Mrs. Wiedderecht was a wonderful teacher but expects you to preform college level work and no excuses. Keen on participation and reading the material. Has quick quizes and the required reading. Nice person.
Great teacher!!! Really enjoyed this class. Expect to work hard for good grades and participation will most likely be expected but she never makes one feel bad for a wrong answer. Highly recommended if you really want to learn!
Another awful teacher. She doesn't thoroughly go over material and worst of all she talks in a mono tone which makes the ability to learn almost impossible. If your paper is short by ONE sentence she won't even grade it. I suggest to everyone stay faraway
she is an ok teacher. very borring lecture, but all around decent teacher. lots of hard work, and the text book sux really bad because of all the required reading.
It was hard for me to get an "A" in her class cuz we read a couple chapters, then got quizzed on it before we were lectured on it. I guess that was her way of making sure we read. I need a lecture before I'm tested. Nice lady, though.
she was the worst teacher i've ever had....too much works ..all essays have to be written in perfect grammar...
this was the worst teacher i've had. do not sign up w/her. she wants everything to be perfect. she refused my whole paper, wouldnt even read it because the margin for the heading was not correct.other reasons too but she is not interested in you succeding
She is so boring! Too many essays w/ too much emphasis on document setup rather than content. She wants a 4-page paper from a 1-page essay about some obscure person not mentioned anywhere else in the book. Her lectures? Too many "ummm.."s & she can't answer a lot of your questions.
I was 15 when I took her class. That was five years ago. I had 100% until the end. I wrote a final paper for her and forgot to double space so she failed me. After everyone handed in their papers, she handed mine back in front of everyone with a big red F on the cover. Only F paper I've ever had.
a few ways to earn xtra credit, but everything in the class is hard, and the papers are graded like an english teacher. lots of work each week for the night class
She is SO boring. The assignments are way to hard. She is way to demanding with how everything is supposed to be- she fails you if things aren't double spaced. Not a good teacher at all.
I only went to approx. 5 classes, so my opinion may not be very well informed. She was a bit uptight & I didn't feel comfortable approaching her for any questions.
You have to be prepared for this class. Do the readings, study for the tests, and complete the papers. Two out of the four tests are in groups, and you get to take some quizzes with partners. Only take this class if you want to learn and don't take it if you're looking for an easy class.
She was so smart and gave awesome lectures. She helped thoroughly with questions that students had and is a nice lady.

The MOST boring class I have ever taken. I've always loved history, but she killed it.

Unreasonable
when you talk about a hard class this one would come up in the subject. Ok i did all the extra credit did better than most on the tests and my buddy and i got up and sang a song with our guitars infront of the whole class for extra credit and we still only got a B and not to mention we talked alot in the class and i think i only missed 2 classes
Tough class, but fascinating. I thought she was a fine teacher. Calling her boring may just be confusing the subject matter with the teacher if you don't want to do the work and keep up.
this class was so boring i wanted to shoot myself after 3 weeks.....i had to drop the class cuz i couldnt deal with that bull...sooooo boring

Extremely boring, like everyone else said. She doesn't teach, she babysits. This class is taught not by the teacher, but by reading the whole text book.
The class was a lot more work than a lot of the other classes I have taken. The teacher is knowlegeable but can be very boring and not the most personable person in the world.
She is BORING. Gives you absolutely no motivation. I would recomend taking a different teacher if you can
Hard...quizzes, tests, papers...you better have time to work if you want to take this class
this teacher does know her history but she is sooooooo hard she gives to much work for one person her test are mostly essays and she wants you to remeber things from four chapters back to write a paper on not only that this isnt an english class it is history i could understand it better if it was a english class. so if you take her be prepared
She is so fantastic!!! Anyone who whines about how difficult her class is may not be prepared for college. She is a true college professor and doesn't feel the need to have to hold your hand and tell you every answer. She is an extremely interesting lecturer and is very knowledgable. She will help you and empower you to reach your full potential.
Boring and a lot of work. I did well but it took a lot. Weekly quizzes, papers, an group project. Eh, she didn't get my interest.
this class was very confusing and so was she. she actually sounds like a bird. if you have to take her for some odd reason (and i wouldn't)DO NOT take her at night!
She is a very good teacher. She involves students in lectures daily and is always willing to make time for questions if not in class the she will schedule an appt. The only thing is she does require alot of reading and homework. Weekly essays, weekly assessments, weekly analyic questions, 15 pg. research paper and two tests.
uses the book. reading is not hard. she gives essay tests. you are also required to write about 6 papers in the class. boring.
