She's not a good instructor. Tests on a lot of stuff she doesn't even cover. Expects students to have no life and live on chemistry alone. Keeps sayings students have no reason not to do all homework and come to weekend and night reviews and come to her office...some students commute and work full time and have spouses and family! There are reasons
Fall '07 was her first semester teaching at ECU and I think it was a learning curve for her. Yes, she expects you to study and she expects you to do the homework. However, if you do all these things, try hard, and go see her when you need help, she's not going to turn you away. She devoted a lot of her personal off time if you needed the help an
She is nice but her exams are really hard..she will help you but you will have to work a lot and again her exams are hard so study A LOT
Great teacher! she is really good at chemistry but her exams are really hard! study as much as possible trust me you will need to.
She is a nice person and she tries, but she just isn't that great of a teacher. Her test don't look anything like the homework (which comes in large quantities) or the practice problems that are done in class. If you have any hope of passing this class, let alone pulling an A or a B, then expect to have no life other than chemistry!
She seems nice at first, and although she knows what she is talking about she doesn't always make sense. She seems to have problems when it comes to answers your questions. She goes around the world to explain and by that time you're more lost than you were to start with. If you're a person who is already good at chemistry, she's the one for you
she is very helpful. she make herself availiable throught study sessions, and office hours. its up to you to use her to help you
I don't know what those other people are talking about. The class is HARD, but she offers SO MANY study sessions and a great deal of extra credit. If you come to class and do the mastering chemistry assignments the class will be a little bit easier. She is very smart and knows her stuff. She is incredibly helpful. Only 4 tests thoughs
Dr. Spuches is a great professor...yes, she assigns ton and tons of homework on mastering chemistry, but it is only to prepare you for the exams. Gives i-clicker questions in class and extra credit. Overall, chemistry is hard and if want to pass you have to study. Take her class she is really helpful has lots of study sessions....:)
Ok Kiddies your adults now & in College;so put on your big girl panties and deal with it! Dr. S is a great Chemistry Professor. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. Tons of Extra Credit Opportunities and stays on campus late 2-3 times per week to offer study sessions. You Gotta do the work,Chemistry is not easy. A+++ for Dr. S She rocks!
Expanding upon my previous statement above....The only thing I would recommend is that she make notes available on blackboard the day before the lecture. It seems like over the course of a semester a lot of time is wasted waiting for students to finish copying information down.Other than that A+++
she knows her chemistry but she will kill you with work. she offers a great deal of extra credit to make up for missed assignments though. very helpful.
Dr.Spuches is a really nice teacher!! She tries really hard to help her students understand more then requierd. She gives out a TON of homework and the class requiers a lot of your time, but she tries her possible best to help out. I made 3 Ds on her 4 exams but had a strong a average on homework and i passed with a C. GOOD Teacher, TAKE HER!
Chemistry is hard all around but she takes the time in lecture to explain some unsure points. She stays after hours to hold review sessions at times when most students are capable of attending. Do not take her at 8 a.m, the class will put you to sleep. Overall, great teacher with an insane amount of homework but very helpful.
She is a great teacher. She makes sure that everything is avalible to you as a student. She hold reviews for tests and will answer anyquestions you have at anytime.
Great professor! She really enjoys teaching and it shows. She tries to make a difficult subject easy for everyone. She assigns several extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Go to the review sessions! She's great and I plan to take her for inorganic
She is a great professor! yes chemistry is a hard subject but she helps out any way she can. If you want a decent grade go to all of her weekly study sessions as well as office hours. She will explain anything that is unclear. She gives so many curves and extra credit opportunities that anyone who honestly wants to get through chemistry will.
She is a wonderful professor! she really tries to make sure that everyone understands what going on in class. If you don't, she has great review sessions. I recommend her to anyone for Chemistry!
Hottest prof around! And very sweet. Loves chemistry.
Very good teacher, engaged, loves her subject and the students, is tough but fair, and I really do not understand why she hasn't gotten a chilly yet.
some people said she gives extra credit for 1150 but not this semester. She is a GENIUS. she explains concepts really well but her tests are somewhat hard.Often in class she will EMPHASIZE on topics that are not very important or only have one question on the test. GO TO HER SI sessions that's where you can actually understand chemistry.
Spuches was a pretty good teacher. Her tests were hard but she often forgot about appointments that I had made with her. Make sure that you remind her about appointments. Go to class and study for all Exams!
She did everything she could to make sure you got a good grade. she is a really good teacher. the people that complained about her being hard i guess they expected this to be like high school chemistry. if you do your work you will learn and also easily get an a.
