNT. She is extremely knowledgeable, loves all of her students and classes, and she gives her students everything they need to succeed. She even provides opportunities to share ideas to students who may be too shy to speak in class. She wants you to do well, and gives great feedback.
She is the WORST teacher I've ever had in my entire life. I passed English 1310 with an A, yet in English 1320, she keeps giving me F after F after F on assignments that the writing center helped me with and said was good quality for that assignment.
Did you consider speaking with Professor Schoolfield? The Writing Center tutors aren't always helpful, but Professor Schoolfield is extremely kind, patient, and helpful. If you're having trouble with your grade, you should speak with her. She can help you learn a lot.
Love her--she's hilarious
I truly liked having her as a teacher. Though she was a tough grader for essays, I was still able to get an A because the exams are not too hard as long as you read! You have to read in this class because the classtimes are completely discussion based. She's so funny and sweet! TAMS kids will validate. Don't plagiarize.
Overall she seemed like a great person but not a great professor. There were 2 tests, both were VERY heavy and filled with information which was way too much for the amount of time we had. Homework was due EVERY class period. 2 quizzes. 2 projects at the end of the semester. Didn't learn anything from this class.
Actually, she's a great professor and knows more about grammar than God. I learned a lot about grammar and how to explain it to my future students. She's fair, responds to email quickly, and will take time to help you outside of class if you go to office hours. If you want to learn, take the course. If you want an easy A, take another class.
I came into this class knowing almost nothing about British literature and came out knowing a lot. Tests can be difficult if you don't know how to study for them, but she helped us learn how to study for them and gave lots of extra credit opportunities as well. Hilarious and knows a lot about British history and culture too.
Super engaging!
Amazing Professor. Reply to emails really really fast. Very caring and give good feedbacks to papers. There are a lot of discussion questions but they help you with writing papers. The test is not very hard, and there are only two tests for the whole semester. Highly recommended if you want a good teacher.
Great professor--kind, thoughtful, helpful. Works hard to make sure all students understand the material. Responds to email quickly.
I was told that prof Schoolfield would be an "easy A" as long as you do your work. Honestly, this isn't a "hard" class, but the amount of hw is definitely not easy. We have DQ's due every other day and homework due on the weekend. Sometimes we have a combination of DQ's and an essay due the same week. Be prepared for A LOT of canvas announcements
Schoolfield gives a lot of discussion questions, but you know that coming into her class. My writing improved a lot in her class. Cool books too.
Great professor. Flexible about deadlines when class went online mid-semester. Gives great feedback on projects. Helped me think a lot about teaching when I graduate.
Go to class, do the HW, read the books, participate, and put EFFORT in the essays and she will see that. If she sees that you put effort and are trying in her class you will get an A. If you do not put in the effort, well good luck
Professor Schoolfield is amazing. She is very flexible and caring when it comes to deadlines, and she is always there to check up on you if you miss an assignment. I learned so much in her grammar class, and I wish I could take her again! Lots of homework (due every other day), but if you're going to teach or write, take her! It's all worth it.
Professor Schoolfield is lenient and caring, just what you need in this pandemic. She doesn't nitpick and seems to genuinely love her life. She values your time and has a great personality overall. If you're unwilling to put in a little effort though, you shouldn't take her. Anyone who struggled will prob admit that they didn't want to do the work.
Homework due literally every other day
Loved her class! She's super flexible, accessible, gives great feedback, and is VERY understanding (especially since it's a pandemic). Beware of lots of discussion questions and lots of reading, but as long as you do the work and participate in class you'll get an A. Very funny person, and discussions are lively. Tries her best to help you.
Yes, there's daily work, but hey, it's college. Most courses have work due every class day if you're honest. It's just that a lot of professors let you get away with not reading. This professor doesn't. For the final project, she gives a lot of feedback on drafts that help you make a higher grade.