Terrible! teaches from her mind. then test and quizzes on the book. Completely pointless lectures and not clear on assignments and extremely hard on her grading. Woman Has Issues!
every one seems to think shes a bad teacher, but shes not, she was extremely helpful and very smart. shes a great history teacher, and of course the class is going to be hard, its history, come on people
worst teacher ever! lectures are so boring..she talks in a monotone voice!..test are hard! failed the class dont recommend her at all!!!
i think her class is very involved, but she is truely a great teacher. i loved her, shes always willing to help, all you got to do is ask!
Anne is a normal teacher. She isn't incredibly exciting or energetic. She speaks in a low intensity voice which at times can become uninteresting. She often breaks up the class into groups for projects and demands interaction from her students. At best I would say that she is an average teacher.
The Teacher is very hard
This teacher is a toughie. You really need to pay attention to the syllabus and do exactly what it says. She is one of those teachers that wants you to write what she thinks. Learn her style for writing and you'll get an A. This class was probably the most difficult class I have ever taken. Take this class at your own risk.
I think that Wiederrecht is a nice teacher. This is my first real college class (I took AP in high school) and I expected a super mean teacher, but she is SO nice. I like her alot. Really, as long as you read and study, you're totally fine. My English teacher in high school was stiff like her, so I'm used to the grammar and margins. Its not that ba
If she is (debatably) dry, she is also totally up-front about EVERYTHING expected of her students. Read the syllabus, do the essays, attend class prior to the test for the essay questions you will need to cover, study for the tests and you will ace her class. Also, spot the other students pulling their weight for the group test options.
Interesting material, but lectures tend to make yawns appear. Unless you are comfortable with talking a lot and possibly being the only one to talk, I DO NOT reccommend this class for you. The reading is very time consuming, as most history classes are. She is a tough grader, but offers a lot of EC.
She is extremely booooring. For those that are interested in history she will change you mind, for those that aren't she will only make it worse. She is not willing to help out when asked.
she is boooring and not helpful. grading is really odd..i got an A in english and yet my essays barely get a c in her class. offers no positive critiques. if you liked history before her class you will hate it after!
This is an ok class. She lectures to her hearts content and only sometimes involves the students. On top of that, the lecture is pretty dry and not all that entertaining. That being said, I'm still a history major. She won't turn you off the subject but she does make history seem like that super boring class from the movies.
Excruciatingly boring and ridiculously difficult class. When I registered for B1 and read the course description I was ecstatic. But she made history truly "a thing of the past." No joke. She grades awkwardly, I am a great writer but she makes it seem like I'm not. Way too much reading, hard ass tests and boring lectures. I got an A but dunno how.
i hate this class.reason :she makes you do papers as it was for an english course, boring(talks nonstop),not approachable, makes a test worth(10 points) that requires you to read the whole chapter(20 pgs.no kidding!),she may not realize that people attending her class is not a history major but rather people who need it for their prerequisite.
I knew after the first day that I was most likely going to fail her class. She is extremely hard. She will lecture on the chapter you already quizzed on! So listening to her lecture is quite unbearable and to me somewhat pointless.
Dont take her she teach's like we are majoring in her class at UCLA or something Very very hard im going to fail this class
Wow!! extremly hard class because of the way she teaches.. she acts like everyone has studied history all thier lives.. the only positive thing is she gives you all the information up front in her syllabus, if you do not like history this will affirm it if your looking for a challenge take her class because its set up so you can fail..
very easy very boring. the material is interesting so hopefully that will keep you from killing yourself.
I took her class a few years ago and she is still by far the worst professor. She grades way too hard. Every essay I had to write in her class was reviewed by my sister who is a teacher and she said they were all A or B papers. I received a D on one and C's on the rest. I would never recommend this teacher. Jason Stratton should be taken instead.
I took Ann a few semesters ago, and after reading some of these reviews I felt I needed to defend my old prof. Ann is a wonderfully knowledgeable history professor who attended an excellent college (Smith), and while her style may perhaps be a bit on the dry side, she is a veritable fount of knowledge. I learned a lot in this class and recommend it
Very Very hard teacher. I like history but this teacher is very boring. Yes she knows her stuff, she is very smart in this subject, but again very boring. It is hard to stay awake. Take good notes for the quizes remember names. For her test she will give you about 5 possible questions for each chapter and about 5 chapters per test, very hard!!!
I'm a history major, and I've taken two of her classes. Be prepared, people, you will have to work for an A in her class. I worked VERY hard to receive two B's, BUT I know why I didn't get A's. You must do EVERY assignment, including all 4 tests, plus the substitute for a test. On the bright side, I honestly learned the material.
