great lecture slides
Shes pretty good, her slides are great and shes always making sure that people understand
nice + clear + helpful + interactive ^^ her homeworks are easy too.. only on avg 5 questions, + if you pass, you get full marks ^^ and she tries to make exams easy to finish so it's test of knowledge, not writing speed ^^
There are very few people who didn't get burned on her first midterm, but always presents things extremely clearly. Great demonstrations!
This is a totally "aceable" class if you keep up with the work and know your stuff. Prof. Topper is very clear and explains things really well if you have questions. Weekly assignments help to keep you on track.
the amount of effort she puts into her lecture slides is commendable. Always willing to help too!
Great Prof - keeps class interactive, lots of relevant examples, always answers questions in lecture and afterwards, fair assessment. Keep on top of the homework and you can ace the course!
Awesome work!
This professor is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is funny and actually cares about her students' grades/understanding. Keep up the good work! She makes me wish I were taking physics again.
very good prof, lots of demonstrations and really cared about her students. very quick but clear, it's just that physics is such a hard topic, but she really did a great job.
wetsuit- great teacher!!!
Her examples are very helpful, and I love the way she does her notes for class.
she explains all the concepts very well and really wants her students to do well. She has a cool accent too.
Teaches concepts from scratch, so even without any physics background, you learn fast

Very helpful and great teacher all 'round =D
I took this course in the spring with absolutely no physics background and found she was able to explain new concepts very clearly and efficiently. She was also willing to take the time to help individuals out with specific problems they were struggling with.
I really don't like physics at all, but Topper made it as good as physics could have been...
I like how she teaches concepts first and then actually gets you working by concluding class with problems to apply the concepts. She explains everything in ways that anyone can understand. I also love her quirky sense of humor. Her tests are very challenging though...there are no give-away type questions...practice tutorial and hw q's beforehand
Good prof, bad course. She has an interest in the material. When it came downt to the end, she doesn't round course marks up unless they're higher than 48 so do good.
Absolutely amazing teacher! Very fun, funny, and patient. Slides and lectures are very clear...i never read the textbook and i did great. Very patient and helpful when you are lost; may be frank when you make "silly" mistakes, but you get it in the end.
Physics isn't the most interesting subject out there, but Prof Topper is very amusing:). She makes Physics fun
Not the hardest course, the finals are way easier than the midterms.
The labs are killer. You will be there for the full 3 hours! The course itself is good though. If you took physics in high school the entire first half is review and easy! Topper explains the topics well even the harder stuff second term.
Really good prof, very helpful, I hated physics in high school but she made it really good. The midterm and dec exam are not easy but there not hard either. As long as you can do the hw/tutorial assignments and the practice exams you will do good. The labs will take 3 hours and the TAs wont give you an extra minute and some mark really hard
Great prof! Explains things clearly, goes through old exams in class and has a demonstration almost every lecture. Keeps things interesting and answers questions well.
very helpful if you ask questions..Also, she's encouraging especailly answering questions. Rarely say that you're absolutely wrong to the question..
unreal
makes physics at least a little bit interesting
She actually made me feel like I had a future in physics. But I didn't really, seeing as how 107 is a terminal course.
Very clear, very helpful. Excellent example-based learning. Has a great attitude even though shes teaching a bunch of kids who dont care about physics (in 107 at least). And very friendly to talk to
An amazing professor. When I first entered Queen's, I had absolutely no interest in physics whatsoever - but with her applicable examples, useful slides, and helpful nature, I really learned a lot and want to learn more!
Very good prof, makes physics fun and tolerable. Her notes are simple and to the point, she also explains concepts very well.
I used to hate physics, but she makes physics very enjoyable with the demonstrations and her little quirks like the physics monkey and the physics hippo.
Amazing prof! Great demos in class and super nice/easy to talk to in office hours. I actually enjoyed going to this class!
Amazing professor!!! She made physics enjoyable and interesting. Perfectly comprehensible.
A lot of people like her, but I don't. She is very very boring and unclear when presenting and her slides are intended to be used by 5 years old with pictures of ducks and bears and stuff. I feel like I'm in kindergarten with this TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE PROFESSOR! Good exam though.
By far my favourite professor this year. I didn't like physics at all going into first year, Dr. Topper managed to make everything more interesting
Great prof! Very helpful and tolerant even to ridiculous questions. Labs are designed for interest mostly, and are not difficult. If you are decent at math and go to class, you can get 90's for sure.
She is so funny in a cute way. She can only be one of the best profs I've ever ever met.
I can rant on for hours about how she can only be the best prof ever.
Great prof. Very helpful if you actually go to her office hours. Exams are super fair if you pay attention and listen in class. The labs are pretty straightforward. If you have taken 4U physics, this is basically just a review with a few more topics covered.
She was one of the profs that everyone raved about going into first year, and she was good but not quite as AMAZING as everyone said. Uses fun props to demonstrate concepts and not difficult exams (especially if you've taken physics before).
Not extremely clear in class. Difficult to follow even in an intro physics course. Makes the material harder than it should be.