Prof. Schoolfield is fantastic! There is a lot of homework, but it is useful information that will help you in this class. No essays, a few quizzes, 2 major exams, and one final project. She gives good feedback on everything. Participation matters, but if something comes up she is understanding! TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Its not her fault grammar sucks, but she made it very easy to ask questions and made sure we understood every topic. Theres a LOT of homework but going over the homework every class genuinely made a difference in understanding the material. Plus shes just so nice.
She was a good Professor. I had turned in papers that had tons of spelling mistakes and random symbols in the paper that I didn't realize were there until after I had submitted the paper and she didn't take off points. this was because I told her I struggled a lot with spelling in general. Mandatory note-taking in class helps with the DQ's.
There is a lot of work for this class but most of it is pretty easy.
Great professor and person and you'd probably have to try to get a B. Quite a bit of work but it's really not that bad considering how generously she grades the work.
Schoolfield is a great lecturer. It's important for you to do the discussion questions and pay attention in class as you have to take lecture notes. She gives a lot of work but has very lenient grace periods and is, overall, an easy grader. Would not recommend if you're looking to actually improve your writing.
Does not grade anything until the very last day. Gives DQ's 3 times every week, then does not check them at all. Too much work for her not to care. Does not use class time appropriately. Instead, half of the class does not pay attention while she rambles on about the book. Although an easy A, is not a good teacher. Would not take her class again.
Great readings and in-depth class discussions.Schoolfield is also very open to different perspectives and will discuss anything from the reading that students bring up, so I always felt comfortable talking in class. Responds quickly to emails and gives lots of hints and examples for writing assignments.
Class has a lot of homework, but it gives you practice with grammar concepts that you might not have studied thoroughly before. Also, professor is willing to provide alternate explanations to difficult concepts and gives great feedback on sections of your last class project. Willing to help you over email or with online conferences. Very caring.
Professor Schoolfield is upbeat and caring. She's open to questions in class and really tries to make sure everyone understands the material. Also willing to help you outside of class and answers emails quickly.
She is one of the best English professors I've taken!! Approachable and provides valuable feedback. Someone who genuinely cares about her students and helps them progress! If you actually want to learn and have a quality learning time, take Professor Schoolfield.
Professor schoolfield is a really nice teacher, until you see the amount of work you have to do to not even receive 3 sentences of feedback, much less a grade. Out of the countless DQS we have done, she has graded a nominal amount, I am clear when I say this: I have not learned in her class.
Schoolfield is kind, caring, and knowledgeable. She really wants students to learn and gives detailed and helpful feedback on major assignments. Cool plays too.
Responds to emails quickly (even on weekends). Practice quizzes and answer keys have helpful explanations for studying. Gives good feedback on drafts.
Do not take her. So much work for no reason and does not even display your grade.
Books and class discussion are really interesting. Professor is always open to student ideas and also helps you learn how to support your ideas. Follow assignment instructions and you'll do well in the class.
If you do the work, you can learn a lot. Gives good feedback to help you think through your topic and expand your research. Understanding if you're sick or have an emergency. Answers emails quickly.
I love Professor Schoolfield. Although she assigned lots of busy work, the experience I gained writing in the course helped me immensely. She gave a lot of participation points, so conversing and adding information to the in-class discussions is important. The essays are fairly difficult as most of them are explication based so easy to get used to.
Lots of homework, but the in-class discussions are very engaging and comprehensive, and I found the content to be interesting. Also, the class is structured so that it's fairly easy to get a high grade if you try on all the homework and major assignments.
Honestly, she's a great professor! Grammar can be really hard, so be sure to ask questions because she really does wanna help! Quiz every week and homework due every other day, it's a lot tbh.
Great professor! Very challenging class but she makes it worth it. Lots of assignments but they all felt necessary and added to the learning. I loved her lectures. She is very passionate!
Just overall didn't enjoy many things about the class. Very strict with late work (gives 0s on ALL late work) and after the first few sets of discussion questions, gave minimal feedback on them. Just overall eh, though the in-class discussions were pretty good.
Professor is awesome! Books and class discussions are amazing and she set up extra hours for writing and feedback on the last essay.
