If you've taken chemistry at UC, you know the profs don't care about teaching one bit. But she actually makes an effort to help you if you put forth the effort. She's not actually in the chemistry department, but is better quality than any of the actual chem profs.

Dr. Vonderheide is not a fan of memorization, so her teaching steers away from it. Until I had Dr. Vonderheide, I've never had a prof (especially in the chem dept) who has been so learning focused - she made the class this summer so easy that it made the TA's envious. Take her and you won't regret it!

I absolutely loved her! I've never understood chemistry so well as this summer's class with her. She let us have notes for tests and quizzes. She's very willing to help you understand things if you make an effort. Take her!!!

Very easy teacher. Lets you use cheat sheets on the exams and tested over what is on the powerpoints. Haven't opened my book yet. Also very lenient with making up missed quizzes and exams. Definitely recommended.

She is the best chem teacher ever; she does it "for fun." She does the work for you and bases her ppts on the final and the main points. She's so friendly and really works with her students so that they do well in the course. She also almost got fired for teaching us about things on the block final that weren't in our book. In a word, dedicated.

Very learning based, not on memorization. She actually cares if her students do well not like the other chem profs. If you actually try you will get a B or higher. Highly recommended.

I suggest is taking chemistry, take her.. Cheat sheet for exams, a lot easier than sprague. Go to class and pay attention, and do practice problems and there is no reason you shouldn't get an A, she'll do what he can to help you understand the concepts.

BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER

Vonderheide is a great professor. If necessary, you can miss a few classes. The book is not needed, but you do need the online access code. Do all the homework and extra credit because the exams are somewhat challenging. She will help you if you are struggling so don't be afraid to ask. Attend SI because they are extremely helpful.

Is the best teacher that I have had so far at UC. She is always communicating when she will be at her office and urges you to come ask questions whenever you need to. She cares so deeply about her students and is a great teacher and person. Take her if you can!!

Great professor, does whatever she can to help students and makes sure everyone understands before she moves on. Ask questions if you don't understand and get the help it is available for you.

She is a great professor who really wants all of her student to do well. She makes office hours as much as she can and is willing to help you pull up your grade. You will have homework every night but its just a few questions. Exams are pretty tough but she does her best to prepare you. It is a VERY VERY fast paced class so pay attention!

She was an amazing professor, honestly one of the best I've ever had. She was clear in all of her lectures and if you didn't understand something, she was always willing to answer any sort of questions anyone had. Had easy homework assignments and tests were okay for the most part. Very helpful teacher who definitely cares about her students.

She is a great person and wants to help but tests are not easy. Homework is completion but if you don't know what you're doing in the homework, tests will be a lot harder. She makes lots of time for office hours to come get help. Be ready to work for an A though.

The 5 wk summer class was tough, and very fast paced. U need to go to all classes and take good notes. She provides helpful PowerPoints and is always willing to help the class out and help students understand what's going on. Tests were tough, but she gives extra problems and practice exams to help study for the exams. Overall good instructor.

She is the sweetest person. She really hopes for your success and thats huge. Class is simple, but you need to attend. There are plenty of resources to use, tons of example tests, as well as the lecture pps. Homework is done for completion, lots of easy points. Take advantage of any extra credit while you can.

Dr. Vonderheide is great; however, this class was very disorganized. A lot of students left halfway through lectures. She will prepare you well for her exams though. You will do well in this course if you have any chemistry background. None of the info taught was new to me. Extremely friendly professor and will help you if you attend office hours.

This was my absolute favorite class as a first year student! I would definitely take her class again. The setting is very laid back, she jokes around, but is also there to help you if you dont understand a concept.

Online classes are tough, but Professor Vonderheide went above and beyond. She had a million office hours and was always willing to help. Closest thing to the real classroom.

This class is definitely not easy, but Dr. Vonderheide is always willing to meet up with students if they need anything. I have this online because of COVID, so she posts lectures on Canvas and has an optional class on Webex. You can make a cheat sheet for each exam and there's always extra credit. If you study and go to class you'll be fine!

