she is not helpful AT ALL she thinks just because she said it you should understand it and also if the class annoys her once she will never let it go and she will complain about it 2/3 of the class then try and jam the whole lesion into the last few minutes of class. also she talks about how anal she is but she never has anything together
She is great. Students who tag on her do do because she expects the best from all students. She wants effort and effort is rewarded. Few students who font do work or come to class expect to pass and when she does not give them the grade they want, I learned a lit if history
Tough professor, but if she see's you put in effort she'll pass you.
She is very tough on the students. Everyone is afraid of her in class and no one dares to talk back. She expects the best from her students and she makes it clear on the first day of class. No one gets an A on their papers. Attendance is MANDATORY. SHE IS CONFUSING AND GETS IRRITATED WHEN YOU ASK QUESTIONS.
I took Professor Marksellis for Core 100 for the fall 2014 semester. She makes you work every step of the way. If you participate and get to know her she is not a bad professor. Many people complain because they aren't willing to do the work. She pushes everyone to meet their full potential. I respect her as a teacher.
Extremely tough grader, really picky and specific in how she want's everything. Interesting lectures she's extremely real but her grading isn't all that fair. Vague explanations on why you got the grade you did. emails work or post it on blackboard about two nights before when she'd mention it a week prior. too much for a mandatory 100lvl course.
She's tough, but she knows what she's talking about. She gives extra credit towards the end of the term. There are some group assignments but it actually makes it easier for everyone. As long as you follow her directions for assignments and hand everything in you'll be fine. I would take her again.
Here's the thing, a lot of people strongly dislike her because she installs fear onto her students just to gain respect from them. If you truly do your work and really listen in class/take notes, you'll get a great grade. Attendance is crucial to her, if you have a problem with anything you can easily email her but she can be unclear w/ assignments
She's honest about what she expects, no fear nothing. I took her class on a saturday and she made me look forward to class. Cant say that about many other teachers.
I took core 100 with this professor and it as the hardest course I've ever taken. She expects nothing but your full potential and sometimes even that isn't enough. She failed my ENTIRE class on their midterm. Wasn't good enough for her. Don't miss class more than three times she WILL hold it against you, and you probably will fail. Be on time!!!
So many things wrong with core 100. As a professor she is well respected but she is such a tough grader, will never give any A on papers unless you actually know your stuff. And for the RTTP she makes you do a 10 pg bailout essay plus the final which is like 7 pgs long, hardest class I have ever took so far as a freshman.
She spends an hour of the two hour class lecturing every mistake anyone makes on assignments. I had her for a saturday class and one thing i've learned is she wont fully explain what she wants, and then she will get mad when its wrong. write in full sentences and if you write in pencil on a quiz, she won't grade it. I genuinely loved her lectures. But she is too tough on her students. She is INSANELY strict and if it isn't done her way, its the end of the world. Quizzes are 100 questions long and very strict grader when it comes to essays. Save your time and stress by taking an easier core 100 professors. DO NOT TAKE
She literally spends half the class lecturing the students about how incompetent we are, leaving little time for learning. Her tests are IMPOSSIBLE. She emails at 2 a.m. and expects us to see it before class that same day! I am a straight A student and I busted my ass to get an A- in her class. She is a very unhappy person and doesn't like her job.

COR100 was one of the most unstimulating & unfulfilling classes I had to take. I hate history, and i hate CORE. Her exam was near to NOTHING as to what she told us to study, her essay format was VERY unclear, and I had to take it during that ANNOYING & useless "play" thing where we had to role-play as a dead person. I managed to get a B- SOMEHOW.
Shes really nice once you get in the class and she tries her best to help you pass especially with the extra credit near the end of the course

While she is a very nice person and caring from the inside, she is very tough on her students and makes sure to make them feel dumb. Her directions for the papers and essays are very unclear and inconsiderate of the time given to us to complete an assignment. She is unmindful that we have other classes. She should be a history major professor.
I took this professor for about 3 weeks and then dropped the class. She is extremely unclear and then unreasonable if your work is not EXACTLY how she wants it. Core 100 is not supposed to be a hard class, its a 100 level class and a gen ed. She treats it as if its the only class you're taking. There are much better core professors to take.
She is a loon. Steer clear. Emails at 2 am for assignment the next day. Takes points off papers for your form, not your substance. Everything must be precise, but she is vague in what she wants during class. I would rather chop my writing hand off than ever have to take her again. Faculty should look into her and the disparity between other profs.
She is very unclear with her directions. She contradicts herself at least twice a week. She expects you to know every little piece of information and will take points off of your work for anything. She emails you at 2am and post stuff on BB at that night before class expecting you to read it before class. Shes horrible, BEWARE.
Don't even bother taking the class unless you want to get talked down to. She acts like this class was the only class we took. Having to write 3 papers on a senator, 3 exams and a mad long final paper was ridiculous. Don't even get me started on the lectures in the auditorium ran by liberals. CSI needs to put her to sleep!
Marksellis was by far the worst professor I ever had. If you dont do things exactly her way, its wrong and she honestly expects too much from students. All of her assignments are based on left wing opinions and if you dont agree with her views prepare to get a bad mark. She only teaches one side of political views and is extremely irritating.

