She gives out tons of helpful info on lit for kids, K-3...it's the best ED class that I've ever had!

Lectures are extremely boring. She does powerpoint and basically just reads every slide word for word while you fill in lecture notes handed out by her. Projects are vague and you don't get to pick your own group ever, I think she wants there to be conflict to "make a better group". Still better than Yelsma for Group Problem Solving though!!
loved her, loved her, loved her. she is so understanding and efficient. always loved going to class and she is very relatable!
Ginny is a great person who really cares about students. The tests are a little tough, you have to be sure to study names. Overall, great class, and even greater professor. She's a must for all Com. students.
very flexible, and fun
Ginny is wonderful - a little scattered, but I agree with the other posts - she truly does care about her students. The work is easy - just need to stay on track.
she sets things on fire people! and drives fast! in baltimore, she taught me the beauty of the diana camera. cool and real gone.
She is amazing! The best teacher i have had yet at Western! She will up your grade if you attend class. She loves her students! and will be flexable with you! Just dont abuse the privlage!
Ginny was great, funny, entertaining, even on Friday mornings! She was a good teacher and lived breathed and talked leadership. She relates all concepts to you. Downsides are the exams are semi-difficult with up to 30 true false questions.
Ginny is one of the best part time instructors in the School of Communication. Extremely knowledgeable about leadership theory and has plenty of real world experience to back it up. A bit loopy...she often goes on tangents and loses the audience's interest. Ginny will go out of her way to help you out as long as you take initiative. Difficult tests
fun teacher. tons and tons and tons and tons of work. as long as you do it you will get an A with no problem. you work with your group every day. only tests are midterm and final. you need to study and know everything on her lecture notes to get an A.
LOVEE THIS TEACHER! Ginny is a wonderful teacher and really makes the effort to help her students. Buying the book is a must and there are tons of opportunities to turn in homework assignments. Take her if you can you wont be disappointed. Attendance is a must but she rewards you for it with extra credit.
She is a very good and helpful teacher! I want to take all of her classes.
Lectures were TERRIBLE. It was hard to follow her because she would go off on tangents without any clear direction in reference to the material. Reading the book was much easier than trying to listen to her lectures. Power points were not the best and not easy to studt from. I stopped filling in the blanks because the information on the slides
Ginny is very knowledgeable. She uses powerpoints, handouts and personal stories in each class. The book is a secondary resource. Tests use mult choice/fill in the blank/true/false and are rather hard. She is very understanding and will push things back if you feel overworked. Assignments are fun and useful for COM/FCS careers.
Ginny is one of my favorite teachers at WMU because I took this class with her. She knows the subject matter very well on both practical and semantic levels. She's the most helpful, understanding teacher I've ever had. She really does work for students, not just the University. And she's hilarious... "That's a technical term." Great teacher!
The class is exciting in the beginning since everyone is ready to learn about photography. Midway into the semester the class really gets annoying because she is very inconsistent and does not give instructions well at all. She's very scattered-brained some days and goes on in class about nothing sometimes. Take another professor if possible.
COM 3050 is the easiest class I have taken at Western. Ginny wings every single lecture and frankly sounds like she doesn't know what she is talking about. Attending her lectures is a pain because she thinks she is funny and is obsessed with using the words "framework" and "perspective" to describe things. Take this class because it is easy.
Ginny Gregory is hands down one of the best professors at WMU. Extremely helpful, SUCH an easy class, and always in a great mood. To top it off she always cancelled class, which is a plus.
Ginny's lectures are hard to follow and she says "from that perspective" roughly 40 times per lecture. I counted. She's a sweet person and I feel she is better suited for a profession other than teaching.
Online course. Very well layed out and Ms. Hamel is extremely helpful. She is more than helpful with guidelines and deadlines... even reminding students what is expected and when. Powerpoint lectures and online discussion boards are set up very logical and helpful in a way where students can learn not get lost in the mess. Would highly recommend.
Ginny is really kind and willing to help any student. However, she gets distracted pretty easily and some of the classwork we did was redundant and tedious. She tried to make this class fun and interesting, but it really wasn't, especially since it was a 9am. But hey, I got an A.