This by far the worst class I have ever had. The teacher is dull, and doesn't actually teach you anything. On top of that, she expects you to write anywhere from 4-6 five paragraph essays per test. I highly recommend not taking this class. If you like history, she may very well ruin the subject for you. STAY AWAY
Class is very difficult and requires you to study. Ann is honest in her syllabus and recommeds a reading level of at least a five and writing eligibility for ENGL 1. She had challenged me to work hard so I pass the class rather than drop it because I am too lazy. History is not my thing, but I know I will have to put in more effort to pull off a B.
She is a very boring teacher. She lectures a lot and talks a lot about herself. The only good thing about her is that she engages the students in discussion. Also, she give A LOT of busy work. At least 2 sections to read & homework every night and a huge research project. I did well in the class but there were only 7 students left in class at the en
Hardest teahcer i've ever had at BC. She is nice, but her class is no joke!
I'm gonna keep this short, sweet and to the point. This is hands down the worst professor I have ever taken in my life, she is boring, her lectures are horrid, and her weekly quiz is a joke. Who ever gave her a teaching degree should be fired.
I have never read so much garbage. This is college, people! Anne was a great teacher. If you attempted to actually study and do the work, you would have done fine. If you really want to learn, I would highly recommend her class. If you are looking to skate...go take a pottery course.
She is a horrible teacher, very hard and does not teach until after you read 60 pages which is a chapter then you take a quiz then she lectures. I suggest anyone but her. There is no notes allowed and its all by the book. plus she has no since of humor LOL
man i love history but anne does not make it fun... i study at least 8 hours a week and it is still not enough..youll work your ass off and maybe get a c grade
this is a very hard class! I do promise though when your done you will have a clear understanding of the time period. Dont take a full load when you take this class. I take 20 pages of notes per chapter.
Took her for ancient civ. As a history major, I really wanted to enjoy this class. It was awful. She grades her exams ridiculously hard and no answer is ever "what she's looking for." I barely got a B. I'm sure she's a nice lady but I don't think she enjoys teaching this class. Don't take it.
Very hard class. You read the chaper(60pg.long) Take a quiz and then after the quiz, she talks about the chp. weekly quiz. 2 major papers, 4 test no notes, 15 quizes notes allowed but it takes like 20 pages of note even cover the chp. Great teacher though. Would not recommed this class on a full load
She is a tough teacher. In order to receive barley a B, you MUST study every night and take GOOD notes for her quizzes.5 chapter tests with 8 essays in them! study study study! Do the extra credits and make ups for tests. Participate and write good essays... I barley got a B. everyone else barely passed... MUST STUDY HARD!!!
Do not take this class. Randal Beeman is a much better instructor. His class is enjoyable and informative...
HARDEST CLASS I EVER TOOK. YOU MUST READ ECH CHAPTER, READ IT AT LEAST TWICE, YOU MUST REALLY UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. TAKE VERY GOOD NOTES WILE YOU READ. THERE IS A QUIZ ON EACH CHAPTER EVERY WEEK, YOU CAN USE YOUR NOTES.((FOR THE EXAMS FOCUS ON HER OVERHEAD NOTES)). READ, READ, READ THE CHAPTERS. VERY HARD CLASS. I BARELY MANAGED A B
She is a coldhearted non-compassionate annoying woman who grades too hard, and has nothing better to do but to find all the mistakes in your tests, quizzes, essays during her free time
Hated it the day I walked in. Does not explain well. Took quizzes before discussing ch. Chapters were like 20 pages long too. Grades hard made me dislike history! Took lots of notes and didnt even help me out. Class is really boring. Nice teacher but still boring and doesn't teach well.. Wish I never signed up for class!!
I always thought I would hate History but after taking one of her classes I can't wait to take another!! Great Teacher! I worked HARD HARD but LOVED LOVED it!! If you are in college to learn this is the class for you!
Ann is kind-hearted but she isn't easy. She is exactly what a college professor should be. Firm, Kind and informed. If you are looking for an easy A this isn't a class for you. You will have to do work daily and read thoroughly. If you follow her syllabus you will pass the class. If you are interested in history and want to learn Take Ann.
super hard class.lots of reading, notes, essays, sleepless nites, 10 pgs of notes 4 a quiz should be good. about 30 for a test. 12 essay questions for every test and only 4 of 12 will be on test so study all of them and each essay answer is 4-5 paragraphs long. notes on quiz allowed but not on test. prepared me for college pretty much Great teacher
TERRIBLE TEACHER!! She assigns the reading and gives the test BEFORE she lectures on it, which is pointless! i want a teacher to teach me, not teach myself! So if you dont understand the reading you are screwed! her lectures have nothing to do with the topics! She seems real nice but a lousy teacher! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Ann really will make you a better student. She is a hard grader but fair. Everything that is going to be on all the tests is told to you from day 1, the catch is only 50% of it will actually show up on test day. If you want to learn history and become a better student take her. If you want an easy A dont, you will have to work for your grade.