she's strict but not in a way that's too much. a heavy workload but she prepares you for all of it and gives good study guides. interesting lectures, but won't pass you if you don't do work. it's a doable class, a lot of people just don't listen and get surprised when they fail. gives extra credit at the end which is helpful as well.
I think professor Marksellis is by far one of the best core professors. She doesn't get much credit for it. I fell like she really is engaging with her class and lectures. I never feel bored or sleepy, yes she is test heavy and expects a lot but all professors feel that way. Most of the people who in the class do half assed work and expect to pass.
I took Prof Marksellis a few sem ago and it seems like nothing has changed. I still remember her as a harsh professor with too many expectations. Her exams were NOTHING like what she reviewed. I remember getting a C on a paper that i spent forever on because I didn't "cite properly" despite putting a page of references. thanks again for nothing!
Shes very approachable, even if she doesnt look like it. If you want to pass, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. Communicate with her when you are struggling, and always ask for feedback. Dont be late, dont skip class, and dont half ass your work. Its good to make yourself known, and like said follow directions. She may seem mean but she really isnt.
I really enjoyed her class, she has great lectures and knows what she's talking about. She can seem unapproachable at first but she's there for her students if they come to her. Tough grader but makes what she wants clear, would take again.
Professor Marks-Ellis is most hated because she is the only Professor on campus that gives students actual college work. She is a good professor. Work for your grade and you wont have a problem
The absolute worst. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Want to be up until 3-4 in the morning crying because you're writing a paper that you know won't get a good grade no matter how hard you try? Professor Markellis thinks she teaches at Harvard, she's like the High school teacher who forgets you have homework in other classes. Her grading is absolutely horrible, someone needs to remind her she's teaching a bunch of kids that just came out of high school. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SHE BELONGS TO THE STREETS.
The class itself isnt that hard however she is extremely difficult. She will spend so long talking about her personal life that she won't even get around to teaching you the stuff for the quiz. The 1p lectures are very political and one sided so b prepared to pretend you agree with her views. She also holds you way past the time.. take anyone else!
Very intelligent. Honestly one of the best professors Ive had so far. Shes very approachable so seriously dont be afraid even though shes very serious. Dont do your work last minute, dont be afraid to ask questions, and stay off your phone. Tough grader? Yes. Thats not always a bad thing though. She offers constructive criticism, I swear!
NEVER AGAIN. i had marksellis my first semester and have to say her class caused me to stay up all night writing 1k word long papers that i knew wouldnt even get an A because nothing satisfies her. her class caused me actual mental breakdowns! she is a sweet lady and can be caring but once her teacher mode is on theres no going back. DONT DO IT!
I am currently a student of Professor MarksEllis. I must say I love her lectures & plan to take her again. She is very knowledgeable. She gives you everything you need to pass. It is unfair to any Professor to have students who you need to give baby bottles. And I am being nice! This is College. Expect to do work. Follow directions. Pay attention.

I had multiple mental breakdowns because of this lady. There is nothing you can do to make her happy and I dont think she should be teaching anymore. She needs to be reminded that were FRESHMAN- and forced online because of covid. I absolutely hated this class and would NEVER recommend her as a professor!
Professor MarksEllis seems like a passionate and respected woman. This class was definitely a lot of work. Weekly assignments and she is a harsh grader, but once you get used to what she wants you'll be fine. Definitely hard and irritating but not impossible. Don't take if you don't have to.
Don't take this class if your life depended on it. She is the worst grader I have ever seen. Put your blood sweat and tears in your work just to receive a passing grade. She is everything wrong with the college experience: -Absolutely mean -Horrifically politically biased -Grades everything as low as possible by making up things wrong with it. -A miserable experience. This professor is extremely mean spirited and never happy. She often will get mad if you follow the directions properly as she will morph her directions into something else. She's a very tough grader either way and will always give you two grades lower than you should have gotten on an assignment. Steer clear of this professor no matter what.

Prof loves to insult students and lectures are more personal tangents than anything. It's a joke and everyone agrees with that. Do the work, get a C, she provides no useful feedback as to why a C. Just submit everything and you'll get a C or B if she's feeling generous. Feels frustrating and like your grades are out of your control.
Do take her if you want to learn American history, if you want an easy A, she is not the right professor. The amount of homework/quizzes/exams was crazy, but at the same time she is ready to help, she replies to emails immediately and I loved her lectures. Also, the grading criteria were tough and you need a 95 to get an A. Overall good professor!
I am only taking this professor one time because she is EXTREMELY disrespectful and audacious in the way she addresses students. She gives the shortest time for assignments to be turned in, Lectures, goes off topic multiple times. My anxiety and depression has become drastically worse over this semester due to her attitude. DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE!