I enjoyed getting to know the people in my class. The class was easy, not much work outside of class besides meeting with the group.
No texting in class. Clicker quiz given throughout the class to make sure youre there. Assigned seating like were in 1st grade. In class activity every class is easy points. You could get by not buying the book we never use it, all powerpoint. Lots of cool video clips. Annette can get annoying, and is pretty closed minded for a com prof
She doesn't allow you to have your phones out in class, which I would understand however, her lectures are extremely boring. She also requires assigned seating along with having clicker quizzes and worksheets every class so attendance is mandatory. The class its self is not hard but make sure to read before class so you know the material.
Class was exceptionally boring and seems like less work than it is. It's mostly memorizing vocabulary and taking weekly iClicker quizzes in class.
This is my favorite professor! Her aggisnments and due dates are very clear, contents of the tests are gone over in class, and the course is pretty simple. That being said, in order for the class to be an easy one, you're going to have to do the reading- which is only a chapter a week. I recommend making flashcards for vocab while you read.
Professor Hamel is an amazing woman that loves her job! If for some reason you are struggling with something she is more than happy to meet with you and go over it. This was an eye opening class with easy papers. Definitely an easy class with a stellar instructor!
I was amazed at how easy this course was. Her lectures each week are short, write them down for the exams. Over the semester you have 3 discussion boards, 3 short papers, and one longer paper that's okay just don't procrastinate. Some weeks you don't even have homework. You do have to read a book though. Overall, it's not that bad. Easy A.
AMAZING!!!! I am taking her again for intercultural and recommend her to everyone. She super clear about what she expects. The books you have to read are interesting and you wanna read them. She is super funny, some her jokes might seem like a hit but dont be sensitive its in good fun clearly. Her test are what she teaches and her reviews help!!
Annette Hamel is very helpful and explains everything clearly. The exams and papers are graded very fairly and turned back to you the very next class period, which is very much appreciated. I found her to be very nice and helpful. Her class was easy to follow and she did everything to help students when they needed it. I recommend her to anyone.
Annette Hamel is very understanding about every student's busy schedule and allowed them to only miss two classes without penalizing their grade. The classes were easy and we only had to do three small papers stories and one long paper. Other than that, we watched videos and listened to her stories. I recommend taking any COM class she teaches.
Annette Hamel was an amazing professor that I have ever had. She was very laid back and was very lenient about what topics we could do our speeches on. As long as it fit the criteria, any subject was welcome. With a creative atmosphere, this became the most interesting class that I looked forward going to, even though I hated public speaking.
Annette Hamel was a really easy teacher. Although it was a boring topic, it was not a bad class. We would do discussion questions after each chapter, and a personal reflection on that chapter. Do the homework, it takes 10 minutes max. 10-point quizzes for each chapter, a midterm, and a final. She was also very lenient about late assignments.
Intercultural COM was one of my favorite courses I've taken. One draft due each week and a reading from the textbook and a few chapters of a text. The readings that can be done the day before too. She is a very generous grader and if you're unhappy with your grade, she gives you the opportunity to try to fix it. What a great course and professor.
Annette Hamel ROCKED! She brought her intellect, experiences, and emotional intelligence to the class and our studies. She was engaging, yet pushed students to voice their opinions on readings with supportive evidence. She allowed an open forum for discussions but also pushed students to think outside of the box. I recommend her classes to anyone!
Dr. Annette Hamel is very old school, but she is also a very intelligent and amazing professor! I love her passion for teaching and making us all engage as a class to talk about the readings. There are some pop quizzes in almost every class period, a midterm, a final, three small papers, and a long paper. They're really not bad! Take her!
Annette makes you work for a good grade, but it's a 4000 level class, what did you expect? The class is fascinating and she knows so much about the subject. Decent amount of homework, but if you do the readings- which you need to, the work takes 15 minutes most nights. Some papers, but she gives as much help as you ask for great feedback. 10/10
Dr. Annette Hamel really knows her material and is very willing to talk to you if you aren't understanding. There is quite a bit of homework, but she is very reasonable on deadlines and her grading isn't too tough. If you don't go to class, you will struggle. I learned a lot from this class and I really enjoyed the material that she provided.