She is very clear in class. I had to retake chemistry and she was WAYYY more helpful than the last professor. She takes attendance randomly, but she said it's no big deal, and exams can be pretty tricky. I can say that I didnt have her, I probably would have failed..again
And this class is the reason I changed my major after a month of attending ECU. Dr. S is a super great professor and does her best to explain the material, but it is a very hard class. She offers help after class and evening review secession. She gives a ton of homework on Mastering Chemistry. Its a good class if you already like chemistry.
Dr. Spuches is amazing! She is willing to provide help anytime, often extending office hours to compensate students. She also makes tutorial videos to assist with homework, opens past assignments for correction, and gives extra credit for being in class. GREAT PROFESSOR for the topic and I highly recommend her!
Dr. Spuches is good! She is very clear in class about what you need to know. There is a little more homework than average, but she usually allows for extra time on the assignments. Overall, a good chemistry professor. Take her class
She is a great teacher & she really knows what she's doing. She has extended every HW date to every assignment. She curves the tests but not by much. DO THE HOMEWORK! She talks sort of fast but goes back. I've taken so many chems and this is the first chem I've taken that I actually get. HIGHLY RECOMEND!!!!
She's a great professor, but it is very traditional lecture style. If you fall behind in the beginning, you're screwed for the rest of the semester. She's better than other chemistry professors and she offers exam review before each exam. She gave us 3 amnesty days for Mastering Chemistry homework assignments and she offers a lot of resources!
Loved Dr. Spuches! Very nice and very specific when it comes to teaching the material. She is knowledgeable, yet talks to you like you are college students, not doctoral graduates. She made chemistry fun for me, and if you go to class, you shouldn't have a problem.
Dr. Spuches is a great professor. She is very intelligent. This class requires a lot of studying and preparation. You must be willing to work for your grade and honestly, just practice, practice, practice. She gives you study guides for all the exams and it's very helpful. Go to her office hours. Loved her class I wouldn't mind taking it again.
Took it 1150 TTH class we ended up missing two chapters. Then doesnt tell you that when she does final grades she WILL NOT ROUND!!! So therefore I had 72.5 and wouldnt give it to me because she doesnt round. I did tutoring wiht her, PTC, and other class mates. You wanna take her good luck, she is not clear at all and assumes all students "get it"
MS. SPUCHES IS AMAZING!!!!! chemistry as a subject is hard! There's nothing easy about , however: she makes is 100x better. She makes sure you understand it before moving on. . She'll Move your homework deadline back anytime you need to.
Excellent professor, difficult class however. First time teaching Inorganic therefore class felt a little scattered. Curve was based of highest grade & brought up to 100 so if someone makes a 98, you're screwed with a 2 point curve. Tests were not multiple choice and were 10 single-pages. First test a lot of people didn't finish, study super hard.
Dr. Spuches makes everything simple in class. But the homework is nothing like the actual exams, it is extremely difficult. I had to go to PTC every week just to get it done. On the bright side the exams were a breeze compared to the homework. The key to a good grade is practice, practice, practice.
Don't listen to the poor reviews, Dr. Spuches is so genuine and serves the material on a silver platter. Usually extends the deadline for homework but it's time consuming so expect to allocate time to Chemistry in order to succeed. She's a great professor, would take again. You do need a clicker for quizzes but she let's you know ahead of time.
Anne is great! I hated chemistry in high school and now I kind of like it, this course anyway. She gives clicker questions for attendance so don't plan on skipping. She by far is my favorite teacher this semester! I didn't use my textbook at all this semester either.
Dr. Spuches is great! She understands when you need to miss class or forgot your clicker (don't do it too often though), and she is very clear in her presentation of the material. As long as you're in lecture, you'll do well!
This was a tough class, so you definitely need to show up. She gave homework outside of class too. There were rarely any extra credit opportunities. The class uses clickers to take attendance, so you need to show up.
Super lit professor, she knows how to teach very well but the material is hard af in general.
She is a really good teacher. You must go to class and pay attention. She curves all test and the final replaces your lowest one. Also adds 3 random points to your test after the curve which is nice. I would take her again. Be prepared to study.
Great professor and very caring if you want to be there. Only issue is the Practice Exams she gives you are nothing like the actual tests so if you study that way you will not pass ((learned from experience)). Clicker questions for attendance.
Anne Spuches is a terrible teacher, she is not very nice and there is alot of homework. She is very unclear and does not try and help you pass
Professor Spuches was great. Her tests are ridiculously easy - some questions come from the practice exams she posts online. I never paid attention in class and ended up with a 98. Just go to class for attendance, do the homework (I missed 2 but still got an A) and study for the tests and you will do fine.
This professor is by far the best chemistry professor in the entire school. Go to her office hours and go to tutoring, you can pass with a B. You will not pass if you do not put forth the effort though. She is very helpful and caring and will not turn you away for seeking help.