She is tough and is a terrible teacher.
Topper's lectures are confusing and her exams are quite tricky (not to mention out of few marks, meaning that you have less wiggle room to make mistakes).
She did not explain her thought processes clearly and assumed you knew exactly why she was doing what she was doing
She is approachable and does good experiments in lecture that help increase the understanding of the content. Her powerpoint examples make sense and what we are evaluated on is fair compared to examples from lecture. Sometimes she makes lots of algebra mistakes (usually Fridays) so don't blindly write down everything she does without thinking!
I loved topper, she's a great teacher and a hilarious person overall. Be prepared for examples using toys, including her favourite rubber duck.
Anne make me feel bad at phyqs. Prefer to live in ignorance. no need for meanieness. duck cute tho
The most childish prof I've had to date; I literally feel the need to leave every time she uses that stupid duck. The quizzes were extremely challenging, but they were online so you could work with others-otherwise you would run out of time. She writes solutions to problems once, and never revisits them so you're lost at the end of the semester.
A very solid prof. Her sense humour, often awkward, was entertaining. She is very fair in her expectations, and her testing was very reasonable. Provides an ample number of examples during lecture, and many resources from which to study. Her exam was a breeze and one of the easier ones in first year. Speak to her if you need help, she's very nice
She is very confusing.
Very sweet professor that cares about her students. Unfortunately she can't translate this into effective teaching. One of worst lecturers I had in first year.
I once saw this prof in the LCBO with two 2L bottles of wine and it made me laugh because that's exactly what I needed to make it through any one of her lectures. A peer of mine asked a question during an exam and she thought it was funny enough to share with our entire supersection the following day. If you see the name topper RUN!
She was really helpful as a student coming in with no physics background at all.
Good Prof, Goes a little fast sometimes but i learned a lot
One of the best profs I had first year! She has a real genuine caring for her students. As someone who didn't start the course off on the best foot she was always very reassuring that we would be alright which felt really good. I ended up going from an F on my first midterm to ending the course with an A-!
My experience with PHYS 117 was definitely enhanced by having Prof. Topper! The course had the potential to be difficult for those who have never taken physics before. However, all the material needed to learn it were available. Prof. Topper is approachable, quirky, engaging, and available outside of lecture to answer questions. Definitely cared.
Topper was my favourite prof in second year. She is kind, which is honestly hard to find in physics upper year courses (where a lot of profs are incredibly condescending). Being a female and having Topper as my professor gave me hope in a class with 5% women. She answered every question, numerous times, with the same amount of kindness and clarity
She is a great person. Very caring and quirky which makes lectures interesting. However, she doesn't really care if you don't have much of a physics background, she rushes through topics. She also only does the examples herself and you just copy what she wrote, which isn't the best way to learn physics in my opinion.
Very poor lecturer. Does not care about students. Boring classes.
Anne is a great prof who really cares about her students. She is a great teacher and will end the lecture early if she has gotten through all of the slides. Her quizzes are fair and the exam is fairish. Make sure you study really hard for the exam and you should be able to do relatively well.
Not a fan of physics at all but I definitely feel lucky that I had Topper! Moves VERY fast but usually there's time at the end of term where she'll review challenging concepts. She's nice for sure
I absolutely despise physics and only didn't do alot of extra studying for it. Topper is a G
cant wait for my examity examity exam hehe
Professor Topper is an amazing professor! She always replies to her emails and her passion for physics and desire to help everyone in the class succeed is inspiring. Her quizzes are a bit tricky and the exam was also a bit hard but if you study you shouldn't have a problem.
After seeing all of Anne Topper's reviewing on here I was really excited to take her course since I was completely new at Physics. However, this year her class was AWFUL and anyone I've talked to agrees. I've had my emails straight up ignored, barely any office hours or reviews, hard to follow lectures, non-flexible, the "help" you get is laughable
Terrible pre-recorded lectures, no help when questions are asked, only "guidance".. meaning it makes you MORE CONFUSED than you were before. No explanation as to where values are being pulled from the lectures, just TERRIBLE PROF and course!!
Girlboss.
Professor Topper is amazing. She is approachable and caring, and will always accommodate her students and support them along the way. Make sure you stay on top of the material and not fall behind. The exams and quizzes were hard but if you do the homework, extra practice and end-of-chapter problems every week you will get an A+.
I love my queen. She is so lovely i have an almost spiritual connection to her. Dr. Anne Topper makes me truly enjoy first year physics. I feel almost tempted to take 116 so i can see her amazing face. I love ducky
I love this woman. She is clearly passionate about what she teaches and does it in an engaging way which is great because my attention span is nonexistent. The only bad things about the course is the weighting of the exams which is 75% overall, but this also has the plus of the course not being assignment heavy
I love topper. She was always so full of joy and her examples were always entertaining. Some witty jokes thrown in mid lecture to keep you on your toes. The content is heavy if you have never taken physics before but as long as you ask questions and do all the practice you should be okay :)
Dr. Topper is very enthusiastic about what she teaches and can make physics enjoyable, i just suck at the subject but she definitely is good at her job!