She is very helpful and it shows that her number one interest is to help us succeed. She is fair and understanding and gives great feedback along with extra credit.

O-chem is very challenging. I enjoyed her passion for the subject. It made a difference and made online learning bearable.

Any bad reviews Vonderheide got is because she caught a bunch of cheaters on the last exam and they set out to get her because she gave them zeroes on the test. The unbelievable part is that she allowed us a cheat sheet. And we could put anything on it. But that wasnt good enough for them. They wanted to be able to google all the answers.

Dr. V is such a great professor, and super easy to talk to. You can tell she really cares about her students, and is always available to help. The class is difficult so you have to put in work to do well. Homework is an easy A if you watch the lectures, and helps boost your grade. She gives EC after every exam. If you try, you will pass the class.

This class is an easy class to help improve your grade. Dr. Vondeheide would give extra credit after every test to help you boost your score by correcting your mistakes on the prior tests. However, please be prepared that you'll have a lot of homework to do. Tests are mostly similar to practice.

This Professor is super. You need to go to class but she allows a cheat sheet for exams. Not sure how the student below got a D+ with open book exams, but contrary to what she wrote, there were lots of examples and practice in the lectures. Maybe she didnt know because she didnt go. Explains the D+! Also willing to meet any time for help.

Dr. V is an amazing person, she is my only professor that responds to my emails and any questions so quickly. The tests are difficult but as long as you do the mock exams and go to review sessions you will get by, there is also a large amount of extra credit given in her class.

This class is very difficult and i had a failing grade on every exam except 1 and ended with a B. Dr. Vonderheide gives amazing lectures that were very helpful it was just that chemistry was not my thing. She understands that most students in the class are just trying to pass and gives lots of extra credit to help you succeed.

Dr V is one of the best professors I've had! Her lectures are so well taught and I learn a lot, she always makes it interesting too! The tests can be tough but she gives extra credit/ corrections because she wants everyone to do well. She always finds time outside of class for her students and it is so appreciated, 10/10 recommend!

Dr.V is one of the nicest ladies you will meet. She gives so much extra credit after the exams and she wants everyone to do well in her course. The practice exams are very similar to the real exams. The final exam is kind of hard because its cumulative, standardized, and not made by her. The best advice I have is make sure you actually go to class!

Vonderheide is the perfect example of a college professor. She simplified complex ideas. She never came to class with a bad attitude. She has been the finest university faculty member I have yet to interact with.

I am only writing this review to say that the last comments obviously came from a poor student. They should maybe try English 101 next semester in an effort to brush up on basic grammar. Dr. V is awesome and most helpful. She wants us to succeed in becoming outstanding nurses.

I do not disagree with the person below saying she is condescending at times when answering questions. She does want her students to succeed. My advice for people taking biochem for nursing, GO GO GO to SI sessions. They are beyond helpful. I received a B on an exam where the average was a D and I only got that grade through SI sessions.

She certainly has a passion for chemistry and for helping her students and I could not have asked for a better professor! It is a fast-paced course, but she taught the material in a way that makes sense.

Only professor I felt like cared about us, she made a lot of efforts to accommodate everyone in the class. Offered optional review sessions for those passing and those failing had to attend. Her class was hard but one of the most understanding kind professors ever.

A difficult and fast-paced course, however, Professor V. cares about each student and wants them to succeed. Exams aren't multiple choice and are all written response, but as long as you know how to solve the problem she will give full credit. Lectures are extremely helpful, and so are the 8:00 a.m. recitations. Please go to the recitations. I missed a few and ended up not understanding some of the material. She tells you the topics that are going to be on the exam prior. IF she tells you she's not testing you on something, she's not. She's very true to her words and also very helpful.

A great professor. She's very accessible and forgiving with her grading. However there's a LOT of homework and it's so much harder than what's covered in class. Also be prepared for no tools on the Final other a periodic table. Overall she's a really nice prof. and if you truly go to class and pay attention you should be fine.