There are no reasons to not do good in her class. She gives you every opportunity to make up/get points back. I'd suggest reading over the slides before she presents them. She tends to rush though some of the material, because sometimes she assumes you know it from high school. Overall, she's an amazing professor and is always welling to help you.
class is easy as long as you attend lectures, always has examples to help you
Very intelligent, well-respected prof. She is funny and kind. Enjoyed every lecture. Work hard and she gives you every chance to succeed.
Mrs. Spuches is great at giving lectures and if you attend class, pay attention, and study you'll be fine! you do group work every Friday so pick a good group or you're out of luck.
She posted videos in addition to notes and lectures which made content easier to understand. Must attend class for clicker question points. Much better than other chem teachers
Really kind and explains concepts well. Much better than the other chem profs, always willing to help and easily accessible outside of class. Study guides and practice exams are very helpful for her tests.
Dr. Spuches is an incredible and outstanding woman of science! She is an amazing professor let alone researcher. She inspires many students to pursue their goals and drives students to be their absolute best. She works with students and offers many opportunities to get help, if you do not understand a topic. Overall, Dr. Spuches is a model teacher
Dr. Spuches was my favorite professor this past semester! She is an amazing lecturer and she really works with you if you don't get a topic in class. She taught a problem solving session every Friday and I felt like it really helped me understand the topics more! I really wish the entire chemistry department would teach classes like this!
Out of all of the other teachers for CHEM 1150 for Spring 2018 I feel like by far she was the best option. Even though she did breeze through some topics, I feel like if you are in a study group (which I definitely recommend for reviewing) and the groups we did on Friday's with the TA's you should be ok. Just remember to do your HW and your clicker
She's really great. There are four exams which count as most of your grade and group work every Friday (which really helps). STUDY THE PRACTICE EXAMS GIVEN, they really help with studying. Has power points and offers for students to come to office. Bonus points go up to 3 points for each exam.
She's a really good chem professor. Takes time to answer student questions and makes sure we understand what is going on.
Super intelligent professor and really cares about teaching you Chemistry, You will definitely have to work for the grade you want but if you go to class, pay attention, and Friday group work, you can get at minimum a B.
I think she might be one of the best chemistry instructors I've encountered. She's not monotonous and she is very easy to understand. Chem can be a difficult subject, but she 's a really good teacher and speaks about it with enthusiasm. She is very approachable and she knows how to explain concepts to you on your level. If you can take her, do it.
Test very hard. Easy homework. Great Professor. Nothing negative to say about Dr. Spuches
Dr. Spuches cares for her students. She explains concepts and topics very well. I started going to her office hours towards the end of the semester but I wish I went earlier, once I started seeing her 1-1 I understood concepts better. She would go through my past tests with me. She def. prepares you for the final! 1 of the best profs. I've had!
Dr. Spuches has been my favorite professor at ECU. She goes over topics, answers every question, is always available, and makes us feel totally prepared. Tests are pretty average, lots of room for extra grading points with bonus points for tests and clicker questions. Take this professor!
I had Dr. Spuches for both CHEM 1150 and CHEM 1160. I've really enjoyed her classes and she made the transition to online learning for COVID-19 a breeze. She gives bonus point quizzes after every test. Take her class, you won't regret it!
Queen of chemistry!! Truly a great teacher and person in general.
you NEED Spuches! She is so funny, cares about her students, and is accessible outside of class. She is a great teacher online and in person. If you want to understand chemistry and excel, take Spuches! Multiple opportunities to get a good grade. Overall, she is one of my favorite professors!
I took Dr. Spuches for Gen Chem 1 and 2 and she was the best professor I've ever had. She makes lecture so interesting and will stop in the middle of class to answer questions. Her tests are fair and she gives practice exams that are very helpful. She expects a lot from her students but she provides a path to success. I would 12/10 take her again
She's the best and her lectures were actually understandable along with her worksheets were easy to learn on how to use concept and equations.
Professor Spuches is very sweet and will work with you when needed, you need to go to her lectures and shes always willing to answer any question you have. Chem is no where near my favorite subject but she made it enjoyable.
Spuches is a nice person but she's a hard teacher. She assigns clicker questions that are quite simple and she gives worksheets and discussions. Those aren't bad either but while the majority of the class isn't too hard, the tests are impossible. I never got above a B- on a test, and she never curved, but she always gave 4 bonus points (easy ?'s).
Dr. Spuches was wonderful! She explains things very clearly in lectures (as long as you pay attention), and gives many opportunities for you to succeed. There were homework assignments each week, as well as clicker quizzes in lecture, but as long as you pay attention and ask questions when you have them, you'll do fine!
Dr. Spuches really helped me understand chemistry better. Right now, she allows students to show up in person or virtually, which is really helpful. She also gives out a bonus point quiz that gives you extra credit after each test. There are lecture quizzes during each class that really help boost your grade. She even goes over them in class!