A lot of student tends to give her crap for no reason. Professor Marksellis is a fine professor, and I have seen none of the personality traits that the student says about her. For any incoming freshmen, if you see this feedback, don't fear, just do your work and you'll be fine, Marksellis is a very sweet lady.
This Professor is very difficult to please in terms of work & will give you a zero on assignments for the most minute reasons. Expect to complete multiple assignments in a short span of time because of tight deadlines. On the bright side, she seems to have good intentions & is very easy to get ahold of outside of class/answers emails right away.
Read the reviews they are not being dramatic. you're in for a rude awakening if you're taking this professors class 0/10 won't recommend.
Her grading system was a bit over the top and was harsh, but I think she meant well and she was really funny. I just think people are overly sensitive and need to grow up. She was not that bad, you gotta show up for class though, and pay attention. She does not mess around about that.

Very tough. She has a very specific way of having you turn in assignments and if you make a mistake in the formatting she will not hesitate to give you a zero. Not a bad person, has good morals and is not nasty if you aren't but is quick with attitude if you make a mistake. Passive aggressive AF. Assignments and tests are hard but are doable.
I saw the reviews and hesitated, but I truly like her & her class! She is tough with rules but they are simple & not hard to follow. Her class was interesting and she is hilarious! She is very intelligent. Be nice to her and she will be nice to you, follow her instructions and do the assignments on time & you will be good. I would take her again!

Very Straightforward and rude and expects way too much from most students who just came out of high school. She sucked the joy out of history for me. She is good as a person but not for this class she could be a great drill instructor.

extremely rude and tough for no reason. boring lectures with only talking, sitting at desk (no slides, images, etc). will give a 0 for having a lowercase letter in your homework, while having a typo every announcement.(let alone the fact that there were 36 in the first 2 weeks, 80% of which were complaining about students.) do not take.

Any little mistake can affect your grade so much, she's very rude and always has a nasty tone when answering a simple question one may have about an assignment. She doesn't double check what she assigns and if she makes a mistake on the assignment she'll blame it on you for doing the work “too fast” before she can even announce the mistake.

If you see you have this teacher drop the class. A teacher shouldn't act the way she does. She is rude and nasty to students on day one. Her workload starting on the first day is outrageous and she is so strict with her assignments. She sent out an audio message making rude remarks to the class. Find any teacher besides her, if you have her RUN.
terrible, don't take her. rude and has attitude at all times towards students. blames students for her mistakes on assignments. grades using an answer key and complains when it can't read it. just grade it yourself. hw are given a 0 if something she did messes it up and she blames the students. complains that its too much work to grade
Honestly going into this class I was very nervous because of all the reviews, but honestly she is great professor! Follow the directions, do your homework, study, and you will be okay. Ask her any questions and she is always ready to help her students. She is very passionate about history and knows what she is talking about. Would take her again!

My personal experience with her is that she was not bad. If you go to class, do the work and follow directions you will be fine. She is very strict with work and she can be a little bit rude. She's very strict about following directions with homework so try your best with that. You should be fine overall just do what she says

The rudest woman I've ever encountered! Makes simple work too complicated, it's history not science or math. Didn't use a BOOK for a history class, why?! Fails to grade all work and can't spell but is grading MY spelling?! Posts assignments before all lectures are posted and made final the day after term ENDED! AVOID HER, the only prof. I've hated!
Don't trust any rating giving her four stars or higher—it's likely her or someone close boosting her score. She criticizes students for “grammar” and “not following directions” while making spelling mistakes herself and directions are extremely strict, pushes her beliefs on students, and makes anyone outside her race or culture feel unwelcome.

RUN! She hates young people. I made the mistake of thinking she was nice but then soon realized. Honestly I'm surprised that I didn't drop the class (many ppl left). The work is easy but she is a bad grader. The first assignment that my class received back had us all flabbergasted. She posts a lot of online but she's not tech savvy. Stay strong.
If you want to be happy and not deal with nasty attitude don't take her class. She does EVERYTHING online even though she's not tech savvy. She uses ai to grade, so you'll wrongfully get a bad grade. If you mess with the format of assignment papers (bc it looks bad) points are taken off. She likes to complain about how nobody listens.
She's honestly not that bad, I will say that she is a super tough grader and you must follow her directions exactly or else she will give u an 0. 2 quizzes were online and 1 in person test, final was also online. She doesn't teach in my opinion she just rambles about random stuff.