Intercultural Communication is such a neat course and Annette Hamel is an awesome professor! Be warned that there are lots of readings. This course, although technically a Communication one, is taught within an autoethnographical framework. Write well, critically analyze the readings, and regularly participate in discussions. You will be rewarded.
Annette Hamel is a great instructor! She expects you to be there for every class and her exams cover everything she has lectured on plus the books. However, she does everything on PowerPoint and will make sure you have written all the notes down before she moves on. She wants you to do well and will happily explain things if you ask.
Intercultural Communication is most definitely a lecture class. Dr. Annette Hamel provides really good notes that they are easy to follow along during her lectures. There is a lot of reading, but the tests are mostly over the notes, which is really interesting! I would recommend her and this class for your upper-level COM elective requirement.
Outstanding professor and talented artist. She is a gem! I learned so much from her and I enjoyed every class.
I'm currently taking her for Intercultural Communication this semester and I find it pretty laid out. You could get by this class without the textbooks and gather the information you need online, especially when studying for the exams. Her assignments and grading criteria are pretty straightforward and easy to do. Just don't procrastinate on them.
Intercultural Communication with Dr. Hamel isn't too difficult. The coursework in her class has that high school feel to them, which isn't a bad thing if you're looking for some fairly easy classes to take. I recommend taking any COM class she teaches if you're needing to complete requirements or electives for your COM major or minor. Stellar prof!
I'm enjoying Intercultural Communication with Annette and recommend taking this class with her over anyone else teaching it. Her assignments and grading criteria are clear-cut and well laid out. Just be sure to complete them before they are due without procrastinating. Make flash cards when studying for the exams and you will do well on them.
I love Annette Hamel and Intercultural Communication and recommend her and this class to anybody needing easy classes no matter what major they have. She is upfront about what she expects and the coursework is easy to complete. Be sure to start on them right away or you will fall behind. Study guides for exams are also helpful, so make flash cards.
Annette Hamel is a very easygoing professor to have and I recommend you take any class she teaches before you graduate from Western. She is very straightforward with her class expectations and the grading criteria for the assignments is foolproof. Don't skip class, especially on Culture Code discussion days, or your grade will sink. Easy class ever
Dr. Hamel is alright and the course content is easy to digest, as long as you have the attention span to sit through over an hour of PowerPoint lectures each day. Although her classes can be a bit boring at times, they are not something to blow off. That said, don't skip class because she distributes iClicker quizzes at the start of each class.
Dr. Hamel is nice and all, but her lectures tend to drag for the entire class period. If you have the attention span to sit in class and listen for 75 minutes a day, you shouldnt have a problem with the iClicker quizzes. Otherwise, dont take this class with her. I recommend taking it online with another professor if possible. I give her a 5/10.
My first impression about Annette was that she was going to be unbearably strict due to the cold tone in her emails. But once the semester started and got to talk to her after class here and there, she turned out to be one of the few receptive professors Ive encountered. If youre needing easy COM courses, I recommend taking them with her.
Annettes online Leadership COM class is very laid out. Her lectures and grading criteria is very clear cut and straight to the point. If you need to take this class, take it with her. You wont be disappointed. The assignments and discussions are quite fun because youre not paired up with the same people for each discussion. A stellar professor.
Leadership COM is one of the best online classes I have ever taken and it's all because of this professor. I recommend taking it with her if you need it because her assignments are fun and easy to do. Be careful with the exam Qs because they are a little tricky and timed, but as long as you take really good notes, you shouldn't have a problem.
Leadership COM is a great online class to take, especially for an elective. This course was very laid out and the professor was very clear about what she expected from her students. But if, for any reason, you're having trouble understanding something, she is more than willing to meet with you during her office hours if you live nearby the area.
I love Annette and every class she teaches because she is clear about what she expects. I recommend you sign up for her classes before all the seats fill because she's amazing. Be sure to do the work and study and you will pass with an A or a B no problem. Some say she's boring, but I don't think so. She incorporates videos into her PowerPoints.