Not a fan, took her because I heard that she was the best chem prof at ECU, if this is the best we can do I am terrified. Exams were extremely confusing and material was impossible to get through. Start booking appointments at the PASC now!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Dr. Spuches, she is hands down the best professor for general chemistry. I had her both for Gen. Chem 1150/1160 and she helped me overcome my fear of chemistry. She has extra credit opportunities like bonus point quizzes (that go towards your exam), wonderful PowerPoints, and she records the lectures online to rewatch!
Dr Spuches is a great professor. One thing I would make sure to do is start studying from the beginning of course, for the grade to be a B or higher. Lowest exam is dropped. The exams are relatively hard but are manageable if you study.. STUDY STUDY STUDY if you want an A. Great professor but very hard class. Final exam is curved.
Loved this professor, she genuinely cares about her students succeeding. She does group worksheets which helps a lot of people. Shes caring and understand but exhibits a perfect example of a college professor. Tough but makes lectures entertaining and interesting!
She is simply amazing! Very I understanding, is always willing to provide extra help. She gives extra credit on exams, and provides review sessions before exams. Highly recommend this professor.
She is a nice person but during her lectures, she was kind of confusing. I would go to office hours for clarifications on some topics you don't understand. Her exams are definition and WHY based. each question is 2 parts, you need to know the definition and the WHY.
Lectures get posted but make sure you are in class to answer clicker questions. Overall she is very helpful and understanding just get your work done and your straight.
She does assign a lot of homework, quizzes, etc., but she teaches so well & really explains things so you understand. This class was tough but all the homework really helps. She offers extra credit & there are a lot of other grades besides exams that can help your grade. Her lectures weren't boring & she's super nice & funny. TAKE HER!!
I love Dr. Spuches! She cares so much about her students and will do anything to make sure you understand the material!! Go to office hours and use the time that she makes available for her students!! FOR SURE take dr. s
Dr. Spuches is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is so caring about her students and offers so many extra credit opportunities. She has clicker questions that count for attendance but drops the lowest 6 grades of them and they really don't effect your grade that much. I would take her again if she taught 1160.
All I have to say is I love Dr.Spuches she is the best college professor I ever had! She makes learning fun and you really understand it, at first your like umm but you also get it quickly. I missed a day and then went to her office hours and she gave me full credit for the day and I understood the lecture more and made an A on my first exam.
She provides lots of extra opportunities for students to learn the material. She has amazing lectures with interactive clicker questions and extra resources. She's often available to meet during office hours to help students who might be struggling or missed a class. Gives plenty of homework that can be reviewed and is often forgiving on due dates
It is very obvious she loves the students and loves what she does! This is what makes her such a great teacher! She's very humble as well! You will not regret taking her. No matter the circumstance, she does her best to help you succeed in her class and receive the information as well!
Attendance is graded through clicker questions in class. Lots of group worksheets. Lots of homework on BeSocratic. Explains concepts very well and tries to do hands on work to help your understanding. Does reresection quizzes after tests to help bring your grade up.
Anne Spuches is an amazing chemistry professor and if you can get into her class absolutely do it. Chem 1150 was a lot of lectures with Point Solutions questions, some worksheets you do with a group, and 4 exams including the final. Material is not difficult if you go to class and pay attention, exams are curved a good bit.
Great teacher. Tests are very fair no curve though. Only attendance is for worksheets. Homework is mostly participation. She's a great person and teacher. She went to the library on a Sunday to review for finals, would reccomend to anyone
Dr. Spuches was amazing! She is more than willing to work with her students to set them up for success. She's so easy to talk to and gives wonderful feedback. She also gives extra credit opportunities for each exam grade. Attendance is important for the Poll Everywhere questions she has. Show up and do your best and you will pass.
Dr.Spuches was one of the best professors I have ever had. Chemistry is hard and she was able to break it down and make it simple for the students. Also, she was always available for extra help and emails back fast. Although, my suggestion for the tests is to always study way ahead because they are hard so it's not possible to cram for them.
One of my favorite professors. Her lectures are very clear and she will answer any questions you ask. There are a lot of in class group worksheets that take up a good chunk of your grade. She is very understanding and clearly really understands the subject she teaches.
She makes it easy to understand chemistry, offers a lot of redemption and extra credit. Is available outside of class and cares about her student's success and understanding of the course material. I definitely recommend taking her for chemistry 1160.
You can tell Dr. Spuches cares about her students. She alwasy gives multiple choice exams with the occational 1 problem on the back that you have to solve mathematically. She does give a ton of worksheets in class to work on in groups. However, she does go over the worksheets as a whole class.
This was one of the best experiences I have had with a professor. She genuinely cares that you do well in her class and that you truly understand the concepts. After each exam you can pick up your exam and she posts the answer keys so you have them to review for the final. She also gives your multiple opportunities to gain points back on exams.
This is the professor to take.