Love topper, one of the best profs I had all year. I hate physics but she was a great teacher and explained things well. Exam is worth 60% which is lame.
She is an excellent teacher. Physics was never my cup of tea in high school but she makes it so much easier. She wants you to succeed as she makes the midterms easy and the final exams relatively easy as well. She is so sweet.
Physics is known to be a hard course but Topper explains very thoroughly and you can tell she is very knowledgeable. She cares about you understanding and you can confidently go up to her and ask for a one-on-one so she can explain things to you even more in depth after lectures.
I took ZERO physics classes in high school, so this class was most definitely a challenge. I don't like how the entire grade is dependent on your midterm/final score. However, I found them to be pretty fair - not too difficult, but not super easy. Definitely easier if you have a background in the course. Study the weekly homework/tutorials!
Topper is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about her students. Her lectures were super useful as she would go through concept problems that were similar to ones on homework and exams. I never took physics in highschool and also missed the first week in this course, but I still scored above 90s on the midterm and final. Good luck!
I took grade 11 physics and was really scared for this course however Topper made it a breeze. As long as you pay attention in class and practice you should easily do well. The major issue was exam and midterm accusatively take 75% if your grade, however, they were both very basic questions as long as you understand how to apply formulas.
The only problems with PHYS 115 were the labs (which she was not very involved in). The structure of her course is amazing and incredibly easy to follow. I am in PHYS 116 now, a course she wrote but is not teaching, and it's still great. Her lectures are also engaging, well-structured, and she makes them accessible through recordings/textbook.
Great prof, material was easy to understand and well explained. Prof was caring and understanding, the exam was fair and not too hard as long as you put in time. Do keep in mind that there are marks for class participation. Would take again.
Great prof!
Topper responded in about 5 minutes any time I had a question which was very helpful because I never took physics before and did it during the summer. I found the online mod videos very useful especially when tied with the textbook.
Dr Topper genuinely cares about her students - she explains concepts relatively well, is super helpful, fast to respond to doubts, and her exams reflect what she covers in the classes. Not the easiest subject to teach, but Dr Topper does it quite well !
Great prof. Super kind, funny, and her lectures were engaging. The concepts are tricky but she makes them easy to understand. She also records her lectures so you can watch them at your own pace. The midterm and final exams were also pretty fair; all the questions were the same level of difficulty as what you'd expect from homework & lectures.
Great prof! Very clear, lectures went through a lot of examples. If you do better on the final, midterm gets reweighted, but the midterm was way easier, so don't plan on it. Homework questions were harder than test questions. If you have questions, she's really helpful when answering. If you took physics in high school, PHYS115 will be a breeze.
was humbled by BOTH exams but she was lowk chill
Did I eat the final or did the EXTREMELY HEAVILY WEIGHTED final eat me...
Great prof and easy class if you took physics in high school
Professor Topper was a really great prof. She's extremely fair and is an excellent lecturer. Her exam and midterm were both easier than the homework, so if you put in the time to actually do some practice you'll be fine. A lot of the people giving her bad ratings here sound like they just didn't put in the work and are upset about their poor grade.
goated prof man
Anne is a great prof but the material could be a little difficult if you have never taken phys before. The midterms were quite difficult but the homework and labs were pretty each (only 4 labs in the whole course).
Really great prof! Phys 115 is a bit tough if you haven't taken high school physics (like me), but I really think she does a great job with teaching the material. She has fun demonstrations that genuinely help build an understanding of concepts. The exams are heavily weighted, but fair. Do loads of practice and you'll do fine.
straight forward lectures, not super hard exams and midterm, engaging prof! she has fun examples that she does in class and she lowk has a soothing voice lmao. love her so much im taking physics again next semester! 100% recommend
She is such a sweet angel from heaven and i could have not been more blessed to have been taught physics (even tho i dont rly like it) by her. she is a great teacher and very engaging. you are guaranteed to understand the concepts of physics from her as long as you pay attention in lecture.
the prof is SOOO nice and engaging!! the content's hard if you didn't take physics, but if you pay attention and spend time to understand the content outside of class then you will do good. the midterm and final were wayy easier than any of the homework, so if you understand those you're good.
She's very engaging and teaches very well! Physics itself was quite difficult, but she gave a lot of resources and was always open to questions. Midterm was much harder compared to the final, but overall was one of the better professors for first year life sciences and biochemistry students.
Really good prof also had her for PHYS 116. She's super friendly and nice, her lectures are very straightforward and clear and the tests are very fair. Was quite a bit to study for (obviously it's a physics class) but she made it manageable. Just don't forget to do the Qlicker questions if you miss lectures 10/10 would take again
If you haven't taken a lot of physics the content is hard, but she does a decent job explaining it. I found her to be a bit demeaning outside of class which made it difficult to reach out with questions. 75% of the grade being in the midterm and final was brutal, but both exams were relatively reasonable and good resources were provided for both.