Annette is a sweet lady, but her lectures feel like there's no ending to them most of the time. If you're one of those people who has difficulty sitting through an entire class period listening to just lectures, you won't enjoy her classes. Also, don't skip because she distributes pop quizzes at the start of each class, so be sure to read the books
Annette is an okay professor, but I wish she broke up her lectures a bit so that classes aren't too boring. There are a few days where its group discussion days, and those days are usually fun. But most of time, it's all lectures through each class period. She doesn't like it when she sees phones out in the open or people packing before class ends.
Leadership COM online with Dr. Hamel is very easy and her instructions on the assignments are very clear. Whether it's required or an elective, I recommend taking it with her. There are several papers and discussion board posts throughout the semester, so be sure to stay on top of them or you will fall behind. Warning: exams are timed and tricky.
I have taken 3 classes with Annette Hamel and don't want to take them with anyone else. She is a great professor to have if you're needing some easier classes to take that don't have a lot of busy work involved. It's because of her that I've switched my major to Communication. She may come of cold in her emails, but she's actually really nice.
Whether you're taking her under-level classes or her upper-level classes, Annette is phenomenal at teaching complex material to undergrads. Her assignments and grading criteria are laid out pretty clear. Her exams are exactly what she covers during her lectures, so nothing is there to trick you. I recommend making flashcards while studying.
Although she initially says there is no extra credit opportunities in her classes, she does offer a few if it's relevant to Communication. If she offers them, be sure to take advantage of them because they're 5 points each. Although it may not be a lot, it's beneficial if you're not great at taking comprehensive exams. Be sure to show up to class.
Dr. Hamel is a great professor to have if you need easy COM classes to breeze through. The Culture Code worksheets and the Snapshot project are easy to complete. Just dont procrastinate on them. If theres some extra credit opportunities, take advantage of them because they will help your grade a little bit. Overall, a stellar instructor. 11/10!
Annette is a solid professor and I strongly suggest you sign up for any class she teaches before all the seats fill up. The downside to her classes is that there are several papers to write and she lectures for the entire hour. However, she does offer a few extra opportunities for those who show up to class. If you do the work, you will pass.
Leadership COM was one of the most fun and easy classes I've ever taken online and it's all because of this professor. Her grading criteria and expectations on assignments are well laid-out for average students to understand. I suggest taking this class either as an elective or to complete one of your requirements for your COM major/minor.
Annette's feedback on papers is wonderful and helpful for any casual student who needs encouragement. That said, she is a gem in the School of Communication at Western and they are fortunate to have her. It's because of her that I have decided to switch to Communication Studies as my major. Her insights and real-life examples are helpful for tests.
Annette was awesome at leading class discussions and was open to everyone's thoughts and interpretations of the readings. That said, in order to succeed in this class, you must complete all of the work, which doesn't take up much of your time. Get a start on it early and complete them in advance if you have a dense course load on your plate.
I had Annette for Intercultural COM this semester and thought she did well at explaining the material in a way that is easy to understand. The criteria for the papers and the final project were very straightforward. The study guides for the exams were also helpful for the application questions. If you need a COM elective, take this class with her.
I enjoyed having Annette for Intercultural COM and wished she taught more upper-level COM classes I needed because that is what I'm majoring in. I've gotten by her class without the textbooks and looked up the information online. If you're tech-savvy, you shouldn't need the textbooks. A lot of the exam questions come straight from her lectures.
Annette's online Leadership COM class may have a bit of papers to write and some discussion boards to complete. However, they're very doable as long as you're motivated to take online classes. A lot of the assignments are very straightforward and not as time-consuming as many other upper-level classes. Elective or required, I recommend this class.
Annette was an awesome instructor who loves her job. I recommend her to anybody who needs some easy COM classes to take for their COM major or minor. There's a few extra credit opportunities she offers throughout the semester, so be sure to take advantage of those. They're 5 points each, which is slightly helpful if you missed a discussion day.