Outstanding teacher, I highly recommend taking one of her courses if you intend to learn the material covered. Every page in the textbook will be covered, and she requires you to not ANALYZE and actually think about what you are learning. Not for the faint of heart or for someone looking for an easy A. So far Ann is my favorite teacher here at BC
She is by far the hardest Professor at BC. I recommend anyone else but her. She likes her quizzes to be answered from a historian's point of you and she is a hard grader. Her exams are horrid and people dropped like flies after the first one. Even the most knowledgeable students got an F on the first exam. I do NOT recommend this professor.
Ann expects what the world outside of BC and K-12, excellence and your best effort. Life isn't easy, and when we get professional jobs people won't jump for joy over our mediocrity. It takes effort, excellence, and character to standout today. She's not being harsh on us; she's treating us with the respect and expectation that will lead us to win.
Worst class I have ever taken, I don't mind history at all, but this teacher made me hate it, she makes you write 4 essays for each test that have to be 5 paragraphs long and very detailed plus answer all the other questions in only 1 and a half hours! Wish I could write more, in short avoid this class! Positively DO NOT enroll! BOOM ROASTED!!!
She is a hard teacher! However very straight forward and lectures on what is on the exams. Loved her and her class! Would take another class with her.
Everything on the quizzes, tests, geo. and essays is in the book. Read all of it. Try not to study every single line; you will go mad. Take serious, succinct notes on each ch. She is a very nice teacher that can help you see diff points of view but don't hold your breath trying to write everything from lecture. Tough at first. Persevere. Good Luck
If you miss class you will miss lecture on a whole chapter. Also, she gave a chapter quiz very often once a week. Class participation matters and she will drop you is you miss more than 4 times. You need to read the book in order to pass and her tests are pretty tough. Her tests require mini essay answers.
In the beginning ASK her what she is looking for on her test this will remove a LOT of pain later. Her test mostly revolve around essay questions10-15 paragraphs per main test depending on the number of chapters covered. Chapter quizzes are weekly are are strictly vocab and geography. Two papers mandatory (6-8 pg ea) along with two group projects.
I passed this class with a B, why? Her tests were extremely hard, they're about 4-5 short essays you have to answer, and she'd gives you about 10 essays questions to choose from, in order to study, and that was narrowing it down. Do all of the homeworkessays, take notes-she allows those on the weekly quizzes, and get extra credit. You'll need it!
Ridiculous expectations. An hour and a half for a test with 4 5 paragraph essays plus multiple choicetrue false not enough time
She's a fantastic instructor who, as you will be able to tell, really enjoys the subject matter. Her tests are intense, and she expects detail, but if you read diligently you will pass every time. The text we had was interesting. There are videos, group projects, quizzes and lectures, but it never feels stale. After 16 weeks I wasn't bored once.
Wish I had known about this site before enrolling....
I've had her as a professor in the past. She means well & she's willing to help you, but her teaching style & what she expects are a lot more suitable for those that are history majors. If you want to become a historian, then she would be good for you.
The class is pretty easy if you are good at taking quizzes. Her lectures are completely useless but each class starts with a quiz that you are allowed to use your notes on. You do two analytical papers grading seems fair. 3 tests. 2group projects
Completely straight forward. Quiz for each chapter and you can use your notes. 3 lowest quizzes dropped 2 analytical papers that dont require outside research 3 tests, with the lowest of the first 2 dropped. Particpation final. Essentially free 10% Some misc. Points If you read/take notes you will pass. The class is dry but very straightforward
I am an A student and I struggled in this class. Originally the class was packed but by the time the first test came around it had dropped to less than 15 people. Her tests are impossible to pass(mainly detailed essay questions). She expects too much from her students and her lectures are extremely boring and uninteresting. Avoid this class!!
Prof. W's class is very reading and lecture heavy, so if you don't read the chapter/pay attention to lectures very well, you're going to have a hard time. Her quizzes/tests aren't anything unexpected because it's all vocabulary memorization. If you can't handle lectures or writing essays, I wouldn't rec this class.
Tough class way too much work, Its not worth taking . Its like 3 classes into 1.
Very nice person but very strict. She is old school in the way she teaches. Test are very hard and the essays are very hard as well. I'm an A student and this was probably one of the hardest classes I have worked for. It felt like 3 classes in one. Very very difficult. If you are not a dedicated student don't take her class. She knows her stuff!
This class felt like an actual college class. She is old-fashion but if you work for it you'll pass.