I had Annette Hamel for Interpersonal COM and although her class was easy, she dragged her lectures on until it was time to leave. Plus, she gets annoyed if you pull your phone out or pack up when it's almost time to leave. So my advice to you is if you have difficulty concentrating during lectures that long, don't sign up for her classes.
great prof, and i had a good TA! class is stright forward with clicker quizes on tues and worksheets on thursday. must go to get the points, but she drops the lowest 2 of each. 2 tests and the final, super simple if you read the book! clear objectives, and she gives ex credit a couple times throughout the semester. i recommend
This was one of the worst profs. Its the end of the semester and we have no grades in. She is behind and always complains about herself. She always lies and does not put in grades like she says she will. I have learned nothing from this class. It makes me sad and anxious. She never answers emails. GOOD LUCK!
Dr. Hamel has very clear expectations for assignments and tests. She is kind and cares about students. My biggest grievance is that she often picks out people in class based on their "diversity" ex: asking the Latinx student how a topic is in "his culture." She also often gives surface level info and pretends she's an expert on "diversity" topics.
The class is typical college course work and you will read a lot but everything is straight forward. An A or B is very achievable for Comm 3350 and I don't consider myself a strong writer. Turn in everything, stick on schedule and you will pass! - The only complaint is she will take all semester to grade some papers but did fine on them!
This professor makes you buy her $100 textbook for an intro level speech class. There's quizzes every week, exams with lockdown browser, midterms, and finals. In the syllabus, she explicitly states no extra credit. College is expensive and I refuse to spend money on a required class completely unrelated to my major
I took this course online. Dr Hamel was one of the most organized professors I have ever had! She made the class feel as though we were in person. Her expectations were clear, she gave advanced notice of deadlines, she had lots of availability for office hours, and there was lots of interactions with the class despite being online.
Do not take this class. The professor is rude. The class itself should not be difficult but she makes it hard.
Avoid this prof at all costs. I agree with other reviews that this class should be easy and she makes it hard. Her quizzes and exams seem impossible, even when you study. Her in-class examples are over a decade old and she is constantly late to class talking about things that do not relate to the course but to her personal life. Terrible.
The class is not at all hard. The professor teaches the exact same material that's in the book and in the lectures. Her lectures are ungodly boring and she often gets sidetracked from teaching relevant material. If you take a couse with her, be prepared to be bored out of your mind. And participation was mandatory.
I really enjoyed what the course was about, but I probably would have preferred a different professor. The lectures were very boring, especially since she lectured the chapter after taking the quiz, so there's like no point really. She would also get off track sometimes. She also doesn't offer any extra credit.
She's a chill person and the class is pretty easy. It's just annoying because you have to read the chapter and take a quiz on it BEFORE she lectures. So during the lecture, you don't even want to be there because you already know it, but attendance is mandatory. So the lectures end up being really boring because you don't even learn anything new.
She makes you pay over $100 for a book that she wrote. She quizzes you on the chapters BEFORE she lectures on them. Following the quiz she will lecture on what you JUST TOOK A QUIZ ON. If you have trouble concentrating for long periods of time, be wary of taking her class. It's an hour and 15 minutes of her regurgitating the stuff you just read.
What a waste. Uses her own book and juat repeats it to us. Take someone else.
Never have seen a prof so full of herself. Took as an async.class, so I didn't buy the textbook that she wrote for $100 and still got an A+. You have to watch youtube vids on her channel WITH ADS too. She gives out massive discussion board posts and long papers. everything is easy just a ton of work. See if another prof offers this class.
awful. lectures are always off point, but the worst is the grading. finals week and there is only one of our assignments from the whole semester graded!
This professor is not good. Her lectures are always off topic and instead of teaching, so shows videos over topics that are self explanatory. She makes you read the chapter before class and take a quiz every single class. Attendance is mandatory and everyone sits around bored. I do not recommend taking this class.
Very easy going professor. Lectures are often longwinded but the material is extremely easy. Even with minimal effort, you can get an "A". There is a quiz at the end of every class, but the lowest 4 quiz grades get dropped.
Great class
Boring. Boring. Boring. Prepare to spend lots of time scrolling on your phone and wishing you were anywhere else. Makes you buy her own book for $100 and that's all the material you need to pass the class. Its a joke but an easy a.
This class was so boring. She makes you buy her own textbook to read and then goes over everything in class. Her slideshows are so off-topic that they sometimes can even take up the whole hour. I would go to this class only to scroll on my phone until the quiz started. Good luck!
